[C-Verse 2014] GLPW: The New Tradition (Looks a lot like the Old Tradition)

Thanksgiving 2013:

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Runaway%20Train_zps5padiwjo.jpg

“So the Eisens fired you, huh?”

Everyone always assumes my dad was named Runaway Train for the way he runs over people in the ring- truth is, he’s like that all the time.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Ross%20Bowen_zps0dljblpr.jpg

“Well, it wasn’t exactly fired, it wasn’t like they were unhappy with me or anything, they just decided that the online matches could be handled by the senior announce team, that’s all.”

“So they didn’t think you were good enough, then.”

“Compared to Peter Michaels, Duane Fry and Jerry Eisen? Well, obviously I’m not Dad, they’ve got decades of experience on me, come on.”

“So how’re you going to work to match their ability then? You don’t have their experience, how’re you going to match their talent?”

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Lisa%20Bowen_zpsdfxui1ha.jpg

“Jeez Dad, lay off will you?”

Dad’s always preferred Lisa more- she never disappointed him by being me- but she’s never been a b*tch about it. Mind you, we are twins, which I guess counts for a lot.

“So Ross lost his job, it’s not like he got someone killed or something, god.”

“I’m just asking him what he’s going to do to get another job. Not everyone has the kind of talent it takes to get a job with Rip Chord straight out the gate, Lisa, and your brother needs to think very hard about what he’ll do next.”

“Oh bullsh*t. Lisa, I love you but everyone at this table knows you got the job at MAW because Dad talked Rip into hiring you, and if he could be bothered he could just as easily get me a job anywhere he liked. But no, for some reason Dad all you ever give me is this cr@p about how I’ve got to work hard and nobody will be giving me a hand. So I’ve gotta ask Dad, how come Lisa get the breaks and the help and I don’t?”

“We are not having this conversation now Ross…”

“Oh I think we are Dad. Why not me, huh? What’s so different between me and Lisa that you help her and not me?”

“Alright, you really wanna know why? Because Lisa belongs in this business and you belong in a god@mn office like I’ve been telling you for years! Alright? Ross Bowen, you do not have a place in this business, now quit acting like you do and face up to reality!”

I am not going to walk out of Thanksgiving Dinner in a rage. I am not going to walk out of Thanksgiving Dinner in a rage.

I walk out of Thanksgiving Dinner in a rage.

***

Three weeks later and it’s Lisa who’s the first to contact me, calling me up at my flat in Milwaukee. Not that that’s a surprise, even if Dad did decide to apologise (which would be quite literally the first time ever) he’d never be the one to actually make contact.

“How’re you holding up bro? Look, Dad really does feel bad about what happened, you do know that, right?”

“You’re not trying to convince me he wants to apologise are you Lisa?”

“Of course not, you know Dad. But he does feel bad about what he said- still thinks he’s right, of course, he’s Dad, but he didn’t want to say it like that.”

“Yeah, whatever. Honestly Lisa? It wasn’t really the tone that bothered me. Right from day one I knew Dad didn’t support my announcing work, but to find out that he doesn’t want me in the business altogether? That hurt, sis, no matter how you or Dad dress it up.”

“So prove him wrong. It’s not exactly going to be difficult, I read that stupid blog of yours, you’ve got better ideas than half the clowns writing for the big leagues”

That stupid blog, as Lisa so eloquently put it, was my old fantasy booking column from before Supreme brought me in to handle the online content. Not the most embarrassing part of my past, but since Lisa knows all the things that are worse I’m not gonna bring that up.

“Okay, so maybe I do, but how do I go about it? It’s not like I have the rep to get a job anywhere decent- I mean, maybe I could go out west and try for one of the hardcore outfits out there but can you see me booking the likes of IPW or Grimm So-Cal?”

“Yeah, that’s not your style…so why not open your own place? C’mon, it’s not like you don’t have the money.”

Have you ever had that thing where your sister is talking crazy, only then you realise she’s actually making sense and it’s like the whole nature of reality shifts? Yeah, I wasn’t a fan either.

“That’s…actually, that might work. I haven’t touched Grandma’s bequest, and there’s what? 40, 50 thousand dollars in there? Should be enough to get something going, and if I base it out of the Great Lakes then I won’t even have to worry about competition. As for product, maybe some kind of updated Old-School set-up…”

“Yeah yeah, great, whatever. You forgot the most important thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Who gave you the idea for this? That’d be me. You owe me a job, bro.”

If anyone tells you it’s great having a twin sister, don’t you believe ‘em.

It took the rest of 2013 to get things organised, but come January 2014 Great Lakes Pro Wrestling was ready for action. Well, we were open and had a roster in place, I don’t know if that really counts as ready…

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/GLPW_zpshfyhiyfs.jpg

Great Lakes Pro Wrestling

Size: Local

Finance: $25,000

Product: ‘The New Tradition’

Key Feature- Traditional

Medium- Mainstream & Modern

Low- Hardcore, Realism and Cult

Roster:

The Babyfaces:

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Ace%20Youngblood_zps6xrkkgyl.jpg

Ace Youngblood

Age: 28 Billed From: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Entrance Music: Run to the Hills- Iron Maiden

Finisher: Flying Tomahawk Chop

Ace is our top face, and is well suited to the role. He’s a talented all-rounder with solid fundamentals, and whilst he probably can’t handle his own promos his leadership backstage more than makes up for any weaknesses on the stick.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Paradigm_zpsnt5pehdk.jpghttp://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Robbie%20Wright_zpsnsk7almy.jpg

Ade Nelson & Robbie Wright- The Tracksuit Mafia

Ages: 24 & 22 Billed From: San Diego, California & Miami, Florida

Entrance Music: The Magnificent Seven- The Clash

Finishers: Wright-Off (Fireman’s Carry into a Flapjack, Wright), Drop the Paradigm (Frog Splash, Nelson)

Lisa recommended the Tracksuit Mafia to me- she works with them in MAW- and whilst I wouldn’t necessarily call them great workers there’s potential there. Robbie’s got plenty of charisma and solid fundamentals whilst Ace…well, he can hit that Frog Splash really well. In any case, they’ve got a reasonable level of experience, and at our level that’s probably more important than how strong they are individually.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Jebediah_zpsms32pm77.jpg

Jebediah

Age: 25 Billed From: Elkhart County, Indiana

Entrance Music: Amish Paradise- Weird Al Yankovic

Finisher: Sundown Splash (Big Splash)

Jebediah comes to us from RIPW, where he’s been working for a few years now. One of the more talented big guys on the indy scene, Jeb’s a solid brawler and his fundamentals are decent enough. Okay, his stamina could do with improving but there’s ways of working around that, and if nothing else there’s enough lower-card guys for him to squash while he improves.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Remmy%20Honeyman_zpss7qdbiqj.jpg

Remmy Honeyman

Age: 26 Billed From: Madison, Wisconsin

Entrance Music: Never Say No- Steve Miller Band

Finisher: Honeyman Special (Unprettier)

One of our local guys, Remmy is probably our strongest all-rounders and has the fundamentals to carry just about anyone. Unfortunately he hasn’t really got the star power or mic skills to get himself to the top of the card, which is a pity as he’d make a great hometown hero. Still, he’s a key part of our roster and will be handling road agent duties alongside Mike O’Haire.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Rob%20Reynolds_zps1yd2qa9e.jpg

Rob Reynolds

Age: 23 Billed From: Detroit, Michigan

Entrance Music: Seven Nation Army- White Stripes

Finisher: Real Deal Rocker (Gamengiri)

Another quasi-local boy (Michigan’s technically in our region), Rob’s got a lot of potential; his all-round game is nearly up there with Remmy, and whilst his mic skills still aren’t quite at promo levels he’s got the charisma and star quality to enhance his ringwork. Given time to improve and the right breaks I could see Rob making it to the top of the card.

The Heels

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Doctor%20Michael%20OHaire_zpslbq2nu9s.jpg

Doctor Michael O’Haire

Age: 30 Billed From: Tijuana, Mexico

Entrance Music: Dr. Feelgood- Motley Crue

Finishers: Mandible Claw, Stomach Claw

His evil surgeon character may be hopelessly gimmicky but Mike’s easily got the talent to work round any issues that may arise. Okay, so he’s a one-dimensional brawler but at least he’s a good one, and he can handle his own promo’s should the need arise (always handy). What’s more, his psychology is strong enough that he can handle the road agent duties- outstanding given that he’s only been full-time for less than a year.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Spike_alt3_zpsfhzs3kkc.jpg

Filth Sylvain

Age: 27 Billed From: Brooklyn, New York

Entrance Music: Blank Generation- Richard Hell & The Voidoids

Finisher: Blank Generation (Hammerlock DDT)

Filth is NYCW’s the New York Doll, only with a different name and even angrier (if that was possible). Ironically outside of the ring he’s one of the nicest guys in the company, which is really the reason I brought him in. Not that he’s a bad worker, mind, but he’s no more than average in the ring.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Monty%20Trescarde_zpsknky8jmn.jpg

Monty Trescarde

Age: 28 Billed From: Manhattan, New York

Entrance Music: Money for Nothing- Dire Straits

Finisher: Cash Bonus (O’Connor Roll)

Monty’s our top heel, and probably has enough talent to maintain that spot; his technique is his real strength but he can brawl pretty well and there’s a couple of flashy moves in there too. His promos are really his only major weakness, but with Lisa Bowen on hand to handle that and minions in the Good Ol’ Boys he’s got all the tools to hold onto the top heel spot for a while.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Mutant_zpsnxdrkly6.jpg

Mutant

Age: 19 Billed From: Death Valley

Entrance Music: When Doves Cry- Prince

Finisher: The Tina-Turner (Jackhammer)

Mutant’s a pretty promising rookie- not the best I’ve ever seen, but given his size there’s enough skill there to make him a worthwhile addition to the roster. As for his weaknesses, there’s nothing really wrong with him that experience won’t solve, and his weirdo character and out-there style should help him stand out from the likes of Monty or Filth.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Wooton%20Fitzpaine_zpsbbrxzjxk.jpghttp://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/Looneyboyo/GLPW/Thimbleby%20Langton_zpss2tblbby.jpg

Wooton Fitzpaine & Thimbleby Langton- The Good Ol’ Boys

Ages: both 29 Billed From: Elk Horn, Iowa

Entrance Music: The Devil Went Down to Georgia- The Levellers

Finishers: Gutwrench Flapjack (Gutwrench Alley Oop, Langton), Running Big Foot (Running Big Boot, Fitzpaine)

There are probably more talented tag teams than the Good Ol’ Boys but there aren’t many that can match their experience or positive influence backstage. Okay, they can’t do much more than brawl, but at least they can do that well, and for big guys they’ve got the gas to go for a good long match- not always a given when you’re as big as these guys.

The Non-Wrestlers

Ross Bowen

I’m handling the announcing duties, alongside a rotating series of colour guys (currently on the list are Robbie Wright, Lisa, Mike O’Haire and Ace Youngblood). Hopefully that strategy will work out, as we don’t have the money for a regular colour guy and I really don’t have the skill to do both jobs (not well, anyways).

Lisa Bowen

Lisa’s here managing Monty Trescarde and The Good Ol’ Boys, as well as generally filling the role of ‘irritating twin sister’. She’s good at the first role and outstanding at the second.

Kurt Lovenkrantz

Our ref, Kurt’s willing to work cheap whilst still being good enough to not get in the way and drag matches down. That’s pretty much all we need from him.

Love the backstory here. Hope you can get this off the ground and have a good long run. I don't usually play the prediction game but if it will give you a boost I'll have a go.

FOR THE GLPW AMERICAN TITLE

Ace Youngblood vs. Monty Trescarde

Have used Ace more than I have Monty but I like the idea of a heel champ to start off with. Give Ace some chasing to do and give you your first long "war" feud.

The Tracksuit Mafia vs. The Good Ol’ Boys

The better known commodities. I've enjoyed the Paratroopers in the past but I don't think I've ever known anybody to really push any of them.

Rob Reynolds vs. Filth Sylvain

More experienced guy and he has a gimmick already. Reynolds will need to develop an act over time. Sylvian's more ready to make an impact right away.

Jebediah vs. Doctor Michael O’Haire

I like Jebediah and even have a special storyline for him if I can ever get the second Cappy Pack out. But again I gotta go for the heel and the potential spark to a feud.

Remmy Honeyman vs. Mutant

Admittedly a bit of a bias pick. I have a soft spot for Remmy and have long wanted to get a game off the ground where he's on my roster. But Mutant's a rookie and not really ready to be dominating people yet. I think I would book Mutant's loss to be by DQ though. Showcase his potential to eventually dominate but pair it with his inability to recognize how to do so. Gotta crawl before you can walk after all.

GLPW Night of Glory

Live from the Sports Page

Saturday, Week 3, January

Audience: 71

The Show

Remmy Honeyman vs. Mutant

This wasn’t a terrible match, relative to our size anyway. Really the only major issue was Mutant’s stamina; as with a lot of the bigger guys he can’t go for that long, and with our standard match length clocking at 12 minutes he was gassing as we went into the final stretch. As for Remmy, he put in a big shift in this one, bumping around for Mutant like a rubber ball and even showing some improvement in his performance skills. Still, Mutant got the win here- he needs to establish himself more- by putting Remmy away with the Tina-Turner at 11:59.

Winner: Mutant Match Rating: E+

*

Jebediah vs. Doctor Michael O’Haire

The second match on the card was very much like the first; solid, even good for our size but ultimately nothing special. Honours were fairly even in terms of quality for this one, with Mike’s charisma and star quality giving everything a good polish whilst Jeb followed Remmy’s example and put in a lot of hard graft tonight; hopefully that will continue as we go forward. Jeb also got the win, tonight, putting Mike away with the Sundown Splash to secure the pinfall.

Winner: Jebediah Match Rating: E+

*

Rob Reynolds vs. Filth Sylvain

After two unexceptional matches this one moved up a gear, as I’d expected. Rob’s all-round ability and star quality make him a star in the making, and whilst Filth needs to improve a little if he wants to remain near the top of the card he’s got the experience to match up to just about anyone. Stamina problems once again reared their ugly head, a lot of our roster struggle to go for long, but I’m not going to change that anytime so I figure we’ll just have to deal with it until people start to improve. In any case, Filth got the win- Rob’s a star in the making, not a finished article- by putting his opponent away with the Blank Generation at 12:14.

Winner: Filth Sylvain Match Rating: D-

*

We cut to the GLPW promo position (which is basically a camera pointing at a GLPW poster), where Lisa Bowen is on hype duty for the tag match.

“Are you kidding me? I bring The Good Ol’ Boys, the toughest, strongest, baddest team in wrestling to Great Lakes Pro Wrestling, and they put us up against The Tracksuit Mafia? A couple of clowns in sportswear who think they’re sooooo hot. Well boys, tonight is gonna be the worst night of your lives, ‘cos tonight you’re up against the best tag team in independent wrestling, and when Wooton Fitzpaine and Thimbleby Langton hit a guy? They stay hit.”

The menacing presence of the Good Ol’ Boys helped what was already a decent promo into the realms of the truly splendid.

Rating: D+

*

The Tracksuit Mafia vs. The Good Ol’ Boys

For all the problems this match had it actually turned out pretty well. Okay it wasn’t as good as Rob/Filth, but given that Robbie and Ade have no chemistry as tag partners and nobody involved had the psychology to handle the 18 minute runtime it could’ve been a lot worse. There were a few upsides, though; Wooton and Thimbleby’s experience covered a multitude of sins, Lisa was great at ringside (Wooton in particular really benefitted from having somebody to play off in that role) and Robb did a good job clearing house as we went into the final stretch. I still gave this one to the Boys, mind you (good thing, too, if we have to split the mafia), and Wooton secured the win with a Running Big Foot on Ade whilst Lisa stopped Robbie breaking the pin by grabbing onto his legs and refusing to let go.

Winners: The Good Ol’ Boys Match Rating: E+

*

Ace Youngblood vs. Monty Trescarde

Okay, I will never tell Lisa this but she’s really helped this show, what with her promo earlier and her contributions to our marquee matches. Monty was another one who benefitted from her presence, and given the lack of star quality or other intangible qualities on display here her presence at ringside came in very handy. As for the action itself, Ace and Monty may not have much by way of charisma or star quality but they can get it done in the ring, and whilst Ace was gassed by the end and Monty blew a couple of minor spots it all came together pretty nicely. In the end Ace took this one with the Flying Tomahawk Chop; with Filth and the Boys having won their matches I wanted to end with a face win to send the crowd home happy, and a babyface champ gives us more options at the top of the card.

Winner: Ace Youngblood Match Rating: D-

Overall Rating: D-, more than good enough for a company our level without being anything really extraordinary. Plaudits tonight go to Lisa and The Good Ol’ Boys.

Coming off the back of Night of Glory, a couple of things were apparent. Firstly, most of our roster were struggling to cope with the length of our matches, and secondly we needed a new top face team after the Tracksuit Mafia proved to be a non-starter. The first problem, well, that wasn’t something I felt any real need to address- the matches had turned out okay, after all, and stamina would improve over time- but a new face team was an absolute necessity. I’d thought about letting Ade go and bringing in somebody new to team with Robbie, but we needed a secondary babyface to step in behind Ace and Robbie was the obvious candidate. With that in mind, I figured we were better off keeping Ade and transitioning him into a new team with a new wrestler- we’d made a profit of about 4,000 dollars in January and that was enough for a couple of new wrestlers to sort out the issue.

Miller Fforde

Age: 21 Billed From: Easton, Pennsylvania

Entrance Music: Simply the Best- Tina Turner

Finisher: Fforde Flip Face Crusher (Diamond Dust)

Miller’s been brought in to take over from Robb as Ade’s tag partner. He’s another MAW star, the fifth on our roster, but his style should mesh pretty well with Ade’s and I didn’t want somebody who’d overshadow his partner; Miller’s here to be a tag guy, if I wanted a breakout singles star I wouldn’t have brought him in.

Cowboy Buck Winchester

Age: 25 Billed From: Dallas, Texas

Entrance Music: Gimme Three Steps- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Finisher: Hangman’s Neckbreaker

Cowboy Buck’s another Rhode Island guy, and whilst I only brought him in to balance out the roster he’s got the potential to work his way into a strong midcard role for us. He’s a solid brawler and aside from his rookie psychology his fundamentals are all pretty decent. Admittedly his stamina isn’t really up to snuff but he’s hardly alone in that one and hopefully that will improve as time goes on.

***

“Hey bro, ‘sup?”

“Not that I’m not pleased to see you Lisa- though I’m really not- but aren’t you supposed to still be out East?”

“Nice to see you too Ross, and nah. Wrestling Classic isn’t ‘til after we run here and the Carolinas are, like, super boring.”

“And Milwaukee isn’t?”

“It has you and your inability to deal with anybody distracting you. So, what’s the plans for the next show?”

“None of your business, maybe?”

“It’s cute that you think that would stop me, Ross, it really is. So, booking plans, feuds, how much money I’ll be making for you next month, what’s happening?”

“Feud-wise I’m still figuring that out- I want to see how well Ace faces off with Filth before I commit to anything for the title, and I don’t want to plan out a whole feud for The Good Ol’ Boys and then find Ade and Miller don’t work together. So yeah, lots of trying stuff out this next show, hopefully some of it will work.”

“If it doesn’t then remember Ross…Dad was right and it’s all your fault”

“Har-de-friggin-har Lisa, you’re hilarious. Now, if you don’t mind I do actually have to get some work done, so maybe you could p*ss off someplace ‘til I’m done.”

“I could, but let’s face it I’m not gonna so why pretend?”

Have I ever mentioned how annoying my sister is?

FOR THE GLPW AMERICAN TITLE

Ace Youngblood © vs. Filth Sylvain

Wouldn't think you'd be turning the belt over so soon.

Flying Squad (Miller Fforde & Ade Nelson) vs. The Good Ol’ Boys

More established team v another trial balloon

Jebediah vs. Mutant

You seem to want him to grasp the monster role by the horns. Beating a guy the size of Jebediah would help with that.

Monty Trescarde vs. Remmy Honeyman

Still gotta believe he's the natural rival for Youngblood so far as your roster goes.

Robbie Wright vs. Doctor Michael O’Haire

A toss-up as far as I'm concerned but you stated you have hopes for Wright as a singles competitor.

Rob Reynolds vs. Cowboy Buck Winchester

Gimmick versus no gimmick. Hence more reason folks should care about Winchester. Reynolds needs to develop an act before he goes much of anywhere.

GLPW Lost in America

Live from The Sports Page

Saturday, Week 3, February

Audience: 66

The Show

Cowboy Buck Winchester vs. Rob Reynolds

We kicked the show off tonight with another strong match- clearly Rob Reynolds is becoming a bit of a sleeper hit what with his math from last month and tonight. Admittedly he’s had strong opposition both times- Filth’s a solid hand and Buck’s got plenty of charisma and star quality- but even so, Robbie’s got a lot of competition for that number two babyface slot. As for this match, it was a classic brawl vs. striking match, with Rob’s martial arts style going up against Buck’s less sophisticated but equally useful fisticuffs. In the end this one went to Rob, who put Buck away with the Real Deal Rocker at 11:51.

Winner: Rob Reynolds Match Rating: D-

*

Jebediah vs. Mutant

In wrestling there’s a simple rule; for every unexpected success there must be an equal failure. After Rob’s unexpected success we got this clunker, which was a real bummer as I was hoping we could spin this into a feud, big man vs. big man. Admittedly that’s not completely off the table for down the line, but right now it’s clear that Mutant and Jeb just don’t have the experience to match up well; they weren’t up to holding the match together for the full 12 minutes and it really sagged in the middle. Throw in the usual stamina problems and you’ve got a match I’m going to have to mark down as unrepeatable for at least the foreseeable future. I gave this one to Jeb- he’s got more upside right now- and he got the win with a pinfall after nailing Mutant with a big flying shoulder tackle and following up with the Sundown Splash.

Winner: Jebediah Match Rating: E

*

Monty Trescarde vs. Remmy Honeyman

This one was another high quality encounter, but given Remmy and Monty’s ability I kind of figured on it being a good one. Remmy’s not really in the running for a top face role but as a midcard anchor he’s invaluable, and if we ever get a midcard title then he’s definitely in line for being the inaugural champion. As for Monty, he’s probably our top heel and whilst I’m not sure if he’ll feud with Ace or with one of our up-and-comers he’s definitely going to get a key storyline in the next couple of months. He took the win here, rolling Remmy up with the Cash Bonus and grabbing a handful of tights to make sure Honeyman couldn’t kick out.

Winner: Monty Trescarde Match Rating: D-

*

From there we head back to the promo position, where Robbie Wright is on hype duty for his match.

“Y’know, man, I gotta ask you, Doctor O’Haire…why do you always harsh my buzz, man? Every time I roll up here in Wisconsin you’re always hanging around with that freaky mask on, trying to operate on people or claw at them or whatever and I gotta tell you, man, it’s really weird. So tonight, man, I figure it’s time somebody, and by somebody I guess I mean me, taught you how to be cool. And just so we’re clear? That means I’m gonna whup your ass in that ring, man”

Robbie’s got plenty of charisma so this turned out pretty well. Not as good as Lisa can manage, but then she has the Good Ol’ Boys and a bit more name value on her side.

Rating: D-

*

Robbie Wright vs. Doctor Michael O’Haire

This was a squash match to get Robbie some momentum, so quality wasn’t really the priority. Still, when you throw Mike O’Haire into the mxi you’re never going to get a bad match, so whilst this wasn’t a classic or anything it was still pretty solid (better than Jeb/Mutant, any road up). With Rob Reynolds emerging as another potential top face I’m not sure if Robbie’s quite got what it takes for that spot; his charisma and star quality are definitely in the right league but I’m concerned about his stamina and let’s face it, he’s not exactly one of our finest in terms of workrate, is he? Still, he is in that picture for now so I gave him the win.

Winner: Robbie Wright Match Rating: E+

*

And now it’s time for the highlight of our show: my sister’s mic work.

“I cannot, cannot, believe this. Last month we beat you, Ade Nelson, and not just a little, we obliterated your worthless @ss. And now, now you find yourself a new partner and suddenly you’re ready to take us on again? No way. The fact that you’re standing across that ring after how we beat you last month, that’s an insult to me and an insule to The Good Ol’ Boys. And trust me, you do not want to get on their bad side.”

That sound you can hear? That’s the sound of Lisa hitting this one out of the park.

The Good Ol’ Boys vs. Flying Squad

This wasn’t a bad match exactly but it was still a disappointment. Ade and Miller don’t have the chemistry problems that the Tracksuit Mafia did but all the other problems for last month recurred so this wasn’t much of an improvement. On the plus side Ade did show some improvement, Miller’s a good fit as a fun babyface to compliment Ade’s similar gimmick and Lisa remains our ace in the hole. Thimbleby took the win here- with their experience and menace the Good Ol’ Boys remain our top team- putting Ade away with the Gutwrench Flapjack whilst Wooton took Miller out with a lariat on the apron.

Ace Youngblood vs. Filth Sylvain

Our main event was a solid match but I think it’s safe to say that Filth’s not quite a match for Monty as top heel. He’s good, mind you, and actually might even be able to handle his own promo work (not as well as Lisa, mind) but he doesn’t have what it takes in the ring to edge Monty out of the top spot. As for Ace, he's our top guy more or less by default but has the talent and backstage presence to earn that role and the only thing I’d really like to see improve is his stamina- it’s good, but it could be a little better. In any case, when you’ve got two top heels and one top face you don’t give the title to the guy with the limited challenger pool; Ace retained here, putting Filth away at 18:10 with the Flying Tomahawk Chop.

Winner: Ace Youngblood Match Rating: D-

Overall Rating: D-, which keeps up our debut form even if this wasn’t quite as good.
