WWE Prelude – Royal Rumble 2009

What’s happening

WWE Network – The WWE Network was launched after Vince McMahon stepped down as the Chairman and his son Shane McMahon was selected as the new chairman of the company – Shane announced a lot of changes for the WWE Programming alongside with his sister Stephanie that the WWE will change once again going from the “Ruthless Aggression” era to a new “Revolution” Era; but what more changes does Shane and Stephanie have in mind?

RAW – Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels – Still going on feud between Jericho vs. Michaels as HBK returned at Survivor Series 2008 and helped John Cena win the World Heavyweight Championship; now both Jericho and Michaels wants one thing – Main Event Wrestlemania and in the Royal Rumble Jericho has a chance of becoming once again the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship – in a one on one against The Undertaker on a match that whoever wins gets a title shot for their main title in their brand.

RAW – Randy Orton vs. Sheamus – Upcoming star Sheamus debuted on RAW the night after Armageddon and attacked Orton now both man are in an eye for an eye feud.

SmackDown – Jeff Hardy vs. Top Contenders of Smackdown – After Jeff Hardy won the WWE Championship for the first time he got to know how hard is to keep the championship but after surviving five titles matches against some of the top contenders of SmackDown like: CM Punk in a ladder match – Undertaker two times on SmackDown – and Edge two times on the last two weeks on SmackDown! And his sixth defense is going to be against Batista at the Royal Rumble.

SmackDown – Tommy Dreamer has been named the GM of SmackDown after ECW going under and becoming history Dreamer is trying to prove he can make a Brand successful by being the best GM he can be but Shane McMahon has challenged Tommy Dreamer of making the best of SmackDown for one year and next year January 2010 – Shane will come back and decide if Tommy Dreamer gets another contract or he is fired.

NXT – After FCW was renamed as NXT – Shane McMahon had an amazing idea of bringing these future stars to the main company as now NXT is its own brand and will have future big names coming from FCW as: Daniel Bryan, Tyler Black, Wade Barrett, Yoshi Tatsu, Curt Hawkins, Michael McGillicutty, Mike Knox, Kaval, AJ Lee, Alicia Fox, Ashley Lane, Jay Lethal, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and MORE! – but they will also have good tag teams coming from the Independent Circuit like – Motor City Machine Guns and The American Wolves. So what can we wait for the first episode of NXT on the WWE Network? We have to wait and see.

Royal Rumble 2009 – Results
William Regal defeated Jack Swagger in the opener to retain his Intercontinental Championship.

Cryme Tyme defeated Carlito and Primo to win the WWE Tag Team title (After the match Primo and Carlito got into a fight blaming each other for the loss).
Beth Phoenix defeated Victoria to retain the WWE Women’s title after the match Beth Phoenix announced that she will not defend the WWE Women’s title until there’s someone capable of defeating her.

The Undertaker defeated Chris Jericho and gained a title shot against Jeff Hardy at No Way Out in the middle of the match we had Shawn Michaels interfere and hit a Sweet Chin Music on Jericho helping Undertaker win the match.

Miz and Morrison defeated The World’s Strongest Tag Team (MVP and Mark Henry) to retain The World Tag Team Championship

Maryse defeated Melina to win the WWE Divas Championship – after the match we had Melina attacking Maryse and she announced it that the rematch will be taking place tomorrow night at Monday Night Raw

Jeff Hardy with the help of Edge hitting a Spear on Batista won and retained his WWE Championship and now he has to prepare to confront The Undertaker at No Way Out will Jeff Hardy still have his championship at the first Tuesday on march when the Royal Rumble winner announces who he will confront at Wrestlemania?

John Cena defeated Triple H and Randy Orton to retain the World Heavyweight Championship after Sheamus interfered and attacked both Orton and Triple H hitting both with a Brogue Kick and after that Cena just pinned Orton to retain his belt – after the match Sheamus attacked John Cena… Sheamus grabs the title and shows it off maybe the future of Raw Sheamus the World Heavyweight Champion?

Royal Rumble started with Edge and Chris Jericho at number one and two and both went to the end when Number 30… Shawn Michaels made his entrance; He eliminated the last 6 wrestlers in the ring to win the Royal Rumble – Shawn Michaels once again is going to Main Event Wrestlemania.

Sheamus leaves to prepare for his match and Orton seems to have an idea of what to do next. Rating – 80(B) John Morrison and The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, John Morrison and The Miz drew with Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston in 12:34 when the match descended into chaos after Miz got in the ring with a chair and tried to cheat but Evan Bourne got himself a chair and both teams got DQ by the ref who was originally knocked out when he got caught with a Trouble in Paradise. Rating – 59 (C-) Maryse is backstage walking back to her locker room when she is stopped by Gail Kim who says that Maryse time with the belt is going to be short when Gail Kim becomes the number one contender next week, Maryse responds saying that Gail Kim could never beat her in a million years but she will be waiting for any opponent because she is trying to become the best divas champion ever. Gail Kim ends by saying that she will rebuild this Women’s division by herself. Rating – 68(C+) William Regal vs. JBL In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, William Regal defeated John Layfield in 7:33 by pinfall with a Running Knee. During the match we also had Ezekiel Jackson distract Layfield. – Ezekiel Jackson helps William Regal beat JBL and keeps his streak while holding the Intercontinental Championship by 7-0 and after the match Regal bragged about how he is undefeated as the Champion and that’s going to stay like that for months and months and maybe years… Regal and Jackson leave the ring as they are getting booed. After the match Jericho celebrates and he taunts Michaels with his own taunt and he ends the segment by grabbing a Shawn Michaels sign in the crowd and breaks it Jericho laughs at the fans as he goes backstage. – Rating – 80 (B) John Cena theme song hits and with a big cheer he makes his entrance… Cena gives his hat to a kid standing in the crowd… Cena goes around the ring touching the hands of the fans after that he grabs the microphone and stands in the ring. John Cena says that he just found out that he will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship at No Way Out… in an Elimination Chamber match, Cena says that he should’ve know that his path to Wrestlemania was going to be hard but he says that he has been in the same position before having to defend his title in an Elimination Chamber match where he could lose anytime and or be attacked by everyone and be the first one out. But John doesn’t really care who he confronts or if he is the first entrant in the Chamber or the last to leave the Chamber and have to eliminate all five people… Cena says that he is the CHAMPION and he will not back down from any challenge and when Shane announced that Sheamus opponent tonight was Cena himself he got extra happy because he can show Sheamus how to respect the veterans and he can end Sheamus Road to Wrestlemania earlier and send him home to Ireland. Cena starts to get ready for his match as Sheamus theme song starts and he makes his entrance… - Rating – 86(B+) John Cena vs. Sheamus – If Sheamus Wins he enters the Elimination Chamber match. In an exceptional match, Sheamus defeated John Cena in 12:39 by pinfall with a Brogue Kick after Randy Orton interfered and attacked John Cena outside the ring hitting him with a RKO and sending him back to the ring so Sheamus only Brogue Kicked and pinned him to win. – after the match Orton is walking back up the ramp looking at Sheamus who is confused on why Orton helped him. – Rating – 78(B-) Shawn Michaels vs. Umaga In an exceptional match, Shawn Michaels defeated Umaga in 12:52 by pinfall with a Sweet Chin Music. – Shawn Michaels starts his Road to Wrestlemania with a win against a tough opponent in Umaga. In No Way Out SmackDown will have an Elimination Chamber match, but not for the WWE Championship… but a chance of going one on one against the Champion at WRESTLEMANIA! And the participants are… CM Punk (Who smiles at the announcement), Edge, Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Big Red Machine… Kane and Christian. Punk thanks Dreamer but he wants to be in the WWE Championship match and not in a high-risk Elimination Chamber that he has almost no chance in. Looks like Shelton has a new opponent tonight. – Rating – 77(B) Drew McIntyre vs. Shelton Benjamin – Non Title Match In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Drew McIntyre defeated Shelton Benjamin in 8:29 by pinfall with a Snap Double Underhook DDT. – Drew McIntyre with a cheap shot when the referee was not looking beats the United States Championship and may get a title shot in the future. After the match Drew McIntyre tries to injury again the arm of Shelton Benjamin with a bunch of stomps before he got hold back by the referees. – Rating- 70(C+) Mickie James is preparing for her match which is next but she is stopped by Beth Phoenix who gives Mickie good luck for her match tonight, but Beth Phoenix warns Mickie to watch her back in the ring because she never knows when a Phoenix might strike. – Rating – 66(C+) Mickie James vs. Natalya In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Natalya Neidhart defeated Mickie James in 8:16 by pinfall with a German Suplex following interference from Beth Phoenix. – Beth Phoenix warned Mickie James and she did appear by the end of the match to help her friend Natalya beat Mickie James. Shane McMahon makes his way to the ring greeting everybody that is here tonight… Shane enters the ring and starts talking about how things change because three months ago when he became the chairman of the company nobody thought he was going to last even a month. But Shane showed them that he has a future for this company and the future not only starts by making a brand where new blood can be developed in front of the fans eyes so Shane asks for the whole NXT roster to surround the ring. The NXT roster surrounds the ring and we can see every talent from across the state and overseas… Shane continues by saying that every wrestler man or woman here can be future WWE Main Superstars, future Champions, even future Hall of Famers. But their journey starts here tonight. To end it Shane says he needs someone who can keep this whole thing together and the Wrestlers in their places so he welcomes the GM of NXT someone who knows how to be a successful General Manager… Paul Heyman appears and the crowd gets on their feet for Heyman who walks to the ring with a big pop… Paul Heyman grabs the microphone… he thanks Shane for making the right choice of General Manager to manage these rookies, Heyman continues by saying that if anybody of these Wrestlers here tonight want to be a future star…future hall of famer or just a future champion then they are in the right place. Heyman continues to say that he is going to be what these Superstars need a power hand that will make the right decisions every time, Heyman finalizes by saying that he is tired of talking and wants to see some Wrestling so he is here to announce that the NXT Tag Team Tournament for the NXT Tag Team Championship is going to be tonight. While also having two matches for Round 1 of the NXT Championship Tournament and one match for Round 1 of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament! Ryder and Hawkins win the NXT Tag Team titles. – Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins got out-wrestled in this match but still managed to win the NXT Tag Titles in a comeback fashion when Curt Hawkins made a hot tag and Zack Ryder made the comeback of the night to win this match.
