Bigpapa42 Posted May 14, 2015 Share Posted May 14, 2015 A bit more toying around with Dragon, since I didn’t have much time to book any AWF Shows. I started another watcher game last night and its run to January 2016 so far. Left it running so hopefully another year in by later today. It looks like the company starts to make some progress toward National around that point, under the AI booking. Which makes sense. I know on past watcher games, Dragon would sometimes hit National but it seems to take a long time to do so. The roster is mostly intact. The AI doesn’t tend to make sweeping changes, and neither PWI nor AWF (who has reached National by this point) seem to poach much talent. So Dragon seems relatively safe in that regard. Cameron Cody appears to be a safe bet to regularly turn into a fantastic wrestler. Definitely one to lock down to a long term contract ASAP. Once again, the company lost its TV deal at the end of 2014. Or didn’t renew it. Kinda curious what causes it and whether it’s an AI choice or not. The starting TV deal is with a Small network, so I don’t imagine they are too big for Dragon…? At mid-cult, its not like they can jump to a significantly larger network. It could be something to do with the minimum requirements, particularly with regard to the company's prestige. It was something I noticed was a problem while setting up the 1980 mod so it wouldn't surprise me. They always pick it up again on a different network though. The success of DRAGON, like many AI promotions, depends on who they decide to push and whether they can keep their stars. As you said, Cody is a huge talent for them and if he is the focus they will gain popularity very quickly. I always remember running two three-year watchers one after the other. In the first the AWF got stuck at cult size because they made Omri Stone (and then Revolver Binx) the AWF World champion. In the second, the belt went to Timothy Hawk, Drake Richards and Jean-Claude Giroux and they jumped to National in the first year! I look forward to hearing how you get on BP! I figured that once Dragon makes some popularity headway and gets into the C to B range in a few areas, it would pop up, but by memory, it was still down in the E range by the end of 2015. </p><p> </p><p> I don't want to move away from my AWF game yet, as it just got started. So I don't know that I'll do too much with Dragon just yet. And I don't want to repeat what I did with PWI. A while back, they caught my eye, I did a bunch of looking and planning, ran some test games, put together some ideas.... and then didn't enjoy booking the promotion very much so didn't go very far. So I ran the watcher through to January of 2018. PWI is International and a monster, still at #1. Dragon is now #2 and they are National. The AWF is sitting at #3 but dropped back down to Cult after being National for a good long while. </p><p> </p><p> The most interesting development, I think, is PWI finally getting aggressive when they hit National. They poached quite a bit of talent from Dragon, including Cody, Furosa (sp), Kris Phoenix, and some others. They didn't have them on Written deals, so was bound to happen. Dragon didn't reload to a huge degree. They have a couple ex-AWF guys now in the midcard (Omri Stone and Bryce Christiansen). The Golden champion is Jarid Hart. The Prestige of Dragon is up around C now. Such a slow grind to get that up there. </p><p> </p><p> The AWF hasn't altered their roster a huge degree. Still the likes of Hawk, Giroux, Richards, and Dolla at the top. The AI booking doesn't seem to do well in building popularity, so its always going to limit SE promotions at bit. </p><p> </p><p> I don't believe Dragon have switched PPV providers, which might be a limiter on their growth. Once they hit solidly mid-Cult, let alone National, they should be on bigger carriers. The AI doesn't seem to do that, so its definitely something that I will look to address when I'm booking them. </p><p> </p><p> Taylor Boston was #1 or #2 on the Top 500.
