Stephanie - The Princess Diaries

Recommended Posts

Good show man. Pretty happy to see Brock and Wyatt win though I was convinced MNM would go over. Any plans for them long term or just a nostalgia pop? Truth be told I'm not that fussed about Morrison but I did like Matthews, I mean, Mercury.

Thanks.

Morrison is a better long term option purely because Matthews is physically a bit limited - the ladder shot that hit him in the face is reflected in mod and his athleticism has declined. He has good psych and my plans for him are more as a long term RA option (probably in developmental) than a huge push for him per-se. As a team they have excellent chemistry which means they are a shot at a tag run - I am loaded for bear in the tag team department and that will only get better over the next month in game terms (contracts have been offered). It's weird because I only started doing a WWE game as a default when my old computer dies taking WS_X with it (for now - efforts will be made to get those files back) but I'm enjoying the complexity of trying to make the WWE work.

Oh with the NYE shows it's only 1 show (it was two in WS_X and I got the two mixed up in my head because I am old and easily confused).

4: Natalya defeated Local Talent – This was a shortish fast paced bout not a normal jigglefest – the local was announced as Catherine Power and was well known indy worker Cat Power who had enough skill to make this a pretty decent bout for a squash.

HZx5WRt.jpgTlc6ira.jpg

5: Naomi def Seleziya Sparx – Sparx is a good looking girl and it was said that her tag match with Scarlett Bordeuax went very well at Superstars. She was given some offence here and it’s likely she is going to be offered a deal based on her two showings.

6: Glorious def The Viking Raiders – Canada is always Bizzaro World when it comes to Canadian Heels – Glorious were heavily cheered. 1: SMACKDOWN TAG: The Hardy Boyz © vs Glorious vs The Revival

I want it to be the HArdys but backing Glorious here. Big push.

2: RAW TAG: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn © vs DIY

Champs retain

3: Colt Cabana vs Samoa Joe

This would be a huge highlight for me but if this was real WWE they'd give it 5 min top. Joe to win and elevate Colt with it.

4: Abigail vs Naomi

5: CM Punk vs Jay Lethal

Another huge match that I don't believe real WWE would capitalise on. Punk wins but both look good.

6: RAW Womens: Becky Lynch © vs Candice LaRae

7: SMACKDOWN Womens: Alexa Bliss © vs Natalya

8: The Usos vs The Fiend & The Acolyte

9: Womens Tag: The IIconics © vs The Beautiful People

Not sure if the BP have been brought in short term or to shake up the division. Too soon for the titles tough, I think.

10: The Family (Harper & Rowan) vs The Shield

Always liked the idea of Harper and Rowan... which I suppose makes one fan.

11: 24/7: The Miz © vs Dolph Ziggler

Never The Miz

12: Minnesota Stretching Crew (Brock Lesnar & Shelton Benjamin vs Secret Society

Always Brock

13: John Cena vs Randy Orton

No finish as a 30 minute chinlock causes every fan in attendance to leave.... sorry, wrong meeting.

The O.C def Ever-Rise & Velocity

The Undisputed Era def Sin Cara & Lucha House Party

Strong Style Samurai (Nakamura, Tozawa & KUSHIDA) def New Day

Sheamus & The Kings of Wrestling def Bobby Lashley & AOP

All four pre show bouts saw multi man bouts that put on pretty good entertainment for the crowd of 32000 who turned up for WWE’s Network only special event.

Hype Video for MACKDOWN TAG Triple threaten

rxPSSv4.jpgpEWxYHP.jpg5eCn9Is.jpgl6cPZi3.jpgYGgMClZ.jpgC6aVxnU.jpg

1: The Hardy Boyz defeated Glorious (Roode & Young) and The Revival to retain the SMACKDOWN Tag titles – Canada is always bizarro world for Canadian heels and the Glorious ones were heavily cheered. The Hardy Boyz had surprisingly captured the titles in the recent set of TV tapings and were on a mission to retain here. This was well and truly over 4 out of 5 stars as three really good tag teams went at it hard for 12 minutes in an exciting fast paced opener. Jeff Hardy hit a Swanton Bomb on Scott Dawson for the victory to see the Hardy’s retain their titles.

RAW Tag hype video

Y0ZPJhe.jpgutD54Ep.jpgFji0a7J.jpgmCyBHf6.jpg

2: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn defeated DIY to retain the RAW Tag title – Well one thing that’s certain about the Stephanie McMahon era of the WWE, the matches are rarely boring. It’s clear that if the guys have the skills she’s happy to let them go out there and decide what they want to do and how to do it in the time allowed. People are wrestling with a new found freedom and the results are clear to see. This was great and it may even have been slightly better than the hot opener. Owens hit a pop-up power-bomb on Gargano for the win.

Hype videos for Cena v Orton, Joe v Lethal, Punk v Cabana & Abigail v Naomi

1aETP20.jpggc3gRrb.jpg

3: Samoa Joe defeated Colt Cabana – Maybe I should just photocopy my impressions of WWE’s current output – two experienced and skilled hands came out and put on another quality bout in the 13 minutes allocated to them. Colt and Samoa Joe are an unusual match-up style wise but strangely it seemed to work here and if anything you could see a look of genuine joy on Joe’s face at being allowed to work a match with a slightly more comedic tone than usual for him.

qqiIso2.jpgHZx5WRt.jpg

4: Abigail defeated Naomi – So how to I describe this – one part jiggle-fest one part slasher film. Abigail spent the match stalking Naomi in and out of the ring like Naomi was a final girl and she was Michael Myers. Eventually Naomi turned and got the courage to put up a fight which was clearly a mistake as the artist formerly known as Rosemary destroyed the former Funkadactyl! A Skyward Slam finished off Naomi. In comparison to the previous three belts this was just okay.

wLd4jkv.jpgRSA6F95.jpg

5: CM Punk defeated Jay Lethal – It was interesting to see that Lethal came out in his non Machismo mode for this. It sent a message that this was a serious match. Punk may have lost a step from his peak but he’s still very good indeed and Lethal was clearly relishing the chance he’s been given on a larger stage. Another terrific exciting bout that saw Punk get the victory with the Go To Sleep.

Hype Videos for RAW, SMACKDOWN & Womens Tag matches

BiZtTZH.jpg6kBMlp3.jpg

6: Becky Lynch defeated Candice LaRae to retain the RAW Womens Title – They let Becky and Candice loose and they put on a high quality 13 minute match hit a lot more intensity than anyone really expected. Becky locked in the Dis-Arm-Her for the victory.

K8EmVCC.jpgowKYicW.jpg

7: Alexa Bliss defeated Natalya to retain the SMACKDOWN Womens Title – Natlaya was way over with her home fans and they teased a title change a number of times in the match before Alexa managed to get the win with a DDT.

Video hyping The Family versus the Usos & The Shield matches hype

Mupn1Vr.jpgnuePMhF.jpgzGQCUO5.jpgh2BkneY.jpg

8: The Fiend & The Acolyte defeated The Usos – The show so far has been fun and this continued that vibe. Both sets of brothers have great natural chemistry with their partners and Bo’s presence adds an element of doubt into the result of any match because he has a reputation as a jobber to the stars despite clear signs of a rise in status since his turn. Abigail came into play here throwing some sort of powder into Jimmy Uso’s eyes allowing Bo … sorry the Acolyte to get the roll-up pin. Every men’s match tonight has been a 4 star exciting contest designed to not overstay it’s welcome but each has been different enough to the others to hold the crowds interest.

eVYBZjE.jpgMpN8uib.jpgCf4cPa2.jpgVfL1jMk.jpg

9: The IIconics retained the WWE Womens title over The Beautiful People – So what happens when you put two teams of natural bitchy heel women in a ring and let them unleash their full bitchiness on each other – 9 minutes of thoroughly entertaining bitchiness. It was only a matter of which team would successfully cheat to win and this time it was the Australians.

eVYBZjE.jpgMpN8uib.jpgCf4cPa2.jpgVfL1jMk.jpg

Post match – The two teams continue to fight post match – clothing is ripped – there appeared to be a wardrobe malfunction which will have teenage boys everywhere swearing they saw one of Velvet Sky’s nipples (You cant in case you were wondering and planning to stop frame the sequence). The crowd were ecstatic and chanted “Let Them Fight” as security pulled the cat-fighters apart. I am a little ashamed to admit that just like everyone else I was thoroughly entertained by it.

hJMQkBd.jpgE0VCOAY.jpge5xna9v.jpgs8Ef80G.jpg

10: The Shield defeated The Family (Harper & Rowan) by DQ – So as I’ve said the men's matches so far have all been 4 out of 5 star bouts that would please most any fan anywhere in the world – this … well this was much better. The career resurgence of Harper and Rowan is a sight to see and they both clearly feel empowered and unburdened – neither man has to worry about mic work or motivation anymore – they are silent ruthless emotionless monsters bent on inflicting pain on their opponents. They dominated the bout here brutalising Seth Rollins (whose selling was exceptional) and when Rollins broke free and made the hot tag the crowd popped hard for Reigns clearing the ring. The lights flickered and the Acolyte and The Fiend hit the ring which led to a DQ.

e5xna9v.jpgs8Ef80G.jpgMupn1Vr.jpgnuePMhF.jpghJMQkBd.jpgE0VCOAY.jpgzGQCUO5.jpgh2BkneY.jpg

Post match the Family are laying into The Shield – The Usos come down to even the numbers and all 8 men engage in a wild brawl – Security comes out to stop it – they fail – more Security – more failure – the lights flicker and go out and when they come back on the Family have disappeared. Sure it’s hokey but wrestling is built on hokum and the Family’s pseudo supernatural appearances and disappearances add just the right amount of old school Undertaker style mystery to make them feel special.

Videos hyping Minnesota Stretching Crew vs Secret Society, The 24/7 title match and Cena vs Orton

CgjpBSz.jpg8DUgGJe.jpg

11: The Miz retained the 24/7& title over Dolph Ziggler – Another 13 minute long fast paced 4 star banger where two skilled guys were obviously told to go out there and have fun. I don’t think anyone really expected a title change here – Dolph Ziggler’s story at the moment seems to be that of a guy with the ability to be a top level guy but without a direction (which pretty much sums up his career to be honest). The Miz meanwhile seems to be revelling in poking fun at his own title (the ugly, ugly belt) his sarcastic dismissive treatment of the title is juxtaposed against his clear unwillingness to lose it. Belts in wrestling are often props and the 24/7 title couldn’t be more meaningless if it was made of cardboard and spray painted gold & green (I’m not 100% sure it isn’t made of cardboard to be honest) and yet seeing these two tear the house down and seeing the Miz clutch the belt to his chest after hitting a Skull Crushing Finale made me finally understand what they are doing here. The belt has become a modern era TV title – it’s a belt that is unlikely to be held by anyone for a long time (as they are defending it across both brands) but instead it is being used to give people a logical reason to fight even though the prize itself largely worthless and any title reign wont really be remembered for very long. If this is what we can expect from 24/7 title clashes going forward then long live the hideously ugly and worthless 24/7 title.

12: Secret Society defeated Minnesota Stretching Crew – Fast paced – tick, 13 minutes – tick, Entertaining – tick, 4 out 5 stars – tick! Ali and Murphy are in the midst of a big push and are showing real signs of being great, their chemistry is excellent and their in ring work is top quality. Shelton & Brock also have excellent chemistry as a team. They let these 4 loose and obviously just told them to do whatever they felt worked best. It was probably down a little on psychology - lets face it Brock is a wrecking Ball not a Scalpel but that sense that this was a full tilt fight rather than a choreographed routine lent an air of authenticity to the action. The ending saw Ali dive from the top turnbuckle onto Brock on the outside taking both men out and Murphy then nailed a Murphy’s Law on Shelton Benjamin for the win.

GLuuIk0.jpgsiN2L1q.jpg

13: John Cena defeated Randy Orton – I have to admit I wasn’t looking forward to this – we’ve seen Orton and Cena a bunch of times over the years with a lot more on the line – this seemed to be a case of putting the two old stager’s into a throwaway bout where they would go through a few of their greatest hits and given the quality of what had come before I wasn’t really expecting anything special. Half an Hour later Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on Orton and 32000 people gave the two men a standing ovation. It’s easy to forget just how smooth Orton can be when he’s on his game or how well Cena can engage a crowd in the story being told but then you see this match and you realise how underappreciated these two really are. It was the last match of 2019 and whilst I’m certain that one of Kazuchika Okada’s 5 star bangers will win match of the year (there are at least 4 strong contenders in the last 2 months alone) this was clearly the best match of the year for the WWE and for any fed outside New Japan and I’d be putting it in the top 10 for sure.

Hope everyone enjoyed the show - it was unexpected to me that every men's match was an 80+ result. Becky & Candice was non eye candy and scored just under 80. The Orton/Cena match was the 7th highest rated match of the year behind 6 NJPW matches (even with another 2 NJPW matches).

I wont bother giving top 500 rankings because with only 2 months of game time the results aren't a good indicator as it's based on championship matches and less than 500 people got ratings meaning people with belts in smaller feds get overrated and excellent workers in large feds who didn't get a title match in the short period get no rating at all.

Stephanie McMahon woke with a start - she was breathing hard and covered with a sheen of sweat - Her husband looked at her with concern

Trips "What's wrong honey?"

Stephanie "It was the weirdest dream ever"

Trips "Weirder than that one about you and Savage?"

Stephanie shudders "Yeah"

Trips "That's bad ...can you remember it?"

Stephanie ""Bits and pieces - I was dressed like Alice in Wonderland"

Trips "I can imagine that"

Steph "Paul … it wasn't a sex dream"

Paul "Sorry … I can buy that outfit for you though"

Steph "Uh …. sure … whatever …. so I was dressed like Alice and a playing card ran up to me"

Paul "Cards don't run"

Steph "It's a dream Paul - it doesn't use normal logic"

Paul "Like Vince Russo's booking"

Steph "Exactly it makes no sense …. so the Ace of Hearts runs towards me but it catches on Fire and burns to the ground and I look up and then it starts to rain"

Paul "That's bad"

Steph "No it was good rain y'know like when you are really hot and get a nice summer shower and don't mind getting wet"

Paul "I like it when you're wet … remember that tight white t-shirt you used to wear"

Steph "Paul try to keep your mind off sex for 5 seconds"

Paul "I'll give you 4"

Steph "Then there were 4 Women on Horseback and then 4 more Women ride towards them and started fighting"

Paul "What is it with chicks and horses?"

Steph "Then there was the Sun rising over the hills and it felt warm on my wet skin … do not make a sexual comment Paul … and then I heard Thunder and it was night and it had been day just before that and there were two knights with swords and shields coming towards me and then there were three of them and then there was a dawn and it was all golden and I was like Joan of Arc leading a huge army and crushing my enemies"

Paul "Cool"

Steph "And then my dad killed Shelton Benjamin"

Paul "Not cool"

Steph "No not cool at all and then I woke up … what do you think it means?"

Paul "You want to dress up like Alice in Wonderland and you and me have a shower together"

Steph " …. You aren't helping"

Paul "Sorry I kind of zoned out about the time you mentioned being in a wet T-Shirt"

Steph "That was you"

Paul "I was in a wet T-Shirt?"

Steph "Arghhhh …. I have no idea what it meant"

Paul "Well it was probably nothing … unless it was some sort of ominous foreshadowing of things to come"

Steph "Oh my …. my dad is going to kill Shelton Benjamin!"

Enjoyed New Years Evil.

The end of year awards feel about right.

So Vince Mcmahon versus Shelton at Mania in a death match?

4 Horsewomen is already obvious like Josh Spicer said

The Ace of Hearts on fire is a mystery as is rain making it better.

6 man belt for the two knights becoming 3?

Expansion for the huge army and Joan of Arc bit.

1: Secret Society defeated Ever-Rise – This was a fairly short sharp pseudo squash. The former 3.0 were given a few offensive spots and looked pretty decent when given a chance but essentially this was about giving the Secret Society some momentum back. Ali hit his 054 finisher on Martel for the win

2: The O.C (AJ, Anderson & Gallows ) defeated Lucha House Party – A slow paced methodical bout full of rest holds and submission attempts – who am I kidding – the Luchadores brought it out fast with their high octane offence while the O.C tried to ground them. It was a lot of fun to watch. AJ nailed a Pele Kick on Lince Dorado following up with a Styles Clash for the win.

JONALeS.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

3: Ember Moon defeated (Local Talent) – Ember Moon brought her own unique from of jiggling back to RAW taking on a local talent announced as Riea (Goth based Riea Von Slasher) . It was solid but uninspiring.

cOatjiD.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

4: Finn Balor defeated a Local Talent - The local was big man Cremator Von Slasher and that allowed Finn to show his abilities to take down a much larger opponent. He took the big mans legs out from under him and then worked over the knees keeping him down before delivering a Coup de Grace foot stomp finisher. It was okay but it’s hard to get too excited about a squash like this.

The 4 Horsewomen say they respect the O.C. but everyone knows who the real most dominant force in wrestling is. Taya Valkyrie comes out and says she has dominated everywhere she has been and if Becky wants to prove she’s a fighting champ she’ll defend against her tonight. Asuka comes out and says she should be number 1 contender so she should face Becky – Bayley chimes in saying she’s got nothing to do tonight and if Asuka wants a fight she’s more than happy to beat her. Serena Deeb and Zelina Vega come out and say that since Charlotte & Sasha aren’t booked they want to prove themselves against them tonight.

qWKT0kY.jpgMnr9au1.jpg

5: Asuka defeated Bayley – A good quality fast paced bout saw Asuka take control after nailing Bayley with a spin kick before locking in the Asuka Lock making Bayley tap out. The action was good but the crowd still seems happier to cheer jiggle-fests rather than better fare like this.

OBSlYIK.jpg7f0n5dF.jpgjQ01OPC.jpgaNPKexI.jpg

6: Charlotte & Sasha def Zelina Vega & Serena Deeb – Case in Point, this was in no way better wrestling wise than the last bout, Zelina Vega tries here heart out but skills wise she’s not exactly Ricky Steamboat – what she is though is sexy and in a jiggle-fest like this that's a huge advantage. The four good looking girls got a great reaction from the crowd. Sasha Banks locked the Bank Statement on Serena Deeb for the win.

BiZtTZH.jpgYXCGs7X.jpg

7: Becky Lynch retained the RAW Womens title over Taya Valkyrie – Maybe I dismissed the crowds willingness to embrace quality Womens wrestling too soon as they popped hard for this fast paced exciting match-up. Taya has had a lot of experience in feds like AAA and IMPACT and has the skills to put on a top quality match. Becky eventually hit a Bexploder Suplex and followed it up with the Manhandle Slam before locking in a Dis-arm-her forcing Taya to tap out.

BiZtTZH.jpgcdBZgA3.jpgd3U6XXh.jpgY5p6BVE.jpgaB15yyh.jpgMnr9au1.jpgOBSlYIK.jpg7f0n5dF.jpg

Post Match Becky is celebrating her hard fought win when the MMA Horsewomen (Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke) hit the ring and attack her. Bayley, Charlotte & Sasha run out for the save and all 8 women brawl wildly – Security tries to separate them as the crowd chants “Let them Fight”.

utD54Ep.jpgY0ZPJhe.jpgY2z7qMM.jpgoyNZXxI.jpg

8: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn def The Undisputed Era (O’Reilly & Fish) to retain the RAW Tag titles – A nice defence for Kevin & Sami against some quality opposition in a fast paced bout with a great crowd reaction ending the WWE’s first show of 2020 on a high note. Kevin Owens delivered a Stunner to Bobby Fish for the win.

1: Cesaro, Sheamus & Kassius Ohno defeated R-Truth, Konnor & Viktor – Sometimes I like to write that something unexpected happened in the match write-ups like R-Truth and the Ascension winning but lets face it that was not believable here and hell has not frozen over, those three were here as glorified cannon fodder. Interestingly the Ascension appeared to acknowledge that fact and refused to tag in hen Truth needed it jumping off the ring apron and heading to the back at the 75 minute mark allowing Sheamus, Cesaro and Kassius Ohno to triple team R-Truth for another three minutes before Ohno hit the KO (discus elbow smash) to finish off the hapless R-Truth.

Perhaps it’s just the prospect of matches involving DanaMella & the Beautiful People or bouts between King Corbin & Braun Strowman and Elias and the Miz that has me mildly annoyed.

WIXTu8Z.jpgmaaWIjw.jpg

3: Braun Strowman retained the Intercontinental over King Corbin – Sigh …. So two big guys with the psychological skills of the average bunny rabbit are put into a wrestling ring … it was a brawl, plain and simple and Braun eventually choke-slammed Corbin and retained his title. I was more entertained by Bambi jiggling earlier in the show and I’m not exactly a fan of the mindless jiggle-fests. It was solid enough I guess.

4: The Beautiful People defeated local workers – Speaking of mindless jiggle-fests … this was both mindless and a jiggle-fest. I understand the need to build up the Beautiful People and their brand of jiggling is mildly entertaining (especially their entrance). Love finished off nameless jobber 1 about 9 minutes in most of those 9 minutes involved Velvet and Angelina alternating between sexily flirting with the crowd and bitchily destroying their victims.

5: The Miz retains the 24/7 title over Elias – I have been a little dismissive of the matches tonight even though none of them was actually bad in and of themselves but this was different and was an absolute banger. 7: The Fiend retained the WWE Universal title over Curtis Axel – So if 3 months ago people told you Curtis Axel would be involved in an early January candidate for match of the year you would have laughed. It wont be Match of the Year of course as Okada isn’t involved and this isn’t NJPW but it was definitely a good early marker that others will strive to out-do. The build-up to this match worked and the two guys gave us a frantic sprint of a match that made it look like Axel was fighting for his life and perhaps Bo’s soul. Bo … sorry the Acolyte jumped on the ring Apron allowing Abigail to hit a low blow on Axel and the Fiend then applied the Mandible Claw.

WWE Raw : Maverik Center West Valley City Utah, 12600 att sell out,

Pre-show: New California Dolls (Cheerleader Melissa & Chelsea Diamond) won a match this was apparently a tryout match for Diamond, Serena Deeb & Taya Valkyrie, Mickie James & Zelina Vega, Ember Moon & Candice LaRae, Kabuki Warriors all defeated Local Talents

The Shooting Party are in ring – Paul talks about his clients. Daniel Bryan comes out and heads to t he ring says Paul and his goons are just mindless bullies – Bryan says he grew up as a small kid for his age and he’s had to deal with people like the Shooting Party his whole life but he knows how to deal with bullies by knocking them down on their ass. The Shooting Party move to surround Bryan but the Secret Society run down tot he ring and the two sides begin to brawl. When Security pulls the men apart William Regal comes out and makes a 6 man match for tonight's Main Event.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins are in ring and they cut a promo about how they are sick of being seen as a joke and issue an open challenge – Cain Velasquez and Rey Mysterio come out and say they respect Hawkins & Ryder for being willing to face anyone but that might be a mistake too and accept the challenge.

YQWfIJS.jpgiEPPBF2.jpgk6v9GWz.jpgcAHLOoT.jpg

1: Cain Velasquez & Rey Mysterio defeated Hawkins & Ryder – So when this started I don’t think anyone expected very much from this match, we have been taught to expect little from Hawkins & Ryder and Cain Velasquez is still very inexperienced as a professional wrestler – then the match happened. It’s been a long time since Hawkins & Ryder looked this good as they targeted the inexperienced Velasquez and worked him over with a series of fluid double teams. Eventually Cain managed to power out of the corner and make the hot tag to Rey who proceeded to clean house sending Ryder to the outside and nailing the 619 on Hawkins for the win. It was a really well worked match and the crowd loved Rey’s finishing sequence.

The 4 Horsewomen address last weeks attack by the MMA Horsewomen and swear revenge. The MMA Horsewomen appear and Ronda Rousey say that in a real fight we all know who is going to win.

5rUCuku.jpgutD54Ep.jpg

2: John Morrison defeated Sami Zayn – A good quality fast paced match saw John Morrison get a somewhat upset win over one half of the Tag champs with a Starship Pain.

SO9HcUc.jpgY0ZPJhe.jpg

3: Joey Matthews defeated Kevin Owens – They gave this match a decent amount of time to tell a story which was a good idea. Joey Matthews has lost a bit of his athleticism over the years but he’s a very smart wrestler and he and Kevin Owens were able to put to give the crowd a match with plenty interesting ebbs and flows. Matthews got a fairly major upset when he got the win thanks to a roll-up with a handful of tights. MNM certainly seem to now be the number 1 contenders for the Tag titles.

7f0n5dF.jpgMnr9au1.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

4: Boss & Hug Connection defeated Local Workers – Sasha and Bayley squashed a couple of locals. It was okay and the crowd liked seeing Sasha and Bayley but this sort of match rarely gets me too excited.

h9VXQNl.jpgcOatjiD.jpg2tTJyaO.jpgBWJb56H.jpgxBamVpF.jpgebZPdoF.jpgD4UUEj7.jpgSq1e4vn.jpg

The O.C. are out and talk about the New Day – The New day come out and respond – the two groups argue back and forth. William Regal comes out and makes a match between AJ & Finn and Xavier Woods and Big E and a United States title defence for Kofi against Karl Anderson.

h9VXQNl.jpgcOatjiD.jpgebZPdoF.jpgD4UUEj7.jpg

5: AJ Styles & Finn Balor defeated New Day (Xavier & Big E) – This was a good quality match between 4 men who seem to be enjoying the new less restrictive style of WWE booking. They were able to work with the natural flow of the match and all 4 understood how best to make it work. Big E ran amok near the end and looked to have set up the win when he tagged Xavier Woods who did a Limit Break (ropewalk diving elbow drop) on Balor Luke Gallows distracted the ref allowing AJ Styles (who wasn’t the legal man) to enter the ring and nail a Pele on Woods and make the pin. Wrestling officials need guide dogs and white canes sometimes.

BiZtTZH.jpgOBSlYIK.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

6: Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair defeated Local workers – Becky & Charlotte played to the crowd before completing a squash on a couple of locals. Becky & Charlotte are super over at this point.

2ZwdtCk.jpgyG0xl7T.jpg

Kalisto and Shinsuke Nakamura argue over what style is better Lucha Libre or Strong Style! I kind of liked that they appear to be basing a wrestling feud on philosophical differences about wrestling styles rather than the usual nonsense often used to drive these things.

CgjpBSz.jpgTDphCLg.jpg

The Miz talks about how he loves his baby – Maryse smiles broadly – Miz kisses the ugly 24/7 belt – Maryse does not look pleased and slaps him saying he has a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters and not to get too caught up with that green and gold piece of crap – Miz stutters an apology. Miz + Maryse = Comedy Gold sometimes and this unexpected turn of events actually worked really well.

7: Kofi Kingston defeated Karl Anderson to retain the United States title – The rest of New Day and the O.C. had been banned from ringside by Regal to avoid any interference. So if the O.C. was the Beatles then Karl Anderson is Ringo. Ringo is absolutely fine but when someone asked if Ringo was one of the worlds great drummers the answer was that he wasn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles (the correct answer is Paul – the answer to who was the best at any instrument is always Paul). Luke Gallows is probably chuffed that he would be considered the George. Anderson is a solid worker though and he and Kofi worked a really nice match before Kofi eventually nailed Anderson with the Trouble in Paradise to retain the United States title. Karl Anderson will have to console himself that he still has his Hot Asian Wife (his term not mine).

B1IPD0D.jpgEIPQ5Ov.jpg2Te4Sac.jpgmCh6fPZ.jpgIRv15mF.jpgbZO8OJK.jpg

8: Daniel Bryan, Ali & Buddy Murphy defeated Shooting Party by DQ (Brock, Conor & Shelton) – A terrific Main Event saw both sides go at it hard in a short sharp match (lets face it Brock is in the match so it was unlikely to be anything else). Daniel Bryan locked in the Yes Lock on Shelton Benjamin for the win.

I'll be posting the rest of the shows leading up to the Rumble in a couple of days. I haven't posted cards because a lot of what's happening is about setting up the Road to Wrestlemania and the cards are very much structured to build that and the Rumble up.

Any feedback is always appreciated.

Backstage The Shield, Naomi and The Usos welcom Jimmy and Jey’s dad Rikishi who is visiting. The Shield say they need to go as they have a match up next.

E0VCOAY.jpghJMQkBd.jpguw7aeG8.jpg49y7blR.jpg

1: The Shield defeated The Ascension – There was once a time where the Ascension were a dominant force on NXT and looked likely to have a good career once called up tot eh Main Roster – the highlight of their time on the Main Roster is a couple of hilarious skits in Southpaw- it’s a shame they are damaged goods because based on this match alone you could see how good they actually are. The result of this match was never really in doubt but Konnor & Viktor actually have decent brawling skills and they match up really well with the Shield. It was a fast fun brawl which did it’s job of getting the crowd pumped.

MpN8uib.jpgOEL21vh.jpglhEXXjw.jpg3B41NCc.jpg

2: The IIconics retain the WWE Womens Tag over Katarina Waters & Melina Perez – So the Iiconics took on two former Main Roster performers in Melina and Katarina who both still look good and have the kind of performance skills that make a match like this work. It was fun. Billie & Peyton are working a lot of matches and their skills are clearly improving in leaps and bounds. Backstage rumours say that a lot of Road Agents say Peyton could be a huge star given the right handling.

Firefly Funhouse – Bray rambles on about how it’s important to embrace your Family and awkwardly hugs Abigail and The Acolyte. Tonight he was touched to see the Uso’s embrace their father and he wants to reach out to them – tonight his Family wants to embrace the Uso’s Family.

HZx5WRt.jpgzGQCUO5.jpgh2BkneY.jpgqic2jaH.jpg

Cut to backstage where the Uso’s Naomi and Rikishi react tot he Funhouse showing on a Monitor.

Jimmy “That sounded ominous”

Jey “Yep … some craps going down”

Naomi “We need to take it to them”

Rikishi “Bing it on … I’m ready”

The others look at the ageing Rikishi with looks of concern. (Lets face it – this is wrestling and if Rikishi doesn’t get beaten up tonight we would all be shocked)

CgjpBSz.jpgTDphCLg.jpg55Hxw4q.jpgMHYGTqI.jpg

Miz & Maryse talk about last weeks match with Elias – Maryse is still not particularly happy about Miz getting brained with the guitar nor is she happy about Miz’s love for the ugly, ugly belt. Cut to in ring where Elias is about to perform when Mojo Rawley comes out and says that nobody wants to hear his off key singing and high school student level guitar strumming and that he saw last week just how much of an easy-beat Elias is.

55Hxw4q.jpgMHYGTqI.jpg

3: Elias defeated Mojo Rawley – RIP Mojo Rawley – Elias killed him in ring and then post match nailed him in the head with a guitar shot. It was a squash.

HZx5WRt.jpgqqiIso2.jpg

4: Abigail defeated Naomi – Abigail is very much basing her in ring game around early Undertaker – she does the slow Michael Myers style walk and stalk of her prey and no-sells most offence as if she’s an unstoppable unfeeling monster. Naomi brought a fiery determination to her game but the story here was very much about her taking on an unstoppable force and losing.

e5xna9v.jpgs8Ef80G.jpgnuePMhF.jpgqqiIso2.jpgHZx5WRt.jpg

Post match the Family hit the ring and grab Naomi – The Acolyte calls out the Uso’s and Rikishi saying they want to show them the Family’s love.

e5xna9v.jpgs8Ef80G.jpgnuePMhF.jpgqic2jaH.jpgzGQCUO5.jpgh2BkneY.jpg

5: The Family (The Acolyte, Rowan & Harper) defeated Rikishi & The Usos – This was kind of fun. Rikishi isn’t really capable of much in ring at this point but his selling and reactions are still pretty fantastic. Rowan and Harper are doing very much the same gimmick as Abigail – remorseless monsters while the Acolyte is channelling early Randy Orton all coiled menace and sneak attacks. His Bo-Dog on Rikishi got the win.

Post match Bray in Fiend mode attacks with the Mandible Claw on Jimmy. The rest of the Family are working over Jey – The Shield run down for the save … the lights flicker and go off. By the time they come back on the Family has done their disappearing act.

The Cowboy James Storm appears and cuts a short promo about how it’s taken a long time for him to get here but now that he’s here he’s going to damn well take his chance.

5eCn9Is.jpgDklBKbV.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg2oG9qTy.jpg

6: Beer Money defeated Local Workers (Los Luchas Espectaculares) – The locals were west coast staples Zokre & Phoenix Star who are a pretty decent veteran luchadore tag team. Beer Money clicked perfectly and with all 4 workers working so well this match was elevated well above the average debut squash. Beer Money hit their classic DWI (Drinking Whilst Investing) finisher which looks as great as ever.

YVJFZRC.jpgGLuuIk0.jpg

When we come back from a break King Corbin is in ring he calls out John Cena and the two go back and forth in a segment that worked remarkably well.

GLuuIk0.jpgYVJFZRC.jpg

7: John Cena defeated King Corbin – So two master technicians worked their magic here … just kidding – tonight was SMACKDOWN’s tribute to old school brawling and this was a perfectly acceptable high quality fast paced brawl. Corbin has a bit of X-Pac heat but in ring he’s really not that bad in this sort of bout. Cena adjusted his attitude for the win.

siN2L1q.jpgGLuuIk0.jpg

Charles Robinson raises John Cena’s hand and … RKO out of nowhere from Randy Orton. The show ends with Randy doing his pose on the turnbuckles.

Great to see James Storm get a WWE run.

Loved joshbrady91 agreeing with Adam Cole

Yeah Storm is a personal favourite of mine.

As for Cena - he was set as the figurehead and it takes time to build someone up to replace him. I'm trying to work a few guys up to be viable replacements but who ends up replacing him will probably be a shock to most people - I certainly didn't expect it when I started this.
