The Cornellverse 1986 Thread

Recommended Posts

My one criticism of GCG77 was that the Openweight division wasn't set up and that the company was clearly using "Junior" identification.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll likely have a floating Openweight belt, a Lightweight belt ("Junior" conveys Elemental flippy stuff) and an Openweight tag belt.

<strong>Very</strong> early rosters for Canada. CWF also have Whipper Marks, T-Bone Thompson and Woolly Steppe II, the latter two CV77 guys.<p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2018_06/CANADA1.jpg.54ed66da5064d3a6d0f3963a945f2172.jpg" data-fileid="3428" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="3428" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="CANADA1.jpg.54ed66da5064d3a6d0f3963a945f2172.jpg" data-src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2018_06/CANADA1.jpg.54ed66da5064d3a6d0f3963a945f2172.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a></p>

Also, the MPWF roster:<p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2018_06/MPWF1.jpg.7801b1fd0029a7df78fdf0e748bdc526.jpg" data-fileid="3429" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="3429" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="MPWF1.jpg.7801b1fd0029a7df78fdf0e748bdc526.jpg" data-src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2018_06/MPWF1.jpg.7801b1fd0029a7df78fdf0e748bdc526.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a></p>

<p>Both Mexican companies have some amazingly talented legends on the roster.... Patron is the Champagne Lover of his day and any company with him involved has no choice but to grow to epic proportions. And MPWF having some legends including young Sam Keith starring in some of his legendary matches can only have had huge success too. I would assume both companies were at least cult, with OLLIE probably being the larger of the two. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I had also forgotten about CWF... their roster could be pretty amazing, but they would have to have their TV deals limited to Canada. Basically the NOTBPW of their time, with some of the most legendary tag teams ever all being part of their roster. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

But for naming purposes it worked well enough. I usually just had JWW start up as JWW in 77, move the GCG esque titles to GCG and keep with no title history and retired. My idea was that GCG dipped into promoting women's wrestling in the 1980s to combat the variety BHOTWG had only to run afoul of JWW and have their own traditional audiences rebel. Akira Hokuto in Keiji Mutoh's AJPW is the visual I had in mind.<p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="LlamaSquad" data-cite="LlamaSquad" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45482" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Thanks for the feedback. I usually do an Openweight Singles and Openweight Tag Team titles during a game in 1977, no Lightweight belt whatsoever. GCG to me feels like the smaller wrestlers usually only got their shine in tag team matches more so than anything else, with the openweight title as a sop to the likes of the Golden Boy and others.

And the heavyweight titles become main event titles. So it balances it out a bit.

This is the Excel spreadsheet I'm using to track the data in the mod. It gives a preview of certain rosters for those who want them (all subject to change), but is mainly for the attention of Midnightnick, who is providing invaluable help with roster creation and potential testing.

Do with this what you will. Thanks.

EDIT: It claims the file's 'invalid', does anyone know why?

EDIT 2: Turns out you can't post .xlsx files, here it is.

<p>This may be a bit of a bump, but <strong>THIS MOD IS NOT DEAD.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I got rather disheartened a couple of months ago, but I have now done all but one of the company rosters that were canon active in '86. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm not really sure which workers to put in the rest of the rosters.</p><p> </p><p>

(Of course, this is all pending permission from the CV77 team and contributing artists.)</p>
