EMLL Killer Instinct 2016

Sat W2 June 16, Attendance: 2.000 (sold out)

National Arena Tijuana, Northern Mexico

Shown live on México Verde, Ratings: 0.01 (12,590 viewers)

l2oNyp3.jpgvzJMFJw.jpglpm1WCl.jpgcJx6orc.jpg

The show begins with some backstage footage of El Bandido arguing with his nephew, Bandido Tejano, when Guerrero Muerto and Death's Head attack the living legend outta nowhere! Though not assisting them, Tejano isn't stopping them either; instead, he's content raising his hands and taking some steps back as the rudos beat down his uncle.

Boriken Love Machine (2-0) vs Cyclops (0-2) with Delirante

A Mortal Kombat V rematch, the opening match isn't really all that different from the original except for the fact that Cyclops is fighting to stay with EMLL after two consecutive losses. That and his manager finally jumping ship when she slaps him across the face after losing the first round; the good looking night club socialite's betrayal rocks Cyclops and he quickly loses the second round too, along with his manager and his job with the company, a devastating loss for the young luchador.

Winner: Boriken Love Machine Jr.

Flamenco Fabuloso (0-0) vs Máscara Delfín (0-2) with Carolina

From the feathered mask and ring outfit to the swagger and mannerisms, it looks like Flamenco Fabuloso has set out to redefine "camp" and all things exótico. The match itself is appropriately silly, with the 'spirit of the peacock' facing off against the 'spirit of the dolphin' via a series of fancy shadowfighting sequences. Neither man ever touches the other from bell to bell but their health bars still go red with each series of 'attacks' as this is supposedly a battle of wills and minds (that essentially plays out like a dance-off). Having his career on the line seems to be that extra motivation Máscara Delfín needs to power that one last big -implied- hadouken and in the end that's all he needs to win and secure his position on the EMLL roster.

Winner: Máscara Delfín

DeCipher (0-2) vs Delirium (1-1)

Third match tonight with someone risking their career with the company and DeCipher immediately hits full gear, looking for a quick win. Delirium is all too happy to oblige and respond in kind, but a lack of stamina causes him to stop more often than once and allow his opponent to either turn the tide or hit a big series of move to eventually win this short but action-packed match.

Winner: DeCipher

El Mítico Jr © (2-0) vs Payaso Jr (1-1)

So far known for his weird oddball matches, Payaso Jr ends up against a hot shot luchador with a title on the line and this is his chance to prove what he can do. Between the man's reputation, track record and antics, Mítico doesn't quite know how to react and the tricky clown somehow manages to win the first round, but once Mítico has his back against the wall, he kicks things into a whole new gear and brings the fight to Payaso to retain the title.

Winner: El Mítico Jr

Demon King (2-0) © vs Death's Head (2-0)

Two men on a winning streak that's lead them to a collision course with the Campeónato de Mexico on the line, this match is hard hitting and pretty even, with Demon King taking the first fall and Death's Head winning round two. It all comes down to a dramatic tie breaker and Death's Head looks to pummel his opponent into defeat, but his eagerness backfires when the champion manages to catch him in the Eternal Pain and quickly drain his health bar.

Winner: Demon King

La Estrella (0-2) vs Rebelde de Anarquia (1-1)

La Estrella is a former champion and main event player, so he's the obvious favorite here, on top of having the pressure of coming into the match after two losses. That doesn't mean the match itself is predictable and indeed, when Rebelde de Anarquia wins the first round, things get really tense but Estrella does manage to make his comeback and win the two next rounds, ensuring he will be seen again with EMLL.

Winner: La Estrella

Guerrero Muerto (1-1) vs Scorpion (2-0)

Once again, this matchup feels predictable but it is anything besides that. Muerto might be one of EMLL's top stars, but his track record is not his opponent's 2-0 streak. No titles or careers on the line in this fight, it still turns out to be pretty damn exciting, a chain wrestling seminar between two opponents who seem to instinctively know each other like the back of their hand. Things are as even as they can be, with the match taken to the third round and even then, Scorpion wins by the slightest fraction, the green on his health bar barely visible by the end.

Winner: Scorpion

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Snake King (1-1)

Snake King wasn't lying and this match is proof as he uses all sorts of slithery dodges, dirty tricks and psychological warfare to get in the champion's head. It's dramatic, but ultimately futile as Ángel shakes off the cobwebs and manages to win the match, keeping the top prize in the hands of a tecnico.

Winner: Ángel De México

A pre-recorded message from El Bandido opens the show. Still bearing the marks of the attack against him last month, Bandido says he's lost focus while fighting Guerrero Muerto and Death's Head, when the real problem is his traitorous nephew, Bandido Tejano, who he wants to face in the ring once he's recovered.

El Mítico Jr © (2-0) vs Death's Head (1-1)

After failing to capture the Campeónato de Mexico EMLL last month, this time Death's Head turns his attention to a title he held in the past. However, he'll have to get past El Mítico Jr to reclaim it and that's easier said than done given the youngster's undeniable talent. It is a very, very close fight between the technical champion and powerhouse challenger, but Mítico Jr manages to retain by the skin of his teeth, winning both rounds by a fraction.

Winner: El Mítico Jr

Flamenco Fabuloso (0-1) vs Leon Latino (0-0, debuting)

If Flamenco Fabuloso's match last week was a shadowfighting contest, this one's clearly a pose-off as he plays to the ego of his lionesque opponent to lure him into the wackiness that is a Comedy match in EMLL. There's a lot of flexing and cawking and roaring leading to the appropriate "Strutting Knee Drop" finisher, entertaining fans while giving Flamenco Fabuloso his first win with the promotion.

Winner: Flamenco Fabuloso

<img alt="7nXiDsK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7nXiDsK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

DeCipher (1-1) v La Estrella (1-1)

Back to "proper" lucha libre and a contest between two competitors who have been struggling to break through to the next level. La Estrella is surprisingly athletic in this one, dropping most of his usual tricks in favor of simply outfighting DeCipher in a clean fight and he manages to do so, winning both rounds to hit his Hollywood Press finisher for the exclamation point.

Winner: La Estrella

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Scorpion (2-0) vs Snake King (1-1)

Scorpion's on the rise and Snake King recovering from another title loss to Ángel De México, but don't let momentum and metrics deceive you, this is one of the hardest matches to predict and it plays out as such, an extremely close, competitive bout between two hungry fighters. Scorpion is barely able to come away with the victory in the end, mainly thanks to a lucky opening that allows him to slap on the Scorpion Deathlock and drain Snake King's remaining health bar.

Winner: Scorpion

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Guerrero Muerto (0-2) vs Máscara Delfín (1-1) (with Carolina)

Guerrero Muerto is coming off a hard fought match he lost to Scorpion and it shows in his performance, making this bout way more even than expected against Máscara Delfín who, in comparison, had an easier job against Flamenco Fabuloso last month. This is also reflected in the course of the match with each man winning a round to send the bout to a third round tie-breaker that Muerto ends up winning though Máscara Delfín makes him work really hard for it first.

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Blue Phantom (2-0)

Two great competitors on winning streaks. Two talented and popular luchadors, fighting for the top prize in the company. Everything looks like this is going to be a barn-burner but for some reason, Ángel and Phantom decide to turn things to eleven and steal the show with a frantic paced match full of big moves, athletic flips, crazy dives and spectacle galore. Experience ends up being the difference maker, with Ángel exploiting every little mistake his younger opponent makes to retain the title and make defense number five since winning it.

Winner: Ángel De México

As Ángel De México is handed the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL and raises it in the air in celebration, Guerrero Muerto and Death's Head hit the ring to assault the exhausted champion, beating him down just like they did to El Bandido in the opening of last month's Killer Instinct show.

Demon King (2-0) © vs Boriken Love Machine Jr. (2-0) (with Delirante)

Straight to the good stuff, the broadcast kicks off with a title match between two hotshot young prospects in Demon King and Boriken Love Machine Jr. who have been on a winning streak and thus, a collision course. Though individually skilled, the two men don't exactly click in terms of showmanship and the result is a match that feels a bit awkward, or at least not as spectacular as it should. Still, it's a hard fought and pretty open contest that goes to the third tie-breaking round, with Boriken Love Machine Jr. barely edging out a win to end Demon King's reign with the Campeónato de Mexico EMLL.

Flamenco Fabuloso (1-1) vs Máscara Delfín (1-1) (with Carolina)

Revisiting their "shadowboxing" comedy clash at Killer Instinct two months ago, Flamenco and Delfin deliver another nugget of spectacular silliness, this time engaging in a kung fu-esque contest where each man pulls off moves reminiscent of their 'spirit animal'. This basically means Flamenco Fabuloso does a lot of strutting around with his chest puffed out before cawking out loud, while Delfin's into flips for flips' sake before somehow winning this match with the Delfinisher, because it's a great name and it fits the style of the whole match, right?

Fray Valiente Jr. (1-1) vs Snake King (0-2)

The young luchador's hit a few rough spots since joining the EMLL roster, but true to the heritage and spirit of his mask, keeps on fighting with resolve, grit and determination against his snaky, sneaky, slithery opponent in this match. It's a very straightforward "good vs evil" story told, with the confident former champion toying with his opponent for most of the match. Valiente has his moments and makes a bit of a comeback but Snake King is quick to shut him down and get the job done before finishing Valiente off with a Snake-Bite.

DeCipher (1-1) vs Guerrero Muerto (1-1)

An interesting change of pace from the previous matches, this one's a clash of minds as much as bodies, a technical grapple contest that plays out a lot like a chess match with hold and counterhold back and forth. DeCipher's complicated holds are literal riddles for Muerto to get out of, but the undead luchador always seem to find a way out before responding in kind, eventually draining DeCipher's health bar enough to hit the Graveyard Shift and win the match.

Winner: Guerrero Muerto

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Ángel De México cuts a promo to speak his mind and address Guerrero Muerto and Death's Head who attacked him after his match at last month's Dragon Doble. His vengeful words are interrupted by La Estrella, who walks into the camera shot and tells the Campeón de Mundo EMLL it's him he should be worried about because tonight, he will take that title away from him and prove who the real star of EMLL is!

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

El Bandido (2-0) vs Delirium (1-1)

After the opener and Snake King vs Fray Valiente Jr, this is the third match in the show that's brought down by awkwardness between the two luchadors and their styles not meshing well. Delirium is his usual crazy but entertaining self and even shows some sparks of greatness but the living legend of lucha libre is just too good for him to beat, even at this stage of his career and Bandido scores another victory with his trademarck Hijack Suplex.

Winner: El Bandido

Bandido takes the time to cut a promo after his win, saying this victory was proof he's back in shape and ready to finally face his traitorous nephew, Bandido Tejano.

<img alt="IqChfad.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IqChfad.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Scorpion (2-0) vs Blue Phantom (1-1)

Two men with opposite trajectories clash in this match, Scorpion coming off a big win over former Campeón de Mundo EMLL Snake King, whereas Blue Phantom is fresh of a defeat at the hands of the current Campeón de Mundo EMLL, Ángel De México. Taking match quality to the next level, this impressive contest has viewers on the edge of their seat as momentum swings back and forth again and again with both luchadors constantly hitting big moves out of nowhere. The unpredictability and even odds send the match to the third round with each man having one fall to their name and it's Blue Phantom who manages to come out on top, though barely and with just a fraction of his health bar remaining.

Winner: Blue Phantom

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs La Estrella (2-0)

The bar is already set pretty high after the Blue Phantom vs Scorpion match but it seems as though champion and challenger take that as a challenge and pull out all the stops to top it. Unlike his usual dastardly self, La Estrella actually looks like he's trying to prove a point and fight with honor and score a clean, undisputed victory. This in turn brings out the best in the heroic Ángel De México and the two men wrestle a true epic, with Estrella's straightforward approach eventually costing him the match when he takes a moment too long to think about taking advantage of a blindsided Ángel; minutes later, he finds himself on the working end of a Mexican Death and Ángel retains the gold.

Ángel De México begins the show with another promo hyping up his main event title defence. He talks about how Snake King is a formidable, smart, sneaky opponent that's been a thorn on his side for too long and promises that tonight he'll put an end to it all for good.

Guerrero Muerto (1-1) vs El Medico (0-1)

El Medico is still struggling to get his groove on in EMLL and being up against a living skeleton doesn't do him any favors. Besides his comedy spots, Medico has little to show in terms of offense and a furious Guerrero Muerto takes this match in dominant fashion, winning both rounds.

Winner: Guerrero Muerto

Payaso Jr (1-1) vs Máscara Delfín (1-1) (with Carolina)

This comedy bout provides a much needed breather after the hot opening and Muerto steamrolling past Medico; Payaso tries to distract his opponent with baloon animals of predatory fish like sharks and killer whales, but goes to far when he tries to put together a baloon fishing ship and it blows up in his face. Máscara Delfín makes his comeback and musters the power of the sea in order to hit the Delfinisher, but that never happens as Payaso Jr pulls off a big C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER to interrupt his opponent's finish sequence with a Clown Cradle of his own.

Winner: Payaso Jr.

<img alt="M4SOg7D.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M4SOg7D.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Scorpion (0-2) vs Trickster (1-1)

Trickster's approach is to try and lure in his desperate opponent who's fighting to remain on the roster, but it all backfires when Scorpion commands him to GET OVER HERE and delivers the Scorp Bomb to win the match and live to fight another day in an EMLL ring.

Winner: Scorpion

Another message from El Mítico Jr airs next, in which the holder of the Campeónato de Histórico EMLL says he wants to end the dastardly Trickster for good. Following this loss to Scorpion, Mítico will make it 0-2 to oust him out of EMLL and to achieve this, he's willing to put his title on the line to get that match!

<img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Death's Head (1-1) vs DeCipher (1-1)

The power moves and intensity of Death's Head aren't exactly a sight to see when up against DeCipher's cerebral style of wrestling. The trickery earns DeCipher fall number one, only to fire up Death's Head who wins fall number two, prolonging this awkward match until DeCipher manages to reverse a powerbomb into a rolling rana pin out of nowhere.

Winner: DeCipher

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

The camera catches La Estrella in a movie set during a break from shooting and the Hollywood Luchador is all to happy to oblige when paid attention. He talks about a guest role in an action series as footage of his stunts roll on video.

<img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

El Bandido (2-0) vs Blue Phantom (1-1)

Fans are all on Bandido's side when this begins, but Phantom really pulls off the performance of his life against the living lucha legend, slowly but surely winning fans over with his impressive attacks. The pace is kept high from bell to bellas Phantom tries to wear out the veteran, but Bandido shows he still has it in him, never missing a beat and finally winning the bout with his Hijack Suplex.

Winner: El Bandido

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Snake King (2-0)

For anyone wondering why faces and heels in lucha libre are called tecnicos and rudos, this match is a textbook visual explanation. Ángel De México has fans on his corner thanks to his athletic, high flying moves that get them to cheer for him and the spectacle he provides. Snake King on the other hand, while not as great a wrestler, does a great job of being rude towards the fans and denying them of the action: he cowers away to disrupt the flow of the match and stop his opponent's momentum, he slows the match down with submission holds and isn't shy about cheating when he thinks he can get away with it. Eventually though, good triumphs over evil and Ángel hits a Mexican Death so hard it almost knocks the mask out of Snake King's head to wrap up another successful title defense.

The show kicks off with a promo/PSA from El Bandido, wishing everyone a happy Dia de los Muertos and hyping up the night's show. Regarding the main event especially, he mentions that tonight is a special night for Guerrero Muerto and his power may be greater than ever, but this won't last long and Bandido has not forgotten about him and Death's Head.

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Flamenco Fabuloso (1-1) vs Zebra Man (0-2) (with Lucia Valencia)

Not seen in quite some time, Zebra Man returns to action in a match to defend his EMLL career and that's got him fighting with a renewed vigor and a sense of urgency to his attacks. Not really playing up the comedy aspect of their animal-inspired masks, this is a pretty competitive match but with the pretty Lucia Valencia nearby, Flamenco Fabuloso sooner or later turns his attention to her and Zebra Man is able to win the fight.

Winner: Zebra Man

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Payaso Jr (2-0) vs Crazy Miguel (0-0)

Crazy Miguel's wacky character may have gotten over north of the border as a loco luchador, but the man under the mask really does have a flair for comedy and still makes it work in front of a Mexican crowd. It does help that his particular brand of humor seems to mesh perfectly with Payaso's and the match quickly turns into an impromptu comedy competition, complete with the fighters' life bars draining depending on how hard the audience laughs with their opponent's joke. It's a close contest, but Crazy Miguel barely edges it with a surreal comeback to one Payaso's puns to get the win.

Winner: Crazy Miguel

<img alt="7nXiDsK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7nXiDsK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<img alt="8cri1JW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8cri1JW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Another promo/PSA airs next, this time by Ángel De México. The Campeón de Mundo EMLL wishes everyone a happy Dia de los Muertos and says that he may not be scheduled to wrestle tonight, but will be making a comeback next month to defend his title as the people's champion. Judging by fan reaction, he isn't exaggerating either, because he gets cheered harder than El Bandido even.

<img alt="sma3Die.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/sma3Die.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

El Mítico Jr (2-0) © vs Trickster (1-1)

Another luchador who hasn't wrestled for a while, Mítico returns to defend the Campeónato de Histórico EMLL and despite his challenger's recent ups and downs, Trickster proves to be a dangerous opponent thanks to both his technical prowess and his sneaky tricks. Mítico is all fire and storms round one to get the first fall and while Trickster almost takes round two, Mítico makes a big comeback and turns things around to also win round two and thus the match.

Winner: El Mítico Jr

El Mítico Jr makes defence number 4 of his Campeónato de Histórico EMLL title

Demon King (0-2) vs La Estrella (1-1)

Much like with his stunt highlight reel from last month, Estrella really pulls out all the stops and hits some amazing aerial offense to turn up the heat. Demon King is all to happy to play along as a loss here would mean he'd be ousted from EMLL so the two luchadors provide a show stealing performance for three dramatic rounds. Demon King wins the first fall to a mixed reaction as apparently Estrella's skills have won him a part of the audience over and that plays into the Hollywood Luchador making it to fall number two. The tie breaker round is as even as they come, but Demon King barely edges it just seconds before the time limit.

Winner: Demon King

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Death's Head (1-1) vs Mascara Delfin (0-2) (with Carolina)

Death's Head is a big, menacing rudo and his power-based offense is a sight to behold in EMLL's high flying roster. This brute force earns him the first fall but apparently also makes him a bit too cocky, which allows Mascara Delfin to make a comeback and win round two. The upset gets Death's Head enraged as we go into the third and final fall, with Mascara Delfin exploiting his opponent's emotional outrage and recklessness to score a big underdog victory.

Winner: Mascara Delfin

<img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Scorpion (1-1) vs Snake King (1-1)

Two skilled and popular luchadors meet in this match coming from completely opposite points; Scorpion is fresh from saving his EMLL career after two consecutive losses, while Snake King from a winning streak that earned him a title shot for the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL, only for Ángel De México to once again defeat him. The match and announcers play up that story and Scorpion fights full of confidence to take the first round. Instead of that lighting a fire under Snake King, it seems to sap his self confidence instead and the match ends at two-nil in favor of Scorpion, who seals the deal with a devastating Scorp Bomb.

Winner: Scorpion

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

DeCipher (2-0) vs Guerrero Muerto (1-1)

The first show this year to not feature a title match for the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL in the main event, instead this one sees Guerrero Muerto shine as the calaca come to life on Dia de los Muertos. Between that and his opponent looking like a Batman villain rip-off, the main event feels like a comic book come to life and fans clearly enjoy the spectacle even if no title is on the line. Decipher smartly exploits the pressure his opponents seems to be under given the gravity of the occasion, but Muerto just isn't losing tonight; he takes shot after shot to rebound, until he eventually just no-sells DeCipher's offense as the crowd goes wild for the finale and his Graveyard Shift.

Winner: Guerrero Muerto

Death's Head (0-2) vs Demon King (1-1)

EMLL's final show of 2016 began with a hotly contested match between the brutal Death's Head and the talented but desperate Demon King who seemed to have lost his footing ever since he lost the Campeónato de Mexico EMLL to Boriken Love Machine Jr. This was also the story of the match, with Death's Head pummeling his way to a round 1 win, only to fire up Demon King into a comeback and sending the bout to round three, where Demon King got so carried away, he attempted to rip his opponent's mask apart, a cardinal sin in lucha libre and one that caused him to forfeit the match.

Winner: Death's Head

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Following his defeat in a manner most uncommon for EMLL, Demon King made a short speech where he was expected to apologize for his actions, yet no apology was made; instead, Demon King said he regrets nothing and is willing to do anything, like a man posessed, to get back on top.

Trickster (0-2) vs Mascara Delfin (1-1) (with Carolina)

Trickster was fighting for his career in this match and while this did push him to perform on a higher level, his submission-based style clearly doesn't click with that sense of urgency or Máscara Delfín's flashy high flying attacks. A decent, but otherwise forgettable contest, with Trickster winning in the tie-breaker round to remain with EMLL.

Winner: Trickster

Crazy Miguel (1-0) vs Flamenco Fabuloso (0-2)

This was by far the match of the oddballs and both men played that fact up for comedy value. While entertaining, it was hardly a watchable match in terms of actual wrestling and Flamenco Fabuloso came away with the win, courtesy of his Strutting Knee Drop, which is probably what the People's Elbow would look like if the Rock was an ultra camp, gender-ambiguous luchador.

Winner: Flamenco Fabuloso

Snake King (0-2) vs Zebra Man (1-1)

Snake King's loss to Scorpion last month may have been somewhat unexpected, but it also pushed the former champion back into the 0-2 spot fighting for his career. The pressure was on and despite a solid performance from Zebra Man, Snake King delivered to win both rounds in dominant fashion and continue wrestling for EMLL.

Winner: Snake King

<img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Next up was a pre-taped message from Boriken Love Machine Jr, filmed at some sunny beach in Puerto Rico despite this being December. With the Campeónato de Mexico EMLL around his waist, the champion cut a promo to hype up his return to action before Delirante crashed the scene in a hot swimsuit with a cocktail in hand and obliviously dancing to carry the champion off camera and onto the dancefloor.

El Mítico Jr (2-0) © vs Blue Phantom (0-2)

Despite his recent 0-2 losing streak, Blue Phantom is every bit a young prodigy as El Mítico Jr and while the champion has been busy defending his title, Phantom wrestled the likes of Bandido and Ángel De México in show-stealing performances which made him more than qualified to challenge for this title. Both men used this match to showcase what the buzz around their names is all about, putting on a lucha clinic between Phantom's high flying and Mítico's technical prowess. This was further enhanced by the apparent chemistry between the two competitors, who seemed tailor made to wrestle each other and the match went to a dramatic third round, with Phantom barely edging the match to defeat El Mítico Jr and finally claim his first championship in EMLL.

Winner and NEW Campeón de Histórico EMLL: Blue Phantom

Guerrero Muerto was on camera next, saying his last match against DeCipher got him thinking about his experience fighting Ángel De México at Dia de los Muertos. The young grappler said this breathed some new life into his bones and he is looking to experience the same thrill tonight when he and Ángel meet once more.

<img alt="mwL0z0W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mwL0z0W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

El Bandido (2-0) vs La Estrella (1-1)

Yet again, La Estrella delivered some exciting aerial offense that had part of the fans rooting for him, which is no small feat considering he was up against the living legend and one of the most popular luchadors of all time, El Bandido. Despite losing the match, Estrella put on a great performance and even Bandido seemed surprised by how hard the youngster pushed him before the match was over.

Winner: El Bandido

<img alt="pyf9Pt4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pyf9Pt4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

After the match, Estrella grabbed a mic and cut a textbook babyface promo about how El Bandido has been an inspiration to him and how working for his company has pushed him to succeed in both movies and lucha libre. The promo got a good response from the audience and Bandido shook the youngster's hand to seal his tecnico turn.

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Guerrero Muerto (2-0)

Ángel and Guerrero Muerto had a rough job headlining the show after the last couple of matches and Estrella's face turn, but they delivered with another chapter in the eternal saga of good versus evil and the patriotic tecnico against the undead rudo. In keeping up with his speech earlier, Guerrero Muerto's offense felt much riskier and more energetic than usual, but once more it was just not enough to help him defeat Ángel De México, who stomped his head in with a Mexican Death to a thunderous approval from the fans.

Winner: Ángel De México

Crazy Miguel (1-1) vs Lunatic (0-2)

Lunatic entered this match after a pretty long absence and with his career on the line after losing his last two matches in EMLL, meaning he was relentless from bell to bell against the wacky new face in the company. After two action-packed rounds with Lunatic never really losing control of the match, he topped it off with the Luna-Cycle and squeezed the last bits out of Crazy Miguel's life bar to win the match and remain on the EMLL roster.

Flamenco Fabuloso (1-1) vs Soda de la Uva Jr (0-2)

If the visual hint of both competitors sporting purple masks wasn't obvious enough, they made a pretty big deal out of it as they spent most of the opening minutes of this match being awkward towards each other. This of course was only the start of what would be a match full of comedy spots, although apparently there was more than just that; the two men seemed to have good chemistry as opponents and Flamenco Fabuloso especially pulled off some actual wrestling moves, though in the end it wasn't enough to save him from his opponent's Grape Press finisher.

Winner: Soda de la Uva Jr

Fray Valiente Jr (0-2) vs Payaso Jr (1-1)

New Year and not exactly new faces, but plenty of luchadors who haven't been seen for a while returned to action in EMLL's first show of 2017. Apparently all of those men also made a New Year's Resolution to remain with the company too, because Valiente was able to win this match against the evil clown, a rare contest where Payaso Jr did more wrestling than comedy in the ring. Sadly, the magic just wasn't there, the two fighters did not click with each other and the actual match wasn't as good as it probably should have been. Maybe Payaso Jr should just stick to comedy?

Winner: Fray Valiente Jr

<img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

El Medico (0-2) vs Trickster (1-1)

Given EMLL's gimmick of "lucha meets fighting game mechanics" it should come as no surprise that Medico's latest act is him being able to replenish part of his health bar during the match. This was one ace up his sleeve Trickster had not prepared for and that really made the difference, allowing Medico to pull off a comeback from behind to turn the complexity of the match around and score a victory over the two-faced luchador.

Winner: El Medico

Delirium (0-2) vs Zebra Man (1-1) (with Lucia Valencia)

Delirium's wild ways may make for an entertaining act, but they have been known to also quickly burn through his energy reserve so this match was about which man would be able to impose the match pace that fitted him better. Zebra Man was off to a good start, but between the adrenaline rush and Lucia Valencia's cheers, he got carried away and Delirium was able to overwhelm him, hitting the Dazed and Confused just six minutes into the bout to secure a victory and his continued run in EMLL.

Boriken Love Machine Jr (2-0) © (with Delirante) vs Máscara Delfín (1-1) (with Carolina)

First of the show's two title matches and a long absent Boriken Love Machine Jr returned to action in order to defend his Campeónato de Mexico EMLL against Máscara Delfín. Despite his long absence, the champion looked like he never missed a beat and actually was surprisingly focused despite the presence of two very good looking females around the ring, winning both rounds in decisive fashion and sealing his first title defense with the Love Gun.

Winner: Boriken Love Machine Jr

El Mítico Jr had some strong words to say about Blue Phantom next, in light of the former defeating him at EMLL Lucha Final 2016 for the Campeónato de Histórico EMLL. Mítico said he finally found a challenging rival and if that match between them was any indication, they are bound to meet again, ending his promo with a promise that next time the outcome will be very different.

Guerrero Muerto (1-1) vs Scorpion (2-0)

Guerrero Muerto's recent "transformation" into a much more livid, energetic and sometimes risk-taking luchador seems to be paying dividends already and that was the story told in this match against one of EMLL's most consistently good wrestlers struggling to break into the upper echelons of the roster. It didn't hurt that these two men seemed to have great chemistry in the ring and Scorpion even improvised a spot based on his own character's "back from the dead" backstory to get back at Muerto, but there was no denying the deadman on this night and after the Graveyard Shift, Guerrero Muerto picked up a big win to end this bout.

Winner: Guerrero Muerto

Death's Head (1-1) vs El Bandido (2-0)

Much like Scorpion, Death's Head is struggling to get past the gates and it doesn't get easier when the gatekeeper in this match was the living lucha legend himself, El Bandido. Unlike Scorpion though, Death's Head lacks the spectacular in-ring performances but still has the looks, power and menacing aura to be memorable. Still, those didn't do him much good against the fan-favourite veteran and as pretty much expected, it was Bandido who came off the encounter with the win.

Winner: El Bandido

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A hype package video aired next, blending footage of La Estrella's action move shots, his EMLL matches and his recent change of heart after a match with El Bandido, essentially a recap video for fans who needed to catch up with his recent tecnico turn.

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Snake King (1-1)

Will anyone ever be able to take the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL off Ángel De México? Not in the near future apparently, and certainly not when the champion looks like he did in this match. Though not openly acknowledged on screen, his recent touring of Japan with PGHW clearly sharpened his in-ring skills and he clearly called some spots on the fly in order to play to the extremely loud audience that seemed to be into every little move he did, all the way to the final Mexican Death that put Snake King out.

<img alt="vzJMFJw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/vzJMFJw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I took a sip of water and put the bottle carefully away, making sure there was no danger of it accidentally spilling its contents over the stacks of papers I had gathered on the table that served as my office. Afterwards, I adjusted my posture on the chair and picked up my notes.

As good of a broadcast deal I thought I had struck with Mexico Verde, the income just wasn't pouring in fast enough to help me reach uncle 'dido's target number in time. Lucha Final was not just the final show of the 2016, it was also the final EMLL show that aired on that channel before our initial one year deal expired. Once that was over, I decided I'd rather take a chance and invest some more money on our production values in order to reach a new station instead. Canal Tres were willing to negotiate and they gave us a spot early in the evening so we could still reach the younger audience. With EMLL Prueba Tu Fuerza 2017 marking our debut on Canal Tres, I now had the numbers to run a comparison and evaluate whether my gamble had paid off. I mean, nation-wide coverage was an upgrade on its own and the bump from almost 15 to 40 thousand viewers should be expected, but what really mattered for me was the TV Revenue. Seeing it had nearly quadrupled, I knew I'd made the right choice.

<img alt="Ae98ZpW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Ae98ZpW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cJx6orc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cJx6orc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Senor Montero understood my position and instead of demanding a share of the fresh profits, he actually agreed to take almost a $500 pay cut when he came in to "negotiate" the extension of his contract. It wasn't the same with Death's Head. I mean, he wasn't greedy, but he hadn't exactly done much to justify his continued existence on our roster, let alone a pay raise. Sure, at age 25 he still had time to grow, but there were plenty of youngsters doing better or improving faster than him. I already had an undead character in Guerrero Muerto and as far as being a big bruiser went, he was hard to sell when folks like Mítico and Boriken looked bigger than him.

Thinking about Death's Head made me realize that despite featuring a pretty athletic product, EMLL lacked what you'd actually call a typical "monster heel". El Jeffe Militar had long been on my radar, but I decided to check the market once more in hopes of finding a masked luhador that could fill in that spot. And while I did not find that, I discovered something else that completely blew my mind.Moments later, the deal was struck and I was about to call uncle 'dido to break the news to him, but first I was curious as to when and why exactly SOTBPW were dumb enough to let such a man walk away. Again, I didn't get what I was looking for, but I stumbled upon something way more interesting. But first, some context.

<img alt="l2oNyp3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/l2oNyp3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Qzq3r9O.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Qzq3r9O.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="YsFPRIU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YsFPRIU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="3osuvMX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3osuvMX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Uncle 'dido, or El Bandido as everyone else knew him, made his name in the now-defunct MPWF before he had his golden period, in terms of success, between 1999 and 2005, when he was the SOTBPW champion on four separate occasions, churning out awesome matches on a near-nightly basis. After that he returned to MPWF but in April of 2012, to the surprise of many, as by that time the promotion hadn't been yet hit hard by SOTBPW's meteoric rise, uncle 'dido left his twenty-year home of MPWF in order to set up his own group, EMLL. Clearly, that didn't sit well with "Mr. MPWF" Domino, the man who had risen to be that company's figurehead and subsequent owner, neither did the exodus of most of his main eventers a couple of years later. Following the inevitable bankruptcy of MPWF and his own retirement from the ring, Domino had jumped ship to OLLIE where he worked as a road agent, before making a move after the retirement of previous owner Joaquin Soler. Now at the helm of Mexico's oldest promotion, Domino was out for revenge. Apparently he wasn't fond of our new nation-wide broadcast deal with Canal Tres and he made that sentiment known, with uncle Bandido returning the favour thanks to his own bitter memories of the man before he left MPWF.

Things weren't going to get any easier, but then again, our new big signing would be a huge asset in this new battle. Well, at least until SOTBPW bought him back, I suppose.

Extremo Mondo de Lucha Libre presents

EMLL Fatalidad 2017

Sat W2 February 17

Main Event

La Estrella (0-2) vs Snake King (1-1)

Semi Main Event

Title match for the Campeónato de Histórico EMLL

Blue Phantom (1-1) © vs DeCipher (2-0)

Death's Head (1-1) vs Máscara Delfín (0-2)

Delirium (1-1) vs Scorpion (1-1)

Payaso Jr (0-2) vs Soda de la Uva Jr (1-1)

Trickster (1-1) vs Zebra Man (0-2)
