I’m annoyed by wrestling nowadays where every match has all these big moves and dives. It’s boring when every match does everything, nothing feels special then. So this might be a small tidbit to add but I really liked that it was added. Going into the match though, Sashay pulls out a win to jumpstart some momentum, he did cheat though so maybe him & Anders vs. Gunn & Pelton will be in the future?</span></span><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> The first lady of the Keith Family, Ashley makes valid points about her complaints that CWI doesn’t reward winning. Too vindicate this she’s coming after the biggest fish in the pond and that’s LSM. The two legacies of these families will be clashing when they go one on one, but honestly I got tag team vibes from them. I could see them being a top level team especially with the new CWI Women’s Tag Titles finally having a home. I’m excited for the match next month!</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> I was surprised by the Juggernaut Jones appearance. I thought he’d be a one and done but now him, Xavi, Marco, & Lucinda are a faction. I’m curious as to why, they all did get beat by Nate DeMarcus, maybe Lucinda saw an opportunity for 6-man gold and worked magic to get the three of them together. Could be a good way too get Wild Red over too, he took down all three former 6-man tag champions and now if he does the same here, I’d say he earned himself a Heavyweight Title match.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> Even though it wasn’t too much of a match, Grappling & Hangman was my favorite part of the show. I’m glad Grappling wasn’t just a transition champion, and it’s good to see Hangman evolve with his return. Zippy getting involved was a good story finish, it kept Grappling champion and didn’t hurt either man. It made Hangman feel like more of a tweener with now his attentions on the crazed Deverall as well as the champion. Meanwhile Grappling still has Deverall on his tracks and he probably won’t get off till his precious is returned. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> The San Diego Girls got the titles they wanted, it’s a feel good story and most surprisingly they got the match of the night next to Nate & Funky. I’m curious as too who will gun for the titles first. </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> BLASHPHEMY!!! The Ring Generals lose to Texas Express!! Those hicks can’t even lace up the Generals boots!!! 0/5 stars!!! Down with the Express!!! (Damn 28 minutes!! </span></span><img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;">)</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> As soon as I saw Funky’s new look I felt the title change arriving. Nate’s broken arm was an easy way to get the title off him without making him look weaker. But it’s still weird to me that Funky even got the title match here. Also, I agree with MHero Funky Fedora sounds like the parody of a wrestler. But anyway to get some heat I suppose. I laughed at the leverage pin for the win cause not only did he have to break his arm but he also had to cheat to. I see Nate winning the belt back ASAP. Kind’ve like the feud between Sayeed and Conner from the start.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> Speaking of Conner I was so happy to see that we’ll be getting a Memorial Show for him in April. Well deserved, R.I.P the forever face of CWI.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">My CWI Awards</span></strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Wrestler of the Year:</span></strong></span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> Nate DeMarcus</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Female Wrestler of the Year:</span></strong></span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> Lucy Stone-McFly</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Tag Team of the Year:</span></strong></span></span><span style="font-family:System;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> Bred for Battle</span></span></p></div></blockquote>

I like reading diaries I'm chunks so I'm all caught up. Digging it so far! Hopefully the wrestling industry turning around will help you get some momentum and build size until you can get a deal with WrestleWorld. I think that's at 25 pop. How much money did you start with? How much you got now? Just curious.

Great read so far. Here's my picks:

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis Presents:

New Year Scramble

Saturday Week 1, January 2023

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre

Belltime 7:00 PM, Doors 6:30 PM

Main Event

Three Way Dance

Sixty Minute Time Limit

COTT Mid American Championship

Demon King versus Josh Jacobs versus Funky Fedora ©

Gotta build up Ric Fl... I mean Funky Fedora.

Tag Team Match

Sixty Minute Time Limit

CWI Tag Team Championship

The Italian Americans versus The Texas Express ©

Padding those title defenses.

Four Way Tag Team Elimination Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

Winner Receives A Shot at the Tag Team Titles

American Gold versus The Taggs versus The Dog Soldiers versus Anders & Sashay

I like The Taggs and just feel like they're due some momentum.

Singles Match

Sixty Minute Time Limit

CWI Women's Championship

"Red" Yvonne Ericks versus "The Monolith" Tameka Sky ©

Sky wins in a surprisingly competitive match to help build Red as a midcard title contender.

Singles Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Ashley Keith

I hope this is a multi-match rivalry while Sky pads her title defenses. The winner of this feud should challenge Tameka Sky in a Main Event some time this year. I'll say Keith cheats to win here.

Singles Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

"American Eagle" Roger Monteiro versus Marco Gonzalez w/ Lucinda Lush

I can see some outside shenanigans here. Marco has more upside as a singles star so I'll pick him.

Singles Match

Sixty Minute Time Limit

CWI Indiana Heavyweight Championship

"Lone Star" Samson Sharpe versus "Indiana's Finest" Mr. Grappling ©

Easy.

Opening Match

Tag Team Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

Hank Gunn & Pepper Pelton versus The Canadian Blonds

Let's kick the night off with an upset. Why not?

CWI’s fourth year started off with a very solid tag team contest. Hank Gunn and Pepper Pelton look like they are forming a fulltime team -- which could help both of them get back to stringing wins together. The Canadian Blonds had an up and down year with the loss of Ozzie and Davis and are hoping to get back to winning ways. This was a simple match that didn’t do too much and followed the very simple tag team formula. Hank Gunn took the heat and beating while the bigger Pepper Pelton got the hot tag. Pelton tossed Robin DaLay - -which was very impressive for the fans to see Pelton throw DaLay through the air with a big Belly to Belly Suplex -- but Flash was the legal man and Pelton locked him in the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Spice Rack</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and got the submission victory and started 2023 off strong.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Pepper Pelton and Hank Gunn defeated Canadian Blonds in 7:09 when Pepper Pelton submitted Flash Savage with a Spice Rack.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In terms of in-ring work, Flash Savage was head and shoulders above everyone else.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

"Lone Star" Samson Sharpe versus "Indiana's Finest" Mr. Grappling ©</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Mr. Grappling was putting the Indiana Heavyweight title on the line against Samson Sharpe -- the enforcer for Deverell’s Army. Over the last few months, Mr. Grappling has really developed into a star on the CWI roster and the big menacing cowboy made for a good opponent. It was clear that Sharpe was trying to hurt Grappling. Trying to throw big strikes -- especially that Lariat that he loves -- but Grappling was ready for it. He was able to duck under each lariat attempt. Grappling hit a German Suplex with a bridge that was very nice, but Sharpe was able to kick out of it. Sharpe was able to rebound from this and let off some hard shots -- the big cowboy could have a successful career in Japan -- but in the end, Grappling was able to lock in the Figure Four Leglock. Sharpe tired to fight out of it but Grappling kept it locked in and Sharpe was forced to submit.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Mr. Grappling defeated Samson Sharpe in 8:25 by submission. Mr. Grappling makes defence number four of the CWI Indiana title.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Last month, Roger Monterio found himself on the losing in of a match with Xavi Ferrera and a post match attack from the group we can apparently call FREEDOM. This month he had Marco Gonzalez -- the son of Shawn Gonzalez -- still looking to really cement himself in the world of pro wrestling. Neither man is a great wrestler -- but both are serviceable and they did the job they needed to do in the match. They told the story of a pissed off Roger Monteiro bringing the fight to Marco. Marco sold big for Monteiro who had all of the babyface fire that he should have. Lucinda was great at ringside -- screaming and playing the crazy woman. Juggernaut was ringside as the hulking menace and eventually those numbers got the better of Monteiro and Marco was able to take control with several backbreakers that set up for the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Latino Crab</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and get the submission victory.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

For the first time ever, Lucy Stone-McFly and Ashley Keith stepped into the ring with one another. Lucy, the third generation prodigy with wrestling coursing through her veins. Ashley the niece of one of the all time greats trying to make her own mark on the world and the sport. This was getting to watch to athletes that are going to be standard-bearers for the sport years before they are. There was something about each woman that screamed star and screamed must see. This was a slow battle. A technical battle. This was Stone versus Keith. Hold versus hold. The crowd was like a classic puro crowd. Quiet for long stretches but mostly so they could watch and appreciate the grappling happening. Neither woman threw a lot of strikes. They worked holds and suplexes and trainsitioned from suplex back into a hold and out of the hold into another suplex. Neither dominated the match. They went back and forth. Both locked in their signature familial holds -- the holds they inherited from families. Keith with the Proton Lock, a Muta Lock, and Stone-McFly locked in the Stone Hold, a sharpshooter, but neither was able to make the other one submit. These two were equals in every way and when thirty minutes expired the bell rang and we had a time limit draw.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Yvonne Ericks has been red hot the last several months, getting big win after big win and getting a lot of momentum in her corner. Tameka Sky, the Monolith, has been a monster of a woman. Unstoppable and here in here second title defense she had a very competitive match up with Yvonne Ericks. Ericks uses a strike heavy style and was focused on the legs of the 6’7” woman. Sky staggered around the ring and Ericks was able to chop her down to the mat but she wasn’t able to get the pin -- instead Sky kicked out with so much power she sent Ericks out of the ring. When Ericks got back into the ring, Sky was all over her. She tossed her around the ring like a ragdoll before slamming her several times. She locked in a big Bear Hug submission hold and Ericks was forced to tap out before her back was broken.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The four way elimination tag team match was contested under Four Way rules -- which meant one member from each team was in at once and could only tag their own partner. This made it more challenging for senior official Jez McArthur, but the veteran referee was up for the challenge. There was a combination of styles in this match that made for a really interesting presentation. Every team got an opportunity to shine. Wild Red Stallion hit the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Lakota Cutter</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> on Rafe Sashay to put out Anders & Sashay. The Taggs and American Gold went at it for several very competitive minutes. American Gold showed off a little extra dose of nasty, but ultimately the Taggs utilized a little outside interference from Haley Buck to get Marcus English set up for a </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Spike Piledriver</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and earn themselves a title shot.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, The Taggs defeated American Gold, Wild Red Stallion and Ace Youngblood and Phil Anders and Rafe Sashay in 17:11; the order of elimination was Phil Anders and Rafe Sashay first, then Wild Red Stallion and Ace Youngblood, and finally American Gold.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The CWI Tag Team Championships were on the line as former NYCW Tag Team Champions, the two big burly Italians known collectively as the Italian Americans came to Indianapolis to challenge the Texas Express. The Express have really hit a groove in the last few months. The crowd was really into this match. The Italian Americans aren’t what you’d call good wrestlers, but they were effective opponents for the Express. The Italian Americans isolated Turk and used their power and ruggedness to wear him down. Turk was able to make the tag though and Cooper came in with some big offense. He hit several clotheslines (not to be confused with lariats, there is a difference in how they are thrown), some big back suplexes and even a sky-kissing dropkick. Cooper took to the sky and leapt off the top rope with a big Elbow Drop to get the pin and successfully retain the Tag Championships.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Demon King versus Josh Jacobs versus Funky Fedora ©</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Demon King and Josh Jacobs both came out with their respective championships. It was designed to make the match feel like a big deal and it did. King and Jacobs both carried themselves like champions. Both looked like champions and stars and then there was Funky with his new look. With his bleached blonde hair and robe and even new tights (full length Memphis style tights) that were colorful and royal and looked like the tights of champions. The crowd was into everything. They’ve seen King and Jacobs on WrestleWorld so they’re very familiar with them which helped the heat of the match. They took their time with each man getting an opportunity to shine. Demon King is clearly on the back nine of his in ring career and he was the least active in the match. Jacobs and Fedora, on the other hand, went at it quite extensively. Jacobs hit Funky Fedora with a big Superkick that almost took Funky Fedora’s head off. Demon King hit Inverted DDT on Josh Jacobs that took Josh Jacobs out of the ring. Fedora flew across the ring and hit a big Jumping Knee on Demon King that set up the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Slingshot Back Suplex</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and gave Funky Fedora the title defense and a future shot at the COTT World Heavyweight Title.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In an exceptional match, Funky Fedora defeated Josh Jacobs and Demon King in 21:21 when Funky Fedora pinned Demon King with a Slingshot Back Suplex. Funky Fedora makes defence number one of the COTT Mid American title. </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis was back in Bloomington for another exciting Ladies Night of action. Coming off New Year Scramble, all eyes were on this show to see what would develop in the very competitive women's division.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Opening Match</strong>: In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Felicia Luck defeated Aubree Bailey in 8:05 by pinfall with a Lucky Strike.</p><p> </p><p>

Black Diamond came to the ring and let people know that she had every intention of making 2023 her year. She wanted to prove that she was the baddest chick in CWI and with the Femme Fatales at her sides Black Diamond was going to prove that there could be only one Diamond.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Second Match</strong>: In a decent match, Reece & Wells defeated The Hooligans in 14:51 when Ruby Reece pinned Helena Hooligan with a Double Super Kick.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Third Match</strong>: In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Urena Frost defeated Tzilla in 16:23 by submission with The Finnisher.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Main Event</strong>: In a decent match, Lucy Stone-McFly, Frankie Carmello and Daughters of Lucha Libre defeated Ashley Keith, Piper Hale, Storm and The Ice Queen in 21:31 when Lucy Stone-McFly submitted The Ice Queen with a Stone Hold.</p><p> </p><p>

In terms of in-ring work, Lucy Stone-McFly was head and shoulders above everyone else.</p><p> </p><p>

He sat in the quiet of his bedroom and stared down at his shoes. They were polished the way his daddy and granddaddy would have wanted them polished. They were shined until he could see his own reflection. Just over a week ago, he was in front of over a hundred paying fans cutting a promo and riling them up. Just a couple of hours ago, he put his father in the ground. He didn’t expect to be twenty-two and having buried his father, but Black Lung was no joke. He swallowed hard and rubbed his thumb against the opposite middle finger.</p><p> </p><p>

He could hear people in the living room. They were eating and talking somberly and telling stories in the little clapboard house that his father had purchased. It wasn’t much but his father was proud of it. It was his. He was the first in his family to own a home and he took pride in that. Zip had always been proud of that as well. Proud of the man his father was.</p><p> </p><p>

He leaned back and looked at the ceiling fan as it rotated slowly. How was he going to get through this? He blinked several times. He had been preparing himself for this for over a year. For when his father would pass. They had known that the Black Lung was a death sentence. They just weren’t sure how long he would have and the question got answered when they made the decision to pull the plug. He reached to his nightstand where last night’s beer. He took a long swallow from it and held the bottle.</p><p> </p><p>

He should be out with the people talking. Listening to their stories. Being a comfort to his mother in her time of grief, but he just couldn’t right now. He needed a moment. A moment to himself and his day-old beer and his freshly shined shoes. There was a soft knock on his door and it opened.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="q32tOPo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/q32tOPo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

“You okay, babe?” Yvonne asked in her soft voice.</p><p> </p><p>

He looked up with wet eyes and just shook his head no. He wasn’t okay. He wasn’t sure when he would be. He couldn’t bring himself to speak so he took another drink in silence. She understood. She didn’t say anything else. She just moved next to him on the bed and slid out of her heels and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. She didn’t have to say anything and he didn’t have to either. They’d only been dating a few months. Not long enough for her to have to be here with him during this, but she was. She was right next to him.</p><p> </p><p>

He wasn’t supposed to cry in front of her. It wasn’t masculine. His father was old school. He believed that a man held on to his emotions until he was alone. If it was a different day he might not of, but he had just buried his father and he couldn’t stop the tears. So he let them flow in rivers down his cheeks and fall into the carpet. She didn’t say anything. She just held him to her and let him cry.</p><p> </p><p>

After several minutes, he swallowed hard and straightened up. He finished off what was left of the beer and set the bottle back down. He stood up and turned to Yvonne.</p><p> </p><p>

“I need to be out there.” He said as he wiped his eyes on his jacket. She slipped her feet back into her shoes and stood up. She flattened out her dress.</p><p> </p><p>

“Then let’s be out there.” She said with all the support in the world. He took several deep breaths and held out an arm for her to take.</p><p> </p><p>

“Thank you.” He said as she slid her arm in his. She didn’t say anything. She just gave it a reassuring squeeze and for a moment Zippy could believe that it was going to be okay.</p>

I was reading the show and thinking "Man, much as I love Tameka Sky, Yvonne got shafted again putting Sky over". I scrolled down to write about that booking compared to her earlier narrative, then you just had to hit me square in the feels with the new one.

Well you know I like to hit right in the feels. I'm glad it carried some weight!

CWIWrestling.com was able to acquire the following video after New Year Scramble. There are some harsh words that we have censored, we just wanted to make you aware of it in advance.

uoEa8xj.png

Ring announcer and interviewer Taylor Gordy was walking backstage with a cameraman following him. It looked like he was headed towards the locker room area when he stopped. He pointed to the side and the cameraman turned. In what was set up to be a small eating area -- a couple of plastic card tables and some chairs with food wrappers and water bottles on it, Zippy Deverell had Deverell's Army gathered and Zippy did not look happy.

dbsbaKr.jpgYtDH66g.jpgkCrEAfB.jpgBfp5A7w.jpgpmWxq4s.jpg

Deverell, "Where were you guys out there? You're supposed to be my muscle. To have my back. That's what I brought you in for. That's why I made sure you kept a job, Sam. If that bastard had gotten a hold of me, I could have been put out of wrestling and I'd never get her back."

Zippy lifted up an empty water bottle and chucked it across the room.

Deverell, "At least you two." He motioned to the Taggs, "Got the job done tonight and got a victory. We need victories in this group and in two months -- at March Madness -- y'all better win the damn Tag Team Titles. I'm tired of people coming up short in this group. Like you Sam. What the hell was that out there tonight? You had one job. One damn job and you couldn't do it? Beat up Mr. Grappling and get her back so you could give her to me. That was your damn job."

Deverell leaned forward and suddenly smacked Samson Sharpe hard across the face and Samson Sharpe stared at him with cold eyes.

Deverell, "Next time I give you a job -- you go out there and do it. You understand me? You under-f*****g-stand me? Otherwise I'll go right to the office and I'll tell them we don't need your services anymore and you can go find work elsewhere because I'm tired of pulling dead weight. I've got enough on my damn plate."

A distraught, angry Zippy Deverell stormed off, pushing Taylor Gordy out of the way. Haley Buck looked at the three men.

Buck, "He means well, you know that. He's just been going through such a tough time since he lost the Indiana belt. Y'all know that. He just needs to get it back and he'll be good. Be patient with him."

She tried to reassure them. The Taggs shrugged like they weren't bothered and started to walk off. Haley looked at Samson.

Buck, "You coming?"

Sharpe, "I need a minute."

Haley nodded and walked off after the Taggs -- all of them passing Taylor and seeing the camera. None of them looked happy to see the camera there but they didn't say anything. Samson pulled a water bottle up to his lips and took a drink. The cameraman is pulled aside and a man in a black hat walks past. It was Hoss Handley.

KJ92cx8.jpg

Handley, "You really let that boy talk to you like that?"

Sharpe, "You heard that?"

Handley, "I'm pretty sure most of the damn building heard that. They got it on camera too."

Sharpe noticed the camera and looked up at the ceiling.

Sharpe, "F**k."

Handley, "I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to say that on camera."

Sharpe, "Probably not."

Handley, "You want to get a beer?"

Samson Sharpe nodded and the two men walked off. The camera turned to Taylor Gordy.

Gordy, "It looks like we have some problems in Deverell's Army. And what the hell was Hoss Handley doing here? Hopefully we will have answers soon."

The video feed cut.

Introducing the first graduating class of the No Oridnary Men Academy.

ZbVl0Kp.jpg

AC King

23 years old, Hispanic Male

Toned Lightweight

AC King is a Technician, trained at No Ordinary Men, who turned pro in December 2022. Hailing from Colorado, he is 5'9 and 203lbs and is adept at playing the fan-favourite or heel. He is adept at showing a bad ass streak. He usually finishes opponents with the 'Galactic Toe Hold'.

Marvin's Thoughts: AC is an interesting prospect. One of the first two graduates of the No Orindary Men Academy in Indianapolis, he's not tall or overly muscular, though he is in good shape. He's in incredible cardio shape -- his stamina is through the roof and he's incredibly athletic which give him some potential. He's got a good enough look that he could become something, especially in a regional old-school company. He's green as grass and definitely needs some seasoning but he's going to start out on the Edinburgh show staring up at the lights. His Galactic Toe Hold -- essentially the classic Spinning Toe Hold, isn't a bad finish. It's old school and it fits with what we're doing.

AXnx5xV.jpg

Victor Crash

20 year old Black Male

Muscular Heavyweight

Victor Crash is an Impactful Wrestler, trained at No Ordinary Men, who turned pro in December 2022. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he is 6'7 and 296lbs and is a natural babyface. He plays dominant, brutish gimmicks well. He utilises the 'Ice Backbreaker' as a finisher.

Marvin's Thoughts: Of the two men who graduated in the first class, Victor has the most potential to be a star. He's almost three hundred pounds and solid muscle. He's menacing -- damn menacing. He just looks ig and mean. He also has natural star quality to go with that menace. He's got some charisma and mic skills so with some promo time he could develop into a good talker -- not a great talker -- but a good talker. He's also strong as an ox and can wrestle all night -- which for a guy who is 6'7" and almost 300 pounds is impressive. He could be our first fully homegrown star if things happen right. He's going to start out on the Edinburgh shows and looking at the bright lights but as long as he doesn't f*ck it up, we'll get the machine behind him. His Ice Backbreaker -- a Butterfly Lungblower is absolutely devastating and could propel him to stardom.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis returns to the Fountain Square Theatre for Hoosier Hysteria. For the first time in CWI history, the World Tag Team Titles will be defended on the main stage as Bred for Battle defends their titles against current CWI Tag Team Champions, The Texas Express. What a battle this is set to be -- as these two teams meet for the first time ever.

The Hangman and Zippy Deverell will meet in singles action with a lot of bad blood between them. In a rematch from last month, Ashley Keith and Lucy Stone-McFly will go at it one more time. Will they wrestle to a draw a second time?

All of that and so much more.

Comments: Nice addition of saying "Main Stage" for the first defense since BfB won the belts on a live event show. Bred For Battle have been traveling champs, given you a breather from having to use them too much. I don't see them losing the titles here, in fact I have an idea of how this match may end. :3

Signs: "American Gold for Gold"

Singles Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

The Hangman versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell

Comments: I had to bold Hangman, cause ain't no way Zippy picks up the win here. I'm really liking the addition of Hangman to Grappling v Deverell. I'm curious how things will go going forward with it. Will Deverell's Army get involved? Will Grappling & Hangman team up? Is a triple threat inbound? Maybe Samson Sharpe gives Zippy a taste of his hand?

Signs: "Check Zippy's Glove"

Singles Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Ashley Keith

Comments: The resilient young ladies return after their draw last month to face off once more in another 30 Minute Match. Will there be a winner? I'm feeling another draw, if there is one I can see another time limit leading to them getting a 45 Minute match to try and settle the score.

Eight Woman Tag Team Match

Thirty Minute Time Limit

Yvonne Ericks, Felicia Luck & The San Diego Girls versus Tameka Sky & The War Maidens

Comments: Felicia still gives me memories of days passed when Steph Blake was running this division. I miss my girl :'(. I could see this being a Japan style thing where a champ gets pinned so a title match can be set up.

Stella Saint versus Holly Sims

The opening match pit Canadian technician Stella Saint against the rookie from Battle Creek, Michigan, Holly Sims. Sims has drawn comparisons to the recently retired Demezla Wade. Sims made her pro debut on an independently organized show in January and worked the February Ladies Night show. Sims could be a breakout star in wrestling if all goes well -- but this match was not a way to showcase that potential. It was, well, bad. These two women clearly didn’t click. Their timing was all over the place. After several minutes of just mistimed wrestling, Stella Saint was able to lock in the Saint Trap Facelock and Sims submitted.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Stella Saint defeated Holly Sims in 6:35 by submission.

Hank Gunn & Pepper Pelton versus FREEDOM (Gonzalez & Jones) w/ Lucinda Lush

The second match of the night was a competitive tag team match between the still nascent team of Gunn and Pelton and two-thirds of the new stable FREEDOM. Both teams had a smaller worker (Gunn and Gonzalez) and a big powerhouse (Pelton and Jones) which made for some good moments when they paired off and we got to see quicker action from the two smaller men and then big explosive action from the two powerhouses. It was a back and forth affair -- it was clear that CWI wanted to make Gunn and Pelton look like a quality team but also a team that was still figuring out their timing with one another. Juggernaut Jones took Gunn out of the match with an Oklahoma Stampede that set up him hitting a Press Slam on Pepper Pelton and then tagging in Marco so he could lock in the Latino Crab and for the first time in his CWI career, Pepper Pelton submitted -- clearly a design to show how effective the Latino Crab is as a move.

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Marco Gonzalez and Juggernaut Jones defeated Hank Gunn and Pepper Pelton in 13:23 when Marco Gonzalez submitted Pepper Pelton with a Latino Crab.

The COTT Mid American Champion made his way to the ring. He had his hair slicked back perfectly and had on sunglasses and was wearing a tailored suit. He also cradled the Mid American Championship under his arm. He had a big smile on his face. Taylor Gordy stood in the ring ready for him.

Gordy, “Ladies and gentlemen please welcome, at this time, the Confederation of the Territories Mid American Champion, Funky Fedora. Funky, thank you for coming out here tonight.”

Fedora, “Oh it’s my pleasure, Taylor.”

Gordy, “Last month, you successfully defended the Mid American Championship against two of the top wrestlers in the COTT in OLLIE’s Demon King and MAW’s Josh Jacobs. Both champions in their own right. Now you have earned yourself a World Title shot somewhere down the line.”

Fedora, “Yes I did, baby. Funky’s got himself a World’s Championship opportunity. I don’t know when it’s going to happy, but baby it’s going to be happening sometime in the not too distant future and when it does, I’m going to be World Heavyweight and Mid American Champion because Funky is just the best wrestler on the planet.”

Gordy, “Well there is a guy in the locker room who has a bone to pick with you. A guy whose arm you broke in November just before you took the Mid American Championship. I’m of course talking about Nate DeMarcus.”

Fedora, “That nothing happening son of a gun? He’s lucky he’s still in professional wrestling. I heard he might not ever come back to wrestling. I heard he might stay at home thinking about the man he used to be and not the man I proved him to be.

rqaDjDy.jpg?1

Suddenly the former Mid American Champion, Nate DeMarcus came to the ring. After taking all of January and the first half of February off, the former champion is cast free. Nate DeMarcus stares at the ring -- at Funky Fedora. Funky looks like he’s seen a ghost and he backs up. When Nate DeMarcus hits the ring, Funky high tails. DeMarcus pulls Taylor Gordy to him.

DeMarcus, “Funky. Next month. You and I are going to run this back for real. You’re not going to like the result.”

Funky Fedora threw a fit in the entry way at the news he was going to have to wrestle Nate DeMarcus next month!

Kalder Tagg w/ Haley Buck versus "Indiana's Finest" Mr. Grappling ©

The Indiana Heavyweight Championship match was up next. Kalder Tagg had a rare singles match here -- and some on the internet were questioning why a guy without a lot of singles experience would be stepping into the ring with a title on the line. CWI, being an old school-minded territory-style company with clear influences from both Texas Southern and Classic Southern wrestling utilize the ‘any given night’ ideaology of booking. Any night could be the night that someone breaks out of the back and sometimes you have to give a shot to someone you wouldn’t expect. Kalder made for a good opponent in this too -- without his brother there, he was able to show off that he is turning into a really fine brawler. He has really good ring awareness and was able to position himself where Mr. Grappling couldn’t snap off suplexes (by staying near the ropes) and then backing Grappling into a corner so that Tagg’s brawl-heavy style could take over with strikes to the body. Tagg was able to throw Grappling around a bit -- it was clear he was trying to really physically punish Grappling, but Tagg made a mistake when he went for a big Corner Avalanche but he took too much time and it opened up Mr. Grappling to be able to seize control. He suplexed Tagg several times and worked him into the Figure Four Leglock which got him his sixth defence of the Indiana Championship and another big submission victory.

In an exceptional match, Mr. Grappling defeated Kalder Tagg in 10:13 by submission. Mr. Grappling makes defence number six of the CWI Indiana title.

The crowd goes crazy when Steven Parker, recently released SWF star makes his way to the ring. His contract not being renewed was a shockwave through the wrestling world and the crowd is excited to see him. He is all smiles as he walks down to the ring and gets in it where he is handed a microphone.

He raises the microphone up to his lips, but doesn’t say anything right away. He just holds it there for a moment. Finally, he speaks. “Indianapolis, how are y’all tonight.”

It was a cheap way to start, but it was effective.

Parker, “I’ve come here to Indianapolis, to Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis, because I have heard that this is the place you go to for competition in independent pro wrestling. I’ve heard that CWI has the best accumulation of young, up and coming talent in the sport. Guys like Nate DeMarcus and Mr. Grappling and Zippy Deverell and Funky Fedora and all the great young wrestlers here. I’m ready to mix it up with them and earn my way to the top of the Confederation of the Territories pile.”

cnc2WIZ.jpg

He is interrupted by the shock arrival of Jefferson Stardust, former SWF World Tag Team Champion! Stardust does not walk to the ring, but he demands a microphone be brought to him.

Stardust, “You know Steven, I showed up here tonight to make a similar announcement. I didn’t know you were going to be here and I’ll be honest, if CWI is willing to hire the likes of you, I don’t know if I want to be associated with them -- but I made an agreement and I am a man of my word so I am here. I’m not happy about it, after all, I’m a star. This is Indianapolis. Stars aren’t supposed to be in Indianapolis. When I agreed to come here, I didn’t even realize it was in Indianapolis! So I’m disgusted with myself, but I’m here and I’m going to run you out of CWI and I’m going to be the King of the Mountain around here. And that’s a promise!”

Stardust threw the microphone down and exited and it looks like CWI is set for a blockbuster feud!

Yvonne Ericks, Felicia Luck & The San Diego Girls versus Tameka Sky & The War Maidens

The first women’s match of the evening had eight of the major players in the women’s division all in one match. On one side, we had the Women’s Tag Champs, a former Women’s Champ, and a hot prospect who has really gotten some momentum in the last few months -- even though she came up short against Tameka Sky she still looked impressive. On the other side of the ring is the Women’s Champion and all three of the War Maidens. It made for an excellent match -- it was very competitive and went back and forth. The heels had real heat and the faces were really over. Everyone got a moment to shine and Felicia Luck really took over at the end -- she hit Tameka Sky with a Lucky Strike that knocked the Champion off the apron. She also hit Black Diamond with the same move to win the match for her team.

In an exceptional match, Yvonne Ericks, Felicia Luck and The San Diego Girls defeated Tameka Sky, Black Diamond and Femme Fatales in 15:52 when Felicia Luck pinned Black Diamond with a Lucky Strike.

In terms of in-ring work, Urena Frost was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Ashley Keith

Last month, Lucy and Ashley met in a sensational technical matchup that went the entire allotted thirty minutes. They both agreed to run it back this month -- both women want to prove that they are the better wrestler. While the first match was mostly holds -- it was clear that Ashley was frustrated and she threw some stiff strikes in this match. The strikes opened her up to seize control -- but they also made Lucy throw some strikes of her own. The match got very physical and the two women were really laying in their stuff -- they alternated between holds with hard strikes. Lucy looked like she was setting up for a Delorean Driver but Ashley Keith used a handful of hair and an eyerake to counter it and get Lucy Stone-McFly down and locked in a Proton Lock that got the submission victory for Ashley.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Ashley Keith defeated Lucy Stone-McFly in 22:50 by submission with a Proton Lock after blatantly cheating.

The Hangman versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell

The Hangman and Zippy Deverell met for the first time ever here. This was a big game of cat and mouse. Zippy spent most of the match trying to keep away from The Hangman. He was trying to frustrate the bigger man to see if he could get The Hangman to make a mistake -- the Hangman has shown in the past that he will go too far and get himself disqualified. The Hangman was on top of his game though and was able to keep his cool. Once he got a hold on Zippy, The Hangman didn’t look back. He went to work, tossing Zippy around. Zippy took big bumps for The Hangman and made Hangman look particularly dangerous. Zippy did get some offense in -- but it didn’t help him when he got lifted high into the air for a big Choke Slam.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, The Hangman defeated Zippy Deverell in 12:21 by pinfall with a Choke Slam.

The Hangman stands in the ring after his victory when The Taggs hit the ring. They immediately go after The Hangman -- who wasn’t expecting them. He tries to fight them off but the numbers game was too much for him -- especially when Deverell came at him with the loaded Coal Miner’s Glove -- who knows where he pulled that from! He blasted The Hangman and the Hangman went down! With a downed Hangman, the Taggs lifted him and dropped him with a Spike Piledriver. After that, they hit the bricks.

The Texas Express versus Bred For Battle © w/ Andrew Gibson

The main event of Hoosier Hysteria was a blockbuster tag team match. In the year and some months that Texas Express have been in CWI, they have not wrestled Bred for Battle. Bred for Battle were original CWI roster members and they have rose to significant prominence in the independent wrestling scene as the COTT World Tag Team Champions. Coming into this match, they had made eleven successful defences of those titles in three countries. Both teams came to the ring with their belts which helped make this look like a big-time affair. It’s been several months -- close to a year actually, since Bred for Battle had a standard tag team match on a CWI main show -- their busy schedule as World Tag Champions have kept them away from CWI shows. The fans were really into this because they viewed both teams as major stars. These are ticket sellers who fill up slots every eighteen inches. Cooper and Turk are not small men -- both are comfortably Light Hevyweight and muscular but they were in the ring with two big, hulking monsters of men that were able to create sympathy on the smaller men -- which was something that was different for the Express. Bred for Battle didn’t have to cheat to get ahead -- they came out of the gate as two big bulls that were asserting their will. This gave the main event an interesting flow as it was heat-hope-heat-hope without any shine. This change in the normal formula really got the crowd invested even more. After taking a substanial beating, Cooper Christie managed to make the tag to Turk and Turk came in like a house of Texas fire. He was all punches and dropkicks and Bred for Battle took big bumps -- made even more impressive by their size. Turk gave one of those good ol’ Southern babyface “Come on Daddy’s” as he pumped his fist and let of some more punches on Dreadnought. Dreadnought sold each punch with the stumble walk. Turk hit the ropes and came flying across the ring for a big crossbody -- but Dreadnought slid out of the way and referee Jez McArthur took the big bump from the crossbody. Turk looked distraught from the impact but then..

FxYPpX4.jpgMT95rPy.jpg

American Gold hit the ring. Maliek Chamberlain pulled Cooper Christie off the ring apron and kicked him in the gut. He lifted him up for a suplex but then fell forward, driving Cooper chest first into the wood floor of the Fountain Square Theatre with a Gordbuster. In the ring, Marcus English jumped Turk from behind and dragged him to a corner. He ran up the corner and spun before planting Turk’s head into the mat with a vicious Tornado DDT. They rolled out of the ring with Andrew Gibson being all smiles. James Diaz came into the ring and lifted Turk up and drove him down for a hard powerbomb while Dreadnought came off the top rope for a moonsault that big man should not be able to do -- successfully hitting their Sins of Our Fathers tag finisher. Jez McArthur was coming to a bit and crawled over to make the count and Bred for Battle made their twelfth successful tag title defense.

In an exceptional match, Bred for Battle defeated The Texas Express in 18:55 when Dreadnought pinned Turk Trenneman with a Sins of Our Fathers. During the match we also saw Maliek Chamberlain run in and attack Christie, and Marcus English also attack Trenneman. Bred for Battle make defence number twelve of the COTT World Tag Team titles.
