Lodi had a chance to make waves with an upset over The Giant however he fell to The Giant after he hit the Choke Slam for the pin. He celebrates in the ring to cheers.

Hollywood Hulk comes on screen, talking about how no wrestler deserves to be at the top in WCW more than him. He explains no wrestler in this promotion can knock him off the top, he and the NWO have plans for the future of this company. He gives his word the NWO will remain in power for the foreseeable future.

Savage and Piper go at each other, Piper ready to prove himself for a title shot, Savage wanting to stifle his attempt and keep the belt within the NWO. Hollywood Hulk Hogan joins the commentary team for this bout. Savage and Piper continue to brawl all over ringside. Savage hits a suplex out on the floor which rocks Piper. He drags him into the ring and hits the Elbow Drop for the pin and victory. Hollywood Hulk jumps into the ring and the pair beat down on Piper. Piper eventually gets up and starts to get some retaliation. Piper is doing damage to Hogan and Savage! The rest of the NWO come out for back up, allowing Hogan and Savage to watch from ringside. Security teams and some wrestlers from the back are in the process of breaking up the fight.

J.J.Dillon emerges from the back, he has a microphone and an announcement to make. He announces he and the WCW committee have decided instead of the 60 man, 3 ring battle royal at World War 3. They have decided to instead hold a one night singles tournament to determine who will get an opportunity for the WCW World Heavyweight Title at Uncensored, and with that match.
Welcome fans you’ve tuned in to WCW Monday Nitro! We have Ric Flair in action tonight, the television title #1 contendership match between Syxx and Meng, Also in our main event Scott Hall will be taking on Lex Luger.

We’re opening the show up to Wrath dominating Karagias in the ring, Wrath made easy work of Karagias, winning with a Pumphandle Slam.

Backstage in the NWO locker room. We see members talking about the upcoming tournament. Hall announces he has full intentions of entering the tournament and winning the WCW World Championship. Hulk takes offense to this. Saying the championship should stay in the hands of Hollywood as he is the best wrestler. The locker room agrees. Hulk says Scott wouldn’t have a chance anyway which ticks Scott off. Scott Hall says he will take the title from Hogan and storms off. The NWO laugh Hall off. Could this mean trouble inside the New World Order?

The Nature Boy enters the ring and says he needs a match tonight and tells the committee to send someone out to face him. Louie Spicolli makes his way to the ring. Flair pins Spicolli via Inside Cradle.

The Steiner Brothers announce both of them will be entering the tournament at world war 3.

Disco Inferno cuts a promo, saying it dosen’t matter who wins this match, they are both inferior to the Disco Inferno.

Meng gave Syxx a brutal beating in the early-goings of this match. However NWO involvement soon played a part, in the form of a chairshot behind the referees back. The chairshot to the head on Meng proved too much for the Tongan. Syxx gets the pin and the #1 contendership. Syxx says they will bring the Television Title to the NWO. Hall is absent.

Nash, Hogan and Syxx join the announcers table. We see the entrance of US champion Curt Hennig. The NWO on commentary assured us there was no possibility of the US Title leaving NWO hands. Hogan spoke on Piper’s entrance in the upcoming tournament at World War 3, saying he thinks he isn’t worthy of a title shot. On top of that he lost his match last week, he didn’t win. When asked of the absence of Scott Hall. The NWO weren’t sure where he was and that honestly they didn’t really care.

Hugh Morrus starts with a barrage of offense on Hennig. He surprises him and gains an early advantage. He really gives it to Hennig and the crowd is behind him. Hennig rolls out of the ring and NWO members Scott Norton and Buff Bagwell jump up to the apron. Morrus goes after the NWO members Scott Norton and Buff Bagwell knocking them off ringside! Celebrating with his back turned he allows Hennig to slip in and catch him with a Hennig Plex for the pin. Bagwell and Norton attack Morrus post-match.

This Saturday on TBS, Hugh Morrus against Saturn. Steve McMichael vs Juventud Guerrera. Lodi vs Evan Karagias.

Mean Gene caught up to Scott Hall backstage pacing the hallways. Scott Hall said he is entering the tournament at World War 3. He tells Mean Gene its time for all the blood, sweat and tears that he has put into this industry to pay off. He tells Mean Gene the title will be his. He says he looks forward to fighting Luger tonight.

We have Luger and Hall in the ring. The NWO surround the ring as well. They set up chairs for a close seat to the action. An intimidation tactic on Scott Hall. Luger gains the early advantage. Hall strikes back. They go back and forth in a superb match. Before the NWO interferes. Kevin Nash comes in from behind and starts the attack on Hall. The NWO dog pile on Hall!! Luger joins in on the beatdown!!!! Luger and Hogan shake hands as Luger gets his shirt signifying he has joined the NWO. The Boo’s reign down and Nitro fades to black.

WCW World War 3 1997

Richmond Stadium in front of 30,000 fans.

Curt Hennig defended his title in the opening match

Johnny Grunge showed up ready to fight and make the most of this opportunity. He surprised Hennig and nearly got the pin but Hennig got a foot on the ropes. Grunge went to go high risk before Hennig rolled out of harm’s way which allowed him to take control of the match, pinning Grunge with the Hennig Plex.

In the Cruiserweight Showcase match, Rey Mysterio Jr defeated Kidman when he pinned him with a Springboard Hurricanrana.

Time for the tournament’s first round matches:

Scott Hall nearly gets pinned early with a cradle by Sting. Scott Hall starts to pound Sting around in the ring. A High Backbody Drop gets a two count for Hall on Sting. Sting starts to get some shots in at Hall and gets him in the corner where he is hit with a Stinger Splash and applies the Scorpion Deathlock! Hall is reaching! Trying for the ropes!! Hall gets there. Hall fights his way back into the match and weakens the Stinger enough to hit him with a vicious backbreaker, He gets him up for the Razor’s Edge and a victory. Scott Hall moves on!

This match was just a brawl. Roddy Piper looking to make his way into the title picture. Steiner beat down Piper but got cocky allowing Piper back in the fight. Piper hit some suplexes. Steiner kicks out. Piper eventually finished the match with the sleeper hold on Steiner. He moves on to face Scott Hall in the next round.

Randy Savage entered the ring first, followed by Kevin Nash. Nash prepared for Savage to lay down when the bell rung. Boos reign down as Savage lays on his back. 1..2..kicked out! Nash is shocked, the crowd is perplexed. Savage with a right hand from his back! He gets up and starts to fight back against Kevin Nash, the crowd is going wild! Nash gets Savage in the corner and delivers a big boot. Savage fights his way out of the corner and hits Nash with a piledriver. Savage continues to push Nash around. Nash responds with some hard shots that drop Savage. Nash grapples with Savage but is forced to the corner. He is caught with a back elbow between the eyes. Dropping him and allowing Randy Savage to get to the top rope and a quick elbow drop for the win! Savage has turned on the NWO! NWO members lay a beatdown on Savage after the match.

Steiner tried to push around and out muscle The Giant. He gains an early edge and hits lands a DDT on The Giant. Steiner tried to suplex The Giant which was reversed. The Giant begins getting some offense. Sent into the corner by Steiner and nailed with a boot to the face. Some chops to The Giants chest are added in for good measure. Steiner tries to get The Giant up again but still cannot manage. The Giant counters into a sleeper hold… The hold is tight and Steiner is gasping for breath. Scott Steiner taps out. The Giant moves on to face Randy Savage.

Piper and Hall begin exchanging offense early on in the center of the ring. The experience of the veteran Piper gives him an edge. Hall manages some offense. He misses the Jumping Clothesline. Piper eventually gets Hall with a sneaky roll-up to move on to the finals.

Savage and The Giant meet in the next semi-final bout. Savage trips up The Giant who gets a face full of rope. Savage charges off the ropes and delivers a clothesline sending The Giant to the outside. Savage is putting on a good performance for someone who was beat up earlier on in the night. Hogan and Bischoff are on the commentary booth and announce Randy Savage is no longer a member of the NWO after his actions tonight. They promise he will face the consequences of his actions. Back in the ring The Giant has Savage in a Single Leg Boston Crab… Savage shows his determination and gets to the ropes. Giant goes to toss Savage to the center of the ring but Savage battles back and responds with a barrage of offense stunning the Giant. As The Giant is catching his wits, Savage gets to the top rope and hits Giant with a Flying Double Axehandle. Savage goes to the top again for the Elbow Drop and the pin. Savage moves on to face Piper

Hollywood nearly puts it away early with a surprise Axe Bomber before the bell rings. 1..2..kicked out and Page is still in it. Hogan attempts a scoop and slam but Page gets free and hits Hogan with a Ura-Nage suplex. He then waits for Hollywood to get up before he hits him with a Diamond Cutter! Page just got a win over the World Champion!!

Piper gets the better of Savage in the beginning. Remembering Savage just beat Piper a few weeks ago on Nitro. Piper with a hard right that sends Savage to the canvas. Piper gets in some stomps on the downed Savage. Piper is looking like the favorite to win. Perhaps the beat down and 2 previous matches tonight will prove to be too much for Randy. Piper gets down on the ground, yelling at Randy to get up and Randy fires back with a quick strike, he works on Piper beating him down and he has him stunned, Savage hits the flying axehandle. Piper gets in little offense but is still in this fight. Savage goes for a clothesline and Piper stands it up and lands some left and right hands on Savage. Savage is down. He gets to his feet as these two exhausted superstars continue to battle it out. He sends Piper to the corner and slams his face onto the turnbuckle. An exhausted Piper falls to the ground. The crowd gets behind Savage as he finds the energy to get to the top rope. He hits the Elbow Drop 1….2….3… Savage has done it!! He celebrates in the ring and is awarded his contract! The NWO’s music hits but no one is seen. Then Lex Luger emerges from behind with a Chairshot. Luger beats down on Savage like a madman, earning the respect of his fellow NWO members. Luger says its him and Savage at Starrcade!! What a night folks! Remember to catch Nitro tomorrow night on TNT.

Rating: C

Glacier dominated in this match and got the better of tag team veteran Johnny Grunge. Rocco Rock was at ringside with his partner. Rock tried to distract Glacier but only distracted his partner Grunge and allowed Glacier to finish the match with a Cryonic Kick.

Rating: D

Wrath vs Goldberg

This was a back and forth match. Wrath has been on a winning streak and showed improvements in the ring in a big way. The fans were worried for Goldberg as Wrath’s ability to move compared to his size and his toughness made it hard for Goldberg to crack him. Howevver Goldberg showed he is still superior by nailing Wrath with The Spear and getting the victory.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Goldberg defeated Wrath in 9:08 by pinfall with The Spear.

Rating: C-

WCW Television Championship:

Disco Inferno vs Eddie Guerrero

Randy Savage vs Rey Mysterio

Mysterio comes at Savage with a barrage of high-flying offense. It takes Savage a few minutes to start gaining some offense. He whips Mysterio into the corner and begins getting him with strikes and chops. He continued to beat on Mysterio but Mysterio kicked out several times showing great heart and determination. Mysterio would get in some offense late in the match, But it was Savage who picks up the victory.
