Russian names

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I absolutely love the WMMA series and I happen to be Russian.

Would it be possible to have a separate Russian name category?

Most of the fighter names generated for Russian fighters would be quite rare in Russia, with lots of Polish and Southern Slavic names coming up.

It is also very jarring to have a Eurasian category, considering that Central Asians would never have a lot of the Russian names.

Otherwise, would you be interested if I at least edited the names in the default database and added some new ones?

Seriously, that is what I have to keep telling myself every time I see unusual name combos.

But I guess it's an issue that can't really be fixed, or else where do you draw the line? The developers would have to at least double the number of countries for naming purposes to avoid people picking up on errors. (Don't even get me started on some of the Asian names.) When you've got a game that does well to simulate realism, it's impossible to get anywhere near real world naming systems. For example, there are only between 200-300 Korean surnames on the planet, yet the prevalence of the top 5 names would probably outnumber all the rest of them put together. How do you capture that in a game that assigns a name at random? Not to mention Korean names are mixed with Vietnamese in the DB.

So the best thing to do is to edit the one region that bothers you too much, (I just used Russian names for 'Eurasian' names), and try not to take the rest too seriously. I don't think the system can be fixed without a substantial overhaul. If Adam's kind enough to separate Russian names from Eurasian names, you can bet another person will complain in a week's time that Bulgaria should be kept separate from Croatia, (or Jamaica from Cuba), or something like that.

There's also the issue with African names and African American names...

Canadians are apparently a weird mix of American first names and French last names??? Which is far from the truth......

The Eurasian option is too generic for such a wide variety of different names, balkan states all have different name constructions, and a huge one that is outright confusing is having Israeli names mixed into the Middle Eastern option and hell even Bulgarians have more of a Russian influence when it comes to last names.

Honestly if the Canadian naming was just modified to how USA is done it would be fine! Same with the Eurasian option I end up just adding Russian names into my database so I'm not getting this weird Georgian/Russian/Kazakh/Armenian name mixing.
