WCW presents Bash at the Beach 1994

So this is how I'm posting events. They talk about the match of the century tonight, Ric Flair against “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan, with “Sensuous” Sherri in Flair’s corner against “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Mr. T in Hulk’s corner. A nice little banter as Tony points out that Bobby doesn’t look all that happy, to which Heenan says he isn’t – but he will be later when Hogan is beaten and crawling out of here with all of Orlando calling him a “loser, loser, loser!” with Gene saying that it’ll be a cold day somewhere when that happens. They throw it to me in the backstage interview area, where I say that I’m just as excited as everyone else to be here to see this huge match finally come to light, and that I’ll be backstage to catch a few interviews throughout the evening. Bobby’s “loser” tirade was really amusing, we might have to get him to use that more. The crowd seemed to lose interest when I was backstage with no one to interview yet, and unfortunately, around all the banter with Bobby and Gene, Tony looked a little lost. The crowd are pumped for this night though, and that isn’t going to stop them from cheering for now.

Rating: C+

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/gordonsolie-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/stevenregal.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/sirwilliam-s.jpg

We head back to find Gordon Solie in a dressing room along with the Television champion Lord Steven Regal, Sir William at his side as usual. Solie chides Regal for his actions on Main Event, when he attacked Johnny B. Badd after he won a grueling match to get a title shot which was supposed to open this show. “His Lordship” shows no regret, saying that Badd is not worthy of being in the ring with royalty, and that he expects to win the match via forfeit.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/nickbockwinkel.jpg

His tune changes when the commissioner of WCW enters the room, Nick Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel says that he’s taken a few shortcuts in his past, so he knows exactly what dodge “Mr. Regal” is trying to pull. Nick tells him that it isn’t going to work though, as he is using an executive action to postpone the match until later in the evening, so that “Mr. Badd” has time to recover and get the title match that he won earlier! Regal is not pleased, having had his foolproof plan backfire.

Rating: C

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/terrytaylor.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/ddp.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/doll-s.jpg
Terry Taylor vs. Diamond Dallas Page w/Diamond Doll

Time Limit: 20:00

Referee: Billy Silverman

Tony and Bobby take note that this is a special bonus match, which was supposed to take place after the show when the cameras were off the air, but due to Commissioner Bockwinkel’s orders regarding the TV title match, it is happening on the air. Taylor uses his speed and experience to work Page over with some mat wrestling right away, as these guys try to work the crowd into being more pumped up. Page finds himself on the mat more than he wants, and finally gets an opening by calling for a time out, before grabbing an advancing Taylor and throwing him through the ropes to the floor.

So we allowed Dallas’s wife to start coming to ringside with him, and things were okay for a little while, but now we’ve begun to notice how the two really have zero chemistry together. The matches become clunky as he has to play into her gimmick of holding up cards, and it just throws everything off. Something that does save the match somewhat is Bobby’s commentary, as he talks about how he maybe sort of was talking to Dallas earlier tonight and could have told him some of Terry’s strengths and weaknesses. When asked why he would do such a thing, Bobby says that it’s because Terry “walks around thinking he’s the cock-of-the-block, but he’s not”. Just humorous stuff from “The Brain” that plays into the history he has with Taylor from the WWF.

Page gets hit with the Fivearm toward the end, but is lucky enough to have his foot under the rope when Taylor went for a cover. Terry whips Dallas into the ropes, but he ducks his head a moment too soon, and Page brings an elbow down on his neck before lifting him up in a piledriver position and splashing him with a pancake. The Diamond Clash is enough to lodge another victory for DDP.

Match Time: 9:12

Rating: C

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/brianpillman.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/bobbywalker.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/tanaka.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/haito.jpg
“Flyin” Brian Pillman and “Hardwork” Bobby Walker vs. Tanaka-San and Haito

Time Limit: 20:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

Tony and Bobby seem confused as to what to call Tanaka and Haito. We can’t exactly call them either Bad Company or the Orient Express. Bobby calling them any name he can think of really helped give the match a boost to the pay-per-view audience.

Pillman is your designated face-in-peril for this one, because as much as we like Walker as a talent, we aren’t sure exactly how he can do in this big push yet. But Brian is well tested in high profile matches, so he gets to work the bulk of the match. He definitely carries the match, while Bobby ends up looking like a weak link by not holding up his end very well once he gets the hot tag.

Walker tries to be a house of fire, but that fire is not very bright. He tries a few rollups that score some two counts, but nothing puts either Tanaka or Haito away. Eventually, Walker heads to the top rope, looking for a high risk move. Pillman hits his Air Pillman on Haito, leaving it as only Bobby and Tanaka. But “Hardwork” gets tripped up by…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/sonnyonoo-s.jpg

Bobby spouts off that it’s his good personal friend from overseas, Sonny Onoo. Sonny, in some pretty spot-on “Pidgin English”, answers that nobody knew who brought these men together, but they should have known it wasn’t some dumb American. Onoo plays the “Asian talent is best” card well here, even scoring a mild “USA” chant from the Florida crowd. He dubs Haito and Tanaka-San as his “Onoo Company” and says they will be the only company worth watching in WCW.

Match Time: 8:11

Ratings: C- / C-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/tonyschiavone-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/jesseventura-s.jpg
Bobby Heenan is replaced on commentary by Jesse “The Body” Ventura. Steamboat deals out deep arm drags like he’s going to run out of them, and Austin plays the great heel that he can be. Ricky is definitely suited to these technical bouts, and it really helped the match to give them that basis.

Steve takes over with cheating, using the old “trick knee” low blow tactic. Jesse is in glee as he watches “one of his favorite wrestlers” go to work. Steamboat is one of the most sympathetic wrestlers ever, so the crowd eat this right up. The Stun-Gun gets a two count as “The Dragon” wills Steamboat on to take the title from Austin.

Steamboat finally makes his comeback, hitting Austin with blistering chops that send him around the ring, calling for time out. He doesn’t get it, as Ricky sends him to the ropes for another big two handed knife edge chop. But after a big flurry, Steamboat gets his big crossbody block but Austin is able to roll through on it, and he not only hooks the tights but also puts his feet on the ropes in order to hold Ricky down for three.

Match Time: 21:50

Rating: B

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/titles/wcwtag.jpg
http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/davesullivan-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/cactusjack.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/kevinsullivan.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/paulroma.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/paulorndorff.jpg

WCW World Tag Team Championships

Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan w/Dave Sullivan vs. Pretty Wonderful

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Mickey Jay

Cactus really wanted to have a nice brawl match, but we have been catching so much crap from the overhead suits that I had to turn him down, and had to specifically tell Jody that he was not to allow Mick to get his way on this one. We know he and Kevin can wrestle, so show it already!

Jack seems to definitely want to make me regret that decision, but I don’t at all. He goes out of his way to show that he is literally head and shoulders above everyone else in the match, but the more he bucks the tide he just makes the match look better. Cactus is the one who gets worked on in the Pretty Wonderful corner, Orndorff doing some solid heel tactics like a Roma-assisted abdominal stretch and some trade offs without tagging. Kevin and Dave cheer Cactus on, but man do we need to get those two apart sometime soon. Dave and Kevin just don’t work together in this fashion. Cactus actually seems to be getting better at his brawling, as he finds some new ways to engage the crowd with a flurry of forearms to Roma.

The match comes down to Dave’s bumbling, as Kevin tells him to hold his crutch up behind Kevin’s back. Kevin urges Cactus to whip Orndorff toward him, where he would move and Paul would meet the crutch. But “Mr. Wonderful” pulls a reversal just as Kevin slides away, and Cactus takes the crutch right to the throat! Kevin and Dave argue on the outside about what happened, but in the ring Roma comes down with a flying elbow on Jack before Orndorff makes the cover. A coughing Cactus is unable to kick out, and we have new champions!

Match Time: 14:18

Rating: C+

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/dustinrhodes.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/doublea.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/bunkhousebuck.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/terryfunk.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/colrobparker-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/meng-s.jpg
Grudge Match

“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes & “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson vs. Bunkhouse Buck & Terry Funk w/Colonel Robert Parker and Meng

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

This one is a wild brawl from before the bell even sounds, with Dustin charging the Stud Stable’s corner and attacking with rights and lefts. Tony sticks up for Dustin’s choice, saying that they’ve tagged together a few times now and there were no issues. Arn enters the ring and throws a few haymakers into the face of Buck, who drops like he was shot.

But when Charles Robinson gets knocked to the mat, that’s when the entire dynamic of the match changes…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/tullyblanchard.jpg

… Tully Blanchard enters the ring and goes face to face with Arn Anderson! And just then, Anderson DDTs Dustin! He and Tully shake hands and leave the ring, going over and shaking hands with The Colonel, and the crowd shower them in boos! I’d say that means the turn was a complete success, as Funk piledrives Rhodes and covers for the victory. He fills in the audience on Badd winning out over Ron Simmons earlier, but being attacked by both Regal and Simmons afterward. After all of that, the crowd are nicely warmed up for this match, probably just as much or more than they were for Sting to be in this one.

Johnny and Steven put on a great match here to calm the crowd after the last match, and it helps that the two have some pretty good chemistry. Johnny’s high risk style meshes well against Regal’s mat technique, and the crowd just eats it up.

Tony starts pointing out how long the match has gone, and Gary Cappetta makes the five minute warning announcement. Johnny begins laying out the big moves then, with Tony saying that if Badd doesn’t win this, maybe he can hang on to the time limit and have a reason for another shot that way. But when he leaps over the top rope for a sunset flip, Regal drops down over his shoulders and grabs the ropes, hanging on until he gets the three.

Match Time: 13:37

Ratings: B- / B-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/harleyrace-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vader.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/vs.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/guardianangel.jpg
Vader w/Harley Race vs. The Guardian Angel

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Randy Eller

This one doesn’t even masquerade as something that it isn’t. Harley does some things from the outside, but Angel quickly knocks him on his ass and keeps fighting with Vader.

Vader takes over for some time, hitting his usual brand of hard hitting offense. A police baton gets involved, with Vader using it while Tony and Jesse drive home the point of Guardian Angels not using weapons. Vader does really well at these wild brawls, and it looked like he is really improving his performance in the ring here.

The Angel starts fighting back after getting his knees up to block a Vader Bomb, getting the crowd involved with some big right hands along with his “three strikes” deal. He may not be the best babyface in the world, but he can get the crowd involved. The baton finds it’s way into the Angel’s hands, and Ventura does all he can to urge him to use it, and he’s so adamant that the match seems better because of it. But he throws it down to a nice pop from the crowd, but Race gets it. Vader holds Angel from behind, but he ducks and Race hits Vader with the baton! The Angel hits a double noggin knocker on Harley and Vader, before sending Vader into the ropes and planting him in the middle of the ring with the spike slam (we really need to name that again) to get the three count and a big, big win!

Match Time: 8:10

Rating: B-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/geneokerlund-s.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/colrobparker.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/terryfunk.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/arnanderson.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/tullyblanchard.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/bunkhousebuck.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/meng.jpg

“Mean” Gene is backstage to get an interview with the Stud Stable, and he enters the room to the sound of champagne bottles popping. He tries to get a word wherever he can, first settling on Robert Parker. “The Colonel” is ecstatic, saying that the plan went off without a hitch, that Dustin was truly as big a dummy as he looked. Terry Funk grabs Gene away, saying that all Rhodes are egg-suckin’ pig dogs, and if he makes it out of the hospital bed that the Stud Stable put him in, then they’ll send him right back out of this business! Gene finally finds his way over to Arn and Tully, who are casually sipping champagne from glasses. Okerlund asks what is just going on with them, Blanchard saying that he got a taste of the spotlight again at Slamboree and he wanted more. He saw Terry come out there to help Colonel Parker beat up Dustin Rhodes, and he realized that he wanted to get some of his own in on the next generation of Rhodes after all the times he and “Double A” beat on his old man. The Stud Stable is going to do all of those things. Tully has definitely been working on his charisma while he’s been away. Anderson says that he hadn’t heard from this man in a few years. He talks about how he was clued in on the plan when he was talking to Terry down in Philly a few months ago, but he wasn’t sold on it until he saw this man (Tully) standing in front of him earlier tonight. Now, the Stud Stable contains one of the strongest units ever in this sport, and there’s nothing that Dustin Rhodes can do about it. “Go home, boy,” he tells Dustin. The crowd definitely got hotter after this one, as the next chapter starts in this feud. Gene takes a moment before the segment ends to ask Arn and Tully about the “Match of the Century” tonight, with each of them saying that their bonds to Flair run deep, and they hope to see him send “the intruder” back out of WCW with his leg in a sling.

Rating: B-

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/logos/wcwbump.png

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/bruti.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/davesullivan.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/marcusbagwell.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/thepatriot.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/babobbyeaton.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/bastevekeirn.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/ronsimmons.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/sting.jpg

Before our main event starts, Bobby Heenan has rejoined Tony Schiavone in lieu of Jesse. “The Brain” talks to Tony about how much this upcoming match means, as well as throwing a congratulations to Colonel Parker for finally putting Arn and Tully back on the same page. Tony asks Bobby what he knows about the beef that the two had the last time we saw them together, but Heenan changes the subject. Tony notes that even wrestlers are out in the crowd, with the camera panning around to see Brother Bruti sitting next to Dave Sullivan (who is wearing a red and yellow “Hulkster” t-shirt); Stars ‘n Stripes sitting together in the front row, Patriot still in his mask even on his off-day; Bad Attitude watching on; Ron Simmons, who still looks angry; and finally “The Stinger” who Tony says has to feel a vested interest in who gets the win here tonight. Michael gives them each a great introduction, even if he does look lost among all this wrestling star power. Tony and Bobby could have done better during this whole thing, as their banter was just all over the place. From the starting bell the crowd know that what they’re seeing is magical, two dynasties facing off against one another, and I make sure that Tony points out to the crowd that it is only happening right here in World Championship Wrestling.

Hogan takes control with his huge strength advantage, shoving Flair around and flexing each time to a pop from the kids in the crowd. Ric regroups on the outside before trying to go to his standard gameplan. But it doesn’t work, as Hulk is just too big and powerful, and he fires Flair off to the ropes, but “The Nature Boy” slides out of the ring when Hogan tries for the big boot.

Flair goads Hogan out of the ring and ducks behind Sherri. This gives Hogan a second to pause, and Flair gets the advantage by getting into the ring first and then stomping on Hogan’s leg when he entered the ring second. This begins Ric’s portion of the match, and some of the crowd are still behind him as he goes to work on the left knee of “The Hulkster”. The problem is that neither man is really selling all that well for each other. Tony tries to sell it as Hogan fighting back from pure adrenaline, but it doesn’t work out very well; this match really needed better announcing than he is giving it.

The figure four is locked in for some time, but before Hogan can be counted down, he Hulks Up while in the hold! Hogan breaks the hold by literally lifting Flair’s leg off of his own, as Tony oversells the whole thing as the superhuman strength of “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan.

Randy Anderson takes a bump from a Hogan clothesline, and that’s when Sherri blatantly begins entering the ring. She punches Jimmy Hart down, and then helps Flair to attack Hogan. Brother Bruti jumps the guardrail to go after them, pulling Sherri away but taking a chopblock from Flair for his troubles! Sherri slaps Hogan in the corner, but it energizes him! He hits Sherri with an atomic drop, sending her flying out of the ring, and right into the waiting arms of Mr. T! T picks her up and carries her out of the Orlando Arena!

Now that the match is down to one on one again, Flair is left begging off. He hits Hogan with a few chops, but the Hulk Up is going strong. A few chops to the chest have no effect, but Hogan’s three punches do. He sends Flair into the ropes and hits the big boot, and then the legdrop! The crowd chants along with Randy Anderson, as he counts the one, the two, and the three!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/hulkhogan.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/mq-1/wcw/shaq.jpg

“Shaq” enters the ring and presents Hulk Hogan with the WCW World Heavyweight championship, as Michael Buffer announces the new World Heavyweight champion! Flair is helped out of the arena as Bobby practically cries on commentary. Tony starts losing his voice from all of his screaming, just sounding weak here. Heenan’s pleas to Nick Bockwinkel to come out here and restart the match are worthy of eye rolling, but in the ring the kids are cheering wildly for their hero. Hulk Hogan begins his big posing routine as the show closes.
Great Bash at the Beach! Is there any reason you're keeping WCW's production below WWF's level? I wouldn't say they were that far apart, definitely not to the point of me thinking less of WCW like the game treats it. They should be able to afford it.

And really, Adam needs to make it to where a married couple always has at least neutral chemistry. DDP having awful chemistry with Kim just makes no sense. Him getting overshadowed as everyone stares at her because she was so gorgeous would make sense though.

Just kidding. Solid show. Surprised Vader took the L though! Also agree it's weird when married couples have zero chemistry

I don't feel like WCW's broadcast quality caught up to the WWF's (and even then, still a little iffy) until sometime in 1995. Like around when Nitro debuted. But I'm getting tired of the penalty, so I'm probably going to up it when I get to August. No real reason for that specific date, just feels right to have it at the beginning of the month for some reason.

Dallas and Kim's bad chemistry is actually a bit of a good thing, because it's given me something to do with them in the near future. Before I got that to happen, I was struggling a little for a program to put DDP into. I can kinda see why people being married could be grounds for having at least neutral chemistry, but as long as it isn't in the game, just have to deal with it. Kevin says that they should have a rematch, because he needs to hold a championship, and he wants it as soon as the ink can be put on contracts for the match. However, he isn't sure at this point if he wants Cactus or Dave to be his partner, and that statement takes Jack off guard. This would make my day. We were tied last week.

Beej, can posters vote on this thread too? Out of interest. I like voting on Wrestling Nexus, but I'd understand if registering for the new website is a bit of a deterrent.

Of course! When I was going to have a week between WN to GDS postings it was going to be weird to get the timing on those sort of things. But since I'm only posting the "early access" shows a few days before instead of a full week, then by the time anyone reads it I'm still a few days away from the next week.

Basically, the way I'm doing it is this. I have all of the week written out already. Whichever show wins the spotlight, I go back over to add the pictures, some more description, etc. So yeah, I already have week 4 basically ready to go right now; but I'm working on booking the next week 1 until the spotlight show gets decided on.

I would like to point out however that as of week 1, the shows posted over on Nexus are going to start featuring a really awesome new coding that I just learned how to do which I can't put on GDS. So I can't wait to start doing that :)

Awesome! I really some more people vote this week and stick around for the long haul. Wrestling Nexus is a great place to post diaries and find the latest mods! Seriously, you guys have done a great job on setting up the site.

But before Lex could say yes, no, or anything really, Tatanka came out and accused his friend of taking the money and selling out! Luger left without a word as Tatanka and DiBiase argued. Volkoff goes right for Tatanka before the bell even rings, and uses clubbing forearms to try to snuff out “The Native American”. Volkoff even breaks out a pump kick to a running Tatanka, which gets a two count. Tatanka begins going on the warpath, hitting chops on Nikolai, but can’t seem to hold him down either. Finally Tatanka gets a lucky break, as Volkoff ducks his head a moment too soon for a back body drop, and Tatanka wraps him up with a small package at 5:41 for the victory. Tatanka, insulted, says that he’s just as good or better than any other man in the World Wrestling Federation, Lex Luger included! This shockingly brings out Lex Luger himself, who gets in Tatanka’s face, asking him if that’s a challenge! “The Native American” doesn’t back down, saying that he will take on Luger anytime, any place! DiBiase leaves, laughing all the way, as Luger and Tatanka get into a shoving match! Owen says that Bret is obviously afraid of him given that Hart had to win a crown “just to face you, Bret” when all Bob Backlund had to do was ask! So they are here now not just to ask but to demand “that you, Bret” takes on his former partner “The Anvil” next week right here on Monday Night Raw! Hogan and Bruti talk about how they are ready for “The Paulas” tonight, and will have something to say about Ric Flair later on WCW Saturday Night! (B) Jimmy really helped both of them here, despite the segment being a little short.

Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and “Mean” Gene Okerlund open the show officially, with Tony immediately hyping our main event this week. It is a non-title match where World Tag Team champions Pretty Wonderful will take on our World’s Heavyweight champion “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan and Brother Bruti! Gene is excited to see Hogan and Bruti in action, but Heenan calls them to task right away, saying that there is something way more important than those “bozos” and that is that Hogan will have to answer the challenge that he was privileged to bring to everyone from Ric Flair on Worldwide. Tony says there will be those things and more, but first we are set for action! (B) Tony looked lost in the shuffle of three men, but he improvised well.

Lt. James Earl Wright is in the ring for our first bout, but he has a huge task on his hands against Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. The challenger for the United States title wastes no time in using his veteran wiles and never slows down from bell to bell, winning with a flying bodypress at 2:39. (C-) Ricky’s performance stood out as being good.

After the match, Steamboat is waving to the crowd when Steve Austin rushes out from under the ring and attacks! Austin lifts Steamboat to deliver the Stun Gun and then locks him in the Hollywood and Vine submission until WCW officials have to forcibly pull him away. (B)

Harlem Heat and Stars ‘n Stripes are two of WCW’s hottest young teams, and they do battle when we are back from commercial break. The patriotic duo have the crowd on their side, but the sheer street violence of the brothers is too much for them tonight, as The Patriot is hit with a chain from the outside, and that leads to Kane pinning him at 7:48 for the cheap victory. (C+)

“Mean” Gene is out to talk about the WCW Hotline, urging fans to call if they want to know who is getting suspended from WCW or who may be coming into the company soon to escape from some smoky bingo hall. He is interrupted by Harlem Heat though, who want to know when WCW are going to get the scoop and start treating them with the respect they deserve. They say that they’ve beaten the former champions on Worldwide and now they’ve beaten Stars ‘n Stripes, who have been pegged as possibly getting the next title shot, so when do they get a title match? Kole says that maybe it’s time they make their own luck around here, leaving before clearing up what that means! (B-)

Fans cheer in droves as The Man Called Sting is in action on WCW Saturday Night! He takes on another veteran, Rip Rogers, and despite Rip getting in some token offense, Sting puts this away at 6:50 with the Stinger Splash followed by the dreaded Scorpion Deathlock. (B-) Sting and Rip showed great chemistry. Sting came out of this match looking good.

Sting barely has released the hold by the time Harlem Heat are in the ring, and the two brothers attack him from behind! Officials are just a little too late on the scene as Sting gets hit with the Towering Inferno and left lying on the mat! (B-) Watching their hero get assaulted got the crowd hotter, even if Tony wasn’t the best announcer during it. He sounded pretty hokey.

We move quickly on from that to Gene Okerlund in the interview area, and he brings out Hulk Hogan and Brother Bruti! With Jimmy Hart on their heels, Hogan and Bruti talk mostly about Ric Flair, as “The Immortal One” accepts Ric Flair’s challenge for a rematch at the Clash of the Champions, dude! Hulk takes a very brief moment to let Bruti speak, and he says that “Paula One and Two” better be prepared for tonight, because he hasn’t wrestled in a few years and he’s just itching for a clipping! So what’cha gonna do, brothers?! (B) Jimmy helped both with his jumping around, this interview getting the crowd hotter. Hogan looked good, but Bruti looks like he may have dipped into some of his “private stash” beforehand.

The Guardian Angel is out to put a stop to another person’s vices, as he faces off against The Gambler. Three strikes and he’s out, as The Angel puts this bout away in 4:30 with the spike slam. (C-) As planned, this match calmed the crowd a little. Bobby’s jokes about the Angel’s expense gave the match a boost.

Angel calls to ringside and has an impromptu interview with Gordon Solie, where he says that he heard what Ron Simmons had to say, and after last week, that was strike three! He says that if Ron thinks he’s so big and bad, we can see who’s biggest and baddest at the Clash of the Champions! (B)

Gene Okerlund is now pre-taped in the Clash of the Champions Event Center, where he talks about some big matches that have been added in the past week. The biggest of which you heard about earlier, as Hulk Hogan will take on Ric Flair again with the World championship on the line! Also, we just heard that The Guardian Angel has accepted the challenge from Ron Simmons, and Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard of the Horse-no, now of the Stud Stable will take on Dustin Rhodes and a mystery partner! August 25th cannot get here soon enough! (B-) Tony’s before and after comments were really lacking.

With his Diamond Doll at ringside, Diamond Dallas Page is in action next, but he has some stiff competition this week against “Flyin’” Brian Pillman! Page nearly has the match won at one occasion, but he takes time to make the Doll give him a 10 for his move. When she can’t find the card right away, Brian gets a quick victory roll and gets the win, barely holding Page’s shoulders down at 7:01! ©

As Brian leaves the ring in celebration, Page and his Doll are heard around the ring arguing. She is apologizing, but he doesn’t seem very forgiving! ©

Bunkhouse Buck and Colonel Parker are in a fine mood until they get into their bout this evening, as Buck takes on Johnny B. Badd. Johnny doesn’t come alone though, as he has Dustin Rhodes in his corner! With Dustin keeping “The Colonel” at bay, Johnny controls a good portion of the match, but as Buck and Parker begin to cheat in order to try winning, it’s more than Dustin can stand, and he enters the ring to throw punches with Buck, drawing a disqualification in 5:35. © Parker did some good work, but Johnny seemed off his game. Bobby rooting on Buck gave the match a boost.

With Buck and Parker having left, Dustin takes up a microphone and, after apologizing to Johnny for getting involved and costing him the match, but the Stud Stable just get under his skin so much! He says that he can’t wait until August 25th to get his hands on that traitor Arn Anderson and the jackal Tully Blanchard! He will enter the match even if he can’t find a partner! (C+)

Eric Bischoff is backstage to interview what is now an upset Johnny B. Badd, who isn’t overly pleased that he lost his match thanks to the guy he had brought with him for backup. But out of the side of the shot approaches Harley Race, with Vader. After Race and Badd have words, Vader doesn’t look very pleased! (B-) Eric was very underwhelming, but Vader came across well, and the crowd are hotter at the thought of this being a match down the line.

Elsewhere in the arena, Gene Okerlund is on hand for a meeting called in haste by WCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel. Nick has also invited Steve Austin to this special meeting, as well as Ricky Steamboat. Bockwinkel says that Mr. Austin and Mr. Steamboat already have a match set up for the Clash of the Champions on August 25th, but it appears that Mr. Austin wanted a little action beforehand. Nick says that Austin wasn’t even scheduled to be here tonight, but he found a way into the arena during the ring setup solely to attack Mr. Steamboat. In accordance with Mr. Austin’s tactics at Bash at the Beach in order to retain the title, as punishment, Nick says that he is going to insert a special clause into their bout on August the 25th, making it a two out of three falls match! Austin screams about how this is a load of crap, that he’s getting tired of all this abuse of power, but it falls on deaf ears as Bockwinkel shakes hands with a very agreeable Steamboat! (B) Gene worked the crowd well off-script here, Austin improvised well, and Nick clearly enjoyed working off-script. Ricky didn’t say anything.

A graphic reminds people that up next, Hulk Hogan and Brother Bruti, in the ring together for the first time in over a year! (B)

Gary Michael Cappetta is in the ring and he gives an extra long, juicy entrance to “The duo you’ve all been waiting for, the team of teams” Hulk Hogan and Brother Bruti! The three of them (Hogan, Brother, and Jimmy Hart) come down to the ring, playing to the loud, cheering audience as the main event is about to begin! (B+) Hogan was a real star in this segment, even if Bruti didn’t come out of it looking very good.

The crowd are so excited for our main event, and it’s a big one! Pretty Wonderful are chased out of the ring immediately by Hulk Hogan and Brother Bruti, but they get back in the ring and isolate “The Hulkster” due to cheating on the part of the World Tag Team champions. It’s all Bruti can do to keep the crowd chanting for the World Heavyweight champion as he’s held in Orndorff’s illegally assisted abdominal stretch, but eventually he makes the tag to “The Brother” who goes wild on Orndorff and Roma! Bodyslams and a double noggin knocker take us directly back to 1989, and Bruti tags Hulk back in to finish the bout off. But that’s when Ric Flair and Sensuous Sherri make their presence felt, rushing out from the back with a steel chair and laying it into Hogan’s back when he goes for the big legdrop! At 16:01, Flair has caused a disqualification! (B) This match deserved better announcing. The crowd were hot for it though, and Hogan shone in the bout. Brutus was pretty clearly wasted though.

The match thrown out, Flair also lays into Bruti’s back with the chair, as Jimmy gets shoved down by Sherri (with Heenan laughing that it’s no surprise that he got beat up by a woman). Orndorff and Roma join in on the beating, until a charge led by a battered Sting and Stars ‘n Stripes rush out to even the odds! That’s when the three men and a lady (Tony saying “That’s no lady, that’s one vile person right there” about Sherri) take their leave, and the brigade of faces check on Hogan and Bruti as the show closes for the night! What a wild evening it was! (B) Tony got all screamy again, which didn’t help. I'll put your Saturday Night down for next week if you want, Jag. Since there was a tie for so many days, I went ahead and did ECW up.... right now it is literally sitting on Nexus, ready to be posted, as soon as photobucket will let me upload the final few pics that I need for this week.

Trust me, with some things that happened during the show/week, the six man tag gets way less epic than you would think it will be...

They hype the three matches that are taking place this evening, especially the WWF championship match between brothers-in-law and former tag partners, Bret “The Hitman” Hart defending against Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart! (B-)

Razor Ramon may have an Intercontinental title match lined up for Summerslam, but tonight he had to get past his WrestleMania X opponent, Shawn Michaels. The two picked up almost right where they left off in that bout, but Ramon picks up the victory yet again as Diesel hits the ring and attacks him, drawing a disqualification after an amazing 12:27! After a Jackknife Powerbomb, Razor is left on the mat. (B-) This match got the crowd buzzing.

Summerslam Report: Todd Pettengill announces two new matches for the “hottest show of the summer” as “The King” Jerry Lawler taking on “The Dumpster” Duke Droese, and the mighty Typhoon going up against Crush! (C-)

Luna Vachon may not be on hand, but her presence is felt in her mysterious female wrestler Bull Nakano, who takes on Alundra Blayze with Alundra’s Women’s title on the line. Blayze uses all the speed and cunning she has, but Nakano’s power seems unrivaled! Blayze narrowly escapes with her championship intact only because Bull lifts her off the mat in a chokehold and refuses to release it, causing referee Mike Chioda to call for a disqualification in 6:53! (C-) Bull has debuted a Joshi Monster Heel gimmick, rating Above Average. These two have good chemistry, and the commentary really lifted the match.

The voice of Lord Alfred Hayes hypes next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, which will feature Bob Backlund, who should be apologizing for his conduct on a recent episode of WWF Superstars; and the main event of “King of Harts” Owen Hart taking on “Native American” Tatanka! (C+)

With Bob Backlund’s recent attack on him in mind, Bret Hart seems to be moving a little gingerly backstage. Vince McMahon conducts an interview with “The Hitman” from the commentary table, asking him if he can physically be ready tonight, notwithstanding the attack he suffered on WWF Superstars. Bret responds that he definitely isn’t feeling the best, but this crowd came here tonight to see him put his “old buddy” in the Sharpshooter, just like the crowd at Summerslam will be there to see him defeat his little brother; and they were coming whether he was at 100%, 75%, or 25%. Bret says that he doesn’t know what was up with Bob Backlund, but he knows that he will continue to do what he does best until he can’t do it anymore, and that’s wrestle. Vince thanks him for this time out from his preparations to talk to them and wishes him luck in his match this evening. (C+) Vince was a little underwhelming, but Bret looked good.

A video plays recapping the years that Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart were the Hart Foundation, highlighting their WWF Tag Team title wins and showing them hitting the Hart Attack on a serious of opponents. (B)

If Bret Hart or Jim Neidhart had any of those good times on their mind, they left all of them go as soon as they hit the ring, as they attack each other with all they have in their bodies! Neidhart’s power attacks leave the champion reeling, but Bret’s heart (pun not intended) leads him on, and he hits “The Anvil” with a suicide dive through the ropes that turn things his way. Owen Hart is at ringside trying to be a thorn in his brother’s side, but after a russian leg sweep and diving elbow, the Sharpshooter is applied in the center of the ring, and Neidhart has no recourse but to submit at 12:01! (B) Jim seemed off his game, but Owen did good work at ringside. The match got the crowd hotter. Bret and Neidhart have great chemistry. Bret’s in-ring performance was a 100!

The bell has no sooner sounded until Owen Hart rushes the ring and attacks his brother from behind! Owen and eventually Neidhart do a number on Bret, until a host of WWF officials come out to get between them all. On his way down the aisle, Owen tells a nearby camera that his brother is “A big show-off, glory hound! Jim was taking it easy on you Bret, but you couldn’t let him have his pride because you’re too selfish!” (B+) Bret’s performance was good here, looking like the duo really took him out.

After denouncing the actions of Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart, Vince McMahon and Randy Savage turn their attention toward next week, where we will see Owen Hart take on Tatanka and also an interview with Bob Backlund! Regal says that some lowly boy stands no chance against him, so he’ll meet him on August 25th at the Clash of the Champions (C+) Brian changed his gimmick to Armed Forces (Wholesome), which rated Above Average. Sting and Stars ‘n Stripes led the resistance to chase the wrongdoing trio away. (C+)

Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and “Mean” Gene Okerlund open the show properly, with the three discussing some of the matches we have going on tonight. Gene will be talking to “The Immortal” himself, Dustin Rhodes takes on Bunkhouse Buck, and our big main event features Ric Flair and Pretty Wonderful against Stars ‘n Stripes and Sting! (B-) Tony was a little weak.

We open our show with a heated matchup, as Flyin’ Brian Pillman takes on recent nemesis Tanaka-San. Onoo Company may have had the advantage when it’s two on one, but with no Haito here this evening, Pillman is able to use his high flying offense to eventually twist Tanaka into a cradle for the win at 5:26. ©

Eric Bischoff is in the interview area with the one and only Sting! “The Stinger” talks about the attack on him last week from Harlem Heat, saying that he’s looking into the best partner he can find to make them regret their actions! As for tonight though, he couldn’t stand idly by while Ric Flair had Hulk Hogan down and out, and tonight he will be happy to team with Stars ‘n Stripes to put “The Nature Boy” back in his place! (C+)

A vignette shows Jean-Paul Lévesque winning a game of polo, before he says that this is only a fraction of the athletic ability and talent he is bringing to World Championship Wrestling. Jean-Paul Lévesque is coming soon! ©

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is in the ring and he’s proud to bring out the World Heavyweight champion, Hulk Hogan! No Bruti this week, only Jimmy Hart at his side, “The Hulkster” says that what Ric Flair and “Precious Paulas” did to him last week will not go unanswered, dudes! He says that he isn’t cleared to compete, but he’ll be watching “those top notch good Hulkamania fueled brothers” Stars ‘n Stripes, and Sting, as they take care of Hulk’s light work in the main event tonight! What’cha gonna dooooooooooooo? (B+) Hulk improvised well. Gene may have performed poorly, but Hulk looked like a real star.

Despite his loss at Clash of the Champions and on Pro, “Hardwork” Bobby Walker is not a man to give up lightly. Tony talks about him being the nephew of great veteran Thunderbolt Patterson as Walker takes on Lt. James Earl Wright, with Walker scoring a win at 3:44 with an impressive ropewalk shoulderblock. (D-) This match was planned to bring the fans down a little.

Tony says that he’s hearing that something has happened in the backstage area that we need to go look into, and when we get a camera back there we see that Sting and The Patriot are clamoring around a scene of trainers and medical staff. Tony surmises that someone must have attacked Marcus Bagwell! This throws our main event into jeopardy! (B-)

With that fresh on everyone’s mind, we head to the ring as Bad Attitude are making their way into it. They face off against Jumpin’ Joey Maggs and Frankie Lancaster, as Tony and Bobby talk mostly about the main event. Eaton and Keirn use their tag team veteran skills to easily defeat their mismatched opponents. (D+) These guys were also told to cool the crowd, but it wasn’t productive since they weren’t hot again yet.

Backstage in the locker room is “The Body” Jesse Ventura, who has an exclusive with the World Tag Team champions and the former World Heavyweight champion, Pretty Wonderful and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. With Sensuous Sherri at their sides, Jesse gets the scoop that none of the five of them have left this room since they arrived, so they weren’t behind the attack on Bagwell. Flair calls for the match to be canceled, so that he can head out on the jet plane straight into the Clash of the Champions when he gets his rematch against Hulk Hogan! But for now, it’s time to watch his best friend go to work. (B) Flair was a real star in this segment.

And work he does, as “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson wastes no time in defeating young Mark Starr with a DDT in 2:30. (C-)

“Mean” Gene is called into the ring, where “Double A” has some words for Dustin Rhodes. But first, he is joined by Tully Blanchard, who talks about how it always used to be some great times when he and Arn were beating Dustin’s daddy within an inch of his life that he can’t wait to do it to the second Rhodes. Anderson tells Dustin to look here and listen; he has Bunkhouse Buck in the ring later tonight, but just know that there are more of the Stud Stable watching… always watching. (C+) Arn and Tully both improvised well, with Gene working the crowd excellently. Colonel Parker’s presence helps both of them.

A pre-taped Gene Okerlund brings us the Clash of the Champions Special Report. He mentions new matches that have been added to the show. Lord Steven Regal will defend the TV title against Brian Armstrong, Johnny B. Badd will go up against the monstrous Vader, and a Loser Leaves Town match between Kevin Sullivan and Cactus Jack! Kevin Sullivan is shown walking through a town in Boston, where he says he got his start in this business. He tells Cactus that the biggest mistake he could have made was believing that he could think for himself, and now he must send Jack away so he can begin his long-game plans! Gene also mentions that the main event will be a Bash at the Beach rematch between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, with Hulk having some pre-recorded thoughts where he tells Ric that he knows all about him and how to beat him now, and so there’s no chance for Flair to get the win! It all goes down August 24th on TBS! (C+) Hogan was a real star in this segment. Gene should have done better, too.

A music video plays which showcases some of the high flying maneuvers and exciting personality that is “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright! The second generation German superstar is dancing his way to WCW soon! (D-)

In non-title action, Steve Austin proves himself worthy of the prize that is the United States title as he handily defeats Brady Boone, tying him up in the Hollywood & Vine for a submission victory in 2:56. Bobby notes how many ways Austin can beat a person, and he will only need two of them to pour water on “The Dragon” on the 24th. (C-) Lifting the crowd got them ready and buzzing.

In one of our featured bouts of the night, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes and Bunkhouse Buck go head to head in a knock-down, drag-out fight! These two have been at one another’s throats for months, and referee Randy Eller seems to be letting them get a few extra frustrations out on each other in this one. However, he cannot ignore when the match spills out of the ring and Dustin gets attacked by Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard! The three on one assault causes a disqualification at 7:55 for Rhodes to pick up the victory. (B-)

But the beating does not end there, as the Stud Stable members shove Dustin into the ring and begin laying into him. They take turns holding him down while strapping him with Buck’s leather belt, but the crowd goes ballistic as Dusty Rhodes rushes to the ring! He starts handing out punches and elbows to anyone in his path, finally sending the Stable out of the ring! As he helps up his son, Dusty gets a microphone.

"Come here, Dustin. And let me tell you something about Arn Anderson. Arn Anderson, my son offered up his innocence, and you paid him back in scorn. The hell with you, Arn Anderson! And to hell with you, Tully Blanchard! Tully Blanchard is just another snake in the grass, one like we made our boots out of, a man who had his time to make the right moves and couldn’t take them! Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard have never been nothin' but walk-behinders. And when you walk behind and you're not a leader, then the view never changes baby. The view never changes, baby. The view never changes.
"You have the ability to be the world's heavyweight wrestling champion. There is not a greater athlete at your age in this sport. But I ... I want to ask you a favor. I wanna ask you a favor in front of ... in front of God and the whole world. I know that the Clash of Champions on August the 24th, you put your name on the dotted line. I don't want you to look for another partner. I don't want you to go and find another man. I don't want you to go out and get on your knees and beg another scum-suckin' pig to be your partner. I'm asking you if you can carry this ol' out of shape, old bent-out, old spinly legged man ... *I* wanna be your partner! I don't need no handshake because up there right now tonight, there's ... there's people with their brothers and sisters and their wives. They are blood! The Kennedys were blood. The Earps were blood. The Rhodes are blood. I don't need a handshake. What I need now from you is just a hug and a kiss to seal the deal, baby."

And with one huge hug and one of the loudest fan reactions in wrestling history, Dustin Rhodes has a partner for the Clash of the Champions! (B-) Dusty improvised well, looking good. This angle got the crowd way hotter.

From that heartfelt moment, we go to Erik Watts in the ring, who acts like a goofball football player in a match with another guy who has a career elsewhere, The Gambler. Despite his buffoonery, Watts catches Gambler with a driving shoulder tackle into the turnbuckle, and with “Coach” Teddy Long urging him on, he makes the pin for a successful victory in 3:34. Watts does a touchdown dance after the bell has sounded. (D) Teddy did good work at ringside. As planned, this match brought the fans back down.

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with a confused and deflated Sting and The Patriot, who are without their partner. They debate on going out there alone, two on three, but unforeseen help comes in the form of… Dave Sullivan! “Evad” walks in on their interview to say that “I like Hulk-mania” before posing like “The Hulkster”. Sting says that he likes Hulkamania too, so it looks like we have a six man tag match again! (B-) Dave complained because he wanted to be off-script, but then he didn’t do well and was underwhelming. Patriot performed poorly and struggled to find a place around Dave’s non-scripting. This angle got the crowd hotter, but I’m not sure how.

Despite a slight change in the roster of the bout, our main event has some of the greatest talent in all of wrestling! Ric Flair and Pretty Wonderful take on Sting, The Patriot, and Dave “Evad” Sullivan. Early into the match, Harlem Heat come out of the backstage area and stand in the aisle, distracting Sting for a moment, but they don’t move any further. For a portion of the match, Sting and Dave are forced to watch from the outside as Patriot is triple and even quadruple teamed in the corner, helpless to do anything but keep the crowd chanting “USA” for Patriot. Finally Patriot is able to get out of there, tagging in Sting! Sting cleans house on Flair, Roma, and Orndorff, setting them all up and hitting them each with a Stinger Splash! Sting looks like he’s going to hook Roma up in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Sensuous Sherri leans into the ring and rakes his eyes! Flair rolls up the blinded Sting with a cradle, putting his feet on the ropes for good measure in order to secure a three count in 12:01! (B) Flair’s performance stood out as being good.

With the crowd booing that turn of events, Flair, Pretty Wonderful, Sherri, and even Harlem Heat take it one step further when they continue attacking their downed prey! This six on three attack is getting hard to watch, until Hulk Hogan hits the ring! He starts laying into everyone, with “The Nature Boy” and Sherri escaping relatively unscathed and leaving Orndorff, Roma, Kane, and Kole as sacrifices for “The Hulkster” to punch and big boot down to the canvas and out of the ring! With all of the villains scrambling away Hogan helps Dave Sullivan to his feet and begins posing with him as Sting keeps an eye out for anyone to come back into the ring. With the image of Hulk and “Evad” burning into your retinas, WCW Saturday Night is off the air for this week! (B+) Flair came out of this looking excellent, and Hogan’s performance was fantastic – but both Kane and Kole performed poorly, and Dave didn’t come out of this good.

Show Rating: B

The broadcast quality penalty isn’t as bad as it was previously. Dangerously is along with Sabu and 911, and Paul has a few things to say about Cactus Jack. He starts off by saying that he isn’t sure if Jack just can’t handle having lost to Sabu, or if he actually thinks he is still meaningful in the world of professional wrestling; sure, he can beat up a Sullivan or two, but who hasn’t? He calls “Mick” an old friend, which is why he didn’t want to do this to him. But if he ever steps foot in an ECW arena again, he will turn Sabu loose on him and “With God as my witness, Sabu will lay you upon the alter and sacrifice you to the heavens of hardcore wrestling!” Paul says that maybe Cactus is here on behalf of Shane Douglas, his old training buddy from back at DeNucci’s school. If he is, then he better make some calls to Eric and stay in WCW, because if Douglas is the one who let him into the building at Heatwave, then Sabu and 911 will personally lobotomize both men and cause their children to watch them stutter for the rest of their miserable lives worse than Forrest Gump looking at his first female breast! Will the same happen tonight, or will Sabu be ready for the tricks of “The Franchise”? ©

Main event time, and it seems to take place all over the arena! Shane Douglas and Sabu take to one another as if it were still July 16th at the ECW Arena, while 911 and Mr. Hughes are throwing chairs and tables around at one another like a crazy brawl at a home and gardens department! “The Franchise” goes into his boot and pulls out the chain, but he isn’t able to just hit Sabu with it and get the three count. He ends up having to use it repeatedly while also choking Sabu with his other hand! He hefts Sabu into a belly-to-belly suplex, and that finally secures the win after a grueling 11:56. © People don’t pay to see 911 in matches. Dustin is ready to get his hands on Funk tonight, while Dusty is so excited to be watching his son’s back and teaming with him for the first time in years on August 24th at the Clash of the Champions, baby! (B) Gene worked the crowd well here, and Dusty came across well.

The Guardian Angel takes on local talent Gypsy Joe, pinning him at 4:27 after the spike slam. (D+) These two just didn’t click, and the match was poorly placed as they were told to lift the crowd. Despite that, Angel came out of the match looking good.

“Mean” Gene catches some words with The Angel after the match, where he says that Ron Simmons may be big and bad, but hell so is The Guardian Angel; it’ll be three strikes and you’re out at the Clash of the Champions! (C+) Angel didn’t do well off-script; he swore! Gene worked the crowd well though, playing it off.

“Mean” Gene is pre-recorded in the Clash of the Champions Special Report, reporting changes to the card. Sting and a mystery partner will take on Harlem Heat; as you heard, Pretty Wonderful will not take on Stars ‘n Stripes anymore, however The Patriot will be there; but of course, Hulk Hogan defends the World title against Ric Flair! (B-)

Brother Bruti wastes little time to defeat Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker with the Sleeper at 2:41. (D+) The crowd weren’t peaked, so cooling them didn’t pan out well. Bruti was really messed up on drugs too.

After the match, Bruti is strutting around the ring when he’s attacked by – surprise! – it’s “The Ugandan Giant” Kamala! Kamala beats on Bruti with stomps and splashes until Hulk Hogan hits the ring to chase the savage out of the ring, before checking on his best friend along with the trainers. (B+) Kamala has debuted with Savage gimmick, which rated Great. Tony announcing was weak here, and Bruti was underwhelming, but Hulk looked like a star; all that acting talent put to good use as he cries over his friend!

A new vignette airs next with Jean-Paul Lévesque, this one with him telling everyone to tune in next week to the pinnacle of professional wrestling television, WCW Saturday Night, as it is the only place his talents deserve to be shown, to see him make his debut! ©

The next match is mostly ignored as Tony and Bobby talk about Kamala, but “Hardwork” Bobby Walker falls to “Pretty” Paul Roma when Paul Orndorff enters the ring behind Randy Eller’s back and hits Walker with his piledriver at 3:15. (C-) The crowd came around again because they worked them so well here.

Another vignette, but this one focuses on “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright, who’s debut isn’t given a time schedule but he is coming soon, we promise! (D-)

Johnny B. Badd takes on Rip Rogers in our penultimate matchup, and Badd’s unique offense is far too much for the old veteran to handle. The big Tutti Fruitty punch at 5:30 ends this bout. (C-)

After the match, Badd gets a surprise when Vader makes his way out to the ringside area! Johnny looks ready to fight, but Vader simply sizes him up before leaving. These two meet on August the 24th, only on TBS! (B-)

Tonight’s main event is what Gordon Solie would call a “wild and wooly brawl” as Dustin Rhodes goes one on one against Terry Funk. Rhodes and Funk have a crazy match against one another that goes all around ringside, but it’s when Funk has referee Nick Patrick detained that Colonel Parker shoves Dustin into the ringpost! Dustin’s bell is rung, and in his daze he walks right into a piledriver for Funk to get the very cheap victory at 12:15! (B)

Terry seems ready to really put Dustin out of the sport by looking to deliver another series of piledrivers, but Dusty Rhodes runs out to the ring to break it up! Dusty sends Funk and Parker scurrying out of the ring, but not Meng, who stands his ground despite all the punches and elbows that Dusty can hit him with! Finally a bunch of other wrestlers come out and pull the two away from one another. (B+) Dustin was a little underwhelming here, but Meng with Parker showed they are a good pairing together.

Tony and Bobby send us to a video recap of Kamala attacking Brother Bruti earlier tonight, with Tony calling it a heinous attack while “The Brain” laughs at Bruti for “getting beaten up so easily” a comment which gets a stern glare from Tony. (C+)

“Mean” Gene calls to the interview area a very distraught Hulk Hogan, who says that he doesn’t know if Ric Flair was behind the attack or if it’s someone else, but the hands who hurt his best friend will be cut off if he can get “that big, fat, ugly Kamala” in the ring! Hogan starts to say that he has to get back to check on Bruti, but his exit is blocked by Pretty Wonderful! Orndorff tells Hulk that it looks like a lot of people are getting beaten up around here, a lot of Hulk’s friends. Hogan starts to point the finger at the World Tag Team champions, but they proclaim their innocence; however, “Mr. Wonderful” says that while there are a few Hulkamaniacs out of action, he wants to put the lead one out – so he challenges Hulk to a match, one on one, next week on WCW Saturday Night! Hogan, ruled by emotion right now, immediately accepts, telling “Pretty Paula” that he’ll see him next week! (B) Hogan came out of this looking excellent, but Orndorff was very poor trying to improvise.

Show Rating: B

Broadcast quality held this show back, but we gained popularity in 7 regions.
