WWF: Stormbreaker (A Rising Storms Diary)

Recommended Posts

Goooood morning/afternoon/evening...

There's no cool backstory to this diary, there's nothing you need to know before coming in... I'm taking up the reigns of the WWF as owner/booker Vince McMahon Jr himself - unhappy, perhaps, with the direction the company seems to be taking under head booker Pat Patterson...

This is my first attempt at diary writing for a while and I can't guarantee there won't be significant lapses in time between shows... having said that I've got a months' worth of bookings already so there should be enough momentum to keep me going for a bit!

Hope you enjoy the read and that the diversions from reality are enough to keep you coming back for a little more.

Big thanks to justxyank for his stellar mod and to all the other mod makers, cutters and the people who keep these dynasties alive!

For formatting, I'll be following the TFC/Anderz model because I'm bone idle!

Thanks everyone!

WWF Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Match

The Rockers vs Haku & The Barbarian:

As announced on Wrestling Challenge, this match saw two of the WWF’s hottest teams compete for the right to take on The Hart Foundation at the Royal Rumble. Although more experienced as a duo than their opponents, The Rockers were giving up a fair size advantage to Haku & The Barbarian and the two behemoths used this to the full, isolating the plucky youngsters wherever possible. Outside the ring, Bobby Heenan was a menace too, tripping Jannetty at a crucial moment and turning the tide against him. The pair battled back though and Shawn Michaels’ beautiful sunset flip on The Barbarian (assisted by a Jannetty dropkick) almost won the day but for Heenan’s distraction of the referee allowing Haku to smash the prone Michaels with a stomp to the throat. As The Barbarian made the successful cover to steal the win, Haku took care of Jannetty with a clothesline.

Winners: Haku & The Barbarian in 9:13

Grade: C+

In a Pre-Recorded Interview:

Mr. Perfect tells us that if all has gone to plan, we’d have just seen Haku & The Barbarian crowned the #1 Contenders for the Tag Team Championship and that they’d earned their spot. To be the #1 Contender you need to work hard and earn it the hard way… The Big Boss Man can cry about his Mama all he wants but in his book, The Boss Man hasn’t earned the right to face him… to do that you’ve got to have a near perfect record… and even if you get that far… nearly perfect is never good enough when you’re facing true perfection…

Grade: B-

‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith vs ‘Canadian Strongman’ Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart):

Battle of the bulging biceps as two powerhouses collide in a ponderous match. Almost inevitably things start with a test of strength that the Bulldog easily dominates until Bravo scores a low blow and turns the tide. Claiming the strength victory, Bravo breaks the test and begins to pound down on the Bulldog with clubbing forearms. The momentum turns in the match when Bravo tries to force a submission out of Davey Boy… only to find the Manchester native powering out with relative ease… catching Bravo on the turn, The Bulldog scoops him and delivers a running powerslam to win with authority!

Winner: ‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith in 7:36

Grade: C

Backstage with Gene Okerlund:

Randy Savage is prowling and along with Sensational Queen Sherri has taken over Okerlund’s microphone plucking it from his hand. Savage tells the wrestling world that it’s about time the King retook his throne (yeah) and that whether it’s The Ultimate Warrior or it’s Sgt. Slaughter who’s holding the belt after the Royal Rumble… they have a date with destiny and an obligation to give him the title shot that he deserves.

Grade: B+

The Legion of Doom vs Bob Bradley & Danny Davis:

An utter domination by the baddest team in the WWF… Hawk and Animal explode on poor Bradley & Davis neither of whom look ready to face what’s coming their way… a Doomsday Device clothesline that sends Davis airborne is enough to put a full stop on a blisteringly short encounter.

Winners: The Legion of Doom in 2:14

Grade: C-

Backstage with Sean Mooney

Ted Dibiase is looking particularly smug next to an apprehensive Virgil. He tells Sean Mooney that as much as he loves his Million Dollar Belt, he made his millions by accumulating… and he sees adding WWF silverware as a great investment… the only thing better than winning one WWF title would be winning two… and that’s why shrewd businessmen like him and Bobby Heenan were able to reach a mutually beneficial deal… while he’s been reprimanded in the past for trying to purchase the WWF title… nobody said he can’t buy an opportunity – and that’s why at the Royal Rumble it will be him and his servant Virgil who will be facing the Hart Foundation for the WWF Tag Team Titles… and when the dust settles he’ll own both of those belts because he already owns Virgil!

Grade: B

An Onscreen Graphic:

… advertises an important interview with the WWF Champion The Ultimate Warrior, next week on Superstars of Wrestling!

Grade: B

‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan vs Sgt. Slaughter (w/ General Adnan):

A real heated encounter this one saw Iraqi sympathiser Sgt. Slaughter take on the American patriot Jim Duggan. And the hatred for the #1 Contender for the WWF title was almost palpable! Every move by Duggan was roundly cheered, while the boos for Slaughter threatened to bring down the house! As the heat in the Gulf continues to rise, so did the booking of this match, with Duggan enjoying lengthy periods of control. The wily veteran Slaughter though didn’t let his emotions get the better of him and as Duggan prepared for the three point stance, he dropped to the canvas and rolled out of the ring, waving an arm in disdain at Duggan as if he were beneath him. As he turned to walk back to the dressing room, Duggan gave chase… a shot to the ribs with General Adnan’s flagpole winded Duggan though and Slaughter followed this up with some cheap shot punches to the face. Rolling Duggan back into the ring, Slaughter followed and continued to stomp on the ribs that Adnan had weakened… As Duggan looked to crawl for refuge to the corner, Slaughter applied a Cobra Clutch and left Duggan no choice but to quit.

Winner: Sgt. Slaughter in 11:27

Grade: B-

With Duggan still at his mercy, Slaughter refuses to let go of the hold… General Adnan joins him in the ring and hits Duggan square in the face with the end of his flagpole, screwing into the top of his head. Duggan is in serious trouble and the referee is unable to break up the hold…

The music of Hulk Hogan hits! The Hulkster charges into the ring and delivers a running clothesline to Adnan, that sends him scurrying to the outside… Slaughter is up and has bailed out too! As Slaughter helps the dazed Adnan to the back, his hair a dishevelled mess he points back at the Hulkster who leans over the ropes and trash talks back.

The show ends with Hogan helping Duggan to his feet before he begins to pose, Duggan waving Old Glory behind him.

In Behind the Scenes News

Following his resumption of full booking duties, Vince McMahon opted to keep things as stable as possible in the short-term, although he is said to have ripped down the Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble booking plans. The ongoing feuds and storylines are set to continue but McMahon has decided to make a few subtle changes to some of the plans. The sudden early departure of Dusty and Dustin Rhodes back to WCW necessitated a re-think of how he wanted to handle the simmering Ted Dibiase and Virgil storyline and this has formed the building block of his new direction.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Douglas.jpg

Although promising no sweeping roster changes, McMahon has still been active in the market, in addition to the recent roster additions of Davey Boy Smith, Percy Pringle, Jacques ‘The Mountie’ Rougeau, Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags, McMahon opted to bring in Shane Douglas – signing the youngster to a 1 year Written deal.

Rumour has it that Douglas has made Vince question his decision almost immediately, with the youngster boasting to everyone backstage that honest pro Boris Zhukov was only the first person who’d be jobbing out to him. McMahon dealt Douglas a stern warning that this type of attitude would be unacceptable and that he was far from indispensable to his plans.

McMahon has also made a handful of offers to other workers, we understand, although at press time none have signed on the dotted line.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Marsh.jpg

One person who won’t be signing a permanent deal anytime soon is ‘Dangerous’ Danny Davis. We understand that Davis, real name Dan Marsh, had approached Vince to ask if he could be retired from in-ring duty and return to refereeing. Seeing Marsh as ‘damaged goods’ in that area following the infamous referee heel turn of 1987, McMahon felt he had little choice but to release him from his PPA contract. Davis is now accepting bookings and will be available from the third week in January.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Bearer.jpg

Of his new signings, all have now been debuted in some fashion or other apart from William ‘Percy Pringle’ Moody. Strong rumour has it that Moody is being repackaged and is set to be paired with ‘The Undertaker’ – on a hot streak since debuting in November, The Undertaker is someone the company clearly has high hopes pinned on. However, Moody has apparently been placed on vacation for the time being so it would appear that this is either a long-term plan or something that the Federation are reconsidering.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Hart.jpg

Speaking of managers, Jimmy Hart was summoned backstage to be informed that he will no longer be taking charge of The Nasty Boys on screen. McMahon had tested the trio in a dark promo and felt that the chemistry with Hart didn’t work. Feeling their gimmick is strong enough to go it alone, McMahon let the Nasties cut their own promo on All-American Wrestling. Hart is said to be unphased by the change and is happy to concentrate his efforts on the stable of Earthquake, Dino Bravo & new signing ‘The Mountie’. McMahon has not ruled out further additions to Hart’s fold in the future.

Whenever LOD seemed to get the upper hand, the devious Mr Fuji always seemed to find a way to interrupt their flow, his cane hooking the leg of Hawk at one point. At press time, the number is said to have swollen to 60 active wrestlers (although officials are adamant that two of the recent arrivals are here on very short-term deals only). As to the identity of these short-termers, backstage sources are tight lipped. Supposedly only McMahon knows his plans for the Royal Rumble match and both are expected to appear in the match in some capacity. With Wrestlemania booking plans being binned last week, it remains to be seen whether one or both of these wrestlers will still be around in March. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Ace.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Sheik.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Two men who are expected to be with the Federation in March, however, are John ‘Johnny Ace’ Laurinitus and The Iron Sheik. Ace has already debuted on TV alongside tag team partner Shane Douglas as one half of The Dynamic Dudes. With Douglas in the doghouse, it was Ace who picked up the victory for his team and his presence backstage has been noted as a positive one. A keen eye for business, Ace took charge of laying out his match and while this would normally be a bone of contention for most of the locker room as he is yet to pay his dues, having his big brother Joe (better known as Animal of Legion of Doom) fighting his corner, it’s not ruffled too many feathers as far as we understand. Dividing his time between New York and Tokyo, Ace is on a PPA agreement with both the WWF and NJPW.</p><p> </p><p> The story with the Sheik, however, has been markedly different. Anticipation is high that he will cause some trouble somewhere… but as of yet he’s not caused any headaches for McMahon… Although not unpopular with any individuals backstage, many are wary of the Sheik and the baggage he often brings with him. No word as yet as to how he fits into the booking plans but with his proud Iranian heritage, there is plenty of scope to perhaps fit him into the Sgt. Slaughter storyline – perhaps an unlikely ally to Hulk Hogan? Whether the American public would embrace an Iranian in this storyline remains to be seen and it’s perhaps too close to home at present… with pressure being exerted on the WWF they may look to use The Sheik as a way to move the storyline away from the Gulf War.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Nelson.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Vince’s final signing this week, Rikki Nelson, has been in an Enhancement Talent capacity only – hardly a surprise as he’s been jobbed out to Jimmy Snuka & Jake Roberts in pretty quick fashion so far. McMahon has made it clear that he doesn’t see him as ready to progress up the roster at this time but that’s he willing to watch how he develops over the next few months. Nelson for his part is said to be grateful for the opportunity to learn how a major wrestling company works from the inside and has stated his ambition is to open his own grappling group one day</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> --</p><p> </p><p> Thanks everyone for the views and the kind words...</p><p> </p><p> Always happy to hear feedback!</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="39632" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>This is going to be one heck of a slobberknocker<p> </p><p> Best of luck, Ritchardo. </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I certainly hope so mate... we'll see how it pans out over the next few weeks!</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="39632" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>You know I'll be on board. Eventually Tito does make it back to his corner and the running clothesline on Haku gets a big cheer… just a pity the referee had been distracted by Bobby Heenan on the outside so missed the tag! Within minutes of arriving in the locker room he was said to be antagonising Sgt. Slaughter – telling anyone who would listen that he’d been brought in to save the storyline and without him there was no chance of Slaughter being anywhere near the top of the card after the Royal Rumble. Most seemed to take this with a pinch of salt (and some no doubt thought he had a point…) Ray ‘Big Bossman’ Traylor though stepped up to Slaughter’s side and told The Sheik he should be grateful to be given another shot.</p><p> </p><p> Supposedly this did not go down too well with the Iron Sheik and after promising to break Traylor, ‘to make him humble’, and a number of cries of ‘bullsheeeet’ any physical confrontation was avoided. There remains some bad blood between the two, however no action was deemed necessary by the Road Agents.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Hercules.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Warlord.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Genius.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Someone who has made his way into Vince McMahon’s bad books, however, albeit not officially is Hercules Hernandez. Currently working as the ‘Power’ half of Power and Glory, Hercules has also been travelling to and from Japan for a cushy run in the NJPW midcard. Despite insisting to McMahon that there would be no scheduling conflicts, Hercules has sheepishly informed McMahon that he will not be available for the Royal Rumble next year, as well as missing a few other TV tapings. McMahon is particularly upset as Hercules was last week confirmed as one of the participants. It is understood that The Warlord will be drafted in as his replacement, although Lanny Poffo has also been told to make himself available that night should injuries or other issues prove to be a factor.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Mystery.png</span></p><p> </p><p> Speaking of the Royal Rumble, the decision to include three mystery entrants has perplexed many WWF employees. Officials are said to know the identity of two of the mystery participants (with at least one described as a purely one shot deal). With McMahon insisting on three slots it has opened speculation that he is continuing to look to bolster the roster. Our latest information suggests that McMahon has three separate ideas in mind for who should fill the last spot and has sent out contract offers to all of the talents involved… Supposedly he will make up his mind on the night as to who will get the last berth, either way officials are tight lipped at any speculation, although Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart & The British Bulldog were also spoken to about the potential signings and while Hogan was said to be irritated at the news, the other three certainly all appeared to be upbeat. More on this as we get it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Koko.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> One man who definitely won’t be appearing on the Royal Rumble card is Koko B. Ware. The Birdman’s contract was due to expire at the end of January, however, WWF top brass have resigned him to a six month PPA deal, allowing Koko to continue working in Memphis, where he’s currently the reigning Heavyweight Champion. Rumours abound that this was a commercial decision taken by the Federation with an eye on keeping relations sweet with the USWA. Vince McMahon is said to value the relationship between himself and Jerry Jarrett, and sees USWA as something of a feeder league – having their champion appear on a limited basis on WWF TV is a good exposure for the group. Koko isn’t even first reserve for the Royal Rumble (see above) which does seem like an odd move, however, he has a high profile match on this week’s Superstars so the action on the night may explain Koko’s absence.</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> --</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="39632" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Royal Rumble Prediction Card<p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Royal Rumble Match</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> Animal, Dino Bravo, British Bulldog, Crush, Jim Duggan, Earthquake, Haku, Hawk, Hulk Hogan, The Iron Sheik, Marty Jannetty, Kato, Rick Martel, Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect, Jake Roberts, Paul Roma, Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Smash, Jimmy Snuka, Tanaka, Tugboat, The Undertaker, Greg Valentine, Texas Tornado, The Warlord, Mystery Entrant 1, Mystery Entrant 2, Mystery Entrant 3</p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WWF Championship</span></strong>: The Ultimate Warrior © vs Sgt. Hacksaw & Koko team well despite their clashing styles and Duggan nearly had it one, missing out on the three point-stance clothesline thanks only to Slaughter pulling Sheik from the ring at the last second. Jimmy Hart at ringside proves himself to be a nuisance and it could’ve been a different match had Snuka been unhindered in his attempt at a Superfly splash, instead the delay allowed Earthquake to catch Snuka mid-leap before turning the move into a running powerslam. Two large briefcases are placed on top and while we can’t see the contents, what appears to be a few $100 bills are sticking out from the edges, all three men look at each other in confusion before Okerlund postpones the interview for now.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grade: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Hulk Hogan vs Haku (w/ Bobby Heenan)</strong></span></p><p> A clearly very, very angry Hulk Hogan makes light work of Haku who never really got going in this match, only Bobby Heenan stopped this from being a quick squash with his constant distractions. Warrior guns down to the ring, diving straight under the bottom rope and clotheslining Slaughter and Adnan out of the ring, The Iron Sheik is up and Warrior hits him with a right hand, he throws him into the ropes and gets him with a shoulder charge. The Iron Sheik is lifted above his head and gorilla pressed! Hogan’s back-up… Leg Drop! Duggan felt that Piper was non too charitable about his match on Superstars this week and took offence to some of the comments made. The Bulldog accepted he was at fault but remains on very thin ice with the Company.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Neidhart.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Roberts.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> On the other side of the coin, Jim Neidhart & Jake Roberts were deep in conversation at the All-American taping, Neidhart is said to be trying to improve his microphone work and was asking The Snake for some pointers. The Big Bossman enters to a decent reception from the crowd. The big men lock up to begin and this event is underway! The Barbarian gets the upper hand almost immediately with a big kick to the solarplexes, followed up by a back body drop. It’s rare to see someone of The Big Bossman’s size be physically dominated but that’s exactly what happens here with The Barbarian slowing the pace with his hard hitting physical attacks. The tide begins to turn when a clearly fatigued Bossman, his shirt half unbuttoned and hanging out of his pants, fighting for breath is being held up and measured for a Kick of Fear… but it’s the Bossman who connects with an impressive standing enzeguari that knocks Barbarian for six! Both teams showed a willingness to break the rules with Butch sinking his teeth into Knobbs’ shoulder to break-up a nerve pinch on Luke and Sags responding by kicking him squarely below the belt. Entering to a strong fan reaction The Hart Foundation are the clear favourites heading into the match and their experience teaming together shines through. With Virgil forced to start the match against Bret Hart, The Excellence of Execution takes his time in picking DiBiase’s man servant apart, move by move. Gorilla Monsoon praises the attention to detail applied by Bret and that he never seems to waste a single move. Jim Neidhart, on the other hand is closer to a force of nature and his brutal attacks on Virgil nearly score a pinfall, but for DiBiase’s decisive breakup following a spinebuster.</p><p> </p><p> When DiBiase himself enters the ring, the match changes on its head, despite The Anvil clearly being stronger he seems to struggle when it comes to dealing with DiBiase… and yet wasn’t keen on Bret tagging back in. It takes Neidhart being whipped to the ropes (and what seemed like a set-up for the Million Dollar Dream) for Bret to be able to sneak a tag back in as the onrushing Anvil was tagged by The Hitman. What follows is a brief but excellent technical match – DiBiase suddenly appears to be in trouble against the fresher Hitman and after a series of counters that has the crowd on the edge of their seats, when DiBiase, almost out on his feet after, is whipped into the ropes, it’s Virgil who gets the blind tag!</p><p> </p><p> As Virgil tags in he’s met by an onrushing Anvil who hoists Virgil in the air, cannoning off the opposite rope, Bret Hart hits a picture perfect Hart Attack clothesline to pick up the victory as a shellshocked Ted DiBiase looks on in fury! </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winners and STILL WWF Tag Team Champions: The Hart Foundation in 13:35</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B-</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Vince McMahon tells us that Tugboat is waiting backstage but before we have a chance to go there, Ted DiBiase has launched a vicious attack on Virgil! DiBiase kicks and punches into the fallen manservant with a viciousness that put to shame any beating that The Hart Foundation had placed on them. DiBiase is not letting up and he can be heard screaming that he’s nothing but a failure… as various referees and road agents hit the ring they’re unable to either reason with or stop DiBiase who keeps rushing at anyone jumping on to the apron before returning to Virgil for another kick in the head!</p><p> </p><p> The commentary team are beside themselves in disgust, Roddy Piper in particular is getting worked up at DiBiase’s bullying… as The Million Dollar Man sees off Earl Hebner...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Piper.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Piper jumps to his feet and vaults into the ring!</p><p> </p><p> As DiBiase turns, Piper is standing wagging his finger, a punch is thrown but blocked by the Scotsman! The former Tony Atlas is no slouch in the ring though and he’d been riled up by some of The Mountie’s comments over the past month – so much so that it’s Simba who takes the action to The Mountie in the initial stages – a fireman’s carry converted into a back suplex gets a 2 count and seems to wake The Mountie from his complacency. A vicious streak quickly becomes evident as the Canadian works over Saba Simba’s mid-section. Slaughter won’t be able to do anything but name me the number one contender for the WWF title… I don’t care if you’re Hulk Hogan or you’re Randy Savage or whoever else is stupid enough to step into that ring, tonight it belongs to Mr Perfect and from where I’m looking in – that’s absolutely perfect!</p><p> </p><p> Heenan: And just to seal the deal, this family works together – you already all know that and Haku is my enforcer, it’s Haku’s job to stop problems before they become problems, he’s the toughest man in wrestling today and he’s here to make sure this Family rise back to the top!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grade: B-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="39632" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>[/center]<strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Video Package:</span></span></strong><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Warrior.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Slaughter.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> A short video plays documenting the return of Sgt. Most casual observers expected The Warrior to dominate his older foe but Slaughter showed exactly why he had been considered the top challenger for this event by looking to sap the speed and power from The Warrior at every turn. Being used to dominating opponents large and small, The Ultimate Warrior found himself against a man who’s not afraid to flat out break, rather than bend the rules, using every short-cut in the book to try and work an advantage.</p><p> </p><p> When The Warrior was able to use his power, he was dominant, the problem was that General Adnan was a continual nuisance on the outside, using his presence to break the flow of the Warrior’s assaults and generally get in the referee’s way.</p><p> </p><p> Still, in spite of everything, The Warrior was still the heavy favourite and for all Slaughter kept trying to wear him down, The Ultimate One refused to flag, powering out of an attempt at the camel clutch and turning it into an impressive back bodydrop! Slaughter was in real trouble and even removing the top turnbuckle and ramming Warrior’s head into did little but annoy him! Summoning the power of the little Warriors, Slaughter was caught with a flying shoulder tackle and was lifted up for a gorilla press slam... but it was not to be! From out of the audience came a familiar figure…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Savage.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Even as Vince McMahon screamed on commentary that The Macho King had no right to be here, he made his presence felt! Leaping over the crowd barrier and on to the apron, General Adnan distracted the referee long enough for Savage to crack The Ultimate Warrior in the head with his sceptre. The blow, along with the weight of the falling Slaughter knocked the wind out of the Ultimate Warrior and the referee turned to deliver the count…</p><p> </p><p> 1…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 2…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 3!!!!</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner and NEW WWF World Heavyweight Champion: Sgt. The 1991 Royal Rumble starts off at a high octane pace thanks to the current WWF Intercontinental Champion matching the speed of his opponent, one half of The Rockers, Marty Jannetty. Perfect seems to have a clear gameplan, eliminate the competition before it can become a problem. Our commentary team point out that last year’s #1, Ted DiBiase set a longevity record and on his way eliminated Marty Jannetty at #3 inside the two minutes. History doesn’t repeat itself here though with Jannetty having learned from his mistakes, the Rocker stays on his feet and is still grappling with Mr. Perfect when then buzzer sounds.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#3. Jannetty and Perfect seem to reach a silent truce as the big man steps in. Gorilla Monsoon tells us that The Warlord holds the record for the shortest stay in the ring with 2 seconds… Much like Jannetty though, he’s learned and sidesteps an attempt by Marty to end his night quickly. The concept of the Royal Rumble is really heavily promoted here as both men who had been fighting together just moments ago combine their efforts on taking The Warlord down. The big man is on his back as the buzzer signals the arrival of number four…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#4. Jannetty and his partner Shawn Michaels overcame Dino Bravo and Earthquake a few weeks ago and the Canadian Strongman is out for revenge, he hurls Jannetty over the top rope… but fails to follow through and the Rocker is able to land on the apron and get back into the ring unscathed. Perfect is in trouble too, he’s in a tight chokehold in the corner but The Warlord is unable to work it to his advantage.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#5. Meanwhile, Dino Bravo is still trying to power Jannetty over the top rope, hooking his arm on the bottom rope, Marty lets Bravo’s strength be his undoing, as the two tumble over the top rope, only for Marty to save himself and slide back underneath. Bravo is not as fortunate and quickly sprawls on the outside floor.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Dino Bravo eliminated in 3:11 by Marty Jannetty</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Jannetty begins to team with The Texas Tornado to try and oust Mr. Perfect but to no avail, Perfect hanging on to the bottom rope in the corner like grim death.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#6. Monsoon mentions that Orton broke his arm in 1984 and can’t believe that it’s still not healed… Piper clearly has a soft spot for Bobby, as he calls him and wills him on! He starts out by clubbing The Tornado with the cast and it drops Kerry to his knees, a blow now to Jannetty and suddenly Perfect seems to have the upper hand again thanks to his new association with Bob Orton Jr. The pair attack Jannetty and Tornado without mercy as the clock winds down.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#7. Hoooooooot! Here comes Tugboat and the stripey savage finds himself the target of Bob Orton Jr, who clocks the big man with the plaster cast! McMahon is apopleptic at him being allowed to use a blatant foreign object while Roddy Piper is taking it in his stride, saying all is fair in love and war baby! Meanwhile The Texas Tornado and Marty Jannetty are both working over Mr Perfect close to the ropes. The two whip Perfect into the opposite ropes and on his way back he ducks their double elbows, baseball sliding to the outside. Quick as a flash he’s back up on the apron, a double noggin knocker sends them reeling and as Perfect pulls the top rope down, the momentum is enough to send The Texas Tornado down and on to the floor, even as Perfect slips back under the bottom rope!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>The Texas Tornado eliminated in 5:36 by Mr Perfect</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Not wanting to waste any time, Perfect and Jannetty recommence their war as Orton and Tugboat roll around the centre of the ring</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#8. Having been playing possum, Perfect is up like a shot and pushed Marty off and to the inside to end his night.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Marty Jannetty eliminated in 13.36 by Mr. Perfect</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Wasting no time, Perfect lays into the back of Tugboat with several stiff shots. That’s all the invite that Roma needs and he gingerly enters the ring, peppering the big man with well-placed punches to the face while Perfect continues to work over his back.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#9. Haku</strong></span></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Haku.jpg</span></p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Still Alive:</span></strong><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Mr Perfect (14:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Tugboat (4:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Paul Roma (2:00)</strong></p><p> </p><p> Things begin to look up for Tugboat just as the buzzer goes off. On the outside Bobby Heenan is gleeful that one of his other charges, Haku is on the way… but Tugboat has other ideas, grabbing Perfect and Roma in twin headlocks he performs a double DDT on the two that leaves them gasping for breath. As Haku enters the ring, Tugboat charges and pushes the Samoan back over the top before he even got going!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Haku eliminated in 0:18 by Tugboat</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> The announcers debate whether this was actually quicker than the Warlord’s exit of two years ago but the action continues in the ring, Roma and Perfect having regrouped and attacking the Marine Mauler again with a sustained beating.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#10. Rick 'The Model' Martel</strong></span></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Martel.jpg</span></p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Still Alive:</span></strong><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Mr Perfect (16:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Tugboat (6:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Paul Roma (4:00)</strong></p><p> </p><p> Some more star power arrives in the form of Rick ‘The Model’ Martel. Spraying his ‘Arrogance’ on the way to the ring, he looks disgustedly at the combatants currently trying to survive. Like Roma, he picks his moment well and begins a prolonged assault on Tugboat. Clearly the three smaller men have decided to work together to remove this giant obstacle once and for all. Time ticks down though and Tugboat makes it to the next buzzer unscathed.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#11. Marty Jannetty didn’t disgrace himself tonight and neither does Shawn Michaels! He’s taking a very different tactic, obviously deciding that having a giant like Tugboat on side could be useful – he clears away Martel and Roma catching both with a picture perfect dropkick that threatens to send Roma over the top. The upper hand doesn’t last long though and the superior numbers prove too much. Martel in particular is enjoying his moment. With Tugboat down and almost out, Perfect and Roma have Shawn held in twin armlocks, Martel reaches for his can of arrogance and looks ready to spray it in Michaels’ eyes…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#12. Naturally he makes a beeline for The Model and is soon ramming his head into the turnbuckle! Martel looks to jump over the top rope and escape but Jake hauls him back inside! Meanwhile Tugboat is looking shaky but back on his feet, using the ropes to clamber back up… It proves to be a mistake though because Mr. Perfect sensing the weakness delivers a strong clothesline that puts the big man out of the running.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Tugboat eliminated in 10:42 by Mr Perfect</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Perfect stops for a breather as Roma and Shawn Michaels pair up and Martel is screaming for help against the Snake. It’s every man for himself though and after a couple of sneaky kicks at the outstretched arm of The Model, Perfect retires to the corner pulling in air.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#13. As the two square off it leaves Shawn Michaels free to go after the latest entrant, the masked Kato! After blocking an exchange of hip tosses and a leapfrog spot, the two finally collide into one another, leaving them staggering towards the ropes, Kato looks to throw Shawn over the top but much like his partner earlier in the evening, he’s able to land on the apron and swing himself back in, as Kato looks to join the assault on Jake Roberts, the last thing he sees is a Savate Kick to the chin from Michaels that sends him crashing over the top, thanks in no small part to Jake’s hooking of the top rope.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Kato eliminated in 1:32 by Shawn Michaels</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Roma and Perfect have put their differences aside again to work on Shawn Michaels together. Meanwhile Rick Martel is still comically trying to eliminate himself at every available opportunity only for Jake to capture him and drag him back from danger.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#14. Martel is still trying to escape and Roberts doesn’t take too kindly to Shawn Michaels attempting to help him, pushing the youngster out of the way when he comes over to help. The distraction allows Martel another shot at jumping over the top but he’s cut off once more by The Snake. As Valentine, Michaels and Perfect exchange chops, the buzzer sounds again as we reach the half-way point!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#15. The youngster is in serious peril as both men look to put him over the top rope. He somehow survives and the match enters something of a quiet period with all five men seemingly happy just to survive at present.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#17. Stopping only to smirk at Bobby Heenan, Orndorff removes his robe, flexes his muscles and enters the ring… in keeping with tradition he goes straight after Mr. Perfect who we are informed is closing in on Ted DiBiase’s record. This seems a little more personal though as Orndorff keeps trash talking Bobby Heenan on the outside in between sending Perfect flying with precision blows. Smash has almost done enough to see off Shawn Michaels, but a glancing blow from The Hammer is enough to take his eyes off the prize, Michaels uses the distraction to his advantage, upending his larger foe and sending him tumbling to the outside.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Smash eliminated in 3:47 by Shawn Michaels</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> The commentary team tell us that Shawn has eliminated three of his top opponents in the tag ranks tonight and think this could be a break out performance by the youngster!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#18. It’s Snuka’s involvement that directly leads to the next elimination, even if he didn’t deliver it himself! A jumping headbutt from the Superfly on Mr Perfect leaves him weak on his feet, and the belly to belly suplex he delivers on Mr Perfect is enough to send him sprawling to the floor.</p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Mr Perfect eliminated in 33.14 by Paul Orndorff</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Before Orndorff can engage himself with Snuka (or anyone else for that matter), Mr. Perfect leaps back on to the apron and pulls Orndorff outside. The two engage in a chaotic brawl but Piper is insistent that Mr. Wonderful should not be out – the same thing happened to him last year and he’s checked the rules, Orndorff is still in there! Eventually security pull Perfect away and Orndorff is indeed allowed to return to the ring.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#19. Savage isn’t happy though and looks to finish the job, stopping only when Tito attacks from behind. Things have degenerated into a pier-six brawl, No-one is able to gain an upper hand, or even trust each other it seems and as the buzzer sounds again, each is standing in their own corner warily eyeing each other with Michaels in the middle of the ring watching all four men intently.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#20. Tanaka</strong></span></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Tanaka.jpg</span></p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Still Alive:</span></strong><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Shawn Michaels (18:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Greg Valentine (12:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Tito Santana (10:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Jimmy Snuka (4:00)</strong></p><p><strong> Randy Savage (2:00)</strong></p><p> </p><p> It’s into this arena steps Tanaka who gives a good accounting of himself, all things considered. He chops and thrusts at each man as they look to take him down, save for Savage who seems happy for his opponents to wear themselves out. The opportunist Macho King very nearly has Jimmy Snuka over the top rope thanks to a brilliantly timed axe handle from the top, but it’s to no avail, the Superfly hanging on to the top and the clock ticking down once more. Michaels and Tanaka pair off as the buzzer sounds.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#21. All five men in the ring stop to watch as he makes his way to the ring, stepping up and over the top rope, Tito Santana is the first to make a move – The Undertaker catching him by the throat, lifting him up and out over the top rope!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Tito Santana eliminated in 12:56 by The Undertaker</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Next it’s Jimmy Snuka who gets in The Undertaker’s way – his jumping headbutt resulting only in a pair of dark eyes boring holes into his skull. The Undertaker has him now by the throat too… same result!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Jimmy Snuka eliminated in 7:13 by The Undertaker</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Poor Tanaka is just a fraction too slow and it’s his turn now to take the ride… three men in under 90 seconds for The Undertaker!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Tanaka eliminated in 2:35 by The Undertaker</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Undertaker grabs Shawn Michaels, who also goes up for a chokeslam, superior ring positioning though means that the Rocker is able to survive yet again! The Undertaker turning his attention to the other two men in the ring.</p><p> </p><p> Valentine and Savage appear to have entered a schoolyard argument with each other, neither looking comfortable with being the next to attempt to attack The Undertaker. They both seem to agree to attack at the same time but Savage sidesteps at the last second leaving Valentine to fend for himself as the buzzer sounds.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#22. As he drops to one knee, Savage joins in and the two kick and stomp at The Undertaker, until he finally falls flat on his back. This union was never set to last as Savage and Animal begin to trade blows with each other, even as the time runs out, we can see The Undertaker sitting up behind the two</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#23. The Eighth Wonder of the World is in the house and he’s on his way to the ring! As the commentary team excitedly run through Andre’s list of achievements, The Undertaker is taking care of other business! Animal and Savage had stopped to watch the returning Giant, clearly wondering if things could get any worse for them when Undertaker had stalked behind Animal, grabbing him in the now familiar choke position, Animal looked to break free only for a second arm to be placed around his throat, Undertaker lifted him high with both arms and threw him over the top rope even as Andre arrived at the ringside.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Animal eliminated in 2:53 by The Undertaker </em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Randy Savage moved straight to the corner and stood with his back to the ropes watching, like the audience this huge clash of the giants. Standing in the centre of the ring, Andre simply looked down at The Undertaker as the two started intently at one another, nose to nose. Undertaker threw the first blow but Andre shook it off, he exchanged it with one of his own and it had the same result! Undertaker grabbed Andre by the throat and looked to propel him towards the ropes but the Giant broke the hold and grabbed The Deadman himself. With a chokeslam of his own, Andre lifted The Undertaker over the top rope and sent arguably the most dangerous man in the competition down and out!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>The Undertaker eliminated in 5:38 by Andre the Giant </em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Seeing the way the wind was blowing, The Macho King wasted no time with a flurry of blows he caught the off balance Giant just right and sent him out over the top after The Undertaker, to clear the ring!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Andre the Giant eliminated in 1:42 by Randy Savage</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> The clock continued to tick down as Savage waited impassively in the ring.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#24. ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan</strong></span></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Duggan.jpg</span></p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Still Alive:</span></strong><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Randy Savage (10:00)</strong></p><p> </p><p> Hooooooooooooooo!!! Jim Duggan marches to the ring waving Old Glory and carrying his trusty 2x4. Entering the ring with his plank, he’s caught by the onrushing Savage who punches and kicks his opponent into the canvas. Picking up the 2x4, he cracks Duggan with the board, leaving him dazed, it’s simplicity itself for Savage to put the finishing touches to the assault with a casual toss to the outside, wiping his hands afterwards like he was throwing out the trash.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>’Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan eliminated in 0:59 by Randy Savage</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> As Savage continues to rest and Piper tells us that Savage has a huge advantage and could win this thing, the camera follows Jim Duggan’s sorry walk to the back.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#25. The two begin brawling as Gorilla Monsoon consults the rule book… apparently The Iron Sheik must make it to the ring before his two minutes are up – Piper and McMahon then ask whether the fact Duggan has already been eliminated has a factor in this… no-one seems to know but it’s an academic point, Duggan – having gotten the better of The Sheik – is dragged off to the back and The Iron Sheik is free to enter the ring just as the ten count for the new participant reaches its climax, Savage having been given another two minutes to rest hassle free…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#26. The Hulkster tears down to the ring, stopping only to rip his shirt from his own back. Two of his most hated enemies over the years stand in the ring before him and it’s clear that they have teamwork on their minds! Even as Hogan enters the ring, the assault begins, with the Iron Sheik and Randy Savage commencing a vicious beatdown of The Hulkster. At no point does either man look like breaking this alliance – but neither do they appear interested in trying to eliminate the former champion.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#27. The Iron Sheik has Hogan in a camel clutch while Savage arrogantly slaps his face. Crush meanwhile stomps on Hogan’s legs as the crowd begin to boo heavily. It can’t get worse can it?</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#28. Macho King leaps to the top turnbuckle and delivers a Macho Elbow and the crowd are in shock. The Hulkster is convulsing and the four heels are now discussing how to get him up and over the top… the four of them pick him up and drape him over the ropes…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#29. A boot to Earthquake’s mid-section looks to be followed up by a running knee but Randy Savage cuts Hawk off, with a strong uppercut punch that sends him reeling into the ropes. The Iron Sheik is continuing to wail on Hogan even as Savage and Earthquake combine to send Hawk over the top rope.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Hawk eliminated in 0:54 by Randy Savage & Earthquake</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Savage, Earthquake & The Iron Sheik return to beating down Hogan… who is desperately trying to get back on to his feet to no avail.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>#30. Davey Boy Smith runs to the ring and makes a beeline for Earthquake! The other two seem content to allow Quake to take care of the Bulldog so continue to choke out Hogan. Bulldog though seems to be getting the upper hand, with amazing speed, The Bulldog scoops up Earthquake and delivers a huge powerslam to a roar of approval from the crowd! Getting gingerly back on his feet, Earthquake has lost his smug look and looks to be shaking with anger. Davey Boy steps to it again and this time it’s Earthquake who scoops up Davey Boy, turning around he hurls him over the top rope and to the floor, leaving Hulk Hogan to fend for himself once again.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>The British Bulldog eliminated in 2:11 by Earthquake</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> The three men continue their assault on Hulk Hogan and as he proves himself a deadweight, they decided to unleash their finishers on him again… All three turn to celebrate as Earthquake begins his Aftershocks… But Hogan is up on one knee… he’s blowing hard and shaking his head! All three men know what this means but try to turn their tide their way again… A punch to the head from The Iron Sheik, and Hogan simply shakes his head… before pointing directly in The Iron Sheik’s face! Another blow thrown but blocked by Hogan, a big punch by The Hulkster… an Irish whip… and The Iron Sheik is over the top rope and out!!!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>The Iron Sheik eliminated in 15:15 by Hulk Hogan</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> Hogan is on a wave now and seems to be impervious to the blows from his opponents… until a low blow by Macho takes the wind out of his sails! He’s absolutely furious and claims that The Warrior can’t interfere! The commentary team are insistent though, Randy Savage has eliminated himself – The Warrior’s not stopping to debate the rules either and he’s chasing Randy Savage back up the aisleway!</p><p> </p><p> Meanwhile, Earthquake has been trying to force Hogan over the top rope with no success… suddenly Hogan begins to shake again…. He blocks an Earthquake blow and returns one of his own, he sends Earthquake into the ropes and follows up with a Big Boot… Earthquake has gone over the top! It’s all over! </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Earthquake eliminated in 9:32 by Hulk Hogan</em></strong></p><p> </p><p> The Hulkster is the first man to win the Royal Rumble twice!!! While the show was very workmanlike in that there were few shocks in terms of the results, he was pleased with the way the show came together and felt that the booking has helped to add a few extra dimensions to the undercard in particular as the build for Wrestlemania intensifies. Certainly, the show raised more questions than it did answers and that’s something we can certainly all be grateful for as the Road to Wrestlemania seems to have taken a slight, but important, change in direction.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Hogan.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Earthquake.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Hulk Hogan’s record setting performance has got tongues wagging backstage! Early plans actually had Earthquake going over in the match but Hogan used his creative control to nix the move. Hogan was said to be particularly upset that Vince McMahon had ignored his pleas to not sign Paul Orndorff to a contract. There remains bad blood between the two stemming back to their huge house show run together in 1986. By booking Hogan as the winner and in having a massive hand in the outcome of the title match, McMahon has taken steps to massage Hogan’s ego.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Slaughter.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Warrior.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Surprise highlight of the night proved to be the exciting encounter between Sgt. Slaughter and The Ultimate Warrior. Both men have the crowd to thank for the match being so well received, they were truly white hot and both men were extremely over. Although being slightly overbooked, the finish played out well and has opened a number of intriguing possibilities. Most had expected Warrior to retain and head for a date with Randy Savage in the future – that did happen, but with Warrior making reference to a second clash with Hulk Hogan and The Hulkster going on to win the Rumble, it has raised fresh questions as to how the company will proceed. This week’s TV should hopefully make things a little clearer.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Shane.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Did you spot referee Shane Stevens? It would’ve been hard not to given his prominent position in the finish! Shane’s real surname is McMahon and, yes, he’s the son and heir to Vince McMahon, owner and head booker of the World Wrestling Federation! Stevens has been impressing a number of the boys backstage with his willingness to get his hands dirty and train – with Danny Davis’ recent termination some are speculating that Stevens may take his place as the breakout wrestler/referee.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Orndorff.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Orton.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Andre.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Vince McMahon is said to be privately pleased at the surprise of his three mystery entrants! While there had been heavy rumours of Andre’s involvement, we certainly hadn’t picked up any speculation over Bob Orton or Paul Orndorff. Orton’s involvement was certainly a one-shot deal and he’s left the group on excellent terms. DiBiase as well, I have a neat little story arc in mind that will crib off what happened in real life and take it in a different direction.</p><p> </p><p> I prefer slight swerve!  I kept things pretty much the way they happened apart from reversing the result and having Hogan directly involved – it’s the key component for me as to why things didn’t make sense in 1991 – yes Hogan hated Slaughter but there’s no reason for him to have given Hogan a title shot – now Slaughter has a reason to hate Hogan (more than his being pro-America anyway). Also didn’t like Savage no-showing the Rumble itself.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Schabernack666" data-cite="Schabernack666" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="39632" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> Easy win on the road to the "perfect" match </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> It was pretty predictable but the booking of the time really tied my hands – there was nothing else for the IC champion in the works in the build to Wrestlemania and no real credible fresh singles wrestlers to work against (Tornado having been beaten comprehensively and Bulldog too new) – I think I’ve addressed that a little with the way I’ve booked Paul Orndorff and it gives options at least moving forward!</p>

Backstage with Sean Mooney:

After brief footage of their altercation at the Brother Love Show, The Rockers are still fired up and issue a challenge to Haku & The Barbarian for the Tribute to the Troops show in Hawaii in three weeks time. They tell them that this is the time for them to really prove themselves to be the best.

The Texas Tornado vs Dino Bravo (w/ Jimmy Hart):

Two men who met in last week’s Royal Rumble clash now as Dino Bravo looks to recapture some of his lost face from the event. The strength advantage is clear to see but Kerry Von Erich is no slouch himself and has the natural speed and flair to avoid most of Bravo’s clumsy attempts at locking on submission moves. In a piece of wonderful irony, it’s Bravo who finds himself at the mercy of Von Erich’s submission move, The Iron Claw, and has no choice but to quit out.

Winner: The Texas Tornado in 4:45

Grade:C+

In a pre-recorded interview:

Rick ‘The Model’ Martel takes time out from his ‘busy modelling schedule’ to mock Jake Roberts’ elimination in last week’s Royal Rumble and that his title shot against Mr. Perfect will only end in the same way, Jake lying embarrassed on his back, until he turns on his belly and writhes away.

Grade: C+

Video Package:

The commentary team narrate a short video of the highlights of the Royal Rumble, explaining that Sgt. Slaughter, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, The Iron Sheik & Earthquake are all resting tonight as they run over the finale of the main event and the WWF championship match.

Grade: A

In the back with Gene Okerlund:

Bobby Heenan is smugly waving a piece of paper at Mean Gene and explaining that he has a court injunction to prevent instant referee video replays of controversial incidents. He has successfully argued that a major change to the sport that could result in delays to the matches should be debated by a team of experts and that Jack Tunney has had no option but to agree. A debate has been organised for Wrestlemania VII and Bobby Heenan will be proud to be a part of the most monumental decision in wrestling history. Gene Okerlund shakes his head in disgust as Heenan smirks at the camera.

Grade: B-

Dynamic Dudes vs. Demolition (w/Mr. Fuji):

After a decent run since joining the WWF, The Dynamic Dudes are given their strongest challenge yet against the brutal and dangerous Demolition. The early going is dominated by Crush and Smash battering down on the two youngsters with relish. Try as they might though, they can’t seem to put Ace and Douglas down for the count, the youngsters bravely battling out of danger each time. All good things have to come to an end though and with Ace ready take the Demolition Decapitation things took an unexpected turn thanks to The Legion of Doom! Hawk and Animal belted down to the ring and their distraction was enough for Ace to escape and make the tag to Shane Douglas, the schoolboy roll-up on Smash was unexpected as it was popular with the crowd, Douglas stealing the 1-2-3 and a huge upset victory for his team!

Winners: The Dynamic Dudes in 7:55

Grade: C-

On the Brother Love Show:

Following Wednesday’s cancellation, The Brother Love Show is back and he brings out his special guest... The Undertaker! Love has been managing The Undertaker since his arrival in the WWF but knows that the greatest love is all is the love of family... and when The Undertaker’s long lost father reached out to him... he couldn’t resist but hand over the contract... From out of the back comes The Undertaker’s new manager, his father Paul Bearer! Bearer speaks with a spooky voice and tells the world that The Undertaker is the most dangerous man in the WWF... it took a giant to eliminate him from the Royal Rumble but nothing will stop that Giant from being put to rest from the memories of the WWF should he be foolish enough to show his face again.

Grade: B-

’Mr Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff vs. Rikki Nelson:

Before the math, footage of Orndorff’s surprise return at the Royal Rumble was shown, including his spat with Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan. Orndorff wastes little time in showing the audience why he’s called Mr. Wonderful – putting an end to Rikki Nelson with a piledriver.

Winner: Paul Orndorff in2:35

Grade: C-

With the match over, the camera lingers on Orndorff as he puts on his robe and begins to head to the back. As he’s doing so, in preparation for the next match, Mr. Perfect’s music plays and he strides towards the ring. Perfect stops in front of Orndorff and refuses to move out of his way. Mr. Wonderful gets right up in Perfect’s face and while we can’t make out everything that’s being said, it’s clear a warning is being given! Perfect looks slightly shaken and doesn’t put up any resistance when Bobby Heenan pulls him clear, allowing Orndorff to walk past, not looking back.

World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship:

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts vs. Mr. Perfect ©

If Perfect was affected by the last clash with Orndorff, he didn’t let it show when the bell rang as this gripping encounter got underway. Jake Roberts was fired up and soon had Mr. Perfect bouncing around the ring as he looked to grab his first WWF title. If anything, Jake was perhaps too fired up, forcing a warning from the referee for his ‘exuberance’. The break in the match allowed Perfect to get back into things and forced an error from Jake that very nearly cost him the match, the Perfect-Plex was applied but the fingers remained unlocked and allowed Jake to get out. Jake clearly took this as a wake-up call and enjoyed another period of domination. When Perfect attempted a clothesline and was caught in an armlock, the crowd seemed to sense what was happening and began chanting for the DDT... sure enough the short-clothesline connected and Jake called for the DDT with a twirl of the wrist! Picking up Perfect, Jake hit a picture perfect DDT and as Bobby Heenan looked on in horror, Jake seemed to have it in the bag... But out from the back came Rick ‘The Model’ Martel who wasted no time in jumping on to the apron... Jake immediately went to grab at Martel and a short scuffle began, The Model trying desperately to get away from him... the referee tried to split the two while Heenan was in the ring slapping Perfect in the face to try and wake him. As Perfect came to, Heenan jammed the Intercontinental title into his hands... with the referee finally able to pull the two apart, Jake turned around and was hit square in the head with the IC title! Throwing the belt to the outside, Perfect dropped down for the pin just as the referee turned around. The three count was a mere formality as Mr. Perfect retained his title by the skin of his teeth!

Winner: Mr. Perfect in 15:05

In Behind the Scenes News

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Steamboat.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Owen.jpg

The latest recruits to the WWF locker room were officially unveiled prior to Wrestling Challenge when ‘The Rocket’ Owen Hart and Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat were officially included on the WWF’s roster.

Steamboat has been told by Vince McMahon that he has to prove himself again and that his achievements in the NWA are not going to be taken into account. McMahon is reportedly still unhappy at Steamboat for his putting family over business during his intercontinental title run in 1987 and has publically said he’s not sure if he can trust The Dragon to carry a title again. Rumours had it that McMahon signed Steamboat primarily to stop him being used as an asset by WCW.

Hart, meanwhile – the younger brother of Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart was poached directly from WCW where rumour had it that he was expected to be pushed up the card sooner rather than later. It remains to be seen how Owen will be used but some unbroadcasted promo interviews were filmed with Owen acting as a manager for Bret and Jim Neidhart.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Perfect.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Bulldog.jpg

The British Bulldog’s continued problems backstage nearly reached boiling point this week, Davey Boy being pulled from a headline match with Mr. Perfect as a result and replaced by Jake Roberts! Fortunately, on seeing that things were reaching a very serious level, Mr. Perfect came clean and admitted that Davey Boy was responding to a mean spirited prank he’d played on him and that the Bulldog was not to blame. McMahon was grateful to Perfect for being honest but did give him a stern warning about his behaviour and the consequences, which Perfect accepted as fair and reasonable. Smith is not expected to be punished for his part in the events.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Hogan.jpg

Is Hogan losing his power backstage? We understand that following his political move to make himself the winner of the Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon was less than pleased and that this was the major factor in The Ultimate Warrior’s retention of the WWF title. Original plans had Hogan facing Sgt. Slaughter for the WWF title at Wrestlemania VII but with Hogan’s latest power play, plans were changed to remove The Hulkster from the main event scene. Of course, with Hogan still the biggest star in the industry, it remains to be seen whether McMahon will hold strong on this position or find a way for Hogan to get back in the title picture for Wrestlemania in Los Angeles.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/WWF%20Storm/Troops.jpg

Before Wrestlemania, the WWF has another PPV to deal with – the Tribute to the Troops is set to take place in Hawaii with servicemen from the Pearl Harbour naval base being invited as complimentary guests. Expect some Sgt. Slaughter / Hulk Hogan interaction and we understand that The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage will headline the event.

More to come next week when we expect the WWF to confirm the card.

Ideally I'd have liked Earthquake to go over to have some kind of challenge with Davey Boy about being unable to get him off his feet, or something of that nature. At that time Earthquake was still pretty over and I think in reality it damaged him badly not winning the event - there was no need for Hogan to win the Rumble in 91 (or in 90...but that's another story!)

You're right that it was a predictable show and to be honest, things will stay relatively predictable until beyond Wrestlemania... however, there are a few other things in the mix now. I've booked up to T4 (Tribute To The Troops) and am pretty happy with the direction we're headed to. Mania VII should be a good show (I hope!) with most of the players given something to fight for/about!

And Owen's in now... as you can see! Sid's safely locked down to WCW at the moment and that's fine with me!:p

In a Pre-Recorded Interview with Sean Mooney:

Jake Roberts is speaking after losing his Intercontinental title shot last week. Roberts is extremely fired up and tells Rick Martel that he can keep duck and hiding but eventually, just like the cobra he’ll corner his prey and then, there will be no escape from his vengeance. Retribution will be had.

Backstage with Gene Okerlund:

‘Mean’ Gene is talking to the WWF Tag Team Champions, The Hart Foundation before their title defence. Bret tells Okerlund that he’s been on the phone to his folks at home and they’re proud of what he’s achieved... so proud that they’ve asked to look out for his baby brother and show him how to succeed in wrestling. Neidhart looks less wrapped than Bret as his brother, Owen walks into shot. Beaming a huge smile and clearly very excited, Owen gives his brother a double high five, pats Gene on the shoulder and turns to high five Anvil who just stares at him, slowly shaking his head. After the awkward pause, Owen gives a short promo telling us how excited he is to be here in the World Wrestling Federation and will be looking to learn from the very best – his big brother!

Grade: C

The Hart Foundation © (w/ Owen Hart) vs Power & Glory (w/ Slick):

An unsually long title match on WWF television, sees two very similarly set-up teams go all out to impress. With Owen Hart in their corner, The Hart Foundation come out of the blocks a little sharper than their foes and nearly steal an early win when Roma is hoisted up for the Hart Attack clothesline in only two minutes... Hercules is quick off his mark though and flattens the Hitman with a running tackle before he can connect with Roma. Following this Power & Glory pull back into contention and were left furious when Owen Hart seemed to trip Roma by backing into the apron and causing Roma to lose his stride. As Slick complained to the referee, Owen pleaded it was an accident! The confusion was enough for Anvil to hit a gut-wrench suplex on Hercules and, following a quick tag to Bret Hart, allowed a Hart Attack Clothesline to finish the match off.

Winners: The Hart Foundation in 12:18

Grade:B-

At Ringside:

While talking over the Hart Foundation’s latest title defence and speculating whether Ted DiBiase will be looking to challenge them again at ‘Tribute to the Troops’, Roddy Piper takes the opportunity to respond to DiBiase’s comments from last week. The way he sees it, Tubby Teddy should stick to what he knows which is counting his money because if he keeps running his mouth then he’ll be left counting his teeth when Piper is done with him! After being pressed by Vince McMahon, Piper admits that he’s tried to contact Virgil but he won’t return his calls.

On Screen Graphic:

Speaking of title matches... the commentary team are able to exclusively reveal that Mr. Perfect will make a mandatory Intercontinental Title defence against The Big Boss Man at Tribute to the Troops next week!

Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka vs Rick ‘The Model’ Martel:

The Superfly starts this match strongly with Martel spending a lot of his time furtively looking around the ring area and to the back in search of Jake Roberts. As Snuka’s attacks intensify though, Martel begins to settle into the match, it doesn’t stop Snuka getting himself to the position of looking for his signature splash at one point, with Martel flat on his back! Snuka takes a split second too long though, and Martel is able to roll away as he slams face first into the canvas! Before he can recover, Martel has clambered onto Snuka’s back and locks in the Boston Crab! Snuka has no choice but to quit out.

Winner: Rick ‘The Model’ Martel in 7:57

Backstage with Sean Mooney:

Randy Savage is pacing the dressing room – he bellows into the microphone that The Ultimate Warrior has only got himself to blame for what’s going to happen to him... he challenges Warrior to be a man and meet him at Tribute to the Troops, face to face. He robbed him of his chance to win the Royal Rumble and now he’s going to take that World Wrestling Federation Championship back where it belongs... if the Warrior’s brave enough to face him that is...

Grade: B+

Hulk Hogan vs The Iron Sheik (w/ General Adnan):

What a main event! The building comes unglued as Hulk Hogan takes on his hated rival, The Iron Sheik. The commentary team explain the history of these two and that Hogan won his first world title from the Sheik in this very venue... but this time things are for even higher stakes – the honour of the United States! The Iron Sheik knows how to get the most out of Hogan and takes the match to him from the beginning – every opportunity to cut corners and cheat is taken! Hogan is effectively fighting two men thanks to General Adnan’s constant interference. Even this isn’t enough to put The Hulkster down though and soon Sgt. Slaughter has made his way to ringside! With Hogan in the ascendancy, having Hulked-Up and hitting the Big Boot, Slaughter jumps into the ring and gets a blatant disqualification against the Sheik by unloading on Hogan.

Winner: Hulk Hogan in 10:48

Grade: B

Even as the bell sounds, Slaughter continues his body blows into the Hulkster as the crowd hurl abuse. The Sheik is back up now too and, along with Adnan, the three of them are pounding into the defenceless Hogan... as Adnan begins to screw the end of his flagpole into Hogan’cranium, from the back comes Jim Duggan, 2x4 in hand! He wastes no time in swinging the plank at all and sundry as the heels back off! ‘Hacksaw’ helps Hogan to his feet and the two mouth at the retreating enemy before Hogan and Hacksaw break out the poses to end the show.

Another good set of shows, it seems like you're really hitting a good stride on these. Do you have any plans on eventually bringing Raw into the formula? I am intrigued to see who DiBiase brings in as his partner for T4. The only person of major note that I don't yet see on the card is Earthquake, so he is my guess at this moment. Loved the "illegal wind farming" line for Mountie, and hey what's this; Brooklyn Brawler won a match?! Blasphemy! I like the pairing of Tito and Greg, it actually makes sense given their history that they would have a ton of respect for one another's abilities. The Nastys are capable, you can actually pull some decent match ratings out of them once in awhile, and Chico/Hammer should be able to do one. Can't wait to see what happens next week on Superstars!
