Diary Revival #1: Narf Poit Wrestling

Hello, and welcome to the first diary in a series I'm hoping to grow here on the forums: Diary Revival! The basic premise is that I go through obsolete diaries on the forums (starting with the one that's had the longest since being added to and going chronologically) and start my own diary, heavily based on them.

The first is New Vegas Wrestling's Narf Poit Wrestling! I have no idea what Narf Poit means, and I couldn't find a suitable early-2016 RW Mod, so it'll be based in 2019 instead, but I've used the editor to acquire NVW's original starting roster, detailed in the following quote box:

I've set Chris Jericho as the owner of Narf Poit Wrestling and given them $10,000,000 (Jericho is worth an estimated $18,000,000, so I figured I'd allocate $8,000,000 for buying out contracts from WWE, etc and leave myself the rest to play with) and will be playing as him, as the impression I got from this very brief diary was that of complete control (ie playing as owner rather than booker).

I signed everyone on the roster to 12 month written deals, so I only have them guaranteed for the first year, then it's going to get interesting, fast. The first show in NVW's diary was scheduled to be called "Death March" (as seen in the next quote block), so I'm going to run a show by that name in March 2019 as our first show, then take it from there!

That was the final post in the diary, which hasn't been touched since April 2016. I think it's a real shame, as NVW clearly put a lot of effort into the graphics! Well, well, well. Look at what a new company with a bit of money behind it can achieve! So far, we had bought out several of WWE's top stars' contracts, signed some of the rest of wrestling's brightest stars, and now WWE were being noticeably hostile towards us.

Miller rolled out of the ring and lay motionless on the outside as Zack Major (FKA Zack Ryder in WWE) jumped down off the apron to check on his tag partner. This brought the match down to a straight-up tag team match, at least temporarily. Lee and Pentagon went at it, showing exactly what they're capable of in the ring, bringing the crowd to their feet on several occasions. After several tags back and forth, Pentagon hit Bray Rotunda (FKA Bray Wyatt in WWE) with a Superkick, then hooked Lee for the Fear Factor... <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Joey Styles" data-cite="Joey Styles" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46374" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>And he hits it! As the Demons were double teaming Miller, Brodie Lee went to slide back into the ring, but Bray grabbed his ankle. Lee looked round, confused, and Bray signalled for a tag. Brodie tagged him in, and Bray dropped back off the apron, dragging Brodie out and sitting them both down with their backs to the ring apron. Meanwhile, in the ring, Miller ducked a Clothesline by El Hijo del Fantasma (now to be known as EHdF for short) and hit one of his own. The crowd came alive, wanting to see Zack Major in the match for the first time. Miller crawled over... and he got the tag! Major came in like a house on fire, taking down EHdF, knocking Pentagon off the apron, and setting EHdF up in the corner for a Major Boot. Three "woo" chants and one kick to the face later, and EHdF was out cold! That's when Bray rushed the ring, spinning Major round and hitting his trademark STO. He then dragged EHdF to his feet, kissed his forehead and hit another STO. Pentagon tried to climb into the ring, but Brodie sprinted across and hit a Big Boot. He spent the first minute or so wasting time, rolling in to break the referee's count only to immediately roll back out, and talking trash. Eventually, Ryback had had enough and gave chase, much to the delight of the crowd. Kendrick slid into the ring, Ryback chased him in, and Kendrick started stomping away. Kendrick hit the ropes and threw himself at Ryback with a Running Crossbody Block... and completely bounced off him, bouncing across and out of the ring. Ryback wasn't falling for that trick again, and followed immediately, keeping up the pressure. Ryback pressed Kendrick above his head and dropped him face first onto the announcers' table, threw him into the ringside barricades, and just generally mauled Kendrick, and the crowd ate it up, although a few of the impacts made the front row wince. He was followed by Drew Galloway, who made a point of staring down both Rhino and Wild before taking his place in a pod. The final participant to have a spot in a pod was Thoruf Marius (FKA Erick Rowan, or just Rowan, in WWE). Hager tried to lead a "we the people" with the crowd, but Brian Kendrick's accusation of racism was still fresh in the minds of the audience, so they just booed. Hager looked at the crowd in disbelief, and KENTA pounced. KENTA kicked Hager all around the ring, literally, much to the delight of the fans. Eventually, Hager managed to pick the leg and started working it over, obviously trying to kill two birds with one stone: setting up for a future Ankle Lock and weakening KENTA's brutal kicks. After three minutes had passed, the first pod was randomly selected to be opened, and Drew Galloway was released! Drew walked up to Hager, who was motioning to him to double team KENTA. Drew smiled, then his face dropped and he headbutted Hager! The crowd cheered, but that soon died down when Galloway started stomping away on KENTA's already hurt leg. Hager crawled to the opposite corner of the ring and unsteadily dragged himself to his feet by using the ropes. He turned to face the centre of the ring... and ate a Claymore Kick from Galloway! Three seconds later, Hager was the first man eliminated! As the referees opened the Chamber door to get Hager out, the next pod was randomly selected... It was Matti Wild! Galloway got a sinister smile across his face, and Wild held his pod door closed so he wouldn't have to enter the match. Drew waited patiently, but had made the mistake of turning his back on KENTA, who recovered and kicked him in the back! KENTA started laying in kicks on any part of Galloway that he wasn't covering, the referee's helped a still groggy Jake Hager out of the Chamber, and Matti Wild scurried out of his pod and out of the Chamber after Hager! Wild insisted the referees close and lock the Chamber door, and stood outside, jawing with the fans at ringside and watching the action in the ring. In the ring, it was a hard-hitting affair. Neither Galloway nor KENTA was holding back, and colour commentator Don Callis speculated that Wild had made the best move of the match so far! As the match approached the 9 minute mark, the next pod was randomly selected... Tyler Black was next! The crowd booed Black vociferously as he entered the ring and started to beat down KENTA. Black and Galloway looked at each other, Galloway smiled and Black jumped back to avoid a potential headbutt, but none came. KENTA had angered Galloway now, so he was happy to form a temporary alliance to hurt him! For three minutes, Galloway and Black beat down on KENTA, cutting him off whenever he tried to rally back, but they were unable to put him away. At 12 minutes, the final pod opened and Rhino entered the match. Rhino ran in and hit Tyler Black with a vicious Gore! Drew Galloway grabbed Rhino, whipped him off the ropes, but Rhino ducked the Clothesline, hit the opposite ropes, then hit Galloway with a Gore! The crowd was going wild for "The Man Beast," when out of nowhere, KENTA lifted him onto his shoulders and hit a Go To Sleep! KENTA covered Rhino and got the three count for the second elimination! KENTA then went back to work on Galloway and Black, making sure to keep both men down with kicks to avoid suffering the same fate he was before Rhino entered the match... <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Joey Styles" data-cite="Joey Styles" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46374" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>GORE! GORE! GORE!</div></blockquote> Rhino had recovered and nailed KENTA with a Gore out of nowhere, then went to leave the Chamber! As soon as the door was opened, Matti Wild scurried in and pinned KENTA for the third elimination! Matti ran back for the door, but it had already been locked behind Rhino. He stood by and waited for KENTA to be escorted out, so he could escape again... However, KENTA recovered enough to deliver stiff kicks to Wild, followed by his second Go To Sleep of the match! KENTA then left the Chamber to a thunderous ovation from the crowd, and the door was shut behind him, locking Wild in with Galloway and Black, who were both slowly getting to their feet! Realising what had happened, Galloway ran at Black and attempted a Claymore Kick, but Black dodged the impact, backed up and went for a Stomp, only for Drew to launch him into the air and catch him with a headbutt on the way down! Galloway began working over Black, throwing vicious stomps, punches and even grounded headbutts. Eventually, Galloway backed up to the corner and motioned for Black to get to his feet, clearly lining up another Claymore attempt. As he was focused on Black, Wild slipped into the ring and went for a Schoolboy roll-up, but couldn't take Galloway off his feet! Galloway grabbed Wild by the head and lifted him up, placed him in position and hit a Double Arm DDT for the fourth elimination! Drew got to his hands and knees, looked at the crowd and smiled... then got his head Stomped straight into the mat! Tyler Black had recovered and now was lying on Drew Galloway! Eventually, Jericho managed to fight his way back into the match, and the match became much more of a back-and-forth affair. Good went for the Double Arm DDT, but Jericho span out and leapt up for a Codebreaker, but Good grabbed the top rope behind him, dropping Jericho onto his back. Good then slowly leaned backwards through between the top and middle ropes and see-sawed himself back onto his feet, then grinned at the crowd, who booed him even more vigorously for the blatant reference to his WWE moveset. While he was taunting the crowd, Jericho got back to his feet and hit and Bulldog, leaving Good in perfect position for a Lionsault! The first couple of minutes were spent chain wrestling, until Nakamura got the upper hand and laid a stiff kick into PAC's chest. PAC flinched, looked at the footprint on his chest, shrugged and started circling the ring again. Eventually, the pace picked up, as everyone in attendance knew it would. 10 minutes in, PAC took Nakamura down, climbed the top rope, and landed a Black Arrow! TWO! ... NO!! Nakamura kicked out at two and nine tenths!</div></blockquote> PAC was stunned. Nakamura was in a lot of trouble, but he just couldn't put him away. Then his eyes slowly climbed the cage, which brought the crowd to a fever pitch. They broke out into a "yes" chant, with PAC taking a moment to admire the sight of 25,000 people encouraging him to do something incredibly stupid. And something stupid he did! He climbed the cage, steadied himself on the top, turned around, and leapt for another Black Arrow... and found nothing but canvas! Nakamura had rolled out of the way at the last second, and PAC hit the mat. Hard. So hard, in fact, that his entire upper body bounced back up, and he knelt there, out on his knees. Oddly enough I remember this diary... probably because of the ridiculous name. Love the concept of restarting this.

I guess I just like including the ratings as a way of authenticating that I am actually doing this on TEW, not just making it up in my head

If you think it takes away from the presentation, I can absolutely leave them off going forward. If your concern is some of the low scores I was getting, I think it's an issue with my product settings, so I'll be looking into it before the next show.

Just to clarify Narf. Not sure if this is in he late games or not. But going back to EWR. If the NRG hit just right random companies preprogrammed into the game would open (Disney had one I believe as well.) Narf was ran by Pinky of Pinky and The Brain, originally a short on the 90s cartoon Animaniacs, before spinning off into it's own show. Narf was something that Pinky said a lot his catchphrase if you will.

All that said, this is an interesting concept. I would say the show was well put together from a format perspective, nice layout good writing. From a critical perspective it seemed like a really overbooked show though. For example.

Elimination Chamber (big crazy spot heavy/blood) match - for the mid card title

Regular 1 v 1 for the upper mid card title

Standard 1v1 cage match for the Main title

From a fans perspective, after the EC I am expecting something bigger and more exciting for each match after. It is why companies that due Ultraviolent Hardcore has diminishing returns because fans will always want more violence and you can only do so much.

I suggest building slowly to a big final match, with some smaller big matches in the middle and opener. (Open with a hot feud between mid cards or upper mid carders, have a upper mid or secondary main event feud in the middle with a gimmick match and then your main event huge match) This will create a better flow and natural progression.

Besides that look forward to see what you continue to do!

Thanks! I completely agree, and this show was somewhat unusual for me, because I was using the originally booked first show by New Vegas Wrestling in the original diary.

Okay, so I figured I'd explain the utter chaos that took place at Narf Poit Wrestling's Death March event!

New Vegas Wrestling intended to play this game in 2016, presumably in a mod set in that time period, which I couldn't find, so decided to do current day instead, starting with TheWho87's January 2019 RW mod.

Unfortunately, when I was editing the database to set it up right, I forgot to remove the injuries of Kevin Owens/Steen, (Erick) Rowan/Thoruf Marius and Sami Zayn/El Generico. Steen and Marius were scheduled to be involved in matches on the show, but weren't physically fit in time.

Fortunately, they were available for angles, so I was able to formulate a plan!

After getting through the Tag Title match and Brian Kendrick's open challenge, it was time to make some changes to the card. First, I needed to get Marius out of his Elimination Chamber match. I had the choice of five heels who weren't already scheduled to appear: Bo Rotunda (Bo Dallas), Joe Hennig (Curtis Axel), Roderick Strong, Ryan O'Connor (Konnor of The Ascension) and Victor Eöus (Viktor of The Ascension).

All of these options felt a bit underwhelming, and then the brainwave hit me: Tyler Black may have a match booked later, but it's not for a title, so slot him in. Heel Seth Rollins was the right kind of character to do this sort of thing, so I knew Black could pull it off.

So, it was settled! Black would take Marius' spot in the Chamber, but who would win? Well, the biggest star in the match was now Tyler Black, and I'd have to have him lose to Claudio Castagnoli later for believability's sake, so I decided to put the title on him!

The rest of the story, with him costing Jericho the Intercontinental Title match and in turn the US Title being put on the line against Claudio all just fell into place from there, which left me with just Kevin Steen to write off...

As there had been so much carnage on the show by this point, all I needed was a reason for Jericho to snap and suspend him, so I had him attack Claudio after his victory, and presto!

I'm not sure how interested everyone will have been in this insight into my thought processes for this show, but if anyone was wondering where this cluster... well, you know... of a show came from, then I hope this explains it a little! <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
