Gordon Solie and Buddy Colt welcome us to this week’s episode of World Wide Wrestling. They hype this week’s show. We’ll see Harley Race defending his NWA Central States championship. In addition we’ll see ‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams in action and also two Crockett Cup matchups. Gino Hernandez and Jim Duggan take on the Koloffs and in the other the Armstrongs, father and son, take on Roddy Piper and Dick Slater. All this and more!

The younger Michaels uses his speed and ability to make Race miss to his advantage but the veteran eventually corners him and then punishes Michaesl for the rest of the match until he finishes it with the diving headbutt.

WINNER BY PINFALL AND STILL NWA CENTRAL STATES CHAMPION: HARLEY RACE

Back in the studio, Solie and Colt inform us we’ll see Harley Race defend his title again in a few weeks at the Crockett Cup where a big title defense has just been signed. Two greats of the ring, Harley Race versus caribbean legend Carlos Colon. You don’t want to miss it!

<b>GINO HERNANDEZ AND JIM DUGGAN VS THE KOLOFFS</b>

A good back and forth match that sees Hernandez take a beating in the corner but he makes the hot tag to Duggan who cleans house and begins going toe to toe with Nikita. Ivan tries to interfere but Hernandez comes in to check him. Unfortunately referee Earl Hebner cuts him off. With the referee’s back turned, Duggan starts brawling with Ivan allowing Nikita to ambush him from behind before he hits a Russian Sickle for the win.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: THE KOLOFFS

<b>CHRIS ADAMS VS TRACY SMOTHERS</b>

Adams controls the match acting very pompous. Smothers puts up a good fight but falls victim to the superkick.

We go to a pre-taped promo where James J. Dillon is standing by with his new man Barry Windham. He says that they have their sights set on gold in 1986 and when given the opportunity you’re looking at a future champion!

<b>RODDY PIPER AND DICK SLATER VS THE ARMSTRONGS</b>

The Armstrongs have come to fight and they lay into Piper and Slater as soon as the match begins and both men take a trip to the outside to regroup before Piper comes back into the ring and immediately gains an advantage through a blatant eye poke. He and Slater work over Brad for several minutes until Bob gets the hot tag. The elder Armstrong is on fire but while he has Slater where he wants him, Piper slips something out of his trunks and when Armstrong bounds off the ropes, Piper punches him in the back of the head. Bob Armstrong drops like a rock and Slater makes a quick cover for the win.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: RODDY PIPER AND DICK SLATER

As Brad attends to his father Piper and Slater roll to the outside with big smirks and smiles. Piper kisses his fist, now missing the brass knuckles, and loudly proclaims we ain’t seen nothing yet!

And of course we have the final two first round matches for the Crockett Cup: The Rock and Roll Express versus the Sheepherders and the NWA World Tag Team Champions, the Andersons versus the Guerrerro brothers. All this and more!

<b>THE ROCK AND ROLL EXPRESS VS THE SHEEPHERDERS</b>

The Sheepherders isolate Ricky Morton and beat him without mercy, even biting him. Morton makes a tag to Gibson but the referee doesn't see it and forces Gibson out of the ring, allowing the New Zealanders to double team Morton a little more. Finally Morton uses everything he has to fight back and make the tag. Gibson has been waiting long enough and explodes on both Williams and Miller. The tide has turned and once he can catch his second wind, Morton is back and together he and Gibson hit the double dropkick on Miller for the win.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: THE ROCK AND ROLL EXPRESS

We see a replay of the double dropkick that ended the match. Buddy Colt tells us not to change the channel!

<b>STEVE WILLIAMS VS BILL MULKEY</b>

Williams beats the dog snot out of Mulkey for several minutes before bringing the match to a close with the Ura nage.

<b>KERRY VON ERICH VS STEVE LOMBARDI</b>

Von Erich is in full control in this one as he shows off his skill in the ring. Lombardi can do nothing right and the end comes when Lombardi is whipped into the ropes and when he rebounds Von Erich catches him with the Iron Claw. Lombardi is put flat on his back and Von Erich collects the 123.

WINNER BY PINFALL: KERRY VON ERICH

In a pre-taped segment Ivan Koloff with his nephew Nikita tell us how the Midnight Express and their little man Jim Cornette are the next team in their way and they will stop at nothing to bring those NWA United States Tag Team Championships back to Mother Russia!

<b>THE ANDERSONS W/BOBBY HEENAN VS THE GUERREROS</b>

The Andersons start out hot but the Guerreros slow them down and build momentum with quick tags and fast action. Arn looks to be in trouble when Ole enters and buys his partner time by picking a fight with Chavo who is also on the apron. As the referee grows distracted, Arn kicks Hector low, then nails a spinning spinebuster. Ole collects the tag, goes to the top and hits a big knee as Hector finally gets to his feet. Arn rushes around and yanks Chavo down to the floor as Ole makes the cover and gets the win.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: THE ANDERSONS

Gordon Solie and Buddy Colt run down the second round of Crockett Cup that we’ll see happening next Saturday night on Pay Per View, live from the Omni in Atlanta.

this has been really good to read from the start. I'll admit I miss not seeing the match and show scores like you at first. That always a little to it (since we don't actually see the match itself, it helps visualize just how good it was). I've seen some that put the scores in a different post if they think it takes away from their write-ups. Personally, I'd love to see at least a quarterly report between JCP and WWF so we see who's gaining the edge (popularity, reach, finances).

It's a shame to see so many small territories being gobbled up. Not unlike how real life unfolded, but still sad to see history repeating. On the other, I love that Crockett was able to steal Piper back and hopefully that will help give him an edge. BTW, I love the monster push Kamala has been getting on the undercard. He's left a pile of bodies and blood in his wake. I keep hoping that maybe he gets a small title run at some point.

<b>THE SPOILER W/GARY HART VS RAYMOND ROUGEAU</b>

Rougeau does a great job of selling in this one which is good since he got in zero offense. The Spoiler has the advantage from the opening bell. As his man works Rougeau over Gart Hart is loudly badmouthing Tommy Rich. FInally the match comes to an end following a clubbing forearm dropped from the top rope as the Spoiler walks the ropes and goes for the pin.

WINNER BY PINFALL: THE SPOILER

<b>SAM HOUSTON VS MARTY JANNETTY</b>

A great back and forth match between these two guys. Both use a high paced offense with several close pinfall attempts on both sides. When Jannetty goes for a missile dropkick from the top Houston dodges and when a dazed Jannetty gets to feet Houston hits the bulldog.

WINNER BY PINFALL: SAM HOUSTON

Schiavone and Ross hype the unsanctioned steel cage match that the world of wrestling is talking about. Magnum T.A. looks for revenge against the man who tried to end his career, Rick Rude.

<b>TERRY GORDY VS BRIAN BLAIR</b>

Gordy dominates the match and quickly ends it with a running leg drop.

WINNER BY PINFALL: SOMEONE

Schiavone and Ross hype the first night of the Crockett Cup. In addition to the Central States Championship match and the steel cage, we have four second round matches to determine who moves on to tomorrow night and the chance at the United States Tag Team Championship.

Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, and the ‘Dean of Professional Wrestling’ Gordon Solie welcome us to this highly anticipated two night event, the Crockett Cup. Speaking to both the home audience and the sold out Omni, they run down the card we’re going to see here on night number one but it is with a heavy heart that they have to first tell us of a devastating piece of news.

Recently, Beautiful Bobby Eaton, one half of the Midnight Express who were supposed to compete here tonight versus the Koloffs was involved in a very serious accident during a match. Schiavone stresses this is not part of the show, and very much a serious situation. Dennis Condrey and Jim Cornette were given the option of finding a replacement partner but both men preferred to be with Bobby at this time and so it is by the order of Jim Crockett Jr, owner and promoter of Jim Crockett Promotions that the Koloffs will be facing a replacement team here tonight. Solie adds that everyone in professional wrestling is thinking and praying for Bobby Eaton. With that we go to the ring for the first match of the night.

<b>THE ROCK AND ROLL EXPRESS VS THE MALENKOS W/JIMMY HART</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

These teams know each other very well and it shows in their chemistry as opponents. The match follows the traditional method of Morton taking a beating then making the hot tag to Gibson but when he does the Malenkos are prepared and use a distraction by Jimmy Hart on the apron to subdue Gibson with a double team. What they don’t count on is Morton hitting a dropkick in the back to Dean who crashes into Hart. This turn of events distracts Joe Malenko who is rolled up for a three count.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: THE ROCK AND ROLL EXPRESS

Ricky and Robert reunite on the outside and share a hug as their fans go crazy congratulating them. In the ring the Malenkos look shocked as Jimmy Hart is near tears.

Backstage, Bob Caudle stands by with Rick Rude. Rude seems supremely confident and says tonight everyone will witness the end of Magnum T.A. He should have stayed in the hospital but now Rude has the obligation to put him down like a horse with a broken leg. He finishes by telling Magnum he’ll see him in the cage.

<b>THE KOLOFFS VS BILLY GRAHAM AND MR. USA</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

To the crowd’s delight and the Koloffs’ aggravation, Superstar Billy Graham and his partner “Mr. USA” who is clearly Jim Duggan in americana face paint. Duggan..er...Mr. USA isn’t even trying to act, walk, or talk differently. The match is a lot of power moves and the Koloffs are pressed several times on close two counts but in the end Ivan distracts Mr. USA and allows Nikita to get the pin on Graham following a Russian Sickle.

WINNERS BY PINFALL: THE KOLOFFS

We see a slow motion replay of the Russian Sickle on Billy Graham which floors him and allows for the 1-2-3.

We cut to the back where we see into Jimmy Garvin’s dressing room. Missy is alread hard at work primping his hair. Garvin is adamant he has to look GORGEOUS for his Television title match tomorrow night. She nods as she continues working on him as he smiles into the mirror.

<b>HARLEY RACE © VS CARLOS COLON</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

Two veterans of the squared circle and who know all the tricks. The match is pretty good even at their ages and reduced abilities. Colon begins to build momentum late but Race stops him cold with a headbutt and a gut wrench suplex which leads to the diving headbutt off the second rope to put it away.

WINNER BY PINFALL AND STILL NWA CENTRAL STATES CHAMPION: HARLEY RACE

Bob Caudle is standing by with an agitated Randy Savage and his Woman. Savage says that you can do a lot of things in this life but disrespecting the Macho Man isn’t one of them, no it isn’t! Everyone around here walks around on eggshells around Bruiser Brody but he’s not afraid. In fact he wants Brody tomorrow night here in the Omni and he’ll put this United States title on the line to get it. Freak out, freak out!

We see the NWA World Champion Dusty Rhodes sitting in the front row eating popcorn and carrying on with the fans. Dusty is dressed casually and blends in as a man of the people. When he sees the camera on him he points at it with a big smile and tells Tully Blanchard to get ready for an ass whippin’ tomorrow night!

<b>THE FUNKS VS RODDY PIPER AND DICK SLATER</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

When you’re dealing with two former NWA World Champions you’ve got your hands full but when you add that one of them is certifiably crazy it gets worse. Piper and Slater find themselves on the receiving end of the craziness in the opening minutes of the match but they settle it down and once Dory is in they focus on him. Dory fights to tag in his brother and gets close a few times but he’s always stopped. Just as it looks like he will after breaking free of Piper, Slater runs around the ring and instigates a fight with Terry. With no one to tag, Dory turns his attention to Piper who hits him right a big right hand after again retrieving something from his trunks as he did in the last match. Piper makes the cover and gets the win.

WINNER BY PINFALL: RODDY PIPER AND DICK SLATER

Terry Funk isn’t ready to give up the fight and grabs his branding iron. Piper and Slater learn retreat is the better part of valor as they head up the aisle away from the crazed Texas swinging the iron above his head.

Bob Caudle is backstage with the Andersons and Bobby Heenan. Heenan says he’s been waiting for weeks for this opportunity to show the world what a real tag team can do versus two humanoids with makeup on. Ole says tonight the Andersons set the record straight and tomorrow night they’ll be wearing two titles!

<b>THE ANDERSONS W/BOBBY HEENAN VS THE ROAD WARRIORS W/PAUL ELLERING</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

The Andersons walk into this oozing confidence but as soon as they enter, they both get a press slam and head out of the ring to regroup with Heenan. The match settles down and is a good brawl. The Andersons work over Hawk for a few minutes but when Animal gets the tag he cleans house showing off his immense strength. Arn is nearly put up in the Doomsday device but Ole pulls him down and the four men begin to slug it out. The action spills out onto the floor and there is no stopping them as the referee counts to ten.

NO CONTEST: DOUBLE COUNTOUT

The Andersons and Road Warriors continue to fight back up the aisle and into the backstage area out of sight of the cameras.

Ring announcer Tom Miller tells us it’s time for the main event of the evening. Unsanctioned, inside of a steel cage. He introduces Rick Rude first to a chorus of boos.

Rude takes his time entering the ring after staring up at the structure for a few moments. Rude looks very focused as Miller announces his opponent.

The crowd comes alive as Magnum T.A. makes his way to the ring with Rude already in the cage. Magnum gets pulled closer by a few girls who plant kisses on his cheek but his eyes are locked on Rude and as soon as he enters the cage, the fight is on!

STEEL CAGE MATCH

<b>MAGNUM T.A. VS RICK RUDE</b><span style="font-weight:normal;">

The two men batter each other before the bell even rings and Magnum gets the upper hand immediately, running Rude face first into one side of the cage, then the other, then back to the first. Rude is busted open by the second hit and staggers only to fall flat on his face. Magnum pours down more vengeance but when Rude slings him into the cage and breaks him open the match evens out. The match flips from one man to the other for nearly twenty minutes as they beat the hell out of each other. Rude senses he needs something big to end this so he climbs to the top but Magnum crotches him by hitting the ropes. With Rude stunned, Magnum climbs up as well and delivers a huge belly to belly suplex from the top rope. He stays atop Rude as the referee counts to three.

WINNER BY PINFALL: MAGNUM T.A.

Magnum gets his arm raised before wiping the blood streaming from his forehead. Rude is still down in a crumpled heap and Magnum steps over him on his way out of the cage. The announcers sound jubilant about this outcome but remind us to come back tomorrow night for the second half of the Crockett Cup!

They hype this week’s show as well telling us we’ll see Jerry ‘the King’ Lawler, the Guerreros, Barry Windham and in our main event Gino Hernandez takes on Michael Hayes. All this and more!

<b>JERRY LAWLER VS TOM PRICHARD</b>

Lawler is in control early but the younger opponent grabs the momentum half way through thanks to some less-than-honorable tactics. This just angers Lawler and when he drops the shoulder strap the crowd knows it’s time for business. Lawler ends up sealing the deal with a diving punch from the second rope.

Solie and Colt spend a few minutes hyping the NWA United States Championship match which was signed just this morning after the behest of Randy Savage. Colt questions the rationale of anyone wanting to get in the ring with someone like Bruiser Brody. Solie says it will surely be one to watch tonight!

<b>THE GUERREROS VS MIKE SHARPE AND STEVE LOMBARDI</b>

Hector and Chavo are in rare form in this one with a perfect flow to their tags and while they keep their opponents on their heels they show off their own skills. They end the match when Hector hits Lombardi with the Gory-Bomb.

<b>BARRY WINDHAM W/JAMES J. DILLON VS MIKE RAPADA</b>

Windham dominates a relatively short match, making Dillon very proud. Windham whips his opponent into the ropes and hits a huge lariat for the win.

Solie and Colt spend a few minutes hyping the NWA World Heavyweight Championship match between the American Dream Dusty Rhodes and Tully Blanchard. They cite their long history and what has happened especially the last few weeks.

A great back and forth match which sees both men get in equal offense. Hayes begins doing a little too much talking to the fans, opening the door for Hernandez to seize control and he ends the match hitting the Deposit.

Solie and Colt recap tonight’s lineup, live on pay per view, for the second night of the Crockett Cup. They tell us the Koloffs have a bye into the finals due to the Road Warriors and Andersons having their double count out last night.

<strong>This match is physical from the word go as Savage and Brody gel in their different approaches. Both men control large swathes of the match but Brody’s pure power begins to take over late. Savage eats a running boot to the face but as Brody goes to the second rope to come off with a knee drop Woman climbs onto the apron, hugging his leg. Brody restrains from hitting her but the distraction allows Savage to hit a running elbow, tumbling Brody down to the floor. The referee, still dealing with Woman didn’t see it happen and though he accuses Savage he has no proof. Brody is getting up slowly as Savage climbs to the top and flies with a double axe handle to his back. Rolling the wildman back into the ring, Savage climbs again and flies with his elbow drop. Brody kicks out just after the ref counts to three.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Khruschev tries to go for a punch but Duggan ducks it and whacks him with the board. Ivan sends Nikita to retrieve the chain but Duggan is standing on the other end of it. Distracted by all this outside action Ivan doesn’t see his opponents getting to their feet and when he turns around he eats a double dropkick. The referee drags himself over and counts to three with Nikita just a second too late to stop it.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

<strong>Following the ring introductions these two go at each other non stop for nearly a half hour. Both get in long stretches of control during the match but Heenan begins to pay dividends on the outside, getting in cheap shot punches or kicks whenever he can behind the referee’s back. Tully begins to feel the momentum and goes for the slingshot suplex but Dusty blocks it twice before reversing position and then he hits the slingshot. He makes the cover but Tully kicks out at 2 1/2.. Dusty delivers two big elbow drops and when Heenan climbs onto the apron he gets a Bionic Elbow for his troubles. Tully rolls Dusty up pulling the tights but the champ kicks out at 2. Tully whips Dusty but it’s reversed and Dusty hits a running elbow. The champion bounds off the ropes and hits a big falling elbow drop and hooks the leg for the win. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Tully and the Andersons back off as Dusty and Flair are side by side ready to fight. Heenan is yelling for his men to get out of the ring and they begin to. Dusty takes a few steps towards them and that’s when Flair chop blocks him from behind. In a flash Blanchard and the Andersons are back in the ring and now it’s four on one. As all four men put the boots, or in Flair’s case the $1000 shoes to Rhodes, Flair breaks off and puts Dusty in the figure four. Rhodes is screaming in pain, reaching out for any help but there is no help to be found. Ole drops a couple of knees across Dusty and Heenan is playing traffic cop. Finally we hear the crowd buzz as Magnum T.A. and the Road Warriors come running down to the ring</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Dusty Rhodes has earned the target on his back and the hatred in their hearts and you want to know why Flair would want to end his career? Because he has what belongs to Flair! While he was out in Hollywood making a million dollar movie he had time to watch how Dusty Rhodes carried himself and he doesn’t carry himself like a champion. He carries himself like one of these common people like we see every week on television. That championship deserves better and pretty soon it’s going to be back where it belongs one way or the other.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Roberts is in full control in this match with the Stallion not getting in more that cursory offense. The end comes suddenly with the DDT.

Solie and Colt tell us that next week we’ll see the new NWA United States Tag Team Champions the Rock and Roll Express defend their titles against Ron Bass and Dutch Mantell.

An NWA Championship match which sees both men get in equal offense. With Roberts staggered, Ware goes to the top but when he flies for a missile dropkick, Roberts dodges it. Now Ware is stunned and Roberts moves in, hitting a swinging neckbreaker for the win.

<p>Slater and Orton were a hall of fame tag team together, so that's a pretty big deal that Orton sided with his WWF running buddy over his long time championship partner. Looking for lots of fun angles and matches and this develops.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm glad Slater and Piper look to be splitting up.
