Segment of the Night – Randy Savage discusses the Dangerous Alliance

6NQS34R.jpg0mBYD2y.jpg

Randy Savage stood in the centre of the ring, Miss Elizabeth by his side.

Savage:
Several weeks ago the Macho Man stood in the centre of this ring and stared Paul E. Dangerously in the eye, yeah, and man a man has tried to outstare the Macho Man, stared into the heart of madness, and quailed before me... but Paul E. thought that he had an ace in the hole, an ace up his sleeve and an ace buried in the heart of the Macho Man! Paul E. Dangerously surrounded the ring with his Dangerous Alliance and dared to say I should stay away... or risk the attention of the Alliance turning on me... and Elizabeth.

Savage fell quiet for a moment, shaking his head slightly.

Savage:
Nothing –
nothing
– could make me put the safety of Elizabeth at risk. Where I came from,
no-one
would dare go after her, no-one! But here in WCW apparently they play by different rules, apparently, yeah, apparently they can ‘warn’ us that it could be dangerous for me to stand against the Dangerous Alliance... and they expected that to take. And for a while, it did! The Macho Man took notice, yeah, and the earth seemed to close around me, the sky grew dark, the birds stopped their sweet, sweet singing, and sun stopped shining... For weeks, the Macho Man was the
Broken
Man out of fear for Elizabeth.

Savage:
And she saw it, yeah, she knew, she knew what fear, what
terror
, lay in the heart of the Macho Man. She saw my suffering, and though she too was scared, she said to me that I had to be true to myself, that I had to stand against them, had to risk that I might put her in
danger
...

He paused again, taking off his sunglasses and turning to Elizabeth. Reaching out, he took her hand and raised it to his lips as she smiled at him.

Savage:
This woman, yeah, this woman is the bravest of the brave, braver than anyone in WCW or anyone else – including the Macho Man, dig it? She knew what I knew, deep down. She knew that tyranny, yeah, tyranny has to be faced down, that a fight has to take place, that the forces of right must unite and stand together.

Savage:
So when I was needed, I stood up. When the Dangerous Alliance threatened to overwhelm WCW, I joined those standing against it, yeah, I may not have been here long, but with Elizabeth beside me, I know right.

Savage:
I want to go into War Games. I want to stand alongside my partner, Scott Steiner, and show that I can be counted on. I know that Sting has a hard task ahead of him, that he has to choose a team of five that can counter the Dangerous Alliance, yeah, and maybe the Macho Madness isn’t always the most stable and reliable of the elements... But if I go into that cage, if I get set loose on the Dangerous Alliance where they can’t escape, then the Macho Man will do everything to put them down, yeah, everything to make them pay for all their many sins... but most especially for daring to threaten harm to the woman I love, and making me feel like I couldn’t protect her!

WCW Hotline Show Notes

The Young Pistols have more reason to celebrate than most right now, with their newly-won United States tag team titles around their waists! Tracy Smothers and Steve Armstrong were the very images of delight this Sunday night, and invited challengers to line up and be ready for a real fight if they wanted to take the titles from them!

Ron Simmons’ first Television title reign was a short one, but he did well on Sunday night to show that he may have learned from that experience, and in defeating Richard Morton he overcame not just a seasoned competitor but the York Foundation’s blistering 80486DX-powered stratagems!

With Morton busy elsewhere, Michael Hayes sided with Terence Taylor and Robert Gibson for the night to face off with Sting and the Thrillseekers. With War Games clearly on his mind, Sting was in no mood for messing around and delivered a Stinger Splash to Hayes just minutes into the match. However, he was unable to press his advantage due to the York Foundation duo, and ceded the match to his teammates in an apparent effort to let them prove themselves ahead of his decision on who would join Scott Steiner and himself in the War Games match. Allowing the two youngsters to carry the bulk of the match backfired, however, as Hayes recovered from his early punishment to roll up Storm while Gibson held onto his hand for leverage, leaving Sting looking frustrated – and Ric Flair on the outside looking rueful over his charge’s inability to escape the illegal pinning predicament.

The reigning NWA tag champions were in action on Sunday night, facing the Special Forces and delivering a punishing lesson to Todd Champion and Firebreaker Chip about the perils of facing the Dangerous Alliance. While the challengers were game, Anderson and Austin showed no mercy in breaking them down, culminating in a Spinning Spinebuster for Champion to give the champions another successful defence.

Shawn Michaels is chasing the WCW tag titles, and looks set to choose between the Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas when picking a partner. He gave the team with Vegas a trial run this Sunday night, clashing with the pairing of Barry Windham and Marcus Bagwell, who have War Games on their mind. The Diamond Exchange duo seemed to be goofing off as much as focusing on their match, and it could have cost them, but with someone Vegas’ size on their side they always stood a chance, and a Snake Eyes delivered to Bagwell gave Michaels and Vegas plenty to celebrate at their accustomed after-show party!

Plenty of people – and I’m not saying I wasn’t one – were sceptical about Ric Flair going into the coaching business, but the Thrillseekers’ profile has been raised by their association with Flair For The Gold Consulting, and the Nature Boy seems to get a kick out of passing on his experience. So long as Chris Jericho and Lance Storm use a little bit of common sense when taking Flair’s advice on board, they could go a long way!

Who can take down Madusa? The reigning NWA Women’s champion may just be the most dangerous member of the Dangerous Alliance, pound-for-pound. Facing off against the popular Misty Blue Simmes, Madusa was just relentless in wearing her opponent down, cutting off any rally with unrelenting efficiency before picking up the victory with a Madusaplex.

WCW Hotline Special

fnhSrdm.jpgtB2fMub.jpg

Ross:
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the WCW Hotline, I’m Jim Ross and I’m here today with the man called Sting, who’s set to announce the rest of his team ahead of War Games in just over a week’s time.

Sting:
Thanks, Jim. It’s not been an easy few weeks. Myself and my potential partners have been through a gauntlet of some of the toughest opponents that WCW has to offer – not just members of the Dangerous Alliance, but the York Foundation, the Diamond Exchange, Harley Race’s crew... anyone who’d give us a fight.

Sting:
Myself and Scott Steiner need three teammates for the War Games match, and we were looking for people who were tough, of course, but also smart, able to keep their cool if things go wrong in there, and preferably with reason to want revenge against the Dangerous Alliance to act as extra motivation.

Ross:
Forgive me, Sting, but it seems like having that extra motivation might count
against
a competitor in terms of keeping their cool in the match.

Sting:
I know. It’s a tough balance to strike, Jim, and I’ve been having second thoughts and third thoughts and fourth thoughts... But I’m happy with the team we’ve chosen; Really, there could have been eight or nine of us going into the fight.

Ross:
Well, with such a wealth of options to choose from, please take us through your choices.

Sting:
Scott Steiner, of course, you know. His brother’s still on the injured list, and we don’t know when he’ll be back – if at all. He has all the motivation you could ever need for this match.

Sting:
I wanted experience on the team, experience of War Games, experience of the biggest matches, experience of fighting in brutal, bloody matches, experience of facing men like Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman... and there’s no-one in WCW who exemplifies that better than Barry Windham. He’s on the team.

Sting:
Our next pick... Well, that’s one that may seem like it’s come out of left field. We knew we wanted youth and energy on the side, someone we could trust to compete until he had no more breath left in his body. His father was one of the pioneers of War Games, and it just felt right to continue that legacy with the next generation. Joining us in War Games will be Dustin Rhodes.

Sting:
Our final pick... Well, what more can you say about him? A multiple time tag team champion, a former Television champion, United States champion, tag champion, Intercontinental champion and of course World champion. Making his War Games debut, but probably the toughest man walking into that cage, is Ricky Steamboat!

Ross:
Sting, that’s quite a team you’ve assembled, and I understand that this Saturday night each member of that team will face a member of the Dangerous Alliance in singles competition.

Sting:
That’s right. One last chance to get ourselves pumped up for War Games – like we need it!

Ross:
Thank you, Sting, and I understand that the Dangerous Alliance has been notified of your decision, and Paul E. Dangerously has sent in a message for you and your team.

Sting:
Well, I can’t
wait
to hear it.

Ross:
Somehow, I thought that might be your reaction. Nonetheless, for those who’ve called in, stay on the line for Paul E. Dangerously’s take on the Dangerous Alliance’s opponents at War Games.

hy1Y1vz.jpg

Dangerously:
Are you kidding me? That’s the best that Sting could manage after a month of choosing? War Games is going to be even easier than I expected!

Dangerously:
No... I shouldn’t be hasty, Sting’s picked some tough guys to go in with him – Steiner’s the tag champion, for now, and tough as nails. Steamboat’s as solid as teak. Windham’s Texas strong and with all the experience you could ever ask for. If it were four on four, I’d be worried.

Dangerously:
But picking Dustin Rhodes? What is this, bring your child to work day? Is Rhodes even old enough to drink? I know they call him the Natural, but it’s going to be a natural victory for the Alliance once they get that kid inside the cage.

Dangerously:
Sting, you were so close. You could’ve had Koloff, or Savage, or even that fossil Ric Flair would have at least brought
experience
. Instead you took pity on your old buddy’s kid. It’s not like his old man’s even around anymore to hand out favours.

Dangerously:
Ah, whatever. It’s the main event of a pay-per-view. It’s money in the bank for the Dangerous Alliance, and we’ll get to beat and break four of our toughest rivals. Scott Steiner won’t be fit to defend the tag titles after War Games – the Calgary Connection will step up to fill that void. Think Sting will be coming after Rick Rude once we’ve left him lying in a pool of his own blood? Ricky Steamboat’s been going a long time – it’s past time that he gave up his spot to a coming force like Steve Austin. And as for Barry Windham, let’s see how Texas tough goes up against the best of all of the graduates of the legendary Hart dungeon!

Dangerously:
So really, I want to
thank
Sting. One decision, just one, sending a lamb in amongst the lions... And it gives the Dangerous Alliance certain domination over WCW for a long, long time to come!

</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

On a night featuring the members of Sting’s team against the Dangerous Alliance, Barry Windham came out the worst – first falling to a Missile Dropkick from Owen Hart, and then being attacked and brutalised by Brian Pillman, who crushed Windham’s arm with a steel chair after the decision as Hart held the Texan down!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

While officials and medics tended to Windham, Dustin Rhodes clashed with Steve Austin. The Natural understandably seemed conflicted during the clash, wanting to support his friend, and Austin was able to put his side 2-0 up on the night as he rolled Rhodes up with his feet on the ropes for leverage!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Tony Schiavone cornered Bret Hart, who’d been watching the matches backstage. Schiavone asked Hart what he thought of the assault on Windham, but Hart shrugged it off as no concern of his.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sting clashed with Arn Anderson in a non-title match, and thoughts of Windham seemed to be troubling the team captain during his match as well. However, as Anderson sought to capitalise, Sting upped his game and nearly took Anderson’s head off with a dropkick. Sting redoubled his efforts, hitting Anderson so hard and so fast that he struggled to build any momentum, and eventually Sting locked into a Scorpion Deathlock, forcing the submission – although Paul E. Dangerously claimed that Anderson was saving himself for War Games! Afterwards, Sting checked in on Windham, and it was clear that the news wasn’t good.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Diamond Exchange are most certainly bragadocious, no question, and made sure to belittle the Thrillseekers for not being chosen by Sting for his side. The Thrillseekers pointed out that they’d at least been in the running – the Dangerous Alliance had shown no interest in calling on the Exchange for the match!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The All-American Ron Simmons clashed with Scotty Flamingo in his second Television title defence. Whether Flamingo is Loud or Proud is debatable, he’s certainly talented and fast, nearly pinning Simmons after a snap DDT, but Simmons was able to get his foot on the rope. As Flamingo argued with the referee, Simmons snatched him up and planted him with a Spinebuster for the pin.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ricky Steamboat faced off with Brian Pillman – briefly. Pillman seemingly had no interest in facing the vengeful and fired-up Steamboat, and bailed out of the ring after just a few minutes – again, allegedly saving himself for War Games!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Young Pistols’ victory celebration continued this week, but they had watchers on Saturday Night, the Stocks And Shares Express monitoring their revelries with interest!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sting admitted that he had to pick someone to replace Barry Windham in his War Games team, and was seen speaking to Nikita Koloff, Ric Flair and Randy Savage...</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

...before deciding that Savage had shown the emotional investment to trump the others, and had the Macho Madness needed to make a difference in War Games!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In the night’s main event, Scott Steiner went all-out against Rick Rude, at times even overpowering the World champion, to the latter’s shock. Even with Madusa on hand, Rude couldn’t seem to form a dominant position against Steiner, who was out for revenge against one of his brother’s main attackers. It took the appearance of Steve Austin to distract the tag champion, and Rude quickly swooped in with a Rude Awakening to put an end to Steiner’s fight...</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

...but that only triggered a rush to the ring from Steiner’s teammates and the rest of the Dangerous Alliance, and the two sides continued to brawl wildly, heedless of officials and security, as Saturday Night went off the air! Be sure to check out WrestleWar ‘92, as the double-ring cage may be the only thing that can contain this rivalry!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

WCW Hotline Show Notes

62CI7KN.jpg

The Diamond Exchange once more argued with Ric Flair and the Thrillseekers, and this time Flair was in particularly spiky form, provoking the Exchange to putting their Six Man titles on the line at WrestleWar ’92! Shawn Michaels agreed for his side – if Flair’s team could prove they could keep up with the Exchange!

The first of three clashes between Team Flair and the Diamond Exchange saw Chris Jericho overwhelmed at times by the Diamond Studd, but the gutsy young Canadian kept fighting until Studd grew frustrated and the fight spilled out to the ringside area, eventually leading to the referee casting the match out as a double disqualification.

Lance Storm faced Vinnie Vegas in the second match between the two sides. Storm tried to chop Vegas down to size, but a Snake Eyes facedrop left him reeling, and Vegas delivered a huge big boot for the pin.

That left the Team Flair’s fate in the hands of its veteran member, with the Nature Boy lining up against the Rough Diamond in the night’s main event. It was a cagey battle between youth and experience, and the experience proved decisive as he rolled up Michaels for the pin – and if he had a handful of tights, well, the fans didn’t seem to mind! Flair and the Thrillseekers now have a title match against the Diamond Exchange at WrestleWar!

In amongst the chaos of Sunday night, Ron Simmons picked up a third successful defence of the Television title against Pat Rose, but he got no chance to relax as he was immediately issued a challenge for WrestleWar – by the Hitman, Bret Hart!

The York Foundation were psyching up Terence Taylor ahead of his I Quit match at WrestleWar. Alexandra York was preparing a special algorithm for the match, focusing on Thomas Rich’s historic injuries – all of which she had recorded on her PowerPC!

Mr Hughes has a big match coming up at WrestleWar ‘92, facing the Ultimate Warrior – who was in typically loquacious mood – and he and the One Percenters delivered a brutal show of force against the WCW Special Forces. Hughes forced the Patriot to submit to the Torture Rack – could he do the same to the Warrior?

OOC: Better that we find out on Main Event rather than the main event of Starrcade that Flair and Michaels have no chemistry as opponents, I suppose...

War Games: Sting, Scott Steiner, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage and Dustin Rhodes vs. Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Steve Austin, Brian Pillman and Owen Hart

I'm picking Sting's Squadron simply because it's the logical choice, with Sting picking up the win to set up him up with a legitimate reason to challenge Rude for the strap.......that being said, I WANT to see the Alliance win, but then that's probably just me being smarky :p hopefully however if the DA do lose here, it won't be the beginning of their end like IRL

Ultimate Warrior vs. Mr Hughes

Mr. Hughes might be in the middle of the biggest push of his career, but this may well end up as a Wrestlemania XII style squash

Ric Flair and the Thrillseekers vs. The Diamond Exchange © – WCW Six Man Titles

Sucks about the chemistry note between Flair and Michaels.....luckily that won't matter in tag action.....a no contest here sees the feud continue to a show that it won't be quite so overshadowed on by the huge main event

Beat The Champ: Ron Simmons © vs. Bret Hart – WCW Television Title

I never considered Bret for the TV title, but he really is the perfect fit for it....it was more of a workers title (much like the IC title) around this time, and there aren't many better workers than the excellence of execution

Terence Taylor vs. Thomas Rich – I Quit match

Again, not that I WANT him to win.....Taylor has more use than Rich about now, but no algorithm in the world can prepare for an I Quit match

The Young Pistols vs. The Stocks And Shares Express © – WCW United States Tag Team Titles

Tough pick.....would be a good little match too, but I think the Pistols Victory Party goes on just a little longer

</strong></em><strong>I still think the DA will attack aggressively and take out Dustin to win the match. World Championship Wrestling presents: WrestleWar ‘92

Thursday, Week 4, May 1992

Your announcers: Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Ring announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta

Backstage: Tony Schiavone, Trisa Hayes, Magnum T.A. and Eric Bischoff

The show opened with the Young Pistols facing their challengers the Stocks And Shares Express in their first defence of the United States tag team titles. Smothers and Armstrong proved themselves the equal of the Express for speed, but clearly gave up the experience advantage and that seemed like it may cost them as the Express – with Alexander York directing traffic – almost clinched victory several times. However, the Pistols escaped with their titles intact after catching Morton with the Doomsday Dropkick.

Backstage, Barry Windham was having his arm checked by a doctor, who may not have been able to see much due to the thick cast on Windham’s arm following the attack by Brian Pillman. Dustin Rhodes patted him sympathetically on the shoulder as Randy Savage promised him he’d fill Windham’s boots as best as he was able during War Games. The trio turned in anger at the sound of laughter from the doorway, where Brian Pillman and Steve Austin were stood laughing and mocking Windham, Pillman feigning a wounded arm. The Dangerous Alliance duo quickly ducked away as Rhodes and Savage lunged at them, Windham left looking furious as the doctor prevented him joining the pursuit.

The Ultimate Warrior entered the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum at high speed, and launched himself at Mr Hughes as soon as the bell rang. Harley Race’s client used his greater size to hold off the Warrior for a time, but the intensity of the Warrior could not be denied, and he pinned Hughes after a Running Splash.

Warrior saluted the fans on all sides of the ring, but before he could leave...

xQdiimQ.jpg

...a huge man in a demonic mask walked deliberately down the aisle, taking up position at the foot of the aisle.

Dangerously:
Who’s that? And why don’t I have his number?

As Warrior stared in confusion, the monstrous figure spread his arms wide, thick smoke billowing from the mask.

Ross:
Oh my!

Recognising the newcomer as a challenger, Warrior stepped back to give him space to enter the ring. Removing the heavy mask-

ZRduAZP.jpg

-the invader climbed through the ropes and stood almost nose to nose with the Warrior.

Ross:
He must be 420, 440 pounds!

Dangerously:
I know him! He’s been in Japan, destroying any wrestler who climbed in the ring with him! That’s Big Van Vader!

Without warning Vader swung an arm into Warrior’s face, snapping his head back. Without hesitation he lunged forward, tackling Warrior to the mat and firing in a series of punches to the face. Warrior could barely cover up as the blows rained in, and enough got through that he was left laying on the mat after just a few seconds.

Dangerously:
I don’t think that’s enough for this guy!

Dragging Warrior off the mat, Vader lifted him high into the air before crashing him down with a massive powerbomb. Even that didn’t seem to be enough, as he dragged Warrior by the hair into one corner of the ring and, stepping over him, swiftly climbed onto the second rope before leaping off and crushing Warrior with a corner splash.

Dangerously:
And that
does
seem to be enough.

Ross:
Thank goodness. I never thought I’d see someone manhandle the Warrior like that.

Dangerously:
I know! I have to get Vader my card, my number, hell, I’ll give him my
sister’s
phone number!

Ross:
Classy, Paul... And ladies and gentlemen, whoever this Big Van Vader is... Well, he’s made an impact here, quite frankly!

Dangerously:
No kidding, Ross. I’d say that’s probably six or seven of Warrior’s ribs he’s made a big impact on, at least!

Vader stood in the centre of the ring, Warrior motionless at his feet, and spread his arms wide.

Vader:
No pain! No pain!

Dangerously:
Maybe not for him!

Once order had been restored in the ring, Bret Hart next stepped up to try to Beat The Champ, facing Television champion Ron Simmons after issuing a challenge to him on Main Event. Simmons started the match strongly and seemed to have Hart beaten when he planted him with a massive Spinebuster, but Hart managed to get his foot on the ropes to break the pin. Frustrated, Simmons went back to the well but Hart countered into a knee lift that stunned Simmons, freeing up Hart to go to work, methodically working Simmons over and weakening his legs before trapping him in the centre of the ring.

Ross:
Scorpion Deathlock! And Simmons is holding out as long as he can, trying to reach the ropes, but I don’t think he can... Simmons submits!

Dangerously:
Sharpshooter, Ross, get it right! And we have a new champion!

Hart accepted his new title belt with a look of satisfaction and relief, before signalling for a microphone.

Hart:
My first major singles title... hard-earned, and a long, long time coming.

He stared at the silver faceplate for a long moment.

Hart:
It feels good, but it’s only the beginning. Anyone who wants to come after me, you need to know that I’m going for five straight wins with this title. I want the chance to move up, but I know that a lot of people still have questions for me.

Hart:
So here’s what I’m going to do: You want to try and Beat The Champ? Your challenge is accepted. You think you can take me down? I welcome the attempt – and to show I’m a man of my word, to show I can live up to calling myself the Excellence Of Execution, you name the stipulation. I’ll meet you in your choice of match to show I can fight anyone, and
beat
anyone, any time, any place.

Ross:
Bold words from Bret Hart!

Dangerously:
Handing an advantage like that to your challengers? That’s not just bold, Ross, that’s insane!

Backstage, and Sting’s team were completing their final preparations ahead of the main event. Nikita Koloff stood with the team, wishing them luck as they left. Koloff was left alone in the dressing room...

...until Cactus Jack emerged from the shadows, making Koloff start.

Cactus:
We’re not done, Nicky. Not by a long, long shot! Bang bang!

As Koloff was left wondering at what Cactus Jack may have in mind, Madusa could be found in the ring for her first pay-per-view defence of the NWA Women’s title. She lined up against youngster Harley Saito, who put in a valiant effort but couldn’t match up to the Dangerous Alliance’s female representative, falling to a Bridging German Suplex.

Dangerously:
And that’s just the start of Madusa bringing home the winners’ share of the purse tonight, Ross.

Backstage, and Ric Flair was taping up his wrists ahead of the Six Man title match later on. Michael Hayes and Magnum TA were with the Nature Boy, sharing a few moments with their fellow veteran – something not missed by Shawn Michaels, Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas, who gatecrashed the conversation to toss a few barbs at Flair, suggesting Magnum might be a better choice for the Thrillseekers to tag with.

Michaels:
But not Hayes. Oh, maybe you’ve got some tricks, old timer, but do you really think you could keep up with us?

The focus now turned to the ring and the I Quit match between former York Foundation members. When Terence Taylor and Thomas Rich clashed a month ago, Rich snuck the victory in rather unchivalrous manner, using Alexandra York to ambush Taylor. In this match York stayed on the entrance ramp, close enough to feed Taylor advice from her laptop, but far enough away to avoid Rich if he made a move towards her. That freed Taylor up to focus on Rich, to the detriment of the former World champion as he found himself being beaten from pillar to post by his former ally. Taylor was clearly in no mood to show mercy to Rich, but Rich retaliated with a low blow – perfectly legal under I Quit rules – before pummelling Taylor about the head with his fists.

The fight spilled through the ropes and around the ring, with Taylor dashing Rich against the guard rail while Rich retaliated by hurling Taylor against the ringpost again. Back in the ring, however, Taylor couldn’t be pinned this time and wouldn’t surrender, ignoring the referee’s enquiry and punching with his one good arm and driving Rich back, before delivering a hard back fist that left Rich down on the mat. Taylor rolled out of the ring and found York waiting, having retrieved a steel chair from ringside. She handed it to him with a nod, and he slid it into the ring before re-entering and grabbing Rich. Even with only one good arm, Taylor was able to lift Rich up for a piledriver, and stood there with Rich’s head poised precariously over the steel chair as the referee checked on Rich. Seeing his doom just below him, Rich bellowed his surrender rather than face a piledriver onto the steel chair.

With Rich vanquished, Taylor snatched the microphone as York joined him in the ring.

Taylor
:
Alexandra’s algorithms are in a perpetual march towards perfection. Every day, we get closer to the ultimate equation, every day we get closer to guaranteeing victory... Tonight, I forced a former World champion to give up rather than go to the lengths I’m capable and willing to go to. Think about that, before you cross the York Foundation!

The focus turned to the ring where Ric Flair and the Thrillseekers challenged the Diamond Exchange for the Six Man titles. The Exchange certainly seemed to have the numbers advantage, with Diamond Dallas Page and Kimblery on the outside, as well as the size advantage with Diamond Studd and Vinnie Vegas together weighing almost as much as their opponents. However, even with all that in their favour the Exchange couldn’t find a way to counter the Nature Boy’s ring savvy. Flair always found a way to disrupt their opponents, exploiting the speed and technical ability of Lance Storm and Chris Jericho and inserting himself into the match whenever he judged he could do the most damage. Growing increasingly frustrated, the champions lost cohesion, a slippage only exacerbated by Flair’s constant needling and sly shots – whether or not he was the legal man. Eventually Studd lost his cool completely and began arguing at the referee, but that just put the official in the perfect position to drop and count the pin as Flair rolled Studd up from behind – with, admittedly, his feet on the ropes!

As Studd and the other members of his team barked at the referee, Flair dived to the outside of the ring and grabbed the three title belts, hoisting them overhead with a look of sheer joy on his face, soaking in the fans’ cheers and applause as Jericho and Storm looked on, perhaps wondering when they might get to lay hands on their first WCW title belts!

Dangerously:
Disgusting tactics, Ross! What do you call that?

Ross:
I’d probably call that Flair being Flair, Paul.

The camera cut away from the celebrations to a darkened room where the man in the demonic mask – Big Van Vader – loomed large in the camera lens.

???:
Big Van Vader, the greatest super heavyweight in the modern world. The most terrifying, the most powerful, the most menacing competitor in wrestling today.

Harley Race stepped into view, walking around Vader’s hulking frame.

Race:
And the centrepiece of my stable, my
kingdom
, of monsters.

Race:
I know what it takes to be great in this business. No-one before me came close. No-one after me has had that same killer instinct... until this man.

He slapped the front of Vader’s mask, and a deep laugh seemed to emerge from inside of it.

Race:
We don’t fear any other competitor, any other group, any... madman who might step up and try and take the fight to us. You’ve already lost, because we
are
the fight. And we will decide who loses.

Vader:
World Championship Wrestling... It’s Vader time!

Ross:
Well, that’s one more huge name arriving in WCW and seemingly out to make a name for themselves on the biggest stage available. We’ll see more of Big Van Vader in the coming weeks, I’m sure, but for now our attention must turn to tonight’s main event.

Dangerously:
And that would be my cue to step aside, Ross. While I would normally trust my clients to follow the instructions and guidance I provide over the course of the week, especially with Madusa on hand, this is one night where I
have
to be at ringside. Don’t worry, though, because you’ve got a great replacement to carry you- I mean work with you while the Dangerous Alliance destroys Sting’s little squadron.

Jesse Ventura walked down the aisle and took up Dangerously’s headset, slapping a few fans’ hands along the way.

Ventura:
Ross, good to see you, I figured I ought to sit in on this one, see what these guys do to each other up close and personal.

Ross:
Any concerns, Commissioner, about putting ten of your biggest stars inside this fiendish structure?

Ventura
:
While I’m on the mic, Ross, you can call me Jesse – but no, none at all. This’ll sort the men from the boys... and if I’m right and WCW is lucky then the best we have will go to war, and come out the other side that bit tougher and that bit smarter.

Ross:
And possibly that bit more injured, too.

Ventura
:
You don’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs, Ross.

War Games

Ross:
And to recap the rules for those not familiar, two men will start this match and be inside the cage for five minutes. At the end of those five minutes, one man from one team will enter. Every two minutes from that point members of alternating teams will enter the match until all ten men are in the cage.

Ventura
:
That’s right, and that’s when we have the Match Beyond – until all ten men are in, the match must continue. Only when all ten men are in can this match finish, and only then when one of the ten surrenders. No pins, no disqualifications – submissions only!

The two sides entered as unified groups, the Dangerous Alliance joining Paul E at ringside, and one by one - two by one in Anderson’s case – stacking their titles on the timekeeper’s table. Only Hart and Pillman were empty-handed, but they looked focused and hungry nevertheless, all the more so as Sting’s team made their entrance and the two sides stared one another down in a tense moment as Savage and Steiner added their own belts to the pile.

Ross:
So much gold, I hope that table’s reinforced.

Ventura
:
Nothing but the best in WCW, Ross.

Referees stationed around the cage hurried to get between the two sides, with Sting’s team forced to back away and take up their place on the opposite side of the two caged rings. Austin and Pillman laughed and waved them off, before turning their attention to the sheets of paper that Dangerously had produced, taking on last minute instructions from their leader.

Ross:
And now we’ll see who’s been chosen to enter the cage first. Stepping up for Sting’s team is... Randy Savage!

dTwyCdw.jpg

Ventura
:
They’ve called an audible there; Do you think Barry Windham would have been the first man in for his team?

Ross:
And joining Savage in the ring from the Dangerous Alliance is... Steve Austin!

8pRFZsl.jpg

Ventura
:
That’s huge, Ross! Dangerously obviously has a lot of faith in Austin if he’s prepared to send him in for the whole duration of the match. Austin and Savage will be in there alone for five minutes before a member of one of the teams enters, and then every two minutes after that someone else will join them... but what a huge opportunity for Austin in particular!

Ross:
I know you’re impressed by Steve Austin, Jesse.

Ventura
:
You’re absolutely right, the kid has great potential, Ross, and if he’s managed correctly he could be a big star. Would I have sent him into War Games first? No – but I’m not Paul E. Dangerously, and maybe he knows something that I don’t.

The cage doors were closed and locked behind Savage and Austin as the bell rang. Savage, breathing hard, pointed across the centre of the two rings at Austin, who looked about the inside of the cage slowly, grabbing one section of the wire fence and pulling on it carefully, gauging its feel. Savage, losing patience, seized on the distraction to climb between the ropes and level Austin with a hard blow to the back, staggering him, before grabbing the back of his head and running him into the steel cage.

Ventura
:
And that’s why I woulda started with Anderson or Rude – Austin has no experience of War Games, but he’s learning real fast!

Recovering from the initial onslaught from Savage, Austin was able to slow him by raking his eyes. Savage staggered backwards, and Austin clotheslined him over the ropes separating the two rings. As he tried to gather his wits, Austin dropkicked him, sending him bouncing back and forth between the two sets of ropes.

Ventura
:
That’s something you can’t do outside of War Games!

Grabbing Savage’s head, Austin dropped to the mat, snapping Savage’s neck over the top rope. As Savage hung on the rope, Austin delivered a boot to the side of his head.

Ross:
We’re coming up on five minutes. I wonder which side will get the advantage?

Ventura
:
You’ll find out... now!

2ytkyaJ.jpg

As a buzzer sounded, the referee standing with the Dangerous Alliance unlocked their cage door, and Brian Pillman entered the cage. High-fiving Austin, he lifted himself up onto the second rope and delivered a dropkick to Savage as he hung on the ropes.

Ross:
And this is big for the Alliance. Pillman’s been in War Games. He may not remember much of it, but he’s been in there – and you know, Savage has had cage matches, but this is his first time in War Games!

Pillman and Austin dragged Savage out from the ropes and lifted him up with a double suplex. As Savage went over, his feet grazed the roof of the cage, the low ceiling of which Ross noted would limit any airborne attacks by the faster members of the teams.

Ventura
:
And look at Sting’s team – only Steamboat goes to the air much, but Hart and Pillman could be slowed down a lot by the roof on the cage.

Savage weathered the assault from his two opponents, at one point bursting out of the corner to level both men with a double clothesline. That bought him a few seconds to regain his wits, but Pillman recovered quickly to land a legdrop across the back of Savage’s head. As Austin recovered a little more slowly, Pillman pulled Savage upright and seemed to be setting him up for a DDT, with Savage trying to block the move, as the buzzer went again.

c2itg9U.jpg

The referee could barely get the door open before Scott Steiner launched himself into the fray, peppering Pillman with a series of right hands that left him reeling before hurling himself at Steve Austin, bearing the other man to the ground. Steiner fired in right hand after right hand, slow, methodical, crushing blows that snapped Austin’s head around time and time again until he lay unresisting on the mat.

Ross:
Steiner hasn’t forgiven Austin for what he did to his brother; Austin may wish he’d waited until the end to get involved!

On the far side of the ring Dangerously and his clients watched on in concern as Steiner hurled Austin into the ropes, levelling him with a huge Frankensteiner as he rebounded. Austin barely had time to catch his breath before Steiner hauled him upright and delivered a thunderous belly-to-belly suplex. As Savage worked on Pillman, Steiner crossed the cage to glare down at the remaining members of the Alliance on the outside, most obviously at Rick Rude who he yelled at to enter next.

Ventura
:
He’s asking for trouble.

Ross:
Maybe not, Jesse! Austin’s down, so even when the next member of the Alliance comes in, it could only make it two on two!

Steiner turned his attention to Savage and Pillman, grabbing Flyin’ Brian and hurling him overhead with a belly-to-back suplex. The WCW tag champions attacked Pillman together, showing their developing teamwork as they worked him over with a series of double-team moves, only interrupted when Austin managed to pull Pillman clear, the pair retreating to the second ring as the buzzer sounded...

lcGavxb.jpg

...and Rick Rude did indeed enter the ring, joining his younger allies and staring across the ring ropes at Savage and Steiner. The champions seemingly took this as a challenge in its own right, climbing through the ropes to charge together at the opposing trio. The numbers advantage disappeared immediately as Steiner met Austin with a hard right hand that snapped his head back, sending blood flying from his nose as he hit the mat. Meanwhile, Savage tackled Rude as Pillman met the diverted Steiner with a thrust kick.

Ventura
:
That’s the beauty of War Games, Ross. Every few minutes, you’ve gotta adapt your strategy and maybe even make something up on the fly. Do you want to bet that Sting’s strategy is reacting to Dangerously’s over who goes in next? And Dangerously is probably changing things as we go, too. Was Pillman supposed to go in second? Why not Rude, or Anderson? Did Dangerously see something that made him want speed in that ring right at that moment? It seems like he made the right call, though. Pillman’s been in the zone since he came in.

Savage and Rude hammered each other with punches in the centre of their ring as Pillman laid into Steiner, hitting his much larger opponent as fast as he could. Steiner swung at Pillman, but the Alliance man deftly avoided his strikes, always managing to be where Steiner’s fists were not as he bobbed and weaved. Pillman got behind Steiner and delivered a dropkick to the back of his head, sending him staggering forward as Austin rose from the matt and levelled Steiner with a clothesline.

As Austin worked over Steiner with a chinlock, Pillman hurried to help Rude, who was having his face ground into the steel cage wall by Savage. Pillman pulled Savage away, but was met by a big clothesline in turn. As Savage turned his attention back to Rude, the World champion thumbed him in the eye, before punishing the Macho Man with an atomic drop.

Ventura
:
Well, that’ll put a crimp in Elizabeth’s plans for this weekend!

Ross:
Will you stop!

Together Pillman and Rude seized Savage and hurled him into the cage wall. Savage dropped to the mat, bleeding from the forehead after the impact. Rude stayed on him as Pillman turned to face Sting’s team as the buzzer sounded...

...and Ricky Steamboat entered the ring, tackling Austin to keep him away from Steiner, but immediately finding himself at the disadvantage of both Austin and Pillman focusing on him. Steamboat, however, is a hugely experienced competitor and kept both men on the back foot as he chopped and punched them, buying Steiner time to recover.

Steamboat skittled both Austin and Pillman with short-arm clotheslines before climbing through the ropes to pull Rude off Savage. Steiner, back on his feet, met Austin with a big Steinerline that turned the Texan upside down and dropped him back to the mat. Pillman was pressed overhead in a show of strength that had the fans on their feet before Steiner threw him on top of his teammate. Steiner crossed to the other ring and joined Steamboat in double-teaming Rude, locking him in a bearhug as Steamboat climbed to the second turnbuckle and leapt off with a clothesline.

Ross:
Steiner’s got his second wind, and the Alliance are paying for it!

The buzzer sounded once more...

BiyIlky.jpg

...and Arn Anderson was noticeably reluctant to enter the cage. With Steiner, Savage and Steamboat all waiting for him, and his teammates down and hurting, Anderson stalled as long as he could, verging on entering the ring before backing away once, twice, three times before Scott Steiner rushed over to that corner of the cage and dragged him in.

Ventura
:
Well, Steiner just got even angrier. I’m not sure that was great strategy- Hey, where’s Madusa gone?

As Steiner clubbed Anderson in one corner, Savage and Steamboat turned their attention to Rude and Austin, with Savage trying to piledrive the World champion. Rude resisted, once, twice, before backdropping Savage to escape, but the effort took it out of him and as he staggered away from the Macho Man Steiner diverted his attention from Anderson for a moment to deliver a Steinerline that dropped Rude once more.

Ventura
:
Huge move from Steiner! This ain’t settled between them!

Ross:
And, of course, this match can only end by submission... So, as Commissioner, how would you view the winner if they forced
Rick Rude
to submit?

Ventura
:
Well, Rude still has to defend his World title this Saturday night, Ross. Maybe if that happened, the guy who made the World champion quit might be in with another chance to do it again!

For the sixth time the buzzer sounded...

vqHKs8o.jpg

...and the crowd erupted as Sting stepped up to the cage door, showing absolutely no hesitation in putting himself forward for his team.

Ventura
:
Saving the big gun until late on, I can understand that! But look at who’s left outside for both teams – Hart and Rhodes! Both teams kept their youngest member ‘til the end. Is that trying to minimise the risk of their lack of experience, or trying to make the most of their energy when others will have been in the cage for fifteen, twenty minutes?

Anderson had managed to tear himself free of Steiner with a low blow, and used the break to hurl the tag champion into the steel cage. The impact opened a cut over Steiner’s brow, and the savvy Anderson zeroed in on it immediately, not just punching it, but raking Steiner along the top rope.

Ross:
It may not seem like much, but any cut will weaken you in a fight, especially with the adrenaline racing and your heart pounding. And a cut over the eye can blind you, simple as that- Oh!

Steamboat had leapt off the top rope, rocking Rude with a forearm smash. As he leapt to his feet, however, Pillman jumped him from behind with a scissors kick that smashed Steamboat face-first into the mat. Pillman grabbed the back of his head and pulled him back on his haunches, showing blood spilling from Steamboat’s nose, a problem only compounded by Pillman’s forearm smashes across his face.

Ventura
:
It was first blood to Sting’s team, but second, third and fourth blood to the Alliance!

Anderson had dropped Steiner to the mat and moved into the space between the two rings, seemingly for a chance to catch his breath. As he watched Rude tangle with Sting, however, he stamped his foot on the ring apron and with a cold smile reached down to retrieve the steel chair that was being pushed through the seam between the two rings.

Ross:
Is that-

Ventura
:
That’s brilliant is what that is, Ross! There’s a roof and walls on this cage, but Dangerously and Madusa still found a way in! Brilliant!

Anderson stepped through the ropes and delivered a crushing blow to Sting’s back with the chair, as Madusa reappeared from under the ring.

Ventura
:
You have to hand it to them, Ross.

Ross:
I think Madusa may have handed it to them, Jesse!

Reinforced with the chair, the Alliance were able to deliver a heavy beating to their teammates even before the buzzer sounded once more...

on556lI.jpg

...and Owen Hart entered the ring, sauntering through the door with a smile on his face as he grabbed Steamboat and applied a camel clutch.

Ross:
No submissions, not yet, but this can definitely hurt the Dragon!

Ventura
:
Hurt him! If he can’t get himself out, then he could be out cold from the pain inside a minute!

Hart held onto the hold until Steamboat hung limp in his arms, seemingly unable to continue. Savage, Steiner and Sting had regrouped in the other ring, but now found themselves facing a five-on-three disadvantage as Austin, chair in hand, led the Alliance through the ropes. Sting, the freshest of the three, stepped forwards in front of his wounded teammates, but all that achieved was earning him the first chairshot to the gut. Barely breaking stride, Anderson delivered a big DDT to the opposing captain as the Alliance closed ranks on Savage and Steiner, barely even needing the chair as they beat the World tag champions to the mat...

...and then the buzzer sounded for the final time. The five members of the Dangerous Alliance turned to look at the opposing team’s corner, their gaze falling on the sole remaining member of the opposing team, Dustin Rhodes.

yVAviz6.jpg

Ross:
Just twenty-three years old, he’s proven himself to be a fast learner, a two-time Television champion already, but this is a big, big ask even for a veteran.

Ventura
:
And maybe Sting’s team shouldn’t have left the rookie ‘til last, Ross.

Rhodes picked up a microphone as he stared back at the Alliance.

Rhodes
:
Five-on-one, those don’t look like great odds to me. And the American Dream didn’t raise any idiots.

He turned away from the cage door, sparking laughter from the Alliance at his apparent refusal to enter the ring. The crowd seemed stunned, and a few boos rang out as Rhodes walked away – only for him to reach under the ring apron and pull out something from underneath the ring!

Ventura
:
That’s a branding iron!

Rhodes
:
The American Dream didn’t raise any quitters, either!

Rhodes tossed the microphone aside and the crowd erupted once more as he charged into the ring, dashing the chair from Austin’s hands with a swipe of his own weapon and drilling the butt of it into Austin’s forehead. Austin dropped to the mat, blood spilling freely across his face as Rhodes swung at Rude and Pillman, making them jump back as Hart and Anderson retreated to the other ring.

Ventura
:
And with Rhodes in the ring, we’ve entered the match beyond!

Ross:
And the match can now end at any time via submission, and with four men bleeding already it really could be any time.

Ventura
:
Make that five, Ross! Rude just got too close to that branding iron!

Indeed, the World champion had caught the branding iron right between the eyes, opening up a gash across the bridge of his nose that drew Rhodes onwards like a shark, and while that could have left him open to Pillman, Flyin’ Brian hadn’t noticed Steiner rising from the mat like some bloodstained avenging angel, hurling Pillman overhead and into the cage wall with astonishing force.

Ventura
:
That’s six!

Rhodes’ armed rampage had given his teammates enough time to gather at least some of their wits, and Sting had ambushed Anderson, trying to turn him over into the Scorpion Deathlock. Anderson escaped with a thumb to the eyes, but he was met by Steamboat who caught him with an atomic drop before opening up on him with a flurry of chops, then whipping him into Hart, crushing the youngster member of the Dangerous Alliance against the turnbuckles. Steamboat then grabbed Sting and whipped him across the ring, adding to his momentum as he followed in with a Stinger Splash.

Ross:
Big move! But it’s not going to make Anderson submit!

Ventura
:
Hart’s not looking too great, though!

As Anderson dropped to the mat, Steamboat and Sting seized Hart and together they pressed him overhead, before throwing him into the other ring. Steiner caught him out of midair and delivered a huge German suplex. Rude was able to escape Rhodes long enough to level Steiner with a clothesline before he could capitalise, but Savage stopped the World champion with a double axehandle from the second rope that caught Rude between the eyes.

Ventura
:
Now the tables have turned!

Austin was the last member of the Alliance left standing, looking around him in horror as he realised the situation he’d found himself in, especially as Savage picked up the discarded chair and banged it on the mat, signalling his attention.

Ventura
:
And Austin was the first of all of them to be busted open. I wonder how much that blood loss is costing him right now?

Austin backed off, hands up, beseeching his opponents for mercy, turning first to one, then another, finding none anywhere he looked. Steiner led off, charging forwards and crashing into Austin with a huge Steinerline. Sting had to divert his attention to Anderson, but the others formed a circle around Austin as they took turns taking shots.

Ross:
So many months suffering at the hands of the Dangerous Alliance, and finally Sting and his teammates get to deliver their comeuppance!

Ventura
:
Yeah, but they need to make someone submit! Austin is Texas tough, Ross, he can hold out until Pillman or Rude or whoever gets their second wind!

Before that could happen, however, Savage diverted his attention to Rude while Rhodes wrapped one of Pillman’s arms up in the ring ropes, trapping him in place. As the crowd realised that Pillman was unable to escape and Rhodes still had the branding iron, they cheered even louder at the thought of Rhodes avenging his fallen friend, Barry Windham.

Ventura
:
What kind of man did Dusty Rhodes raise, Ross? Is he going to maim a helpless man?

Ross:
You don’t seem too worried about the possibility, Jesse.

Ventura
:
Intrigued, Ross. I’m intrigued.

Rhodes wound up to strike, but as he did so Hart managed to grab the branding iron, sparking a tug of war between the pair. Steamboat crossed the ring to help his teammate as Pillman managed to pull himself free.

Ross:
And the balance tips again – look at Rude and Savage!

The World and tag champions were exchanging blows in the area between the two rings, too engulfed in their private war to think of finding someplace with more space. Anderson, too, had recovered somewhat and was grinding Sting’s face into the cage wall, before staring in apparent satisfaction at his bloody handiwork. With Sting weakened, Anderson laced his arms up into a sleeperhold and looked around with a smile as he realised that they were along in their ring, and none of Sting’s teammates had even noticed that their captain was in peril...

...although in Scott Steiner’s case this was because he’d driven Austin into the mat with a Steiner Screwdriver and hooked Austin’s arms over his legs, sitting back with a camel clutch.

Ventura
:
Who can hold out! Is Sting going to sell his team down the river? Can Austin hold out and really make a name for himself?

Pillman seemed to realise that Austin was in trouble and lunged at Steiner, but Steamboat intercepted him with a savate kick to the jaw that dropped him to the mat.

Savage, meanwhile, realised that Sting might be about to submit and tried to escape Rude only for the World champion to grab him and try and level him with a Rude Awakening. However, Savage managed to grab enough of Rude that they fell together, slamming into the adjacent ring aprons.

Ventura
:
The hardest part of the ring! We won’t be seeing either of them move for a while, Ross!

As Rhodes and Steamboat fought with the Calgary Connection, Steiner sat back still further on his camel clutch. Sting, perhaps seeing his teammate’s advantageous position, summoned a last burst of energy to get underneath Anderson, dropping to his knees and stunning Anderson with a jawbreaker that sent him reeling across the ring as Sting sagged, spent, on the ropes...

...and Austin, exhausted, exsanguinated and spent, surrendered, the pain and exhaustion too much for him at last.

The bell rang, and the crowd’s roar seemed to grow yet louder, and still, even above that, could be heard Steiner’s voice.

Steiner:
That was for my brother, you son of a bitch!

Steiner released Austin several seconds after the bell had rung, and joined his teammates as they slowly gathered in the centre of one ring, the cage raising to reveal them in their full, blood-stained state. Only Rhodes among the winning team had avoided being cut open, while Anderson and Hart had escaped that punishment among the Dangerous Alliance.

Ross:
What a contest! Sting’s team emerges triumphant, but you’d be hard pressed to tell it!

Ventura
:
You’ve got that right, Ross. These ten men went to war, and they know it!

Ross:
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us for WrestleWar ’92! We’ll be back on Saturday Night, and there’ll be titles on the line as Arn Anderson defends the United States title-

Ventura
:
-and Rick Rude defends the World title!

Ross:
Be sure to join us!

Winners: Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Scott Steiner, Randy Savage and Dustin Rhodes (A)
