Throwdown September

Colorado's Clay Lite Arena, 9507 in attendance.

A video recaps the tag title tournament. (D)

Military Discipline vs Rollins & South

Rollins and South are cheating like crazy here; Military Discipline look a smooth team - unsurprisingly given all their experience - but they can't keep up with the constant double-teaming and cheapshots from Derrick and Garrett.

Rollins & South defeated Military Discipline in 17:54 when Garrett South defeated Corporal Punishment by pinfall with a Southern Justice. ©

Rollins & South cut a promo saying they'll show that they're superior to any of the 'name' teams in the fed, whoever wins the tag titles. (C+)

A video plays hyping Strength Through Honour vs. The Strykers in the final of the World Cup. (E+)

Touchdown vs Idris Mwai Fonseca

Touchdown bumps well here, with Fonseca looking fairly dominant and beating him without too many problems.

Idris Mwai Fonseca defeated Touchdown in 10:30 by pinfall with a Currency Stabilizer. (D)

Smokin' Stevie Gunn cuts a backstage promo saying he's ready for this, the biggest match of his thirty year career. (C-)

Jerry King takes a break from the announce table to hype his clients The Gibson Brothers, putting over how great the superstars really are. (D)

Jesse Van Holt and Cordero Calderon vs Nathan Anderson and The Ghost Rider

Good brawl here, but Nathan Anderson is clearly the weakest link. As The Ghost Rider gets held off by Jesse Van Holt, Calderon is able to nail Nathan for the victory.

Jesse Van Holt and Cordero Calderon defeated Nathan Anderson and The Ghost Rider in 10:30 when Cordero Calderon defeated Nathan Anderson by pinfall with a Pride of Puerto Rico. ©

Post match, after the faces leave, The Ghost Rider stares at Nathan Anderson who falls to his knees begging forgiveness. (D)

Backstage, Towerblock screams that he'll wipe the floor with Gunn. (A)

The Furlong Brothers vs Fabulous French-Canadians

This is very heated, with the crowd firmly behind the American team here, and there's a huge pop is Big Al manages to get the win with a Welcome to LA.

Furlong Brothers defeated Fabulous French-Canadians in 12:12 when Big Al defeated Anton Brassette by pinfall with a Welcome To L.A.. (D-)

Post-match, Christina and Sandi celebrate with the Furlongs. (E)

PR Future vs Pain & Torture

This is pretty quick, with Pain & Torture dominating. The end comes when Vidal is hoisted into the Torture Rack and gives up.

Pain & Torture defeated PR Future in 7:47 when Torture defeated Alex Vidal by submission with a Torture Rack. (D)

Chelsea Lane cuts a backstage promo complaining about the lack of a women's match, saying Jamilia Rose is clearly too scared to face her as she knows she'll only ever beat her by cheating. (D)

A video plays hyping Smokin' Stevie Gunn vs. Towerblock. ©

World Cup Final/Tag title match: The Strykers vs Strength Through Honour

Really good technical contest here, with a lot of mutual respect shown. Both teams take control for a few minutes at a time but can't dominate. In the end, it's Cody Stryker who pulls off the win, trapping Honour in the Boston Crab for the tap-out.

The Strykers defeated Strength Through Honour in 16:23 when Cody Stryker defeated Honour Katsumoto by submission with a Boston Crab. The Strykers win the HTRW Southern Tag titles. (D+)

Southern title match: Smokin' Stevie Gunn vs Towerblock ©

Gunn looks good here but can't quite pull it off; fighting back hard whatever Towerblock hits him with, until the Ten Storey Chokeslam gets the victory.

Towerblock defeated Smokin' Stevie Gunn in 17:45 by pinfall with a Ten Storey Chokeslam. Towerblock makes defence number 2 of his HTRW Southern title. Not enough selling, TB tiring. (B-)

B-, increasing pop in 11 regions. I praise TB and Strykers.

Idris copes reasonably well with Calderon's improvisation here, compared to pretty much anyone else who's been involved in a promo with him. (C-)

Idris Mwai Fonseca beats Cordero Calderon by pinfall with a Currency Stabilizer. ©

Towerblock beats Cody Stryker by pinfall with a Ten Storey Chokeslam. Towerblock makes defence number 3 of his HTRW Southern title. Not enough selling here and Cody is off his game, while 18 minutes is still too long to ask Towerblock to go, really, but despite this it's a heck of a match - there seems to be something about these two that draws out the best in each other. (B-)

B-, increasing our popularity in 11 regions. 1.53 rating.

Thanks for kind words, No Neck!

48 hours or so until the card is up if people want to predict. Will try and sort out the recaps requested by last month's winners later tonight or tomorrow morning!

Throwdown October Week 4

Derrick Rollins and Garrett South have been rising through the ranks of the tag scene since teaming up. They've irritated nearly all of the established teams with their arrogant promos but took it to another level when they came out during a Furlong Brothers match last week to hit on Harris and Al's valets/girlfriends, Christina and Sandy. These four men will collide!

Idris Mwai Fonseca was brought into the federation as a hand-picked opponent for Stevie Gunn last month, Towerblock choosing the veteran to soften up his title challenger just prior to the PPV. He did his job perfectly, injuring Gunn's ribs with chair shots, which may have helped Towerblock retain 2 days later. Fonseca then brought in Matt Cole as his mystery partner to challenge for the tag titles but was unsuccessful, ending a four match win streak. Gunn's out for revenge and has chosen British rookie BJ Powers to team with him.

The Gibson Brothers were putting together a streak of victories until they ran into the reformed Van Holts, who stopped them in their tracks. Military Discipline had previously fallen to the Gibsons, but since then have won 2 in a row, putting them 2 wins away from a title shot.

With The Ghost Rider taking an enforced break from the fed after losing to Stevie Gunn in a 'loser leaves town for a month' tag match, Nathan Anderson is back with his brothers - although looking distracted. Can they get on the same page to beat PR Future and their mentor Cordero Calderon?

The Fabulous French-Canadians made an open challenge last week which was answered by newly paired-up JK - Kay Pasa and Joe Havanna.

And in title matches, two cash-ins on the four wins for a title match clause, as Pain & Torture challenge The Strykers and Jesse Van Holt, fresh from beating his brother Martin, goes up against Towerblock!

September Recap

As requested by MJStark and MHero.

NAWF had a good start to the month, with 3 B- shows including their Sunday Night Showdown PPV (just 7 seats short of a full house in Arizona's Fox Arena!) Sebastian Curtis kicked off September by defending his title in a four-way vs Mo Fury, Zeke King and VIP (B-) but the following week shockingly droppped a non-title match to Bill Hickock (B). On that same show, Living Life won the Tag Titles from The Cattle Rustlers in a poor contest. (D+) The PPV had a great main, Curtis retaining his belt against Fury, while Marco De Francesco forcing Ali Ababwa to tap out in the semi-main drew praise ©. Things took a turn for the worse with the next two shows however; Roscoe Carmine beating Bill Hickock in the third TV show of the month's main event was slightly disappointing (C+) while Idaho got a great non-title bout with DeFrancesco forcing Curtis to submit (B) but half the crowd was asleep after a dreadful semi-main of Mercy and Ababwa going over South Central. (C+)

TXW's No Turning Back 1 sold out the Bodydrop Gymnasium for the second month in a row, although the show wasn't as well-received. (D-) No title changes; 9th Street Anarchists defended successfully against Crime Scene and Kyushichi Mizumaki (D-) while Red Rock beat Marty Ambrose to retain his King of New York belt (D).

SJPW put on a series of good to great shows (B, C, C+ and 5 B-s) building up to an excellent Hero's Ambition (B). No title changes. Semi-main of the PPV, seeing Kintaro Kinjo retain his Heavyweight belt against Waotaka Eda, was the best match of the month, shading out that card's main event, a six-man tag with GIANT Kodama, Kenta Sonoda and Kahoku Meka beating Koto Arato, Oda Yamawaki and Eikichi Minamoto. (Both B). Other well-reeceived matches during the month included Sonoda over TOKI Nogushi, Sonoda's time-limit draw with Koji Yamada, Kinjo beating Gonshiro Anzai non-title, and Atonga/Meka going over Strong Dynamite. (All Bs)

WORLD-1 had a great month (6 B shows, 3 B- shows) and saw a title change, Sen Masuda losing the Intercontinental to Jin Fujiwara. Juro Deguchi is clearly their main man, following up his incredible August match against KATO (A) with an excellent bout against El Samurai, which he won, and a triple threat with Shintaro Hideki and BURNING Nori, Nor going over. (Both B+s) A rematch againt Samurai (another win) and a defeat of Kotei Yamato (both B+s) were also excellent, while New Solution's defeat of Ignite Zero was clearly both the best tag match and the best match not to involve Deguchi. (B+)

Throwdown October

Mid-West, Iowa's Titan Centre

Furlong Brothers vs Derrick Rollins and Garrett South

Rollins and South act like bigger jerks than usual here, not only cheating but also constantly complimenting Sandi and Christina, suggesting that they should trade up from a couple of no-hopers like the Furlongs. Al is getting increasingly irate and as he charges down when Rollins is hitting on Christina, Rollins gets a drop toe hold which sends him head first into the steel steps. In the ring, Southern Justice on Harris finishes it off for Garrett.

Rollins & South defeated The Furlong Brothers in 13:37 when Garrett South defeated Harris Furlong by pinfall with a Southern Justice. (C-)

Garrett South comes up to Christina Perez and asks her out on a date, but she rejects the proposal, trying to check Al is okay. (D+)

A video plays hyping The Strykers vs. Pain & Torture. (C-)

Stevie Gunn and BJ Powers vs Idris Mwai Fonsesca and Matt Cole

Fonsesca and Cole are dominant here, first beating Gunn up until he tags out and, after a brief flurry of offense from Powers, viciously targeting the Brit's leg. Powers is brave, resisting for as long as he can, but when Cole traps him in a damaging-looking figure four and Fonsesca stops Gunn from making the save, the veteran throws in the towel to save his partner from being hurt further by his refusal to quit.

Idris Mwai Fonseca and Matt Cole defeated Smokin' Stevie Gunn and BJ Powers in 12:26 when Idris Mwai Fonseca defeated BJ Powers after Gunn throws the towel in. (D-)

Post match, with Powers struggling to get to his feet, Idris Mwai Fonseca and Matt Cole attack Smokin' Stevie Gunn in the ring, and leave him down and out. (D+)

Diego Monterrey and Nocturno are in the ring for an unscheduled match. Out of nowhere, a monstrous figure hits the ring and attacks. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves both men completely destroyed. The commentary team sell their shock at the presence of the man, who doesn't work for us (supposedly!) but who knowledgeable fans may know as the man they call KHANAGE! (E+)

Military Discipline vs Gibson Brothers

Perfectly acceptable wrestling here, if nothing that's going to set the world alight. Jerry King cheers on the Gibsons from the commentary table, and their smooth double-teaming - without the need for the cheating South and Rollins resort to - is enough to bring them through the challenge.

The Gibson Brothers defeated Military Discipline in 13:52 when Mike Gibson defeated Corporal Punishment by submission with a Bearhug. (D+)

Post-match, King leaves the commentary table to celebrate with The Gibson Brothers and cuts a promo putting over how great the superstars really are. (C-)

Backstage, Rollins & South boast that NOBODY can live up to the standards they're setting in HTRW. (C+)

Cordero Calderon/PR Future vs Andersons

This is basically 3 vs 2, with the Ghost Rider's protege Nathan Anderson seeming to still be in the daze he's been in since Gunn sent his mentor packing for a month. His brothers are getting frustrated with him, and the numbers advantage pays off for the faces when Vidal's able to hit No More Pride on Mason.

Cordero Calderon and PR Future defeated The Andersons (Nathan Anderson, Jason Anderson and Mason Anderson) in 9:53 when Alex Vidal defeated Mason Anderson by pinfall with a No More Pride. (D)

Dedrick Ace debuts his 'Ace Talking' chat show, interviewing Chelsea Lane, who speaks of her frustration that Jamilia Rose keeps ducking her. (D+)

JK vs Fabulous French-Canadians

The newly-formed team look good here, Pasa taking control of much of the match. The Brassettes seem to have lost a step to age, but do a professional job of putting the other two over.

JK defeated Fabulous French-Canadians in 12:04 when Kay Pasa defeated Pascal Brassette by pinfall with a Running Headbutt. (D-)

Tag title match: The Strykers vs Pain and Torture

This is a wild, out of control brawl, with lots of hard-hitting strikes. As tough as the brothers are, Pain and Torture are just too much for them when they go head to head, and Danny Stryker resorts to desperate measures as he sees Pain lift Cody up on the outside as if to powerbomb him onto the concrete. A clumsy dive through the ropes from the younger Stryker wipes out both men, as well as Danny himself, and with Torture lying prone in the ring after being hit with a huge Death Valley Driver, he picks up the countout victory - but not the titles.

Pain & Torture defeated The Strykers in 18:04 when Danny Stryker was counted out. ©

Southern title match: Jesse Van Holt vs Towerblock

Towerblock is tough, but Van Holt is on fire at the moment and his devastating Van Holtinator is perhaps the fed's most-feared move. He spends nearly twenty minutes softening up the big man for it, but in the end it's all for nothing - a Ten Storey Chokeslam out of nowhere means it's all she wrote for the challenger.

Towerblock defeated Jesse Van Holt in 19:11 by pinfall with a Ten Storey Chokeslam. Towerblock makes defence number 5 of his HTRW Southern title. (B-)

(D)

Big Al and Harris get into an argument about the loss and Al getting distracted by South, who walks off smirking. (E+)

Jesse Van Holt and The Strykers beat Idris Mwai Fonseca and Pain & Torture when Jesse Van Holt beats Idris Mwai Fonseca by submission with a Van Holtinator. Nice six-man here, Pain and Torture isolating Danny Stryker well for a decent amount of time until Fonseca tags in and misses a running clothesline attempt, allowing Jesse to make the hot tag and quickly lock on that deadly Van Holtinator. (C-)

Marco De Francesco comes out and sarcastically applauds Jesse, saying it must be good to have the second most feared hold in HTRW. The two get into an argument which leads to JVH making a challenge to MDF for next week! (B-)

Jesse Van Holt runs out and slides into the ring to make the save, only for Towerblock to hurl Monterrey at him. Picking both men up, he throws them to the outside one after the other. (B+)

Back at sold out Ranch

Super TIGER issues an open challenge, answered by Anton Brassette. (E)

Super TIGER beats Anton Brassette by submission with a TIGER Triangle. (D)

Jamilia Rose beats Addyson Jett by pinfall with a Rose's Thorn. (D-)

Jamilia Rose attacks Addyson Jett post-match, and leaves her down and out. (E)

Backstage, Dedrick Ace hypes the Strykers, saying how dominant they are but how they want to prove themselves against the best of the best - and since the Gibsons are doing well at the moment, why wait for them to get a fourth victory in a row to be able to challenge? The Strykers will be happy to take them on for the titles TONIGHT. (D)

The Furlong Brothers beat The Arctic Alliance when Harris Furlong beats Tundra by pinfall with a Welcome To L.A. This is a solid match, the most notable moment being Garrett South coming down to flirt with Sandi and Christina, but Big Al this time manages to ignore his rival and concentrate on the team he's fighting against. (D)

Diego Monterrey and Smokin' Gunn are in the ring ready for a tag match. Before their opponents can be introduced, however, the monstrous Khanage comes out of the crowd and attacks both men, leaving them down and out. (D+)

Idris Mwai Fonseca, backstage, taunts Smokin' Stevie Gunn, suggesting that while Khanage may have hurt him just then, next time he steps in the ring with Idris he'll be looking even worse. ©

The Strykers beat The Gibson Brothers when Cody Stryker beats Mike Gibson by submission with a Boston Crab. The Strykers make defence number 3 of their HTRW Southern Tag titles. Very good tag match, one of the best we've had in the company, despite Cody looking slightly off his game here. In the end, the champions have just a little too much skill for the challengers. (C-)

Jesse Van Holt beats Marco De Francesco by pinfall with a small package. As expected, it's a story of two submissions for most of the match as they wear each other down, JVH looking for the Van Holtinator and MDF trying for Pole Position. They've clearly scouted each other out and are adept at avoiding their opponent's finishers - but Van Holt manages to get a small package for the quick pinfall victory as De Francesco tries to pick him up for a slam. (B)

Towerblock cuts a backstage promo saying even if Van Holt picks up a fourth victory in a row next week and challenges him at Throwdown, he doesn't have what it takes to beat him. (B+)

Chelsea challenges Jamilia Rose for Throwdown, saying that if she can't get the victory, she'll quit HTRW! (D)

A video plays hyping The Strykers vs. Pain & Torture. ©

Smokin' Stevie Gunn and Touchdown defeat TNT when Smokin' Stevie Gunn defeats Basher by submission with a Both Barrells. (D-)

The Strykers defeat Idris Mwai Fonseca and The Warrior in a non-title match when Cody Stryker defeats Idris Mwai Fonseca by submission with a Boston Crab. (D+)

Jesse Van Holt beats Derrick Rollins by submission with a Van Holtinator. This pair don't seem to quite click together, which we should have remembered from last time, but it's still a class above what most of our roster can put on. (C+)

Towerblock lumbers down to the ringside to glare at Jesse Van Holt, who mouths "That's four!" at him. It looks like the pair are going to square off here, but officials quickly break it up. (B)

Backstage, Towerblock snarls that it doesn't matter that Van Holt can challenge, he'll never make the champion tap out! (A)

C+, increased pop in 11 regions.

October Recap

As requested by MHero, Tiberious4 and Uncrewed.

GILL's only show of the month saw them sell out the 300-seat Bar Maton for Solucion Del Suicidio. A very impressive show for a company of their size (D+), the Campeon de Mexico title match to close the show saw Nino Guerrero retain against Principe Azteca II in the match of the night (C-). Other title matches saw Yodo Hideki successfully retain her belt against Tegan Merritt, and Los Pieros hold onto their tag straps vs Epidemic and El Temido. (Both D-). In the semi-main, despite being the victim of a pre-match attack by Jaguar de Oro, Dos Aguilas still defeated Galactico. (D+).

Excalibur hit a great run of shows this month, the highlight being PPV Torch of War © coming from Ireland's Kilkenny Hall, but all of their others were nearly as good. (All C or C-). Four title defences at the big show but none changed hands; Scott Hart retaining the heavyweight belt vs Joe Kerr in the main event ©, cousin Jarid beating Adam Britannia in a TV title clash (D+), step-cousin Cassidy retaining her Girl Power title against Ema Gojo in a rather disappointing match (E) and Farmer Al and Tommy Tomlin beating the Staffordshire Saints in the tag title bout (D-). The semi-main, and second best match of the night, saw Jameson Burnes beat Douglas Pallett (C-).

The top feuds at the moment see Douglas Pallett and James Gilmour-Hart team up against Jameson Burnes and Scott Hart, while The Amazing Wrestlers (Jarid Hart and Eviscerator) are having issues with Partners in Crime (Adam Brittania and Shane Burroughs), which have only gotten bigger since Evisecerator cost Britannia that TV title match. Scott main-evented 7 of the 8 TV shows, with his non-title win over James being the match of the month (C+), although he lost by DQ to Douglas Pallett in another match and was pinned by Ash Evans in an Evans/Kerr vs Scott/Burroughs tag contest.

NEW hit Puerto Rico for Halloween Havoc, which featured two of the company's best eight matches so far this year, Drake Richards going over Poco Loco (B) and Cross defeating Love Freedom (B-). The show went down well (C+) but wasn't without controversy - Travis Stine's count-out win over champion Bryce Christensen WASN'T the main event ©, that honour going to a four-way ladder match in which Martin Van Holt beat Ethan Paro, London Noland and Silverback (C+). Van Holt's feud with Drake Richards has produced the best TV match of the month (B), Drake going over, and some outstanding segments backstage. With the fans desperate to see the quiet Van Holt get a win over arrogant Richards, it's clearly the fed's hottest storyline. Other current feuds include Cross trying to take Christensen's World title, Silverback and Joe Havanna going at it, and Paro and Noland having issues after brutalising each other in that ladder match.
