Ring of Honor....Six Years Early

Recommended Posts

Why wait until 2002?

The year is 1996. It's June, and a new promotion has been born. Ring of Honor wrestling. Mogul John Harper, long time wrestling fan has decided to throw his hat into the game and form Ring of Honor wrestling. The name says it all, Harper hoped to create a promotion centered around pride and honor, with athletics were more important than popularity. Harper wants to start a company filled with the best athletes on the planet. But how was he going to do that? But who would join this company.

John Harper was always very aggressive and was very straight forward. That is why he asked for a meal with Paul Heyman to discuss an alliance between the two promotions. After Heyman heard about the promotion, and was impressed by Harper's business skill, he accepted the offer and they starting a working agreement.

But now it was time for ROH to stock up on some talent. Harper's first big signing was Brad Armstrong, a Great in Ring worker who suffered from his lack of Mic and charisma skills, making him a perfect fit for the ROH Style. After that he followed it up with the pick up of Ultimo Dragon, who he convinced to work for less than 1k an appearance. Keep in mind that Harper put in 30,000 cash for seed money, due to his wealth, but was determined to use only that money and to see if he could make a profit.

Here is a list of all the signings made by ROH Wrestling

Brad Armstrong: 990$ Per Apearence

Ultimo Dragon: 980$ per Appearence

Dave Finaly 940$ Per Apearence

From my limited experience I would say don't try and do too much too fast to where you burn yourself out. Don't worry too much about the lack of any sort of response as a lack of interest very few comment but there are always readers.

John Harper awoke to a phone call from Paul Heyman. Heyman sounded shocked and angry. A few days ago Harper has made a deal with ECW, Brad Armstrong and Ultimo Dragon for Eight Appearances of Taz. Well apparently, Ultimo had suffered from a Hernia. He would be out for 5 mounts. Heyman said none of his employers have offered to pay for surgery. Harper then knew what he had to do. Harper payed for Ultimo's surgery. The doctors described the operation as low risk and very low chance of failure. Harper waited anxiously from his office, doing busy work preparing for ROH's first show death before Dishonor. Then, he got a phone call, again from Paul.

There were complications in the Surgery, Dragon would be out for an extra mounth. Harper was angry, he was one amazing performer short, but he needed to press on if he wanted Death Before Dishonor to be a sucsess.

He signed Jerry Lynn to a contract, and officially has the ROH belts made. The Pure title, the tag titles and the world title. Harper sent out the roster to put up flyers all around Baltimore, with the headline main event, Brad Armstrong vs Dave Finaly.

It was time to get to work, because ROH's first show was just around the corner....

ANGLE (48/D+)

After Taz had attacked Brad and Dave, the Pitbulls busted through security through the crowd, with ECW shirts on. John Harper comes out and tells them to leave and has security behind him. The Pitbulls destroy the security, and Taz chokes out Harper. Taz grabs the mic and says he docent care about honor, he cares about violence, and that ROH will never beat ECW, and that you should get ready for a extreme invasion!

Taz then takes a bottle of spray paint and paints ECW over the ROH logo. Taz and ECW have officially ruined the first ever ROH show

He says that Harper should put those ROH tag titles on the line in a tag title match, ECW's best vs ROH's best.

The ECW security clear the ROH security and hold Brad Armstrong back.

Taz is in the ring with Bob Armstrong, and he yells at Brad, "Don't mess with the big dogs!" He then locks Bob in the Tazmission. Brad yells as Bob passes out. Taz puts a foot on Bob's chest and raises the belt, as Brad has a murders look in his eye.

In a decent match (D/46), Mr.ECW defeated La Parka in 14:22 by submission.

Brad Anderson is backstage. He looks into the camera with a look filled with anger

Angle: (D-/39)

Brad: "Taz, I don't care if you hurt me. You can Spray Paint, beat up security, and beat the hell out of the commissioner all you want. But when you mess with my family, you have entered a zone of pure pain and suffering the likes you have never seen! Taz, I will put you in a figure four, and I will not let go until your legs are broken and you can never walk again, so help me god! Taz, this has gone past ECW vs ROH. This is War."

Taz goes to attack Bob, but Brad nails him with a German! Paul goes to hit Brad, but John Harper runs to the ring and hits Paul with a briefcase. Brad grabs Taz's legs, Bob grabbed Mr.ECW's and John grabed Paul's. The three then lock in figure four leglocks.

The three celebrate in the ring, as the crowd chants "ROH"

Show Rating: 56/C-

Harper got a call from Paul Heyman. Apparently, RVD had quit ECW. He was offered a big money deal from AJPW and he accepted. But the loan ECW gave ROH was still in play, so ROH has RVD for the remained of his loan. This was amazing news, considering that if RVD left it would screw up the Pure Title Tournament.

One night John Harper got a call from Paul Heyman. It was not very pleasant. Due to ROH's surge in popularity due to the success of the ECW invasion story line, ECW could no long work with ROH. ROH was now a direct competitor to ECW, so talent trades are off the table. Paul would still allow the two to sign each others workers, and was fine with the continuing of the ECW story line, but there would be no more trading of talent.

Even though in the long run the move was not disastrous for ROH, and Paul swore the move was not personal, John still was hurt. He felt that Paul was his friend, and that Paul had betrayed their friendship. Friendship or not, John had a show to run, with or without talent trading. Paul agreed to continue to appear at ROH events for now, but it was unknown how long, him, and his talent were willing to stay.
