Cheickna Doorson, 6'6", 227, Freshman, Cary, North Carolina Freshman wing with some offensive talent and nice size. He doesn't defend much and only okay on the glass. He won't play at all this year, barring injuries, but could play an important role next year with all of the seniors graduating. Make the NCAA tournament and upset the 6 seed in Tulane before playing Syracuse tough for 30 minutes (and leading with 11 minutes left) before falling apart down the stretch. I'm anticipating some really solid job offers, but with the conference POTY returning and a really nice recruiting class coming in, I'll try to resist that unless I just can't turn it down. We had a lot of guys really shoot the ball well, and we played great on both sides of the ball. We lose a great backcourt in Sharp and Martinez, but we have a great recruiting class coming in, but we'll see what kind of offers I get. The freshman Diarra certainly helped that this year, but Sharp was excellent for 3 seasons as a starter, increasing his points substantially each year, topping out at 11.5 Leaves Campbell as the all time assists leader and 2nd in the Big South. Emmett14 Posted July 19, 2020 Author Share Posted July 19, 2020 1972-73 Season Recap Three straight tournament appearances, which is a pretty remarkable accomplishment, if I say so myself. However, the Big South is really a putrid conference and should I ever leave, there will be a major step up in competition. Of course, I say that, and I've yet to win an outright regular season championship. We did a great job blocking shots and turning teams over, which is a first for a Charlie Pinchuk team. Doorson came off the bench most of the year, before an Anderson injury changed that. Doorson is likely to remain in the starting lineup next year. We lose to an ultra talented Georgia Tech team in the first round as a 14 seed. We play with them for 20 minutes, and they then kicked into a gear we didn't have. We lose three guys from the rotation this year, but none of them are irreplaceable. If I find the perfect job to take, I'd leave, but I really like what I'm bringing back and a particular recruit makes me think we could be a team that has a legit chance at a decent run in the tournament.
