WWE RAW 13: Puerto Rico

Pre-Show: Hawkins & Ryder, Ever-Rise, DoiYoshi (Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino),

Lucha House Party, Strong Style Samurai (Shinsuke Nakamura, Akira Tozawa & KUSHIDA) all defeat local talent

JdFXQFn.jpg4zyp9Y3.jpgmCh6fPZ.jpgIRv15mF.jpgbZO8OJK.jpg

Paul Heyman and the Shooting Party are out – Paul is apoplectic ranting about how Rey Mysterio cheated his client Brock Lesnar out of his WWE title by using his son who had no right to be at ringside and how Rey’s son had viciously assaulted him. He says Rey Mysterio wears a mask so that nobody can see his criminal features. He demands that GM Regal strips Rey Mysterio of his stolen title and return it to the man he stole it from Paul’s client Brock Lesnar! If he doesn’t Brock will have to take the title by force.

iEPPBF2.jpgWgdbnQt.jpgskNvSt2.jpgYQWfIJS.jpg

Rey Mysterio, Daniel Cormier, Frank Mir & Cain Velasquez come out to respond to the Shooting Party. Rey says that Paul can say what he likes about him because everyone saw him try to open the door for Brock and all Dominick did as even the odds. Rey says he’s brought some back up with him tonight too.

WINn3ao.jpg

Regal comes out and says that the match result is final and if Heyman’s clients want a fight tonight he’s sure Rey and his friends are more than happy to face them. Rey nods enthusiastically. The crowd is really hot at the concept of the Shooing part taking on Rey and the MMA greats.

iEPPBF2.jpgWgdbnQt.jpgskNvSt2.jpgYQWfIJS.jpg4zyp9Y3.jpgmCh6fPZ.jpgIRv15mF.jpgbZO8OJK.jpg

1: Rey Mysterio, Frank Mir, Daniel Cormier & Cain Velasquez defeated The Shooting Party (Haas, Benjamin, Lesnar & McGregor) – This didn’t go all that long coming in at around 11 minutes but those 11 minutes were packed with some white hot action. What the MMA guys lack in ring psychology they make up for in intensity and legitimate credibility and with Haas and Benjamin’s amateur wrestling background this was a treat for people who love matches with a sense of legitimacy. The man with pro-wrestling running through his veins Rey Mysterio got the pin after hitting a 619 on Charlie Haas whilst the other 6 men brawled outside the ring which led to the crowd going wild.

0fWqldX.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

2: Io Shirai def local talent Vanilla Vargas – Womens Royal rumble winner Io Shirai made her official Main Roster bout against a local talent. This match did little to show off Io’s obvious skills but did it’s job by having her dominate the local girl and established her character with viewers who hadn’t seen NXT or the Rumble..

0fWqldX.jpgqWKT0kY.jpg

Afterwards Io is heading up the ramp when Asuka’s music hits. The two former Triple Tails team mates look at each other for about 15 seconds without saying a word . Io points at Asuka’s belt and then at the Mania sign. Asuka nods. We are used to a lot of hype around who the Rumble winner would choose but this was simple and effective.

qWKT0kY.jpgihwjMsj.jpg

3: Asuka defeated ODB to retain the RAW Womens title – former Impact stalwart ODB is based in Puerto Rico and got to face the RAW Womens champion Asuka. ODB was allowed to get in some offence and her sheer size made her appear a credible threat even if the result was never really in doubt. Asuka made her tap out in a Asuka Lock. This was in the 3 star range but was a lot faster paced and harder hitting than the average woman's tv bout. It was good to see them let Asuka loose for once and it was a nice change from the more theatrical women’s style the WWE often uses.

h9VXQNl.jpgBWJb56H.jpg2tTJyaO.jpgcOatjiD.jpgebZPdoF.jpgxBamVpF.jpgD4UUEj7.jpgWINn3ao.jpg

The O.C. are celebrating AJ’s win over Kofi, The New Day come out and they all argue, Regal comes out and makes a 6 man match – the crowd is hot for this.

ebZPdoF.jpgxBamVpF.jpgD4UUEj7.jpgBWJb56H.jpg2tTJyaO.jpgcOatjiD.jpg

4: The New Day defeated The O.C. (Finn, Gallows, Anderson) – The two multi-man tags tonight have delivered in spades. Balor, Anderson & Gallows have probably been under-utilised during their time in the WWE and the New Day’s skills are sometimes masked by the trombones, pancakes and unicorns but all 6 men brought some hard hitting intensity to this match. It felt like they wanted to prove they could bring it as hard as the MMA backgrounded guys did earlier and that and the ongoing feud gave this match an edge. Kofi nailed the Trouble in Paradise on Anderson for the pin.

h9VXQNl.jpgBWJb56H.jpg2tTJyaO.jpgcOatjiD.jpgebZPdoF.jpgxBamVpF.jpgD4UUEj7.jpg7PcwYy8.jpg

Post match AJ Styles hits the ring and attacks Kofi. The O.C. and New day brawl – the lights flicker then the lights go out and a gong hits – when the lights come back up come up Undertaker has Finn Balor by the throat and he hits the chokeslam and stares at the rest of the O.C. who look nervous– The odds of Undertaker versus AJ Styles or Finn Balor at Wrestlemania would be sitting at about even money right now and frankly that’s not a bad prospect. The Taker hasn’t got a lot of matches left in him and what might be his last Mania match will get a lot of eyeballs on it if this crowds reaction was anything to go by.

aNPKexI.jpgJONALeS.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

5: Zelina Vega & Ember Moon def Local workers – well this was generated by a random booking generator – lets throw Zelina and Ember together for no reason and have them take on local talents (The masked Maria Maria and Amazona) for a quick bit of jiggly, pouting and strutting. It just seemed like they looked at their women saw two who didn’t have much direction and gave them something to do for a few minutes. It was fine but utterly forgettable.

LjxJdej.jpg3RukPdE.jpgY0ZPJhe.jpgutD54Ep.jpg

Backstage, Chad is asking Jason Jordan if he’s sure he’s physically up to tonight’s match – Jordan says he’s worked too hard and for too long to get back into the ring and he’s ready. Kevin & Sami approach and welcome Jordan back and say they are glad he’s recovered but warn him they aren’t going to go easy on him tonight. Jordan thanks them for that saying he wouldn’t want them too.

xF4Zkeg.jpg5NoOotn.jpg5rUCuku.jpgSO9HcUc.jpg

Elsewhere we get a very different interaction with John Morrison running Alexanader & Ricochet down calling them a cut price MNN with lots of athleticism but not of the charisma. Velocity challenges MNM to a match right now. The crowd is responding to most everything tonight.

5rUCuku.jpgSO9HcUc.jpgYXCGs7X.jpgxF4Zkeg.jpg5NoOotn.jpg

6: MNM with Taya Valkyrie defeated Velocity (Alexander & Ricochet) – The role of Melina Perez will be played by Taya Valkyrie tonight (and every night if we are being honest). They did the old school MNM entrance which was a fun bit of nostalgia. This was a lot of fun with Ricochet and Cedric Alexander bringing a lot of high flying spots which the crowd enjoyed. Taya Valkyrie tripped up Cedric Alexander which allowed Morrison to take control and eventually nail Alexander with the Starship Pain for the win.

GLuuIk0.jpg

John Cena cuts a promo backstage about how he needs a Wrestlemania match as he doesn’t know how many more he’ll get. The only way to make sure of that is to win the Elimination Chamber match and he swears he’ll do that.

WINn3ao.jpgjvvS6R5.jpgDKXwt0R.jpgiEPPBF2.jpgE0VCOAY.jpghJMQkBd.jpgwLd4jkv.jpggc3gRrb.jpg

Regal, Stephanie and Shane come out – they praise the Royal Rumble and say tonight they have already seen Io Shirai challenge Asuka for a match at Wrestlemania but they still need to see who Royal Rumble Winner Roman Reigns (try saying that 5 times real fast) will choose to face. WWE champ Rey Mysterio comes out shortly followed by Universal champ Seth Rollins followed by Reigns. Reigns says that he respects everything Rey has done in this business and that he loves Seth Rollins like he’s one of his family and he has a lot of family Cult of Personality hits and CM Punk accompanied by Colt Cabana comes out. Punk chastises Stephanie for forgetting to invite him to this little party as he’s got a Wrestlemania destiny himself and Roman’s choice effects him as much as anyone. He turns to Reigns and says it doesn’t matter if Roman respects someone or loves someone like a brother when it comes to Mania you’ll do what it takes to win … if h was facing Colt he’s do what it takes to win … Colt looks shocked … Punk looks at him “I know we are good now but you sued me man, so don’t pretend you wouldn’t do what's necessary to win a Mania match”. Colt nods. Roman says that he’s made his choice , he walks up to Rey and offers him his hand – Rey shakes it and Roman wishes Rey good luck against Punk at Mania. Seth looks a little shocked. Roman walks up to him and says that he know who will bring out his best at Mania and that’s Seth the two men shake hands.

So we have our tentative Mania Main events - Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk and Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns but with 2 months to go things could change. This whole segment was as close to perfect as you’ll ever see Punk was at his swaggering best – Rey, Roman and Seth brought a believable sincerity and Colt Cabana’s hilarious reactions to Punk added a little levity that stopped the segment becoming too one note. With McGregor versus Daniel Bryan already set and a Undertaker match set up against an O.C. member clearly planned the Mania card is already starting to take shape.

Y0ZPJhe.jpgutD54Ep.jpgLjxJdej.jpg3RukPdE.jpg

7: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn def American Alpha to retain the RAW Tag Titles – It’s been a very good night for the WWE. Jason Jordan may have lost in his return to RAW television but he did so in a great bout. I expect them to take it slow with American Alpha to make sure that Jordan isn’t overtaxed over the next few months but the signs were great here. Sami Zayn nailed Jordan with a Helluva Kick to get the win.

Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, The Usos, Naomi and Curtis Axel are in ring to celebrate Seth’s victory over Bray Wyatt and Roman’s Rumble win. Seth says now that he’s had some time to reflect there is nobody he’d rather face at Wrestlemania than his brother Roman Reigns because he knows that he can trust his opponent not to take the low road in the match – two men bump fists and then hug it out. They both look up at the Mania sign and point at it.

John Cena is walking towards the stage area when …. R.K.O out of nowhere! Orton just saved us from a Cena promo … I am sure some people popped for that.

Backstage – The Lethal Warriors approach the 2nd City Saints & The Chickbusters and get in Punk and Cabana’s face. A fight ensues and has to be broken up by Road Agent’s and other backstage staff. Shane & Steph approach and book Lethal vs Punk and Joe vs Cabana for later tonight..

9TMrFNG.jpg49y7blR.jpg

1: Cesaro retained the 24/7 title over Konnor – Cesaro essentially squashed the now solo Konnor in a solid but uninspiring match. Konnor has decent size and power so he at least visually looks like a decent challenge but he’s a pretty limited brawler.

CgjpBSz.jpg9TMrFNG.jpg

Post match The Miz hits the stage and swears that he will regain his beloved 24/7 title (beloved … I thought he hated that belt? …. But wrestling!)

K8EmVCC.jpgQIwwitY.jpg

Backstage Alexa confronts Stacy Keibler – she looks like she’s about to say something catty but instead offers her hand – Stacy reluctantly accepts the handshake. Alexa says Stacy beat her fair and square but next time she wont be so lucky.

eVYBZjE.jpgMpN8uib.jpg

The IIconics have a short skit where they praise up each others skills and abilities in their own special self-deluded way. They end it with their IIconic pose despite supposedly being by themselves …. but wrestling.

rxPSSv4.jpgpEWxYHP.jpg

The Hardys cut one of their rambling insane promos about defending the Tag titles against the mighty Singh Brothers (mighty …. really …. Samir & Sunil Singh are smaller than a lot of the women on the roster) Matt finishes with “Nobody shall DELETE our reign!!!!” Vanguard 1 appears behind them hovering (Is the Drone on a PPA deal?).

1aETP20.jpggc3gRrb.jpg

2: Samoa Joe defeated Colt Cabana – They gave this a decent amount of time and let these two vets tell a nice in ring story. Joe is all stalking menace whilst Colt is playing up the slimy cowardly heel aspects of his current persona. The match ended with Joe hitting a Chimera-Plex and following it up with a Coquina Clutch for the win. This was a great quality bout between two guys who really know how to work a match like this.

rxPSSv4.jpgpEWxYHP.jpgOReCUi2.jpgHLow9NL.jpg

3: The Hardy Boys defeated The Singh Brothers to retain the SMACKDOWN Tag Titles– The Singh Brothers make the Hardys look like powerfully built monsters, that said they have excellent chemistry with each other and sell every move with real gusto. This was a fast based sprint of a match which was a nice change up after the last storytelling based match between Joe & Colt. Jeff Hardy took the win with his Swanton.

wLd4jkv.jpgRSA6F95.jpg

4: CM Punk defeated ‘Machismo’ Jay Lethal – So we got a total of 4 matches on RAW this week but when one of them is a match like this nobody could feel short changed. They gave two guys who seemed unlikely to ever be seen in a WWE ring just 3 months ago a full half hour to deliver an absolutely terrific match. Punk probably isn’t what he once was in the ring but tonight he showed that he’s far from a spent force and Lethal proved once and for all that he can hang at this level. Punk applied the Anaconda Vise and Lethal was forced to tap-out.

Thanks for everybody who made picks - I hope the shows are entertaining. Any feedback including negative is always appreciated (you learn from critiques). I'm not posting a Card for RAW as it's going to be Stephanie's first attempt at doing a show in the Japanese market and fans of the broader Japanese scene might enjoy the surprise appearances.

WWE RAW 14: Tokyo Japan

Pre -

Members of the WWE’s development roster who have a profile in Japan featured on this weeks RAW whilst many of RAW’s lower card were given the week off. Yosuke <3 Santa Maria, Eita Kobayashi & Tomahawk TT, Ayako, Risa Sera & Maya Yukiki, Happy Motel (Tetsuya Endo & Konosuke Takeshita), Toni Storm, Dakota Kai & Megan Kate, Crimson City Saga (Aleister Black & Zack Sabre Jr) defeated local talents

Asuka starts the show to a great crowd reaction she issues an open challenge for her title tonight and Meiko Satomura answers it.

WBrdybS.jpgUeU4gdx.jpg

Backstage special guests The Birds of Prey (Robbie Eagles and Will Osprey) are preparing for their RAW debut. The crowd gave a strong reaction at seeing the two men who are well known to NJPW fans.

The Shooting Party has an elaborate entrance – they are wearing Headgear reminiscent of the late great Vader’s Japanese gear which got a great reaction from the crowd. I’m not sure how American audiences will take to the three opening segments but the local Japanese crowd is having a ball with the fact that the WWE is clearly embracing Japanese wrestling culture tonight

IRv15mF.jpgmCh6fPZ.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/4zyp9Y3.jpgJdFXQFn.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

1: Shooting Party (Brock, Shelton, Haas) with Paul Heyman defeated Diego, Super Delfin & Akira Raijin – This was a solid opener where the Shooting Party manhandled their smaller opponents. Brock Lesnar sent Diego to Suplex City before nailing a F-5 for the victory.

4Dfo7AT.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

2: Kairi Sane defeated a local worker – Another solid bout where Kairi Sane was allowed to stretch her legs and show her in-ring skills before nailing an Insane Elbow for the victory.

WBrdybS.jpgUeU4gdx.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

3: Birds of Prey (Eagles & Osprey) def Junior Stars (Koji Kanemoto & Minoru Tanaka) – A fun showcase bout for the BoP against two well known and loved veterans of the Japanese scene. Osprey & Eagles both have pretty exciting skill-sets and rumour has it that members of the backstage creative team are very high on both of them seeing them as potential mega-stars. Eagles nailed a Warp 4.5 (450 splash) for the win.

qWKT0kY.jpgKt7F2UC.jpg

4: Asuka retained the RAW Womens over Meiko Satomura – They gave these ladies a long time in a match that could easily have been on a PPV. Meiko is a terrific worker and she brought the best out of Asuka who clearly revelled in being given the time and an opponent with the sort of skills to let her really show what she can do. Asuka applied the Asuka Lock onto Meiko who refused to tap for a long time before finally submitting to allow the champ to retain her title.

Jushin Liger cuts a short promo backstage

The Four Horsewomen cut a promo about how Asuka is lucky they are focussed on the MMA Horsewomen right now but it’s only a matter of time before one of them takes that belt from her.

yG0xl7T.jpg9oOv1uV.jpgbS8xAJ2.jpg

In ring Strong Style Samurai cut a promo – the crowd is excited to hear Nakamura speak and give him a great reaction – Nakamura has been teasing a full face turn for a while and he was definitely in face mode here.

yG0xl7T.jpg9oOv1uV.jpgbS8xAJ2.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

5: Strong Style Samurai (Shinsuke, Tozawa & KUSHIDA) defeated Kazushi Sakuraba, Tetsuya Bushi & Tank Nagai – A fun little bout where the SSS were allowed to showcase some flashy moves. Interesting fact Tank Nagai is the husband of Mio Shirai who has been working for the WWE on their pre-show matches recently. Nakamura with Kinshasa on Sakuraba for the victory

7f0n5dF.jpgOBSlYIK.jpgBiZtTZH.jpgMnr9au1.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

6: The 4 Horsewomen defeated Local talent – The local Joshi talent is pretty talented and that allowed the WWE to have the Horsewomen work with a lot more gusto than they often are allowed too. Bayley nails a Bayley to Belly for the win.

1WUVOfe.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

7: Jushin Thunder Liger defeated AKIRA – AKIRA had an off night and the two failed to click so this was a bit of a stinker. It gets a 2 and ½ purely on Liger’s ability and overness following his recent NJPW departure.

GLuuIk0.jpg1WUVOfe.jpg

Post match John Cena heads down the ramp -as Liger heads towards him Cena stops and bows respectfully – Liger returns the gesture. The crowd pops for it.

Hype for DoiYoshi’s challenge for the RAW Tag titles against Kevin & Sami in tonight's Main Event.

0fWqldX.jpgDCWvak2.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

8: Thunderstruck (Io Shirai & Mayu Iwatani) defeated Local Talent – Like most of the matches tonight against local workers this fell firmly into the 3 to 3 and a half star range. Mayu is good and has been working well in NXT but this match was very much about helping getting Io Shirai over with the WWE universe. Io nailed a Far East Destroyer for the win.

bZO8OJK.jpgeYkaxvE.jpg

9: Conor McGregor defeated Ultimo Dragon – Another solid bout saw McGregor manage to get a hard fought victory over the veteran technician.

Y0ZPJhe.jpgutD54Ep.jpgc2SqK7b.jpgnRSj35A.jpg

10: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn retained the RAW Tag titles over DoiYoshi (Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino) – The best match of the night was a high quality match where Doi & Yoshino brought plenty of high paced exciting offence that matched well with Owens and Zayn. This match was a blast and capped off a pretty entertaining experiment by the WWE, Owens hit a pop-up Powerbomb on Doi for the win.

I love reading this diary, I like how you have so many different wrestlers and people outside of Wrestling involved.

Keep up the good work buddy.

Jushin will have some involvement over the Mania weekend who he will face and whether he will be alone is still to be revealed but the magic 8 ball says Cena is unlikely. I had fun running the first WWE show in Japan and if you liked that you will probably love their first full blown tour there later in 2020.

Thanks for that. I try my best to make it a fun read.

I've enjoyed reading this diary also. Liger was a nice surprise. Any further plans for Katie Burchill (and dumb question but is she the same as Katie Lee Burchill from the terrible incest angle?)?

Yeah it's the same Katie Lea Burchill from that terrible angle. She's a free agent who I use when I hit that territory. I was tossing up between her, Melina and Stacy in the role used against Alexa Bliss. I don't have too many plans for her as I am already loaded up with women. I was using Katie in WS_X as technically she's German.

She's actually fairly talented and that was reflected in the mod but her age was problematic for any sort of long term plan. I went for Stacy because I always liked her. The whole idea was just to have a vet come back and because I have been having those girls beat vets and locals have one win a title. Just something unexpected but plausible. I wanted Alexa to lose that way because you can visualise her losing her mind and throwing a tantrum like a 3 year old when it happened which is totally in character for her.

I haven't watched WWE properly for about 20 years so will take your word on this. It does sound a plausible and engaging story line though. :)

Alexa Bliss is maybe 5'2 (at a push) she's a tiny little girl who is an ex competitive cheerleader. She's got great athletic skills and she's pretty but she also has that Mean Girls vibe to her. She plays a spoilt brat really well. when things don't go her way the toys come out of the playpen.

WWE Smackdown 14: Nassau Coliseum Uniondale, New York

Pre-Show: Basso Brothers, Mike Kanellis, Drew Gulak & Tony Nese, Lucha Brothers (Muerte & Phoenix), Chickbusters and Eric Young, Robert Roode & James Storm defeated local talent

1aETP20.jpgwLd4jkv.jpg

Samoa Joe wants a piece of CM Punk tonight.

GhH9Qf3.jpg

ijzlqqI.jpgnuePMhF.jpgpl9zoKe.jpgs8Ef80G.jpgqqiIso2.jpg

The Firefly Funhouse sees Bray in a particularly odd mood (which is saying something). He says that Seth stole something from him and that he needs to make sacrifices to get what he wants back.

WIXTu8Z.jpg

Professor Braun Strowman PH-D delivers a soliloquy about the travails of existence … who am I kidding … the big guy rambles on about giving someone these hands.

WIXTu8Z.jpg49y7blR.jpg

1: Braun Strowman retains the Intercontinental title from Konnor – Two technical masters put on a match reminiscent of Steamboat versus Savage, in that two men were in a wrestling ring and one of them one. It was a solid brawl but nothing special. Braun hit a reverse chokeslam for the win.

Mupn1Vr.jpgnuePMhF.jpgpl9zoKe.jpgs8Ef80G.jpgqqiIso2.jpgWIXTu8Z.jpg49y7blR.jpghJMQkBd.jpgE0VCOAY.jpg

The lights go red and the Family hit the ring and go on the attack. Braun manages to fight them off but the already beaten Konnor is easy prey. The Shield run down tot he ring but as they do the lights go out and there is a blood curdling scream. When the lights return both the Family and Konnor are gone. This might be old fashioned hokum but it was darn good old fashioned hokum and the crowd loved it.

cdBZgA3.jpgd3U6XXh.jpgY5p6BVE.jpgaB15yyh.jpg

The MMA Horsewomen (well mainly the popular one) talk about how they are going to destroy the 4 Horsewomen.

eVYBZjE.jpgMpN8uib.jpg

Backstage: The Iiconics cut one of their hilariously self deluded promos about how they are the dominant force in women's wrestling – it was especially funny coming straight after the MMA Horsewomen and their legit fighting skills. The IIconics are a gift though – Billie’s whiny nasally delivery and Peyton’s dazed ditzyness are a nice change of pace and style.

K8EmVCC.jpgQIwwitY.jpg

Elsewhere Backstage: Alexa Bliss is approached by Stacy Keibler – they engage in some fake pleasantries but the under-current of hostility is palpable.

cdBZgA3.jpgd3U6XXh.jpgY5p6BVE.jpgaB15yyh.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

2: MMA Horsewomen defeated local workers – Ronda Rousey is probably not happy working this sort of bout but she needs ring time to get the ringwork part of her game up to speed. She made one of the locals tap out.

BiZtTZH.jpgMnr9au1.jpgOBSlYIK.jpg7f0n5dF.jpgcdBZgA3.jpgd3U6XXh.jpgY5p6BVE.jpgaB15yyh.jpg

The 4 Horsewomen appear and attack the MMA Horsewomen, I have to question the quality of security employed by the WWE, their in-ring talent seems to be constantly under attack by intruders post match surely at this point the security people must be aware this is likely to happen and should be taking steps to prevent it happening. So the incompetent Security tries to break a brawl between 4 women … it doesn’t go great for the Security guys but eventually a semblance of order is restored.

eVYBZjE.jpgMpN8uib.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

3: The IIconics retained the WWE Womens Tag over local workers – The IIconics squashed some pretty locals and played to the crowd. They are getting pretty darn good at it and are starting to show more in ring flair too.

1aETP20.jpgwLd4jkv.jpg

The announce team hype tonight's Main Event between Samoa Joe and CM Punk.

GLuuIk0.jpgrK2pYvF.jpg

A backstage skit from John Cena and The Rock. I guess they called in Rocky as a place filler given Randy Orton’s mysterious disappearance for the next month.

CgjpBSz.jpgKYjLOY4.jpg9TMrFNG.jpgbb3XXJr.jpg

The Miz argues with the Kings of the Bar (as they are now calling themselves) – he wants his 24/7 title back. The Miz needs to face Kassius Ohno before they will give him a chance.

CgjpBSz.jpgbb3XXJr.jpg

4: The Miz defeated Kassius Ohno – A top quality fun match saw Ohno show-off his offensive skills. The Miz managed to get the win with a roll-up and got out of the ring before Cesaro and Sheamus could jump him. I guess someone has learned that post match is attack time.

wLd4jkv.jpg1aETP20.jpg

5: CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe – I could watch this match over and over. These two guys are fun to watch and can still bring it in the ring. Colt Cabana distracted Joe which allowed CM Punk to get an advantage and apply the Anaconda Vise. Joe refused to tap and the ref stopped the match when Joe passed out in the hold.

WWE RAW 15: Hawaii

Pre–Show: Meet and Greets with the fans

WINn3ao.jpgjvvS6R5.jpg

Steph & Regal are out hyping the Elimination Chamber saying they will be announcing the participants later tonight.

0fWqldX.jpgqWKT0kY.jpg

Backstage: Io and Asuka interact and the tension begins to escalate between the two of them.

W01uqN8.jpgJTPPI9z.jpg

Elsewhere backstage, DIY cut a promo about how they refuse to be forgotten about.

rK2pYvF.jpg

In ring …. Finally The Rock has come back to HHHHHAAAAAWWWWAAAIIIIIIII !!!!! He talks about how he loves his life making movies but part of him longs to get back into the ring and tonight he feels like laying the Smack down! He issues an open challenger

dQRYbge.jpg

Sonjay Dutt answers the challenge … yeah that’s a smart career move Sonjay.

rK2pYvF.jpgdQRYbge.jpg

1: The Rock defeated Sonjay Dutt – So Sonjay’s role in the WWE is to put people over and he’s pretty good at that and the crowd was just happy to see The Rock go through his signature shtick on his way to an inevitable victory. Rock Bottom, Peoples elbow – Pin. It was a nice little bonus match that didn’t overstay it’s welcome.

0fWqldX.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

2: Io Shirai defeated a Local Worker – Veteran indy worker Tracy Taylor did the honours in putting Io over here. A solid outing designed to make Io look strong.

W01uqN8.jpgJTPPI9z.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

3: DIY defeated Local Workers – This was meh … the locals failed to gel together and whilst DIY are good workers they don't really have a lot of traction on the Main Roster so far. I’m not even sure this made the 3 star level to be honest.

4Dfo7AT.jpgYXCGs7X.jpg

A backstage altercation between Kairi Sane and Taya Valkyrie escalates into a fight and needs to be broken up by Road Agents

yG0xl7T.jpgbS8xAJ2.jpg9oOv1uV.jpg2ZwdtCk.jpgJmLcpNn.jpgyWYomfd.jpg

Shinsuke & The Strong Style Samurai are out and they cut a promo about how they loved being back home in the home of Strong Style in Japan last week they are interrupted by the chant Lucha … Lucha …. LUCHA! Lucha House Party come out – we have a Six Man coming up.

4: Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik, Lince Dorado & Kalisto) defeated Strong Style Samurai (Shinsuke, Tozawa & KUSHIDA) – I am genuinely surprised by this result. The Samurai appeared to be on a roll and had been handling the luchadores pretty easily up till now and I figured this would be one last blow-off for this feud instead Kalisto nailed the Salida del Sol on Akira Tozawa and the win for his team.

4Dfo7AT.jpgYXCGs7X.jpg

5: Kairi Sane defeated Taya Valkyrie – This was a solid bout but like the rest of tonight so far came in at somewhere between the 3 and 3 and ½ star mark which is somewhat underwhelming for the WWE. That said they let the women work a proper match rather than a jiggle-fest so I shouldn’t complain. Kairi hit the Insane Elbow for the win.

GLuuIk0.jpg

John Cena cuts a Promo about how he intends to win the title at the Elimination Chamber.

MqptUjb.jpgo6XRDoo.jpg2Te4Sac.jpgEIPQ5Ov.jpg

Ever-Rise approach the Secret Society saying they need to prove themselves on RAW. Ali & Murphy say they know how they feel and that everybody deserves a chance and they will give them a match tonight.

gMpBTJC.jpgLjxJdej.jpg3RukPdE.jpg

In Ring: Kurt Angle re-unites with American Alpha and will now be their Manager.

LjxJdej.jpg3RukPdE.jpggMpBTJC.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

6: American Alpha def Local Workers – This was another squash filler match on a night with way too many of them for mine. The promo work tonight has been really strong but in-ring there's been nothing much of note.

eYkaxvE.jpgh9VXQNl.jpgqWKT0kY.jpgaNPKexI.jpgiEPPBF2.jpg8DUgGJe.jpg

We get short backstage promos for the United States, RAW Womens and WWE title matches later tonight – 2 of these matches should be really good the other has Zelina Vega in it. She worked the mic well but I cant imagine her and Asuka working.

Y0ZPJhe.jpgutD54Ep.jpg

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn talk about their work on the Unified Theory of Physics and how they are on the verge on solving the issues between the General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics … or perhaps they just talked about being RAW Tag champs. The work was strong here and was actually about the boys facing DoiYoshi at the Elimination Chamber.

h9VXQNl.jpgeYkaxvE.jpg

7: AJ Styles defeated Ultimo Dragon to retain the US title – Yayyyyyy an actual decent wrestling match. AJ and the veteran Dragon put on a nice little bout with lots of fun moves before an ending that saw AJ nail the Styles Clash to retain his title.

2Te4Sac.jpgEIPQ5Ov.jpgMqptUjb.jpgo6XRDoo.jpg

8: Secret Society def Ever-Rise – Parker and Martel have mainly been working B-Shows and the under-card since their call-up but they showed some promise here. It was a fun bout that saw Buddy Murphy nail the Murphy’s Law on Matt Martel for the victory.

iohQYmY.jpgWINn3ao.jpgh9VXQNl.jpg2Te4Sac.jpgEIPQ5Ov.jpgxBamVpF.jpgbZO8OJK.jpgB1IPD0D.jpg

Steph & Regal come out post match and announce AJ Styles will defend the United Stares title in a Elimination Chamber Match against both Secret Society members, Kofi Kingston, Conor McGregor and Daniel Bryan. That should be quite fun as all 6 men are pretty athletic and McGregor has a ton of experience inside a cage. The crowd seemed very happy as all 6 men faced off post announcement.

qWKT0kY.jpgaNPKexI.jpgnBohJeZ.jpg

9: Asuka retained the RAW Womens title over Zelina Vega – WTF!!!! Asuka and Zelina have wonderful chemistry … nobody could have predicted that one. It made this a lot of fun to watch. Zelina was all slimy cheating heel with her com padre Andrade doing some stellar work on the outside trying to distract the ref. Unusually the official was on the ball and caught Zelina several times. Andrade tripped Asuka and was sent to the back which left Zelina on her own and that led to the Asuka lock being applied about a minute later.

iohQYmY.jpgWINn3ao.jpgiEPPBF2.jpg8DUgGJe.jpgIRv15mF.jpgGLuuIk0.jpgcOatjiD.jpgacfCmt8.jpg

Steph & Regal announce that no matter who wins the WWE title match tonight both men will be in the Elimination Chamber match along with Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Finn Balor and Adam Cole. That’s an interesting mix with Cole’s recent feud with Cena and Brock and Rey’s ongoing issues already having a Cage bout at the Rumble. Balor and Dolph bring plenty of skill and speed to the mix. The crowd was pretty white hot for this announcement and the 6 men got into each others faces.

iEPPBF2.jpg8DUgGJe.jpgIRv15mF.jpg

10: Rey Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the WWE title when Brock attacked Rey – This was a nice little teaser for the Elimination Chamber with Dolph Ziggler in the unusual position of being the larger more powerful man in the match. It actually looked like we might see dolph Ziggle capture the title until Brock Lesnar hit the ring and Suplexed Rey. An angry Ziggler Superkicked Brock in the head.

iEPPBF2.jpg8DUgGJe.jpgIRv15mF.jpgGLuuIk0.jpgcOatjiD.jpgacfCmt8.jpg

Cena, Balor and Cole all hit the ring and the show ends with all 6 Elimination Chamber participants brawling. The last four matches really upped the in-ring quality of the show and the angles and mic work were on point tonight even if those first 6 matches were largely forgotten by the end of the show, well it's unlikely the Samurai are going to forget that defeat.
