Graphics card insight.

Hello folks, let me start by telling you that my computer is about 3 and a half years old, and I bought it from Best Buy. I know some cringe at that though. For me it works though. I don't do heavy gaming so I don't need a massive machine. I play a bit of Diablo III Sim City (the latest one) and Sims 3. I'm looking to get Sims 4 when it comes out.

My desktop came with a chipset that would not allow me to run Diablo III, but a friend gave me his Graphics card he no longer needed. The card works fine. The games I play have to be put ear the lowest settings though. Well...I've been saying for a few months I'd like to upgrade my graphics card, but I don't want to spend a crap load of money on something I'm not going to need. I was shown one that was about 60 bucks and it would be good for what I want, but was told that in a year or so when the Sims 4 came out I may have the same issues now, that my graphics may be laggy and jumpy so they'd have to be put on a lower setting.

Well................a different card was found. It's a bit better in the respect of some number (my fiance told me but I don't remember) where mine is about 200 something and the card we are looking at is like 3000 something. I don't get it. I'm not good with the insides of a computer AT ALL!

So my questions here are this.

1. With the new card I"d need to up my power supply. Mine is currently a 240 and the card calls for a minimum of 300. A friend has a 500 and is willing to give it to me. He says the only issues is a power spike when you hit the max wattage, but my computer should never reach that. (I don't know) Should this be okay, or should I look into getting a new one?

2. The Graphcis card is a PCI express 3.0. While my computer only has two PCI express 2.0 ports. Will this be a problem?

3 IF the 500W power supply isn't enough how will I know? Will this do damage to my computer or will it just not come on, and by default having to order the 600w power supply?

4. Have any of you guys ever ordered from NewEgg and should I trust this site? I know it seems popular with the online people when I use Google, but actually hearing from someone I can ask a question to would make me feel a LOT better.

Thanks in advance.

<p>yes the card should work as the ports are backwards compatible.</p><p> </p><p>

The power supply should be more than enough for your system and the graphics card ( as that is the main user of power)</p><p> </p><p>

never ordered from newegg, suggest reading reviews online and if they are mostly good, you shouldn't have a problem.</p>

I can't recall hearing negative feedback on Newegg from a customer service standpoint, and have heard people go out of their way to praise it. I've not used them myself, as I have a Micro Center close by that I'm loyal to, but I think you're in good hands if you order from Newegg.

<p>Thank you guys. I ordered my card. What sold me is the 150 bucks of in game goodies I get for three games, though I only play one of them. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I have a Micro center near me too, but I've heard mixed reviews about them.</p>

The Micro Center by where I live acutally used to be horrendous but then after a few local management changes it made a big improvement in customer service.</p>
