Background Information

Good morning/afternoon/prevening/evening to everyone that has taken time out of their lives to take a look at this diary. This diary is angeldelayette presenting his take on World Championship Wrestling beginning the year of 1991 in the month of January. This will begin around 2 weeks after the 1990 Starrcade event. I have done many diaries in the past, both Cornellverse and Real World. As a matter of fact, I am still running a dual diary in the Real World with jhd1. That diary, located here, is still up and running. My second diary from WWE 2014 that I am working on is located here. I have always enjoyed working with World Championship Wrestling and the 1991 mod is an excellent one to work with.

In 1991, WCW opens up a whole new vibrant amount of wrestlers to create characters with. I hope to bring a new and fresh take on the promotion. However, I will say beginning here that there will be some times that are not completely realistic. Those times will generally be wrestlers coming in on a full time basis that are not and probably would not ever do so in real life. But the good thing about the game is that I can make those decisions myself.

Inspiration

jhd1 - A great diary writer and one that I go to for support again and again. He is one of my best friends on these GDS boards. He is also responsible for a lot of the graphics work that gets done both in the diary and in different games. I thank him for that. He is also my multiplayer partner in my real world diary.

Eisen-verse - Another amazing diary writer. He is another one of my friends and always offers good advice when I need it. His epic SWF diary has been an inspiration on everyone that reads it. I have definitely been inspired by his depictions of wrestlers in all of his diaries. One cannot help but to be inspired.

Cut Artists - I cannot forget these amazing artists that bring the real world to life. All credit for the cuts and pictures goes to their respective artists. A special thank you goes to these artists. If there is one that you see that you would like me to change the name to include/give credit to you as the artist, please feel free to let me know here or in pm.

Lexa90, BHK1978, critical-23, TheLeviticalLawKid3, 20LEgend, Bigpapa42, Emark, Tigerkinney, Rayelek, Midnightnick, RKOwnage, pennyone, 3rdStringPG and more - These names have been some of the more long-lasting names that have commented and predicted within my diaries in the past. They have been and always continue to be an inspiration to me in their comments and predictions. They always seem to stick by me through thick and thin, though some more-so than others now. Which, again, I do not blame them for their choices. I just want to thank them here and now for their predictions and comments in the past.

World Championship Wrestling

-This week we are coming to you taped from the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia for WCW Saturday Night! Our main event is going to be a huge one as we see the former NWA World Tag Team Champions The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) take on the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting and the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger! This should be an amazing match between these four men to end the show.

-But that's not the only major match here on WCW Saturday Night. In our semi main event the WCW United States Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers against two members of the Four Horsemen Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Last week on WCW Saturday Night, Scott Steiner scored an upset victory against Ric Flair in singles competition. Can The Steiner Brothers continue the upset trend when they take on two members of the Horsemen on WCW Saturday Night?

-Not only will those matches take place but Michael Wallstreet of the York Foundation will be in action. He will be stepping into the ring with Big Josh. With Alexandra York using her computer to both predict the outcomes and scout out a strategy, it will be interesting to see what she has to say prior to the match. Can Big Josh pull away with a big victory?

-Owen Hart has been scoring several victories here lately over wrestlers such as 'Gentleman' Jim Clontz, Scott Armstrong, Pat Rose and more. This evening he goes one on one with 'Dirty' Dutch Mantel. This should be a very good match with a second generation wrestler taking on a veteran. Also, last week, Larry Zbyszko had some words to say about the victories by Owen Hart. Will Zbyszko confront Owen Hart this evening?

-In the opening contest, we will be seeing the WCW debut of a second generation wrestler. The son of the son of a plumber 'The Natural' Dustin Rhodes will step into the ring with a veteran wrestler in George South. Will Dustin Rhodes be able to score a victory in his debut match or will George South ruin the debut of 'The Natural?'

-Plus Tommy Rich faces off with Dr. X, we will be hearing from the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting, The Four Horsemen, The Fabulous Freebirds and more. Make sure you tune in to WCW Saturday Night!

I'm just about to 1991 on my Network Marathon, so I'm excited to see you have this one up and running :)

George South vs. Dustin Rhodes

Comments: Easy one for the Son of the Son of the Plumber.

Dutch Mantel vs. Owen Hart

Comments: Never a bad idea to have Owen floating around.

Dr. X vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: Do you want to borrow my squash picture for this card? lol

Michael Wallstreet vs. Big Josh

Comments: There's been a lot of faces winning, so a heel win here - though Josh turning heel could be interesting, given who's behind the character.

Non-Title Match

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson vs. The Steiner Brothers

Comments: Some type of Horsemen chicanery can go on here.

The Fabulous Freebirds vs. Sting and Lex Luger

Fun Fan Signs:

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT!

Saturday Week 1 January 1991 (Taped Thursday)

Location: Norfolk Scope (Mid Atlantic)

Attendance: 11,000

Overall Rating: B

TV Rating: .84

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/Sting0.jpg

[This edition of WCW Saturday Night begins with the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Sting coming out to a thunderous ovation from this crowd of little Stingers. He releases a howl when he gets in the ring, hearing it echoed back by some of his fans. Sting paces the ring for a moment and then says that we are beginning a new year tonight. That new year is beginning the same way the old year ended. That is with Sting as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion! He says that you can expect more of the same as the year continues because he has no plans on dropping this title any time soon. But, he says, that doesn't mean he's not going to be a fighting champion. He says that he has faced all comers during this title run and he will continue to go one on one with anyone who wants to step in the ring with him. That means he'll continue to take on the Black Scorpions, the Horsemen, the Living Legends and even the Skyscrapers of the WCW universe. This also means that he will face anyone from up north if they decide to come down south and try their hand where the big boys play. Sting's speech gets interrupted by the sound of hoofs clip clopping on a cobblestone drive.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RicFlair0.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/ArnAnderson1.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/BarryWindham.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/SidVicious.jpg

[That sound can only mean one thing and that's the arrival of the Four Horsemen. Ric Flair is leading the crowd. Arn Anderson follows behind him. Barry Windham is somewhere in the middle and Sid Vicious is watching their backs. As they reach ringside, the four men begin to fan out slightly. They each move to one side of the ring in perfect unison. Flair makes a nod and they each climb onto the apron, staring down the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Sting looks around for a moment, looking only slightly worried about being surrounded by the Four Horsemen. A microphone is given to Ric Flair and he says that he heard there's a party going on tonight in Norfolk, Virginia. Whoooo! Then he turns his full attention to Sting and says that Sting is in a very bad predicament right now. Flair says that with one wave of his hand he could have the Four Horsemen come crashing in on Sting and injure his knee like they did before. He asks if Sting remembers the reconstructive surgery he had to have. But, he says, he can make this easy on Sting. All he has to do is leave the belt in the ring, forfeit the belt to Ric Flair and then walk away. Sting says that he does remember what the Four Horsemen can do. That's why he always has some back-up now. He calls out for the Dudes to come out to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RickSteiner91.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/ScottSteiner91.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/BrianPillman92.jpg

[Out from the back come the United States Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers and Flyin' Brian! All three of those men explode into the ring to watch the back of Sting and make this a fair fight. They are all waiting to see exactly what the Horsemen are going to do in this moment. Flair looks around to the three men on the apron and makes a sign. All four men drop off the apron and gather together at the ramp. Flair says that Sting has gotten a little smarter over the years. But tonight the Nature Boy will walk that aisle and style and profile like only he can do. Tonight, he says, the Horsemen will be riding out of Norfolk successful. Flair drops the microphone and backs the Horsemen up the aisle as Sting, The Steiners and Flyin' Brian watch from the ring. Sting shakes the hands of the three other men and they exit the ring as soon as the Horsemen disappear. Sting gives some high fives to the audience as he walks back up the ramp and then disappears as well.]

COMING TONIGHT!

Match #1

George South vs. Dustin Rhodes

[The very first match of the evening features the WCW debut of Dustin Rhodes. The son of the son of a plumber takes on the veteran George South. South gets Rhodes back in a corner and throws some punches to the gut before whipping Rhodes across the ring. The young Rhodes explodes out of the corner with a clothesline to bring South to the mat. A second clothesline brings South down. Rhodes does a little hand motion like his father and a Bionic Elbow brings South right down to the mat. Rhodes plays to the crowd for a moment before picking up South and moving him into a corner. Rhodes climbs up and begins throwing punches as the crowd counts along. When he gets to the tenth one, he uses a Bionic Elbow instead. He drops down and hooks South with a headlock -- Running Bulldog out of the corner! Rhodes makes a cover: One, Two, Three! A victory in Dustin Rhodes's debut!]

Winner: Dustin Rhodes (Via Pinfall @ 6:19)

Match Rating: D-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/DDP91.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/MichaelHayes1.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/JimmyGarvin1.jpg

[We go to a pre-taped interview. This one featuring Diamond Dallas Page and The Fabulous Freebirds. DDP talks about the fact that his two clients will be taking on the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting and the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger tonight on WCW Saturday Night. He says that tonight the Diamond Exchange moves toward being the Golden Exchange. These two men from Badstreet USA are the best tag team in WCW and that means that when these two singles wrestlers get into the match with them they are going to be overwhelmed by the Freebirds. But things are going to get even better because next week a new member of the Diamond Exchange is going to be revealed. And WCW is going to feel...the...BANG!]

Match #2

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/DutchMantell3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WWF_BR/VS.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/OwenHart91.jpg

Dutch Mantel vs. Owen Hart

[Our second match of the evening features another veteran in 'Dirty' Dutch Mantel taking on second generation wrestler Owen Hart. The action in this match is back and forth with the veteran Mantel getting an advantage by sending Hart outside the ring. Mantel whips Hart into the guardrail and then begins choking the Dungeon graduate on the top of the guardrail. The referee exits the ring, warning and threatening Mantel with a disqualification. Mantel lets go and tosses Hart back in the ring. He joins Hart in the ring and climbs to the second turnbuckle. He leaps with an elbow but Hart rolls out of the way! Hart quickly grabs Mantel and brings him over with a Northern Light's Suplex for a two count. The young Hart brother waits for Mantel to get to his feet -- Standing Enzuigiri! Hart grabs the legs of Mantel and turns him over in what Jim Ross is calling the Dungeon Lock (a modified Scorpion Deathlock). Mantel struggles but he has no choice but to submit.]

Winner: Owen Hart (Via Submission @ 9:57)

Match Rating: D+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/LarryZbyszko1.jpg

[Following the victory by Owen Hart, he climbs the turnbuckles and raises his arms in the air as the crowd cheers along with his victory. Hart drops from the turnbuckle and turns right into a clothesline by Larry Zbyszko. The Living Legend appeared in the ring seemingly from out of nowhere! Zbyszko picks up Hart and body slams him back to the mat. He makes the 'Piledriver' motion and then picks up the second-generation wrestler tucking him between his legs -- Piledriver! Owen Hart is down and out following this heinous attack by Zbyszko! Why did Zbyszko attack Owen Hart? Hopefully, we will find out soon. The Living Legend drops an elbow on the fallen Hart and then rolls out of the ring, walking to the back.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/AlexandraYork.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/MichaelWallstreet.jpg

[A pre-taped interview begins that features Alexandra York sitting at her laptop computer. She types in a few keys and the camera zooms in on the laptop, showing that she seems to be scouting Dustin Rhodes. Michael Wallstreet walks up behind her and she turns off the laptop, closing it up. The two of them talk briefly about Wallstreet's match with Big Josh tonight. York says that if they do exactly what the computer says then he should be able to defeat Big Josh in six minutes and thirty seconds or less. She also says that tonight they are going to see the debut of a new member of the York Foundation. She promises that this man will watch Wallstreet's back tonight. With the York Foundation growing stronger, she says that Wallstreet will become a champion by the end of the year.]

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/MoondogRex2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WWF_BR/VS.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TommyRich1.jpg

Dr. X vs. Tommy Rich

[Our third match of the evening features a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion in Tommy Rich against the mysterious Dr. X. The match has very solid in-ring action but the crowd definitely doesn't seem to be into the match itself. Inside the ring, Dr. X gains some brief control when he brings Tommy Rich down with a headbutt. He whips Rich into a corner and follows in with a corner clothesline. Rich staggers out of the corner and the crowd pops when he ducks a clothesline and brings Dr. X down with a scoop powerslam. The Wildfire looks like he is in full control here! He sends Dr. X to the ropes and drops him with a dropkick and then heads to the second turnbuckle. He leaps and connects with a diving forearm shot. Rich plays to the crowd for a moment and then he picks up Dr. X -- Sitout Suplex Slam! Rich makes the cover, hooking the leg: One, Two, Three!]

Winner: Tommy Rich (Via Pinfall @ 6:08)

Match Rating: C-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/HarleyRace1.jpg

[Following this victory by Tommy Rich, Harley Race comes down to the ring, continuing their feud as he attacks Rich. He hooks his arms around the man known as Wildfire and brings him over with a belly-to-belly suplex. Race drops a knee across the skull of Rich and then climbs the turnbuckles -- diving headbutt! The crowd boos as Race stands over the man that he will face at the Clash of the Champions: Dixie Dynamite. Harley Race picks up Tommy Rich and tucks him between his legs -- Race Piledriver sends Tommy Rich right down into the mat. Rich's body shakes slightly, convulsing in the ring. He might have broken Rich's neck with that piledriver. Race raises his arms up in the air as he seems to be declaring victory right now despite the fact that we haven't reached the Clash yet.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TonySchiavone1.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/Sting0.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/LexLuger91.jpg

[in the interview area, we move to where Tony Schiavone introduces the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting and the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger. The two best friends come out, getting the crowd pumped. The focus of this interview is on the tag team main event that we have tonight as they team together to face the Fabulous Freebirds. Sting says that he can agree that the Freebirds have more experience teaming together than he does with Lex Luger. But Luger is his best friend so they know each other very well in the ring. Luger gets on the microphone and tells the Freebirds that he is the best wrestler in WCW and it doesn't matter if he's teaming with Sting or with someone pulled from the crowd. Tonight, one of the Freebirds are going to feel the Human Torture Rack! Sting gives a look to Luger for a moment but doesn't say anything about Luger's words about teaming together. Instead, Sting releases a howl and we move to a video.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TeddyLong0.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/ButchReed1.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RonSimmons1.jpg

[We move from the interview area to another pre-taped video. This one features Teddy Long and the NWA World Tag Team Champions Doom. Teddy Long says that there are no teams in World Championship Wrestling that are better than this team right here. Not The Steiner Brothers, not The Lightning Express and especially not those two suckers called The Renegade Warriors or whatever that team is called. He says that at Clash of the Champions, Doom is going to continue to run right through the tag team division by beating The Renegade Warriors. He says that it doesn't matter if it's Mark or Chris that's in the ring with these two tough men. They are not the physical specimens that Doom are. Just like every other tag team, Butch Reed and Ron Simmons will be the Doom of The Renegade Warriors. If another team wants to step up after that? Then they will go down like Downtown Julie Brown. That is just a fact.]

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/MichaelWallstreet.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/AlexandraYork.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WWF_BR/VS.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/BigJosh.jpg

Michael Wallstreet vs. Big Josh

[Our next contest features the computerized man of the future Michael Wallstreet against the ever-popular Lumberjack Big Josh. The match itself is a back and forth contest between these two men. Wallstreet holds an advantage midway through the match, sending Big Josh outside the ring and then sending him face-first into the ring-post. The crowd boos Wallstreet as he speaks with Alexandra York outside the ring. He picks up Big Josh and tosses him back inside. He slides back in and gets the referee's attention so that Alexandra York can choke Big Josh on the ropes. York stops before the referee turns back around. Michael Wallstreet calls for the Wall Street Crash and picks up Big Josh but somehow Big Josh gets a second wind and begins throwing punches to Wallstreet. He lifts Wallstreet in a vertical suplex and drops him down hard. Big Josh calls for the Northern Exposure as a sign goes up in the air: 'Big Josh? More like Pig Josh!' He bounces off the ropes but Wallstreet moves out of the way and Big Josh crashes hard. Wallstreet rolls up Big Josh, placing his feet on the ropes: One, Two, Three!]

Winner: Michael Wallstreet (Via Pinfall @ 6:21)

Match Rating: D+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TerrenceTaylor.jpg

[Michael Wallstreet scores the pinfall victory this evening in less than six minutes and a half. Big Josh struggles to reach his feet and Michael Wallstreet brings him down with a kick to the chest. The crowd boos as Alexandra York enters the ring. She instructs Wallstreet as he lifts Big Josh and brings him over in the Wall Street Crash! The crowd cheers as Terry Taylor comes out to the ring, seemingly to save Big Josh. Taylor stares right at Wallstreet, the man he's been feuding with for awhile. He helps Big Josh up and then bounces off the ropes -- Five Arm connects on Big Josh! Boos echo through the crowd as Terry Taylor shakes hands with Michael Wallstreet and Alexandra York! We have the newest member of the York Foundation!]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RicFlair0.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/ArnAnderson1.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/BarryWindham.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/SidVicious.jpg

[From this big development with the York Foundation, we move to a pre-taped interview featuring all four members of The Four Horsemen. The focus of this interview begins with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson hyping their tag team match this evening with The Steiner Brothers. Anderson says that they decided to make this a non-title match because The Steiner Brothers knew that they couldn't defeat The Horsemen. Flair says that he can understand not wanting to lose the gold but that his focus is on Sting and the NWA World Heavyweight title. He warns Sting that when he walks that aisle against Ric Flair at the Clash of the Champions he's going to bleed, sweat and pay the price. Flair says that it's hard to be humble when you're the Nature Boy. Whooooo! Sid Vicious and Barry Windham mostly stand in the background looking menacing during the interview.]

Non-Title Match

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson vs. The Steiner Brothers

[Our semi main event is an amazing tag team match that features some great action and a crowd that is definitely interested in all four of these top wrestlers. With all four wrestlers in the ring to begin the match, The Steiner Brothers gain an early advantage. Rick takes Arn Anderson down with a Steinerline. Anderson rolls out of the ring. Scott brings Flair down with a double under hook power bomb. Scott makes the cover and gains a two count. Flair rolls out of the ring and Rick makes a circle in the ring barking before getting down on all fours. Scott stands over his brother in their classic pose as they stare down the two members of the Horsemen. Flair re-enters the ring and manages to back Scott Steiner into a corner, lighting up his chest with knife-edge chops. After three chops, Scott shoves Flair backward and Flair trips to the mat. Flair quickly pulls himself up and charges Scott -- Scott catches Flair around the waist -- overhead belly-to-belly suplex! Flair crawls back into his corner and Scott tags out to his brother. Flair tags out to The Enforcer and he meets Rick Steiner in the middle of the ring. After some back and forth wrestling, Anderson rakes the eyes of Rick Steiner and gains control for the Horsemen. Anderson drags Rick Steiner back into his corner and the Horsemen begin using quick tags in and out, keeping Rick Steiner down. Flair picks up Rick Steiner and drops him with a shinbreaker. He drags Rick's leg across the bottom rope and then leaps, crashing down on the leg and causing Rick to cry out in pain. Flair tags out to Arn Anderson and The Enforcer brings Rick Steiner down with a swinging neckbreaker. Anderson points to a sign in the crowd reading: 'Norfolk is Horsemen Country!' He picks up Rick Steiner and whips him toward the turnbuckle. Anderson follows in but Rick moves out of the way and Anderson crashes into the turnbuckle. Rick brings Anderson down with a Steinerline and both men fall to the mat. Both men begin crawling toward their corners to make tags. In comes Ric Flair but Rick makes the tag to Scott!]

[The crowd pops as Scott Steiner comes in and he takes down both Ric Flair and Arn Anderson with Steinerlines! He picks up Flair and brings him down with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex! Arn Anderson looks to catch Scott as he starts to get back up from the suplex but he gets blindsided by Rick Steiner with a Steinerline! Scott slips behind Ric Flair, catching him around the waist. Rick strikes Flair with a Steinerline, bringing him over with a bridging German Suplex. The referee drops down and counts a two count before Flair gets his shoulder up. Both men get to their feet and Scott brings Flair down with a fallaway slam! Scott makes the signal for the Frankensteiner. He pinned Ric Flair with this move last week! Scott sends Flair to the ropes -- Frankensteiner! He hits it! Scott makes the cover: One, Two, Broken Up By Arn Anderson! Scott points toward his brother and Rick begins climbing the turnbuckles. Scott lifts Ric Flair onto his shoulders and it looks like they are going for the Steiner Bulldog! Scott walks over but Arn Anderson catches Scott with a chop-block and he goes down along with Flair. Rick leaps off the top turnbuckle, bringing Anderson down with a Top Rope Steinerline! Flair gets to his feet and tosses Rick Steiner out of the ring. Flair rolls up Scott, placing his feet on the ropes: One, Two, Three! The Horsemen grab the win!]

Winners: Ric Flair and Arn Anderson (Via Pinfall @ 20:05)

Match Rating: B+

The Fabulous Freebirds vs. Sting and Lex Luger

[it is main event time and what a main event we have for you this evening. We have former NWA World Tag Team Champions taking on two men who have the top two singles titles here in WCW. The match begins with a lot of hold for hold and counterhold in the middle of the ring as all four wrestlers get into the fight. Around five minutes into the contest, all four men come into the ring and the team of Sting and Lex Luger gain an advantage. They send Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes into opposite corners and then climb up, throwing punches. The crowd counts along with the punches, each of them reaching ten. They drop down and look to whip The Freebirds into each other but Hayes ducks a clothesline by Garvin, spearing Sting and the clothesline strikes Lex Luger. Sting rolls out of the ring and the Freebirds go right after Lex Luger. The two men keep Luger in their corner, using quick tags. At one point, they hold Luger in the corner and both men throw punches, bringing Luger all the way down to the mat. Michael Hayes walks over to taunt Sting and Sting comes in the ring, getting the attention of the referee. Behind the referee's back, Hayes tosses Luger over the top rope to the floor. Diamond Dallas Page puts a couple of boots to the ribs of the Total Package before tossing him back in the ring. Outside the ring, DDP argues with a fan who has a sign up that reads: 'Two Freebirds, One Stone!' Around the ten minute mark, Michael Hayes locks Luger in an abdominal stretch. Luger shakes his head, refusing to give up. Hayes uses the ropes behind the referee's back, adding additional leverage to the hold and more pain to Luger. The crowd claps and stomps their feet, trying to get Luger back into the match. Around the eleven minute mark, Luger manages to twist around and send Hayes over in a hip toss. Luger falls to his knees and begins to crawl toward his corner. Sting is looking for a tag, really wanting into this match. Hayes manages to tag in Jimmy Garvin and Luger tags in Sting!]

[The NWA World Heavyweight Champion climbs the turnbuckles and catches Jimmy Garvin with a flying clothesline! Michael Hayes enters the ring and Sting ducks a punch, bringing Hayes down with a dropkick! Sting ducks a clothesline attempt from Jimmy Garvin and catches him with an inverted atomic drop. Sting drags Garvin to a corner and sets him up on the top turnbuckle. He climbs up, throwing several punches to Garvin and then hooking him in a Superplex, bringing Garvin to the mat! The crowd gets on their feet as Sting makes a cover: One, Two, Michael Hayes breaks up the pinfall attempt! In comes Lex Luger! The Total Package catches Hayes with a flying clothesline/forearm shot! Hayes is dropped to the mat and Luger knocks Diamond Dallas Page off the apron! Luger exits to the apron as Sting backs Jimmy Garvin in their corner! Sting charges into the corner -- Stinger Splash! Lex Luger blindly tags himself in and quickly enters the ring. Sting looks to Luger confused for a moment but Luger picks up Jimmy Garvin -- Human Torture Rack! Sting catches Michael Hayes with a Stinger Splash and locks in the Scorpion Deathlock. Within moments, the bell sounds for victory for Sting and Lex Luger!]

Winners: Sting and Lex Luger (Via Submission @ 17:11)

Match Rating: B

[The fans here in the Norfolk Scope pop as Sting and Lex Luger pick up the victory. But, once again, we see some action following a match. This time, all four members of The Four Horsemen come down to the ring. They surround the ring and move in sync with one another as they climb on the apron and then go after both Sting and Lex Luger inside the ring. It's two on one on both sides as Sid Vicious and Barry Windham go after Sting and Ric Flair and Arn Anderson go after Lex Luger. Sting does his best to fight back against Windham in particular but Sid Vicious catches Sting with a big boot to the side of the head. Anderson brings Luger down in the center of the ring with a spinebuster. Sid Vicious tucks Sting between his legs -- Power Bomb! Vicious lands Sting down beside Lex Luger in the ring. The two best friends are side by side on the mat. Ric Flair takes the NWA World Heavyweight title belt and he raises it up in the air. Could this happen following the Clash of the Champions? All four men stand together in the ring, raising four fingers in the air. Behind them, a fan raises a sign reading: 'Diamonds = IV Horsemen!' We'll see you tomorrow for WCW Main Event!]

I'm just about to 1991 on my Network Marathon, so I'm excited to see you have this one up and running :)

Dr. X vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: Do you want to borrow my squash picture for this card? lol

Glad to see the excitement on this diary. As I've always said, I was always a WCW fan. So I am definitely excited to get this diary up and running. And I do have to lol about the whole squash thing. I know that there will always be a few squashes in 1991. After all, we haven't gotten to the Nitro era yet. But I still enjoy doing the match write-ups. And I am very thankful for any predictions and especially for the comments. I love reading people's thoughts as I move forward with the diary, both the good and the bad.

I didn't have cable during this time, so I don't even recognize about half the names from the first 4 matches. I could very well be terribly wrong. Good luck with this project Angel.

I can understand not knowing several of the old-school names on here. Dr. X was one that even I did not remember from those days. Though I was ten years old in 1991. So this was prime wrestling watching time for me in particular. Thank you for the good luck and the predictions and comments, my friend.

Was reading USPW: The Slow Ride to the Top, and I have to say you're one of the best match writers on this board -- you can make two paragraphs of description entertaining, and you can paraphrase promos -- two rare skills indeed.

Looking forward to this.

This is an amazing comment and I am both amazed and grateful that people are still reading some of my older work and that people enjoy my match write-ups. One thing I wish I could do in real life at some point is to become a writer for a professional wrestling organization. To me, that would be my dream job combining two things that I have real passion for into one amazing career. I am glad to hear that my match write-ups are really enjoyed as I know that sometimes I wonder if anyone is actually reading the matches and not skimming over them. So hearing this in particular is great for me. Thank you so much.

A damn fine first show, AD! If the only thing I can find to slightly nitpick is that the Horsemen's theme didn't have horses in it yet, then obviously you're doing amazing :p

Thank you Beejus for the comment! I am really glad that you enjoyed this first show in what I hope will be many. I can definitely understand that nitpick about the Horsemen's theme but I do have to say that I enjoy the horse's at the beginning so, yeah, it's kind of a switch. But I am glad that the show is amazing for someone aside from me. :p More shall be forthcoming, of course.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter

World Championship Wrestling

-This week we are coming to you taped for WCW Saturday Night! Our main event is going to be a huge one that was set up last week as the Horsemen take on the Dudes With Attitudes. This match is a non title contest between Sid Vicious of the Horsemen and Sting of the Dudes With Attitudes. At Halloween Havoc back in October, Sting defeated Sid Vicious in controversial fashion. Barry Windham masqueraded as Sting but the ruse was caught when the real Sting appeared and he defeated Vicious. This time there will be no masquerade. It will be one on one.

-That will not be the only top match this evening on WCW Saturday Night. This week, the NWA World Television title will be defended for the first time by the Z-Man as he takes on a mystery opponent signed by the NWA Championship Committee. The only hint that the NWA has given on this opponent is that he is a former champion here in WCW. That definitely does not seem fair to the Z-Man but he will definitely be looking to prove himself here in WCW.

-The Natural Dustin Rhodes made his debut here in WCW last week when he defeated George South. This time, the young Rhodes will be taking on another veteran in El Cubano. We saw last week that Alexandra York was scouting Rhodes. Will she be making any approaches to him this week?

-The Living Legend Larry Zbyszko has been in a fight since Starrcade with second generation wrestler Owen Hart. This week, he goes one on one with Owen's brother Keith Hart. Can Keith get the biggest win in his WCW career by defeating the Living Legend? Or will Zbyszko prove that he is better than the Hart Family?

-The beginning of this show will feature the announcement of the brand new top contender to the NWA United States Heavyweight title. This will feature the man who will take on the current champion, Lex Luger, at the Clash of the Champions: Dixie Dynamite. Of course, Lex Luger will be on-hand to find out who his opponent is. Like with the NWA World Television Title Match, the NWA Championship Committee has guaranteed a tough opponent for Lex Luger. We will find out who that is at the beginning of the show.

-Plus The York Foundation takes on Big Josh and Junkyard Dog, The Lightning Express take on two members of the Four Horsemen in Arn Anderson and Barry Windham, we will be hearing from the Danger Zone with special guest Big Van Vader, Diamond Dallas Page and The Fabulous Freebirds introduce the newest member of the Diamond Exchange, the Four Horsemen will be on hand and more. Make sure you tune in to WCW Saturday Night!

The York Foundation (Michael Wallstreet and Terrence Taylor) vs. Big Josh and Junkyard Dog

Comments: Based on the first show, York Foundation seems to be doing more at the moment.

The Horsemen (Arn Anderson and Barry Windham) vs. The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong and Tim Horner)

Comments: Not much question here.

Larry Zbyszko vs. Keith Hart

Comments: Zbyszko is the one with storyline.

El Cubano vs. Dustin Rhodes

Comments: No idea who Cubano is but my guess is that he´s just jobber (pretty safe bet after just seeing him losing to Ranger Ross in B-show) :p

NWA World Television Title Match

Z-Man defends vs. ???

Comments: It´s his first defense so I will go with Z-Man retaining even if that looks a bit unlikely option.

Non-Title Match

Sid Vicious vs. Sting

Comments: Sting will take this one though I doubt it will be entirely clean match so perhaps by DQ?

Bonus Point: Who Will Be The Top Contender To The NWA United States Heavyweight Title: Michael Wallstreet

Bonus Point: Who Will Face Z-Man Tonight: Tully Blanchard

I´m not really familiar on wrestling scene at this time but I´m pretty sure Tully was free agent at this point and would certainly be interesting signing thanks to his shared past with Anderson and other Horsemen.
