WEXXV: A Madman's Vision [CV2016]

December 2017

Matsumoto Hall, Tohoku, Japan

There wasn’t a seat available in the lecture hall. The first two rows had been reserved for the media, of which there was a mix of reporters, bloggers, and podcasters sitting closest to the stage. The rest were fans, men and a few women scattered throughout the room waiting for the press conference to start. Ryu Kajahara rarely hosted something as formal as this, so anticipation was high on what the reason was. WEXXV’s owner had not even addressed his purchases of SAISHO and BCG this way, so no one believed that could be happening again. But what could be bigger news than another buyout?

The crowd stirred as Kajahara and his entourage entered from the bottom of the room. He took the center chair while Munemitsu Senmatsu and Hiroshi sat on his immediate left. A few moments later, Blast Ikoma and Funakoshi entered and took the seats to Ryu’s right. Two championship belts were draped across the Funakoshi’s shoulder, the WEXXV Warrior’s Heart and the BCG World, and it was immediately obvious which was important to the man. Glancing sideways at Senmatsu, Funakoshi tossed the Warrior Heart belt on the floor in front of the table, drawing out a string of boos from the fans in the crowd, while carefully propping the World Championship in front of him. Senmatsu looked ready to dive over his boss to get his hands on the former BCG ace, but Kajahara stayed him with a hand on his shoulder. The fans ate it up.

That, that was the magic of Ryu Kajahara’s mind. Everything that he did was designed to further a story. His career had been an unconventional one, founded upon his acting gigs and politicking outside the sphere of BHOTWG and PGHW. Instead of trying to fit his enigmatic creativity in an already established promotion, he founded WEXXV, which quickly became the home of puroresu’s misfits and outcasts. Had it been an easy road? Not in the slightest. Bankruptcy had shadowed Kajahara from day one, but his passion never wavered. No, it only grew stronger, and spread into the men who couldn’t envision the Japanese wrestling circuit without WEXXV. Senmatsu and Morisue sat there this night, the best examples of men who shared Ryu’s vision. But there were others who were, at this very moment, training in the local gym the company rented. WEXXV’s next generation. They all had dreams of sitting at this same table ten years from now, but for that to happen, Ryu needed to make sure WEXXV was still around by then.

Hence the announcement to come.

The room fell silent when Ryu Kajahara finally stood up and moved to the podium. He took a deep breath before beginning. “What a year, friends. What a year.”

He gave the crowd a pained smile, showing his sixty years in that scarred visage. “Success achieved in bittersweet fashion. We in the Modern Japan Movement had tried to prevent it six years ago with our decision to shirk tradition. To many, what we did was controversial, perhaps even blasphemous, but I promise you that it wholly about preservation. We wanted to prove our fans the products they wanted to see, undiluted by a limiting business structure or by an oversaturated roster. We couldn’t all take the Burning Path and still respect ourselves.

Sadly, there are some things we couldn’t even predict. Last May, our homeland was ravaged by the Gods. Or Nature, or whatever other face you choose to put to tragedy. Our efforts shifted after that fateful day; it wasn’t about preservation any longer, because for some of us closure was simply inevitable. We knew that. We accepted that. We chose not fight it, because it wasn’t about us any longer; it was about bringing hope to you all, even up to the moment we took our final breaths.”

Ryu glanced down at Funakoshi beside him, nodding. “And this mentality wasn’t just shared among the MJM members, either. Despite our differences, it brings me great pride to provide Maeda’s version of puroresu a platform alongside my own. Mother Earth tried to wreck us, but we overcame even her. This country, my people, are stronger than ever!”

Scattered cheers around the room. The tsunami was always a difficult memory to navigate, but Ryu was one of the best equipped to do it. “My newest opponents, then, should pale in comparison to the odds we have overcome in the last year and a half. But, in fact, they frighten me even more. The Burning Path and the King’s Road. Both are dangerous currents to try and walk against. They undermine and emulate our achievements with promises of exclusivity and wealth, which are things I could never deny my children from pursuing. They deserve longevity more than I, an old man, but I cannot lie and say it doesn’t sting. Why, simply because we call our style ‘garbage,’ am I seen as much?

Now, I can simply sit idle and continue down the same course that has been set these last few years. My boys shed blood, sweat, and tears in an effort to showcase their fighting spirit, only to be scooped up when its ‘convenient’ or when they’re deemed ‘ready’ by men who have forgotten what it was like to work in a realm without guarantees, or by men who never even laced up a pair of boots in the first place. But let’s be honest, I’ve never been known for my conservatism, nor my willingness to roll over and expose my underbelly to the scavengers. Twenty-Seventeen’s finale, Blood Lions, was not just an ode to those who have fallen; no, it was a declaration of our place in this system. I intend to make WEXXV synonymous with the word excellence, and I am choosing to do so by not toeing the line, but by crossing it so far that no one else in this business will even dare to follow.”

Ryu scans the room one last time but taking a deep breath. “Which is why I’m announcing here tonight that come January 2018, WEXXV will be going full intergender, the first of its kind in puroresu.”

Stunned silence. And then, slowly at first but raising in volume, the clamoring. The outcry. Even some boos here and there. The cameras flashed and the reporters jostled over one another to catch Kajahara’s ear first, but the owner wasn’t done.

“I have no doubt that this decision will upset some of you, even turn you away from my company completely. I say this, from the bottom of my heart: good riddance. Take your traditional, backwards beliefs right out that door, because they are a thing of the past and I intend to make WEXXV the future. A future where our female compatriots are seen as equals in this sport to their male counterparts and deserving on their place at the very top. I won’t have time for any sexism or bigotry in the coming years as I make this dream a reality.”

Ryu gestures with one hands back towards the entrance, “Without further ado, I want to welcome to the stage WEXXV’s first signing to bring about this new era in WEXXV and in puroresu. The Patriots wouldn’t have her any longer, but I have no doubt she’ll fit in just fine.”

With the news still so fresh, they probably didn’t have time to even speculate who the inaugural member of the roster could even be, but the truth was no doubt still shocking. Alicia Strong wasn’t well known on this side of the world; only those who moved within 5SSW’s sphere of influence would know that she had been personally trained by the legendary Sensational Ogiwara. There were a handful of USPW fans in the building despite its unavailability in Japan, but for the most part, Strong was still rather unknown. A translator accompanied her and after greeting the crowd in passable Japanese, Alicia switched to English that was filtered through her aid.

“You know, if my father was still alive today,” she began, a small grin on her face, “he’d probably ask me if I had ‘lost my ever-loving mind?’ Then, he would’ve immediately followed it up by telling me how proud he was of me, unconditionally. He’d tell me ‘that’s why we’re named Strong, baby girl. Its in our blood.’ So that’s why when Ryu approached me about this wild scheme of his, I didn’t back down from the challenge. I’ve taken every opportunity these last ten years to empower the women I’ve met in this business, both inside those ropes and in the arenas around the world. More than that, I’ve tried to prove myself deserving of the spot I held to anyone who doubted it. So this right here will be no different, at least in my execution.

I hope it will make a world of difference for everyone else to follow, though. I appreciate the opportunity, Mister Ryu, and here’s to a wrestling world that won’t ever be the same again.”

Alicia and Ryu shook hands and then returned to the seats behind the table for a very heated half-hour of questioning from the wrestling media. Throughout it all, the fans slowly began to trickle out the back. Some were confused, others outright angry. And some thankfully remained, ready to see this new era through. They knew Ryu Kajahara was an undeniable madman, but when he put his mind to something, nothing could hold him back.

The press conference closed with Munemitsu Senmatsu and Alicia Strong standing opposite one another, fists raised, while the cameras shot away. It wasn’t until the news broke across the forums and the websites that anyone noticed Ryu hovering in the back of the shot, a wide grin across his face. A nickname was wildly accepted after this press conference, one that would no doubt follow him to his grave.

No one know, of course, how right that sentiment would truly be . . .

Location: Tohoku, Japan

In Attendance: 1,200 Fans

Opening Match

Singles Match

PyqBPom.jpgdbFER0R.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgDXVTHEx.jpg2lY0qfW.jpg

Matsumara & Okimoto vs Masufumi Torii & Ryobe Uno

The opening contest is one between four Young Lion talents. Despite Torii’s scrappiness and Uno’s schooling with the Golden Dojo, they were not able to overcome the natural chemistry of their opponents. Matsumara secured a rare pinfall victory with his Suicide Elbow Drop.

Winner: Matsumara & Okimoto

Rating: E-

First Blood Match

yG7cSC4.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgGRHpJpG.jpg

Bradford Peverell vs Henry Lee

Despite losing a loser-leaves-town match at last month’s Blood Lions event to Bull Wrecker, Henry Lee is allowed one final opportunity to compete in the company that he had called home since 2005. Sadly, he looked every bit of his forty-eight years and could barely keep up with Bradford, who finally busted him open eight minutes into the match with a brass-knuckles assisted left hook.

Winner: Bradford Peverell

Rating: E

Singles Match

VEdmh8m.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgUBElr2P.jpg

MUSCLE Serizawa vs Seison Uemura

Another Young Lions contest, which is a normal occurrence on this secondary show. On paper, MUSCLE is considered one of the best Young Lions competing in WEXXV, but he wasn’t able to overcome the WWA: Japan graduate, who put him away a move the fans had never seen before, the Delayed Penguin Jackhammer.

Winner: Seison Uemura

Rating: E

Barbed Wire Board Match

FLVWVmP.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgbDwoH1C.jpg

Dean McWade vs Kuniyoshi Kawamura

The former S.O.B stable member McWade is out here alone against the former MMA competitor Kawamura. The pair have themselves a wild brawl, making sure to hit a variety of spots into the boards scattered around ringside. Kuniyoshi finally puts away Dean with Repeated Knee Drives to cap off a strike exchange, securing his biggest win to date in WEXXV.

Winner: Kuniyoshi Kawamura

Naga-Mori vs Eikichi Itou & Motoyuki Miyake

A Young Lion pair are pitted against the six-time Blood Brothers champions in the main event. The precision striker Miyake lives up to his status as the premiere Young Lion in the company as he more than holds his own against his veteran opponents, but Nagahama and Morioka are able to isolate Itou in the final stretch. Morioka finally puts away Itou in twelve minutes with a stiff Backdrop Suplex while Mamoru keeps Miyake tied up in the corner to secure the victory to close the night.

Winner: Naga-Mori

The locker room walls drowned out most of the noise that was coming from ringside. Henry was appreciative of that; it allowed him to dwell in his frustration and anger in peace. His duffel bag rested on the wooden bench in front of him, maw opened wide while he purposefully tossed his gear and other belongings into it. The show hadn’t finished yet, so the veteran was hopeful that he could leave while no one was looking.

The familiar voice that spoke behind him stopped Henry’s intentions in their tracks. “I hope you know that I genuinely appreciate everything that you’ve done for this company.”

Henry turned to find Ryu leaning against the doorway, arms crossed. Lee barked a laugh, glancing around the room. “There are no cameras here, Ryu, so you don’t have to put on your usual show for me.”

Ryu glances into the hallway for a moment before stepping into the room, letting the door swing shut behind him. He stopped a few paces before Lee, drawing up to his full height. Henry wasn’t intimidated by his size disadvantage, but he didn’t draw any closer. “The hypocrisy. You go out there and lambaste Burning Hammer and Pride for hoarding talent and spitting them out when they’re old and used. A noble sentiment, if not for the fact that you’ve been doing that every month too. I’m not the first old hand who has walked out of this company pissed off by my treatment, and I know I won’t be the last.” Lee shakes his head in disgust. “Thirteen years, Ryu, and for what?”

Ryu shrugged. “We all know that there comes a day where we have to step aside for the next generation.”

Henry scoffed, waving the notion away with a hand. “Ryu Kajahara may have left the ring behind, but he’ll never stop hogging the spotlight. These kids of yours think it’ll be theirs one day, but I imagine you’ll spit them out too before its all said and done.” Lee snatched up his bag, moving past Kajahara towards the door. “In case it isn’t obvious, I qu—"

“You’re fired Henry,” Ryu interrupted, correcting the veteran. “Let’s not forget who crafts the narrative around here.” He pauses, turning to watch Lee leave. “Good luck with your future endeavors, friend.”

Lee exits the room without looking back, slamming the door behind him. Ryu glances around the room one more time before making his own exit, returning to the gorilla position to oversee the rest of the show.

And with that little blitz, the first secondary show has been posted as well as the card for the primary event. Predictions are welcome and encouraged. Birth by Blood will be very bare bones in terms of presentation while the bigger shows will get a little more description each month. Following each show, I hope to do 2-3 little posts involving significant news and little evolutions in the game world, both inside and out of WEXXV. The top predictor will get a chance to request an update on anything in the game world (individual, company, region). This system will be evaluated whenever WEXXV gets too bigger than two shows a month (which I obviously hope they do). Until then, hopefully this provide a nice balance between focus on the shows and also the progression of the larger game world (which is my personal favorite thing to see in long-term saves).

So with that all said, predict away!

General Comments:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A very unique and interesting take on WEXXV for sure!

Yeah, once I made the decision to go intergender, I felt that I was branching off far enough to try my hand at turning this save into a diary without conflicting with your own WEXXV one (which I highly recommend to anyone not already reading it). Its gonna take me a long time to get to the grades you’re already producing, but it should be a fun ride nevertheless

Women in WEXXV makes perfect sense based on FMW. Though I wonder who can work a death match in Japan.

Totally agree; I stumbled across a few of their women’s matches during my deathmatch watching days and thought it was wild what they were doing. C-Verse wise, I don’t think women deathmatch wrestling has ever been a thing, and I took a major hit to my popularity for changing my product so drastically, so I tried to reflect the negative outcry to the decision in my intro post. As for capable women, Strong is actually willing to do High rated matches, so her actual Hardcore skill is pretty weak; I’ll have to create match types that focus more on brawling for her. Beyond her, I’ve got a list of canon characters and some regens that fit the bill that’ll make their way over before the year is over. Trying not to bloat my roster, but I did want the deeper talent pool moving forward when more of my guys inevitably get poached by the big boys.

I've just read your history so far in the WEXXV thread, so am looking forward to this, for sure! :D

Heh, glad to know someone reads those. Thanks for linking it though and glad to have you aboard. For people who stumble across this thread down the road, checking out that link would clue you in on to how the first two years went for this save. You’ll kinda get a sense of why I made this drastic shift and get to experience a few of the earliest storylines in a very brief format.

Wow' date=' not one but [i']two[/i] concurrent dynasties of my favorite C-Verse promotion. I'm sure that's never happened before (and I've read them all). In fact, I don't think there's ever been to concurrent dynasties at all that feature deathmatches. Gonna be keeping an eye on this one.

Glad to have you aboard. This has been my first run with a deathmatch promotion on this game, so its been a learning and enjoyable experience.

Just as an update, I had to send in my laptop on for repairs. Trying to get my old dinosaur cranked up, but no guarantees that I'll be able to write for a little while. Haven't disappeared though

WEXXV Wrath of Jupiter

Week 2, January 2018

Location: Kinki, Japan

In Attendance: 2,000 Fans

The show opens at the commentator’s booth, as is in the norm on the company’s DVD productions. Tanosuke Joshuyo is handling the announcing duties for the evening with his colleague, Yosai Mizuno, is providing the color.

TJ: My goodness, you can cut the tension in the air with a knife, Mizuno. Welcome, Warrior Engine fans, to Wrath of Jupiter, and I gotta say, it certainly feels like Mister Kajahara has deeply angered a God after the press conference he conducted last week.

YM: I definitely would never have predicted it. Nor, I must say, do I approve. We’re one month removed from the year-ending event, Black Lions, where Funakoshi’s faction walked away with all the championships in tow. Well, at least the ones they’ve deemed important. The former BCG ace even forced Munemitsu Senmatsu to utter the words “I Quit.” He won their rubber match! And yet here we sit, awaiting further information on something else entirely. Something that, in my opinion, only adds to the credibility of The Pride’s claims that their puroresu is superior to the wild antics pulled forth from Ryu’s mind.

TJ: I’m gonna stop you there, Mizuno, before the fans label you as backwards. Let’s speak clearly here: the sensitive topic you’re avoiding speaking on is the announcement to go fully intergender moving forward in the WEXXV ring. A monumental shift in the puroresu landscape that has polarized our own fanbase. I for one am excited for the future that lies ahead, but I won’t deny that they’ll be a lot of pressure on the shoulders of the women who step into this ring, none more than Strong-san. In fact, we’ve talked long enough; its time for this elephant in the room to be addressed.

Ryu Kajahara’s theme hits the PA system, and after a few moments the owner of WEXXV steps through the curtain, accompanied by Alicia Strong. The pair approach the ring to mixed reaction, though Ryu’s aura had a way of drowning out the negativity. Strong hops straight onto the apron while Kajahara resorts to the stairs, and they both step through the ropes in tandem. Not one for theatrics, Ryu launches into his address.

RK: They called me a Madman. Addled by my age, knocked senile from all the chairs and light tubes. If only they could actually peek into the recesses of my mind and see, not the fogginess of forgetfulness, but the absolute clarity I have achieved. You fans, you men and women who have balked at normalcy for so long alongside me, now cry out for the reverence to tradition. You implore me to remember my roots, as if I owed any allegiance to the old ways, which never bothered to open its doors for me. I made my own tradition and this is nothing more than the continuation of that. Anyone who thinks otherwise just can’t see as far as I can.

The Pride’s theme interrupts the owner as Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, and Kadonomaro Kamisaka step onto the entrance ramp. The latter two have the WEXXV Blood Brothers championships draped on their shoulders, while their leader has only his BCG World Championship, despite being the WEXXV Warrior’s Heart champion as well. Ryu mutters ‘Case in point,’ into his microphone before Funakoshi finally lifts his own microphone to his lips.

F: I wouldn’t call you mad, Ryu. Just bitter. You were passed over for better men when the fighting spirit took ahold of you, and what did you do? Prove those who doubted by putting on the greatest display of puroresu that you could muster? No. No, instead you sold your soul to a demon who demanded blood sacrifices. At the time, we samurai allowed you to your revels because it never extended beyond fellow broken men and masochistic imperials. We even allowed it when you coerced young warriors like Munemitsu into your fold, because puroresu wasn’t losing much in the process. Had you been satisfied in the crumbs from our plates, we probably would’ve never stepped foot into your insignificant kingdom. But you got greedy, pulling in the next generation left and right with the empty promises of glory and power. Red for gold, you said. Well I say, no more.

The crowd pops at the sound of Munemitsu Senmatsu’s theme, but WEXXV’s prodigy barely makes it onto the ramp, fists clenched, and eyes focused on The Pride, before Ryu Kajahara steps in. The bulk of the Young Lions swarm from ringside to stand between the four men, preventing a brawl from breaking out. Ryu glances at Alicia, who just nods.

RK: Words, Funakoshi, are all you can really use against me. You were taught to always respect your elders, boy, so don’t break from the routine now. I put you opposite Senmatsu and Hiroshi tonight. Next month, I might put you against someone bigger. We’ll see who wavers first. As for you, Kamisaka the always stoic, you’re without a match tonight. So is Miss Strong here beside me. Sounds like a perfect pairing to me.

Ringside empties in the opposite order that it was populated, each group breaking off to prepare for their respective fights for the evening. The referee for the evening, Akikazu Miyagi, replaces them in preparation for the first match.

Eiichi Umehara & The Gremlin vs Gidayu Katou & Katoh Freak

Two odd-ball teams clash in the evening’s opener. Gidayu Katou struggles to make much sense of his young lion partner Katoh Freak, fresh from his excursion to Canada, and the team barely muster a defense against their more experienced opponents. Its obvious that Eiichi Umehara and The Gremlin are more comfortable as opponents, but they bring it together well enough to handedly take this one. Umehara is the one to secure the pinfall in this one with a Shoulder-Breaker.

Winner: Eiichi Umehara and The Gremlin

Rating: E+

Light Tube Match

Bull Wrecker vs Hatemonger

In the second match of the evening, the former S.O.B. member Bull Wrecker clashes with one-half of The Apocalypse tag team, Hatemonger. It’s a chaotic fair with ample blood spilt by both men, but Wrecker largely dominates in the second half of the match, ultimately putting the Australian away with the Pancake Maker onto a stack of light tubes. A very solid performance that would no doubt put him in the back of the bosses mind as he determines opponents for Morisue’s Deathmatch championship.

Winner: Bull Wrecker

Rating: E+

Singles Match

iWdwclE.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgRD0O5Kp.jpg

Kyuichi Matsumoto vs Musashi

The ring is cleared up in quick fashion and Musashi is out next in a contest with the hard-hitting young lion Kyuichi Matsumoto. Despite the size disadvantage, the EXODUS star is able to control the match for the most part, putting on a fine display of puroresu despite the company’s distaste for it. It came to no one’s surprise when the brawler put Matsumoto away.

Winner: Musashi

Rating: E

A camera follows Musashi up the ramp and through the curtain, where Blast Ikoma and Kadonomaro Kamisaka are waiting for him. Blast commends Musashi on the performance while Kado stares blankly at him, and promises the man that even though he had never wrestled for Maeda-san, there was still a place for him in The Pride. Musashi doesn’t give an immediate answer, and Blast assures him that after the display to come later in the night, there wouldn’t be any doubt left. Kado’s theme hits a moment later, signaling that his match was on next.

Singles Match

Alicia Strong vs Kadonomaro Kamisaka

Alicia Strong made her WEXXV debut next against the emotionless member of The Pride, who received a mouthful from fans at ringside that hadn’t forgotten when the man had jumped ship to GCG like a lot of the BCG roster and didn’t want him to forget either. The two put on a match that’s a cut above everything that had been seen up to that point, mixing brawling, technical exchanges, and even a bit of high flying together in an even affair. The fans got behind Strong somewhat by the end of the match, but it was Kamisaka who would secure the victory with a Stump Piledriver. The added leverage on the ropes while Miyagi counted was just done to rile the fans.

Winner: Kadonomaro Kamisaka

Rating: D

The show transitions backstage to an interview before the main event, courtesy of Munemitsu Senmatsu and Hiroshi Morisue. Hiroshi was too preoccupied with stuffing brass knuckles and other weapons into the pockets of his jacket and pants to talk, so Senmatsu handle that. He handled it well, in fact.

MS: Funakoshi vehemently defends this so-called ‘warrior’s way’ of his like a soldier planning one last attack on civilians who weren’t even a part of the war. Black Canvas is dead. Golden Canvas is graying around the mane. The Roaring Lion tradition is on its last legs these days, and these men are trying to tear down an innocent house along with it. Its spiteful, I have to say, and downright pathetic. Hiroshi and I, we haven’t seen eye-to-eye with Ryu Kajahara lately, but we haven’t forgotten the opportunities the old man has given us. We won’t stand idly by and watch The Pride try to break this place, because at the end of the day, we helped build it to. In fact, I’d say it even sits on our shoulders. Guess that’s why we’re called Foundation XXV.

The pair stalk off-camera as Morisue’s theme sounds off, signaling the start of the Main Event.

Foundation XXV vs The Pride

While there weren’t any weapons involved, save for the ones Morisue had carried in on his person, this match proved to be heavy hitting brawl. It was clear from the get-go that these four men were working magic. Senmatsu and Morisue’s natural chemistry played a big role in the latter half of the match, as the brawl returned to the ring after spilling out into the crowd. It ultimately came down to Ikoma and Senmatsu exchanging blows in the center of the ring. Blast even drew blood with a clubbing forearm across the face of the ace, but that only enraged Senmatsu, who leveled Ikoma with a Super Smash Lariat that secured Foundation XXV the victory in a match that was, without a doubt, one of the best seen yet in the last few years.

Winner: Foundation XXV

Backstage Following Wrath of Jupiter

Whenever Ryu wasn’t cutting a promo in the ring, he maintained his post in the gorilla position watching the show progress via the monitors and by peeking through the curtain. It was tiring at times, being the only agent working the show. He had let Motoichi Arikada as a cut down costs two years ago, and hadn’t really tried to sign anyone since then. He had sent feelers out to DARK Eagle at one point, but the merger with BCG had set the company back two hundred thousand dollars, so Ryu pulled out. Truth be told, he enjoyed being in complete control; that was why he never really hired a booker to share the load. By being there, on top of it all times, he could see everything there was to see, good and bad.

And if it was bad, he hoped he could nip in the bud immediately.

“You asked for me, Mister Kajahara,” Kadonomaro Kamisaka said, drawing up beside the boss. Blank face as always. It wasn’t really an act in the ring, despite what some people thought. The man just had never focused his training on those particular muscles. Ryu was fine with that, given that this wasn’t really a smiling method.

Ryu glanced down at the monitor. The Pride were making their way up the ramp, leaving Hiroshi and Munemitsu Senmatsu to send the fans home happy. He needed to be quick. “Was Funakoshi drinking again?”

For a moment, Ryu thought the younger man wasn’t going to answer. Kado shrugged. “He’s always drinking, sir. Maeda-san always let him get away with it.”

“Well I’m not Maeda-san” Kajahara replied, waving the worker away. Unlike that old man, I’m actually still in business. The boss barely let Funakoshi walk through the curtain before he put him in on blast in from of his stablemates. “I’m fining you, kid. I don’t care for drunks endangering my boys.” It was jarring to head the owner of a deathmatch promotion talk about endangerment, but no one bothered to comment on it.

Funakoshi offered a grin, nodding in response. “I hear ya boss.” He kept going, tailed by Blast and Kado, as they headed back to the locker room. Ryu let him go, annoyed as he was. Senmatsu and Morisue were on their way up the ramp, and he wanted to be the first person they send once they hit backstage. His sons, in split blood if not shared heritage.

Alicia Strong had showered and change into her civilian clothes, but she waited for the show to finish like her father had taught her. It was a matter of respect to the men who went on after you, because at they end of the day, they were earning you that paycheck. That was a notion not every wrestler could stomach, being less impactful, less of a draw to the crowds. Maybe when she was younger, it was hard for her too. Alicia had learned, though, and appreciated it now. More so, she hoped to be closing the show like Munemitsu was doing right now, and it would be hypocritical to want others to do what she herself was not willing to do.

“No where to be?” a voice said behind her. Alicia turned to find Waldo Odlaw, better known as The Gremlin, standing there with his gym bag tossed over his shoulder. He had worked the opener, but had stuck around too, swapping stories and jokes with the young lions backstage. He flashed Alicia a grin, listening to the roar of the crowd through the walls. “Not that I blame you for lingering. I love the sound of it too.”

“Just paying my dues, then back to the hotel. Got an early flight in the morning.”

“That’s fair,” Waldo replied, shrugging his shoulders. “I was going to invite you this local ramen shop I’m a big fan of. Best udon in the city, in my opinion.” The man turned to make his exit.

“Who else is going?” Alicia asked, shouldering her bag as well.

“No one,” Waldo replied, flashing her another grin. “I only share my secrets with the people I like.” He pushed through the door, but lingered, holding it open for Strong. “A ride to the hotel, at least?”

Alicia Strong glanced the man up and down and returned the smile. “Actually, I think I’ll take you up on the first offer. Your treat.”

Waldo smiled again. Unlike Kado, he was full of them.

Elsewhere in January 2018

USA

  • Due to declining performances in recent years, Total Championship Wrestling has removed Kyle Rhodes from the position of CEO and installed former CGC legend Ed Monton in his place. A head booker had yet to be named by the end of the month.
  • In similar negative news, New York City Wrestling has also fallen in size, now classified as Small by online journalists. While they aren’t performing terribly—Empire Champion Man Mountain Cahill is consistently putting on the best match in the Main Event month to month—they are struggling to outperform RIPW and MAW.
  • One gem from NYCW Rush Hour this past month was the Hall of Fame Induction of Honest Frank, who retired in December. His thirty year career was conducted almost entirely in the Tri-State region, first in the East Coast Wars with XFW and DAVE, then splitting them between PSW and NYCW.
  • FREEDOM Caribbean Wrestling hired Flying Jimmy Foxx, former CZCW and TCW competitor. Jimmy, known outside the ring as James Fosworth, has publicly stated that he would love to finish out his career here under the guidance of Nathan Coleman, who has been booking for Puerto Rican Power’s company since Handsome Stranger’s untimely passing last summer.
  • Syd Collier wins the Rip Chord Invitational for the second time, continuing his hot streak from 2017 into the new year. After entering ’17 a dual Mid Atlantic and Tag Team Champion, he proceeded to win both the Rip Chord Invitational and the Sam Keith Classic. Experts predict this year will be no different for the homegrown talent
  • Joey Morgan defeated Eric Eisen at When Hell Freezes Over to win the SWF World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Eric successfully defended it five times before this change.

Canada

  • No major news of importance this month.

Mexico

  • South of the Border Pro Wrestling has expended their broadcasting reach in North America by signing a deal with America-Sports-1. This will no doubt continue to aid them in their domination of the Western Hempishere.
  • La Sombra Jr has reported to SOTBPW, joining fellow OLLIE signees Marco Flores and Amo del Gato who reported in December as Pablo Rodriguez continues to pilfer their smaller competitors for their best employees.

Britain

  • 21st Century Wrestling expand their reach in Europe after signing a new deal to host their television show and events with Euro Cable Sports 1. Given that they have no competition in this neck of the woods, they’ll only continue to rise in prominence.

Japan

  • In a shocking move that will no doubt reshape the Japanese landscape, Burning Hammer has fired Tetsuzan Kaneko from his position as CEO and reinstated Kaneie Komine, who has sworn to restore the company to its former glories from 2006, a very obvious reference to his firing twelve years ago. Mito Miwa, former PGHW legend and SAISHO owner, was brought into to handle the booking, much to the chagrin of several members in the Modern Japan Movement.
  • World Level Wrestling signed William Hayes away from PGHW, who had been a mainstay with the company for over a decade. Koji Kojima and Koki Ishibashi have largely avoided bidding on talent from the Big Two, instead relying on homegrown talent and freelancers, but perhaps this marks a shift in their strategy moving forward.
  • Commander Kawagishi defeated Masao Tsubouchi for the EXODUS Junior Heavyweight Championship at the company's Evil That Men Do event, his first reign with the belt. Already the Tag Team Champions alongside Shimpei Hirose, Kawagishi has quickly risen to the top of the card in recent years.

Europe

  • No major news of importance this month

Australia

  • Former RAW competitor Quiz Master has recently resurfaced in New Zealand’s ZEN: Art of Wrestling promotion this past month. He challenged for Devilfish’s ZEN Master Championship (which he ultimately lost) in what critics declared as the company’s best match since the beginning of 2016. Many expect Master will prove even more valuable in his new home than during his time competing on the A.S.N Network.

Author's Note: This is the basic template moving forward at the end of each month, touching on proceedings around the world that I personally found significant in some way. In an effort to not get bogged down in every single signing or title change, primary focus will be placed on the Cult+ level companies, with sparing notes here and there on all the other companies. With that said, I will answer any and all questions regarding workers, companies, and anything else that you might find nice to know.

Weird Waldo and Alicia Strong is a relationship I never could have conceived, so the AI has that going for it. It'd be like Charlotte Flair and Joey Janella.

Edit: Just noticed the bit about Funakoshi having a drinking problem. Oddly enough, I think that's characterization and development that would make him attractive to use in BCG.

Yeah, this new relationship through me for a loop, but in a good way. I love seeing how wacky the AI can get with it sometimes, and this has been one of the best examples for me personally.

Funakoshi's habit has been less pleasant thus far. He hasn't shown up too drunk to work yet, but he has been drunk the last two months during the match, which pisses people off. Dude's still one of the better performers night to night, so I've only fined him thus far, hoping that'll he'll get the message soon enough. I can only imagine what it would feel like in the BCG scenario where your Ace was constantly doing it.

Well, it'd be great because it'd give you more of an incentive to reform him, or cultivate a new star. Otherwise you can basically rely on Funakoshi to hold your main event together for the two years you need to turn young lions into main evneters when you get raided by BHOTWG and GCG. :p

Week 1, February 2018

Location: Tohoku, Japan

Attendance: 1,200 Fans

Opening Match

Singles Match

DXVTHEx.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgVEdmh8m.jpg

Masufumi Torii vs MUSCLE Serizawa

The opening contest is a 2016 rematch between a pair of Young Lions looking to gain traction in the ever-slippery undercard. MUSCLE uses his superior strength to control most of the match, but Torii puts his scrappiness on display to score a few near falls. After about eight minutes, Serizawa is able to put his opponent down with a MUSCLE Lariat, putting him up 2-0 in their singles against Torii

Winner: MUSCLE Serizawa

Barbed Wire Board Match

Kimi Kawano vs Massacre

There has been an unspoken policy in WEXXV in recent years to spare the Young Lions from the more dangerous matches, but Kimi Kawano was a proven exception again this month. He and Massacre put on a chaotic match that, while not critically good, was enough to rile the bloodthirsty fans up. For a brief moment, the crowd even believed Kawano would secure his first win over a veteran after nailing his signature Double Arm DDT onto a chair-propped board, but Massacre was able to kick out and seize control again. A few minutes later, the Samoan nails a rolling cannonball into Kawano seated in the corner, pinning the Lion between steel and three hundred pounds of flesh.

Winner: Massacre

Hustle Muvva & Kuniyoshi Kawamura vs Ryobe Uno & Seison Uemura

A standard tag team match testing the two pairings’ ability to work with one another. Kawamura’s MMA training meshed well-enough with Hustle’s street scrapping to earn them the victory in this pretty one-sided affair. Kawamura secures the victory with Repeated Knee Drives to Uno, shouting the phrase “I . . . WANT . . . Morisue,” between each strike. With his string of recent defenses, its likely that the competitor would get his wish before too long.

Winner: Muvva & Kawamura

Thumbtacks Deathmatch

ZnzxB88.jpgS5L4bv2.jpgbqSdE0N.jpg

Two veterans battle it out in a wild and violent brawl that spent ample time on the outside before finally moving into the ring. There was little on the line here besides bragging rights, and Battle was finally able to edge the win out after eleven minutes with the Sakata Twist. The WEXXV loyalist is getting up there in age, but tonight he showed that he could still hold his own in the ring.

Winner: Battle Sakata

Blood Elemental vs Mamoru Nagahama

Mamoru left his long-time partner backstage as he stepped into the ring against one of WEXXV’s rising Young Lions. Blood Elemental, who had been selected as the fourth man who wear the Elemental mask after his graduation from the Pride Dojo in 2017, struggles early on against his veteran opponent, but a timely pele kick shifted the momentum into his favor. Blood wowed the fans with a series of high flying and high impact moves, only to miscalculate a dive and fall into Nagahama’s clutches. Mamoru transitions into his guillotine and the Young Lion is forced to tap out after a few moments of frantic struggling.

That's the hope, but I'd say I'd be mighty lucky to keep Funakoshi for two years before he gets poached. The Cult+ companies have enjoyed taking my well-built superstars (Sayeed Ali, Frantic Ali, Tatsukichi, etc) and they don't usually give me years to prepare for it. I had been banking on Funa's loyalty to BCG transferring to me when I bought them out, but sadly it doesn't seem to work that way.

The show opens to replays of last month’s main event while the broadcast team for the evening, Tanosuke Joshuyo and Yosai Mizuno, provide voice overs.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>TJ:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> Welcome, fans, to Orion’s Hunt. Last month we were blessed with a match that was one of the best in recent memory. Foundation XXV battled The Pride in a war that had more than bragging rights at stake. Munemitsu Senmatsu is looking to earn another opportunity at Funakoshi’s championships, and his pinfall over the Lion’s stablemate was a good step in the direction. Perhaps a second victory tonight in non-title action, which would put the pair at two and two in singles contests, would force Ryu Kajahara to make their fifth contest for the gold again.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>YM:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> That’s if he doesn’t outright demand the match tonight to be made into a title match. As a former six-time holder of the Warrior’s Heart Championship, I’d argue he’s well within his rights to compete for it anytime that he wanted. Its synonymous with him at this point, Tano.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Senmatsu’s theme interrupts the voice over, bringing the show to the present as The Hammer steps out onto the stage to a roaring reception. He makes his way to the ring purposefully, with a microphone in hand, and quickly climbs into the ring. Wasting no time, he holds the microphone to his lips, staring back at the entrance ramp.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>MS:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> Ryu, why don’t you come join me for a second. I’ll even start the conversation while you work your battered body out of your throne backstage. It’s a pretty simple request, really: make my match tonight a championship bout. For the last two years, I’ve fielded challenger after challenger who had no stake at that championship without complaint. I’ve beaten the best you could find, month after month, because that’s what a champion does. There isn’t a man </span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><em>alive</em></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> who better embodies the spirit of the Warrior’s Heart, and these fans here would rather this temple </span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><em>burn down</em></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> than have to watch a man like Funakoshi spit on our history.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Ryu Kajahara’s theme plays over the PA system, but its Funakoshi who steps out onto the ramp. Ryu Kajahara does follow, though, pointedly separate from the BCG ace. The BCG World Championship is draped over the man’s shoulder while he held the Warrior’s Heart by a strap in one hand. Flashing a smug grin, Funakoshi drops the latter belt, kicking it with a foot down the ramp a ways as the fans rain down the jeers and boos.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>F:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> If all you wanted, Munemitsu, was that dinky old thing, you could’ve have come straight to me. I would’ve let you carry it for me to all of my matches, make sure no one tries to steal it while I’m working in your old spot on the card. It means nothing to me, not when compared to this beauty here on my shoulder. With that said, you’re wrong to think you deserve opportunities whenever the whim takes you. I’ve beaten you twice now, made you say “I Quit” in front of thousands. There won’t be a third.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Ryu Kajahara walks past the champion towards the Warrior’s Heart, picking it up off the ground and holding it up to stare at. He glances at Senmatsu first and then Funakoshi before finally turning to address the crowd.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>RK:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> Actually, I think he will get a third opportunity. Tonight. For no other reason than to remind everyone that’s there only one person who runs this F****n company. And I think I’ll even tack on deadman’s token you’re carrying as well, Funakoshi, for a little added motivation.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

The crowd pops as Kajahara returns back up the ramp, handing the championship back to Funakoshi on his way backstage. The two competitors stare each other down before making separate exits as well to empty the ring for the start of the show.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Bradford Peverell & Musashi vs Eikichi Itou & Katoh Freak</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

A standard tag team match between veterans and young lions to open the show. Peverell and Musashi spend much of their time in the ring showcasing their martial arts inspired offense at the expense of Itou and Freak, who could muster little in way of a response. It was Peverell who ultimately scored the pinfall after knocking Freak senseless with his Dream Left Hook, a move that is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous strikes in the company.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

The show cuts backstage where Doug Peak and Gareth Wayne are lingering, watching various members of the roster mingle in the hallways. Alicia Strong walks through the frame, drawing a vehement reaction from the duo when he she moves out of earshot. Gareth spits on the floor as he watches the woman move around off-camera. They complain about how far this company has fallen between themselves, stating that there was no chance whatsoever that these little girls could ever compete with the likes of them.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Madman Boone enters the frame after that, overhearing the conversation. He offers to break Strong later tonight in an attempt to make peace with the duo, given to the role he played last year in the S.O.B.s civil war. Wayne says he’s welcome to try, but if he fails, he best follow Henry Lee’s example and make a swift exit from the company. For his health, Peak elaborated with a vicious grin on his face. Boone swears that it’ll get done and makes his exit, as the show cuts back to ringside</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Eiichi and Anzai square up in a high intensity match, each man pushing to achieve their own agendas in this match. Umehara is only just recovering from the attacks last year by Kajahara’s Four Horsemen, who had deemed him as Shorned, and he’s looking to prove that he’s still a dangerous competitor even if he’s not willing to go to the same violent lengths to achieve it. Anzai, on the other hand, is a young lion known primarily as a tag team competitor looking to prove himself as a singles star as well. Eiichi spends the first half of the match acting as the base as Anzai flies from corner to post and even over the ropes to the outside. The young lion crashes and burns in the sixth minute, and from there Umehara is in complete control, methodically wearing Anzai down until he’s finally busted open from a DDT on the ring steps.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Alicia Strong vs Madman Boone</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Strong and Boone follow that up immediately with a more technically sound brawl that better connects with the crowd. Boone tries to bully his smaller opponent, but Alicia was able to seize the reigns with her grappling ability, ripping the momentum away from the Madman whenever it was shifting in his favor. Alicia even introduces a chair into the match, cracking it across Boone’s back at one point. Alicia was finally able to lock in the Strong Arm Tactics in the tenth minute to earn her first victory in a WEXXV ring.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Strong makes a quick exit, leaving Boone to find his feet and make his way backstage. He’s met halfway by Peak and Wayne, who launch an assault on the battered man for failing them. Wayne sets a table up while Doug pulls Boone into a powerbomb position. Lifting the man up and over, Peak slams him through the wood and onto the concrete. The duo leave the man there in the entrance ramp as they climb into the ring, and The Pride members even make their entrance as well before medical staff are finally able to get the Madman backstage for further attention.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

The Pride [blast Ikoma & Kadonomaro Kamisaka] © vs The Last S.O.B.s [Doug Peak & Gareth Wayne]</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Despite having no prior conflict with one another prior to this match tonight, these four men quickly begin a brawl once the bell rings that spills out to ringside almost immediately. A basic story is told throughout between the traditionalist champions and their disrespectful gaijin opponents, but the content was more than vicious enough to excite the crowd. It was looking like Ikoma and Kamisaka were on their way to retain, until Peak spears Kamisaka off the apron through the announcer’s table in a last-ditch effort to shift the tide. Wayne overwhelms Ikoma after that with his arsenal of underhanded tactics, ultimately securing the pinfall after a very stiff looking Shoulder Breaker.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>Winners:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> The Last S.O.B.s </span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>(TITLE CHANGE)</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Munemitsu makes his entrance immediately after the ringside clears out, eager to bring the fight to his rival without any further distractions. Funakoshi takes his time in his own entrance as he plays soccer with the Warrior’s Heart championship, kicking it down the ramp and around the ring to the broadcasting table. He’s much gentler with the BCG World Championship, which he gives to referee Akikazu Miyagi to hold up for the crowd to see prior to the match. The two men stare each other down, but before the match can begin, Ryu Kajahara’s theme hits and the owner steps through the entrance ramp, microphone in hand.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>RK:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> Before we go any further, I want to make something known. Earlier this month, I was informed of an insurrection brewing right here in WEXXV, one designed to embarrass and shame me for the generosity I showed to a handful of refugees. Did you think I wouldn’t find out, Funakoshi? That I wouldn’t learn that you and Blast were planning on walking out of my company tonight with </span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><em>my</em></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> championships. By all means, you’re both welcome to go be a cog in the wheel, but you’ll be showing up there empty handed. One half of the problem has already been taken care of, but there’s still you, kid. Maybe Munemitsu is the man to do it, but I can’t deny he’s failed twice now. Had to spend a few of my political favors to pull this one off, but I got a feeling its going to pay off in the end.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

The curtains part as an absolutely massive man steps onto the entrance ramp beside Kajahara. Towering over the owner, the four-hundred-pound monster makes his slow walk to the ring while Funakoshi and Senmatsu can only stare in shock. There hadn’t been anyone quite like this man in WEXXV before.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Funakoshi © vs Kiyonobu Otani vs Munemitsu Senmatsu</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

No one moves in the first thirty seconds of the match as the champion and Senmatsu try and size up their new adversary. The Hammer finally lunges forward, aiming to take Otani out with a Super Smash Lariat. Otani doesn’t even budge.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

That sets the tone for the rest of the match as Funakoshi and Senmatsu try, both individually and together, to overwhelm the giant to little avail. Otani is able to dominate much of the match, but he is never able to capitalize given the chaotic nature of having two opponents. He nearly steals the win after crushing Funakoshi with a ring-shaking legdrop, but Senmatsu breaks the count at two and three-fourths.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

Senmatsu wails down on the seated giant long enough for Funakoshi to recover and find his feet, but the BCG ace can do little more than stand there and eat a massive lariat from Senmatsu. Munemitsu dives into the cover and Otani can’t find his feet fast enough to break up the pinfall as Senmatsu wins the Warrior’s Heart for a seventh time.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

</span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>Winner:</strong></span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> Munemitsu Senmatsu </span><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><strong>(TITLE CHANGE)</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

The show closes with Senmatsu bailing out of the ring and scooping up his two championships while Kajahara joins the giant in the ring. Ryu’s handpicked warrior may not have won, but the owner knows he’s got The Hammer on his backfoot now. Otani gives Funakoshi a second leg drop at Ryu’s request, and then the show fades to black.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;">

More seriously, that's epic stuff. I absolutely love the sumo influence and strain of recruits in Japanese wrestling, so that is an incredible addition to make. You picking up ex-amateurs in the Sumo World Championships is a great idea that I wish some of the IRL companies like AJPW and NOAH might consider, but what can you do? </p><p> </p><p>

That said, I'm gonna need his pop and stats to add him into my database. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Epic and also the most fortunate thing that could've happened at this point in the save. I had just peaked behind the curtain in January in search of characters that would size up to giant, and none of them could work in Japan at the moment. So to have a Day-One giant spawn in a month later in my region was the greatest of gifts the RNG could possibly give me. Otani started at C+ Popularity across the entirety of Japan, making him the most popular active wrestler on the roster. Unfortunately he did spawn in as a Young Lion, which is why he didn't win in his debut, and I didn't gain loyalty when I signed him. The one upside is that BHOTWG and PGHW probably won't sign him until he loses the young lion status, so I've got that working in my favor. He's definitely got a potential to be an Akebono in AJPW type character more so than a Ryota Hama in BJW.

The screenshots below are his bio, skills, and popularity at the point in the present point of my save, so it isn't completely accurate to him at day one. Being a pop > perf company really makes this character pop month to month; Senmatsu is the only person who usually outperforms him on each show. His pic is one of the unused Asian males that comes with the default database

Well here's the thing I want you to consider: Mammoth Sasaki.

He's a name I've brought up recently on the forums, but in this case he fits you as well. Mammoth was an ex-sumo with a strong amateur credibility, who was such an FMW mark that he joined the company instead of continuing on with Sumo. He was loyal to the brand, company and ideals, going from FMW to WEW to APACHE to FREEDOMS. He is (in my opinion) the equivalent of a Daisuke Sekimoto, only with a lot less luck in getting onto a bigger stage.

Now, there's been other sumos in hardcore wrestling like Daikokubo Benkei, but Kiyonobu Otani screams Mammoth Sasaki to me. A young, talented heavyweight for you to really sink your teeth into, who can really have a taste for the WEXXV ideal. I know that this isn't quite kosher with some people, but as someone who prefers creating lore over adhering to numbers and decisions, he's the kind of guy (depending on his personality which I don't think you've shown) that I'd edit loyalty in.

I mean, sure his Star Quality, Sex Appeal and Menace aren't exactly high, but few sumos carry all three of those in abundance. :p

Believe me, its been a month to month debate since I signed this guy to edit in loyalty. Without giving an exact date, I will say that I still have him at the present point in my save, which has been great for the story I'm telling and for my ratings. The main reason I'm leaning against forcing loyalty is I think it'll make for a better narrative if he were to get poached down the road. My goal is to go bigger than regional and then, over time, hopefully steal back my guys, and this guy would be a major steal in the story. I gave him his first break, let him go earn money elsewhere while I grow bigger, and then bring him back when I can sign exclusive contracts.

But yeah, who knows. I'm definitely going to milk this guy for as long as I can, no matter where he ends up down the road
