WCW 1991: The Art Of War

Recommended Posts

Sunday, week 3, January 1991

Taped from The Deer Park Community Center, Deer Park, NY.

WCW presents...

WCW MAIN EVENT!

Match 1

The York Foundation p. Pez Whatley and Keith Hart following a Taylor Made Forearm by Terrence Taylor on Keith Hart.=D

A pre-taped promo begins that shows an office building at WCW Headquarters. We see Z-Man there and he is speaking with Eric Bischoff. Bischoff tells Z-Man that they heard his request for a rematch with Larry Zbyszko but he says that they cannot grant this rematch right away. Instead, Z-Man has to earn the rematch. He will earn that rematch if he can defeat Stan Hansen this Saturday on WCW Saturday Night. A victory will get him a World Television title shot on WCW Saturday Night the following week. Z-Man looks a little worried about facing The Lariat but he agrees to the match.

Match 2

Owen Hart p. Kevin Sullivan following a Missile Dropkick.=C+

Another pre-taped promo airs. This one features The Steiner Brothers. Rick begins by saying that he's been let out of the hospital and will be there this Saturday for WCW Saturday Night. He says that no one has ever accused him of being too smart but he will get revenge on the Four Horsemen and then the next night he will take out Doom with his brother and become one half of the WCW World Tag Team Champions. Scott Steiner agrees and says that this will be the weekend of the Steiner Brothers.

Match 3

Doom p. The Southern Boys when Ron Simmons defeated Steve Armstrong by pinfall with a Diving Shoulder block.=C-

A pre-taped promo features Paul E. Dangerously and Dan Spivey. Dangerously says that last night was simply a small taste of what Lex Luger is going to feel at the Clash of the Champions. As a matter of fact, he suggests that Luger bows out of the match at the Clash and they simply give the United States title to the man who deserves it, the Dangerous One Dan Spivey. Dangerously says that he is giving Luger until the Clash to make that decision. Hopefully, The Total package makes the right decision.

The video that played last night on WCW Saturday Night featuring Ricky Steamboat plays here on the Main Event. The Dragon is making his WCW return at the Clash of the Champions. What a huge announcement that has been as The Dragon is definitely one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of the NWA.

Match 4

Bob Backlund d. Buddy Landel by submission with the Crossface Chicken Wing.=C+

Bob Backlund immediately releases the hold on Buddy Landel. He stands up and gets his arm raised when Harley Race walks out from the back. Race is applauding the victory by Backlund tonight. The two men stare each other down as the announcers remind everyone that Harley Race will meet Bob Backlund at Clash of the Champions as part of Harley Race's Retirement Tour. We'll see you this Saturday night for WCW Saturday Night one day before Clash of the Champions!

Overall: C+

Attendance: 818

===

Lex Luger - It seems like a slight burial of the Spivey/Dangerously partnership to have him drop his first big match, but Lex is definitely the star, so Luger wins it. Perhaps by DQ?

Sting

Last week was a great night for the Horsemen, but the redebut of Nikita is a great thing. He can go after pretty much anybody, even if you seem to have positioned him against Lex right away. That A for Brian vs Flair had to be huge.

I hope that the way I wrote the match didn't seem like too much of a burial of Dan Spivey. He does have another big match coming up with Lex Luger, after all.

Two straight great nights with the Horsemen. I hope you enjoyed that. Glad you enjoyed the redebut of Nikita Koloff. He is definitely a fun wrestler to write for. The return of the Russian Nightmare.

30 Minute Time Limit

Stan Hansen vs. Sting

Comments: Here Hansen would at least lose against a talented opponement. xD

I hope I made Hansen at least look like a credible threat against Sting. :)
