<p>I'm running AWF and it's time for our Battle for Los Angeles battle royal. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm using an idea I've used before that I really like, and introducing the Golden Opportunity tournament title. Basically Royal Rumble meets Money in the Bank. Win the battle royal and win a contract for a championship match anytime, anywhere.</p><p> </p><p>

This is a great opportunity to elevate someone into the main event and I have three candidates for that position:</p><p> </p><p>

</p><ul><li>Nick Hart - It's arguably been his turn for a while, and in terms of workrate and performance skills, Hart is the leader of the pack. He just dropped the tag team title so he's free to move on to the main event picture.<br /></li><li>Derrick Rollins - He's going on strong as United States Champion and winning the Golden Opportunity would be a good fit for his Ultimate Opportunity-style gimmick. <br /></li><li>Cross - He's the oldest of the three candidates and is the best talker of the bunch. Plus, he's a current tag team champion and the leader of a rising faction called The Anarchs, which includes Omri Stone and HavoK. With Silva Dolla as current champ and leader of The Dolla Club, this could lead to a fun stable war.<br /></li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p>

So who do you think would be the best choice to elevate? Who would you choose of those three?</p>

I've been toying around with starting an AWF game forever, so would honestly love to read a ton more about your save.

Now as for the question.... thinking as much about how this would play out for fans as anything else.....

Nick Hart - ready in every way, and is pretty capable of being the ace of the company, entertainment skills aside. Could see him being a multi-time world champion. This might nudge over that hump.... but is using that Golden Opportunity how you want to establish him in the top rung? Personally, I would have him work a series of one-on-one matches with other top talent and even if he isn't winning all of them, the sheer quality of those matches would put him on that level. I've typically used him as the "old school honorable" type, so a shortcut doesn't fit as much with that. Realize your take on him is likely different.

Derrick Rollins - it does fit with his gimmick. That said, he's already doing good things with the US title (I assume) and has time on his side. Being the ultimate opportunist, he can definitely find other opportunities. Heck, you could even have him try to win the Golden Opportunity from whoever does win it, setting up a small feud.

Cross - probably my choice because it fits gimmick wise. He probably doesn't NEED it to get over that hump, same as Nick Hart. But it definitely slides him into there, and even if he uses it to win the title but only gets a short run, he becomes more valuable as a former world champion.

Ideally, all three will probably end up elevated at some point. Not that the AWF main event scenes needs immediate turnover, but those guys seem to climb. So you could even look at it as who helps you the most in the short term (3 to 6 months)?

I'm playing AWF as owner Terry Thunder.

In my alternate version of the Dark Days event, Trillion sold out but it was Thunder who stepped forward. Determined to return to the bright lights of professional wrestling, Thunder saw an opportunity to do so by seizing the reins of AWF.

In my personal canon, Thunder leveraged his stardom and media presence via shows like "Thunder Hips" into the formation of a media empire, "The Thunder Network," and he looked at AWF as the new crown jewel of that empire.

(Mainly, I wanted to own my own network so I could give FAW a TV show, but I like the idea.)

The networks were all to happy to cut the suddenly controversial AWF loose and so Shockwave and it's B-show Aftershock have been airing on the Thunder Network for three months now.

Booking wise, I kept all the existing storylines intact. Hawk continued to feud with Dolla, Rollins and South had their best of five series, and Cross had just successfully unmasked Core.

But with Thunder coming in as a new owner I wanted to found a heel faction that would rebel against Thunder and everything he represents, and Cross, Omri Stone and HavoK seemed like a good fit for that. So now they're the Anarchs, a thorn in Thunder's side. The Specialists stepped in as the wholesome, clean cut Thunder proxies, and a tag team feud was born.

Core, meanwhile, has gone unhinged since losing his mask, in a storyline I called "Unmasked and unleashed," where he ran roughshod over the locker room and particularly Immortal Warrior, who returned to stand up to Core.

The only major addition I made was the creation of an X Division. I transformed El Angel's Trillion Dollar Title into an X Division title, and hired a handful of workers to join Ricky Fyre and Mario Neri in fleshing it out. The biggest name was VIP.

My current storylines are an extended feud between Patriot and Jean-Claude Giroux, your standard American Hero Face vs your slimy French heel storyline that'll take up the front half of 2016; a brutal feud between Timothy Hawk and Core, Core the unstoppable monster and Hawk the hero who never says die; a "lone wolf takes on the pack" storyline featuring Garrett South taking on the Dolla Club to challenge Silva Dolla for the World Championship; the aforementioned feud between the Specialists and the Anarchs; a feud between the new Television Champion Tyshawn Kidd and The Mountain (Albert), with Kidd being a hot new star set for great things down the line; a cocky young champion disrespects his veteran opponent storyline with Derrick Rollins as the champion and Shay Kinsella as the challenger; a three-way X Division title feud between El Angel (the former champ), VIP (the current champ) and Ricky Fyre (former best friend of the champ); and a feud between Mariana and Alexis Funk, with Mariana turned face and working a Cultural Hero gimmick focused on her hardscrabble upbringing on the streets of Rio and Funk completely disrespecting Mariana's culture.

<p>I would pick Nick Hart, being Derrick Rollins the last elimination, because is a big middle finger to Shane Allman! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Inspired by NJPW G1 Climax winner road to Wrestle Kingdom, Hart, being a legitimate athlete and man of honor, chooses to cash in his Golden Opportunity in a 1 on 1 match in the main event at Wrestlefest. Terry Thunder agrees only for this time, but he sets up a few high risk, high reward perks: </p><p> </p><p>

1) The Golden Opportunity holder will have for sure the spot Nick Hart has requested;</p><p> </p><p>

2) Nick Hart must defend his Golden Opportunity by fighting in every PPV in 1 on 1 matches; </p><p> </p><p>

3) At Chaos Reign Supreme and Mayday Melee will be held the 1 on 1 bout and at Cage Of Rage, it will be a 1 on 1 Cage Classic match;</p><p> </p><p>

4) No outside interferences are allowed and the offender will receive one month suspension and the exclusion from Wrestlefest;</p><p> </p><p>

5) Every PPV Hart will challenge a different opponent;</p><p> </p><p>

6) If Nick Hart will lose, he will have a rematch to regain the Golden Opportunity on the next PPV unless he loses on Cage Rage;</p><p> </p><p>

7) If Nick Hart loses the rematch, he will not fight at Wrestlefest.</p>

Well between most of the votes here favoring Rollins and the fact that a check of his Popularity revealed he went from B-/C+ across the US in January to B+/A across the US in March tells me maybe I need to back him for the Golden Opportunity. Guy has a rocket strapped to his ass, it seems.

<p>Curious to know if he manages to get up to A*. If he's not that far away now....</p><p> </p><p>

Appreciate the recap. Love reading stuff like that. </p><p> </p><p>

I've been rolling with a WCW 2002 save for a bit, and I'm enjoying it. But I've been getting itch to do something else, and the ThunderVerse is awful appealing. But its hard to pick the promotion lol. The AWF is my go-to, so reading recap of what you've done, Sig, was rather inspiring. But I don't always love certain aspects about booking the AWF. I know they are a transformative point, so it makes sense that one could make fairly drastic changes if they so desired. But I've never loved doing a mass overhaul of a company right from the start. </p><p> </p><p>

I also tried out PWI for the first time on the previous TV edition and I've taken quite a liking. I like the more serious product, even if I find SE easier to book. I mostly like the changes to the roster. But I always feel a bit limited by the overlording Allman. Deviating from his "vision" feels wrong, but holding too it to much feels limiting. Its an entirely self-made issue but its what I run into. </p><p> </p><p>

The other option I've explored - probably purely down to watching through Progress Wrestling Chapters 1 through 46 in the past few months - is starting up a custom company. Using Casey Skym and opening it up in game at the biggest possible size, I can put together a really strong roster of workers I would love to build up and I can get both TV and PPV from day one. I started a save doing this, but got overly concerned with debuting gimmicks for an entire roster being a pain and never went further. </p><p> </p><p>

This should probably go in the Tverse thread proper, but I figure more Tverse talk is never a bad thing....</p>

No mass firings, conservative hiring. Kellie King got sent to development as a reaction to the heat on her for being a homewrecker; I figured she needed some distance from Hawk so he doesn't suffer blowback (ah, sexism in wrestling). I hired a handful of wrestlers to flesh out the X Division but otherwise it's just been course correction in the wake of Dark Days. The biggest disruption was the network change, but I figure if there's a time to make such a jump, it's when the company is already something of a political hot potato.</p><p> </p><p> Glad you like the writeup, your writeups frequently serve as an inspiration for me. Here's hoping you find your T-Verse groove soon.</p>

<p>Just wanted to provide an update on my final booking for the Battle for Los Angeles.</p><p> </p><p>

First, two major threats to win, Timothy Hawk and Core, were pulled at the last second after both men were (kayfabe) injured in their brutal Empty Arena Match brawl taped before the show went live. </p><p> </p><p>

In the match itself, Tyshawn Kidd (Television Champion) set the record for longest time in the match; Towerblock got the most eliminations; Nick Hart was the last man eliminated; Patriot and Cross were finalists; and, finally, Derrick Rollins won the match.</p><p> </p><p>

When I first booked the match, I had Cross set to win, which drew objections from Rollins, Patriot, Jean-Claude Giroux and a creative control veto from VIP. While I could assuage VIP's ego with protective booking, I realized that Cross just *isn't* there right now. This just wasn't the right venue for him to elevate. </p><p> </p><p>

Rollins was over enough only Patriot and VIP complained, and they were easily ignored and dealt with, respectively. </p><p> </p><p>

I knew I made the right choice when Rollins' post-match celebration angle rated A*.</p><p> </p><p>

My plan for Rollins is to have him make a last-second cash-in at WrestleFest. Until then, he and Hart, the runner up, will feud.</p><p> </p><p>

The first show of April, Rollins will come out and call out Hawk, calling him a coward and demanding he come out so Rollins can beat him like he beat 29 other wrestlers. This conveniently ignores the fact Hawk is kayfabe recovering from injuries. Finally, Hart will answer the call and the rest is future history.</p>

Did you find a way to get his skills up or did you just work around it? </p><p> </p><p> I'm still mulling my next save. going back and forth between AWF, PWI, and TCW in the Cverse. And then I keep looking at some historical mods too. Can't quite settle on what kinda of save I even want to start to narrow it down.</p>

But I brought Theo Barkley into the Dolla Club to replace Mo Fury (who got sent to developmental after half the roster complained he doesn't know how to work) and so I'll probably pair Barkley and Tyrannus up as a tag team as a way to cover Tyrannus' weaknesses until he's trained up enough.</p>

Fury's contract is almost up. He was written off the main show when Garrett South beat him down as part of his effort to pick off members of the Dolla Club in a storyline I've called "Lone Wolf Takes On The Pack," and when I get his 28 day notice I'll look at his performance in FAW and make a decision whether to cut or keep him.</p><p> </p><p> Just having Tyrannus stand around being Menacing has done wonders for his popularity, so pretty soon I should be able to let him start wrestling without tanking the match he's in.</p>
