No Ordinary Men [CVerse]

Been reading from the start. Good stuff. Just a few questions because I'm curious.

What's the rest of the world like? Anything notable? Whom has surprised you most in terms of performance or character? Any workers that are major disappointments to you so far?

The rest of the world has been evolving nicely. The movement of Frehely to SWF and Remo to USPW was a big surprise. El Leon has also joined USPW -- giving them even more fire power. Company positioning have stayed pretty much where they were at the start.

As far as who as surprised me or disappointed me, that's a tough one! The Canadian Blonds have been surprisingly good for our size in what they've done. I didn't expect Conner to have consistently solid segments like he has had. I was really disappointed that both Brazzle and Chee retired at the same time and that I couldn't talk either of them out of it. I was hoping I could get them for a solid year so I'd have some time to build a female face, but c'est la vie.

<em>Ali just lost to Threepwood, the last time we saw Acid he was losing to one of your guys much lower down the card. Tbh from a "sporting" stand point I don't see how either have earned a spot in what I assume will be an eventual triple threat and if they lose here their credibility is gone, especially Ali. Plus Fighting Irish haven't teamed together for like a decade if I remember correctly so Tubbs taking the fall here and then going back to New York is fine.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Saturday Week 3, December 2020

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

71 people in attendance (Same as last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Welcome back to Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. Tonight is Christmas Clash and what a show we have for you. I’m joined in the broadcast booth by Mark Hyatt -- whose mama bought him an entire polyester factory for the holiday.

Hyatt, “Well you get better deals that way, Marv.”

Earnest, “Maybe. I wouldn’t know. What I do know is that we have a blockbuster line up tonight. In our main event, The Fighting Irish reunite to face the team of Sayeed Ali and Acid. Sayeed Ali posted a lengthy video on YouTube that we could not link on our website because of the language used -- but in that video he said that Conner Threepwood cheated in their singles match. He said Threepwood didn’t give him a fair opportunity at the championship -- just like he didn’t give Acid a fair opportunity at the championship and tonight they’re going to take that out on Conner and his partner. I have to say, I think their logic is flawed. Those were both incredibly fair matches and I think Ali is just griping to gripe.”

Hyatt, “Of course you’d say that Marv. You’re firmly in Conner Threepwood’s corner. You’re a fan boy of his and you don’t understand that Conner Threepwood didn’t defend the championship in a fair way. He never has! I am looking forward to seeing him and Crockett Tubbs get what they deserve.”

Earnest, “I’d expect nothing less from you. Also tonight, for the first time ever the World Women’s Championship is on the line as Electric Dreamer comes to CWI for the first time to defend against our Women’s Champion, Steph Blake. American Gold will take on the Dirty White Boys and Chris Caulfield is here! All of this action is coming up so let’s go to Steffi Chee ringside to start us off.”

Matt Blackburn versus The Masked Mauler VII

The opening match of the final show of 2020 pit two youngsters that have had a rough year. Neither man has really excelled so far. Blackburn has been very busy working for PGHW and the Mauler has looked to try and get his career going. In this match, both men looked good. Blackburn has some natural charisma that comes through was he’s working and The Mauler seems like he may one day be a solid talent but that day is not today. They went back and forth through the match before The Mauler hit Blackburn with a piledriver and that was it.

In a decent match, The Masked Mauler VII defeated Matt Blackburn in 6:51 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Steffi Chee is standing in the ring and awaiting the arrival of the Hardcore American himself, Chris Caulfield. Caulfield retired from active competition in the sport and since then he has been working for the COTT as an advisor, talent scout, and traveling representative. The fans were incredibly excited to see one of the true legends of the sport.

Chee, “Mr. Caulfield, I speak for everyone in attendance when I say we are excited to have you here tonight. I also speak for everyone here when I ask, why are you here?”

Caulfield, “It’s just Chris, Steffi -- but I appreciate the welcome and the question. It is a good one. As many of you know, I retired from active competition in the sport, but the Confederation of the Territories saw fit to bring me aboard as both an advisor and a scout. They think I have something to offer and I am grateful for their trust. They sent me here tonight, here to the great city of Indianapolis to make a major announcement for the Confederation.”

Chee, “Well what’s the announcement?”

Caulfield, “Starting in February of 2021…”

Before Caulfield can continue, “The Hangman’s Body Count” is played over the public address system and the crowd in attendance stood to their feet. They knew what that meant.

XyUhxy3.jpg?1

The Hangman, complete in his coat and hat and with his rope wrapped around his neck like a serpent, stood in the entrance way. Chris Caulfield looked very curious and Steffi Chee looked nervous. The Hangman made the slow walk to the ring and Chris Caulfield -- clad in his dress shirt and jeans looking as close to corporate as a man called the Hardcore American can look.

Chee, “Hangman.” She raises a hand in front of the big monster who has his eyes locked in on Chris Caulfield. “Why are you out here?”

The Hangman turned his head towards Steffi Chee. He has never spoken in Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. In twelve months, not one word. He leaned forward towards the microphone, “He who serves me best shall earn the rope on the gallows-tree.”

Steffi Chee looked like she didn’t understand, but Chris Caulfield started to roll up his sleeves. Just in case. The Hangman turned to look back at the Hardcore American and then it happened. He launched a throat-thrust with blinding speed and Caulfield stumbled away. He turned back towards The Hangman and the Hangman had a big boot for Chris Caulfield. Caulfield hit the mat and was slow to get up but when he got up, The Hangman had a hand on his throat. He looked into Caulfield’s eyes for a long moment before he lifted him high into the air and brought him crashing down into the mat for a massive chokeslam.

The Hangman turned to Steffi Chee who was still standing there with a microphone. He leaned towards the microphone. “Did you think I went to all this fuss to Hang one man?”

He said that directly into the microphone before exiting the ring while Steffi Chee dropped the microphone and checked on the downed Chris Caulfield.

Steffi Chee stood in the ring waiting for Reece & Wells. The two women entered the ring and Chee was ready.

Chee, “Let’s get right to it, ladies. Next month -- at New Year Scramble, you two have a shot at the World Tag team Titles currently held by Lilly and Rose. How are you preparing for the match?”

Reece, “First let us say how excited we are for the match. We don’t know who the World Tag Champs will be going into it. We won’t know until closer to the show, but we are excited for the opportunity. All Sabrina and I have wanted since we started wrestling was to be recognized as among the best in the world. Winning the World Tag Team Titles would do that for us.”

Wells, “It certainly would. Look, we know that Lilly and Rose are two incredible talents. They’re the World Tag Team Champions for a reason. They’ve been dominant champions. They’ve defended them in Mexico, in Canada and here in the United States. They’ve been fighting champions. We know that if it is them, the smart money is on them. But we’re not about the smart money.”

Reece, “We are ready to prove that we belong in the conversation with the best tag teams on the planet. Next month, at New Year Scramble, right here in the Fountain Square Theatre, we will prove that.”

"The Mighty Atom" Izzy Quick versus "The Pharaoh" Talia Neema

Izzy Quick was making her CWI debut here. It’s rumored that her and her partner Coco Malloy are joining the full-time CWI roster. The small woman had her hands full with Neema. Neema came out with a mean strike the size of one of the pyramids in her homeland. She took every shortcut she could think of. She controlled the smaller woman by her hair. She clawed at her eyes. She argued with the ref with a leg draped over Quick’s throat. It was classic heel stuff and it worked to draw the ire of the crowd. Quick made a big comeback where she flew around the ring. She hit several big dropkicks and ended up pulling out a La Magistral Cradle to get the quick pin, much to the surprise of Talia Neema.

In a decent match, Izzy Quick defeated Talia Neema in 9:01 by pinfall with a La Magistral Cradle.

"The Oklahoma Thunderbolt" Jason Patterson versus "Lone Star" Samson Sharpe

Samson Sharpe was over confident in this contest. Patterson has not seen a lot of success so far in CWI, but the young man is a hard worker and he came out with something to prove. This was an underwhelming, old school affair. There was nothing blatantly see-through in the match, but there was also nothing that would make this match stand the test of time. Both men are young and green and while Sharpe is a big physical specimen, Patterson has yet to really find his footing. Sharpe went for a big lariat, but Patterson ducked under it and hit a school boy roll up to get the surprise victory.

In a decent match, Jason Patterson defeated Samson Sharpe in 12:21 by pinfall with a roll up.

The Dog Soldiers versus The Nation of Filth

The Dog Soldiers have been on a roll lately. The whole trio. Youngblood and Stallion -- the two that have paired off to be a full time team were in action against well known team the Nation of Filth. While a more modern company would probably turn their noses up at them, they fit in just fine in the old school style company that appreciates a wide variety of styles. This was designed to get the Soldiers over. Stink and Grunt worked over Youngblood -- but he still got in a good amount of offense before he made the big tag to Wild Red Stallion -- who ran through both opponents. He hit Stink with a Lakota Cutter and the Dog Soldiers continued to roll.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Ace Youngblood and Wild Red Stallion defeated The Nation Of Filth in 6:25 when Wild Red Stallion pinned Stink with a Lakota Cutter.

Wild Red Stallion was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Miller Fforde versus Dreadnought w/ Andrew Gibson

Last month, Dreadnought was finally knocked off his feet when PJ Strong body slammed him and hit him with a leg drop. The big man, who never seems in a good mood, looks even meaner tonight against the former MAW Champion. Fforde was used to being an underdog but this was something else. Gibson was angry on the outside and he commanded Dreadnought to break Fforde -- and break Fforde he did. The body shots that Dreadnought launched on Fforde were shots that one would have seen Dread exchange with Kikkawa in his Burning Hammer days. It was all Fforde could do to try and weather the storm but the storm overwhelmed him. Dreadnought threw Fforde across the ring and when he got up he hit him with a big running avalanche. He hit him with a Dread Bomb -- but didn’t pin him. Instead, at Gibson’s command, he hit him with a second Dread Bomb. And then a third. And that was all she wrote.

In an extremely short match, Dreadnought defeated Miller Fforde in 5:18 by pinfall with a Dread Bomb.

American Gold versus The Dirty White Boys

The Dirty White Boys were in action in CWI for the first time. The veteran team were looking to make an impact against the young team of American Gold. American Gold inserted themselves into Nate DeMarcus’ issues with the Canadian Blonds left month after making their own in ring debut and they were looking to continue building their positive momentum here. The crowd was excited to see both American Gold and the Dirty White Boys in action -- both teams have national names which naturally makes the casual person in the crowd more excited. This was action packed. The Dirty White Boys are a pair of wild brawlers that contrasted the uber-athletic, high energy style of American Gold. The Boys kept the match physical and close and Gold kept creating some space so their speed could help. English took the brunt of the beating and made the hot take to Chamberlain -- whose burst of energy really helped take the crowd even higher. Chamberlain hit Grease Hogg with a big overhead Belly to Belly Suplex -- which popped the crowd to see big Hogg fly through the air. He hit a spinning wheel kick on Lead Belly and then hit a big brainbuster before getting the pin and the win for his team.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, American Gold defeated The Dirty White Boys in 8:03 when Maliek Chamberlain pinned Lead Belly.

"The Mistress of the DDT" Steph Blake versus Electric Dreamer ©

This was the first time the World Women’s Championship would be defended in CWI. Electric Dreamer has been the only champion thus far and she has been incredibly popular across all of the COTT companies. Her opponent tonight was CWI’s Queen of the Mountain, Steph Blake. The reigning -- and thus far only -- CWI Women’s Champion. This was a clash of styles in the most perfect of ways. Dreamer is a high-flying luchadora who can glide through the air with ease and Steph Blake is a bully of a worker with that hard-hitting British style of holds and stiff strikes. The combination was magic for the audience that saw Blake punish Dreamer for larger stretches of the match. The fans in attendance were firmly behind Dreamer -- her ability to connect with the young female demographic is almost unparalleled in the sport. Dreamer made a big comeback that had Steph Blake flying all over the ring for her. Blake cut off the comeback by going for the mask -- which almost got her disqualified. Dreamer fought out of that and hit a beautiful springboard huricanrana that almost won her the match. Blake fought out of that and hit an Implant DDT -- not one of her major DDTs, but an effective one nonetheless. That almost won her the World Women’s Championship but Dreamer kicked out just before the three and the crowd was into this.

Blake stood to her feet and noticed that Felicia Luck -- whom she previously defeated -- had come to ringside. Luck wasn’t interjecting herself in any fashion, she just had a notebook out and was taking notes. Scouting. This caught the attention of Steph Blake just long enough for Electric Dreamer to set her up for -- and hit -- the Electric Blue Bomb and successfully defend the World Women’s Championship.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Electric Dreamer defeated Steph Blake in 19:11 by pinfall with an Electric Blue Bomb after a distraction from Felicia Luck. Electric Dreamer makes defence number nine of the COTT World Women's title.

The Fighting Irish versus Sayeed Ali & Acid

The main event of the evening was a highly anticipated match up. This marked the first time ever that Sayeed Ali and Acid were a team and it also marked the first time in several years that The Fighting Irish has teamed up. The crowd was very into this contest. The hottest program in the company has been Conner Threepwood’s Rise as the Indiana Strangler and his running up against Sayeed Ali and Acid. It’s clear that the time off from NYCW has affected Tubbs’ abilities as he was a step slower than everyone else. The Irish controlled the early portion of the match. Their significant experience advantage helped them control Acid and isolate him from Sayeed Ali -- but Acid’s willingness to shove his thumb into an opponent’s eye and his speed were able to create enough space for him to tag in Ali and for the two dastardly men to isolate Crockett Tubbs from the hometown hero, Conner Threepwood. Acid and Ali used frequent tags in and out and vicious strikes. Ali got to continue to showcase his skills as an all around performer and Acid got to hit some good high-risk offense that was well placed on Tubbs. Tubbs started his comeback and made the tag to Threepwood and the roof damn near blew off the place as the Mid-American Champion cleaned house. The normal technical wizard was all strikes during his comeback and the place was rocking with him. Acid and Ali bumped big for the Mid American Champion until he had his back turned and Ali was able to take out the knee. Threepwood howled in pain and Ali went right after the knee. He stretched it out and reached up to make a tag to Acid who came down with a double stomp on the leg. Threepwood rolled away and Acid let him make the tag to Tubbs. Tubbs came in and it wasn't long before Acid had him down and was able to hit the Acid Rain Bomb and that was that.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Acid and Sayeed Ali defeated The Fighting Irish in 19:38 when Acid pinned Crockett Tubbs with an Acid Rain Bomb.

Crockett Tubbs was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

That's the last show of 2020! I have three post-show angles to write and then the year itself will be finished and I can work on the big start of 2021 post. We've been narrative-light over the last couple of shows [that was by design] and I want to get back into the narrative pieces.

There was an error on this show. Originally, Samson Sharpe was supposed to win his match but I selected the wrong winner and didn't realize until it was too late and so I rolled with it.

There were some guys like PJ who didn't get on this show -- but that was also by design. And should be explained in one of the post-show angles that are coming.

I hope you enjoyed the first twelve months of shows!
