Yes and from that one botched turn he has been scared to do it ever since. I never actually claimed The Rock was that particular top baby face. I just had a gif of him. I find it hilarious that Vince still won't turn Roman even though a good portion of the live audience rejects him. The difference between Stone Cold turning and Roman would be Stone Cold was a shock turn and a Roman Reigns one would be a lot more accepted. He’s already been feuding with faces as the effective heel for years, except with the added effect that the kids still like him. For the most part though, I think Roman is over as a face. His workrate has improved a ton and there's a lot less heat on him from the IWC because he hasn't been given a mega push. I think they could push him again and have it work. What I found the most hilarious is how they pushed him to become champion for the first time. Honestly, a lot of this is the fault of Seth because the build up of him being an ultra punchable heel finally losing to Roman at Mania or something might have been good, but unfortunately he was injured and we needed to call an audible. So what was WWE's audible? * Have a tournament for the WWE Championship where it was painfully obvious from the very beginning that Roman would win. * Have him beat Dean Ambrose clean at Survivor Series with no heel turn for either of them which pissed off fans. * Have Roman reject a HHH handshake which, rather than seeming anti authority and cool, just seemed rude AF. If he's a face have him take the handshake and then get kicked in the balls by Hunter or something. Then he just spears HHH which seems dumb. Why would he assault the boss who arranged this big championship celebration? Faces shouldn't be total idiots, but they should give heels the benefit of the doubt. Maybe not full on Sting mode where he kept getting doublecrossed like a fool, but some happy medium. * Then Sheamus cashes in and we're supposed to think he's a dastardly heel... but most people just laughed about it. Seeing Roman laid out post SS with confetti on him was hilarious. He wasn't a sympathetic character at all. * After that he beats Sheamus to reclaim the title, but it's positioned that Vince hates Roman (which is the opposite of reality). Roman Superman Punches Vince which isn't a face type move at this point. Vince is the genetic jackhammer and all, and looks amazing for being 70... but he's an old man. Roman punching and old man for being a mean old jerk doesn't make him a good guy. It'd be like George Bailey slugging Mr. Potter in the face at the end of It's a Wonderful Life. Sure, he's a mean old man... but he's still a senior citizen. When Steve Austin was doing it, Vince was still young. It made more sense. * HHH takes matters into his own hands and beats Roman senseless on Raw (I may be getting the timeline confused) and everyone cheers. He gets huge cheers for coming out and pounding the top babyface. Should have been a clue. * Roman has to defend the title in the Royal Rumble by coming in at #1. When he gets eliminated there's a HUGE pop and everyone is pulling for Ambrose because he's white hot. Instead, HHH wins which is fine because anyone but Roman at this point. Oh, and the League of Nations pulls him under the bottom rope and beats him up. He walks to the back under his own power which makes him look like a bitch and then he takes a 20 min nap before coming back. * HHH and Ambrose have an awesome match at roadblock and people are hyped for an Ambrose win where he faces Roman at Mania, but no. HHH wins and people are kind of resigned to Roman winning at WM. * Roman wins at WM, and everyone boos. It's lame and horrible. * Seth Rollins returns to a huge pop... but they use him as a heel despite the fact he's coming back from injury and he's getting cheered. * Ambrose cashes in which we all love because Dean Ambrose was the hottest face in the WWE and that's the end of Roman. They just made a series of really poor decisions when it came to getting him over with the crowd. Stuff that made him look weak and rude and opportunistic. He didn't look strong or honorable or face like throughout his whole chase for the title or his reign. He got booed every step of the way. Nowadays though, I think they could push him correctly as a face... but if they build up to have him beat Lesnar in a rematch, that could put him right back to where he was before. The build was so horribly done and I was under so much Roman fatigue that even the mere sight of the guy makes me want to throw my Mountain Dew at him. For a long time I actually defended him until that storyline unfolded. To me he will always have that stink of bad booking on him that I've given up watching the show entirely. The only thing I watch is NXT nowadays because characters don't hang around that program long enough to get stale to me. I can't even bring myself to watch RAW and any attempt I've made since feels like punishment. I've watched Smackdown a little more frequently but the second I see a promo package with Roman featured on it I vomit in my mouth a little and it makes me turn it off. A bad story can really ruin people honestly and I'm just waiting for Vince to completely let go because he has proven incapable of booking cohesive stories to me anymore. I used to think it was like following a minor league baseball team... but really, it's more like following an amazing college basketball team (basketball works better than football in this case). </p><p> </p><p> Guys come in and are huge stars for a year before graduating. Sometimes people stay for longer, who are nice role players but not stars, but mostly you get to see major talents for short bursts.
