"A couple of months ago, El Mitico Jr got the luckiest win of his career when he beat me for the Can-Am Championship. I happened to be battling a severe migraine on that night and was no where near one hundred percent. I shouldn't have even been wrestling, but I was, because I believe in being a fighting champion. Next month, I get another shot at the Can-Am Championship. Next month, at RMW Live #21, I'm going to show the world that El Mitico Jr's win over me was a fluke when I regain my Can-Am Championship!" <strong>C.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Caught up on this over the past few days and boy oh boy is this a nice read. I always love the little unexpected success stories, so Riley and the graduates getting featured so heavily and performing so well is a nice touch. I was way too excited for Riley's turn and I'm excited to see where it leads. I would've liked to see if you could have gotten him a bigger, better deal somewhere, but also, not knowing is probably better than the potential disappointment.</p><p> </p><p>

I really dig the writing style as well. I've tossed up doing my own diary and it's very similar to how I'd write things, more narrative/behind the scenes stuff and abridged results. I'd always rather that over long match write ups and word for word promos tbh. Keen to keep following.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The doors had just opened. The popcorn was fresh, the pizza was cooking. Riley was away from it all -- in a corner of the Oxford Arena that was away from fans and from the locker room. It was technically an equipment storage area. Marjorie and her crew used it to store extra lights in case something broke. He used it for his pre-show ritual.</p><p> </p><p> Riley sat on the floor in track pants and a sleeveless RMW shirt. His trunks were on underneath his pants. He had his boots on already, but not his knee pads. His legs were splayed open and he was stretching. He was trying to prepare his body. There would be a war tonight. A war with Jimmy P. </p><p> </p><p> Riley didn’t know Jimmy P well. They had talked briefly before the tag match in August and would talk more in a little bit about their main event match up. Jimmy P was one of the few guys who had been to both TCW and SWF. He and Donnie J had been stars in the cruiserweight division back when TCW featured a cruiserweight division. He and Donnie had been Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions. CZCW Tag Team Champions. He had been a multiple time CZCW Champion. He had teamed with Garcia to win the SWF World Tag Team Titles. Jimmy was accomplished. He had name value. He was still in the prime of his career and could still wrestle. He had been a casualty of SWF’s swelling roster and SWF’s attempt to keep up in the arms race. They had deemed him an unnecessary asset. Riley had once been unnecessary. He understood.</p><p> </p><p> Riley stretched his torso towards his left leg. He let the muscles in his bodies pull and relax. Loosening them. Riley inhaled and exhaled. Jimmy was good for the company. Good for the locker room. He was probably Riley’s top opponent. Name value. Still in his prime. Not old and clinging on for life. Not young and still building a name. He was the whole package. Riley was looking forward to the opportunity. To the chance.</p><p> </p><p> He could hear the chatter of the fans as they came into the building and took their seats. He inhaled and exhaled again. He closed his eyes.</p><p> </p><p> “Hey babe.” Her voice called to him. He opened his eyes. She was already dressed for tonight. Makeup done. Hair done. Dressed as the seductress she portrayed in front of the crowd.</p><p> </p><p> “Hey.” He replied. He was calm. Relaxed now.</p><p> </p><p> “You ready for tonight?”</p><p> </p><p> “Yeah.”</p><p> </p><p> “Good. You’re going to kill it.”</p><p> </p><p> “I hope so.”</p><p> </p><p> She walked up to him and stood to the side. Her hand came down so should stroke his head. “I know so. There’s going to be a lot of eyes on you tonight. Another sell out I hear.”</p><p> </p><p> “Good. That’ll be three thousand people again. We’re getting big.” He wrapped an arm around her leg, hand stroking her calve as he leaned against her.</p><p> </p><p> “We are. We’re a real company now, pinocchio.” She said with a laugh. “Sell outs, big crowds. We’re not going anywhere.”</p><p> </p><p> He laughed. “No we’re not. We’re entrenched.”</p><p> </p><p> She smiled and started to pull him to his feet. He stretched his back now that he was standing. “You got an idea for what you want to do?”</p><p> </p><p> “We’re going to call it in the ring. We know the finish already, but we’ll see how the fans are feeling and take it from there.”</p><p> </p><p> She leaned up to kiss his cheek. “I’m proud of you.”</p><p> </p><p> He grinned and kissed her on her forehead. “Well thanks. I’m proud of you too.”</p><p> </p><p> They stood there like this for a long moment. In this quiet part of the building, the quiet before the show starts. Just a moment between two lovers. They kissed for real before they broke it off. “Let’s go.” She said as she pulled him by the hand. It was almost showtime.</p><p> </p><p> Riley walked off with her and took a deep breath. Tonight, he was going to perform in front of 3,000 fans. Tonight, he was going to wrestle someone who had wrestled in front of 20,000 people. At wrestled on a Supreme Challenge but also been a staple of the independent scene. Someone who got it. </p><p> Riley was nervous. He couldn't show it. He was the champ. He was the cornerstone. He couldn't show nerves. He had to be the cool hand of the locker room. Steady and sure. He could tell Lisa, but he won't. Not right now. </p><p> </p><p> Right now, he was getting his game face on. Riley McManus versus James Prudence. Bring it.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Another thank you to The Lloyd who made me another set of graphics today to fit for narratives/backstage stuff. Rocky Mountain Wrestling is pleased to announce that two more students have graduated from the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling and will be making their debuts very soon. Both students have spent the past eight months training at the school and are incredibly excited to be making their professional debuts.</p><p> </p><p>

Pearl Flanders, a recent graduate of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling currently employed by American Women’s Wrestling made history in September at AWW: Girl Fight, when she became the first ever AWW World Women’s Champion.</p><p> </p><p>

Current Rocky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Champions, the Diaz Cousins, are both gearing up to make international appearances. James Diaz will be making a tour of Black Canvas Grappling while his cousin Logan will be making his debut with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling. Both men will continue to honor their commitments with Rocky Mountain Wrestling. This only helps our organization as it raises our international profile. We hope both men reach high levels of success on their tours.</p><p> </p><p>

Samoan Machine will also be touring with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling. The veteran grappler will continue to compete for Rocky Mountain Wrestling. A near house-hold name in Japan, he’s excited to continue his Japanese career while establishing himself on this side of the Pacific.</p><p> </p><p>

Riley McManus, current Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Champion, has been suspended for one month by promoter and matchmaker Robert Oxford due to his heinous attack on Joel Bryant at The Last Hard Men. The decision came down early this morning. Mr. Oxford said that McManus’ attack was “unprompted, unwarranted, and had to be dealt with. As Heavyweight Champion, McManus is expected to conduct himself in the most professional of manner. With his interruption of the Hall of Fame ceremony in July and this recent attack, I have made the decision to suspend him from Rocky Mountain Wrestling for one month, effective immediately.”</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="5tjiVR0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5tjiVR0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<img alt="Dx23zt4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Dx23zt4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

I took a bite of my chicken parmesan sandwich. I was alone at my table. The restaurant was near empty. I took another bite of my sandwich. While I wasn’t wrestling anymore, I still tried to eat relatively healthy. This was an exception. Chicken Parmesan sandwich, french fries topped with warm marinara sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. An ice cold Pepsi. My comfort food.</p><p> </p><p>

I didn’t need comfort for any professional reason. Business was going well. We were successful. We were consistently drawing near 3,000 fans -- our last several shows had all been sell outs. Creatively, I was as inspired as I had ever been. It was just one of those days. One of those days that society, at least my generation of society, isn’t supposed to talk about. One of those days where you don’t want to get out of the bed. You want to just run from the world and responsibilities. One of those days where the medicine really didn’t help much.</p><p> </p><p>

On these days, I eat chicken parmesan and fries smothered with delicious goodness. On these days, I sat at a booth by myself and tried to ignore the rest of the world. I took another bite and chased it with a swallow of Pepsi. This had been a battle I had been fighting since I was fourteen. Back then, no one said anything. You’d get a stigma with the diagnosis. So I learned to push it deep. I wasn’t until the mid 2000’s that I got an actual diagnosis and got on medicine. Before that it had all been self medication. I wasn’t the only one to live like that. To hide the illness in the closet. To be ashamed of it -- or to be ashamed to talk about it at the very least. There were lots of us in the ‘rasslin’ business. It seemed to attract us like flies. Maybe it’s because we could hide in plain sight. We could play the star on the television or in the ring and hide how we really felt. I was used to hiding in plain sight.</p><p> </p><p>

I dipped my fork into my fries so I could get a mouthful. Business was going good. Family life was going good. I was happy -- except today I wasn’t. I ate another bite of my sandwich and then my fries. Today wasn’t a day I could focus on business. Today wasn’t a day I could bring myself to care about booking or production or training. This is why it was good to have Joel and Riley and Marjorie. On days where I was fighting a losing battle, they helped me fight. They gave me space. They checked in on me, but they handled things when I mentally couldn’t. Today, I was afforded the space and time I needed and I was grateful. I took another bite of my sandwich. I took a deep breath. It was going to be okay. I *knew* that. I was going to be okay. I was okay.</p>
