Before the match started, an envelope containing one thousand dollars in cold hard American cash was shown to the audience so that they saw the money and knew the money was real. Then the entrances happened and the twenty men in this Independence Slam made their way to the ring. This match was chock-full of stars. Gunn, Chamberlain, English, Savage, Goldstein, LaGrenier, and Benson have all been on major television in either the United States or Canada. Other talents have been heavily featured on CWI shows -- except Rafe Sashay who was making his CWI debut here. The charismatic youngster had a natural air about him that made people’s eyes turn to him, and he even scored the first elimination of the contest when he eliminated Clark Smallbone. The crowd was into this match. With all of the star power and the different feuds that were in this match, it gave a the battle royal some drama that is often missing in others. There were representatives from The Dog Soldiers going at it with Deverell’s Army. American Ambition and the Canadian Blonds were in the match. It made for some really good storytelling that was helped by good action that wasn’t going to overshadow any of the rest of the card.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The Dog Soldiers (Youngblood & Stallion) versus The Taggs w/ Haley Buck</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

After the opening battle royal that had some great heat, we moved into the first of two tag team matches. The ongoing rivalry between The Dog Soldiers and Deverell’s Army continued here as Youngblood and Stallion battled the Taggs. With the tag title match still to come, these two teams were on full storytelling mode. The Brothers Tagg were big and physical and started off the match keeping Ace Youngblood away from Wild Red Stallion. There was no babyface shine in this match -- it was right into the heat. Haley Buck was great at ringside and it was clear she had great chemistry with both of the Taggs. Normally she’s a ‘scorned woman’ type, but here it was a ‘familial’ connection to Deverell that got her with the Taggs. She was active at ringside, yelling at Bret Graveson and the fans and helping the heat of the match as Kalder and Wolfie took turns pummeling the veteran babyface Youngblood. Youngblood was able to make the hot tag, no pun intended, to Stallion who cleaned house and sent both Taggs -- and himself -- to the floor with a big double clothesline that sent all three men onto the unprotected wooden floor. Youngblood did a rare dive (for CWI) off the top rope to the floor onto all three men -- his partner included in the aftermath. The four men continued to brawl around the ringside and did not answer Graveson’s count so he was forced to throw the match out.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Ace Youngblood and Wild Red Stallion drew with The Taggs in 11:38 following a double count out.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Blake took the microphone from her former professional rival Steffi Chee.</span></span></span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Blake, “I’ve done a lot of things in my career. A lot of things that I probably shouldn’t be proud of. I’ll be the first to admit that I was a right nasty lass. I lied and cheated and broke every rule I could. I should be ashamed of that, but I’m not. This is a sport and the number one thing is winning. I’ve been a winner my whole career -- but I have also been a loyal friend and teacher. I might have broken some rules in the right, but I never left a friend hanging. I never attacked someone who trusted me. I’ve never been a snake. I thought the War Maidens weren’t snakes and then last month they jumped me in this ring because I lost. I never thought they’d turn their backs on me but they did and tonight. "The Mistress of the DDT" Steph Blake versus Black Diamond</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Black Diamond came out with Frost and Neema -- who weren’t announced as supposed to be accompanying her. Neither have their managers license, so they sat near the commentary table like they were taking notes. This was not Blake’s finest performance, but the veteran earned the right to have an ‘off-night’. Her timing was just off and her and Diamond don’t seem to make great dance partners. Nonetheless, the crowd was into this match. Blake has been a star for sixteen months that the company has been open and operation. She had been the face of the Women’s Division and the crowd was really into watching her bump around Black Diamond -- who took all sorts of bumps for the veteran. Blake controlled the bulk of the match. The veteran teaching the youngster a thing or two, but then Black Diamond caught Blake with a knee to the gut and then a neckbreaker and then went to work. She focused on the back of Steph Blake -- trying to soften her up and take some of the snap out of Blake’s DDTs. Blake fought back and went for several different DDT variations, but Diamond got out of all of them and ended up hitting Blake with a Belly to Belly Suplex to get the win.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

We went from the former champion to the current Champion’s potential second defence -- this time against Becca Barton. Last month, Luck was very impressive in her match with Raven Nightfall and she continued that momentum here against the veteran Barton. Barton has reinvigorated her career in the past several years and she looked excellent here against the young Luck. Barton was like a pitbull. She was all over Luck. She hit her with a series of snap suplexes -- and after each one she went for the pinfall attempt. She hit a series of knee strikes while holding Barton in a front facelook. She locked in a Dragon Sleeper that Luck fought out of. She had Luck in real peril as Luck started her comeback. She fired up and began the fight back process. She hit a barrage of strikes that took Barton off her game and opened up the opportunity for her to hit the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Lucky Strike</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and Luck made her second successful defence.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The tag team title match was next. PJ Strong has been in a months-long battle with Andrew Gibson and his goons. It started in November and has seen Strong really build some good momentum. His partner, “Indiana’s Finest” Mr. Grappling is a classic, well, grappler. A throwback in every way to the old school of things. They have made a good team and this match really had the people into it. The wrestling wasn’t great, PJ Strong is definitely his father’s son -- but once Strong tagged out and Grappling came in the quality picked up a bit. Dreadnought and Diaz worked Grappling over. The two sons of gaijin legends have meshed as a team and they hit some great power offense. Dreadnought has really started to master the ability to both sell on the move and sell without taking a lot of bumps. James Diaz is the bumper of the two, because despite being just as tall he’s presented slightly differently than Dreadnought -- but they didn’t have to take a lot of bumps while working over Grappling. They hit him with a really wicked looking double stalling suplex that almost got them disqualified because of how long they were in the ring. Grappling eventually tagged out to Strong who came in and bumped both big men. Strong continued to get presented like a star-in-waiting. The crowd was really into him when he hit both men with a bodyslam and then tagged Grappling back in Grappling came in and hit a big knee drop on a downed Dreadnought. He turned to make the tag to PJ -- but PJ had been pulled off the apron by James Diaz and sent into the guardrail. This distraction allowed Dreadnought to get back to his feet and a </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Dread Bomb</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> awaited Mr. Grappling and Bred for Battle had the win.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The Hangman versus "The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood ©</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The main event was next. The Hangman made that slow walk to the ring and the fans were immediately all over him. He unwound the rope he carried with him from around his body and laid it over the corner post. Threepwood made the big babyface entrance and the Mid American Champion had the people behind him. Since January of 2020, when CWI started, Conner Threepwood had been the star of the show. He had been able to slay every dragon. Conquer every monster. Survive everything thrown at him. The Hangman had been unshakeable. Unslayable. He had not been knocked prone. He had not been knocked off his feet. He had not been broken. This was the recipe for something that had the entire crowd’s interest. They were into everything. They were into the slow way Threepwood came out of the corner towards the unmoving Hangman. Threepwood went for a takedown but Hangman shrugged him off. He went for another takedown and was again shrugged off. He went for a waist lock and Hangman tossed him across the ring. This made Threepwood grin. He came after Hangman again but was again tossed across the ring. The Hangman launched into his attack from here. Big rights and lefts. Big elbows. He slammed Threepwood. He dropped the elbow into the center of Threepwood’s chest. He picked Threepwood up and hit him with a devastating standing headbutt. He tossed Threepwood up and out of the ring. Threepwood took the butt-whooping. He took punishing hit after punishing hit from The Hangman -- but every time The Hangman went for a cover, Threepwood kicked out. He absorbed a wicked Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker that he kicked out of -- but The Hangman didn’t look rattled. He looked stoic. He lifted Threepwood up and went for a Choke Slam but Threepwood slid out of his grip and hit a chop-block that stagger Hangman. The crowd gasped as he hit another and it staggered him again. He went for a third but Hangman lifted his leg out of the way. Hangman went for a big clothesline but Threepwood ducked. When Hangman turned around, Threepwood hit him with a clothesline that staggered the big man. A second clothesline staggered him more. The third was interrupted by Hangman’s boot being introduced to Threepwood’s face. That was followed up by a masive Choke Slam and senior CWI official Jez McArthur counted the one...the two...the three… and we had a new champion!</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Hangman wins it! Yes! Yes!

Now let him hold it forever!

Excellent show again, my friend.

Thank you! The Hangman was not originally scheduled to win the belt here -- but the loss of Sayeed Ali right before Circle City Classic meant I had to redo some plans, so his capturing the title moved up.

This was also the first time, I think ever in a diary for me, where I let the AI decide the winner of a match (the battle royal). I never use the autobooker and pick the winners and finish for everything (even though I have picked the wrong winner before on accident). I decided to let the AI pick this one just to see what they'd come up with -- I should have known it would be Elmo.

I blinked several times as I looked up from the paperwork in front of me. July had been a good month for us. God, America, and Pro Wrestling was a really good event where we crowned our new Mid American Champion. I liked Virgil. The big man had worked hard since getting brought in and had really developed into a top wrestler. He was loaded with potential and continued to improve each time he was out. He was one of the most popular wrestlers on my roster. With the loss of Sayeed Ali, he was my top singles heel and I wanted to have a good heel champion. Ali had been penciled in to carry the belt from January through the summer and into the fall. Plans had changed and I went with Virgil. I was happy with that decision. He'd be a good champion. He would work a different style and required me to book him differently, but that was fine. He was the classic kind of monster heel champion.

There was a ding from my computer. I looked up and noticed I had a new Twitter notification. I clicked from my spreadsheet with our financial information over to Twitter.

This had to be a joke. PJ signed an exclusive deal with CWA? This wasn't right. He hadn't called me to let me know. I didn't expect to have him for long and I knew I'd have until the end of the month to finish him up, but I wasn't close to being done with his program. He was supposed to be the one to take The Hangman off of his feet. He was going to bodyslam Hangman and drop the leg and win the title and sell lots of tickets. Obviously now that wasn't going to happen. I picked up the phone.

"Andrew. Mark. It's Marv. When can you guys get here? We have to figure something out."

They answered and I hung up the phone. Mark and Andrew had become my my right hands. They had become my sounding board. The guys I bounced ideas off of. We were going to have to figure out what our long term plan was going to be now. Who were we going to build to eventually take the title off of him, to bump him for the first time. This was going to take some figuring out.

The day went by rather uneventfully. I hadn't been able to get PJ on the phone, but he was out on the lake with some friends of his. I didn't expect to get him on the phone. He'd call me back later. Mark, Andrew, and I had figured out our plan until New Year Scramble -- though I had a rough sketch until Circle City Classic III. We had a lot of time between now and then, but I knew where I wanted to go and hopefully how to get us there. With the nature of our business being the instability and unreliability of plans, I knew they were only tentative, but that didn't stop me from making them. I felt good having a plan. I felt good knowing where I was going and just trying to get us there. If all went according to plan, we would be in great shape -- but things rarely went according to plan.

Railroad City Rumble would be where we finished out PJ Strong. He'd lose to Dreadnought in a singles match and that would be that. Dreadnought would have the huge win over PJ and be set up to be an even bigger star and PJ would do the favors on the way out. It made sense. It was the right thing to do for business and it would close that feud out even if it was a little earlier than I wanted to close it out.

There was another ding and I saw that I had another Twitter notification. Hopefully, this one would be better news.

YveHAWK.png?1

"Fu..." I started to say out loud and then trailed off. This wasn't good. PJ shattered his knee? He already had a bad knee from football. A shattered knee could legit end his career. It probably would. He'd never walk right again. He'd need a limp or a cane. I was almost sure of it. He didn't even have a year in the business and this?

Then I realized. Wait. This meant he was out of Railroad City Rumble. This meant he was out of when I needed him to lose to Dreadnought. Son of a.. Now it was back to the drawing board one more time. August was not starting off great.

Now that we are in August of 2021, I thought it would be interesting to see who has potentially suffered career-ending injuries (that sounds very macabre when I say fun) so that you can all see who is potentially done.

  1. PJ Strong - Shattered Knee, took legs down to 0 so I should retire
  2. Poison Ivy - I originally reported that she signed with CWA, but that was a mistake it was only Pinky who did. Ivy suffered a partially severed spinal column that took her body down to 0.
  3. Hombre de La Energia - Herniated Spinal Disc that took his body to 0
  4. Beau Builder - Badly herniated spinal disc that took his head to a 0
  5. Taro Shionoya - Broken neck that took body to 0
  6. Petr Novak - Semi Severed Spinal Column, body to 0
  7. Naoya Shinozaki - Badly Herniated Spinal Disc, head to 0
  8. Brute Kikuchi - Broken neck that took body to 1 and head to 5
  9. Titan - Broken neck that to head to 1 and body to 3
  10. Matt Sparrow - Badly herniated spinal disc that took head to 0
  11. Aaron Andrews - Semi-severed spinal column, took body to 0 and did retire
  12. TJ Bailey - Semi-Severed Spinal Column that took body to 0

There have been several other major injuries to people that have kept them out at least a year (or will keep them out at least a year) but don't look career threatening because they did not take their body down to a 0.

  1. Masatochi Kamimura - Torn Quad
  2. Maria Guest - Semi-Severed Spinal Column, took her body down to a 16 but she did return (suffered in Apr. 2020)
  3. Kaede Sugiyama - Torn quad
  4. Flip Simkins - Torn Meniscus
  5. Nicolas Lopez - Torn rotator cuff
  6. Ultra Spark Jr. - Badly herniated spinal disc that took head to 24
  7. Donte Dunn - Badly herniated spinal disc that took head to 29
  8. Giancarlo Giabroni - Semi-severed spinal column that took body to 6 but did return from
  9. Hijo del Relampago - Herniated Spinal disc
  10. Demarcus Lee- Torn rotator cuff
  11. Burning EXILE - Major Concussion
  12. Ogai Miki - Torn Achilles
  13. Kid San Juan - Badly herniated spinal disc
  14. SPEED D - Torn quad
  15. Xavi Ferrera - Torn quad
  16. Foxxy LaRue - Major Concussion
  17. Dylan Drama - Major Concussion
  18. Hawkeye Calhoun - Torn meniscus
  19. Suguru Emoto - Herniated Spinal Disc
  20. Jaguar Queen - Torn rotator cuff
  21. Teddy Powell - torn rotator cuff
  22. Dean Daniels - Torn Quad
  23. Tetsunori Yasuda - Torn Quad
  24. Yuri Yoshihara - Torn ACL
  25. Shiori Jippensha - Torn Rotator Cuff
  26. Roger McMahon - Broken neck

As you can see, there have been 12 injuries that might be career ending (10 of them took something to 0 so they will end their careers, workers retire when anything hits 0, but two of the guys went to a 1 so they may or may not. There have been 26 more injuries that are at least a year long. My injury settings are at a medium, guys and gals are just getting banged up!

I also thought I could update on who has all died in the game. The following workers have all died:

  1. Commander Kawagishi - 31 years old, infected by rabid badger
  2. Shane Sneer - 64 years of age, no cause listed
  3. Kazu Yoshizawa - 69 years of age, no cause listed
  4. Danny Rushmore - 50 years of age, no cause listed
  5. Magdalena - 49 years of age, no cause listed
  6. Fabulous Frank - 62 years of age, no cause listed
  7. Vin Tanner - 53 years of age, no cause listed
  8. Stunner Okazawaya - 68 years of age, no cause listed
  9. Teadoro Nieto - 63 years of age, no cause listed
  10. Marcus McKing - 65 years of age, no cause listed
  11. JD Morgan - 52 years of age, no cause listed
  12. Ernie Turner - 45 years of age, no cause listed
  13. Pat Deacon - 75 years of age, no cause listed
  14. Kimitada Ohishi - 63 years of age, no cause listed
  15. African Earthquake - 53 years of age, no cause listed
  16. Richard Eisen - 65 years of age, no cause listed
  17. Armando Guerrero - 33 years of age, gunned down by SWAT Team after miscommunication
  18. Joao Vincente - 41 years of age, no cause listed

18 people have passed away in my game since the start and only 2 have been bizarre/Kenny deaths. My death frequency is also medium.

I felt like now was a good time to do those updates. If there is a specific worker you would like an update on (whether you want to know what they are doing/where they work/etc...) feel free to ask in the comments. There has been A LOT of worker movement, especially at the top levels.

I was just in the process of voicing how little I was looking forward to PJ taking the title off Hangman (I knew that's where things were headed as soon as he won the belt) but now I feel like my distaste for Hogan-esque heroes cursed PJ

I actually have a distate for Hogan-esque pushes as well, but PJ's charisma and star quality were so damn high that I wanted to milk it while I could, he also came in with like, 35 popularity or so, so he was already a significant name for me. I figured I would lose him at some point, just didn't realize it would be both so soon and that his career would effectively be over before it ever really got started!

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis started August off in Bloomington, Indiana for another spot show. The show continued CWI's streak of very well-received spot shows.

The show opened with Egon Merowitz getting a much-needed win when he defeated Perry Longstaff.

Bear Barnes defeated Clark Smallbone in singles action.

Reece & Wells secured a victory when they defeated Allie Perks and Yvonne Ericks.

The main event saw Samson Sharpe successfully defend the CWI Indiana Heavyweight Championship against rival Wild Red Stallion.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis returns to the Fountain Square Theatre on the third Saturday of the month of August with the second annual installment of Railroad City Rumble. This show will see the COTT World Heavyweight Championship come to CWI for only the second time as reigning champion Doc Hammond returns to the Fountain Square Theatre to take on the COTT's newest signing, Des Davids. Des Davids, the 6'5", 260 pound athlete has been one of the hottest wrestlers on the planet the last four years and is a major signing for the Confederation of the Territories. This is the first time he and Doc Hammond will have ever clashed.

That's not the only big match on the show. Elmo Benson, fresh off of winning the Independence Slam, will challenge the new COTT Mid American Champion, The Hangman, for the championship in a match that seems one-sided on paper, but Benson is a very experienced wrestler who is used to wrestling bigger men and should definitely have some strategies to potentially shock the city of Indianapolis.

Demelza Wade is coming to CWI to challenge Felicia Luck. Luck has rolled off several big wins in a row, including over Steph Blake, Raven Nightfall, and Becca Barton will have her hands full with the 23 year pro.

The Indiana Heavyweight Championship will be on the line when red-hot "Spicy" Pepper Pelton steps into the ring with the reigning champion, the big "Lone Star" Samson Sharpe. Plus Davis Wayne Newton makes his CWI debut when he challenges Conner Threepwood. American Gold look to get back the Tag Team Titles against Bred for Battle and so much more!

A/N: I'm not sure when I will get this show up. Eyreo and I purchased a house that we are moving into next week [we technically close on Monday] so we are going to be very busy over the next week or so as we finish packing and cleaning and moving. It is entirely possible I'll have this show up in next couple of days, but it could also take about a week. Just giving you a head's up.

Just curious... what's up with Tommy Cornell, Chance Fortune, Riley McManus, Zoe Ammis, and Alicia Strong?

Tommy Cornell is still employed by 21CW. He was in the 2020 Tag Team of the year with Edward Cornell. He hasn't won any championships since the game started. He's averaging an 88 in match rating with his lowest match since the game started a 74 and his highest a 100.

Chance Fortune left TCW in June 2020 and has been working in FCW since August of 2020. He's been one of their standout wrestlers but has not won any championships since heading to Puerto Rico.

Riley McManus has become one of the top stars of NYCW. He won the King of New York Battle Royal in 2020, he and Andrew Harper won the NYCW Tag Team Titles for two months and he has been consistently a featured performer on their roster and man do I miss him.

Zoe Ammis is happily employed in CWA and has not won any championships there but has consistently worked and put on respectable performances.

Alicia Strong has resigned with USPW. She's the reigning Women's Wrestler of the Year from 2020 and has been tearing down the house. She has not won any championships since the start, but she has been on almost every show. She's averaging an 82 in match rating with her highest being a 94 and her lowest being a 73. She's also begun a romantic relationship with Sammy the Shark/Sammy Smoke.

Awesome... though I wish that Chance would break out ala Shawn Michaels and finally win the big one. I don't know why, but I've liked the guy ever since I first saw him in TEW. Same with Zoe... I feel in love with Agent 69 back in the day. Surprised about Cornell and Strong not being champions... and ewe Sammy The Shark... she could do so much better.

Armando Guerrero - 33 years of age, gunned down by SWAT Team after miscommunication

That sounds like a very Mexican way to go.

Surprised Suguru Emoto is the only BCG name on that list. No shortage of injuries on my BCG save

It was in Australia! I didn't know Australia had a SWAT team!

And Emoto isn't the only one to get injured, just the only one to be out at least a year. Funakoshi was out six months with a broken leg. Several of the other talents have had chronic back pain or ligament damage, etc... but are able to keep on trucking.

I also updated the champions page to include defences as well as the roster page!
