Once 97 hit, everything changed. I was in control and we had a lot of stars, I was creating s new kind of promotion not just hardcore. I was revolutionizing the business.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

At that time we were looking solid, we had a lot of young talent but we wanted to portray the niche product a bit too much and that hurt us in the long run

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Preston%20Holt_zpsowoktquc.jpg

We were probably the most talented promotion out of the four, we had a ton of talented guys who could work. Yes, we had the zany characters too but hey, we had talent and Phil knew that

In terms of profitability, we knew we had a good product. Everybody else was going for new things that were niche, new and fresh, which of course made a lot of sense, but we had the longevity product. The traditional wrestling product doesn't just become unprofitable in wrestling, unfortunately when you're in a war, the future is probably the last thing you should be thinking of.

In 1997 a war raged on the east coast of America, between the four companies, they were selling out arena's every show, something that HGC were not doing at the time. Filling arena with 2000 people doesn't seem very good, but when you were getting a sellout every single show, that's always a good sign. But like every war, there must be a winner and inevitably a loser also, and in this war, there were three. We now look back with fond memories, where many young stars had their beginnings and where hardcore wrestling truly began. Will there be anything like it ever again? Probably not, but the fans of these four companies never had so much choice in what they wanted to see. Many years later, companies have opened, changed and fallen but one thing remains the legacy of what wrestling lore refers to as....

When 1997 hit, we knew we had good things coming on the horizons. Well, at least I did. However, we were adamant in bringing in some new guys from XFW, The Peak brothers were pretty easy to steal away seems they had beef with Big Smack Scott, so they just fell into my hands, but Big Cat Brandon and Shawn Gonzalez were a lot different. I had to coax them away and Shawn Gonzalez actually decided to go to XFW instead of us before the war officially begun but I dragged him back in. We knew we had a good thing going when we were able to steal talent from our rivals. Whether these rivals were in the war or not was irrelevant, cause we knew that more talent was always a good thing.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eddie%20Peak_zpsgiswze5k.jpg

I had to get out of there, just for Doug's sake, if I stayed another moment in the locker room, I would have killed a man, and I didn't really want to go to jail. I was 20 at the time and Scott was just being a dick and taking matters into his own hands and then I bludgeoned him to sh!t, it had nothing to do with Big Dunc, in fact understood really well, and didn't like have a fight or whatever when we left and leading into 97, that was all I cared about, leaving XFW and luckily, Phil gave both me and Doug a way out. As well as some other guys from XFW.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

Phil came in with some good offers for some talented guys. I knew the Peak brothers were gone when I heard they had received an offer so the first show that year was all about getting the tag belts off them and I didn't want Stink and Grunt to get them back, so I went another way with it. So that months XFW was a complete throwaway. Luckily, it wasn't as bad as I had expected.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Andrew%20Barber_zpsxf2uuadz.jpg

Phil wanted to take Bryan Holmes off us but Holmes didn't want to leave us, RPW was also interested in one of our guys, Black Eagle was the guy I think. He also stayed with us, I was surprised by that. RPW had some solid workers and guys who really could have helped Black Eagle develop, course in the end he didn't need it. So, that month was something that I really thought was a turning point before the big news came out.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Preston%20Holt_zpsowoktquc.jpg

We heard at the start of 97 that a game changer was coming but I don't think we expected it to be what it was. I originally thought it was the boys that jumped over from XFW, even though all I heard was rumours about them, but as we all know now, it wasn't. To be honest we didn't expect it to change the wars the way it did and even then I thought we were still in a good place no matter what he could come up with. I suppose it shows, that Phil is a special breed in this business, and that was only the beginning. Phil was about to take the wrestling world by storm and nobody saw it coming, only Phil himself.

It was great when The Peaks left, less guys for me to worry about, but with Shawn Gonzalez was going too, I was going to get my chance, I was the only guy on the roster that like was even remotely good enough to be a star, like look at me, I have the look of a fricken star man. I didn't care about what was going on in DAVE at that time, but I heard rumours and whatever. I didn't give a sh!t, why would I? I was in XFW becoming a star.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Nemisis_zpsk6yy5xsd.jpg

Everybody on the East Coast was worried about the rumours, I don't care who were, what company you were at, you were worried about me. This is facts. The only guy who knew I would be a good thing was Phil and then suddenly some nobody from XFW was creating all kinds of shitty rumours about he was the big surprise that Phil promised. What an idiot! We just let it ride, got the story hot with the attention it was getting, he essentially helped us get more momentum, I bet Big Dunc was pissed about that.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

It made no sense to me. Scott came up to me and said that Phil offered him a contract but it fell through at the last moment. Phil had just signed The Peaks, they hated Scott, and that's why they left, why would Phil sign Scott when telling them that they could get away from him was his big selling point? This of course is bullsh!t but at the time, I didn't know what to believe, once it actually came to DAVE's first show, and nobody new showed up, Scott was like "he must be searching for my replacement". Man, I kinda wish he took him after he said that.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Preston%20Holt_zpsowoktquc.jpg

Phil always knew that the more he built up this new signing the more people would be intrigued, and the thing was he had 4 new guys come in, but none showed up. He was waiting to unleash them all, cause back then, especially in smaller promotions, news leaks didn't happen as much as they do nowadays. People were talking about the matches at XFW's first show of that year also. Dunc made a lot of strides with the roster but man, this newest show was bloody, to say the least.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

Thats what we were going for, bloody. HGC were always like you can't be putting your career on the line with them, that's your job here. I often chuckled at that, my job was to get over with promo's and hardcore wrestling and if that meant doing it for both XFW and HGC, then so be it. I was silly back then, I could have easily got over with my promo ability alone.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Destiny_zpswzjocm3a.jpg

At that time, everyone was willing to do anything to get over but Rahn and Butcher were always on another level. Butcher would scare me with the stuff he'd do, and the thing was Dunc at the time was step for step with him in terms of taking stupidly dangerous bumps for the fans. He just wanted people to see that this was extreme for a reason, and dear god that show, as short as it was, I've never been so scared for a mans life. Sometimes people go too far and Dunc at 36... All I'll say is, If I was Rampage, I would have declined to do it.

XFW No Remorse

Pennsylvania Park (Tri-State)

2000 people in attendance (SELLOUT!)

Thursday, week 1, January, 1997

Two thousand bloodthirsty fans cheer as Jerome Turner and Shane Sneer begin to introduce themselves. Turner runs down the card before Sneer comments on the main event saying that Duncan Kendall might as well stay at home as he won't be able to handle the hellish force of The Insane Heat. Turner talks up both competitors just before the first competitors music begins.

Although the match itself is brutal and bloody, the XFW crowd aren't really that into it, due to the complete lack of wrestling ability. The match was slow as Scott controlled the early minutes, and picked up anytime Boone was on offense. Boone is first to feel the wrath of the tubes as the shatter of it echoes around the arena as it connects with his skull, before Scott uses the broken tube to scratch across Boone's face. He instantly gains a crimson mask and a slight pop is heard from the fans. Although Boone's offense is rare, he has very innovative ways of using the weapons, such as running into Scott while he stands in the corner and placing two knees into Scott's chest, breaking a tube in the process. Other than that, Boone is on the receiving end of most the tubes, and an Ego Trip through a table of glass tubes gives Scott the win.

There is no stop to the carnage as the event moves from one match to the next with very little time for a rest. An improvement on the previous match, but not by that much. Doug and Eddie seem rather disinterested as they brawl with their opponents. The action itself isn't awful, but the match takes a surprising turn when Doug clattered Phunk with a stiff chair shot, but no blood. Colossus hits a nice clothesline on Eddie but a resurgent Doug goes over to make the save by diving off the apron, but misses crashing head first into the barricade, however, again no blood. Colossus then gets double teamed by the brothers and a Peak of the Valley team move onto a chair seems like it has done the trick, but again, no blood. Phunk then hits a stiff chair shot to the back of Eddie's head and he falls down. Doug turns around and blocks the shot, but Colossus hits a low blow on Doug. He then takes advantage and hits a Reverse Double Handed Chokeslam on Doug on which Doug's face lands right on the chair. The referee checks Doug and see's that Dug is busted wide open and ends the match.

Genghis Rahn begins to walk down to the ring as the ring crew attach the barbed wire to the ring ropes with a chair in his hand. As he is walking down the ramp, a fan grabs at his hand and Rahn reacts. The fan shouts all kind of obscenities at him before Rahn turning away, and then clocking the fan square on the head with his chair. The fan falls on the ground, with blood dripping from his forehead. The fans around him goad the fan as security escort him out of the building. The fans sing "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye".

Rahn: You think you're tough, huh? Cause the matter of fact is you are tough, everybody in this arena is as hard as nails, but when you start spitting sh!t at me, don't expect me to lay down lightly. This is XFW!!!! We don't take lightly to punks, now where's my opponent, I'm ready for a bloodbath.

The match is as bloody as the fans expect as both men go at it. The early goings are quite entertaining as both men brawl to a decent degree in the ring. The barbed wire first come into play when a drop toe hold by Butcher cause Rahn's face to come into contact with the wire, causing a slight scratch on Rahn cheek. Butcher seems in control but can't force Rahn's face into the wires again as Rahn counters with an elbow. Rahn then carefully gets out of the ring and gets a chair wrapped in barbed wire from under the ring. He attempts to hit Butcher but is countered and receives a nasty DDT onto the chair, which indeed rips open a cut on Rahn's forehead. The blood spurts out of Rahn's head as Butcher then bites the cut, the blood spraying all over his face. Butcher tries for a flapjack but is countered and Rahn lands on his feet, before lifting Butcher up in a suplex position and throwing him, stomach first onto the top rope. Butcher hangs there in pain before Rahn gets him set up for a suplex again, and phenomenally lifts Butcher up and hits a facebuster, that only garners a two. Butcher's mid section is covered in blood as Rahn again begins his assault, this time with the Barbed wire covered chair smashing Butchers torso with it. It's at this point where the previously white mat has now almost entirely covered in blood. The gruesome match ends when Rahn hits a Rahn to the Hills onto the barbed wire covered chair.

The match begins as bloody as the rest as Duncan runs down to the ring with a trash can full of weapons. The first weapon he uses the Singapore cane, but Heat merely flinches at the shots. However, a running shoulder block does knock down Heat. However, that doesn't last long as heat gets up and grabs the cane and smashes it over Duncan's head, causing him to bleed. Heat then proceeds to dominate the match, using various weapons to hurt Duncan but it all changes when Duncan hits a piledriver onto the trash can. The crowd applaud as Duncan shows heart to continue to fight, throwing punch after punch but misses a shoulder tackle and falls to the outside as he shoots out under the bottom rope. The fight continues on the outside as Heat brings a bag of tacks out and spreads them across the concrete floor. He picks up Duncan for a spinebuster but Duncan counter and suplexes Heat right onto the tacks. After that Duncan flings Heat into a bed of nails that breaks, followed by a light tube smash to the head, however, it only garners a two. Heat is now busted open and both men get up and begin to trade strikes. Duncan gets the upper hand for a brief moment but things change when Heat smashes a light tube over Duncan's head as he looked for another shoulder block. As Duncan drops slowly to the ground, Heat gets a barbed wire board and finishes the match with a Satan's Word onto the board.

Although he had just been through a torturous match, Duncan continues to fight with a fire unmatched by anybody else. Both men are throwing clubbing blows until Rampage hits a kick to Duncan's gut and then throws him off the stage onto four tables below. Hitting the tables with huge force, Duncan crashes through the tables as the structure crumbles underneath him. Rampage smiles as the medics attend to Duncan's battered body

That light tube match was nothing really. The match was bloody and that's all the XFW fans really needed, but when guys like me and Scott went out there, they weren't as interested. Plus, I was greener than grass, so I wasn't exactly the greatest guy to have out there with someone like Scott, but Duncan always thought I was very innovative with what I could do with any kind of hardcore match, I think that was enough for him to believe in me.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

I remember that show before DAVE's show like it was yesterday cause my main concern was getting the titles off the Peak brothers cause they were leaving, but in all fairness the first two matches make like no sense they were just matches, just to get the fans ready for the last two matches and that's what we did. Got the tag titles off the Peaks and then I was happy to go on with the show. That Genghis Rahn angle was also nerve wracking but it went well

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Phil%20Vibert_zpsab7lerbd.jpg

That Genghis Rahn segment, probably one of the best segments I had seen. You don't see wrestlers attacking people in the crowd, and it was exactly what they wanted, obviously he was a plant, but nobody cared, for some reason they wanted this guy to be pummelled and Rahn gave it to them. Dunc knew what they wanted too, they wanted to be apart of the show as much as any wrestler would be, and it had nothing to do with what Rahn actually said, which was delivered quite well, but the segment in general was playing to what the fans wanted and let's be honest, that's a great business decision.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

Scott's brother James was planted as the guy in the crowd. It was kinda like a semi try out in some way for him, but he didn't really do well. He screwed up the blade job and cut too deep on himself. Thing was I have heard rumours that he was being really d*ckish to guys in the crowd like only a few minutes before, which is probably why the fans surrounding him acted the way they did. They like went down on their hunkers to give him an earful, it was quite the sight. I'm not quite sure if James was being a d*ck to make sure the angle would get over or if he was just being himself, but either way, it helped me get over. Especially before my match with Butcher, which I thought it was a really good match. Butcher was willing to bump and as was I so I thought it worked well, definitely readied the crowd for the main event

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Destiny_zpswzjocm3a.jpg

I tried my best to make sure that I took most of the nasty bumps and I think it worked well. He only took two real bumps, and the piledriver was probably the safest and worst looking piledriver I have ever given. The match itself really built up to the spots they way it should have and the suplex onto the tacks was probably the worst bump of the night. Hey, concrete hurts man, luckily Dunc protected me really well, and I kinda landed on my side and legs more then my back, which I think helped me take the blow. I must say, Dunc is great to work with and even though he was only 36, I still felt I owed him the respect of taking the real bumps, I think he appreciated that. I don't think the exiting assault was necessary, but I wasn't the booker.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Rampage_zpsxigoxd71.jpg

It was Dunc's idea, and I was like whatever. I didn't care to be honest, it's not like I was going through the table's, not that I could anyway. I was way too old, Dunc was only 36 at the time. I remember after the bump he was saying it didn't hurt, again, I didn't care, the real thing that mattered was that the crowd did and it got me over as a heel and Dunc over as a face, but not only that, as a face, just willing to fight. We had many ideas for the next show, but decided to go with the safest option. May have not been the easiest, but Dunc said he could wrestle.

DAVE Back in Black

Pennsylvania Park (Tri-State)

2000 people in attendance (SELLOUT!)

Monday, week 2, January, 1997

Mitch Naess and Phil Vibert sit at the announce desk and introduce themselves, almost shouting to make sure they are heard over the two thousand rabid fans screaming around Pennsylvania Park. Vibert mentions that a revolution is coming to DAVE soon and tells the wrestling world to watch out. Mitch then comes in and says that he hears that there is something odd going on backstage.

Backstage we see Easy Emma being dragged to the ring by Eddie Chandler, violently dragging her by the arm. Emma is clearly in distress as Chandler begins to berate her.

Chandler: You think it's funny? Making me look like a fool.

Emma: I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Chandler: You were hitting on that guy!

Emma: I was just signing an autograph.

Chandler: I think he wanted more than that!

Emma: Eddie, I..

Chandler: Don't even try it. You are with me, the physically amazing, superior in every way, "The Fabulous One" Eddie Chandler. You got that?

Emma stares back at Eddie before nodding reluctantly. They then begin to walk down to the ring.

Although the early stages of this match was pretty even, Chandler really got into it as time went on. Projecting his anger on Michael Cook and he dominated the final seven minutes of the match, but Cook did get some good moves in, such as hitting a drop toe hold into the second turnbuckle and a sweet dropkick which forced Chandler to take a breather. However, Cook couldn't get anything more that and Chandler got the win with the Fabulous Stretch.

Henry Lee comes to the ring with a microphone in hand. As he enters the ring, he orders to stop the music and begins to speak.

Lee: Tonight I face somebody who, let's be honest, is not liked by the DAVE faithful. But we know the boy has talent and I'm going to show it too you tonight. I'M GONNA BEAT THAT PRETTY BOY SO BAD, BLOOD IS GOING TO BE RUSHING OUT OF EVERY HOLE ON HIS BODY. THEN HE'LL REALISE WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE HARDCORE.

First Blood Match

The match was surprisingly even throughout as both men got solid offense in. Lee dominated the early goings but left Caulfield time to recover when retrieving a chair and took a dropkick which knocked the chair into the head of Lee, but no blood. The match turns at this point and Caulfield actually hits a Danger Drop on Lee onto a chair, and although Lee is out, and a three count would be inevitable, no blood was present. Caulfield then sets up a table with Lee on it, but Lee gets out of the way. This is Caulfield's downfall as Lee gets a Singapore Cane and beats down on Caulfield. During the beatdown, the ref realises that few cane shots to Caulfield's head have busted him open and pulls Lee away from him, as Lee struggles to try and continue the attack.

Tyler: Well, I've never been so insulted in my entire life. I am Eric Tyler, "The Traditionalist" and Phil Vibert think's it'd be a good idea to put me in a weapons match. What kind of stupid idea is that? I am a professional wrestler. I don't need some stupid weapons to prove that I am the best in this company. And so that is the way it will happen. I don't need weapons to win the DAVE Extreme title, and tonight I'll prove it. Johnny, I know you're going to try to smash chairs over my head, Smash me through tables, break trash cans over my head, but that doesn't matter. In the end, I'll do it the traditional way, the right way, the only way and that is to plant you in the middle of the ring with a Tradition Lift and pin you 1... 2..... 3.

The match is an all-round slug fest as all participants are active at all times. The crowd perk up for Datsun as he jumps from the apron onto both Jay and Mikey. Black hits a suplex in the ring to Raul and follows that up with a DDT to Stephens However, Jay then comes in and takes control. Datsun and Mikey are brawling on the outside and Black receives a double dropkick from the Darkness Warriors, before the hit the Endless Night on Stephens for the win.

Vibert: Look at your future DAVE Extreme champion folks. He's on the way up, frankly he should be in tonight's championship match, but apparently you guys don't think that he's good enough. Well, I'm fair if anything and tonight JD Morgan will show you his technical prowess and show you why he deserves a shot at your so called hero, Johnny Martin.

The match begins with Morgan using a great strategy of grounding Walker. However, Walker does get to comeback with a springboard dropkick and a snap suplex. However, Morgan does turn the tables back again by grabbing Walker and throwing him into the second turnbuckle. After a back and forth of offence between both competitors a high risk move by Walker fails and Morgan locks in the Cross Atlantic Stretch for the win.

The match starts with Tyler taking control with his technical ring work. However, through sheer heart and determination, Martin comes back with clubbing blows to Tyler. After a DDT, Martin tries to bring in the first weapon into the match with a chair but Tyler counters him. He then berates Martin for trying to use weapons before continuing to stomp on him. Tyler grounds Martin but he powers out of a crossface and looks to hit the Twist on the Rocks but Tyler counters and lands behind Martin, he then gets the chair which is at his feet and clocks Martin across the back of the head. The crowd boo relentlessly as Tyler shouts into the crowd. After controlling the bout for quite some time, Tyler looks to finish it but Martin counters the Tradition lift and hits a German suplex. Johnny then hits the Twist on the Rocks and gets the win.

Although the match didn't utilise many weapons, the physicality of the match took it's toll on both men. Martin lies on the mat as the Referee hands the title to him. Tyler remains motionless as Martin eventually gets up and begins to celebrate. However, the celebration is interrupted as Tyler is back to his feet and begins to beat Martin down with the chair. The fans boo as the beating goes on for a few minutes until the lights go out.

The lights are back on as Vengeance stands behind Tyler in the ring, Tyler turns and receives a chokeslam from The Avenging Angel. Tyler bails from the rings and looks on in horror as Vengeance stands tall in the ring. Vengeance then turns his attention to Martin, who is still on the ground. Vengeace walks over but refuses to take advantage of the situation, but does state his intentions on wanting Martin's belt.

At that time, we weren't quite sure what we wanted to do with Eddie (Chandler). It was at that time when we weren't quite sure what we were doing with him mainly because he had commitments in Canada as well. So in that first month we were just resetting the whole Emma storyline, we were just setting that out for the next few months

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Easy%20Emma_zpswkbbf9zj.jpg

I wasn't quite into being a submissive character like I was with Eddie and Phil decided that in 1997, I'd start to defy him a bit more. Before that, Eddie would just mistreat me, but in 97 it was my actions that was making Eddie annoyed. Nothing like too serious, but at that time it made sense. It wasn't until maybe February until a storyline came of it.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Chris%20Caulfield_zpskdaig2c5.jpg

Back then I was considered a heel because I was just so bland. Like it makes no sense cause I was doing face-ish things but people just didn't like that whole innocent white meat babyface crap back then. Yet, that's what I wanted to be, that was my character so, Phil decided that he'd ask Henry to establish me in that way.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Henry%20Lee_zpssttmdrpz.jpg

Phil specifically told me to get Caulfield over as a face and they were his exact words, but me and Chris weren't quite sure how we'd do that. At that time, I was pretty poor in the ring, so he thought that putting me in promo's with him and angles and what not, would help him get better in terms of the mic. However, when we had that match, it kind of changed people's perception just because I beat the p*ss out of him with the cane and that's where the idea all started.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Elijah%20Harris_zps60md8twg.jpg

After Henry did his thing with Chris the crowd got a rest with Tyler's promo, we knew we could do some good things, problem was me and Mikey knew we were going to lose before the match was even booked. Reason for that was I was leaving for Hollyweird. Phil wasn't happy either and to be honest Mikey had a few years there where we didn't see eye to eye because of it. Mikey was actually released cause Phil had nothing for him, and I think Mikey knew that he would be gone if I left, and I did, and now I feel sh*tty about it. I tried to mull things over with Phil by saying I'd put over Jay and Raul strong but Phil told me that he didn't need me to get guys over. He may have been right, but he was pretty bitter about me leaving.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Phil%20Vibert_zpsab7lerbd.jpg

No matter what Elijah said, I wasn't bitter that he left for HGC. We didn't need him really, I was making the tag division a big part of the new DAVE and they weren't really going to be a big part of it. Sure they might have had a few runs with the titles, but I always considered The Darkness Warriors a more useful tag team. You add in The Peaks and The Animalz started around then too, so as far as I'm concerned, it turned out better that he left.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Monty%20Walker_zpsxlz4g8n8.jpg

Phil was all about just getting people over and JD was one of those guys that he wanted to get over and in the first show of that year, it was my job to do that. I don't think was too fond of me being in HGC as well as DAVE but I think he trusted me to put on a solid show and a good test for JD in the eyes of the fans. I think we did pretty well, we had no weapons but we put on a good showing, course that's nothing compared to what Tyler and Martin did, but we definitely put the crowd in the mood for it.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Preston%20Holt_zpsowoktquc.jpg

When I watched that match, I knew we were behind in the race for the East Coast. It was more than just a match, the story was ridiculously clear and the match itself told the story. I mean Martin and Tyler were fantastic competitors at the time and had immense talent but when I think about it, it's the psychology that they displayed was just next level. Tyler succumbing to using weapons, Martin's instinctive never say die comeback, it just fit together so well. We had guys like that as well, but unfortunately our stories didn't have many levels in terms of what was happening, it was just one main story and other than that nothing else was happening. It kinda stings looking back it, I was jealous at what Phil had put together, and now, that's the reason why I have so much respect for Phil now. We may have been enemies back then but you have to respect the man for what he did.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Andrew%20Barber_zpsxf2uuadz.jpg

The storyline Phil was creating at the start of 97 pretty much completely turned the whole of the East Coast on it's head. Tyler and Martin had a great match, then you add in Vengeance and you've got a very intriguing trio of workers. You also had the whole Vengeance and Martin dynamic, that would just be blown out of the water in the coming months and the big surprise would come and suddenly there was two huge headline grabbing storylines going on in DAVE.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Sean%20Martyn_zpsanfy5ynu.jpg

For me at the time, the Vengeance character was super hot at the time and I just wanted to make sure that I was portraying a character that made it look like I am at least in some way supernatural, and Phil agreed with that premise and the whole lights turning off was my calling card in a way. Course that would turn back on me in a few months. Phil wanted me to put in the fact that I'm was otherworldly, I don't take a side, I just punished people that I judged to be people who deserved it, and during that angle that was I was doing, judging Martin. Essentially, that was the plan anyway, but I knew bigger things were coming for me so, I was just waiting for that.

Dylan: I have been in RPW for quite some time, and I am sick of these cartton characters. this is professional wrestling and not a circus show. Yet, tonight i face another one of these stupid characters. Silver Shark is going to feel my wrath, my annoyance, my anger for years with these stupid characters and finally, I will air my grievances and tonight, the world will finally realise that I deserve so much better.</p><p> </p><p>

Sidle starts the match with the same intensity as he delivered his promo, but Shark quickly comes back with some fight of his own. Shark hits a lovely springboard headbutt which gives him the upper hand, however he can't capitalise on this dominance with a three count. Sidle's comeback is slow but he does well to swing the momentum in his favour with a dropkick. Although, the match continues to be a solid competition, Sidle eventually puts Shark away with a Sidle Walk Slam.</p><p> </p><p>

A match between two amazing competitors begins slowly, the first few minutes comprise of both men getting into the rhythm of the match. The early exchanges are mostly exchanging holds but as the match goes on the intensity increases. The men dictate the pace and the fans get really into the match thatnks to a Braun springboard inverted DDT. Not to be outdone, Hill hits a gorgeous shining wizard to a standing Braun, showing his amazing athleticism. The match builds and builds with each move and the fans are fully invested by the time Hill ends it with a Complete Package.</p><p> </p><p>

Tom at that time didn't want to be anywhere near RPW. He didn't like the zany characters because he considered himself a serious competitor. He definitely was and the whole traditionalist gimmick wasn't like all that great because Eric Tyler was running with it in DAVE so, Tom wasn't too happy in the company. However, he was getting paid so, I think that's really the only reason why he was in RPW</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Sammy%20Bach_zpsmqawgsej.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Back then, the big thing was me and Donnie becoming a tag team and going up against Double Dragon was a test for us as a team and we did okay. Nothing really happened in the match and the Dragons were way better. I suppose it was enough for us to become a tag team though, I suppose we were a preview of The Fly Boys but I was never going to go under the name Sammy B.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Jungle%20Jack_zps7es351ll.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

I both hate and loved RPW. I loved the performance aspect and the fact that you needed to have a character to get bye but I hated the emphasis on like zany off the wall characters, so my serious Wild man routine didn't really fit that much. Fortunately, Lance (Henderson) decided that I'd be a perfect rival for him and that's where that began. I was really happy to be able to show people what I could do but that match was one of my worst of my career.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Dylan%20Sidle_zpsyxq0htxc.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

I do think there was some actual truth in that promo, like I feel that the characters weren't what I wanted to be involved in. I was more of an out and out worker and I had spent most of the time facing those guys. really I had known my niche for quite some time and I wasn't going to be the main guy any time soon. It's the sad truth and I kinda wish I could say that I didn't know that, but I did. It was really disheartening. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Preston%20Holt_zpsowoktquc.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

When I watched the DAVE main event I thought we were screwed but only a few weeks later we put on a match that was to that exact quality and everything was bright again. Course I completely forgot Phils surprise. luckily this didn't come til March so I had a nice two month's before I realised DAVE were still the company to beat in this war.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Nemisis_zpsk6yy5xsd.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

When we watched that Hill v Braun match we knew that this wasn't just going to be a walk in the park. They had watched Hill and Flash light RPW up the previous year but I think this was at another level. They were level with our main event for that month so Phil knew it was time to unleash the beast, but he didn't. Refused to. I really annoyed me actually.</p>

McClean starts in the ring with Dukie and they put on a solid opening to the match. Dukie brawls with McClean and McClean holds his side of the battle. A hard hitting brawl of a match, four of PPPW's biggest wrestlers go head to head. Despite never tagging before tonight's encounter, Christian and Williams start the match stronger but Krusher and Cahill aren't just going to be thrown aside. They come back with nasty looking double shoulder tackle on Christian. Cahill and Krusher then take control and although Williams comes back later in the match but ultimately it's not enough, Krusher gets the win he hits a Comrade Comet for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

A really good match that shows some really good technical wrestling. Both men counter numerous moves in the early goings before they stand off, the crowd applaud as a sign of respect. We all know that Human Arsenal was one of those guys on the indy scene that could really work so when I got to work with him in early 97, it was a real privilege. Not that he was like this legendary figure or anything but he knew his way around the ring and I knew I had solid technical abilities too. If that was later in our careers we could have put on a clinic but at that time the match was solid for a PPPW opener.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Squeeky%20McClean_zpsvpy8hcts.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Punisher and I didn't even want to be tag champs, but Andrew (Barber) said we could have a decent run. That was over very quickly cause I wanted to be on a singles run and Punisher wanted to tag with Sanders so we didn't care about our matches and then Andrew knew he had to take the belts off us. We didn't care much, or at least I didn't. Punisher wanted to be in a tag team though, so I think he liked getting those titles on his resume. Whatever though, I was gonna be a singles star if anything, having two straight edge guys makes no sense and back then, PPPW had two. I guess that where the initial idea came from. I didn't like it much. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Bryan%20Holmes_zpsrrntpz4a.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Andrew Barber wanted to make the whole series with me and Chris (Morrisette) more of a character thing, while me and Chris preferred if we concentrated on the actual wrestling. Chris was more of a brawler at that time but he could go with the best of them and he really kept me on my toes in that match. When Barber insinuated that I should have a partner with my same philosophies I didn't really like it, and it was that show where he said why don't you guys team up. We didn't like it, but by maybe March or April, it had grown on me.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Lobster%20Warrior_alt_zpsqnjsmfss.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Bryan (Holmes) only cared about getting to Japan and like a month or two later he was on his way to PGHW. That pissed me off. Sure he was just on tour but we could have carried each other to the top of PPPW, with ease. Yet that all changed thanks to his commitments in Japan. Although, I'm not saying the matches were bad, in fact they were pretty good, but I would have preferred if it was just one on one.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Travis%20Century_zpsfpzohiik.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

People were pissed when they found out I was leaving. A lot of PPPW fans thought I was quite progressive in that product. They were probably right, but out of the guys who had an actual chance in the East Coast Wars the only one that wasn't touched was RPW in those early months and they were phasing out some guys anyway.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

When people were talking about Century leaving PPPW and we had already seen Elijah Black leave DAVE, rumours were being swirled around that XFW weren't producing the talent, or they were just a bunch of chair swinging sh!theads with no talent. Well, that BS. The real reason why we weren't getting touched was because they already had three of our biggest guys anyway in Stink, Grunt and Rahn. They already had them guys. They weren't going to raid us again, HGC had plans to do that in the early days.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Flapjack%20Flanagan_zpskemtnjea.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Andrew Barber was one of those guys that covered his ass to sh!t. He brought me in before Century even got the offer to go to HGC, he was keeping Whistler as happy as he possibly could to make sure he didn't go exclusive in HGC, so during those early days I was booked to put Whistler over hard. Whistler wasn't too pleased about that. He thought the story would be better if things were different so Andrew obliged. Andrew was licking some Whistler ass to make sure he stayed.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Andrew%20Barber_zpsxf2uuadz.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Flanagan was signed to give us that guy who had cred, and it just happened that Century left about a week or so after he came in. February I believe it was. So I guess he was happy to go into the main storyline when he came in, cause by god, I wanted him to work with Rick Sanders at first. That didn't happen though and I changed his generic monster gimmick, and just thought "Hey, Flanagan is a kinda Irish name, lets go with that" and it just went off from there. wasn't quite sure what was going to happen with it at that time but it turned out to be some pretty solid stuff.</p>

Once February hit, John Campbell was pushing real hard to appear on that months show, but I wasn't sure. He spent essentially the whole month trying to get into the show but I was having none of it and I made the right decision. When he did début, he made a real splash, if it had been in February, it may not have been as good.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

I knew that DAVE were going to release their new guys this month and they did so we need to try and do our best to replace them, but we didn't. Back then a lot of the roster were in my ear, telling me what they wanted to do and things like that but I didn't really put any of their ideas into practise until maybe March. A lot of the guys were not being used and that was a bit of a problem. They weren't happy.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

Grunt and Stink were guys who hadn't really been used early in the year and they were pissed. I think Dunc was just thinking that the chances of them actually wanting to do the style XFW were doing at that time because of HGC and he expected them to leave. Not quite sure why he pushed me then though. Dunc had a weird thought process like that. Especially when it came to deciding who he wanted to push.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Big%20Smack%20Scott_zpsqyscyswi.jpg

Dunc knew what was good for the company and me being the next big thing was obviously good for business. I was one of the best guys on that roster hands down, who could've been better then me. Nobody, and that's saying something. I suppose Phil has been kicking himself all these years with missing out on me. My replacement wasn't exactly his first choice lets just say that, John has one of the biggest egos in the history of the business. Even bigger then Sam Strong, yeah, like hella big. If we both had ended up in DAVE me and Nemesis could've drawn money. Like raining dollar bills.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Nemisis_zpsk6yy5xsd.jpg

Phil always knew I was going to be the big signing in the East Coast Wars, sure he signed some other guys but I think they were just for strengthening our roster, and I think that is something you always had to do. I'm pretty sure Scott started those rumours of Phil trying to hire him by himself cause Phil never went near that steaming pile of sh!t. He'd have stunk the place up. I mean we had some guys who weren't exactly great wrestlers on the roster at that time, and they'd tell you themselves but Scott is like a level below that. I would have never even got in the ring with that idiot. How XFW guys were able to walk out of the ring after being in a match with him still boggles my mind to this day?

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Madman%20Boone_zpseshycsqt.jpg

The match itself, nothing, about a day or two later, you can bet that I was hurting. Scott has a way of hurting you even when you're protecting him. Hey, I didn't like what he was doing to me but I wasn't the type of guy to return the favour, Dunc got all up in his face afterwards, think that's what made sure A. S. S was able to live through that match. Dunc was doing his best to be an enforcer, but we needed someone else, someone big and that's when the rumours started swirling around.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/JD%20Morgan_zpstjbrmri2.jpg

You're better off asking Dil about this but yeah, he did come up and tell me about the rumours. He didn't say if he was staying or going though so I told Phil almost instantly and he already knew about it, and he was as calm as ever. I nearly freaked out. Hey, The Wolverine was Phil's enforcer, you pissed Phil off then you were going in the ring with him and he'd teach you a lesson. Yet, here's rumours that both PPPW and XFW are looking to sign him. Like many people might want a guy like that out of the locker room but not me. You need guys like that, SWF had Enforcer Roberts, HGC had Dread, we had The Wolverine. Dil was more than just a simple enforcer who'd kick the sh!t out of you if you were misbehaving, he was also a real teacher, and that's why things happened the way they did and all in all, I would consider Dil a good friend, even now.

Yeah the rumours were true, I had two contracts come my way that month, but I wasn't leaving. Phil wanted me to kinda drop down the card and help the young guys and I was cool with that. Compared to some of the other guys on the roster, my character wasn't quite there. So Phil paired me with the new guy and things were looking pretty good for the tag division.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Danny%20Fonzarelli_alt1_zpsc5zvjwhk.jpg

Our tag division was solid when The Peaks and The Animalz came into it, but their was more to come after that as well. Phil always put the future of the company paired with some veterans in the tag division which was a really nice mix. Also, there wasn't much politics in the tag division compared to the singles side of things. I heard the stories, and they usually weren't pretty.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Aurthur%20Salvadore%20Simpson_zps8bqytgu5.jpg

The East Coast Wars were like the talk of the wrestling industry with HGC at that time and I remember reading an article about how Scott must have bribed Dunc to push him. I remember just chuckling, but honestly, there was definitely something awry with it. I found out in February that maybe Scott was in Dunc's ear. i was 45 at that time, putting my body on the line, and there was this kid who couldn't wrestle being pushed, man something was wrong there. Me and Dunc had a bit of an altercation and hey, I'm not a small guy but I was smaller then Dunc and I had to give in. I regret what happened but I was just pissed at the time.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Destiny_zpswzjocm3a.jpg

Dunc punched him I think, Aurther did start it in all fairness, he pushed Dunc and Dunc retaliated and Aurther heard that loud and clear, at least he felt it anyway. I soon realised that that shouldn't happen in a locker room, but looking back at it now, maybe Aurther needed to get that to keep him in line.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Big%20Smack%20Scott_zpsqyscyswi.jpg

I mean who did he think he was, pushing Dunc like that. That's just disrespectful. Dunc is a legend, you don't just be an egotistical a$$hole like that. What the booker says goes, you'll never see me challenge an elder. If I was Dunc and some young punk came up to me the way Aurther did back then, I would have done the exact same thing, cept he wouldn't have gotten up.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

Young Punk? Uh, isn't Aurther older than Dunc?

Pennsylvania Park (Tri-State)

The rabid DAVE fans are out in full as Penn Park is again sold out again. Mitch Naess and Phil Vibert are again at the announce desk and they hype up all the matches for the upcoming event.

The night starts with "The Traditionalist" walking down to the ring, mic in hand. The crowd boo relentlessly and although, Tyler didn't unseat Martin as champion he did give him one hell of a beating, using the equipment he often bashes.

Tyler: You're boos are rightly justified. I did indeed use weapons against Johnny Martin but why is the question? No, hardcore wrestling hasn't earned my respect. It still is what low-life's like you like to watch and untalented hacks use as a way to get bye so that not what it is. It is simple. there is one thing that tradition does so well. It survives, and that's what I had to do. I used the one thing that disgusts me to make sure I survived. Johnny was going to use it on me, so I returned the favour. Sure he won, but that's only because he brought weapons into the fray, and escalated the violence far above what it needed to be. Yet let me say this, Vengeance may have saved you last time Martin, but I will get you and you will succumb to my tradidion. Tonight, I deal with Vengeance, tomorrow, you better be ready to go to school.

Unsurprisingly, Caulfield dominates this one. Again Cook is outmatched and although Cook puts up more of a fight this time there isn't much doubt in who the victor will be. Caulfield seems to pleasure the opportunity to be facing Cook, unleashing a variety of basic but solidly performed wrestling moves. Caulfield ends the match with a Danger Drop for the three

As Caulfield celebrates, Henry Lee comes out to the ramp.

Lee: Chris, Chris, Chris. Did I not teach you anything last month? People just don't bye the pretty boy routine. You can do much better, and I know you can.

Caulfied: Is that so?

Lee: Yes, in fact it looks like I'm going to have to come down there and beat your ass so I can show you again.

Lee begins to run down to the ring, Singapore Cane in hand. Caulfield attacks him as he slides into the ring. Caulfield picks up the cane but misses his strike. Lee kicks Caulfield and regains the Cane, and strikes Caulfield once on the back. The snap is heard all around the arena as the cane connects with Caulfields back. Caulfield scampers from the ring as he sells his back

The crowd is shocked to see three former XFW wrestlers make their way to the ring. The Peak Brothers face The Wolverine and Big Cat Brandon, on which Vibert calls "The Animalz with a z". Doug is clearly the more insane of the two brothers as he takes on Wolverine head on, but comes up short. Eddie has more luck with Brandon as it is a much more even battle. Wolverine hits both brothers with unforgiving chair shots as Brandon sets up a table. However, the Peaks counter the following simultaneous powerbombs. The four big men continue to batter each other but eventually the match must end, and it does as Eddie and Doug pick Brandon up and slam him through a table with a team chokeslam.

Emma and Eddie walk backstage down a corrider, the two are talking.

Eddie: Any problems before you came in here?

Emma: Uh, no.

Eddie stops and turns to her.

Eddie: You don't sound too sure?

Emma: I'm sure.

Eddie raises his hand before somebody stops him from striking her.

Eddie: What the hell are you doing here Monty?

Monty: Well, I wanted to say good luck to you before our match. And lets say I'm glad I did.

He looks over at Emma and gives a cheeky wink. Eddie is fuming and turns to her as Emma is clearly blushing from the attention.

Eddie begins the match stronger, going for a more brawling approach then usual. Monty however, is up for it and they exchange heavy strikes early on. As the match goes on both men refer to their more common styles, Eddie grounds Monty for some time. Monty still gets in some springboard dropkicks though. At every moment he can, Monty looks at Emma, however she isn't interested, or at least that's what she wants us to think. Eddie eats a nasty dropkick and is clearly impressed by Monty's athleticism. However, Monty decides to end it with a Full Monty.

For the second month in a row, Vibert rises from his table as JD Morgan comes out to the ring.

Vibert: Here he is folks, the man who will be the future of this company. Despite the fact that he was DAVE's first ever champion, you still ridicule him. JD Morgan is the best technician in the world, don't the country. I want you to name out anybody. Anybody you like who could out-wrestle JD Morgan. Let me cut you short, because you can't. it's obvious JD is the man to go up against Johnny Martin next and I will..

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Shawn%20Gonzalez_zps68nupyn6.jpg

At this moment, Shawn Gonzalez walks through the curtain, Vibert is gobsmacked. Shawn doesn't say anything but Mitch mentions in commentary " I think "The Lone Wolf" has a problem with Vibert's claim". Shawn steps in the ring and the challenge has been answered.

The match is quite the technical match up. Who is the better technician is hard to say, but both men are doing their best to prove they are the best. Although, the match doesn't have the violence or blood that the fans in DAVE expect, they respect the clinic that these men are putting on. Gonzalez and Morgan really go toe to toe, and the mixing of the European technical style and American technical style is refreshing to watch. Morgan delivers some nasty European uppercuts to Gonzalez. Gonzalez not to be outdone slaps on a Boston crab or as he calls it the "Latino Crab" and to the shock of the crowd, JD Morgan eventually submits.

A match that was outshone by the match before it, Vengeance dominates the early proceedings. Tyler really really struggles with the power of Vengeance and before long, Vengeance looks like he's about to put Tyler away. yet for some reason he can't get it done. Tyler just continues to survive and does get some dangerous sporadic offense but Vengeance seems quite unstoppable. Out of nowhere the lights in the arena turn off. the annoncers talk about what could Vengeance be doing in the dark, as this is his usual calling card. To the surprise of everyone, when the light turns back on, Vengeance is laid on in the centre of the ring, bloodied up so much that the canvas surrounding him is also turning to a crimson colour. Tyler gets up and see's the scene, he takes his opportunity and hits the Tradition Lift and gets the win.

After the success of Back in Black, we weren't overly concerned with having a show of that quality again as much as we were just trying to create storylines for everybody too follow. We did that pretty well. it wasn't our best show and we definitely could have performed better, but I don't regret that show. Sure, I put Shawn and JD on before Tyler and Vengeance but come on, Vengeance and Tyler had that thing the month before and now, I needed to set more things up. This show was all about the set up.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Chris%20Caulfield_zpskdaig2c5.jpg

I really thought I could show off what I could do in this match, but apparently the fans sh!t on me for it. Hey, it wasn't all me, Cook would tell you himself that he wasn't all that great at that time. In the end, we did just enough and the promo afterwards was just me being completely scared of fluffing up my one line. It wasn't too bad though, the fight afterwards really made sense. I think we were building to what the eventual showdown would be like very well, sure the matches might not have been classics but the angle build up was quite good, as long as I was kept off the mic. Phil didn't want that though, he wanted me to improve and get better so I could perform by myself. Henry had a lot in my development in that.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/The%20Wolverine_zpsa1qfzvld.jpg

Development was my job. Going in there with three XFW alumni wasn't any different then going in with three DAVE guys. I will say the Peak bros were green though, and so was Brandon so I pretty much carried that match. I was impressed with Eddie's presence though, I remember telling him, and Doug too that they could be big stars in this industry yano, earn a lot of money. This was a good thing too, as yeah they're a tag team which in DAVE was like politics free. The only person who really had much pull in the tag division was me. I wasn't that type of guy.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eddie%20Chandler_zpsdt2rvgwi.jpg

I wish I had never done that angle. I hated it. If I was a few more years into my career I would have flat out refused but it happened. Luckily, it was only an insinuation but still, I didn't like it but Emma suggested it, and it did forward the story so, it wasn't terrible. Luckily we moved away from that fairly quickly, and it was more like a love triangle, which was good. I really enjoyed working with both Monty and Emma, did me a world of good as time went on.

That match with JD is one of my all time favourites. Way to get noticed yano. Throughout all of our matches, just the way it happened and how Phil built it up it was the coolest. I'm surprised I actually got the win, cause Phil was pushing JD mega strong towards the title, but I think Phil wasn't somebody to just undefeated streak somebody to the top, and JD would always just agree with Phil. That's one thin that I loved about JD. He never overall just said I am the greatest you must push me. It was more of the fact that, I respect you Phil, tell me what you want. Just did what was best for the company.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eric%20Tyler_alt_zpsnhqbciyx.jpg

No matter what anybody says, I put over Vengeance better than anybody else did that night. Vengeance was being booked mega strong and I went out and bumped around him like a freaking machine. Made him look like an absolute monster. I didn't care either, I was in a pretty big feud with Johnny so I was fine. Plus I could get over with my promo's, I was fine. In a way, I started that feud hotter then it needed to be but it certainly helped them in the long term.

Rampage: People ask why I do what I do. I never know how to reply to them. I do things and will deal with the consequences. All in all, my name is Rampage for a reason. That's what I do, stampede through the competition and sit atop the throne. Big Dunc is standing in my way and my job is to take him out. I tried to do it the easy way last month but it seems he has survived, and is able to compete. I didn't want it to be this way, but I guess, I'll have to get rid of him the hard way.

Although the match is reasonable in quality, it would have been much better if the fans cared more about the people in the match. Warrick constantly gets the crowds attention with nasty strikes with the light tubes. The match is quite bloody, with all competitors bleeding. Kurt Laramee sparks the crowd when he hits a suplex on John onto a line of tubes. Joe hits a nasty splash into the corner on Warrick as he held a tube. The match ends when John hits a Shoulder Breaker for the win.

Simpson starts the match quite aggressively. He doesn't use any weapons but does hit Scott with some nasty clubbing blows. He even puts Scott through a table, but can't get the pin. Scott comes back though, he hits an awkward suplex, but the following chair shot echos around the arena. He follows with a really nasty looking shoulder block to the face. This actually busts Simpson open, blood pouring out his nose. The favour is repaid soon enough as Simpson smashes a cane into the side of the face, causing blood to pour out of Scott's mouth. The match is quite violent but the crowd seem to enjoy it, then Scott ends it with an Ego Trip.

Rahn: You just don't realise what's coming, do you? It's anarchy, it'll make us bleed, sweat, have our mere being feel like our whole body is burning. Why? It must be like this. We must leave it in the ring, someday, sometime, you may live up to your prophesy but all in all, tonight you will experience what anarchy is. The match starts painfully slow, as Dunc tries to keep it at his pace. The commentators constantly talk about Dunc's huge fall last month and that he is still hurting from it, and Dunc shows it, constantly feeling his ribs or being slow to get up. Rampage seems happy to keep it at this pace, but Dunc quickens it soon after. A sidewalk slam takes it's toll on both competitors. Although there are no weapons, the fans are begging for blood and they get it, when Dunc flies into an exposed turnbuckle, this busts him open. He comes back though, a nasty combination of knee's rattle Rampage's skull. However, Rampage is able to come back and hit a Running Rampage and get the win.

Again the match is slow, building up the encounter between these two fighters. Frankie is quite sophisticated in the early going while Rahn is all out brawling. No weapons are used early on but Rahn introduces a ladder to teh fray, almost suplexing it onto Frankie. Rahn then brings in the barbed wire but Frankie avoids being whipped by it. Answering back with a wicked chair shot. The violence continues with both men getting colour. Rahn's is particularly nasty, as Frankie has whipped his whole body, ripped deeply into his skin. This however, is not enough for Frankie as Rahn is able to get the win after a Rahn to the Hills onto a chair

Honestly, I threw those teams out there to see what they could do, and it was okay. A lot better then our opening match was the previous months. I think it was starting to settle in that we were going to struggle over the next few months. We hadn't the star quality of the other promotions and PPPW kind of solved their problem by bringing in Flanagan. We had none of them. Sure Rahn was making big strides in HGC and The Nation of Filth was around but they weren't like amazing in ring guys. Rahn was a solid hand, as was Heat and I think I would also fit into that category but we needed somebody new that could work outside of the hardcore.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Aurthur%20Salvadore%20Simpson_zps8bqytgu5.jpg

Before the match even started I probably had a broken rib after Dunc punched me so, that's a great start. I think adrenaline helped stop that from affecting me too bad. By the end of the match both of us had gotten blood hardway. That shoulder block was nasty man, it didn't break or anything I think it was just the sheer impact that made it bleed. I started the stiff shots though, not that Scott wouldn't have started it anyway, cause he can't wrestle. In the end I got him back though, smashed his jaw with that cane. Ha. That's the story everybody says anyway, all he did was bite his tongue and it bled a tonne. Even to this day I think he says I broke his jaw, load of crap.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Big%20Smack%20Scott_zpsqyscyswi.jpg

He broke my jaw, badly. Doctor was like, how the hell did you manage to smash your jaw like this. Went back about two weeks later, he was astonished to see that my jaw was fully healed. I felt like Wolverine with healing factor. I guess it just shows I'm pretty super. Anyway, this is the reason why wrestling is choreographed, so we avoid these injuries. we worked that match quite stiff though and hey, it made some good money. Both our merch sales were up that month after that.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Rampage_zpsxigoxd71.jpg

No weapons for that match we thought that made some sense. Dunc had a nasty bump the previous month so in a way it was selling that bump. Truly, Dunc had problems backstage that event anyway, so I think he was just worried about that. Like f*ck that. I was pissed. We could have put on a really good match but no. He phoned it in. Yet it was still in contention for best match of the night. Think that proves how screwed XFW was at the time.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Honest%20Frank_zpsuvswaqte.jpg

I think me and Rahn were a little disappointed in what we achieved in that match and overall, we could have done better. Working with Rahn was always great but I feel that first encounter in 97 could have and should have been much better. It's sad to say but we even thought that back then and despite Rahn working for HGC he always gave his all in XFW as well. i think that's why Dunc kept me away from the title scene for awhile, I needed some time to get more over and that was something that I did with Aurthur over the next few months.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

Both me and Frankie could wrestle, I don't really know what happened. We clicked just fine, had okay chemistry got on well backstage, I just know why we didn't put on something better. I mean early 97 was a problem for us, no doubt and me and Frankie were pissed that we didn't bring the house down. I had a another chance next month for when I faced Heat but that didn't turn out the way we wanted either.

RPW Path to Greatness

Harvey and Rock start off the broadcast by hyping the main event. Stating Steve Flash is indeed ere and ready to compete, his opponent, Brent Hill is also present and raring to go.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Brent%20Hill_zpsfjtq1kbb.jpg

Hill: What happens when a machine meets a machine? Chaos? No. Anarchy? No. It's a clinic. A clinic in wrestling is what happens and tonight you will get to see it all over again. Every machine has a nemesis, mine is a fellow machine in Steve Flash. Over the last year, you've beaten me, I've beaten you, people still argue about who the best is. Tonight we write a new chapter, not the final chapter, I'm sure of that, but the one that brings the other a step closer to greatness. There's a reason this event is called a Path to Greatness, cause that is what I'm on. I'm a machine, Flash. With a set goal, and I won't stop til I achieve it.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Alex%20Braun_alt_zpszzqwrpdv.jpg

Braun comes into the picture, all business as usual.

Braun: Don't think this is personal, Brent. It most certainly isn't. You see, wrestling is a business and that's how I approach it. The pinnacle of a business is simply being at the pinnacle and that is what we attempt to do. I want to be there, you want to be there and Steve Flash is already there. It's our job to knock him of his throne, to keep the business going. We are as much rivals as anybody else Brent and don't you forget it.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Steve%20Flash_zps37lnutyt.jpg

As Braun and Hill stand face to face, the champ walks in with the belt on his shoulder.

Flash: In each others faces again, are we?

Braun: Did you expect any different?

Hill: We have our ambitions.

Flash: Yes, and I like it. Three men vying to be the best. It's what we were created for.

Braun: It's what the business is created for, and the business only. I'll say it before, I'll say it again. It's not personal, just all business.

Braun leaves as the two men who are in tonight's main event square up.

Hill: Don't worry about him, you have me to worry about tonight?

Flash: You, him, makes no difference to me. I relish in a challenge. Either way, you'll get a Flash Bang and lie there helplessly as the ref counts to three.

The pace is relentless, and Gilmore hits a nasty inziguri but Shark comes back from it. Although Shark is a zany character, he seems to be all business while in the ring, much like Gilmore. The match begins and Whippy and Donnie attack Dragon is able to fight out of it. Dragon controls the match for the first few minutes but a crossbody from the outside by Donnie puts the match in the balance again. Whippy hits a nice DDT on Donnie but Dragon hits an inverted DDT on Whippy. The first chance anyone has to get the logo is Dragon but Donnie is able to stop him. Although Jack puts up a great fight the numbers game so too much and as Jack begins to rally, Lance slips a chair to Ezra, the ref blocks him and attempts to take the chair off Ezra, during the commotion Lance low blows Jack.
