CGC 2019: The Show Must Go On

Cage Match: Jack DeColt vs ???????????

DeColt rules... and Jack vs. Blockbuster storyline wouldn´t go anywhere if Jack loses here.

Diablo DeVille vs Bobby Thomas

Bobby needs to win here if he wants to look as a threat to Zeus.

Express Delivery vs Greaser & Dice Elderberry

Yes, really happy to see Dirty White Boys back together. Hard to say if their teamwork would still be on the level that they would need against Express Delivery but I go with them anyway.

Stevie Grayson vs Hustle King

Grayson is doing more and I assume he would be more popular as well.

Sunday Week 1 November 2019

London, Ontario (5,400)

  • JACK DECOLT BEATS SAYEED ALI in a Cage Match (16:51) while Blockbuster joins commentary to watch the two beat the hell out of each other. Sayeed does some damage, but falls to the DeColt Legacy. B
  • Bobby Thomas walks into a horror movie. Flickering lights. Crew members beaten and bloodied as Diablo DeVille feeds off of their suffering. Bobby's ready to exorcise the demon once and for all, but Stevie Grayson steps in to scold them both. Everyoneshouldbefriendsandlearnfromeachother. He forbids Diablo from harming any more innocent people. C-
  • HUSTLE KING BEATS STEVIE GRAYSON (4:46) after being entirely too trusting and falling for a Hustler's Headbutt. D After the match, Gnaw attacks both in a potion fueled frenzy, destroying them as Joey Poison explains that they have no chance of winning the Faith Invitational Tournament. He's always had a soft spot for Faith, so he's doing her a favour by letting her manage Gnaw as the ferocious feline dominates CGC. Ian Identity disagrees. He vows to find out Gnaw's weakness, and Skip sneaks in from the crowd to try to unmask the new monster. Security swarm in as a fight breaks out between the two teams. C
  • Don't call it a reunion. Dice Elderberry doesn't like Greaser, and Greaser doesn't like Elderberry, but they both hate Express Delivery, so they're going to kick their asses. D+
  • EXPRESS DELIVERY BEAT GREASER & DICE ELDERBERRY (12:09). The former DWB are still capable of the old double teams, but the trust just isn't there. Greaser keeps waiting to be stabbed in the back and ends up being hit with a First Class Package. C
  • Meanwhile, the badly disguised Woolabonga Bogans are undercover at the Express Delivery depot to learn the art of packing boxes. They're surprised to learn the Drones aren't all bad. #5 has hopes and dreams. #4 hates the job but has a family to support. #2 seems to know exactly who they are but is too burned out to care. Only #7 is a jerk, tattling and telling lies about his co-workers to get ahead. The Bogans learn a lot of useful tips. C
  • Diablo DeVille is thrilled to finally be unleashed. Nothing tastes quite like the suffering of Bobby Thomas. Getting to feed tonight almost makes up for having to follow the orders of a naive God and his idiot best friend. C
  • BOBBY THOMAS BEATS DIABLO DeVILLE (18:07) after trying to kill each other with every move under the sun. (16:33) Diablo doesn't get the suffering he was hoping for, instead facing a serious, all-business, methodical attack on the knee C+

FINAL RATING C+ (1.20 on Maple Leaf Sports)

K-Squared's contract expired, and I let him go. I love the guy, but he never gained any traction. Hopefully the TV exposure helps him get indy work, and I imagine that in 6 months I'd have something new for him. Also, The Great Trickerion broke his tail bone. Maybe Identity can find out what hospital he's staying at. The guy probably knows something helpful.

This Friday (likely tomorrow morning... if the server's still up) it's CGC Apocalypse!

I hope Bobby would win but sadly my head says Zeus is going to retain here.

Going Postal Match for CGC Tag Titles: Express Delivery vs Woolabonga Bogans ©

Bogans just got the belts so they ain´t dropping them yet

Blockbuster vs Jack DeColt

Could see Blockbuster winning if you want to build him up even more but thinking Jack will take this one with Blockbuster already seeing himself so highly that he complains if not winning 30-man rumble.

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Hugh DeArrrske & Hustle King vs Diablo & Stevie

King and DeArrske feels like the weakest team out from the four on semi-finals, though on the same note, this could well be their break-out performance if they do well and they the one team that I could see I could see benefiting most from Faith. That said, I´m going with more established stars here.

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Joey Poison & Gnaw vs Ian Identity & Skip Beau

Poison is basically Gnaw´s manager so I don´t see Faith doing much there. Not entirely sure why Ian would want Faith as manager after dropping Jenny either but that seems to be were the story is going at the moment.

... and who will answer Dan DaLay's open challenge?

No idea, lets say Greaser since he´s first face that comes to my mind who ain´t in the show already.

Maybe Bobby wins but I want Zeus to be the champ come the end of the diary

Going Postal Match for CGC Tag Titles: Express Delivery vs Woolabonga Bogans ©

They just won it, seems right to let them retain

Blockbuster vs Jack DeColt

Buster gets the big win to signify his new spot as a top star in the company

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Hugh DeArrrske & Hustle King vs Diablo & Stevie

It makes sense given...

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Joey Poison & Gnaw vs Ian Identity & Skip Beau

Poison and Gnaw win this one and beat them up last time. I was thinking Identity and Skip win the tournament, but they faced the wrong team in the semi's

Running Wolf .... Seems to be destines for his return even though it hasn't been long enough yet

Express Delivery finally get their comeuppance.

Blockbuster vs Jack DeColt

Young? Hungry? Angry? No matter! Because This! IS! DECOLT COUNTRY!

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Hugh DeArrrske & Hustle King vs Diablo & Stevie

Diablo deserves to be higher up than a tag team with Stevie, I think this team self-destructs here.

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Joey Poison & Gnaw vs Ian Identity & Skip Beau

I've got Heels going over in the prior match, so Faces go over here.

... and who will answer Dan DaLay's open challenge? It has to be Running Wolf!

We need him back!

Faith Invitational Semi Final: Joey Poison & Gnaw vs Ian Identity & Skip Beau Thought you would go for this as the Final. As I don't want to see Faith back with Joey let's go with this.

Friday Week 2 November 2019</p><p>

Windsor, Ontario (10,314)</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><ul><li>STEVIE & DIABLO BEAT HUGH DeARRRSKE & HUSTLE KING to advance to the final of the Faith Invitational Tournament (10:26). Diablo alternates between resenting Stevie's encouragement and feeding off of his suffering, until King gives him a cheap shot. Mistake. Diablo takes them to hell. <strong>C-</strong><br /></li><li>Dan DaLay issues an open challenge to any dork backstage, and it's answered by Roger Monteiro, who is a member of Running Wolf's tribe and has come to claim the magical tomahawk. He smashes DaLay with tomahawk chops and Big Poppa decides the fans don't deserve to see him wrestle after all. <strong>C+</strong><br /></li><li>JOEY POISON & GNAW BEAT IAN IDENTITY & SKIP BEAU to advance to the final of the Faith Invitational Tournament (10:51). They use Poison's weaknesses against him, but Gnaw is a totally different animsal. Skip figures out one of his weaknesses by throwing water on him, and Ian removes his mask revealing his true face, but they pay a painful price. <strong>C-</strong><br /></li><li>Jack DeColt loves his mustache, but shaves it off to get his match. <strong>A</strong><br /></li><li>JACK DECOLT BEATS BLOCKBUSTER by Disqualification (13:18). After struggling to overcome the raw power of the Heavy Metal Mauler, the DeColt Legacy is interupted by Jack Bruce's New York Minute! <strong>B</strong><br /></li><li>Jack Bruce announces that he isn't done with DeColt. His loss at Last Man Standing has done major damage to the Jack Bruce brand, and now he's partnering up with Adrian Garcia, agent to the stars, to repair it. He challenges DeColt to a 3-on-3 match at Elimination, and invites Blockbuster to join his team. Blockbuster accepts. <strong>B+</strong><br /></li><li>WOOLABONGA BOGANS BEAT EXPRESS DELIVERY in a Going Postal Match to successfully defend the CGC Tag Team Titles (15:39). The Bogans learned how to handle boxes quickly, while Express Delivery are out of practice now that they have Drones to do the work for them. Speaking of Drones, they try to interfere, but the Not-DWB keep them at bay, and the Bogans pack Hugh Ancrie in a box. <strong>C+</strong><br /></li><li>Bobby apologises to Stevie backstage. Stevie forgives him, accidents happen in wrestling, but Bobby isn't apologising for what he did at Last Man Standing. He's apologising for what he has to do now. SUPER KICK! <strong>C</strong><br /></li><li>ZEUS MAXMILLION BEATS BOBBY THOMAS to retain the CGC World Title (19:44) Zeus is FURIOUS, rage and electricity, and Bobby Thomas weathers the thunderstorm and waits for the mistakes before methodically picking apart the Champion's knee and inviting him to a Super Kick conference. It's an effective gameplan... but it's not enough to defeat a God. Three Thunder Bolts put Bobby down. <strong>B-</strong></li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>FINAL RATING: <strong>B</strong></p><p>

0.09 Buy Rate (49,002 buys)</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="ep6Bp4y.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ep6Bp4y.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Niw this is a much better place to end it. I mean, there are still lose threads and cliffhangers, but this was the best rated show I've had, with the company's best buy-rate since the save began in 2016. The top 3 matches all killed it. </p><p> </p><p>

Running Wolf would have been awesome, but SWF snatched him up. So his fellow tribesman is here to pick up the story. </p><p> </p><p>

So why did I pick these winners? Even though this is it for posting shows, I still might play through a little while longer (finding it hard to let go of these guys) and so it's all about future plans, and CGC Elimination is in 9 weeks.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>ZEUS, STEVIE & DIABLO VS POISON, GNAW & ?????</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Elimination means trios and I like the idea of Zeus, Stevie & Diablo as a trio, with Diablo bound to the champion's service and Stevie teaching his new 'friend' how to drive a car and eat as a nice/fast food restraunt. Bobby needed to be out of the way so that Diablo could sit more comfortably on the babyface side, so he lost and has been sent on a paid vacation.</p><p> </p><p>

Stevie & Diablo colliding with Posion & Gnaw in the finals of Faith's tournament gets me where I want to be, which is Gnaw as a main event monster beating the hell into Zeus. Faith would join the babyfaces, taking over the detective work from Ian & Skip and being the focal point in figuring out the weaknesses (and also help out Stevie in skits). </p><p> </p><p>

A lot of fun matches to come from this. Poison/Zeus. Gnaw/Zeus. Gnaw/Diablo. The 'problem' is everyone is on a PPA deal, so in the interest of saving money I'd only want each guy on 5/9 of shows. </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>EXPRESS DELIVERY</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Stuffing Hugh Ancrie in a box (well deserved paid vacation) means I can reshuffle this faction and freshen them up. LaGrenier would try to replace his co-worker with the Drones (losing to Bogans, DWB, Ian & Skip, maybe even Stevie/Diablo) but find more success in his solo efforts (practically squashing Dice & Greaser) that leads to a singles focus. LaGrenier made huge strides in 2019 and I'd want him as Zeus' main threat by Chaos in the Cage 2020. Ancrie would return, and if I had to pick right now he'd remain with the group, and maybe form a new team with Drake. I think Hudson & Shufflebottom have been around too long to just get rid of them without a babyface turn, even though neither would have been my first pick for the role. Maaaaaaaybe Chucky goes babyface. A more serious kick-ass working class hero.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>JACK BRUCE, BLOCKBUSTER & ADRIAN GARCIA VS JACK DECOLT</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

I wanted Blockbuster to win, but Creative Control. I built 'Buster up from D popularity to C-, but Jack went from a B- to a B+ so... What are you gonna do? Jack Bruce is here to end his trilogy, as a heavy metal heel starting a new 'band'. Blockbuster's in-ring skills have peaked (really good performance, poor top row) but he can still improve in entertainment, so putting him with Garcia & Bruce in promos will help. They'd need a third member for Elimination. Someone who needs a new twist to freshen them up. Sayeed Ali exists. There's a guy on the indies, Mosher, who I auditioned months ago, who has great chemistry managing 'Buster. Right gimmick. Could be a good third if all I need is a skinny job guy. As for DeColt, he needs partners.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>IAN IDENTITY & SKIP BEAU</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

I like these two together, and I liked Ian as the main detective in regards to Gnaw (very DeColt role) but he can't be the guy to solve that puzzle. Not until Gnaw gets his main event run. So these two drop down a bit, but become my main midcard babyface workhorses. I hadn't decided how to crown a new Canadian Champion (or the new rules for the belt... maybe Canadian Only) but I think Ian would get it, beating Skip in the 'finals'.</p>

BOBBY! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'll keep cheering for the Eternal Everyman, even if he's a villain. Although, would it ruin his story to win the title now? Kind of like Tommy Dreamer in ECW? Is the chase more important than the victory?

I marked out for the reappearance of Jack Bruce. I'm the worst kind of filthy casual, there's all this hot new talent in the promotion and here I am, cheering for the old men to fight each other.

Some of the Drones turning Face would be great. Let them take some really bad beatdowns, they start talking about wanting more money, Drake rats them out because he's the worst, ED decide to fire them. Drones don't take it lying down, it all builds to a match. ED are impressed, offer the ringleader a contract to become a supervisor so they can discipline the other Drones. Ringleader refuses! Huzzah! Not sure where it goes from there, but that's a good Face turn.

As always, I love your work.

It's possible that's how it would have ended up for him. As Zeus had already won-the-big-one-after-years-of-trying I wanted to go a different way with Bobby. Plus Zeus needed long to stretch his legs as Champion. It would probably be another 6 months before Bobby would cycle back into a main event shot, but he does have 3 wishes. I never had any idea what I wanted him to actually do with those Wishes. They were great as a threat, a temptation, but they would be an easy way for Bobby to get the belt he so desperately wants... If he's okay with an asterisk next to his name.

There's a Pixar ethos I always enjoy. "We like characters more for trying than succeeding". Definitely feels like that's true from writing this.

I always wonder with that kind of booking. Jack vs Jack works great in TEW, but always felt underdeveloped and underwritten on the page. It's good that TEW stats do carry over to the actual audience.

Excellent as usual, Self.

Hope 2020 has given you an idea for another diary.

I have an idea. It's a bit high concept, so I'll need to wait for the full game to see if it remains viable beyond the 6 episodes I managed in the demo. Creatively, for the most part. Although it wouldn't shock me if Adam tweaks finances, as right now it's obscenely easy to be profitable with that product/business model.
