The Story of the East Coast Wars (CV97)

Despite his character, Shark was a solid competitor and it was nice to face somebody of that magnitude. Shark and I got on well behind the scenes too so I had no problem putting him over. RPW had their top guys back then and everybody else was just an afterthought. It's a bit sad all in all but that's the way it felt. Really only Dylan (Sidle) and Jack had any bit of a push outside the Main event. Me? I was your regular midcard jobber, probably because I wanted out. I was looking at going to Japan and I got the chance to do that and so did some other guys from RPW, Shark included. I think that's where I saw myself having a career.

At that point, Japan was the goal for a lot of guys in RPW. Me, Gilmore, Shark, I'm pretty sure Canadian Dragon had ambitions of going and even Jack had the idea of getting a job in Japan. That's a good portion of RPW's midcard wanting to go to the big time in Japan. Shark and Gilmore got a tour early that year with Burning Hammer and Hinite Dojo respectively, I think it was in March. In the end, I wanted to get there and if RPW was my way, it sounded like a good plan.

Steven, or UK Dragon, was the only one who actually took the match seriously. Ladder matches are weird, especially with three people and even more so in RPW. Alex (Braun) had this idea to bring a bit of CZCW to RPW and boom, ladder match. It wasn't like hugely successful but it worked okay. Nathan, or Whippy as you guys would know him, thought it didn't fit. Honestly, I agreed but Steve thought it'd be a nice challenge and he was happy to put me over, if you can say that you "put someone over" in a ladder match. All in all it was just a throwaway match for the big ladder match that was coming up in a few months.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Lance%20Henderson_zpsfjjfsvwm.jpg

Jack was fun to work with and he had a character that counter-acted mine. That's why I wanted to work with him. He had dreams of Japan and I had dreams of the RPW belt so we helped each other to get what we wanted. It was a long road really but I think Jack enjoyed the story as much as I did. Ezra was all cool about putting Jack over and all that. So everything worked very, very well. I think we have Preston to thank for that.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Alex%20Braun_alt_zpszzqwrpdv.jpg

I had legitimate pull with Preston at that time so I came up with some cool ideas and I was dying to work a match with Dylan to see how we'd do. That match pretty much completely shattered our chances of a program soon, but I had plans to do it down the line. I had Flash and Hill now though and that was great, we arguably matched Tyler and Martin that first month and then Flash and Hill equaled that again. RPW always had great main events, no matter what the rest of the show was like.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/RPW/Steve%20Flash_zps37lnutyt.jpg

All in all things were looking great in RPW for me but they were looking just as good, maybe even better in Canada. Both CGC and NOTBPW were pushing me to the top and yeah, I was on for the ride. Biggest problem? What was I gonna do when/if once of them said "Hey, you want guaranteed big money?" What was I gonna do then? I loved working in RPW, it essentially was my home but I wouldn't reject a written contract. At that time, I was in a program with Hill and Braun and the only thing I wanted was a one on one with Braun. I had done the clinics with Hill, they were great, we lit up 96, but I needed Braun. I wanted to see what I could achieve. At least before the Canadians came calling with exclusive contracts.

Rockwell: Tonight, I watch Bryan Holmes from the sidelines. I know he isn't happy about last month, but I'm no idiot. I'mm watching you like a hawk Holmes, I am always ready to fight. Tonight is no different, Rick Sanders is my opponent tonight, and he will again feel the wrath, much like you did Holmes. You also better be ready, this ain't over.

The match begins at a really slow pace as Cattley grounds Paez, however, this doesn't last long as Paez hits back with some flying forearms. Eagle comes in and shows his athleticism with a springboard bicycle kick that pops the crowd. The match then becomes a much quicker affair which actually peaks with a Harvey suicide dive. However, Paez' experience shines through amongst the rookies. Paez takes out Cattley on the apron, before hitting a superkick and tagging in Black Eagle. Eagle then hits a New Jersey Turnpike and pins Harvey to get the three.

Floyd: Beside me stands the man who will bring America to his knees, Krusher Karloff is a beast, a monster, a destroyer who will destroy this country. Leon Williams, you are everything that people in this country stand for, it sickens us. We are sick of you Americans pushing your patriotism onto everybody. Krusher will do what his name implies. Christian begins the match at a must faster pace, brawling with Holmes. Although not a brawler, Holmes survives and turns the tables, grounding the enigmatic brawler. Although, he takes control, its not for long and both men exchange blows throughout the match, attributing to a very even match.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Man%20Mountain%20Cahill_zpsevcsgjyf.jpg

As Christian goes in for the kill, Man Mountain Cahill appears from the crowd and jumps the guardrail. Christian looks out at him fixated on the monstrous man walking outside the ring, however, Cahill does not interfere and starts to walk back up the ramp. Christian turns around straight into a Final Impact.

After the match, Chris Rockwell runs down to the ring however, Holmes is ready, and the brawling begins. Rockwell begins the onslaught however, it doesn't end successfully, as Holmes is eventually able to hit a Final Impact. Holmes stands over Rockwell's lifeless body, and stands victorious.

The match begins exactly the way people expect it too, a hard hitting brawl. Williams hits some scary looking strikes but Krusher comes back with some scary strikes of his own. The brawl eventually spills to the outside and unbeknownst to the ref, Goldworthy hits a low blow on Leon. Krusher then takes control and slows the match down considerably. Krusher looks to end it, but Williams counters it and hits a Patriot Slam and gets the win.

Once the match ended the onslaught begins from Krusher and it aint long before Cahill comes and joins in. Williams does his best to counter-act the numbers game, however, he cannot do enough as Krusher and Cahill dominate.

The match begins as a technical showdown, however, Sanders is much more comfortable with that side of the game. However, Rockwell does very well and turns it around to a brawling match, which Sanders is far from comfortable with. However, the match twists and turns many times, however, in the end Rockwell gets the win with a Shooting Star.

PPPW Tri-State Championship Title

The match begins slow with Flanagan and Whistler sizing each other up. After some early exchanges, the match quickens to an intense brawl. Flanagan takes control very easily, however, Whistler storms back with a clothesline and a shoulder block. The match is quite fast paced for these competitors and the brawling spills all around the ring. Flanagan puts an almighty beatdown on Whistler, but the patriot never gives us and gets the win, with a Rebel Yell.

Flanagan: They are coming America. Or should I say, they have always been here. The Irish are ready to take this city over and run it the way it needs to be. Whistler, you are the first victim. However, you will not be the last. Once the Tri-State championship is in my hands, my rule will begin. You think this is over just because I lost, it's not over. We lost the battle, but the war has just begun.

That show for me was really important. I was surrounded by talent but backstage and in the ring, like it was super weird to actually be wrestling tat night. Back then, I didn't wrestle much, but that night I was with Cattley, Paez, and Herring. Just guys who were all super talented. Not exactly world beaters or anything, but solid workers to learn from. Paez was like a veteren compared to the rest of us. Yeah sure he was only 24, but he was a six year pro and that helped us. Overall, I think all of us wanted to become single stars, Cattley knew this and he pushed forward for that to happen. The tag division in PPPW was kinda scattered for some time.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Jesse%20Christian_zpsiajzivdu.jpg

Match of the night contender, that felt weird. Well, for me anyway. Holmes was an amazing competitor and he told me before the match that he wanted to brawl. He could essentially do everything pretty well and that helped me do what I did best. Cahill was always happy to come through the crowd, and the image of Cahill towering over the crowd looked great. That is one thing that Andrew did well, he always played up for the cameras aswell, yano, for the DVD's.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Bryan%20Holmes_zpsrrntpz4a.jpg

Me and Christian put a solid match on that night and then we essentially forwarded two storylines that night. Andrew was all about doing that and me and Chris were all about having anything to progress out program. Although, he wasn't too happy about me going to Japan though but hey. I enjoyed our program for what it was.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Lobster%20Warrior_alt_zpsqnjsmfss.jpg

At that time when me and Bryan were doing our program we had some.... problems, to say the least. He knows this and pretty much everyone in the locker room knew it at that time too. We didn't hate each other or anything along those lines but we didn't see eye to ye on a lot of things. And for quite some time I refused to put Bryan over because of it. This wasn't me being political, this was me being pissed at Bryan. I eventually learned to accept it. At that time, there was a lot of talk of people being pissed at things.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Whistler_zpshpgurxae.jpg

I was pissed that night. For many reasons. Mainly because of Andrew and his insistence that I go over that night. I didn't want that to happen. I though that Flanagan should win, but Flanagan didn't agree with it either. It was weird like that but they convinced me and Flanagan was a solid competitor at the time so, yeah, we knew we could have a good match. Flanagan was smart though man, don't let his SWF run fool you.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Flapjack%20Flanagan_zpskemtnjea.jpg

Whistler was pissed but lets be honest. I just came in, I needed to chase him for a few months before it'd make sense for me to go over him. I knew this and I think Whistler wanted to get the title off him just so he could look at HGC a little more seriously, while also not screwing PPPW out of their champion, so he was pushing and pushing to get the title of him, this is just a theory though.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/Sam%20Strong_zpsw0cfgqda.jpg

At that time, I wanted to bring in Whistler full time. Why would I want him going back to those stupid East Coast Wars? it's not like he was earning that much money, we were paying him better, he was featured better and was an all round better off in HGC. Yet he insisted to stay there, I don't know why, he just did.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/PPPW/Whistler_zpshpgurxae.jpg

That's not the full story, far from it.

He wanted me to can it, no joke. Sam wanted me to go exclusive with HGC, but I didn't want to do that quite yet. I was the PPPW champion and I didn't want to leave them while I was champ so, I said that to Sam. He was all like "sure, I understand. Hey, why don't you bring the belt onto next weeks show and we can get PPPW some good publicity". I was thrilled, completely agreed with it. So, the plan was I get publicity for PPPW on HGC tv, lose the title at the next PPPW event and at the end of February, I'd sign exclusive with HGC, so everythigng was looking good. Until I actually brought the title and Sam told me his plan about dropping the belt into the dump, I was outraged, I refused to do it and drove home. I believe it was the 3rd week in February, Sam was sneaky like that, sure he was a big star, but burying a regional company that wasn't even a threat, now that was a whole new level of a$$hole.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Monty%20Walker_zpsxlz4g8n8.jpg

In those days, Sam was trying to get all the publicity off the East Coast Wars and on HGC, Sam was never known to like to share the spotlight. And at some point or another he had a worker in each one of the East Coast Promotions, me in DAVE, The Nation of Filth in XFW and Whistler of course was in PPPW. He was always talking about how all I needed to do in DAVE was collect my paycheck as they were garbage, loads of crap really. Luckily enough, I wasn't near the top title in DAVE but I told Phil anyway to keep me away from any belts for awhile. At least until this blew over.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

There was a reason the Nation of Filth weren't being used in XFW. I overheard them talking about it, I believe it was in January. Going exclusive in HGC I mean. In my book, that means one of three things 1) I release you, 2) I bury you or 3) I do both. This isn't me being a d!ck, this is me being a business man. I wasn't going to push you to help another promotion, unless I knew you could help the promotion. The Nation of Filth couldn't, Genghis Rahn could. That was my opinion anyway, and with the Whistler thing coming out now I think I'm glad I didn't keep them around for long.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/Sam%20Strong_zpsw0cfgqda.jpg

Wrestling is a business, that's what happens in business. Survival of the fittest and I was making sure HGC would survive. I don't care if you weren't an immediate threat, whether you were SWF or CZCW, DAVE or XFW, at the end of the day you were still competiton.

So when we got to March, the East Coast Wars were in full swing, and we knew we were battling for supremacy. RPW were the only company that had challenged us early on, but XFW and PPPW weren't exactly just going to be thrown to the side, they'd come back but this is where the whole war had come to. We had some ideas in mind and essentially that's all we wanted to do, fight our rivals in the war. HGC was not on our agenda, despite everything Sam was doing. RPW, XFW and PPPW were the only companies in my sight. And in March, we started to pull ahead.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

To say we were behind the other promotions was an understatement, we were way behind the leaders in RPW and DAVE. They were miles ahead and sure we had our fans but we weren't able to equal their best matches. We needed to get some guys who could help us get to the next level and over the next few months, that was our idea.

We were the only one's who could challenge DAVE at the time, but let me be clear, we needed more guys, we knew that more than anybody else. Hill, Flash and Braun were carrying us, we didn't know who else on the roster was going to be able to put on those kind of matches, however, we knew we needed to make new stars as well as bring in new guys. We had a few months of a slump, I will admit. However, we knew we'd be back.

Flanagan was a great signing for us. He and Whistler were two of our best guys, and we were building more. That's all we wanted, to build up stars and go from there and at that time we thought the longer this war went on, the better for us. There was alot of talented guys on our roster and unless they were stolen from us we were in a good position for the future. We always thought that if this went on for a long time we would come out on top, but how long was this going to last, and could we keep up with DAVE and RPW at this present time. We didn't know but March definitely helped us realise how far behind we truly were.

DAVE March into Battle

Pennsylvania Park (Tri-State)

2000 people in attendance (SELLOUT!)

Monday, week 2, March, 1997

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Mitch%20Naess_alt2_zpslmrmf9tf.jpg

Penn Park once again is filled to the brim with rabid DAVE fans, sold out again. Surprisingly enough, Mitch Naess is alone at the announce table as Phil Vibert is nowhere to be seen, he briefly runs down the card before the first segment begins.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/DAVEBanner_zpsiwcldl4i.png

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eric%20Tyler_alt_zpsnhqbciyx.jpg

The night starts with with some tradition, as for the second month in a row, "The Traditionalist" Eric Tyler walks down to the ring, mic in hand. The crowd are remarkably husked, as only a few boos bellow from the crowd, waiting for Tyler to speak.

Tyler: What is tradition? It is perfection, something I achieved last month. Sure, Vengeance was a tough opponent, but I take my opportunities. Everybody in this arena hushes when I enter, you may not like me, but you have to respect me. That is what I instill in my students, and that's whats coming up for Johnny Martin. He is but a student. Foolishly enough, he's given me the opportunity to face him in a match of my choosing. I appreciate your fight, Johnny, I really do. Yet, everybody has a lesson to learn, and I've signed you up for a lesson in tradition. Don't worry, I'll be your teacher and I will guide you to success. So, the announcment. The match I choose is...

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Phil%20Vibert_zpsab7lerbd.jpg

Tyler can't finish his sentence as Phil Vibert comes down the ring sans JD Morgan. He enters the ring and grabs a mic.

Vibert: Look Tyler, I'm not here to stop you're lesson, but I am here to stop you creating a match for yourself. You don't have the authority. Either way, JD Morgan is the number one contender, you'll have to wait your turn, Eric.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Shawn%20Gonzalez_zps68nupyn6.jpg

Phil has barely anytime to finish when Shawn Gonzalez begins to make his way down to the ring.

Gonzalez: JD Morgan, number one contender. I don't think so. I beat him last month, fair and square, if he's the number one contender, then I should have earned the right to face the champ last month when I beat him.

Tyler: Well, at least somebody speaks some sense. Yet, it is still misguided. Everybody in that locker room knows that Eric Tyler is the number one contender. I beat Vengeance one on one last month. You think people just forget that. I have defeated the biggest threat in DAVE and you still think that both you guys can jump the queue, not on my watch. This is tradition, you earn your spot, like I have. I don't think you realise...

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Johnny%20Martin_zpsb3wnjytz.jpg

Tyler is interrupted, this time by the DAVE Extreme champion, Johnny Martin. Carrying the title on his shoulder, he enters the ring and gets a mic.

Martin: Come one, come all. I wouldn't be the champion if I didn't take on all comers and that's what I'll do. I'll take all of you on at the same time, it doesn't matter to me.

Phil: No, JD is the only contender you have.

Martin: Didn't he lose last month?

Shawn: Yeah, to me. I'm challenge you..

Tyler: I don't think so. You challenged me last month Johnny, stick to your promise.

Martin: Oh, I plan too.

Phil: Look, I've got a simple solution. Tag match. JD and Tyler v Gonzalez and Martin. Whoever gets the pin gets the number one contender spot, if Martin pins, then he picks his own opponent, agreed?

All of the wrestlers seems to agree, except Shawn Gonzalez who seems annoyed by the announcement.

Vin is dominant from the opening bell. He doesn't do much in all honestly, just sets a perfect pace for him the match and uses his brawling ability to keep Coles busy. Coles has some decent counters with a dropkick and a flying forearm, but his attacks are brief as Vin is easily in control. Vin ends the slaughter after he hits the V for Victory.

A hard hitting match between two very solid teams. Although no weapons are present, the risks both teams make pop the crowd on a few occasions. A running senton off the apron by Doug make the crowd stand on their feet. While a reckless double crash and burn from the top rope leave Eddie and Raul down outside the ring. The action really picks up when Eddie and Jay are in the ring, as the two men brawl brutally. However, it is Doug who is the one who eats the pin as Jay hits the Fade to Black and the Warriors retain their titles.

Monty Walker leans up against a wall as Emma Chase, in a skimpy outfit, stands at a table in the background. Monty smirks as a guy apart of the backstage crew walks past.

Monty: Hey you can you do me a favour.

Monty whispers in the backstage guys ear and gives him a piece of paper and a pen. The man walks over to Emma Chase and asks her for her autograph and she obliges. She uses the table beside her and she bends over to write on it. However, as she does so, her skimpy mini skirt struggles to keep her covered and a sexy pink thong is in clear view for all to see. Fans wolf whistle and cheer as Monty smiles cheekily.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eddie%20Chandler_zpsdt2rvgwi.jpg

Eddie Chandler then comes onto the screen and gets right up in Monty's face.

Eddie: What the hell are you doing around Emma?

Monty: Oh don't worry, Eddie boy, just admiring the view.

Monty continues to smile as he takes one last look at Emma's behind before he walks away. Emma gives the paper back to the crew guy and turns and walks over to Eddie, who is fuming. Emma looks confused, completely oblivious to what just happened.

It's no surprise that Eddie starts this match extremely aggressively, unfortunately, that plays right into Lee's hands as he is the far better brawler. Eddie soon realises this an switches to a style hes more comfortable with. Both men get in some solid offense and Henry even hits a solid flying clothesline.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Chris%20Caulfield_zpskdaig2c5.jpg

However, before he can take advantage, Chris Caulfield rushes in and begins to smash Lee with vicious Singapore Cane shots. Lee's back is bright red from the shots as Caulfield goes back outside the ring and lets Eddie finish Lee off with a Fabulous Stretch

Oh, and the loser receives 10 unprotected, unquestioned Cane shots to the back from the winner. We'll end this the right way, the DAVE way.

The match is an out and out brawl between two very good brawlers. Wolverine's strength advantage does help him but not to the extent that it should as the determined Datsun comes back time and time again, even when he is in dire situations. In the end, it's not enough, as Wolverine hits the The Maul to end the match.

Morgan and Martin start in the ring and Martin really shows why he is the champion, coming out of the blocks with some real intent. Martin then tags in Gonzalez, who reluctantly enters the ring, clearly not happy with being in a team. He tries to corner Morgan, but Morgan does get a tag to Tyler and he takes control. Tyler actually goes to pin Gonzlalez and Morgan breaks it um, to make sure he gets the win, and this happens numerous times during the match. From there the match becomes a mess. Martin comes in and takes it to Tyler as they exchange blows, while Morgan hits Gonzalez from behind. Morgan continues his attack but eventually Gonzalez dumps him out of the ring, while Tyler hit Martin with a Tradition Slam on the outside, before slipping into the ring. Gonzalez turns to be hit with a Tradition slam and earns the shot at the champ, as he gets the pin.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Skull%20DeBones_alt_zps1spbfeoz.jpg

Vengeance appears before Tyler, but Tyler bails from the ring before he can be attacked. Vengeance stands alone in the ring for a few seconds before the lights turn out again. Before the arena is covered in a dark red light, the ring still only occupied by Vengeance. The arena goes dark again.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Nemisis_zpsk6yy5xsd.jpg

However, this time when the dark red light comes back on, Nemesis stands face to face with Vengeance in the middle of the ring. The fans cheer loudly as the men in the ring stand face to face before a brawl ensues. Reminiscent of a certain brawl that happened in SWF just a few months ago, the brawl is brutal and goes all around the arena, in the ring, by the barricades, on the braodcast table and even in the crowd. However, they eventually return to the ring, both men bloodied and Nemesis plants Vengeance in the middle of the ring with a nasty Nemesis Arrow. This time, Vengeance doesn't get up and nemesis grabs a mic, blood dripping from his face.

Nemesis: What is light without the dark? What is good without evil? What is an angel without a demon? A man who considers himself an angel, avenging the sins that many commit, yet he uses the darkness as his ally? The darkness is unpredictable, you don't what it will bring. Tonight, it brings his nemesis, his downfall. I must stop the light and return DAVE back to the darkness that had preceded Vengeance's turn to the avenger. I will be the demon, I will be the darkness, I will be the man who breaks the bulb of light. The blood I spill is a sacrifice for the greater good, as the darkness is the only occurrence that is natural in nature. Vengeance you were made by man, I within the natural fires of hell. Nature must destroy what man tried to destroy, the darkness that nature intended.

Phil wasn't quite sure what I was doing, or what he wanted me to do. I had done the feud with Datsun before and we weren't too happy about doing it again so we decided against that, sure I eventually got a gig, but it was never a gig I wanted until I was actually in it. So at that time I was just another guy on the card but Phil had been concentrating on the other stories but I was definitely looking around for something to do. Not that it makes much sense for me to go into a feud for no reason, I just wanted something, anything. Course I'd only have to wait one more month until I became relevant again.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Danny%20Fonzarelli_alt1_zpsc5zvjwhk.jpg

So you had Tyler and Martin, Gonzalez and Morgan, Walker and Chandler and now Vengeance and Nem, but the tag division was just chugging along nicely. Raul and I knew that we has something good going and I think the Peaks knew that too, sure we only had what like five teams but still, all of them were solid. Like you had us, the Peaks and Animalz were like top echelon, and there was one more to join that before late 97 when the tag division was probably one of the best in America, no joke.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Easy%20Emma_zpswkbbf9zj.jpg

Not gonna lie, I loved that angle. I had no problem with doing it and all the fans loved it. Phil was a bit against me using my body to get over seems I had the charisma and mic work to get over, and he was like an older brother to me, so he was being protective but sex sells and I had no problem in using that, member Playboy in April 06, the highest selling issue in that companies history, yeah your welcome. Monty and Eddie had great chemistry though and it was a real pleasure being in the angle with them.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Chris%20Caulfield_zpskdaig2c5.jpg

So, there it is. That was the plan and it was all about a solid reaction from the crowd and because I was awful on the mic it wasn't quite there. Thankfully Henry Lee was able to build up to it very nicely with his mic work so, yeah its great. Lee and I were extremely happy to be wrestling each other and we were pretty happy to put each other as well. Something that was pretty rare at that time in DAVE.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/The%20Wolverine_zpsa1qfzvld.jpg

I was in the tag division and here I was beating Datsun in the semi-main event, it made no fricken sense. Datsun wasn't misbehaving backstage or anything, he was just in a rut really, with no program. I was pretty annoyed at that I was being put over Datsun, like he was a good competitor and I was in the tag division and Phil just thought, "Hey, let's put you over cause your my enforcer". Politiks are politiks I guess.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Eric%20Tyler_alt_zpsnhqbciyx.jpg

Really a solid match, Johnny and Shawn were really good, especially Shawn who was getting his loner gimmick over but I really though that the match was a secondary thought and it was like, just get to the angle which is kinda sh!tty. Not going to lie I was legitimately heated about it. Like I understand it was a big deal and what not but I think it was like lets top the main event with an angle, me and Nem had a few words afterwards and we could've gone off but we didn't Nem will tell you about it. The match was an afterthought.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/DAVE/Nemisis_zpsk6yy5xsd.jpg

Looking back at it now, it makes sense. The angle does like take a lot away from the match, which was solid. Yet me and Vengeance were building up to something big and like we needed to build that up. Eric was pissed, Johnny wasn't very happy but like back then only Tyler had the balls to come up and say it. Martin had quiet words with Phil but Martin had nothing to worry about, he had his feud so, he was doing well. As was Tyler, Gonzalez and Morgan so they were pissed for a whole like 2 hours, so we got over it but yeah I was finally in the East Coast Wars. I think the reveal was fricken great. Phill was happy, I was happy, hell even Sean Martyn was happy too. At the end of the day, the end of the East Coast Wars had begun. it was the beginning of the end.

A solid opener between a good wrestler and a hardcore guy. Butcher takes most of the nasty bumps while Cox does his bit too taking a nasty shot from a barbed wire bat. A stiff shot by Butcher with a chair opens up Cox but Butcher doesn't bleed until he gets hit with the Immortal Driver onto a chair wrapped in barbed wire.

A pre-taped interviews with both competitors of tonight's main event.

Rahn: What is there to say about this? It'll be a war, and everyone knows it. I'm not going to leave the arena until I walk out with the title it's pretty simple.

Heat: I'm going to bring him to hell. Through fire and brimstone, burn him with fire and in the end, the title will remain in the underworld, around my waist as the champion.

Rahn: Heat can say what he wants. He puts me in hell, I'll bring him with me. If I get burned, he gets burned. if I bleed, he bleeds. It's a simple concept, anarchy is what these fans want and I'll give it too them.

Heat: I am the devils advocate. I am the devil's only son. Rahn cannot burn what has already been burnt. He'll be surrounded by demons, the demons that are his own and he won't get out, he'll stay in hell for eternity.

Rahn: He can think what he wants, in the end whatever I go through, I'll put him through and in the end, I'll become the champ.

A decent match up with Rando doing most of the work. Both guys take nasty bumps which includes a scary fall off the ropes to the outside through a table covered in light tubes. Rando hits a nice slam through a light tube in the ring, however, Scott returns the favour with a splash from the top rope with a light tube on Rando, but it isn't enough. Scott suffers a loss after being hit with a Bull Rush.

The match is quite one sided as Colossus and Phunk make The Nation of Filth look very poor. Phunk powerbombs Grunt through a ladder and an electric chair by Colossus is greeted by a pop from the crowd. The match ends when Colossus and Phunk hit an electric chair crossbody combo to put Stink through a table.

Kendall: It's easy to say, harder to do. Me and Rampage have had our differences, but tonight we brawl and at the end of it, Rampage will definitely be a bloody mess. Not just to give the fans what they want, to give me some payback. Rampage is the reason why I stay awake at night, the pain in my shoulder is a reminder to what he did. And tonight I'll end it and make sure he doesn't get up.

The match is brutal but not very good. Dunc is aggressive in his approach but Rampage seems to be calling it in. Rampage doesn't hit many big moves but does hit a nasty chair shot to Dunc which busts him open. However Dunc returns the favour with a DDT onto a chair. The match isn't quite what it could have been as Rampage seems uninterested. The match is over when Dunc puts Rampage through a table with a spear then pins him and Rampage doesn't make the ten count.

The match is a solid contest and an open one too. Future hits a good few moves that pop the crowd but Simpson is not one to be outdone and hits a cool looking senton leg drop from the top. Future hits a sweet German suplex into the corner turnbuckle. The match is put together well and both guys display some solid skills. Simpson looks like he is measuring Future for the end but is hit with a Future Rising and Future gets the win.

A bloody match, Rahn and Heat do everything they said they would and more. They beat each other senseless with blood pouring from both men's face and body and the canvas is almost completely red afterwards. Rahn is even powerbombed through a flaming table while Heat is hit with a flaming chair. Rahn also gets thrown through a pane of glass then Rahn suplexes Heat through onto the broken glass. Rahn also gets smashed with a light tube but Heat is slammed into thousands of thumbtacks on the concrete outside. However, Rahn cannot get the win and after being hit with a Satan's Word through a flaming table, heat retains his title.

The match is over and both men are feeling the effects, it takes a few minutes for Heat to rise and celebrate to a mix of boos and cheers but the action isn't over. Rahn rises and begins to attack Heat but Heat also brawls back. Clubbing blows by both men are cheered on by the fans and weapons are even introduced. Rahn ends the battle with a splash from atop a ladder onto Heat who laid on a table with tacks on it below.

The Immortal Driver was over and every match I had was just leading up to that. As time has come and gone I have never really been associated with hardcore. I've just been "hey, there's the guy with that finishing move". Not that it a bad thing but I tried to be more then just that. Give the fans what they want. That match was fun but Butcher wasn't too happy with jobbing to me, there was a lot of that in XFW.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Elton%20Rando_zpsrqipmapu.jpg

Back then Dunc thought Scott was like the saviour of XFW. The struggles of XFW were well documented in early 97 and Dunc was thinking I could give him a good win, but I wasn't willing to put him over. Look, wrestling is a business and the way things were going XFW was going to be closed down by the time 98 came around so I was doing what was right by me at the time. I remember me and Aurthur were talking about it and he called me the Sam Strong of the East Coast Wars as a joke, but in a way he was right. I wasn't going to put Scott over just because he was the apparent saviour of a promotion that was a sinking ship anyway.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Duncan%20Kendall_alt_zps3iyifd9l.jpg

As far as I was concerned it XFW was going to be around for a long time and I needed to get The Nation of Filth out of the promotion, they didn't want to be there and I didn't want them. That show was a bit of a mess. You had Butcher and Rando complaining which delayed Scott's big win. Rampage phoned it in on our match and Rahn and Heat didn't click at all in the ring and had to cover it up with weapons. We survived it though so we were happy with that. Overall, I was trying to build the company up but it wasn't working.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Honest%20Frank_zpsuvswaqte.jpg

People didn't care about my match with Aurthur and you know that hurts. When you have a big main event the semi main event loses it's draw and I felt like it did. Aurthur was a guy who could wrestle quite well and I could brawl a bit so the match itself was actually a solid contest just that nobody wanted to watch it, I guess that's wrestling.

http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag183/darragh2oo9/ECW/XFW/Ghenghis%20Rahn_zpsosgdazih.jpg

For me, this was the beginning of the end for us. After March things got exceedingly worse backstage, guys began to leave, a new roster was being created. Some talk about that match as a classic but at the time, it was actually a huge disappointment. So, that kind of broke us, and it broke Dunc too. DAVE, RPW and PPPW were getting on pretty well and we were always falling behind, in the end I knew my future wouldn't be in XFW, but back then, I never wanted to admit it.
