Is this the year the Internet became stupid?

K-Nection

Recommended Posts

I Suppose K-Nection does raise some interesting points. As long as they are indeed providing a service and supporting them means that said service will be running, it's kinda like selling their stuff, so they are effectively selling a service and no one is forced to pay. I would still buy TEW if Adam went independent and would back it up if It was within my possibilities. Because he would be providing a service that I want. It's not like he would be asking money to sit in his couch all day, something would come out of it and a service would be delivered and payed. At the end of the day, the key is that people are not force to donate. So those who want donate, those who do not want, don't donate. Simple.

For the record: I love the kickstarter concept, but imo its not ideal to give the producer the money beforehand. Some cases have proven this to be detrimental. Money is a motivator. That’s also why preordering is a bad idea.

Which means you will still have to additionally pay for the game when it comes out, as it has happened before. That's why some people say it's sleazy.

Let's call it an "investment" then. It carries a risk that the product/service won't payoff for the investors.

I think the Early Release model (see Spike Chunsoft with Fire Pro Wrestling World) will be more popular going forward. The company makes the initial investment and provides a partly-formed product at a discounted price. Early "testers" jump onboard and the company provides regular updates before releasing the full game at standard price. Then if interest is high and they are smart they cash in with paid DLC <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

As a negative counterpoint, No Man's Sky was basically Early Release (because Hello Games ran out of money) but without the discounted price because it was never intended to be and they failed to disclose the fact upon release. Since then the money received from sales has funded further development of the game.

Just logged in to see the reaction to the rumble, though this post was interesting.

The YouTube thing is looking more disgraceful every day. Some other avenues are emerging though, I think amazon being one of them - granted it will likely be more of the same there. The funniest thing I've seen is some people testing it politically and saying things offensive to the left, and then making a video offensive to the right and guess which gets monetized....

The patreon fee thing I hadn't heard about, and holy !@#!@$ regarding the $400 photo bucket thing. wow. I think I have maybe 6 photos, if I do nothing are they closing my account, or will they try to charge me?

As for the WWE Network, I have no cable, and everyone I liked in TNA is gone, and most are in WWE aside from Lashley (is he in TNA/GFW/Impact/creepy owl wrestling/Who remembers, or just MMA now?), so it just condenses all of my viewing/listening into one place and I'll keep it for a while for that reason. The cost isn't so bad, but the delay is annoying for the raw and smackdown episodes, though there was a survey about paying more to get those on time. I just don't get the strategy of trying to sell me on a PPV that I haven't seen the lead up to (no i didn't watch it tonight, I'm still pre Christmas on the lead up). But then I guess the joke is on me if I don't cancel since they get paid anyhow

You just can't use them for image posting unless you pay them $400.

Yeah when I was watching regularly it was frustrating to not be able to watch RAW and Smackdown on the network. If you ask me they should be charging slightly more to show these on time.

I for one will never watch it on TV here as it's in french and I loathe everything that is dubbed. I can do with torrents but I'd rather not.
