First Round Tournament Match: Diamond Dallas Page vs Dean Malenko

Comment: Booker ain't laying down so early

First Round Tournament Match: Jeff Jarrett vs Meng

Comment: Realistically, Meng would no sell a guitar shot, but in kayfabe that should be enough to give Jeff a 1-2-3.

First Round Tournament Match: Terry Funk vs Scott Steiner

Comment: Funker is broken down already, Steiner's got this. Can't wait for him to start raising hell backstage :D

Comment: New tag team with two good workers. I see them winning easily against two veterans.</p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: <strong>Diamond Dallas Page</strong> vs Dean Malenko</p><p>

Comment: This should be a great match. DDP books himself to go over.</p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: <strong>Jeff Jarrett</strong> vs Meng</p><p>

Comment: Meng is tough, but I think Jarrett is the sensible pick. I see him going pretty far in this tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: Terry Funk vs <strong>Scott Steiner</strong></p><p>

Comment: Both guys are great. Steiner, will go further in this new era.</p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs <strong>Rey Misterio Jr.</strong></p><p>

Comment: I would love to see Bam Bam win, but I wouldn't be shocked if some drugs found a way into him. It's really a reason he won't get a push sadly. Rey is going to be a top star so he gets the win.</p><p> </p><p>

Comments On Nitro: Russo was a nice swerve since everybody thought he was fired. Bret Hart and Kidman match was great like I expected. Scott Hall will struggle for you, bad morale and possible drug issues sadly. Ric Flair will always be the man, hoping he makes it to the finals or at least gets to face Benoit and/or Bret in this tournament. Benoit and Guerrero under performed big time. I think Chavo is at that level and Benoit kind of sunk down to his level for the match. Hope he rises to the occasion against the best wrestlers in the WCW.</p>

<p><strong>Lex Luger and Shane Douglas </strong>vs Jim Duggan and Norman Smiley</p><p>

Comment:<em>An interesting choice of partners. I think Luger is certainly best utilised in the tag team division at this point in his career, little surprised to see Douglas as his partner, he would make a solid US Title contender....and is the type of wrestler that could really make the TV Title his own, good on the mic, decent in the ring....instantly dislikable enough that the fans would be desperate for someone to take the title off him after a long reign.....but enough of that, Totally Franchised win this one</em></p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: <strong>Diamond Dallas Page </strong>vs Dean Malenko</p><p>

Comment:<em>Page ain't booking himself out of the tournament this early, plus the losers here go for the TV Title right? Malenko would be a good choice for that</em></p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: <strong>Jeff Jarrett</strong> vs Meng</p><p>

Comment:<em>Meng is a badass.....this ain't a shoot fight though (luckily for Jeff) and the Chosen One is going a lot further than this</em></p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: Terry Funk vs <strong>Scott Steiner</strong></p><p>

Comment:<em>Surprised you didn't have Funk in that Hardcore Title match....but either way he's not winning here.....Scotty might not be World Champion material just yet, but he won't be far away</em></p><p> </p><p>

First Round Tournament Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs <strong>Rey Misterio Jr.</strong></p><p>

Comment:<em>I'm actually a little bit conflicted here....obviously Rey has far more upside, but I don't see him winning the whole thing....I do see him winning here though.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Good first show....WCW had so much potential in 2000, they were just marred with the amount of great talent they lost.....keeping the radicals could really make a difference to the entire year</p>

First Round Tournament Match: Terry Funk vs Scott Steiner

Comment: Funker is broken down already, Steiner's got this. Can't wait for him to start raising hell backstage :D

You'd be surprised to hear that Scott actually has a decent personality in the mod i'm using. So don't expect him to be much of a malcontent in this universe.

First Round Tournament Match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs Rey Misterio Jr.

Comment: I would love to see Bam Bam win, but I wouldn't be shocked if some drugs found a way into him. It's really a reason he won't get a push sadly. Rey is going to be a top star so he gets the win.

Hope he rises to the occasion against the best wrestlers in the WCW.

Drugs didn't make it into Bam Bam's body thankfully, unfortunately, he is just starting time decline. Not serious yet, but it may harm him down the road.

I debated as to whether I should fire or keep Vince given what happened with him and WCW in '99, but in the end I decided to keep him because I felt he could fill an important role for me. A part of me blames Scott for Eddie and Scott not having the best match, but you have to remember: Scott was being hit hard with drugs at the time and Eddie wasn't the lying, cheating and stealing wrestler we'd come to know him as yet. As for Benoit and Chavo? I'd say it was more of two factors: Chavo not being quite as over as Benoit and them not having enough time to be any better.

Lex Luger and Shane Douglas vs Jim Duggan and Norman Smiley

Comment:An interesting choice of partners. I think Luger is certainly best utilised in the tag team division at this point in his career, little surprised to see Douglas as his partner, he would make a solid US Title contender....and is the type of wrestler that could really make the TV Title his own, good on the mic, decent in the ring....instantly dislikable enough that the fans would be desperate for someone to take the title off him after a long reign.....but enough of that, Totally Franchised win this one

The way I see Shane, I see him as either a midcard wrestler holding a title and running his mouth, an upper midcarder who can easily fill the main event slot if need be or as the backbone of a tag team. In the end, the latter won out among the other two options.

First Round Tournament Match: Diamond Dallas Page vs Dean Malenko

Comment:Page ain't booking himself out of the tournament this early, plus the losers here go for the TV Title right? Malenko would be a good choice for that

But that would mean DDP is like Eric Bischoff. And DDP is a much different person than Eric Bischoff...

No spoilers or anything, but it's just something to think about.

First Round Tournament Match: Terry Funk vs Scott Steiner

Comment:Surprised you didn't have Funk in that Hardcore Title match....but either way he's not winning here.....Scotty might not be World Champion material just yet, but he won't be far away

You'd be surprised with how good Terry is, he's fifty-five and he's still pushing 80-90 in two out of the three brawling stats. The guy's practically inhuman when you think about it.

Good first show....WCW had so much potential in 2000, they were just marred with the amount of great talent they lost.....keeping the radicals could really make a difference to the entire year

When you think about it, once WCW lost Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero and Saturn: The war was over. No way could WCW compete without four of their best rising stars and in Benoit's case? He was given the world title as a last hope that he would consider staying.

He didn't.

Thanks to everyone so far for predicting! I'm thinking the show should be up by midnight. Think of it as the new years eve ball that's about to drop. In any case, this is your last call to those who are looking to jump in on the action!

<p>In the days leading up to the Thunder, I decided to press on with the developmental territory and hope for the best. To help run things there I called and hired Jerry Jarrett and Dutch Mantel to run and book the new territory. Along the way, the following people got their WCW approved badges:</p><p> </p><p> AJ Styles</p><p> Charlie Haas</p><p> Fergal Devitt</p><p> Headhunter A</p><p> Headhunter B</p><p> James Mitchell</p><p> Low-Ki</p><p> Jazz</p><p> Rene Dupree</p><p> Rodney Mack</p><p> Ron Killings</p><p> Russ Haas</p><p> Samoa Joe</p><p> Shane Helms</p><p> Teddy Hart</p><p> TJ Wilson</p><p> Trish Stratus</p><p> Yoshihiro Tajiri</p><p> </p><p> Some of the guys weren't going to be official for a week so they could wrap up their last commitments. But a good chunk were available to be booked right now. I especially have a good feeling on the following stars.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Fergal Devitt:</strong> The kid looks like he could be the next Chris Benoit if booked correctly, he's got a good look, wrestles fine, if all goes well: He could be one of the greats.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Rene Dupree:</strong> Would you believe the kid is just sixteen? When you're sixteen and you look as good as you do, you have the chance to go far in this business. He's also got a good skill set already and only looks to improve as his career continues. I'm excited to see what this kid can do.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Ron Killings:</strong> I've already went through the kid, so there's no real need to get into much detail. But in a nutshell: He's the no. 1 hidden gem and not without reason. I expect him to do well in WCW.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Samoa Joe:</strong> This kid looks like a monster in the making, nice build, menacing look, the guy could easily be our next Goldberg if booked right. He may need a manager though until he can confidently cut a promo of his own. Luckily, it's why we hired James Mitchell to help us out.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Shane Helms:</strong> The kid looks like a scrub, but when he gets in the ring, watch out. The kid is a natural in there and he's got the potential to go places. I predict a long and fruitful career for him and maybe a few title runs before all is said and done.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Trish Stratus:</strong> Our newest Nitro Girl, she apparently has aspirations to be more than just a pretty face, she wants to be a wrestler. I may just give her the opportunity, helps she has a bit charisma on her side and men are going to think she's absolutely stunning. She's gonna be around for a good while and I'm glad.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="SrEA1VS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SrEA1VS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> "I could be a wrestler too!" Venus squeaked out, showcasing a few clumsy poses of her flexing her nonexistent muscles. I got a bit of a chuckle out of it. Venus is a good kid, a little skittish at times, but overall; I really like having her around. I elect Fergal, Teddy and TJ to be the first to head on down to NXT.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AzFrVCS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AzFrVCS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Also on the cards was to gave Scott a bonus, I had been pretty hard on him the last few days and felt he deserved a bit of acknowledgment that he was still a major part of WCW television and snuck a check for $15,000 in his mail box.</p><p> </p><p> In terms of where we'd be for tonight: We were at the Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum again. Fair enough. We did well for ourselves last time, why not come back and do it again?</p><p> </p><p> Nothing major happened backstage this time which left me free to book the show.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45104" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>During our pre-show, we had the Headhunters take on Shane Helms and Steve Armstrong which ended with the Headhunters picking up the W with a Powerbomb. The fans didn't take their psycho gimmicks well but they did show some great chemistry. Shane's show stealing gimmick got an above average rating though.<p> </p><p> Buzzkill also faced off against Perry Saturn in a decent contest which ended with Perry Saturn winning with Saturn hitting the Saturn Bomb on Buzzkill. Perry also debuted a new gimmick, that of a complete sociopath. It seems to have gone well with audiences with an above average rating.</p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45104" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>As the show began, we got a brief recap of our main storyline with Chris Benoit and Vince Russo. No explanation here.<p> </p><p> Rating: 49 (D+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="415twMv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/415twMv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Thunder then took us to Jacksonville where we saw Jeff Jarrett make his way to the ring, he told everyone that he was at the back when Chris Benoit gave his speech on Nitro. He saw how everyone came up to him, gave him high fives, gave him so many flourishing compliments, all that malarkey. And he just wanted to give his own two cents on the matter, he declared that he was absolutely disgusted with how Chris Benoit acted: Saying that Vince Russo was a great guy and a worthy commissioner. The fact Chris got all pissy over him was not because he wasn't getting opportunities, the truth of the matter was that Chris didn't deserve them. He didn't deserve them when he first got to WCW and he sure as hell doesn't deserve them now, especially not after Monday night. But unlike Chris, he's not going to pout and whine about it, he's going to sit back and watch as Chris proves him for himself while he goes on to win his first world heavyweight title.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FF8C00;">59 (C-)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: Jeff got under the crowd's skin during this entire promo, calling out Chris Benoit for his worked shoot. Helped make up for the fact that he was bad at improvising tonight, a shame since he's usually a much better promo than this. I guess the nerves got to him and I think he'll be back to his usual form next time we see him.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LtO3m5l.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LtO3m5l.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="ZhgUebb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZhgUebb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Kickstarting the second course of first round matches, DDP seemed like the favorite to move on over Dean Malenko; but Dean provided a good fight to the wily fan-favorite, having an answer to his wily brawling skill. The crucial moment of the match came when the Diamond Cutter was countered into a standing sitout shiranui and then into a Texas Cloverleaf. After fighting for a time, the People's Champ wound up being the next eliminee of the tournament at 12:04, a surprising win. But a big one nonetheless.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#2E8B57;">78 (B)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: Yep, I decided to put Dean over for the win. Figured it made the most sense, Dean's going to be having a big feud soon and he's gonna need all the help he can get. I did all I could to make sure Dean looked like a threat, whether it's enough, we'll just have to see. This was also the beginning of Dean going through a complete gimmick switch. That being he's too good of a wrestler to need a gimmick. Apparently, this came far too soon after the last one and hurt it's potential reception. It was still given the average rating. Kimberly's gimmick turned into the old school valet and also got the average rating.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="KDqc87Z.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KDqc87Z.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Watching from backstage, Bret Hart looks on as Dean Malenko's hand is raised. He asks if this is some sort of joke, but it soon becomes clear that it was anything but. He shrugs it off, stating that Dean didn't intimidate him. Even if he did, he'd still be able to beat him because in the end; he's the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#2E8B57;">78 (B)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: And here is Dean's sparring buddy for the next few months. I can already predict the smart fans salivating over the thought that this match is going to happen. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited for the match to happen myself. Bret also got a tweak in his gimmick, playing on his catchphrase. Once again, it was rated above average.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="kJ71UwF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kJ71UwF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NFEfsBF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NFEfsBF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> When commercial time was over, Gene Okerlund was seen with Lex Luger and Shane Douglas; he questioned both men on their actions against Harlem Heat during Monday Night Nitro. Shane explained that the answer was simple, they were sick and tired of being treated with disrespect from all the 'younger folks' out there who thought they knew their stuff. Lex said they were former world heavyweight champions, legends in the business even. And yet people think they they're all washed up and can't pull it together any longer. Well they've had enough and as of tonight, they're going to take matters into their own hands. Starting with Harlem Heat. Why? Because they're Grizzled and Chiseled.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">50 (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: Lex and Shane had some problems with their promo because they were off script. Though Lex seemed to fare a little better than Shane, a little surprising given Shane's reputation as a promo cutter. But even so, this and the next segment were designed to get Lex and Shane over as the newest tag team in WCW and next big threat to Harlem Heat. And overall, I'd say it did it's job.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="kJ71UwF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kJ71UwF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> and <img alt="NFEfsBF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NFEfsBF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="NKG3mHF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NKG3mHF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> and <img alt="p7NnBCb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p7NnBCb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> What was there to say about this match? Lex and Shane dominated the majority of this with Jim and Norman getting very little offense in at all. 2:51 in, Lex put Jim out of his misery with a Torture Rack Slam and gave the new team their first win.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">47 (D)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: In news that may hurt our plans going forward, Lex and Shane found that they did not have much chemistry as a tag team with them throwing each other off. Hopefully they can work out the kinks soon as this was a dominating first impression. The funny thing about this was that even though Lex was wasted during the entire match, he was also the one who performed the best. Imagine that.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="fQFaT9K.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fQFaT9K.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Backstage again with Gene Okerlund, this time with Eddie Guerrero. Gene asked Eddie about Scott Hall's vicious assault on him after their match at Nitro, Eddie isn't too surprised. Scott's always been paranoid about his spot, when he sees someone threatening his position, he goes on the defensive saying he wasn't ready for them. But he warns Scott that he can't get away with it forever, because when the time comes: They will fight again and Eddie will prove that his win was no fluke, because he's got Latino Heat.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">51 (D+)</span></p><p><span style="color:#A0522D;"> </span></p><p> DDP's Notes: Eddie cut an overall good promo and was one of the better improvisers tonight. I see Eddie as the second coming of Scott Hall, maybe even better than him at his peak. He's definitely a future world champion that's for sure. And I believe that Scott is the perfect veteran to help reach him to that next level. Whether Scott will take the bait, we'll just have to see.</p><p> </p><p> We cut to the night-time scenes of a hood, somewhere around Florida. There, you can see graffiti on the walls, cracked windows and a few flipped over cars. A few screams are police-sirens are heard. A menacing voice explains that when you cross around the streets, you tend to learn a few things. Look both ways, be nice to other people and never talk to strangers. Another voice threatens that when you come to their street however, there are some other things they need to learn. The first being, if you respect your life; don't mess with the wrong people. The identity of the two men are then revealed, walking down the roads. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="WZZNlqe.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/WZZNlqe.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="ZL6QVlK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZL6QVlK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> On one side, we have the ripped Big T, seemingly going under a change in image; and on the other side, we have a thuggish, rather fierce looking wrestler. The guy on the left introduces himself as Tony Truths, and says that the guy on his right is Ron Killings. And that they come from the streets. Truth Streetz. The vignette ends with both men glaring at the camera as the scene fades to black.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">39 (D-)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: It's always good to introduce some new blood to the ranks, and I've got a feeling that Tony and Ron are going to be a good addition to the tag division. Tony did fine with the new gimmick and got the above average rating, Ron's rapper gimmick has not been fully defined yet: But for now receives the average rating.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="415twMv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/415twMv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="bTeB5So.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bTeB5So.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Back from his angry tirade against Chris Benoit, he decided to take his frustrations out on Meng. Not the best of choices as the two ended up engaging in a slug fest that showed no end in sight. Both men showed flashes of brilliance during this time period, Meng especially got a good one in with a nice Samoan Drop that almost got Jeff going. But in the end, having weakened Meng with a brutal figure four, Jeff sealed in his ticket at 12:05 with The Stroke.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FFFF00;">68 (C+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: The fans hate Jeff's guts and it's easy to see why, but Jeff did well for himself tonight and I'm looking to have him be a major factor in our battle against WWF. You know, unless he decides to go back to the WWF for the seventieth time a row. It should be noted that Meng was looking a bit gassed neared the end and was not in his usual form. Disappointing, but understandable.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="6keMFde.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6keMFde.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Mike Tenay then conducted a titantron interview with Scott Steiner asking him about his match against Terry Funk. Scott said he was looking forward to teaching the old man a thing or two, the first being that you should never deny a man his due. The second? Knowing when to retire. And Big Poppa Pump, he was looking for both his due and some men needed to be retired. And he knew exactly who it was that needed it. Terry Funk, prepare the eulogy: Tonight may well be his swan song.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#006400;">72 (B-)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: A vicious promo from Scott and it's clear he's going to be one of our top heels going forward. He had a tough go at it unscripted (noticing something here?) and had a few flub-ups. But it could have been worse and it's likely not going to do much harm to him going forward.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="6iXG7fT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6iXG7fT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cUAKwqX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cUAKwqX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Rey Misterio Jr. is seen backstage, walking when he comes across Berlyn who congratulates him (in his Broken English) on being in the tournament. Rey is confused at first but he thanks him, Berlyn then goes on about how he felt that the tournament could have used someone foreign enough, and that while Rey may not have been his first choice- Rey stops him right there and demands to know what Berlyn means. Berlyn says in a rather fake sincere voice that he just felt that there were other people that deserved to be in the tournament, but that Rey was a good alternative. Rey doesn't buy it and claims that Berlyn is jealous, at first Berlyn tries to defend himself...</p><p> </p><p> And then he socks him with a right to the face, unleashing on a brutal assault that ends with him ramming Rey onto the wall twice. With the damage done, he looks at Rey with a psychotic look in his eyes and screams to the high heavens that it should've been him. He kicks him one more time for good measure and leaves Rey in a sorry state.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">49 (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: I feel like Berlyn hasn't gotten a fair opportunity to succeed in WCW yet, he's not a bad wrestler by any means and he's still very young. But he does tend to be lackluster on the mic and that has hurt his chances to succeed. Still, a new era is a new era and the way I see it: Berlyn has a good chance to make a name for himself.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="yAypFui.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yAypFui.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Terry Funk was then seen being interviewed by Gene Okerlund as he asked for his thoughts on his match against Scott Steiner. What follows is a heart-felt promo where he talks about his career up to this point from WWF, to Japan, then NWA, ECW and now here in WCW. He admits he hasn't been up to the mountain top in quite some time and that his bones aren't what they used to be. Hell, he's not even sure if he'll get another opportunity at the world title after this. But even if it wasn't for the big gold belt, he's still gonna go out there and whoop someone's ass, because that's what he was born to do. He warns Scott to watch his back and heads for the ring.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FFFF00;">67 (C+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: Terry isn't just known for his ability in the ring, he's also got some underrated promo chops. He wasn't unscripted in this promo, but he cut a reasonable well put together highlight of his entire career and expressed his doubts on getting another shot if he was to fall tonight. A good outing here as Terry comes off as the likable veteran compared to Scott Steiner's bitter rookie.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="6keMFde.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6keMFde.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="yAypFui.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yAypFui.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Both men were looking to prove themselves tonight, and it showed as they went all out in their match; showcasing the best of their abilities and engaging in a variety of fights. For Terry, he looked to wear Scott down with some good old fashioned brawling and used experience to his advantage. Scott relied plenty on his more well-rounded attributes and a few amount of suplexes to wear the veteran down. The big moment for Terry was when he hit a vicious DDT and got a near fall on Scott. In the end though, youth and strength won the day as Scott got the win in 16:15 with a Steiner Screwdriver.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#006400;">75 (B-)</span></p><p><span style="color:#006400;"> </span></p><p> DDP's Notes: Good match from the two, maybe could've been a classic if Terry was still in his physical prime. But overall, I'm very pleased with how the match went. Scott was the highlight of the entire match, he suffered a broken nose as a result of that DDT and finished the match anyway. Now that's some tenacity there and it shows why Scott is going to be a big player in the coming months.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="yAypFui.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yAypFui.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="6keMFde.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6keMFde.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Scott's hand is raised, but it's clear that Scott is far from happy with how things went. He looks at a beaten down Terry and decides to add insult into injury with another Steiner Screwdriver. He exchanges a few unsavory words at him and walks away from the ring with an assault of boos pouring down on him.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FFFF00;">66 (C+)</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFF00;"> </span></p><p> DDP's Notes: While watching this beatdown, I got the idea for what Scott and Terry's feud should be about. Should be interesting to see.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="ZhgUebb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZhgUebb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Dean Malenko is then seen from the backstage arena, he knows what Bret is thinking. Dean doesn't deserve to be anywhere near a legend like him. And he's right, when it comes to accomplishments in the ring, there are few better than the Hitman. However, when we go by technical wrestling prowess, we find that both Dean and Bret are a lot closer than they think. He respects Bret for everything he's accomplished in the business, but he warns Bret to not underestimate him.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#A0522D;">50 (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: Dean's never been known to be a good promo, but tonight he seemed a little more amped up than usual. Most likely because he's on the verge of perhaps the biggest match of his career. I wouldn't blame him. It also seemed that he was aiming for more of a 'never-say die' attitude, different from the usual anti-american rhetoric he had been spewing out as of late. Perhaps this is the beginning of a face turn for Dean?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Al9D2SW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Al9D2SW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="6iXG7fT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6iXG7fT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> At last, it was time for the final first round matchup. Still reeling from his backstage assault from Berlyn, there was an underlying question from the audience. Could Rey defeat the monstrous Bam Bam? It didn't seem like that at first as Bam Bam dominated a good portion of the matchup, but something happened late in the going. Rey started to fight back, it wasn't easy; but Rey fought like it was his last night on Earth. And it paid off in dividends when Bam Bam attempted a powerslam, Rey managed to wiggle out and roll up the big guy for the pin and a very impressive win.</p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FFFF00;">67 (C+)</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Notes: This match was designed to tell a tried and true story and it worked. David beat Goliath and it sent the fans home happy. Now we have our quarterfinal round up and ready to go.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="6iXG7fT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6iXG7fT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Having picked up a well-deserved victory, Rey Misterio Jr. celebrates in the ring. As he does, Tony, Mike and Bobby sign off by revealing the quarterfinal matches for Nitro.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Bret Hart vs Dean Malenko</strong></p><p><strong> Ric Flair vs Jeff Jarrett</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Chris Benoit vs Rey Misterio Jr.</strong></p><p><strong> Scott Steiner vs Eddie Guerrero</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Rating: <span style="color:#FF8C00;">55 (C-)</span></p><p><span style="color:#FF8C00;"> </span></p><p> Final Rating: <span style="color:#F4A460;">62 ©</span></p><p> </p><p> DDP's Thoughts: We got docked tonight for having an insufficient amount of Nitro Girls. From the bottom of our hearts, we here at WCW apologize and promise to step up our game next time around. We were also again egged on for lackluster storylines. Let me just say this: The preliminaries are over with now. It's time for the fun to really begin. And this show is going to be what gets us to this fun.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Highlights:</strong> All Four Tournament Matches, Truth Streetz Viginette, Terry, Jeff, Bret, Eddie and Scott's Promos</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Lowlights:</strong> Lack of Nitro Girls, Dean's better than usual but still average promo...and that's about it. </p></div></blockquote>

I'm just not feeling him." Bret Hart told me after he saw the Truth Streetz vignette. Overall, the consensus was that the team had potential; but not everyone felt that way. Bret was one of those people. "I mean, give him credit: He looks the part and all, but the guy's not a good seller. I'm not gonna say you should scrap the idea, but I would suggest holding off on the tag titles until he improves that part of his game." It was fair criticism on Bret's behalf. Tony was not known for his selling ability.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="NFEfsBF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NFEfsBF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Shane on the other hand was still feeling quite bitter over how his match went and took the opportunity to rant about Ron Killings. "You think that's bad Bret? You should see Ron Killings. I saw him down at the Power Plant training, good god; the guy couldn't sell for shit!" I tried to calm him down some, "Now Shane. He's new to us here, and it's going to take a while before he becomes a really good wrestler. Give the kid a break and wait and see what he can do before making rash judgements."</p><p> </p><p> "Says you, you're the guy that booked me with a drugged up Luger. I tell you, if I was the booker: I would've never hired him in the first place." I couldn't lie to him. He was absolutely drugged on his ass last night and it showed. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="6keMFde.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6keMFde.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> As I headed to the office, I saw Scott tending to his nose and decided to check him out. "You gonna be alright man?" I asked, "Eh, don't worry 'bout me boss!" He replied. "Just a little crooked is all!" No time necessary for Big Poppa Pump. That was some more good news. But now it was time to focus on the seriousness of Lex's antics. I called Lex to the office so we could talk about what was going on with him during his match.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="kJ71UwF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kJ71UwF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> "Nice to see you back here." I smirked, Lex was not amused at my attempt to poke fun at the situation. "Just get it over with." Lex grumbled. "Alright then. I'm gonna be blunt with you. You're lucky you were the best performer in that match tonight. If you weren't, you'd be in hot water by now." Lex rolled his eyes, he knew what was coming. "As a result, i'm fining you half of your pay." And with that, the hammer was laid down. "Ah (bleep) off." He said nonchalantly, and headed for the door. "STING CAN'T SAVE YOU FOREVER YOU KNOW!" I hollered back. But it was a nil attempt, Lex was out of the office and once again proving to be a pain in my ass. I knew Sting was going to be pissed at me for docking his pay. But it was a small price to pay for his buddy's doings.</p><p> </p><p> I took a long look at my desk and sighed, it had been a frustrating two days. Thunder did not live up to our expectations and our 3.78 rating did not brighten up my mood. I asked myself silently why it was I took the job again and wallowed in my own misery until...</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="SrEA1VS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SrEA1VS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> "Mr. Dallas?" My head rose up to see Venus's shy, caring face. "Yes Venus?" I asked, hoping that we hadn't been litigated. "Ms. Sytch is here and she's ready to finalize the contract you sent out to her. D-do you mind if I bring her in?" Finally, some actually good news. My expression instantly lightened up when I heard she was ready to make it official. "Absolutely! Please, bring her in." Venus smiled back and she skipped over backstage to get Tammy Sytch. For some reason, whenever she smiled; my heart skipped a little and my breath stopped ever so slightly. Didn't know why it was. Maybe it was the way she looked when she smiled or how she smiled at me.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="2AxZJCK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2AxZJCK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> But I couldn't dwell on that, it was time to make one of my bigger moves as booker of WCW. Tammy Sytch (or Sunny as she was known as back in the day) was hailed in WWF as the very first 'diva' in the company's history. She was hot, and i'm not just talking hot. I'm talking white hot. Men wanted to be with her and girls wanted to BE her. You couldn't get enough of her there, dare I say it: Sunnymania was running wild! So when Tammy entered the office, I knew what had to be done.</p><p> </p><p> "Well, look what we have here." I smiled as Venus brought in the promiscuous manager in. "Nice to see you again Mr. Dallas" Tammy smirked, "The same to you." I said back. After she sat down, we got straight to the heart of the matter. "I think we know why we're here." I started off. "I think we do." Tammy agreed. "You ready for you and your man to become official members of the WCW roster?" Tammy gave me her usual sultry smile, "Dallas, you know i'm ready." All she had to do now was sign the papers and it was done. "Alright. We'll be seeing you in a week when you wrap up with Paul. We look forward to seeing you dominate WCW the way you did WWF."</p><p> </p><p> "Oh believe me, I will!" She said confidentially, "I will!" And all was right with the world. There was a brief pause as I basked in the glory of signing a high-profile manager onto WCW, then; Venus broke the silence with an uncomfortable whisper. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="SrEA1VS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SrEA1VS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LtO3m5l.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LtO3m5l.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> "Um...M-Mr. Dallas?"</p><p> </p><p> "Yes Venus?"</p><p> </p><p> "Do you think I could be like Sunny?" She asked, adding in a bashful "If it's alright with you..."</p><p> </p><p> "What do you mean?" I pondered. And the next thing I knew, she started to take off the buttons of her blouse and moved her hips left and right, trying her best to seem seductive, but coming off more awkward than anything. "Ok, I think I see where you're getting at dear!" I backpedaled, getting a little sweaty just thinking about it. "Oh. I-i'm sorry Mr. Dallas." Venus apologized as she hastily put the buttons on her blouse back on and straightened out her tie, a blush burning red on her face. "No, no. It's alright. Now go check on the other stars for me. Okay?" She nodded and head</p><p> </p><p> As the days towards our next Nitro moved forward, we managed to sign Brian Lee, Chris Candido and Dave Finlay (former WCW veteran). We also heard that Jazz was fired from ECW along with a couple of choice wrestlers. Even so, her contract would not be made official for five more days.</p><p> </p><p> I decided to give <span style="color:#FFFFFF;">Trish Stratus</span> to Buff Bagwell to help bolster up his Buff N' Stuff gimmick. Probably Flair/Jarrett. Jarrett uses the guitar to get the pinfall, but the ref finds the broken remnants of the guitar, thinks it over and reverses the decision.</p>

When Malenko went for a standing suplex on me, I went up for him effortlessly in the air, straight as two dinner forks stuck together. Instead of taking me back for a simple back bump, Malenko decided to walk me the short distance to the corner, but he didn't have the size or strength and dropped me full-weight, crouching me and tearing my groin. I don't even know how I was able to bring myself to finish the match. I was in too much pain even to tell Dean how pissed off I was at him. Even worse, he dressed fast and left without acknowledging that he hurt me, or that has sorry. Like how you are telling stories behind the scenes/backstage. Like how you are playing DDP's character and not putting the worlds title on him,at least not right away as some of the past bookers(Hogan,Nash ) keep up the good work</p>

Vampiro vs Disco Inferno

Comments: I think Vampiro should be pushed and Disco Inferno is a good character that I liked, but got tired of quickly.

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Bret Hart vs Dean Malenko

Comments: Bret Hart wins the match. Something tells me they will have poor chemistry and if he loses Bret will be upset. Could be a double switch with them.

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Ric Flair vs Jeff Jarrett

Comments: This match will disappoint sadly. Jeff just isn't on Flair's level. Flair should win setting up Hart vs. Flair.

Crowbar vs Billy Kidman

Comments: Crowbar goes over to get heat on him and lead to Kidman getting the big win down the road.

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Chris Benoit vs Rey Misterio Jr.

Comments: Benoit wins due to some outside interference. This is the one I could see getting overturned and then changed to Rey after Russo flips the decision due to Berlyn cheating Rey.

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Scott Steiner vs Eddie Guerrero

Comments: Steiner wins easily. Eddie could also get cheated by Hall.

BONUS: One of the tournament matches is going to get overturned, which one is it?: Benoit vs. Rey because of Russo.

Comments On Last Show/Diary: Looking forward to the new tag team of Big T and Truth. I feel the wheels falling off for Douglas and Luger. Bret Hart's bad attitude is a problem. Hoping your young core of guys will start paying off for you with great matches and promos rating wise. It's going to be difficult, because your veterans don't want to put any of them over.

Vampiro vs Disco Inferno

I like Vampiro....far more than I like Disco anyway....it's a shame that his feud with Sting was so ridiculously booked because he was well on his way to getting pretty over before they p!ssed it all up the wall

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Bret Hart vs Dean Malenko

Ok, I may have been wrong about Page putting Malenko over, but no way is Bret putting him over....right? Should be a great match either way

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Ric Flair vs Jeff Jarrett

Tough pick, can't see you putting the belt on Flair, but at the same time I can't see him being happy to put Jarrett over

Crowbar vs Billy Kidman

Yeah.....I never liked Crowbar

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Chris Benoit vs Rey Misterio Jr.

I see Benoit going all the way to the finals

Quarterfinal Tournament Matchup: Scott Steiner vs Eddie Guerrero

Another tough pick.....although I'm thinking this may be the match to get overturned because of Mr Guerrero's lying, cheating and/or stealing

BONUS: One of the tournament matches is going to get overturned, which one is it?: Steiner/Guerrero

I remember Vampiro competed in a torch match against Sting, which sounds like a bad version of an inferno match. Trust me when I say we won't be seeing any torches with Vampiro in this diary.</p><p> </p><p> As for Disco? He's definitely not getting a push that's for sure. Who knows? He might end up going to NXT to do his shtick. Or maybe, just maybe, he needs to a make a change.</p><p> </p><p> Tony Truths and Ron Killings seemed like a perfect fit when you think about it.
