Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was back in action in Edinburgh, Indiana for another great night of professional wrestling action.

The opening match saw highly touted prospect Adam MacDonald defeat "Bump Machine" Ben Williams.

The Taggs defeated Lance Austin and Joseph Chang.

Marco Gonzalez, son of the late Shawn Gonzalez, made his CWI debut with a win over Luis Torres.

In the main event, Hank Gunn defeated One Man Army in a rematch of their time-limit draw match.

CWI was in Bloomington, Indiana for the first-ever Ladies' Night! The crowd in attendance was very excited to see CWI present an all women's show.

The opening match saw "Dangerous Woman" Piper Hale defeat "Perks and Wrecks" Allie Perks.

The San Diego Girls got a win over Annette Kerr and Frances Harris.

Ashley Keith, niece of legendary Sam Keith and cousin to BHOTWG World Heavyweight Champion Matthew Keith and SWF standout Greg Gauge defeated young House of Stone standout Stella Saint by submission when she locked in the Proton Lock.

Luchadoras Esperanza Montero and Frankie Carmello teamed up to defeat two House of Stone graduates in Aubree Bailey and Merryl Lavoie. Montero and Carmello will probably not be teaming together in the future based off their chemistry.

The Main Event of the night saw Black Diamond get a big singles win over Apache Nation wrestler Tzilla.

CWIWrestling.com received the following video and we wanted to make it publically available to our fans.

D.C. Rayne was sitting in a chair in front of the video. Nothing fancy.

Rayne, "In April, Nate DeMarcus shocked the world when he pinned my shoulders to the mat in Indianapolis, Indiana. That win got him a title shot that he won. He's now Mid-American Champion and I'm left standing here with a loss on my record and anger in my heart. In April, I went into a match with Nate DeMarcus with an injured knee and a temperature of 102 degrees that had me seeing double -- and I still almost beat him. It took me being sick and injured for him to beat me but guess what Nate? I'm not sick anymore. I'm not injured anymore -- and I demanded another opportunity at you. I demanded to have you in the ring and I got that. I'm coming for you at School's Out. You beat me and I leave CWI and you can be the man. I beat you and I take the Mid American Championship and I begin the Reign of Rayne. It all starts at School's Out. I hope you're ready for me at 100%, because you could barely handle me before."

Author's Note: The roster page has been fully updated with talent that no longer works for CWI being removed and the roster being current. You'll notice that the roster has now been split into male and female sections -- this was really done to facilitate the easy of updating it for myself. I also added a section for extra workers -- who I listed without pictures. These are talents that only appear on the secondary shows and are primarily enhancement talents. They don't all have longterm deals but I wanted to list them nonetheless.

I also have to thank my wife, Eyreo, who made all new text dividers for the roster since we went from it saying active to male/female. She has also made all of the tag team smush pictures and all of the stable graphics (bar the American Ambition one), so I have to give her all the credit there!

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

86 people in attendance (a decrease of 9 fans in attendance from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome for the third annual Circle City Classic. We are back at the Fountain Square Theatre for what promises to be another great night of professional wrestling action. Tonight, Nate DeMarcus attempts to make his first Mid American Championship title defences as he takes on D.C. Rayne in a match with incredible stakes. D.C. Rayne was so confident that he would win -- he put his CWI career on the line. Felicia Luck challenges for the Women’s Title. And so much more. Joining me tonight to call the action is my broadcast colleague Mark Hyatt.”

Hyatt, “It’s great to be here Marv. I can’t wait for all of the action that we have in store for our fans. Xavi Ferrera makes his CWI debut tonight -- and I think he’s the next big star for Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. You’ll find that out tonight!”

Matt Blackburn versus “The Sasquatch” Bear Barnes

The twenty-two-year-old Matt Blackburn had his hands full with the 6’11” Sasquatch of a man, Bear Barnes. Blackburn had been developing into quite the worker through all of his time in PGHW. The young man had good all-around skills, but favored a hard-hitting approach. Bear Barnes was all physicality and power. He practically mauled Blackblurn -- who only got in a small amount of offense at the beginning before Bear Barnes went to work. After a short, physical match, Barnes hit the WidowMaker to get the win.

In an extremely short match, Bear Barnes defeated Matt Blackburn in 4:58 by pinfall with a WidowMaker.

"Fully Loaded" Hank Gunn versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell ©

Hank Gunn had been very impressive recently -- including a big win over One Man Army in his last CWI appearance. Last month, Zippy Deverell and his crew put Mr. Grappling on the shelf when The Taggs Spike Piledrove him on the outside of the ring. Gunn took exception to that and was also looking to defend the honor of Indiana’s Finest. The crowd was very into this match -- they hate Zippy Deverell with all the best kind of heat. He yelled at the front row. A woman tried to throw her drink on him. There was definite showmanship here. Gunn was developing into a good all-around babyface. His fundamentals were tremendous and he was quite flashy with his work, which made him a good babyface. This was a very basic/classic match up. Gunn got some good shine in the beginning of the match before Deverell used a rake to the eyes to seize control. He focused on the neck and really worked Gunn over for several minutes with basic, effective offense and then Gunn made a big comeback and Zippy took several big bumps throughout the match and when Hank Gunn went for the Super Kick, Zippy dropped down and rolled out of the ring. He reached under the ring and pulled something out that he put on his hand.. It was a Coal Miner’s Glove. Hank Gunn came to pull Zippy back into the ring and Zippy blasted him with the glove -- referee Bret Graveson was out of position so he did not see it and Deverell was able to drop the glove back under the ring. Gunn was clearly out when Deverell picked him back up and hit the Spinning Bulldog and got the pinfall and the sixth successful defence of the Indiana Heavyweight Championship.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Zippy Deverell defeated Hank Gunn in 8:16 by pinfall with a Spinning Bulldog. Zippy Deverell makes defence number six of the CWI Indiana title.

Lucinda Lush walked through the curtain. It made wrestling news that her former charges, The Player’s Club, were no longer CWI employees but had been sent to PSW. She didn’t say anything, she just turned and pointed both of her arms at the curtain. After a long moment, it was pushed aside and the standout athlete, one of the NCAA’s best track and field athletes (he was a championship-winning hurdler) and eight year pro, Xavi Ferrera walked out. He looked like a million dollars on this entrance. He had an elaborate robe that was reminiscent of “Gorgeous” George DeColt’s robe styles when DeColt was a top heel for the APWF. His hair was perfectly coiffed and he looked like a star. He and Lush walked to the ring where Lush helped him take his robe off. Xavi smirked and sneered and fixed his hair like a true prima donna superstar heel.

"Spicy" Pepper Pelton versus Xavi Ferrera w/ Lucinda Lush

Xavi Ferrera was making his CWI debut here and the former FCW and PSW star was presented like, and treated like, a big deal. Pepper Pelton had not been able to capture the success he had at the end of 2021 so far in 2022 -- it had been an up and down year for the big man from Wisconsin, but he has shown development as a wrestler. He clearly looked like a star, he had incredible athleticism and stamina (especially for a man his size) and the twenty-two-year-old recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin (who was not drafted by the NFL) looked to be putting all of the other tools together to be consistent. This was a flip on the classic style pro wrestling match. Normally, the babyface sells for the bulk of the match as the heat gets the heel, but this match had a long opening shine spot. Xavi kept rushing at Pelton, who used his power to toss Xavi around. Xavi was clearly getting frustrated by his inability to take control of the match. Lucinda Lush hopped up on the apron when Pepper looked like he was going for a Gorilla Press Slam, and that allowed Xavi to take control of the match and Xavi never looked back. He kept the stronger man down so that he couldn’t get his legs under him for any power. He taunted and he primped. He hit perhaps the most beautiful dropkick in the wrestling business to drop Pelton and then Xavi hit the High Impact Frog Splash that he had made famous -- and the elevation he got was incredibly impressive and Xavi Ferrera got the big win in his debut.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Xavi Ferrera defeated Pepper Pelton in 9:12 by pinfall with a High Impact Frog Splash after Lucinda Lush interfered.

The San Diego Girls made their way to the ring where Taylor Gordy was waiting for them.

Gordy, “Ms. Quick and Ms. Malloy, you asked for some time here tonight to address the CWI faithful. I have to ask -- why?”

Malloy, “Well Taylor, that’s because we have some great news for the CWI fans.”

Gordy, “What good news?”

Malloy, “Earlier this month, down in Bloomington, CWI held a Ladies’ Night event -- where it was just women’s wrestling action and it was so well received that now every month in Bloomington we will be presenting Ladies’ Night.”

Gordy, “That is great news.”

Quick, “If I can jump in here, it is great news -- but we aren’t just out here to deliver news.”

Gordy, “You’re not?”

Quick, “Nope. We’re here to put it out that that we want Tag Team Titles brought to CWI. Coco and I take pride in being one of the best women’s tag teams in North America. We’re both excellent singles wrestlers, but together we are even better. We want CWI to bring Women’s Tag Team Titles into the fold and this is our official request for that to happen.”

Gordy, “That’s quite the request!”

Quick, “We know and that’s why we are encouraging fans to go on sxicial media and let CWI know that you want to see them add tag titles for the women wrestlers here. If you all request it, they will listen.”

Gordy, “Well there you have it folks. Ladies’ Night will be a permananet thing in Bloomington, Indiana and The San Diego Girls want to see Tag Team Titles come to the Women’s Division here in CWI. If you agree with them, make sure to let your voices be heard on your social media pages.”

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Honey Badger

This match had been building since February. They had met two times in singles matches prior to this match and had split them 1-1. Badger had been very physical in their matches and had left Stone-McFly laying multiple times. With this being a No Disqualification match, the two women got a little bit more physical than they had been -- which is saying something. They took the fight all around the ring -- and up the entryway and then back to the ring. Some steel folding chairs got used and the two women really took it to each other. Badger hit a big German Suplex where Lucy landed on a chair and got a near fall -- Lucy just barely managed to kick out in time. Lucy ducked a Flying Knee attempt and when Honey Badger turned around, she ate a Delorean Driver right onto a steel chair and Lucy Stone-McFly got the pin and the win.

In a superb match, Lucy Stone-McFly defeated Honey Badger in 14:45 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver.

"American Eagle" Roger Monteiro versus Funky Fedora

Coming out of the women’s match, we had a match that was built off of the triple threat six-man tag from last month. Funky Fedora and his group won the World Six-Man Titles in that match. Roger Monteiro, the captain of the Dog Soldiers, had an opportunity to score a big victory here over Funky Fedora and the crowd was really into this match. Roger was the consummate babyface. He could sell and really get sympathy -- and he did that perfectly against Funky. Fedora worked Monteiro over and the crowd loved booing Funky and cheering for Roger. Funky just had an arrogance about him that made him easy to boo. The match wasn’t fancy -- there weren’t a lot of ‘wow’ spots, but it told a story of Monteiro trying to fight from underneath to get the advantage on Fedora. Monteiro -- the veteran of the match, was able to take control and he blistered Fedora with some trademark chops to the chest and a Flying Crossbody that got a near fall. Monteiro began to bounce around the ring -- and the crowd knew that he was getting himself revved up for his Eagle Chop, but Fedora bailed out of the ring. Monteiro gave chase and when they came back in the ring, Fedora used a well placed thumb to the eye and a very dirty straight right hand to gain the advantage. He followed that up with a Snap DDT and got the win after resorting to such dirty tactics.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Funky Fedora defeated Roger Monteiro in 11:40 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics.

The crowd was preparing to go to intermission before the final two matches of the night when the lights went off. They all stopped in their tracks and when the lights came back on, “The Eighth Deadly Sin” John Greed stood in the center of the ring. The crowd was not expecting the former SWF North American Champion to be in the building and they weren’t sure whether to cheer or boo, but the diabolical man had a microphone in his hand.

Greed, “All men chase sin. Whether pride or gluttony. Whether lust or wrath. Whether avarice or slot. Or envy. All men chase these. Especially pro wrestlers. They chase pride and lust on a daily basis and leave a trail of reckoning behind them. Their envy and wrath leave broken homes and broken bodies but it is avarice that is the downfall of most. I am here to be the reckoning for a sport’s avarice and I start next month with the so-called great Nate DeMarcus. If he survives his match with D.C. Rayne, he will meet his reckoning in July.”

With that, John Greed walked out of the building and people went to intermission.

Felicia Luck versus Urena Frost ©

A rematch several months in the making. There have only been three women’s champions since CWI opened -- and two of them were in the ring here. Last month, Luck won the Memorial Day Slam, and $1000 and got this opportunity. Both women were on their A game in this match. Felicia Luck’s strikes hit hard and true and Frost was vicious in her attacks. Luck controlled the early portion of the match, she was just a step ahead of Urena Frost at each turn. Finally, Frost had to resort to a hair pull and a straight left hand to stop Luck’s momentum and seize control. When Frost had control, everything she did had, as Greg Popovich might say, that extra little bit of nasty. Her strikes landed a bit harder, each slam into the mat had a little bit more force. Luck made a big comeback and let off a barrage of strikes. Frost stumbled and Luck continued the assault. She hit a one-footed dropkick that was beautiful and different than most peoples. She hit a flying kick off the second rope that almost got her the victory. Luck went for her Lucky Strike, but Frost spun around her and hit her own Lunar Assault to get the victory and her fifth title defence.

In an exceptional match, Urena Frost defeated Felicia Luck in 15:22 by pinfall with The Lunar Assault. Urena Frost makes defence number five of the CWI Women's title.

If D.C. Rayne loses, he leaves CWI

h2XmyuI.jpgmmWyz8z.jpgrqaDjDy.jpg?1

"The Storm" D.C. Rayne versus Nate "the Great" DeMarcus ©

The main event of the evening was a rematch from April. D.C. Rayne claimed that He was not at his best so that Nate DeMarcus couldn’t be proud of his win. DeMarcus took the bait and here we were. In April, their match was violent and bloody, but this wasn’t. This was D.C. Rayne going on the attack right from the beginning and Nate being in jeopardy right from the start of the match. D.C. was like a predator who saw wounded prey. Nate sold wonderfully throughout the match as D.C. worked him down. Nate had several hope spots during the match, but D.C. cut him off at each turn. D.C. went to the top rope and came off for a Double Axe Handle, but Nate caught him around the waist and exploded with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex. Nate roared and the fans knew he was taking it into the next gear. From here on out, it was all Nate. He hit a big Stalling Suplex. He hit a Running Powerslam. He hit a Brain Buster -- all of which got him near falls and then Nate hit the Snap Tackle and D.C. got turned inside out before Nate pinned him and got the title defence.

In an exceptional match, Nate DeMarcus defeated D.C. Rayne in 20:35 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle. Nate DeMarcus makes defence number one of the COTT Mid American title.

Greed's promo on Schools Out was superb and threw the winner up in the air for me. But I see this match coming down to Nate DeMarcus continuing his run as the lead of CWI. I do hope Greed is kept around cause I always loved his character, but I know he must be costing a fortune to keep around.

Funky Fedora, the captain of the new World Six-Man Champions, came strutting out. He was in an all-white seersucker suit with a matching fedora. He looked like he just walked right off a night at Beale Street. He was carrying the World Six-Man Championship under his arm. Taylor Gordy was standing in the ring waiting for him.

Gordy, “Mr. Fedora, welcome.”

Fedora, “Baby it’s good to be here tonight.”

Gordy, “In May, you led Rafe Sashay and Phil Anders to the World Six-Man Championship. How do you feel?”

Fedora, “I feel like a damn Worlds Champion. I feel like a million bucks. Baby, I feel like a star. I feel like Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis is about to get funky. It’s about to get taken up a notch. Last month, when me and my boys became World Champions -- that’s right baby, World Champions -- I went back to Memphis and I went back to Beale Street and the drinks were on ol’ Funky Fedora. And we drank up a storm. We partied all damn night and then we went back to Case del Fedora and we partied some more baby.”

Gordy, “So you’re enjoying be a World’s Champion.”

Fedora, “Of course I am and big Funky and his bunch are in demand. We’re already lining up World Title defences all over the Confederation of the Territories. We’re going everywhere to put these belts on the line ‘cause baby, we’re the champs now. We’re going to be in Los Angeles. In San Diego. In Baltimore. In Toronto. In Vancouver. In Mexico City. We’re going everywhere.”

Gordy, “What about here? We know that the Dog Soldiers would love an opportunity to get back the World Six-Man Championships.”

Fedora, “We’ll see. They were great champions. Noble champions. They defended those belts all over North America, but they lost and it’s a new era -- and just last month I beat Roger Monteiro clean in the middle of the ring.”

Gordy, “It was anything but clean.”

Fedora, “I said clean. In the middle of the ring. Tonight, Rafe is going to take Wild Red Stallion to task and beat that big bastard too and then we’ll be out in Broad Ripple. The liquor will be flowing and it will be a party, baby. This is just the beginning.”

Funky Fedora left the ring all smiles.

Wild Red Stallion versus "The Man, The Myth, The Legend" Rafe Sashay

The first match of the night came after the finish of Circle City Classic, with Rafe’s team became the World Six-Man Champions. Stallion was the powerhouse of the Dog Soldiers. The 6’5” Lakota Warrior was an impressive physical specimen and was developing into a very good performer. While not a natural seller, his physical abilities were through the roof and his star quality was evident. Sashay was a perfect flamboyant heel. With his fro and his gait, he was a natural heat getter and the crowd was into this to a level higher than the actual wrestling quality. Stallion dominated the early portion of the match. He tossed Sashay around and flexed and showcased his raw power. Sashay tried to run and duck and dodge and the crowd booed the weasel who tried to avoid getting hurt. Stallion had Sashay back in the corner and when Bret Graveson demanded the break, Sashay threw a thumb into the eye of Stallion and went on the attack. Sashay’s offense was basic but he had all the charisma to make it seem more. After a few minutes of Sashay working over Stallion -- and Sashay doing The Grind, a taunt where he points at the crowd and swivels his hips in a grinding motion, Stallion made a comeback that included a big Military Press Slam and culminated with the Lakota Cutter and Wild Red Stallion got the victory.

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Wild Red Stallion defeated Rafe Sashay in 8:42 by pinfall with a Lakota Cutter.

Taylor Gordy stood in the ring holding a microphone when the sounds of “Hard Out Here For A Country Boy” hit the speaker system and the reigning Indiana Heavyweight Champion, Zippy Deverell, came walking out. He was cradling the Indiana Heavyweight Championship to his chest as he got in the ring. He adjusted the belt over his shoulder.

Gordy, “Welcome Mr. Deverell. We scheduled time for you to come out here today because the fans, the public, want to know a couple of things, but I suppose I should start off with asking you how are you?”

Deverell, “I’m the Indiana Heavyweight Champion. I’m making champion money. That’s how I’m doing.”

Gordy, “You’re the most successful Indiana Champion in history. Your first reign had five defences. Your second reign has had six so far. What do you attribute your success with the Indiana Championship to?”

Deverell, “Truthfully, the only time in my life that I’ve wanted to give love out is holding the Indiana Heavyweight Championship. Without this title, I have a hole in my chest that can’t be filled by anything else in this life -- but with this title.. With her.. I have a purpose. I have a reason to get up in the morning. I have a mission -- and that’s to stay Indiana Heavyweight Champion. That’s to stay at the pay window, getting championship pay. This title. She’s more than the belt. She’s more than a title. More than a championship. She’s the love of my life. She is my peace. She is my purpose. She is my freedom and I will do anything to make sure I don’t lose her.”

Gordy, “Her?”

Deverell, “Of course. What else would I call her? An it? That would be insulting. She is everything to me and I treat her like that. Again, I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she doesn’t leave my arms.”

Gordy, “Like how at School’s Out, you used the Coal Miner’s Glove to beat Hank Gunn and retain it..”

Deverell, “To retain her.”

Gordy, “I’m sorry, to retain her.”

Deverell, “Yes I did. That was my daddy’s glove. He wore it every day he went to work in those deep mines chasing a seam, before the decided it was easier to blow the top off the mountains and let the slag run down into the creeks and poison the water and the ground. They protected him for all those years and now that glove protected me and my love.”

Gordy, “Is that why you had your Army attack Mr. Grappling at Circle City Classic.”

Deverell, “He was coming for my love. He was coming for my spot at the pay window. He had to be stopped.”

Gordy, “But The Taggs Spike Piledrove him on the outside of the ring. On this very wood floor. They drove him head first and he hasn’t been seen since. We don’t know if he’ll ever be back. If he’ll ever wrestle again.”

Deverell, “That’s tough for him.”

Gordy, “You don’t care that you might have ended his career?”

Deverell, “Care about the possibility that I ended his career? Why would I care? Am I Mr. Grappling? Is his career mine? No. It’s not. My daddy is laying in a bed in the clapboard house he raised me in. He worked in the mines for his whole adult life. Worked his ass off providing heat and electricity for this country -- only to be made fun of. Called uneducated. Called a hillbilly. Told his industry was dirty and we needed to move away from it. So he lost his job. They closed down his mine and left him with nothing but his gloves and lungs full of coal dust. He’s sitting up in bed with the Black Lung, dyin’ from the work he did to put food on the table for me and my mama to eat. He ain’t gon’ live much longer -- so who has to take care of my mama? Me. This is how I take care of my mama. This sport.”

Gordy, “I’m sorry to hear all that but ---”

Deverell, “But nothing. You don’t care. You don’t care about my plight. Look at me. I ain’t go no other prospects. If I’m not using my two hands to earn a livin’, I’ve got nothing. Ain’t no one going to hire me for a nine to five. I can’t go work in an office. I can’t go sit behind a desk and answer the damn phones. I’ve got no choice but to do this. To be in this sport. To use my hands to put food on my table. To keep the lights on for my mama when my daddy goes to be with the Lord. This is all I got. And the Indiana Heavyweight Championship… My love… She makes sure I make the good money. She makes sure we get meat and milk and eggs and not just cans of beans and rice. She makes sure the heat and the electricity stays on. That the water stays running. That the truck can be fixed. My love… She provides and I have to keep her. I have to do whatever it takes to keep her. You think I’m worried about Mr. Grappling? You think I should be sorry because of what happened to him? Where is my apology? He tried to take something from me. He tried to take my love. He tried to steal from me -- and where I come from, if you try to steal from a man you get put down. I ain’t sorry for shit. I did what I have to do -- and if Mr. Grappling ever comes back, if he ever tries for my Love again, I’ll finish the damn job.”

Zippy Deverell rolled out of the ring and stormed away, leaving Taylor Gordy speechless.

The San Diego Girls versus The War Maidens [Diamond & Neema]

Someone in the CWI advertising department messed up when they double-advertised Urena Frost. This match was Black Diamond and Talia Neema teaming up against the San Diego Girls. Last month, the San Diego Girls made the request for Women’s Tag Team Titles to come to CWI as a fulltime belt and while CWI management was taking that under consideration, they gave the San Diego Girls an opportunity to make their case. Diamond and Neema were no slouches on their own end -- Talia Neema having been one half of the COTT World Women’s Tag Team Champions and a former EWA Women’s Champion. Both teams were on their a-game here. The San Diego Girls were clearly the more polished duo -- having spent more time teaming together, but the natural chemistry between the War Maidens was on display. Diamond and Neema just knew how to work together and they also weren’t afraid to manipulate the rules to get the match in their favor. Frost and Neema isolated Izzy Quick for most of the match, working The Mighty Atom over with quick tags in and out and double team moves. Neema worked more of the European Catch style in this match. She worked lots of holds on the smaller woman while Diamond had that Southern brawling style down pat. Quick was able to Leap Frog over Diamond and make the diving tag to Coco Malloy who came in and cleaned house. Diamond and Neema took big bumps off of Malloy’s offense and the crowd was roaring with approval as Malloy hit several big hip tosses and dropkicks. She even hit both Diamond and Neema with big Back Body Drops that sent both women flying through the air. Malloy made the tag back to Izzy Quick and she and Coco hit Talia Neema with the Mission Beach Missile and Izzy made the cover and The San Diego Girls got the big tag team win.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, The San Diego Girls defeated Black Diamond and Talia Neema in 14:02 when Izzy Quick pinned Talia Neema with a Mission Beach Missile.

The Taggs w/ Haley Buck versus American Gold ©

American Gold attempted to make their first defence of the CWI Tag Team Championship against the menacing team of The Taggs. The brothers from Montana have established themselves as a major player in CWI -- and it was just six weeks ago when they drove Mr. Grappling’s head into the hardwood floor of the Fountain Square Theatre. Haley Buck was at ringside with her mason jar of moonshine that she occasionally drank from as the match happened. At the beginning of the match, American Gold’s speed was too much for the Taggs. Gold wrestled quickly. Double leg takedowns and quick tags in and out to keep the Taggs from getting settled in. English hit the ropes but was tripped up by Haley Buck. The trip distracted Marcus English and allowed the Taggs to seize control. The Taggs could be best classified as a smashmouth style team. Their offense was incredibly physical and in-your-face. They worked over Marcus English and kept him on their side of the ring. Their double team offense has really developed over the year and some change that they have been full time members of the CWI roster. Wolfie worked over Marcus for a long stretch -- including several backbreaker variations. While The Taggs tend to favor the Spike Piledriver, they wanted to take the explosiveness away from Marcus English and to do that, they had to get the small of his back to seize up. Wolfie tagged in Kalder and then butterflied Marcus on the mat. With his arms trapped and his back exposed, Marcus English could do nothing to stop Kalder driving a big knee right into the small of his back. English was in a world of trouble as the Taggs set up for a Spike Piledriver, but English managed to dump Kalder over with a back body drop that allowed him to tag in Chamberlain. The fresh Chamberlain was like a supernova in the ring. He flew across the ring with a spinning wheel kick for Wolfie and then a sky-high dropkick for Kalder. He snap suplexed both members of the Taggs and then he took to the sky with a Flying Crossbody onto both members. Kalder, the illegal man, rolled to the outside as Chamberlain pulled Wolfie to his feet. English was back up and he drove his foot right underneath Wolfie’s chin. Wolfie spun around and Maliek caught him with a big Belly to Belly Suplex and American Gold had successfully defended their CWI Tag Team Championship.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, American Gold defeated The Taggs in 15:21 when Maliek Chamberlain pinned Wolfie Tagg with a Superkick/Belly To Belly Combo. American Gold make defence number one of the CWI Tag Team.

American Gold were on their way to the back when The Texas Express walked out from behind the curtains. The two teams just stared at each other for a long moment before The Texas Express pointed at the Tag Team Titles. American Gold looked at their belts and then at the Express. They looked back at the ring and they nodded. No words were said, but it was clear that these two teams were on a collision course for the CWI Tag Team Titles.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Urena Frost ©

Several months ago, Lucy Stone-McFly and Urena Frost went toe to toe in a match that Lucy Stone-McFly almost pulled it off and had it not been for Honey Badger. Last month, Lucy survived a No Disqualification match up to get this shot against Urena Frost and the two women went about putting on one of, if not the best, matches the women’s division had seen. It was built slowly. The match began with chain wrestling that showed both women’s technical prowess. They went hold for hold for several minutes, and Stone-McFly seemed to come out on top with each exchange. Urena seemed to get more frustrated as Stone-McFly kept coming out with the advantage. There was a good exchange where Stone-McFly kept finding a way to get Urena in a hammerlock. No matter how Urena tried to wrestle out of it, the second-generation wrestler was able to keep the grip. Finally, Frost broke down and threw a closed fist punch right to the jaw of Stone-McFly that dropped the young Canadian. Frost pushed past Bret Graveson and his warning that more closed fists would get her disqualified. Frost went right to work on Stone-McFly -- focusing on the neck. Frost hit several knee drops to Stone-McFly’s neck. She worked a Dragon Sleeper. She wasn’t able to get the submission, but it was clear that Lucy was in a world of pain from the hold. Frost hit her with three straight Cravat Suplexes that added extra torque to the neck. Frost hit a standard Neckbreaker that got a nearfall and immediately went right back into a Dragon Sleeper that continued to put pressure on the neck of Lucy Stone-McFly as her head was pulled towards the center of her back. Frost was getting frustrated that she could put Lucy Stone-McFly away. She hit her with a Brainbuster that got another near fall and then Frost took it to the middle rope where she came off with a big Leg Drop that got another near fall. She started to argue with Bret Graveson that he was not counting fast enough, but Graveson reminded her that it was just a two count. With Frost being distracted, Stone-McFly was able to pull herself to her feet. Urena turned around and Lucy hit her with a hard Canadian Uppercut (okay, it’s just the standard European Uppercut, but this is territory wrestling darnit). The Uppercut rocked Frost and Stone-McFly went on the attack. Her offense was slowed by her consistently having to try to work out her neck to loosen it up and give her a full range of motion. Stone-McFly hit several snap suplexes to try and work Frost over and they were successful in getting Lucy some momentum. She hit a big Top Rope Dropkick that sent Frost flying across the ring -- but Lucy was unable to capitalize on because of landing on the mat and the pain it put on her neck. As Lucy got to her feet, Urena was also on her feet. They had an exchange of forearms -- a very modern thing, because who just stands there and lets their opponent hit them -- that Lucy came out the better of. Frost was on spaghetti legs when Stone-McFly leapt up and wrapped her legs around Frost’s neck and flipped her over for the Frankenstoner that got her a nearfall before Frost was able to kick out. There wasn’t a person sitting in their chair as Lucy stood up and stomped her feet on the canvas. The crowd started to clap along as Urena Frost stumbled to her feet. Lucy lifted her into the air and managed to hit a Delorean Driver that would make her daddy proud and get the three count and we had a new Women’s Champion!

In an exceptional match, Lucy Stone-McFly defeated Urena Frost in 34:20 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver. Lucy Stone-McFly wins the CWI Women's title.

"The Eighth Deadly Sin" John Greed versus Nate "the Great" DeMarcus ©

The main event of the evening had to follow the sensational Women’s Championship match -- and it did not disappoint. John Greed was a twenty-four year veteran who was past his sell-by date but definitely had the knowledge of ring wars to be successful. Nate DeMarcus was hitting his stride as a singles wrestler and having beat both The Hangman and D.C. Rayne in the past two months, he was looking primed for a big second half of 2022. While the previous match was a slowly built roller-coaster of a story, this was a match that would have fit in to any pro wrestling territory of days gone by. John Greed, the muscular veteran was desperate to hold on to any kind of spot and name he had in the business and he wrestled like a desperate man. He took every shortcut. He took every advantage he could. The younger DeMarcus was faster and stronger and more explosive, but it was the vetearn Greed that kept control of the match because of his willingness to not play by the rules. DeMarcus was the consummate babyface -- who kept refusing to stoop to Greed’s level until finally he couldn’t take it anymore and he hauled off and returned one of John Greed’s straight punches with one of his own. The crowd loved seeing Nate DeMarcus fire back and while Greed could not take the big bumps of his youth, his bumps were effective. He sold and scrambled. He slithered across the ring to get away. Greed powdered out of the ring anytime Nate DeMarcus got any amount of offense going. He used the ropes for leverage on the holds he locked in. He was the classic heel -- one that would have been Shane Sneer’s go to or would have been the perfect foil to Rip Chord in Texas or Preston Holt in California or Dick the Devastator in Florida or Dan Stone Sr. in Canada or Marcus McKing or Sam Strong. DeMarcus lifted John Greed high above his head and held him there. The crowd counted as DeMarcus began to do press rotations while holding Greed. He slammed Greed down into the mat for the biggest bump of the match and got a near fall. Greed countered a Snap Tackle into a DDT and got a near fall of his own. The crowd was at a fevered pitch by this point. Two back to back sensational matches that told classic pro wrestling stories. When Nate DeMarcus hit the Snap Tackle and John Greed spun inside out on his bump, the crowd exploded with cheers while Nate got his second successful title defence.

In an exceptional match, Nate DeMarcus defeated John Greed in 18:31 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle. Nate DeMarcus makes defence number two of the COTT Mid American title.
