- Hopefully Sting's morale didn't take a hit on that loss. I like Storm and am glad to see he's getting in the main events now, but I don't see Sting dropping the title to him, especially on Nitro.</p><p> </p><p>

The video ends with footage of Storm pinning Sting during their match last week, albeit not without aid from "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and his lead pipe. The question is; will we crown a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion before the night is over? <strong>(B)</strong></p><p> </p><p> As the video comes to an end we find ourselves at the announce table where Tony Schiavone, "The Professor" Mike Tenay and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan are ready to call the action as always. He says that nobody would be in this building tonight to watch Rey and every other young punk on the roster if it wasn't for guys like DDP putting in the work to make it happen. Page says that Rey thinks he's gonna steal the spotlight from him, but that ain't happening. Page says that he is still the man and he doesn't give a damn what Rey, Gene, or anybody else thinks because if anyone's got a problem with him...they can just step into the ring and do something about it. Gene asks what DDP is talking about when he talks about respect, and Page explains that when he faced Rey in the ring a couple of weeks ago for the United States Championship, he realized that a lot of the fans were cheering for Rey. Page says that he has put his blood, sweat, and tears into this company, and now someone like Rey thinks he's gonna steal the spotlight from him? Page says that when he talks about respect, what he really means is the LACK of respect that he has been shown by Rey Misterio Jr. and the fans. But like he said before, his time in the spotlight is far from over and if anyone wants to try and take it from him...well, all they have to do is look at Rey to see what happens. <strong>©</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="waG19mm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/waG19mm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Gc4aCsx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Gc4aCsx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dNLwm1L.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dNLwm1L.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Elsewhere in the back, Chris Kanyon, Mike Awesome, and Stacy Keibler are walking when suddenly...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="lPwVnNo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/lPwVnNo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Bam Bam Bigelow shows up again. Chuck Palumbo does the same in turn, leaving Sean O'Haire in the back as well, and we get a straight up one on one matchup between these two men--at least for a little while. The match goes back and forth, with the veteran Luger taking advantage of every shortcut he can find, while Chuck Palumbo relies on a mix of strength and agility to stay in the match. Booker then hands the mic to Rey, who says that DDP has got it all wrong. He says that he has a ton of respect for DDP--in fact, he had nothing but respect for him right up until he stabbed him in the back. Rey says that he'll be Booker's tag team partner next week, and that the two of them will teach Page and Nash a few things about respect. Once in the ring, and after reminding everyone that he's "The Chosen One" and the one will all the stroke around here, Jarrett gets to the point; he's got a challenge for "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Jarrett says that he is sick and tired of Savage sticking his nose into his business and with Starrcade coming up...Double J and Eric Bischoff came up with a plan to take care of the Savage problem once and for all. Jarrett says that Bischoff has agreed to grant Savage one more shot at the World Title IF he can beat "The Chosen One" at Starrcade... but in order to get that match, Savage has to put something on the line as well....his career! Jarrett pauses for a moment to allow the shock and surprise of that challenge to linger for a bit, and then he adds that the offer expires as soon as they leave the ring, so take it or leave it! <strong>(B+)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="TTtujDA.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TTtujDA.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> After a few moments of waiting, "Macho Man" Randy Savage's music hits and Savage makes his way out from the back to stand on the stage. Savage takes a moment to soak in the cheers from the crowd, and then he says that when he came back, he came back with one goal in mind; to become the WCW World Champion one more time, ohh yeah! Savage says that Jarrett not only robbed him of that opportunity, he stole the Tag Team Titles from him as well. Savage says that there is nothing he won't do to get another shot at the World Title, just like there is nothing he won't do to be able to wrap his hands around Jarrett's throat, so he'll agree to put his career on the line at Starrcade--HOWEVER, he wants a stipulation of his own. Savage says that if he's gonna put his career on the line, it's gonna go down between him and Jarrett and no one else. "No Luger, no Bagwell, no Bischoff...just you...and me!" he says to Jarrett. The crowd seems to like that, and Savage continues by saying that he wants their match at Starrcade to be...a Steel Cage match! Bobby Heenan quickly adds that if Storm beats him tonight, Sting will definitely regret giving him the opportunity he did. After surviving an initial flurry from the World Champion, Lance Storm goes back to the strategy that worked so well for him last week as he focuses in on Sting's left leg, pulling and stretching it in various submission holds. This works for a while, but even on one good leg, Sting is still a tough man to beat and the World Champion fights his way back into the match, though it is clear that the work done by Storm on Sting's left leg over the last two weeks is slowing him down and limiting his movement. This is all to clear when Sting leapfrogs Storm, but as he lands on the mat he immediately grabs his leg, which Storm quickly takes advantage of with a chop block from behind to take Sting off his feet. Storm tries to apply the Canadian Maple Leaf, but Sting is able to fight him off before he can do so. Also, I'm kinda thrilled that you mentioned The Cat's push because that push and his feud with Flair has become a bit of a personal favorite of mine, so it's great to see it get some mention.

Just like the conversation about realism going on over in my thread, I find it very realistic that Miller, Totally Buff, and the Mamalukes are getting a push here. A lot of 2001 games would just look at these guys' stats and job them off the map, but WCW were really pushing them in 2000. There's no reason to believe (and, of course, no evidence to the contrary) that they wouldn't have continued to do so if they kept living through 2001. Now, I can't say I'm not guilty of letting Ernest become a bit of a JTTS, but here's your game propping him up so well in ways that mine doesn't.

Some people give Ernest Miller a main event feud, others give Konnan a championship. :p Now for predictions...

Sting - One thing I think we can all agree on though, is that Rick Steiner tends to not win when against the big names.

The Insiders - The newfound heelness of Nash and Page secures them a (not so squeaky clean) victory.

Sean O'Haire

Chavo Guerrero Jr - Chavito's time to shine.

Kanyon and Awesome - Who's more Awesome than Kanyon? NOBODY

Sting says that what Scott calls "screwing with him", he calls being a good champion--a fighting champion. Sting is about to continue, but then Scott cuts him off, saying that if Sting wants to be a fighting champion, how about a fight tonight between him and "The Dog-faced Gremlin"? Rick starts barking as Scott lays out the challenge, which Sting accepts, saying that it looks like it's going to be showtime tonight! He says that not only is he not afraid of Flair, but Flair better be afraid of him and stay out of his way because, senior citizen or not, he's got no problem kicking his false teeth down his throat! "The Cat" and Miss Jones then walk off and Gene, looking appalled by the disrespect shown by "The Cat", sends us back to ringside for some more in-ring action here on Monday Nitro. <strong>(C+)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="tjPJopW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tjPJopW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="epiwJ9r.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/epiwJ9r.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="rxMZSbm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rxMZSbm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="1S9VfKR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1S9VfKR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> With "The Total Package" Lex Luger and Chuck Palumbo both at ringside for this one, the referee has his work cut out for him in regards to keeping order, especially given the fact that Totally Buff have been known to bend and break the rules at every opportunity. This is a good match for as long as it lasts, which unfortunately isn't as long as it probably would have, had Lex Luger not decided to get involved. After Luger hits O'Haire from behind when the referee's back is turned, Chuck Palumbo goes after Luger, causing quite the distraction at ringside. Amidst this distraction, "Buff Daddy" hits a low blow on Sean O'Haire and rolls him up from behind, grabbing hold of his tights for good measure, and just like that the Tag Team Champions steal another victory here tonight.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Buff Bagwell defeated Sean O'Haire at 7.34 by pinfall with a roll-up after hitting a low blow </strong><strong><strong>(B-)</strong></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The match is over and Buff Bagwell has stolen a victory against Sean O'Haire, but there is no time for "Buff Daddy" to celebrate as Chuck Palumbo immediately slides into the ring to chase Bagwell off, but it's obvious that both Palumbo and O'Haire are frustrated at having been one-upped once again by Totally Buff. Sanders says that they've got no problem giving them another beating at Starrcade if they want it so badly, and who knows, maybe this time they'll actually be able to knock some sense into that thick skull of Animal's. Once Savage is in the ring, Bischoff goes through the stipulations again, noting that if Savage wins he'll get another shot at the World Championship, but if he loses...then he must retire from professional wrestling! Jeff Jarrett signs the contract first, saying that he's looking forward to retiring Savage at Starrcade, which will be one more accomplishment on the ever-growing list of accomplishments for "The Chosen One". Before signing as well, Savage gets on the mic and tells Jarrett that even though he wants nothing more than rip Jarrett apart right here, right now, he's not gonna let him off that easy. Savage reminds Jarrett that it will be just him and the "Macho Man" locked inside a Steel Cage at Starrcade, with no one there to help Jarrett. The thought of being locked in a cage with Savage does seem to make Jarrett rather uneasy, as Tony Schiavone points out. Savage then signs the contract and tells Jarrett that he'll see him at Starrcade! <strong>(A)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="Z1DlA0N.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z1DlA0N.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="zah6nFe.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zah6nFe.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Following the contract signing, we cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair says that he heard what "The Cat" said earlier but actions speak louder than words and if "The Cat" truly isn't afraid of "The Nature Boy", then how about finally showing the guts to step into the ring with him at Starrcade? Flair tells "The Cat" that he can run but he can't hide and sooner or later he will get what's coming to him, so why not be a man and show up for a fight at the biggest event of the year? WOOO!!!! As Flair walks off, "Mean" Gene notes that Ric Flair just laid out the challenge, but will "The Cat" be man enough to put his money where his mouth is at Starrcade? <strong>(C-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="O9mmnFa.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O9mmnFa.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan comes down to the ring, and it seems like he's in a pretty good mood tonight. Duggan's expression changes as well as the Dragons approach the ring. The Dragons beat "Hacksaw" down until enough referees arrive in the ring to separate them, but it looks like this issue is far from over. Tony and Mike both complain about the Dragons' antics here, but Bobby Heenan defends them, saying that "Hacksaw" shouldn't have been out here bragging about screwing the Dragons over last week. <strong>(D)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> We swing by the announce table where Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Bobby Heenan are still debating what just happened, but the focus soon turns to what's coming up next as The Insiders will team up to take on the team of Booker T and the WCW United States Champion, Rey Misterio Jr. They briefly talk about how this match came together last week with Nash and Page issuing the challenge, and they also hype up the individual issues between Nash and Booker T and between DDP and Rey Misterio Jr. Tony then sends us back to ringside for a huge tag team match! <strong>(B-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="O6ChwMw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6ChwMw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qnDHH19.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qnDHH19.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="YiAV5xv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YiAV5xv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="hH12gGz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hH12gGz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> It looks like we're going to start off with Booker T and DDP here, but DDP doesn't want Booker--he wants Rey Misterio Jr.! The referee issues a warning, which "Big Sexy" looks like he couldn't care less about, and the cheap shot puts the Insiders in firm control of the match. Their control breeds confidence, but confidence eventually turns to frustration as they are unable to put Rey away, and Rey is able to not only survive, but to make it to Booker T for the hot tag. Booker is absolutely on fire and he is beating the hell out of both Nash and DDP, nailing each man with a harlem sidekick, then a flapjack on DDP, and then finally the big axe kick on Kevin Nash! Booker spin-a-roonie's his way back to his feet and calls for the Bookend, but while the referee is distracted by DDP, Nash surprises Booker with a low blow!

Very true. I also find that I quite enjoy the challenge of trying to do something with those guys instead of just writing them off.

Of course Animal has a partner to make it a six man tag. Isn't it obvious?

Tony, along with Mike Tenay and Bobby Heenan, also hype up the huge match between Jarrett and "Macho Man" Randy Savage which will take place at Starrcade with Randy Savage's career on the line. Once in the ring, Eric Bischoff gets on the mic and says that as the owner of WCW, it is his duty to ensure that everyone gets their money's worth and that everyone gets a fair shot (the last part he says with a smug grin on his face, naturally). As such, Bischoff says that he has no choice but to ban Randy Savage from the building tonight because Jarrett has a match later tonight and they do not trust Savage not to get involved. Jarrett takes over and says that Randy will get what's coming to him at Starrcade, but tonight he can get a little preview of what his life will be like after Starrcade when he's sitting at home, retired. Stasiak then hits the Perfect Plant on Vito and picks up the win while Jindrak prevents The Bull from breaking up the pin.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak defeated The Mamalukes at 5.33 by pinfall when Stasiak pinned Vito following a Perfect Plant after first hitting a low blow (C-)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="v70H8HK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/v70H8HK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="6eOQ29A.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6eOQ29A.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The Invaders have put one over on the Mamalukes here tonight, but they don't get much time to celebrate as Hugh Morrus and Road Wariror Animal charge the ring. Sanders, Jindrak and Stasiak escape before anything can come of it, but once at a safe distance from the ring, Mike Sanders grabs a mic and tells Morrus and Animal that not only did they accept their challenge for a match at Starrcade last week, but Sanders also tells them to enjoy their Starrcade experience because it will be their last once they get through with them. As the Invaders disappear into the back, the announcers ponder the question that still lingers; who is going to be Hugh Morrus and Road Warrior Animal's partner at Starrcade? <strong>(C-)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44117" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p> </p><p> <img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="e0KbmYl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e0KbmYl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> It is almost main event time, and The Steiner Brothers and Midajah make their way out from the back and down to the ring for the match. But before Dustin Rhodes comes down, Scott gets on the mic first and says that he heard what Sting said earlier tonight and he advices Sting to keep talking because he fights like a little b!tch! Scott says that after he takes out that piece of trash Dustin Rhodes, he's gonna party all night long with his freaks here in Florida, and as far as Sting is concerned, he take spend some time booking himself a nice vacation here in Florida because once "The Genetic Freak" breaks every bone in his body at Starrcade, he's gonna have plenty of time to soak up some sun while "The Big Bad Booty Daddy" destroys everyone in his path. Scott then tells Dustin Rhodes to bring his ass to the ring and take his beating like a man! <strong>(A)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="aiJ3oYx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aiJ3oYx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />w/<img alt="e0KbmYl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/e0KbmYl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ijZDMft.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ijZDMft.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />vs.<img alt="xeqPtl1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xeqPtl1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> This is WCW after all, so once again the odds are stacked against a babyface in the main event of Monday Nitro as Dustin Rhodes not only has to take on "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, but he has to do so with both Rick Steiner and Midajah at ringside. Dustin is a fighter, however, and potentially a future main eventer in WCW, and he doesn't back down from Steiner here. It is a good match that sees Dustin hold his own for a bit, which is no easy feat to accomplish against "The Genetic Freak", but in the end Scott is just too good, too strong, and despite a heroic effort, Rhodes eventually falls victim to the Steiner Recliner and he has no choice but to submit.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Scott Steiner defeated Dustin Rhodes at 9.05 by submission with the Steiner Recliner (B)</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The match is over but Scott Steiner is once again refusing to release the Recliner. The referee knows that he has no chance in hell of forcing Scott to break it, so all he can do is plead with "Big Poppa Pump" to please release the hold, which doesn't seem to have much of an effect on Scott, who keeps the Recliner locked in and Rhodes is fading fast. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="7PSSM69.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7PSSM69.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The crowd suddenly erupts with cheers as Sting runs down to the ring and a huge brawl erupts between the two men who will headline Starrcade. It is an even fight until "The Dog-faced Gremlin" Rick Steiner joins the brawl as well, turning it into a two on one battle, and for the second week in a row, Nitro comes to an end with the WCW World Heavyweight Champion locked in the Steiner Recliner in the middle of the ring! <strong>(B+)</strong></p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Final Show Rating: B+</strong></p><p><strong> TV Rating: 1.87</strong></p><p><strong> Show increased popularity in 10 regions</strong></p>
