[Gorilla Monsoon and Jessie “The Body” Ventura welcome us to Philadelphia and off the bat hype a massive confrontation on Piper’s Pit tonight when WWF Champion Hulk Hogan stands mere feet away from the most disliked man in the Federation, Rowdy Roddy Piper. Ventura says we’re gonna see fireworks tonight and brotherly love ain’t got a thing to do with it!]

A short match completely dominated by Muraco who even without Mr. Fuji at ringside controls every moment of the match who after working Garea over puts him down for the three count following a devastating looking shoulder breaker.

Winner: Don Muraco by Pinfall (7:25) Grade: 56

[Gene Okerlund is joined by Rowdy Roddy Piper who is in a great mood putting a New Years party hat on Okerlund’s head and blowing a noise maker. Piper says tonight it’s going to be New Years Eve all over agan. The biggest party the WWF has ever seen when Hulk Hogan steps inside Piper’s Pit. And he is going to be a wonderful host. He has a hat for Hogan, he’s got some party favors for Hogan and he’s got an ambulance standing by, because he’s just that kind of a nice guy.]

Murdoch is unimpressed by his younger opponent but Rotundo quickly wipes the smirk off his face with a series of dropkicks and arm drags until Murdoch takes a hiatus to the outside. When he returns he controls the match but Rotundo makes a comeback and surprises the veteran with a Sunset Flip and is able to hold him down for the three count.

Winner: Mike Rotundo by Pinfall (8:17) Grade: 55

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Cyndi%20Lauper_zpsedfzvaca.jpg

[Gene Okerlund welcomes Bobby the Brain Heenan into the interview set. He asks Heenan about the battle royale last week where he and Big John Studd were at front row ringside. Heenan says they paid their money for those seats and they wanted to see the so called eighth wonder of the world in action. And they weren’t impressed. In fact it reinforced their belief that Studd is the true giant of professional wrestling. And some day, some day very soon, they’ll prove it.]

Newcomer Randy Savage comes down to the ring with fanfare, a colorful robe, and to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance. Savage uses a blend of skill and speed to avoid Atlas and stay away from his power. He also uses a verified mean streak to firmly take control of the match when he sends him into the ringpost on the outside with a knee in the back. Once back in the ring Savage dishes out the punishment, putting Atlas on his back with an axe handle off the top, and then climbs back up to deliver a crushing elbow. That gets the win.

[Gene Okerlund welcomes in WWF Champion Hulk Hogan for a talk. He asks Hogan if he knows what he’s getting into tonight going on Piper’s Pit. Hogan says he knows Piper is up to no good but he has a surprise of his own and he can’t wait to see the look on Piper’s face.]

Wendi Richter is all business and though Kai does threaten with an ill-fated attempt to use the ropes for leverage on a pin attempt the champion battles back and puts her down for good with a running bulldog.

Winner: Wendi Richter by Pinfall (6:03) Grade: 52

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/The%20Fabulous%20Moolah%2085_zpsx10mdt90.jpg

[Following the match the Fabulous Moolah comes down to the ring, blasting Wendi Richter from behind as she waves to the fans. She whips the Women’s champion into the barricade then wraps a television camera cord around her neck trying to strangle her before officials force her away. Moolah is smiling wide as the boos rain down and Richter is attended to.]

The match doesn’t even really get a starting point as they both tear into each other as soon as the bell rings, falling through the ropes to the outside. They viciously battle around ringside, taking shot after shot at each other as the referee counts but neither man is interested in getting back in the ring and a 10 count later we have draw.

Draw by Double Countout Grade: 65

[The bell is ringing but Snuka and Schultz have no intentions of stopping their brawl. They fight all around ringside until Snuka gets the upper hand and Schultz decides he’s had enough. Snuka follows him up the aisle with referees and security in tow.]

Another newcomer to the WWF. Ricky Steamboat uses his martial arts skills from the opening bell and makes quick work of Goulet, with the finishing touch coming via a cross body block from the top rope.

Winner: Ricky Steamboat by Pinfall (6:41) Grade: 50

[Gene Okerlund welcomes a clearly agitated Moolah and when he tries to question her about her attack on Wendi Richter Moolah silences him with a would-be backhand. She says Richter has the gall to offer a match for the Women’s title but forcing Moolah to put her long and storied career on the line? Well she’ll take that stipulation and she’ll do it at the biggest show of all time, WrestleMania. Richter may be younger but she’ll find out what happens when you should be careful what you wish for.]

Putski shows Orndorff he’s not the one strong man in the WWF by withstanding his initial attacks but then we see a real mean streak come out in Mr. Wonderful as he lays into Putski, at one point risking disqualification by pushing past the referee to keep at him in the corner. It’s not long before we see the Piledriver and the 1-2-3.

Winner: Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff by Pinfall (9:38) Grade: 75

[Monsoon and Ventura announce that next week at Madison Square Garden we’ll see Greg the Hammer Valentine defend his Intercontinental championship against…..the eight wonder of the world, Andre the Giant!]

Grade: 71

[A replay is shown of the attack two weeks ago on Mr. T at the hands of Rowdy Roddy Piper and Paul Ornorff. Ventura tells the audience to get ready because next it’s Piper’s Pit!]

Grade: 68

Rowdy Roddy Piper comes out to a lot of boos, and runs down Philadelphia as the city of losers. He then introduces his guest, WWF Champion Hulk Hogan. The tension is thick in the ring as Piper says that being a good host he’ll welcome Hogan to Piper’s Pit. Tonight is a celebration and as they say, the more the merrier so he has a special guest. Fresh off a dominant victory he introduces Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff!

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Paul%20Orndorff%2085_zpsezlv8ac6.jpg

Orndorff comes down and shakes hands with Piper. Hogan is no dummy, he knows the odds are not in his favor. Piper then says he has to be honest. He didn’t expect Hogan would show up but it proves that not only is he a poor champion and a fraud but he might just be the dumbest guy on the planet. Before Piper can continue Hogan snatches the microphone and says he’s heard enough but he’ll admit Piper is right about one thing. The more the merrier is right on target and he says he has a guest of his own.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Mr.%20T%2085_zpshqvky80b.jpg

Mr. T comes down the aisle in a track suit and a white neck brace. Hogan helps him into the ring as Piper and Orndorff are nearly hysterical in laughing and taunting Mr. T. Piper and Mr. T meet in the middle of the ring as Piper berates him, poking him in the chest as T stares a hole through him. Piper turns to share a laugh with Orndorff and it’s then T rips the neckbrace off. Orndorff’s smile melts away as his eyes widen and he points Piper to turn around. When he does Piper’s smirk vanishes too.

Piper tries to show fake remorse before throwing a right hand which T blocks and responds with a punch of his own. Orndorff tries to intervene but Hogan cuts him off and the fight is on! It doesn’t take long for the heels to be drawn to opposite corners and are then irish whipped into each other, colliding in the middle of the ring and quickly exiting to the outside.

Hogan picks up the microphone and says if they want to finish this, how about next week at Madison Square Garden. Piper, incensed and embarrassed says you’re on!

Grade: 85

[As Piper and Orndorff head to the back with hate in their eyes Hogan and T stand tall In the ring, begging them to return. Monsoon and Ventura argue over what we’ve seen before Monsoon thanks the audience for watching and reminds them that next week the WWF will be in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden for another big show.]

Stars Beginning to Align for WrestleMania

http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/sites/default/files/styles/logo-thumbnail/public/022011/1984_wrestlemania.png

About two months away from what is being billed as the biggest professional wrestling event in history reports are beginning to surface about the celebrity power being lined up for WrestleMania.

It is already assumed that Cyndi Lauper and Mr. T. will be involved in some capacity but now we’re learning that Vince McMahon plans a full slate of celebrities from entertainment and sports to bring media attention to his gamble.

Already rumored are former World Champion Muhammad Ali, musical legend Liberace, and New York Yankee Manager Billy Martin.

Many believe if WrestleMania is a failure that we may see the end of the World Wrestling Federation.

Andre the Giant - By DQ or count out, don't see you giving the giant the belt.

Ken Patera - The Jr. Sammartino isn't picking up any wins.

Don Muraco - By this point already, JYD was pretty much solidly into JTTS mode.

Jimmy Snuka - Snuka will likely have a bigger role by Mania.

The North-South Connection - They will probably hold onto them until WM.

Ricky Steamboat - More build for the not-yet-Dragon.

No Contest in the main event - no way this one gets a full ending.

These two put on a clinic to open the show, working each other over back and forth. When Steamboat finally gains solid momentum he keeps it, using martial arts kicks to stun Robinson, then coming off the top in a flying cross body block for the win.

[Gene Okerlund welcomes the challengers for the WWF Tag Team Championship the U.S. Express along with their manager Captain Lou Albano. They say that they’ve been after the North-South Connection for a long time but here tonight in Madison Square Garden the champions’ time runs out. They’ve beaten them one on one the past couple weeks and tonight they take the gold!]

The challengers are on fire when the bell rings and they take it to the champions at every chance, sending them to regroup on the outside more than once. Murdoch settles down the pace and the champs work on Rotundo but when he makes the hot tag to Windham he is all business. Rotundo helps him clear out the ring but as the referee is putting Rotundo back in his corner, Adonis flies off the top rope with one of the championship belts he swiped from ringside and comes down on Windham with it. Murdoch makes a cover and the referee counts three before Rotundo notices and can break it up.

Winners: North-South Connection by Pinfall (10:06) Grade: 68

[The challengers are incensed at having been cheated and argue with the referee but there is nothing he can do about it. Adonis and Murdoch gather their title belts and beat a quick pace to the back. Windham and Rotundo can’t believe they were so close to their goal only to lose it like that.]

Patera dominates the match and even though Sammartino is a strong guy himself, it’s Patera’s occasional underhanded methods which keep control. He hits a powerslam on Samartino and goes for the cover but pulls him up intentionally at a two count saying it won’t be that easy. Patera plays to the crowd saying one more but when he bends down to pick up Sammartino for another slam, he’s pulled into a small package and the building erupts when the referee counts to three. Patera can’t believe it and is furious as Sammartino celebrates with the fans outside the ring.

Winner: David Sammartino by Pinfall (5:50) Grade: 42

Valentine is a proud champion and a good worker. He can do absolutely nothing to the giant in front of him and Andre controls the match, methodically punishing Valentine from one corner to another. With Valentine already swaying on his feet following a series of chops and punches in the corner Andre scoops him up and delivers a big body slam in the middle of the ring but the crowd begins to boo as a familiar face comes to ringside.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Big%20John%20Studd%201_zpsx6flo8pn.jpg

Studd, armed with a steel folding chair, whacks Andre in the leg with the chair causing the immediate disqualification.

Winner: Andre the Giant by Disqualification (Valentine Retains) (9:07)

Grade: 68

[big John Studd isn’t done and he whacks Andre’s left leg with the chair over and over, getting the Giant on the mat and continuing to attack over and over until half a dozen officials fill the ring. Meanwhile Valentine has skirted from the ring, happy to retain his title. Andre is having trouble getting up as Studd and Heenan make their way to the back through the jeers of the crowd.]

Grade: 76

[Monsoon and Ventura begin to recap what they’ve just seen when Heenan comes over beaming from ear to ear. He says this is the beginning of the end for the so called Eighth Wonder of the World and if he can get off his big rump Big John Studd, the true giant of professional wrestling will meet him any time any place! Heenan leaves with Monsoon’s complete disgust but Ventura notes he’s never seen the Giant hurt like this and it could bode very poorly for Andre against someone like Studd.]

To say these guys don’t like each other is an understatement. They go at it without no bolds barred and use everything they can get their hands on around ringside in this street fight. From using cables to choke the other man to ramming their head into the post they know no bounds for brutality. Finally though they’re back in the ring and Snuka floors Schultz with series of headbutts before climbing to the top and soaring down with a Superfly Splash for the win..

Winner: Superfly Jimmy Snuka by Pinfall (12:08) Grade: 65

[snuka looks exhausted as the referee raises his arm but suddenly there’s an interruption.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Buzz%20Sawyer_zpswpppuesz.jpghttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Consrvtve/1985/People/Matt%20Borne%2080s_zpsfd2cqq4p.jpg

Sawyer and Borne hit the ring and attack Snuka. Once Schultz clears the cobwebs he’s in on it too as the three of them viciously rip into the Superfly. He tries to fight back but is just overwhelmed and is left laying in the ring, bleeding slightly from his brow as these three dangerous men exit the ring together and leave ringside as a unit.]

Grade: 39

[Monsoon is horrified at what we’ve just seen and wonders aloud what this grouping means. Ventura says it’s simple what it means….trouble for anyone who gets in their way!]

These two spend the match battling back and forth with the JYD eventually getting the upper hand. It’s then Mr. Fuji proves his usefulness by climbing the steps and distracting the Dog. With his back turned, Muraco launches a running knee into his back, sending him into the corner, then quickly rolls him up—while holding onto the middle rope for leverage. The referee, not seeing the rope assist counts to three.

Winner: Don Muraco by Pinfall (9:49) Grade: 76

[We’re shown a replay of how Mr. Fuji causes enough of a distraction to allow Muraco to hit JYD from behind and roll him up with help of the middle rope.]

[Gene Okerlund welcomes World Champion Hulk Hogan and Mr. T into an interview. Hogan says that he knew Piper would try something sneaky like using Orton in their corner so they’ve come prepared.

Tito Santana enters the picture and tells them he’s got their back tonight and not to worry about Orton at all. Hogan says with Tito watching their backs they can concentrate on that no good Piper and and Mr. Less than Wonderful and what’re they gonna do when Hulkamania and the baddest man on the planet run wild on them?!

We have to wait several minutes for the matchup we all want as Orndorff and Hogan begin, then T gets the tag but Orndorff gets him back into the corner and gets the tag to Piper who comes in and together they work over T for awhile until he can make the tag to Hogan and now its Piper and Hogan in the ring together. They collide in battle, tearing into each other but Hogan comes out on top and begins to hammer Piper with big right hands. When Orndorff comes into the ring T meets him and now all four men are brawling. The referee is trying to get T back into his own corner when Orndorff, climbs to the top but Santana jumps onto the apron and shoves him off to the floor below. Orton immediately grabs his left arm writhing in pain. Meanwhile Piper gets to Orndorff for the tag and he takes control, eventually hitting a piledriver on Hogan who pops back up as Orndorff flexes for the crowd. Piper looks incredulous and when Orndorff turns around Hogan hits him several right hands, then whips him into the ropes and delivers a big boot before coming off with a huge legdrop. As he makes the cover, T comes into the ring almost begging Piper to enter but Piper isn’t stupid and instead drops down off the apron signaling he’s done with this fight.

Winners: Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. by Pinfall (14:49) Grade: 80

[Hogan, T, and Tito Santana celebrate in the ring as Piper, Orndorff, and Orton head to the back. But Piper stops, staring down Hogan with a look of disgust and perhaps honest disappointment before flipping him off and stomping out. This doesn’t end the celebration though as Monsoon and Ventura say they’ll see us next week back in Boston.]

Notable changes in the last month as the WWF continues to remold their roster include the release of Moondog Spot, Moondog Rex, Ivan Putski, Lord Alfred Hayes, and Ken Patera.

Some in the business were surprised by Patera but reportedly he had been causing problems backstage and he is in line for some serious legal trouble in a few months which WWF is trying to distance themselves from.

Rumors

*Look for Bobby Heenan to debut a new client or two in the next month or two.

*All four championships are scheduled to be on the line at WrestleMania

*A recognizable face from the NWA may be coming to WWF. This is unrelated to the Heenan rumor.

*The return of a familiar "face" is at hand.

[Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse the Body Ventura welcome us to the Boston Garden and begin hyping the matches tonight and as Gorilla says there is none bigger than the WWF title match with the champion Hulk Hogan taking on former Intercontinental Champion Don Muraco. Ventura reminds us that where Muraco goes Mr. Fuji isn't far behind. Thankfully Gorilla manages to avoid making references to anyone doing a 'Pearl Harbor job.']

Heenan then threatens Okerlund with Bundy who sneers down at the interviewer before Okerlund throws it back to the announcers.]

When you look in the dictionary for squash match there's a picture of this one. Nothing Jones does can phase the behemoth and after battering him with clubbing forearms, kicks, and bodyslams, Bundy whips him into the corner and charges full speed into him with a jumping splash. When Jones crumples to the ground Bundy makes the easy cover.

[Okerlund doesn't even get a chance to really speak before Savage takes over the interview saying that tonight he gets the Junkyard Dog but what the people of Boston are gonna see is a neutering, yea that's right. The Dog will be humbled below the majesty of the Macho Man, yeeea and when it's all said and done no man, no power, no force in the universe can overcome the big elbow....dig it?]

[Again we see a video of a pile of various types of snakes slithering over one another and the same voice begins speaking.]

"In a world of monsters the one you should be most wary of is the one who comes in human form. As it was written...and the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. I have my angels now and in three weeks we're going to make ourselves known to the one whom I have been watching. Trust me....said the snake."

Orton, sporting a protective cast on his left arm from when Santana shoved him off the top last week in New York, controls the early going but then Santana turns it on, reeling Orton with a series of dropkicks. Orton however gets the referee between the two of them and uses the cast upside Santana's head. He makes the cover and gets the three count though Santana almost kicks out.

[Okerlund is with the Hot Rod who looks very somber. When Okerlund asks him why Piper speaks calmly and quietly. He says that he's been in this business for a long long time and he's seen a lot of things. But love him or hate him the people know that when he is in the ring he's there giving his best. But the way things are run around here with the higher ups protecting their chosen few it makes him wonder why he's even bothering. He shakes his head and says maybe it's time for him to move on before walking away from Okerlund who looks both puzzled and concerned.]

Savage doesn't waste any time going after the JYD from behind before the bell rings. JYD however fights back, once sending Savage over the top to the outside. Action continues at ringside, allowing Savage to get the upper hand including a double axe handle from the top rope. He rolls JYD back into the ring, then climbs to the top and comes off with another double axe handle. He goes on to drop a series of knees, then climbs up one more time, coming off with the big elbow for the win.

Hogan says he knows all about what kind of a wrestler Muraco is but what makes him really dangerous is that no good Mr. Fuji in his corner so tonight he knows he's gotta keep eyes in the back of his head brother but with all the Hulkamaniacs in his corner and watching his back the only question is, whatch'a gonna do Muraco, when Hulkamania runs wild on you tonight in Boston?]

These two tear the house down and keep the audience in it with a series of close falls. Orndorff looks like he’s going to set up Steamboat for the piledriver but Steamboat reverses it and backdrops him. Steamboat then goes on offense, using his martial arts to wear Orndorff down, finally flooring him with a double chop. He climbs to the top and soars when Orndoff gets to his feet coming down with across body block and scores the win..

The younger Velvet uses her speed and higher energy attacks to stagger the veteran and keep her on the defense but when the opportunity presents itself, Moolah strikes, using a hair pull to get Velvet on the ground and from there she goes to work on her, focusing on her shoulder and finally puts her away with a shoulder breaker.

The match is back and forth with Muraco and Hogan swapping control but when Muraco is whipped into the corner and Hogan follows with a clothesline, Muraco pulls the referee into the middle and he’s laid out. Muraco goes on the attack as Hogan checks on the ref and has the Champ reeling. Muraco hooks Hogan’s arms and walks him to the ropes where Mr. Fuji has climbed onto the apron. He swings his cane at Hogan but the champ moves and he cracks Muraco, flooring him. Hogan sends Fuji off the apron with a big right hand, then bounds off the ropes and drops the leg on Muraco. The referee comes to, and makes the count.
