Saturday Week 3, April 2020

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

82 people in attendance (an increase of 7 fans from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Hello and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre for another exciting night of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis action. We are here for April Showers and it promises to be a great night of professional wrestling action. I’m joined in the broadcast booth tonight by Mark Hyatt. Mark, how are you doing?”

Hyatt, “I couldn’t be better, Marv. I won my lawsuit against that chair store where I slipped and fell, so I’m flush with cash and I’ve got money on tonight’s main event.”

Earnest, “I’m not sure that’s entirely legally, but we do how a hell of a main event. Tonight, American Gold puts the Tag Team Titles on the line against The Player’s Club. Will the Player’s Club be able get bottle service tonight as the new champions, or will American Gold continue to stand tall atop the tag team mountain?”

Hyatt, “I’ve got new champions tonight, Marv. The Player’s Club is riding a wave of momentum since forming as a tag team in the fall of 2020. Tonight they’re going to get the job done and earn me a new pair of loafers.”

Earnest, “Again, I’m not sure if that’s entirely legal, but that’s a brave choice. We also will see the Masked Cougar in action against The Hangman. There is a ten-woman battle royal to determine who will challenge Steph Blake for the Women’s Championship next month at Circle City Classic II. All that and so much more tonight. Let’s go to Steffi Chee ringside to get tonight started.”

Matt Blackburn & Minnesota Awesome versus The Canadian Blonds

The opening contest was a six-man affair. PGHW graduate Matt Blackburn has been stuck in the middle of the pack in CWI and Minnesota Awesome, his partners for this match, made their CWI debuts last month by getting to the semi-finals of the March Madness tournament. Their opponents were the World Six-Man Champions, though this was a non-title affair. It was an exhibition. Blackburn looked very impressive at the beginning of the match. His time in Japan has really been paying off and he’s developing into quite the talent. He hit several vicious leg kicks to LaGrenier that left large red welts on his thighs. The Blonds were able to take control after Blackburn tagged out and they never looked back. The Blonds isolated Perry Longstaff and LaGrenier, welts and all, was able to hit the Quebec Arrow to pick up the win for the World-Six Man Champions.

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Canadian Blonds (Philippe LaGrenier, Ozzie Goldstein and Flash Savage) defeated Matt Blackburn and Minnesota Awesome in 8:19 when Philippe LaGrenier pinned Perry Longstaff with a Quebec Arrow.

Zippy Deverell came to the ring flanked by his two big henchmen, The Taggs. They climbed into the ring and Deverell took a microphone.

Deverell, “I’m pissed off. I’ll be honest. I’m pissed off that I don’t’ have the Indiana Heavyweight Championship anymore. It’s been two months since I’ve held that championship in my arms. Since I woke up looking at it. Two months. Two long months. I want it back. I want it back for Deverell’s Army. If not me -- than Samson Sharpe. Or one of these two big mountains from Montana. We will get back the Indiana Heavyweight Championship and we will run those Dog Soldiers out of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis.

“Stunning” Sabrina Wells versus Merryl Lavoie

The second match of the evening gave Meryl Lavoie another opportunity to get a big win against someone with a better resume. Lavoie has all of the tools to eventually be a player in the wrestling world -- but she’s still a rookie. Wells had more experience and put that to use in the match. It was not a particularly good match, but Wells was able to hit a Super Kick that connected underneath the chin of Merryl Lavoie. It looked like it knocked Lavoie airborne and Wells got the victory.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Sabrina Wells defeated Merryl Lavoie in 8:25 by pinfall with a Super Kick.

“Indiana’s Finest” Mr. Grappling versus Xander DeColt

For the first time in his career, Mr. Grappling was on the main show. He’s been getting rave reviews for his performances on the spot shows. This was Xander DeColt’s first singles match in CWI -- and only his third match as a professional. The son of Steve DeColt, Xander, has all of the raw tools to be a hot prospect. Grappling works a very old-school style. Like a throwback to times gone by. Mr. Grappling hit a big knee lift on Xander DeColt that was textbook beautiful. Xander hit some good offense, but in the end, Mr. Grappling hit a classic DDT that got him the main show victory.

In a decent match, Mr. Grappling defeated Xander DeColt in 7:36 by pinfall with a Rip Chord DDT.

Number One Contender to Women's Title

3N08v8J.png?2

Featuring: Ruby Reece, Kate Lilly, Debbie Rose, Urena Frost, Talia Neema, Black Diamond, Izzy Quick, Coco Malloy, Felicia Luck, and Joy Ryder

The number one contender’s battle royal was up next. All ten women came out to the ring and the action was good for a battle royal. All of the women in the match have endeared themselves to the audience and that really increased the buy-in. Lilly & Rose, The Femme Fatales, and the San Diego Girls went at each other, all paired off and we saw some potential tag team nastiness between the World Women’s Tag Team Champions and the other two teams. While that was going on, Felicia Luck and Black Diamond went at while Joy Ryder and Ruby Reece went at it. One by one, woman after woman was tossed out until it came down to Felicia Luck, Urena Frost, and Lilly & Rose. Urena Frost and Felicia Luck eliminated Lilly & Rose at the same time before Luck and Frost had a short, high energy exchange and Luck ended up eliminating Urena Frost and cementing her spot against Steph Blake next month.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Felicia Luck won a battle royal in 16:37. The other members of the 'final four' were Urena Frost, Kate Lilly and Debbie Rose, with Urena Frost being the final elimination. Kate Lilly got the most eliminations over the course of the match.

Walter Blackhawk versus Samson Sharpe

Walter Blackhawk and Samson Sharpe had a very poor match. Walter Blackhawk is not very good. Even in a six-minute match, Blackhawk was sucking down air. Sharpe was very physical and looked good -- he looked like a star that SWF let slip through their hands. Sharpe hit a Fall Away Slam that was vicious and then he followed up with a Full Nelson Bomb that secured him the victory.

In an extremely short match, Samson Sharpe defeated Walter Blackhawk in 5:28 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Bomb.

PJ Strong versus Danny DeColt

This match was several months in the making. Danny DeColt made his CWI debut costing PJ Strong a match against James Diaz. DeColt looks like a young Alex DeColt and he worked just like his dad. PJ continues to be the shining example of charisma and star quality and while the technical portion of this match was lacking, the crowd was into everything the two men did. DeColt controlled the majority of the match until Strong went into his big comeback that had the Big boot, Body Slam, and Leg Drop combo that got PJ Strong the big victory.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, PJ Strong defeated Danny DeColt in 9:05 by pinfall with a Leg Drop.

Steffi Chee stood in the ring while Conner Threepwood and then Sayeed Ali came out to the ring. There was a small table set up in the ring for this. There was a stack of papers on the table and a pen. Chee was holding a microphone.

Chee, “Conner and Sayeed. For the better part of a year, the two of you have been involved in a bitter rivalry. You have spilt blood in this ring. You left each other bruised and battered. Next month, at Circle City Classic II, you will go at it one last time for the Mid America Championship. Conner, how do you --”

Before Steffi can finish the question to Conner, Sayeed Ali grabbed the microphone from her hand.

Ali, “Ah ah. I don’t think so. I’m the damn champ. I’m the shot caller. You talk to me -- not this baby back bi--”

Before Ali can finish, Threepwood reached over and snatched the microphone from him.

Threepwood, “I don’t think so. This is my ring. This is my company. My house. Built on my back and I love this place. I love the Fountain Square Theatre and I love these fans and you’re not about to stand in this ring and disrespect it.”

Chee reached for the microphone.

Chee, “Gentlemen, let’s calm down. Your match is next month and we are here to specify the terms and for you to sign the contract. While Sayeed Ali is not a Confederation of the Territories employee or contracted wrestler, by virtue of being Mid American Champion he gets to set the stipulation for the match. Sayeed, do you have a stipulation in mind.”

Sayeed Ali leaned into the microphone.

Ali, “You’re damn right I do. I’m not going to waste any time either. If this punk ass wants to take the Mid America Championship from me, he’s going to have to do it in a Texas Deathmatch. He’s going to have to not just pin me but he’s going to have to make sure I can’t answer a ten count -- and I know this bit..”

Again, before Ali can finish the swear word, Steffi Chee pulled the microphone away.

Chee, “There are children in the audience, Sayeed. Please watch your language.”

Ali, “I don’t give a damn about any of these punk ass kids. I don’t give a damn about anybody in this damn building. I only care about getting what’s mine. Next month, Conner, if you want my belt you’re going to have to knock my ass out -- and I know you’re not man enough to do it. You aren’t man enough to stand in the ring and take this belt from me and you know that.”

Chee turned to Conner and held the microphone over.

Threepwood, “Sayeed. Next month, I’m going to beat your ass. I’m going to take back my title and I’m going to prove that I’m the better man. I’ll see you there.”

Conner bent over and signed the contract.

Ali, “You just made a big mistake son. The biggest mistake of your life. I’m going to end you. I’m going to end your damn career.”

Ali also signed the contract and it is official.

Masked Cougar versus The Hangman

The semi main event pit the indy legend, Masked Cougar, against CWI’s most dominant force, The Hangman. Since January of 2020, The Hangman has not been defeated. He hasn’t been knocked off his feet. He hasn’t sold any offense. Masked Cougar is a former COTT World Champion and is respected the world over. The crowd was into everything in this match -- and The Hangman came out of the gate laying waste to Cougar. He was vicious and violent. He tossed Cougar around and Cougar sold perfectly. Like it was ten years ago and he was in the prime of his physical abilities. The Hangman went for the Chokeslam, but Cougar slipped out of it -- the first time someone has slipped out of the Chokeslam. This created and opening and Cougar went on offense and The Hangman sold for the first time in over a year -- but he didn’t take a bump. He went down to a knee, but he came back up. The crowd went wild when Cougar hit a standing dropkick that sent Hangman stumbling over the ropes and landed feet first on the outside. The Hangman had been knocked out of the ring! Masked Cougar ran and dove over the top rope -- but Hangman caught him and threw him into the guardrail. The Hangman exploded, attacking Masked Cougar with precise, vicious strikes. Referee Bret Graveson went to the outside of the ring and demanded The Hangman get back in the ring -- and The Hangman shoved him down. That got him disqualified while The Hangman continued to assault Masked Cougar until security hit the ringside area and pulled him away. Cougar’s mask was ripped and there was blood coming down his face but he stumbled to his feet and wanted more -- but security kept the two men apart.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Masked Cougar defeated The Hangman in 9:40 when The Hangman got disqualified after going into an attacking rage.

The Player's Club w/ Lucinda Lush versus American Gold ©

The main event pit The Player’s Club against American Gold. American Gold has really gotten over with the CWI audience -- particularly Chamberlain and the Player’s Club have been a good heel act and this was a solid tag team match. It wasn’t spectacular from an action standpoint, but man the crowd was into it all. Gold shone in the early part of the match before Lucinda Lush tripped up Chamberlain and The Player’s Club was able to take control. They worked over Chamberlain while English bounced around on the outside trying to encourage his partner to make the hot tag. There were several hope spots where it looked like Chamberlain was going to make the tag -- but the Club did everything they could to cut the ring off and keep him isolated. When Chamberlain finally leapfrogged over Pryde and made the tag to English -- you would have thought the people were going to throw the babies in the air. English was a house of fire -- bumping both Corner and Pryde all around the ring. Lush was excellent at ringside. She screamed and pulled at her hair and slapped the ring apron while English made the big comeback. Chamberlain got the tag to come back in but suddenly Ozzie Goldstein was at ringside. Lush distracted Jez McArthur while Goldstein leaned back and threw a handful of powder -- that missed either member of American Gold and hit Charlie Corner! Chamberlain was able to hit his Gordbuster and American Gold got the title defence!

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, American Gold defeated The Player's Club in 17:01 when Maliek Chamberlain pinned Charlie Corner with a Gordbuster following botched interference by Ozzie Goldstein. American Gold make defence number one of the CWI Tag Team.

Front page is looking great, Historian!

Albeit the tag teams are kind of crowding in on each other, but I kind of like it, has a charm to it.

Thank you!

My wife, Eyreo, actually made all of the tag team things for me [and all of the stable graphics] and she gave me exactly what I was looking for so I'm glad it has some charm to it!

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was in action in Whiteland, Indiana for a fundraiser for the Clark Pleasant School Corporation. The show continued the trend of CWI spot shows of being incredibly well received.

  • The opening match saw Yvonne Ericks defeat Merryl Lavoie in a surprisingly good contest.

  • Fresh off his win at April Showers, Mr. Grappling continued his run of success beating Kalder Tagg in a singles contest.

  • Danny DeColt rebounded from his loss to PJ Strong by defeating Walter Blackhawk.

  • In the semi-final match, Talia Neema beat Coco Malloy in a very hard-hitting contest.

  • The main event saw The Player's Club rebound from their loss to American Gold by defeating Minnesota Awesome in a very competitive tag team match.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis will be back in action just before the Indianapolis 500 for Circle City Classic II. Last year, the Circle City Classic event saw Conner Threepwood defeat Frederique in the best match CWI has ever seen. This year, it promises to be an equally good event! The main event will see Conner Threepwood challenge Sayeed Ali for the COTT Mid America Championship in a Texas Deathmatch!

There are three other big title matches on the show, plus three different grudge matches -- with a rematch between Nate DeMarcus and Philippe LaGrenier being one of them. There is so much action on this show, you want to get your tickets today.

Saturday Week 4, May 2021

88 people in attendance (an increase of 6 fans from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to the night before the Indianapolis 500, welcome to Circle City Classic II! I'm Marvin Earnest and I'm alongside Mark Hyatt for a night of professional wrestling action that could change the face of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis for good. There are four championship matches on the docket tonight, including the World Women's Tag Team Championship. There is so much scheduled for tonight, I don't know where to begin!"

Hyatt, "How about with how Sayeed Ali is going to finally end Conner Threepwood once and for all in our main event. The Mid America title is on the line but it is a Texas Deathmatch. You don't leave the same as you walked in from a Texas Deathmatch. It takes a piece of your soul and tonight, Sayeed Ali is going to take more than just a piece of Conner Threepwood's soul!"

Earnest, "He very well might. Conner Threepwood might also surprise you Mark and give Sayeed Ali the ass whooping of his career. Either way, both men are going to need to be on top of their game tonight!"

Hyatt, "They certainly will, Marv. I can't wait for all the action!"

PJ Strong & Mr. Grappling versus DeColts Reborn

The opening bout was a tag team match with some bad blood in it. PJ Strong had a score to settle with DeColts Reborn -- particularly Danny DeColt. Even though he beat Danny DeColt in singles action last month, PJ wanted to prove that he could do both tag and singles over Danny -- and Xavier wanted an opportunity to get even from March when PJ cost Danny and Xavier their March Madness opportunity. PJ Strong and Mr. Grappling had never teamed up before this match. Their inexperience showed at the beginning of the match. They weren’t sure how to best team up and the DeColts Reborn were able to take control early on and they isolated Mr. Grappling from making the tag to PJ. Grappling absorbed a heck of a beating. The third generation DeColts took full advantage of their knowledge of one another to keep control of the match until Mr. Grappling was able to duck a clothesline attempt and make the tag to PJ. PJ came in like a house of fire and he dropped both members of the DeColts Then came the big boots and the body slams and then he dropped a leg over the throat of Danny DeColt and got the three count for the win.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, PJ Strong and Mr. Grappling defeated DeColts Reborn in 9:46 when PJ Strong pinned Danny DeColt with a Leg Drop.

Matt Blackburn versus "New York's Finest" Egon Merowitz

This was definitely a strong style affair that would have been better received in the Far East than in Indianapolis, Indiana but it was still a good, very physical contest. Blackburn and Merowitz blasted each other with hard strikes. Merowitz hit several big suplexes on Blackburn and Blackburn continued to show his fighting spirit. He hopped to his feet several times and absorbed more blows. Blackburn was able to hit several big kicks on Merowitz that backed the big man up and allowed Blackburn to get onto on the ring apron and springboard in. He drove his forearm into Merowitz’s face with a Springboard Forearm that dropped Merowitz to the mat and allowed Blackburn to get the three count.

In a decent match, Matt Blackburn defeated Egon Merowitz in 6:27 by pinfall with a Springboard Forearm.

Nate "The Great" DeMarcus versus Philippe LaGrenier

These two are no stranger to one another and the saga of Nate DeMarcus (and American Gold) against the Canadian Blonds continued here. The Blonds have been very active in recent months -- since winning the World Six-Man Titles -- in going to other COTT territories. DeMarcus controlled the early portion of the match with his strength -- tossing LaGrenier around like a ragdoll. He hit an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex on LaGrenier -- who is not a small man at all -- that really got the people’s attention. LaGrenier powdered out of the ring and was able to sucker DeMarcus in and take control. He went to work on DeMarcus’ shoulder, trying to take away the power that comes with the Snap Tackle that DeMarcus uses. All of LaGrenier’s offence was simple, but effective. He stomped on the arm. He did a Shoulder Breaker. All designed to limit the strongman’s arm. DeMarcus was able to make a big comeback with just one arm. He hit an impressive One-Arm Stalling Suplex that got him a near fall. He went for the Snap Tackle] But LaGrenier got out of the way and was able to School Boy DeMarcus up and put his feet on the middle ropes for extra leverage and stole a victory from Nate.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Philippe LaGrenier defeated Nate DeMarcus in 12:33 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage.

The Dog Soldiers versus Deverell's Army

The Dog Soldiers and Deverell’s Army have been embroiled in a battle over the past few months and tempers seem to be getting hotter between the eight men. Monteiro won the Indiana Heavyweight Title from Zippy and since then, it has been a war. This match started off hot right from the opening bell. There was no wasted time and senior official Jez McArthur had his hands full trying to control all eight men -- especially when Deverell’s Army was so willing to not play by the rules. They cheated at every opportunity they could. They’d dump a Dog Soldier to the outside of the ring and the legal man would distract McArthur while the other three would put the boots to the Soldier on the outside. Then the other Dog Soldiers tried to intervene, McArthur would always stop them. The match broke down several times into a wild eight-man brawl and it was during one of these brawls, when six of the men were on the outside of the ring, that Zippy Deverell was able to hit Walter Blackhawk with a Spinning Bulldog and get the three count.

In a decent match, Deverell's Army (Zippy Deverell, Samson Sharpe, Kalder Tagg and Wolfie Tagg) defeated Dog Soldiers (Roger Monteiro, Ace Youngblood, Wild Red Stallion and Walter Blackhawk) in 11:33 when Zippy Deverell pinned Walter Blackhawk with a Spinning Bulldog.

Walter Blackhawk was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Masked Cougar versus The Hangman

Last month, The Hangman refused to adhere to referee instructions and was disqualified against Masked Cougar, but Masked Cougar was not happy with that and wanted an opportunity to prove that he could beat the still unpinned, unsubmitted, unknocked-off-his-feet monster that is The Hangman. The match, like the previous match, started off hot. Cougar came out of the gate going after the legs of the Hangman, trying to get the big man off his feet. The Hangman got to show his skills as a wrestler here -- as he sold on the move for Cougar. Last match and this match were the first time The Hangman registered any of his opponent’s offense and it really got the people into the match even more. Cougar went for a springboard move of some sort, but Hangman snatched him out of the air with a body slam that surprised everyone. With this opening, The Hangman went to work and he was incredibly efficient. He has really been developing into a high-level brawler and while many of his matches haven’t allowed him to showcase a variety of his skills, against Masked Cougar, The Hangman got to show that he could go. He hit a big clothesline where he actually left his feet. He had explosive speed and while he didn’t use any weapons -- referee Bret Graveson couldn’t tell him to stop pounding on the Cougar. The Hangman hit a big Choke Slam and got the pinfall victory in an incredibly impressive performance.

In an exceptional match, The Hangman defeated Masked Cougar in 10:43 by pinfall with a Choke Slam.

Reece & Wells The San Diego Girls versus The Femme Fatales versus Lilly & Rose ©

The Women’s World Tag Team Titles were on the line in the next contest. Lilly & Rose have been very busy as champions, going into this match they had thirteen successful title defences in their eleven-month reign as champions. Reece & Wells were added to the card the day of the show (or the person who posted the card forgot that this was a four-way dance) The crowd was really into this match. The young fans in attendance really like Izzy Quick, her lack of stature but spunk and babyface fire. The Femme Fatales, particularly Frost, have been incredibly consistent and shining stars of the Women’s Division. The match had a lot of action and back and forth. Quick hit a big dive onto all seven other women on the outside of the ring in a moment that brought the fans to their feet. The powerful Frost hit a big running Mafia-style kick on Coco Malloy that sent Malloy into the first row of fans.

Inside the ring, Izzy Quick hit a Reverse-Rana on Sabrina Wells and pinned her to eliminate Reece & Wells from the match. This cut it down to three teams -- and it was here that Lilly and Rose started to assert themselves. They are both excellent workers who have been carving out a name for themselves since AAA closed -- especially as Women’s World Tag Team Champions. Debbie Rose hit the Thorn Cutter on Izzy Quick and got the pinfall and The San Diego Girls were eliminated.

This left The Femme Fatales and Lilly & Rose. The match slowed down a bit here as Neema and Frost are more power and impact style wrestlers than flyers. Neema kept looking for the Hieroglyph - a Pele Kick -- to knock out either Lilly or Rose, but the champions had the move scouted and were able to avoid it several times. Lilly and Rose almost won several times with quick rollups. Eventually, Lilly was dumped to the outside and The Femme Fatales hit the #YouToo to get the pin on Rose and we have new World Women’s Tag Team Champions!

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Femme Fatales defeated The San Diego Girls, Reece & Wells and Lilly & Rose in 20:30; the order of elimination was Reece & Wells first, then The San Diego Girls, and finally Lilly & Rose. Femme Fatales win the COTT World Women's Tag Team titles.

Felicia Luck versus "The Mistress of the DDT" Steph Blake ©

The second of four straight title matches -- and the second straight women’s division match. For months, Luck had been building momentum and building to this match. It was her second opportunity at the CWI Women’s Championship that Steph Blake has held for fourteen months. The crowd was really into everything these women were doing. Blake came out of the gate trying to control the young striker and for most of the match, Blake bullied Luck around the ring. It was physical and classic Steph Blake. She got to be salty and mean. She ground her forearm over the bridge of Luck’s nose. She dropped hard knees into the face of Luck. Any salty, vicious hit that she could come up with she did, but Luck fought back. She fought out of a Slingshot DDT on two separate occasions. She hit a big DDT of her own that almost got her the three count. Blake went for another Slingshot DDT, but Luck countered it into a roll up that got her the three count and the CWI Women’s Championship!

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Felicia Luck defeated Steph Blake in 12:47 by pinfall with a fast roll up. Felicia Luck wins the CWI Women's.

Bred for Battle w/ Andrew Gibson versus American Gold ©

The third straight championship match -- and three of four on the show. American Gold were defending their Tag Team Championships against the winners of the 2021 March Madness tournament, Bred for Battle. The two big men managed by Andrew Gibson had been on quite a roll lately, with multiple big wins on their way to the March Madness win. American Gold have been an incredibly popular duo -- their USPW run helping them in that regards, but Chamberlain is a son of Detroit and has a fan base in the Great Lakes area to begin with. Diaz and Dreadnought worked hard to keep the pace of this match slow -- the two big bulls did not want to let American Gold open up their engines. American Gold kept looking for opportunities to speed up the match. Dreadnought took only his second bump in CWI history in this match off a big double Suplex from American Gold. Chamberlain looked like he was going to try for the Gourdbuster when Ozzie Goldstein came to the ring to distract him. Chamberlain yelled something at Goldstein and that allowed Dreadnought to get back to his feet and hit the Dread Bomb on Chamberlain and Bred for Battle won the Tag Team Titles!

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Bred for Battle defeated American Gold in 13:04 when Dreadnought pinned Maliek Chamberlain with a Dread Bomb after a distraction from Ozzie Goldstein. Bred for Battle win the CWI Tag Team.

"The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood versus "The East Side Assassin" Sayeed Ali ©

The main event of the evening. Almost a year of build-up to this match. These two men have spilt blood. They’ve beaten the hell out of each other. They’ve got good promos and drove up fan interest and tonight it came to ahead in a Texas Deathmatch that was every bit the old-school violence that a fan would expect. This was not some modern deathmatch with spots that didn’t make any sense and senseless violence. This was physical and violent and went around the building but the weapons were weapons that made sense. A couple of folding chairs. A chain. There were no thumbtacks or legos or anything like that. Both men bled. They bled buckets. They each pinned the other but each man was able to get up before the ten count. The fans were on their feet when Threepwood hit a suplex off the ring apron straight onto the unprotected wooden floor of the Theatre. The thud let people know how hard these two men just hit the ground. Ali unattached a section of guardrail and laid it across the ring apron and another section of guardrail and drove both himself and Conner Threepwood through it with a Death Valley Driver that literally broke the guard rail in half.

The people chanted and yelled. They cheered and booed. They begged and pleaded as the match went on. Neither man could put the other way, despite the blood loss and the physicality. Threepwood countered a G.B.H. Driver attempt from Sayeed Ali that would have planted Threepwood headfirst into the ring apron. Threepwood lifted Ali upside down and held him there for a long moment. He looked down at the wreckage of guardrail that had been broken previously and he lept off and drove Sayeed Ali into the broken guardrail with a Piledriver to end all Piledrivers. Threepwood made the cover and got the three count and referee Jez McArthur made the ten count. It was slow and agonizing and the people held their collective breath until the ten count was hit and Conner Threepwood was once again Mid American Champion.

In an exceptional match, Conner Threepwood defeated Sayeed Ali in a Texas Deathmatch in 21:55 when Sayeed Ali was pinned and could not beat a ten count. Conner Threepwood wins the COTT Mid American title.

The bell rang and Jez McArthur handed a bloodied and battered Conner Threepwood the Mid American Championship. Threepwood stared at it for a long moment. Stared at it as if contemplating what he had had to do tonight to get it back. Sayeed Ali was still laying motionless on the outside of the ring and medical personnel were checking on him. Threepwood rolled back into the ring and stood in the center of it. He hoisted the Mid America Title high above his head and the crowd roared with approval.

The ring had been struck and loaded into the truck. The folding chairs had been put on the metal racks and rolled into the storage shed. We weren’t putting enough fans in the building yet to need bleachers, so we hadn’t had to get any of those. The entrance curtain and entryway were down. I looked around at the assembled talent. Sayeed Ali was sitting on one of the few remaining chairs. His head was bandaged and he had a bottle of water in his hands. He had been to war tonight. Conner Threepwood was next to him. In the time they had worked together, the pair had become unlikely friends. Threepwood was also bandaged. The crew looked at me. I did not usually give speeches backstage. Every now and then I might say something, but it wasn’t my style. I wasn’t a fire and brimstone leader and I wasn’t a kool-aid server. I expected you to go out and do your job. I expected you to be a professional and to treat this like a business, but tonight was a little different.</p><p> </p><p> “I appreciate everyone staying.” I began. Some of the younger talent was itching to get out. Jack and Charlie and Pepper and Zippy and Amoni and Felicia and the like all wanted to go out and celebrate and be young and fearless. “I wanted to address a couple of things before you all headed out. Tonight was a special night for us.”</p><p> </p><p> I looked around once more. “Tonight, five of our guys move on to bigger things. Five of our guys have gotten the calls and I wanted to make sure to say thank you to them. I wanted to make sure we acknowledged them. First.”</p><p> </p><p> I motioned to Danny and Xander to stand up. The two DeColt boys stood up. “These two are on their way up to Black Maple Championship Wrestling on developmental deals from CWA. They weren’t here long, but we’re happy for them to get the opportunity.” There was a smattering of applause. BMCW was a COTT company. Many of our talents had worked there or were working there currently. They had just inked a deal with the Canadian Wrestling Alliance to accept developmental workers and two of the first guys signed were the DeColts. It made sense. Xander was Steve’s son -- why wouldn’t Steve want to bring him into the fold? Bringing Danny in could be an olive branch to Alex. A way to soften the ground and the bad blood. I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t a therapist and I didn’t even play one on TV. I had originally had bigger plans for the DeColts Reborn. They were slotted to win tonight and start getting some juice behind them, but their signing with CWA put a stop to that.</p><p> </p><p> Xander and Danny sat down and I looked at the former Women’s World Tag Team Champions. They had worked hard for the COTT in the year and a half they had worked for me. They had logged a lot of miles in airplanes and cars going from territory to territory to defend the World belts and help make sure that women’s wrestling was taken seriously in the COTT. They were also on their way out. “Debbie and Kate. There have not been finer professional wrestlers ever. You two are real pros and you’re going to be stars on Reverie. I wanted to publicly say thank you. Thank you for your hard work, your dedication. Go down South and give them hell.”</p><p> </p><p> Kate and Debbie had told me this morning that they were going to sign with USPW. They had twenty-eight days to finish up their independent commitments and they wanted to let me know so I could make changes to the program tonight. They wanted to make sure they were able to drop the tag straps in Indianapolis, where they won them as a thank you for putting them on them and giving them a launching pad to get those six-figure contracts. I had immediately made the call to the Board of Directors and with Sam’s approval, the rest agreed they could drop them to The Femme Fatales. Urena was doing great in CWWF where she was still reigning as their All-Action Champion. Talia was also working for Byron in Europe and was getting a good push in EWA. They were both on their way to being big stars in women’s wrestling and Debbie and Kate were happy to put them over.</p><p> </p><p> “Oh we will” Kate said with a laugh. “We’ll send y’all some shirts.”</p><p> </p><p> The rest of the gang laughed. They were happy for the two ladies. Of course they’d be happy for them. Everyone in this room, bar me, wanted to make it. And I won’t lie, if TCW or CWA came knocking, I’d listen. I might even listen to Packer -- but not the Eisen family. Not after the way, they ruined pro wrestling the way it was meant to be.</p><p> </p><p> I looked back at Sayeed Ali. The warrior that he was. Tonight was bittersweet. “And finally. Tonight was Sayeed’s last night.” The rest of the guys turned their heads as Saeed tried not to look at them. “He got the call from San Antonio. He’s headed down to BriCo to work for Total Championship Wrestling and tear it up and be the damn star on a national level that we knew he could be. Thank you, Sayeed.”</p><p> </p><p> I meant that. From the bottom of my heart I did. Sayeed had bled for us because I asked him to. Tonight, he took a piledriver off of the ring apron onto a broken guardrail because he wanted to make sure that he put Conner over decisively on his way out. Had he not been leaving, I would have put Sayeed over tonight. He would have been my champion for quite some time. His work was great and his promos were even better, but he had caught the eye of TCW and their need for more talent -- especially with USPW’s raids and the forced retirement of Aaron Andrews from the partially severed spinal column he had suffered. Sayeed had earned the right to a big contract. He’d earned the right to be on national television.</p><p> </p><p> Five guys in one night. I looked around the room. Some of the long terms plans I had were going to have to change. Guys were going to have to step up. That was fine. That was what this sport was about. Next man up.</p><p> </p><p> “Now you all get out of here and go have fun. You earned it.”</p><p> </p><p> That ended the meeting and the area immediately erupted into a chorus of conversation and feet. There were congratulations to be given and playful teasing to be done and I still had to oversee the rest of the teardown. The night was far from over, but it had been a good one.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47530" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>A/N</strong>: So many of my plans did have to change. Originally, the DeColts were going to win tonight to get some heat back and begin to establish them as a duo, but a couple of days before the show I got the notification that they were offered deals and day of the show they signed them. I knew I wouldn't have them for the next month's show (or might have but it would have been close) so I finished them up here.<p> </p><p> Lilly and Rose were offered deals on the day of the show and while they wouldn't sign until after the show, I didn't want the tag belts to get dropped here and Debbie had offered to put over Urena so I did it in the four-way (that I mislabeled as a three way for some reason originally). </p><p> </p><p> Sayeed Ali wasn't going to lose here. He was going to win and Conner was going to move on into something else and Sayeed was going to have a nice reign over the summer with some -- if it came off like I wanted -- barnburner matches that were really going to get him over strong, but TCW signed him actually in week two of the month, so this was the last show I'd be able to have him for. While I love the wrenches being thrown, losing five talents in one fell swoop like this really messed up the plans for the summer, but c'est la vie.</p><p> </p><p> I've already run all of those shows for the summer months and I think some interesting stuff happens, not just on the show. There are a couple of narrative things that happen that make the world feel more interesting, I think! </p><p> </p><p> As always, thanks for reading!</p><p> </p><p> Historian</p></div></blockquote>

I really wasn't expecting those results. But everything makes sense, you can only book based on who you have available <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Real shame about Ali though, he was my favorite character of the diary so far.

She was happy for them. After twenty-two years as a professional, she was happy whenever anyone got a break. She was especially happy for Lilly and Rose. In North America, there were only two companies that paid six figures to women wrestlers -- CWA and USPW, so a job with either was incredibly coveted. Debbie and Kate were going to make life-changing money. Steph had never made life-changing money. She had made consistent money. She had made her living for twenty-two years as a professional, but she wasn’t wealthy. She adjusted the ice on her neck and pushed herself to her feet. Now was as good of a time as any.</p><p> </p><p> She began the walk over to Marv. At forty years old, she still felt good -- but she knew that she was losing a battle with Father Time -- and no one ever beat him. He was undefeated. She didn’t want to be one of those people that hung around well past their sell-by date. Tonight, she had done the favors for Felicia Luck. She had been happy to. Luck was a nice lady, she had trained at the Boot Camp and was a project of Marv’s. She was a good young hand and could really develop into something.</p><p> </p><p> Steph cut through people congratulating the five talents that were on their way to bigger paychecks. She passed by some of the younger gals that were planning a night out. Good for them. They had earned it. </p><p> </p><p> She found Marv making sure the chairs got loaded into the ring truck correctly.</p><p> </p><p> “You got a minute Marv?” She asked him while pulling the ice pack from her neck.</p><p> </p><p> Marv turned to her. He wasn’t the nicest guy in the world. He wasn’t mean. He was incredibly professional, but sometimes that professionalism led to coolness. She didn’t mind. She was British and she wasn’t known for being super warm herself.</p><p> </p><p> “Yeah. What do you need?” He asked. Straight to the point. Steph liked that. She didn’t want to waste time.</p><p> </p><p> “I’m going to hang up the boots. Beginning of August.” She didn’t waste time either. </p><p> </p><p> Marv looked at her. His eyes sunk a little bit. Maybe she could have waited a day or two, but why bother? They were both grown. She had just happily dropped the belt. She didn’t need to beat around the bush or pretend or anything like that. She was forty years old. She was still in good shape and she didn’t hurt too bad when she woke. She could still move pretty almost as good as she could when she was young, but she didn’t want to take any chances.</p><p> </p><p> Marv nodded at her. “Beginning of August?” </p><p> </p><p> “That’s right.” Steph said. “I’ll work June and July, but then I’ll be done.”</p><p> </p><p> “I can’t get you to stay through Railroad City Rumble in mid-August?” Marv asked. He wasn’t beginning. Steph appreciated that. He was just asking.</p><p> </p><p> She shook her head. “My mind’s made up. I would have retired sooner, but I wanted to make sure you could wrap some things up so I can put someone over on my way out. Help get the rest of the division established.”</p><p> </p><p> Steph was confident in her decision. It was the right one for her and her life at this point. She wanted to go to school -- she had never done the university thing. At eighteen, she was in wrestling school in America. She wanted to fulfil a promise to her grandfather that she’d get a college degree. He was gone but that didn’t mean the promise was.</p><p> </p><p> “I appreciate the heads up Steph. Thank you.” Marv extended a hand. Steph took it and they shook and that was it. She had just announced she was retiring. It was official. It wasn’t just an idea in her head and come August she would be starting classes to work towards a degree in French Literature. </p><p> </p><p> She turned and walked away from Marv and for a moment almost wanted to get emotional, but then she swallowed hard and pushed that feeling deep down. She was grown. This was a grown-up decision. No use getting emotional. She had no regrets. She smiled and felt a sense of peace come over her. It was time for what’s next.</p><p> </p><p> -------------------------------</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="LaEstrella" data-cite="LaEstrella" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47530" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> I really wasn't expecting those results. Welp, now we know why they needed Ali.

Not only did they lose AA to retirement, but since the game has started they've lost:

  1. Danny Fonzarelli
  2. Doc Hammond
  3. Eddie Chandler
  4. Sammy Bach
  5. Chris Flynn
  6. Tana the Mighty
  7. Killer Shark
  8. Chance Fortune
  9. Benny Benson
  10. Nate Johnson
  11. Flying Jimmy Foxx
  12. Joshua Taylor
  13. Troy Tornado
  14. Greg Gauge
  15. One Man Army

All from their active wrestlers' list. That's fifteen workers, many of them prominent workers that they've had to replace. They've hired their fair share of talent as well and have had two graduating classes that they've sent out -- but they also rose to Big so they had to increase their roster size. They're comfortably number four in the world right now. But yeah. The loss of Aaron Andrews to retirement has really hurt them. Titan also broke his neck and has been out -- and truth be told might retire. His head is at 1 and his body at 3, so I don't expect him to return or return for long. So yeah -- they definitely need Sayeed Ali.
