August 1994, Week 3

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/raw.jpg

WWF Monday Night Raw

  • The show opens with a replay of earlier this year when Jeff Jarrett dressed up as Doink in order to humiliate Dink on Superstars. Doink finally can get retribution tonight on Monday Night Raw! (D+)
  • Our feature match is up first as Doink the Clown takes on Jeff Jarrett. The match is evenly contested, however some strange music begins to play over the arena…

    <iframe width="200" height="113" src="

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/6X6iUEmGD-k?rel=0&showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Vince and Randy have no idea what it means, but Doink seems to know what is going on. Doink is looks more than a little bit afraid and confused, looking around the arena for something, just as Jarrett rolls Doink up and picks up the victory! © So this new Evil Clown has emerged… and his gimmick is rated Above Average.

  • Jim Ross has an interview with The 1-2-3 Kid. Kid says that he has a lot of respect for Bret Hart, and that’s why he has taken it personal the way that Bob Backlund has been acting. Backlund and Kid have a match set up for next week on Raw, so he hopes to bring out the man who respectfully wore the WWF title so many years ago. © Ross performed poorly.
  • Pierre has a match against a local talent, in which Pierre easily wins via the Cannonball at 3:25. (C-) There was pretty good chemistry shown here between Pierre and The Maestro.
  • Another vignette airs featuring Abe “Knuckleball” Schwartz, where he advertises that the WWF never goes on strike, talking to a young child at a baseball park. (E+)
  • In a WWF Women’s championship match, Misty Blue takes on champion Alundra Blayze. Partway through the bout, Bull Nakano appears at the top of the ramp, but that doesn’t keep Alundra from being able to retain her title with the German suplex in 6:34. (D)
  • The match over, Nakano hits the ring, and she viciously assaults both women, leaving them both laid out on the mat. “That is one scary thing! I don’t know if I can call her a woman!” says Savage. (C-)
  • Summerslam Report: Todd Pettengill runs down the card, promoting that it can only be seen on pay-per-view in just over a week. ©
  • The Smoking Gunns are in action for our main event of the evening, but they find tough competition in Irwin R. Schyster and Bam Bam Bigelow. With “The Million Dollar Man” at ringside, it’s a three on one bout; DiBiase trips Billy as he hit the ropes to lead up to Bigelow hitting a ring-shaking powerslam for the pinfall at 8:05. (B-)
  • DiBiase tells his clients to continue the assault, but out of the back rushes Lex Luger! Luger tells Bigelow and IRS to leave Bart and Billy alone, just as Tatanka walks to the ring. Once the Million Dollar Corporation members have gone toward the aisle, Tatanka gets in Luger’s face, telling him that “his kind” isn’t needed out here! Lex shakes his head and leaves… but wait, is he following the Corporation out of the arena? (C+) Ted’s performance was good. Bigelow looked good, and Luger came across well.
  • Vince McMahon and Randy Savage close the show by talking about what is coming up next week; namely, there will be a match featuring Ted DiBiase’s Undertaker, The 1-2-3 Kid looks to put Bob Backlund right in the head, and Vince will play host to a face to face meeting only six days before Summerslam between Owen and Bret Hart! (C+) Savage was a real star here.

Rockin’ Rebel w/Jason vs. Tommy Dreamer

Jason tries to help his client to victory, but “The NWA Rookie of the Year” Dreamer fights back with hot white meat babyface fire and wins after a DDT in 6:30. (C+) This match started the show strong. Tommy really came out of it looking good.

Tommy gets a microphone after the match, and says that Shane Douglas is doing it again, signing another match tonight knowing that Dreamer would be on the card so that he can duck Dreamer again! (C+)

Coming up next week on Eastern Championship Wrestling! If you were in Philadelphia on Saturday night, August 13th at the ECW Arena, you saw the battle of hardcore legends as Terry Funk faced Cactus Jack! Jimmy Snuka is being forced to compete by Hunter Q. Robbins against a hand-picked bounty hunter! Jason must finally put his money where his mouth is and faces Mikey Whipwreck for the ECW Television title! The Public Enemy will defend their titles against the Bruise Brothers in a wild tornado match! And The Tazmaniac will find a mystery partner to take on the Pitbulls! And also a huge announcement from Paul E. and commissioner Tod Gordon! And next week, everyone who was not able to make it will see the action! ©

Chad Austin w/Jason vs. The Tazmaniac

Austin is game, but he runs into a brick wall called The Tazmaniac. Chad gets distracted by playing to the fans once too often and “Taz” pins him in 2:52 after an exploder suplex. (C-)

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/ecwbump0.png

In front of the ECW banner, Jason is standing with his Pitbulls. Jason says that next week, everyone will see his Pitbulls victorious once again over “the monkey boy” and whatever partner he grunts at this month, as well as Jason’s “gorgeous” waist adorned with Mikey Whipwreck’s pride as he takes the Television championship from him! ©

The Pitbulls w/Jason vs. Phi Delta Slam

To put it mildly, the frat boys stand no chance. Pitbull #2 hits the SuperBomb on Bruno for the pinfall in 5:40. © The crowd cheered the SuperBomb a lot because they aren’t into Bruno.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/ecw/tazmaniac.jpg

The Pitbulls are celebrating their dominant win, but The Tazmaniac has other plans, as he slips in behind the Pitbulls’ backs and locks Jason in a choke! The Pitbulls finally hear him squealing for them, just as “Taz” retreats! Maybe he’s not the stupid animal that Jason thinks he is! (C+)

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/ecw/joeystyles-s.jpg

Joey Styles hosts Hype Central, where he talks about the matches that you will get to see next week! Jimmy Snuka is made to fight by Hunter Q. Robbins! Mikey Whipwreck defends the ECW Television title against Jason! And the Public Enemy have the fight of their lives against the Bruise Brothers! (C-)

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/ecwbump0.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/ecw/paule.jpg

Paul E. Dangerously takes some time to address the viewing audience regarding Sabu and 911. He says that they aren’t nearly as directionless as it may seem now that Sabu lost the “Battle for the Future” at Heatwave last month, let alone 911 now that he had the joy of chokeslamming Mr. Hughes. Paul says that he has some big plans for his men in the very near future, but you won’t see what that plan is unless you were in the ECW Arena on Saturday night August the 13th. Did it involve Cactus Jack or Terry Funk? Does it involve Shane Douglas? Does it involve the NWA World title? Or is it something else so smooth and diabolical that only this mind can come up with? You’ll all find out very soon. (C+)

ECW Heavyweight Championship

“The Franchise” Shane Douglas w/Mr. Hughes vs. Axl Rotten

Axl puts up a very strong fight when it’s a fist fight, but Douglas pulls Axl into a wrestling match, and in that the champion has few equals. Shane retains his title with a belly to belly suplex at 9:03. © Axl was off his game, but he and Shane showed some great chemistry.

Douglas gets a microphone post-match and says that he doesn’t like being called a coward; he says that he just defeated a prime contender for the ECW title, someone who was worthy of a shot – not someone like Tommy Dreamer who just keeps talking and talking without proving anything! Shane says that “some other” champions from around the pro wrestling world may duck challenges like the ones he has sent out, but he will never duck a “worthy” contender! (C+)

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/ecw/tommydreamer.jpg

Tommy is incensed at those words, and he rushes the ring! Mr. Hughes ends up getting caught up in security officials and cannot save “The Franchise” and so Douglas and Dreamer brawl in the ring as the show comes to a close! (C+)

WCW Saturday Night

  • The show begins right in the ring with action as Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat takes on Joe Malenko. Malenko matches Steamboat in all ways but fan support, and Ricky rides that wave of momentum to a win via flying bodypress in 6:50. © Ricky and Joe didn’t click.
  • Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and “Mean” Gene Okerlund take a few minutes to discuss our featured match tonight, as Hulk Hogan is set to face “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff – but the looming shadow of Kamala hangs over the evening. “The Brain” points out that the shadow of Clash of the Champions and Ric Flair is even larger. (B-)
  • Gene Okerlund brings out “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart to ringside, who says that he knows that he has Paul Orndorff tonight, but he can’t shake the look in the eyes of “The Brother” last week after he was attacked by “that big, nasty savage” Kamala. Gene notes that Kamala is a “world champion caliber athlete” and the three are suddenly joined by a very star struck Dave Sullivan. “Evad” stammers around introducing himself to “The Hulkster” before saying that if Hulk will let him, he will face Paul Orndorff tonight so that Hogan can take on Kamala! Hulk and Jimmy say that they’ll all go talk to Nick Bockwinkel right now, brother! (B-) Hogan did a masterful job of improvising with the crowd, his performance was fantastic. Gene and Dave both improvised well.

  • “His Lordship” is joined at ringside by Eric Bischoff, where Regal says that he watched WCW Worldwide to see that Brian Armstrong brought in Sgt. Craig Pittman to watch for Regal and Sir William; but Regal says it doesn’t matter, because he will show that he is the better man of all Americans! (C-)
  • “Mean” Gene brings Nick Bockwinkel to the interview area, where Nick says that he has allowed the restructuring of our featured matches this evening. Now we will see Paul Orndorff square off against Dave Sullivan and Hulk Hogan will take on Kamala! Bockwinkel does take a moment to point out that, despite Kamala being “world champion caliber” he has not earned a shot at the World championship and thus it is a non-title match. (C+)
  • Pre-taped Gene Okerlund brings us the Clash of the Champions Special Report, where he goes over the card but has words from first Ricky Steamboat, who says that in a two out of three falls situation, there’s no way Steve Austin can cheat him out of the title. Then we hear from Stunning Steve Austin, where the United States champion gives a rebuttal that he doesn’t have to cheat to retain his title against Steamboat because he will be “The Dragon Slayer” in two straight falls because Ricky is the past and Austin is the future of professional wrestling! (B) Austin looked good, and improvised well.
  • Hulk Hogan joins us back in his locker room before a break, where he thanks Nick Bockwinkel for the chance to defend his “best friend to the end” Bruti by taking on the big ugly savage Kamala tonight! WHAT’CHU GONNA DOOOOOOO?!?!? (B+) Hogan improvised well and was a real star in this segment.
  • Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan take a moment to fill in fans who may have missed the announcements, so they talk about our new featured matches… with Bobby pointing out that there’s been a lot of talk about Kamala and not a lot about the actual number one contender for the World’s championship, Ric Flair. Tony’s answer to that is that it is time to see the debut of Jean-Paul Lévesque. (C+)
  • However, at the sight of Jumpin’ Joey Maggs waiting for him in the ring, Jean-Paul Lévesque gets a microphone and says that he came to WCW for competition, not for common exhibitions! He says that this match will not happen, and so the WCW fans will have to wait on getting to see the greatness of Jean-Paul Lévesque! (C+)
  • Brad and Brian Armstrong are in action now, taking on Bad Attitude. But Lord Steven Regal makes his presence felt by coming to ringside, and when he nearly gets into a scuffle with Sgt. Pittman, he distracts Brian enough that “Beautiful” Bobby is able to roll him up for a victory at 5:47! (C+)
  • One of our featured bouts is up next as Dave Sullivan steps into the ring with “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff. Paul’s veteran experience keeps him easily in control of this match, but once “Evad” starts getting in control, brother Kevin Sullivan comes out and starts to argue with Dave, asking him what he’s even doing here. While Jimmy Jett is trying to tell Kevin to leave, The Patriot slips into the ring and hits Orndorff with the full nelson slam, and “Evad” is able to splash onto “Mr. Wonderful” to score a big win in 8:22! ©
  • After a break, Gene Okerlund is joined by an irate Pretty Wonderful, who say that it’s a shame that first Hulk Hogan ducks “Mr. Wonderful” and then people are running in on his match. The Patriot claims to have a new partner, and Pretty Wonderful will be at the Clash of the Champions on August 24th to find out who it is! (B-)
  • Shanghai Pierce is out for a fight, but he falls to “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes in 7:09 via the running bulldog. (C+) This match was planned to bring the fans down a little.
  • Dustin is joined in the ring by his father Dusty Rhodes, where “The American Dream” tells people not to worry that he hasn’t been in the ring in awhile; because when he and his son join forces, there will be no power in the Stud Stable, the world, or the universe that can stop the Rhodes Family from coming out on top, baybay! (B)
  • “Mean” Gene is now with The Sullivans. Kevin doesn’t seem too pleased about Dave helping Hulk Hogan and his friends lately, but that isn’t very important to him yet. “Evad” tries to plead his case to his brother, but Kevin tells him to shut up. Kevin keeps his mind off of his brother, saying that he is focused solely on August 24th where he will force Cactus Jack out of WCW forever. (C+)
  • Bunkhouse Buck wastes little time in defeating Mark Starr in 2:45 with a piledriver. (C-) This match also was designed to bring the fans back down.
  • Gary Michael Cappetta gives a long introduction to our World’s Heavyweight champion, “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan! (C+) Gary looked dreadful, but Hulk was a real star here.
  • Our main event is one that features all kinds of wild action as “The Ugandan Giant” Kamala and Hulk Hogan throw caution to the wind and have an intense, personal brawl. The fight spills around the ringside area and back into the ring, but while Kamala has control of the match he begins choking Hogan on the mat. Referee Nick Patrick continually tells him to stop, but when he cannot get the savage to stop, he disqualifies him at 11:55. (B) This match suffered from a lack of selling.
  • This still doesn’t stop him though, as Kamala continues choking Hogan while the bell sounds. But slowly, “The Hulkster” begins coming to his feet! It’s a Hulk Up, and Hogan breaks the choke and starts punching at Kamala! He sends him to the ropes, but Kamala dodges the big boot by rolling out of the ring and running out of the arena! Hulk tells the camera that this isn’t over, because he loves The Brother more than his own brother and so he’ll take care of this big ugly Kamala! But as Hulk begins posing for the fans, Bobby Heenan screams that we have to go to some footage that he’s been sitting on all night! (B+) Hogan came out of this looking excellent.
  • This footage that “The Brain” was talking about gets played, and it features “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair and Sensuous Sherri in one of Flair’s mansion’s common rooms. Flair does the talking, where he says that he knows what Hogan is feeling; his best friend has been beaten up by people who wanted him in the ring many times. However, he hopes that Hogan’s blurry vision through all his tears for his friend hasn’t made his mind go foggy, because on August 24th, “The Nature Boy” is still coming right after the WCW World Heavyweight championship! Bob wrestles fairly for much of the match, but he shoves Kid off the top rope to the guardrail, and then locks him in the Crossface Chickenwing and refuses to release the hold. 1-2-3 Kid ends up with his hand raised due to disqualification at 8:28, but he doesn’t look like much of a winner, as Backlund stares at his hands all the way back to the dressing room (C-)<br /></li><li> Vince McMahon enters the ring to host a face to face interview between <strong>Owen Hart</strong> and the WWF champion <strong>Bret Hart</strong>. The two talk about what their family means to them, but while Bret says it means the world to him to have his family behind him, Owen says that beating Bret will mean growing bigger than his last name. “The King of Harts” reiterates how the family is all behind him this Sunday at Summerslam, which is why he’s invited every member of the family to be at ringside. “The Hitman” says that none of the family are behind Owen, and they will be at Summerslam but only to watch as Bret holds Owen in a submission hold until he cries like they used to back in the dungeon! The brothers go nose to nose, but at Vince’s urging they separate and each leaves the ring without incident. (B+) <em>Bret came across well, though Vince underperformed.</em><br /></li><li> <strong>Doink the Clown</strong> easily dispatches of a local talent in 3:33 via the Whoopie Cushion, looking much better in the ring than he did last week. Doink says that he’s known a lot of people while he has been a clown, but there’s one who was his protege at one time. (D)<br /></li><li> Todd Pettengill and Domino’s present the Summerslam Report, which features a promo from <strong>Shawn Michaels</strong> and <strong>Diesel</strong>, where they say they heard what Ramon said about having backup, but it won’t matter because even without Shawn, Diesel is still a seven foot machine of destruction. It then features a promo from <strong>Razor Ramon</strong>, who talks about how his backup is someone who’s had to sit and watch “The Boy Toy” and his “big mang” cheat their ways to victory all this time and is tired of seeing people get cheated. Ramon says he and his backup are gonna carve them up, and “Da Bad Guy” will take back his machismo. (B) <em>Todd struggled because nobody else in this was scripted, and also looked dreadful. Razor enjoyed being off-script and his performance was good, and Shawn improvised well. (C-)<br /></li><li> <strong>Ted DiBiase</strong> is standing in a graveyard set next to <strong>The Undertaker</strong>. “The Million Dollar Man” talks about bringing The Undertaker to the WWF in 1990 and then bringing him back earlier this year, and says that Paul Bearer is just jealous that when Undertaker wanted to come back, he called DiBiase instead of Bearer. This draws out <strong>Paul Bearer</strong> to the set, who says that DiBiase’s Undertaker is a fraud, a mere apparition compared to the one true Undertaker! DiBiase’s Undertaker grabs Paul by the throat, but the lights go out – <strong><em>DONG</em></strong> – the bell tolls, and when the lights come back on Paul Bearer is in the ring! Paul screams in joy that “He’s back! He is returning! Oh YES!” (B)<br /></li><li> Backstage we see <strong>Bob Backlund</strong>, who appears to be in calm spirits as he walks around asking where 1-2-3 Kid is at. Several staff members are confused, with one finally asking him why he’s looking for him. Bob says that he is ready for their match tonight. (C+)<br /></li><li> Our final Hardcore Heaven Highlight is the main event of the show, as Terry Funk did battle with Cactus Jack. The match spilled all over the arena but ended up having no decisive victory as The Public Enemy, who had successfully retained the ECW Tag titles earlier over The Bruise Brothers, entered into the match and attacked Funk and Jack. In a moment that will live in infamy, during the huge brawl that followed, practically all of the ECW Arena faithful hurled chairs into the ring, literally burying Public Enemy underneath a mountain of steel folding chairs! Ron held a certain amount of control in the bout with some of his high impact offense, but The Guardian Angel rode a wave of fan support after dodging a football tackle attempt to count out Ron’s three strikes and win the match with the spike slam to give the fans a huge cheer to open the show. Johnny seems game, and with Tony and Bobby hyping his boxing past he seems like someone who could potentially win at slugging it out. However, behind Jimmy Jett’s back, Harley holds Badd’s foot on the apron so he can’t perform a dive into the ring, and Vader nearly takes Badd’s head off before hauling him into the ring and dropping on him with the Vader Bomb! Vader picks up the victory in 5:38, but the result may have been different if not for Harley at ringside! Pillman dazzles everyone with his own high flying skills, and despite a brief point when Brian was getting double teamed by Sonny’s team, “Das Wunderkind” lives up to his hype by ducking a karate style kick from Tanaka and leaping to the top rope before leaping off, spinning 180 degrees in the air to crash down with a flying bodypress! Pillman dropkicks Haito to keep him from breaking up the pin in order to allow Wright to pick up the three count at 5:02 in this big debut outing! As the match itself goes, Haito really was off his game tonight. Tanaka brought the best out of himself in this match, while Wright looked a little nervous and struggled to keep up with the three veterans. The Company showed off their great chemistry with double team moves, and each both to have improved their general performance. Tony notes that Alex Wright will be a star to watch, only right here in WCW! ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png</span></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/geneokerlund-s.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/stevenregalwig.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/sirwilliam-s.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> “Mean” Gene Okerlund is in the aisle after a short break, and he says that unfortunately there has had to be a change in the evening’s featured events. He has it on authority that the WCW World Television championship match has had to be canceled. The champion, Lord Steven Regal, emerges from behind the curtain along with Sir William to weigh in on this, saying that for all his big talk, it appears that young Brian Armstrong was really just too afraid to be shown up by the greatest wrestler currently in all of “the colonies”! Regal talks about how Brian made a huge fuss out of his time in the military fighting for his country, but says that maybe the country is better off that he isn’t in the military anymore if he runs from challenges like this! “How like the rest of you Americans,” he says, “running your loud mouths before the fight but turning tail and hiding when it’s time for the battle!” The crowd are booing loudly as Regal runs down their country, until… </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/nickbockwinkel.jpg</span></p><p> WCW commissioner Nick Bockwinkel silently comes out and silences Lord Regal. Bockwinkel says that he apologizes for this confusion, as no one has been able to reach Mr. Armstrong all day, and he is being fined and indefinitely suspended for missing out on this event. Nick says that he would have been okay to simply leave it at that and say that the match would be off the card and that Lord Regal would be allowed to just head on home for his spot of tea and crumpets; that is until he came out and started running down this country that he has personally represented on the national and international scale for years! He tells Regal that a lot of people love this country and don’t appreciate his comments, and so there <em>will</em> be a Television championship match tonight, and this is your opponent!</p><p> </p><p> <iframe width="220" height="124" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sjJho-ZEmJA?rel=0" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/sjJho-ZEmJA?rel=0"</a> frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p> (C+)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/titles/wcwtv.jpg</span></p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/sirwilliam-s.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/stevenregal.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/jimduggan.jpg</span></p><p> <strong>WCW World Television Championship</strong></p><p><strong> Lord Steven Regal w/Sir William vs. “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan</strong></p><p> The surprise of Jim Duggan brings the crowd to their feet with loud chants of “USA! USA! USA!” being levied toward Steven Regal! Bobby Heenan is livid at the commentary table, talking about how unfair this is to Regal, but Tony points out that is Regal really is “the greatest wrestler currently in America” then he should be able to face any competitor at any time, and that includes “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan! Regal tries to lock up and wrestle with Duggan, but Duggan shoves him away and throws big punches that have “his Lordship” on the ropes immediately! Duggan has full control of this match, but the champion sees him readying for the Three Point Stance, and that is when Regal ducks out of the ring. One would think that someone who brags and boasts as much as Regal would just be slowing down the match by stalling, but no; Sir William fetches the TV title and the two take their leave, being counted out by Charles Robinson in 2:55. The match may have been short, but one could easily see that these two don’t really click in the ring. Ricky definitely deserves some big credit for building this match well against Austin, as they get the crowd buzzing with the story they’re telling here. Steamboat dropped the first fall at about the five minute mark when Austin locked in his That’s a Wrap reverse figure four leglock, with Tony noting that it was wise for Ricky to submit the first fall so that he wasn’t punished in the hold too long. It took until into the nine minute mark for “The Dragon” to rally back, “skinning the cat” when Austin tried to throw him over the top rope and earn a disqualification, rushing to the top rope behind “Stunning Steve’s” back and flying off with a cross body, which takes Austin by surprise and scores the three count! With each man feeling exhausted after the grueling pace that they’ve put on thus far. Austin looks like he’s ready to do like Regal did earlier and walk out, but Steamboat will not allow it as he chases Austin down and hurls him back into the ring. Ricky has the title in his sights as he trips Austin to make him land very harshly upon the top turnbuckle when Steve was trying for an aerial move. Steamboat goes to the top looking for a superplex, but Austin counters, landing on top of “The Dragon” to knock the wind out of him and manages to hold onto the cover for the one, two, three! It took him 18:53, but Steve Austin has truly proven himself as “The Dragon Slayer” tonight! With “The Mouth of the South” at his side, Hogan cups his ear to take in the cheers of the Hulkamaniacs in the audience. Gene asks Hulk what he thinks about tonight’s big return bout against “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Hogan says how he is excited about smacking Flair from one side of the arena to the other like he did at Bash at the Beach, but that one thing is on his mind just that little bit more these days, and that’s that big, fat, ugly, smelly Kamala, dude! Hogan tells Gene that ever since his “friend to the end, the brother Brutus” went down, he’s been trying to get some revenge for him while he’s laid up in a hospital room, but apparently it just wasn’t to be so last week on Saturday Night in the ring. So “The Hulkster” is ready to take it to the streets, take it to the jungle, take it wherever he has to in order to get to Kamala, and what’s he gonna do when the greatest power in the universe of all the little Hulkamaniacs runs wild on youuuuuuuu?!? The World Tag Team champions are in a pretty upbeat mood as they gloat about not having to defend their titles tonight, despite WCW wanting them to defend them. Jesse agrees with them wholeheartedly, saying that if there are no qualifying teams in the rankings, then there’s no way they should have to defend the belts. However, he tells them that The Patriot claims to have found a new partner, one who will be better than the last. Roma quips that hopefully the new partner will be more durable, able to take a hit better than the last one. Dusty may be completely “past it” physically by this time of his career, but he still has the popularity and grasp of in-ring psychology to keep the crowd invested in the match. After Parker pulls down the top rope and sends him crashing to the floor, Dustin gets worked on by Arn and Tully. But a mishap between the partners sees them run into one another, and Dustin is able to make a hot, hot tag to Dusty! “The American Dream” gets “funky on the monkeys” like only he can, but before he can make a pin on either of them, Colonel Parker has had enough and sends his bodyguard Meng into the ring to attack Dusty right in front of referee Randy Eller, drawing a blatant disqualification at 8:43. (B-)</p><p> </p><p> Dusty and Dustin fall victim to Meng’s assault, with the bodyguard not even losing his sunglasses as he works the Rhodes family over. When he gets a chance during the ensuing chaos to escape the ring briefly, Dusty finds a wooden chair, which he breaks over Meng’s head – and it still doesn’t faze him! Jesse does ask the question of if Flair had anything to do with the attack earlier, with Ric saying that he has no reason to have someone attack Hulk Hogan for him because he would defeat him in the ring on his own – but it looks like he won’t have to! Ventura says that he’s so glad to see someone out there “making things right” and saving WCW from the red and yellow garbage that is Hulkamania, with Flair agreeing that we need to get back to business, and when Hogan is forced to relinquish the title back to him tonight by forfeit, it’ll be back – to – business, and business is good, Wooo! Kane was off his game, but when you just throw forearms and kicks, I’m not sure how we could tell anyways. The good thing was that Sting and his “mysterious friend” have shown excellent chemistry together, gelling immediately and ending up victorious when Kole gets locked in the Scorpion Deathlock at 5:37 and picks up the victory. He zeroes directly in on Hogan’s left knee, and he punishes it relentlessly. Hogan definitely looks like he’s stepped up his performance for this match, and he keeps trying to come back, but “The Nature Boy” will always go to the leg and get back in control. But “The Immortal” Hulks Up! He starts shaking and getting the adrenaline pumping. He fires some punches toward Flair, sending him to the ropes, but Hogan’s knee buckles when he tries to do the big boot. Flair grabs the leg and locks in the figure four leglock! Hogan cannot muster up the strength to escape no matter what or how he tries, and he rolls over to try to escape. But Flair continues rolling, and they find themselves out of the ring. Ric maintains the pressure, but when Anderson counts to eight, he breaks the hold and gets back into the ring… and Hogan gets counted out, time of the fall at 11:45. The title may not change hands on a count out, but Ric Flair is celebrating like it does, telling Randy to bring him his title. But as the show goes off the air, the camera focuses on Hogan, who is in immense pain on the arena floor. We make note that the Headshrinkers don’t hold the WWF Tag Team championships anymore, losing them to Diesel and Shawn Michaels a night ago at a non-televised event. This six man tag match may not be the most interesting storyline that’s ever been put together, but we gave them all plenty of time to shine in this match and let the story of Harvey helping his guys cheat play out. Fatu gets triple teamed, practically quadruple teamed, in the Wippleman corner, but Dunn is an idiot and tries to slam Fatu’s head into the turnbuckle. That never works on these Samoan boys! Fatu makes the tag to Adam Bomb, who explodes into the ring with a flying clothesline and runs through the opponents, finally finishing this with the Atom Smasher powerbomb on Dunn to pick up the win in 16:34. It’s so strange to see one tag team partner be a good fit with their manager while the other is better off without the same manager, but that’s Well Dunn and Harvey. Regardless, they worked the crowd out there into a decent opening match. ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wwfbump.png</span></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/lordalfredhayes-s.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/owenhart.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/jimneidhart.jpg</span></p><p> Lord Alfred Hayes is backstage in a Coliseum Video Exclusive to talk to the contender for the WWF title tonight, Owen Hart, along with brother in law Jim Neidhart. Hayes brings up “The Anvil” helping Owen to win the King of the Ring, questioning if Owen can win the WWF championship with Neidhart on the outside of a steel cage. “The King of Harts” tells Hayes that he has done everything in his life by himself, and he taught Bret all kinds of things back in the Dungeon, but he knows more than his brother and will do them to him tonight to become the new World Wrestling Federation champion and shatter the shadow of his brother Bret! The segment was short, but Hayes improvised well here, and Owen really did well with the freedom to not be held to a script. He’s come a long way from that ungodly “leg” quote from the Royal Rumble. Bret says that he didn’t want this, but he’s been forced into wrestling his brother, so tonight when they step into the cage, they aren’t family anymore; Owen is just another opponent who needs excellently executed! The women’s storyline may not be all that hot, but they tried to make it as good a match as they could. They both seem to be highly motivated, even though by the end of the match you can see Bull breathing hard because of how hard hitting they made this match for themselves. Alundra nearly picks up the win with the German suplex, but Luna Vachon sneaks out and pulls Bull’s foot through the ropes, forcing referee Jim Korderas to call the fall off. When Blayze turns her attention toward Vachon, but that gives Bull a chance to recover, and she shoves Blayze into the turnbuckles to knock the wind out of her before hitting a maneuver like a leg drop off the turnbuckles to pick up the win at 12:09 and gain the championship! We protected Alundra in this one because she’s the only real women’s contender we have, so we can’t have her looking too bad even if she loses. The crowd were buzzing as they traded big hammering punches and maneuvers, like Diesel choking Razor with his boot in the corner and hitting him with some hard elbows. Randy Savage generally kept Shawn Michaels as a non-factor, which led it to be a fair, one on one match. Razor was really well suited to the brawl that these guys were having, but he was pretty clearly off his game tonight. I took better note during Diesel’s reverse chinlock of how the match drifted once in awhile from move to move rather than have a full, clear flow, but they did a good enough job to keep things going that I won’t be punishing them for it. Ramon showed some improved performance tonight, and he fought back by punching his way out of his situation. Mike Chioda gets bumped to the mat as Diesel charged at Razor, leaving us with no official. Shawn enters the ring and warms up for his superkick, but Randy pulls him out of the way, leading to Michaels nailing Diesel instead! The brothers seem back on the same page at the Royal Rumble, until Owen assaulted Bret by kicking his injured leg. Owen then wins their first encounter at WrestleMania X, before Bret wins the WWF title later that evening. The brothers slowly build the match well, as we told them to make a spectacle of it. True to his word earlier, Bret wrestles as if it is just another opponent rather than his blood, at least until Owen starts screaming while in a submission maneuver, and Bret releases him – which leads into a jab into his eyes and Owen trying to escape through the door. After that, it appears Bret gets harder on Owen than ever seen before. It’s unfortunate that the crowd aren’t as into this feud as they had been in previous feuds, which just proves that Bret isn’t the new Hogan that I’m hoping for, because he isn’t pulling his weight as much as he should be. Regardless, Owen keeps trying to run out of the cage, but Bret is always there to stop him. They trade Sharpshooters, but there are no submissions in the cage. The brothers try to climb over the top simultaneously, which leads to Bret giving his brother a huge superplex off the top of the cage! The end finally comes as both men are crawling up and back down the outside of the cage, when Bret slams his younger brother’s head into the cage and causes his feet to get stuck between the bars – and Bret drops to the floor, winning the match at a grueling 28:27! (B)</p><p> </p><p> As Bret is being handed his title and he celebrates, we see Jim “The Anvil” jump the guardrail and clothesline Davey Boy Smith from behind! Neidhart forcibly shoves Bret back into the cage, then he and Owen begin beating Bret to the mat! They put a padlock on the cage, and they keep knocking family members off of the cage walls as the attack continues. Finally Davey Boy is able to climb in over the top, but Jim and Owen scamper away before they can get what’s coming to them. Jerry and I’s contrasting commentary served this segment well, as I kept calling for help and Jerry cheered Owen and Jim on. The crowd got way hotter during this, and Bret’s performance in selling the attack was good. This feud continues. He stops everything, telling official Jack Doan to ring the bell, calling this off at 5:02, because this match is over. He says that there’s nothing to fight over, because let’s face it – Lex Luger wouldn’t be able to cut it in the Million Dollar Corporation! This is fine, because the fans weren’t getting into the face against face match very well; not that they cared much for this non-finish. But it brought the crowd down a little after they were at a frenzy following the Harts match. The match ended when Luger had Tatanka in a headlock, because Luger felt he needed protected from taking a loss here. That ego will come back to bite your ass in the future, Lex, I guarantee it. ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/irs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/bambambigelow.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/nikolaivolkoff.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> The Million Dollar Corporation comes to circle the ring, and on DiBiase’s cue, they attack both Luger and Tatanka! Bigelow drops diving headbutts on both of them, leaving them lying on the mat as “The Million Dollar Man” admits that he was going to sign Luger… but Lex waited too long, and instead, he found a younger, better looking, more athletic man to be his new crown jewel of the Million Dollar Corporation. </p><p> </p><p> “With no further adieu, I formally present this gift of the Gods, this new Olympian specimen, the new crown jewel of the Million Dollar Corporation… I give you… Alexander!”</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wwf/alexander.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> The newly signed Alexander makes his way to the ring, joining DiBiase’s company in putting the boots to both Luger and Tatanka. He poses in the ring next to a laughing DiBiase, who promises that this acquisition will only make the Million Dollar Corporation that much stronger! Ted came across well here, while Bigelow looked good during the beatdown. He knocks on the door to attempt to get a word with the former champion, but there’s no answer, just the sound of muffled voices behind the door. The storyline involved definitely had some low heat, because nobody has or have ever really cared much about Fred in the WWF. I may have to keep him around until the Rumble because of the lack of depth in the roster though, and that is unfortunate. Yokozuna definitely carries this match, and it shows. Duke is the weak link of the in-ring action. Fuji’s presence is good, and Lawler does a great job of talking about how he wishes he would have liked to get his hands on Droese from the outside. The match ends when “The King” gets up from the announce table and smashes his crutches on Duke’s back, sending him right into a belly to belly suplex from Yokozuna, followed by the Banzai Drop! This one is over at 12:01. This one got the crowd all kinds of hot, even though the match drifted a little here and there. Summerslam was a great show. I was a bit surprised that Taker vs. Taker was the main event, but it worked out well enough. Being a huge fan of The Outsiders, I'm also looking forward to seeing what you'll do with both men following their Summerslam match. It will also be interesting to see Marcus Bagwell in the Million Dollar Corporation. Oh and Bret and Owen going for nearly 30 minutes in the cage...awesome stuff!</p>
