Oh yeah. I've had two days of parent-teachers conferences back to back and talked to a total of 3 parents in 7 hours of conferences.

I had eight hours of conferences and talked to 25 different parent/parent sets across three grade levels. My brain is toast.

Another fantastic show, the main event was great. And another fantastic debut! I love how Mark Hyatt has been reinvented after going missing for a couple of months, he’s really building up a force.

I appreciate it. I took Mark Hyatt off TV because of BBS. I actually signed him in September -- but I immediately put him on vacation as soon as he started with me so that he could debut with happy morale right at the right time. BBS is one of my favorites in the game and has been for years and years. I've got some big plans for him in this run, especially now that I get to rock the Big Poppa Bulldozer look that King Bison created many moons ago.

<p>All this talk of Parent-Teacher conferences has brought back memories. I was a really bad kid and so my parents would often tell my teachers that they could hit me if I acted up in class. Mainly because both my parents went to Catholic schools and they both got hit. But I was lucky it was the 80's by the time I was in school and the teachers could not touch me.<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting and thrillpacked episode of Wrestling Spotlight right here on WrestleWorld. Tonight is our last episode of 2024 and we are ending the year with a bang. In our main event tonight, Wild Red Stallion and Danny Draper look to finally settle their on-going rivalry when they meet in a Loser Leaves Town Match. We also have a big six-man tag team co-main event for the number one contendership to the COTT World Six Man Titles when Gary Greer and the Manifesto team up to take on Deverell’s Army. All of that and so much more and joining me in calling all of the action tonight is my broadcast colleague Grace Harper. Grace, I won’t see you again before the new year so happy new year!”

Harper, ”Thanks Marv! Happy New Year to you as well and what a show we’re going to have. I can’t wait. And you forgot to mention -- last week Mark Hyatt shocked the world when he brought out Bulldozer Brandon Smith who completely laid waste to Sean McFly and Nicky Champion. We’re going to get some follow up here tonight and I can’t wait to hear what they’ve got to say.”

Earnest, “Well you won’t have to wait long, because Taylor Gordy is standing by with Mark Hyatt and Bulldozer Brandon Smith right now!”

05TFh3q.png

The camera pans from the announce desk over to the interview podium where Taylor Gordy is standing. Right next to him is Mark Hyatt, the former color commentator for HPW before they were on TV and the former manager Ox Mastadon and The Wolf Pack. Behind Mark Hyatt stands Bulldozer Brandon Smith. Which is bleached hair and thick goatee, the forty-two year old Smith was still an impressive physical specimen.

TiIkT9w.jpgaO4dY56.jpgSV5X1fA.jpg

Gordy, “Last week, you two shocked the wrestling world when Bulldozer Brandon debuted and decimated Nicky Champion and Sean McFly and the whole world wants to know -- why?”

Hyatt, “They want to know why? That’s what they want to know? I made it clear why. I made it clear when HPW management kicked me off commentary for Grace Harper and tried to end my wrestling career. I made it clear when the Indiana Athletic Commission did not want to reinstate my managerial license. HPW was at war with me. They wanted to run me out of this sport for no good reason, but thankfully my momma stepped in and my momma made sure that the Commission saw reason and my managerial license was reinstated and Bulldozer Brandon here has been pissed off at the world for years. Did you know, Taylor, that he and Nicky Champion used to be in the same place? They were on the same stages and not once did Nicky Champion ever give Bulldozer a singles match. Not once! A guy as successful as Bulldozer Brandon Smith has been -- a champion everywhere he’s gone -- and Nicky Champion wouldn’t give him a singles match? Wouldn’t let this big bastard get a chance with the World’s Most Famous wrestler? That’s a damn travesty and so we made sure ol’ Bulldozer would have his chance at revenge and last week, you saw what happens when anyone stands in the ring with Bulldozer Brandon Smith. He’s the new force here in HPW. Big Poppa Bulldozer do all of you and he’s about to run wild.”

Mark Hyatt and Bulldozer Brandon Smith walk off and Taylor Gordy looks at the camera.

Gordy, “It looks like Bulldozer Brandon Smith is here to lay waste to the HPW roster with Mark Hyatt calling the shots and this can’t be good for us. Right now though, I’m going to be joined by Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good!”

Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good walk onto the set. The two men walk up to Taylor Gordy.

DeMarcus and Good back it clear throughout their promo that they are dissatisfied with the result of the match at Thanksgiving Turmoil. They think Bred for Battle were scared and that’s why they took the cheap way out -- that’s why they got themselves disqualified because they knew that they couldn’t be DeMarcus and Good straight up so they had to cheat but DeMarcus and Good aren’t done with them by a long shot.

Hermans de Pestelience are all standing around a gravestone. The gravestone is solid black with a solitary diamond carved into it. The dirt in front of the gravestone looks freshly dug. Senora Muerte turns to the camera and she smiles a wicked smile. She reaches into her robe and she pulls out a painted red tree. She sets it down on the ground.

“You’re next, Yvonne.” She whispers and the camera fades to black.

Wild Red Stallion versus "Dapper" Danny Draper (Lucinda Lush is banned from ringside)

The main event was a slugfest between two men who have grown to really dislike each other. They’ve had a very competitive feud so far and this was the blow off. Both men took it to each other with hard-hitting offense -- including a little out of the ring brawling that isn’t particularly common in HPW. Stallion hit several forearms and a headbutt and a big suplex. Draper hit a big high knee and looked for his D-Struction move, but Stallion sent him over with a backdrop and then a Lakota Cutter and Stallion won and Draper was out of a job.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Wild Red Stallion defeated Dapper Danny Draper in 17:42 by pinfall with a Lakota Cutter.

Author's Thoughts

With Episode #16, we have concluded five full years of in-game work on this diary. It's been 322 days since I started this diary and 320 days since the very first show was posted. In that time, I've posted, in some form, results to 155 different shows. 16 episodes of weekly TV, 57 monthly events, and 82 spot-show events. I'm not sure how many narratives/character pieces I've written for this, but I know it's been several. At the time I'm writing this note, we've done over 56,000 views through the way GDS calculates views.

I write all those stats to say thank you. Thank you to those of you who have read so far. Whether you were a reader at the beginning back in April of '20 or a newer reader. Whether you've read everything so far or hopped on partway through. Whether you're a regular predictor on the shows, an occasional commentator, or a lurker, I truly appreciate it.

I have a blast doing this diary. Sometimes it is frustrating when I am stuck for how to write a show or a match -- but in general, I truly enjoy this as a hobby. It's a good creative outlet for me and gives context to a game I love playing.

And don't worry, this diary isn't over. I've already run the next 13 shows (three months of TV and Hoosier Hysteria). I hope you stick with me for what we've got next.

Thank you

Historian/David

Thanks for the great read! I was wondering what Fro Sure is up to you in your game? He is one of my faves and just curious if a bigger company snatched him up?

Fro has been working for TCW since March '21 and has twice been TCW Television Champion. His first reign went from Sep '21 - Mar '22 and saw 9 defenses. His second reign went from Feb '23 to Oct '23 and saw 5 defenses. In 2024, he was #50 in the Power 500 (his highest-charting) and is currently one of TCW's Major Stars (alongside Frankie Boy Fernandes, Mikey Lau, and Logan Wolfsbaine) and looks to be primed to take over for El Mitico Jr. who looks to be departing for USPW and Wolf Hawkins -- who has officially signed with USPW.

I’ll never forget the date. December 30th, 2024. I sat at a table in Toronto, Canada across from Abelia Lachance, professionally known as Yellow Jackal, and Phil Vibert. There was a lawyer in the room to make this official. I had come alone. No Grace or Rick. No Mark or Andrew. None of my people. None of my team. This was personal to me. I had been waging a years-long war with Canada. The entire damn country it felt like. Between CWA and 3C, I had lost countless talents to their plundering. 3C had damn near crippled my women’s division. This twenty-four year-old had been so brazen to start a company. She had brought on Phil Vibert and they had taken from me. Urena. Lucy. Storm. Amy. The Hooligans. They had taken the foundational pieces of my women’s division and left us hobbled and broken and now I sat across from them prepared to pay off their debts.

The lawyer cleared his throat. “By terms of this agreement, Circle City Sports and Entertainment, LLC -- represented here by Marvin Earnest, agree to pay off the debts of Canadian Combat Chicks, LLC. In assuming the debts, Circle City Sports and Entertainment will also be acquiring the contract of -- and these are listed in their professionally used names, The Ice Queen, Blaze, Chris Camelot, Dame Lynette, Hannah Hooligan, Helena Hooligan, DupliKate, Lucy Stone-McFly, Mellow Flashhart, Storm, and Urena Frost. All 3C events, championships and all other 3C contracted talent will not be assumed by Circle City Sports and Entertainment. The contracted talent will be free to seek employment elsewhere, events and championships and company trademarks will enter the public domain to be purchased by any future investors. Do all parties agree to these terms?”

Phil scowled at me. How many times had he been here? DAVE had closed. He failed to turn CGC around when he popped up there and now he had failed as booker once again. I won’t lie, it felt could. I didn’t like Phil. He was smarmy. He was arrogant. He had refused to give me a job for all those years. He had Mitch and he never needed me -- not that I really would have liked calling what became the garbage he produced in DAVE. He thought he knew better but once again he had failed. I didn’t have anything personal against Abelia. We had only exchange perfunctory phone calls. Nothing of any personal substance. She was just a youngster who had big dreams and rolled the dice and came up short. I couldn’t be mad at that. It had taken me thirty years in the sport to decide to roll the dice.

“You sure you can’t take more of our girls?” Abeila said. Her voice was soft and polite -- like most Canadians. I had learned that she was originally from Edmonton and had trained at the House of Stone but had not been given a shot with CWA or Black Maple so she bet on herself and most importantly, had bet on Phil.

I shook my head. “I don’t have room for all of them. My roster is bloated enough as is. I took who I felt I could use or would be useful to the restocking of our division.”

She nodded sadly. “I just feel bad for them. They’re all going to be out of work. They’re a good group.”

I tried to smile sympathetically. It sucked for the women on her roster who were good hands, but I couldn’t give them all a job. “Maybe Allen or Tamara or Steve or Farrah or someone will use them. There are a lot of companies out there.”

“Yeah. Maybe.” She said and reached for the pen to sign. She signed and slid the papers over to Phil. Phil looked at them for a long time. I know that Phil had coached her through who to sign and who not to sign. Phil had targeted my division. If it had been up to Phil, he would have driven us out of business. He was ruthless and wanted to succeed.

His fingers hovered over the page. He had to sign because he had a small stake in the company. It took both of them. He turned to Abelia. “We shouldn’t do this. We can get more funding. Something.”

She shook her head. “We’ve been trying, Phil. We’re in debt up to our eyeballs. We can’t borrow any more money. No one wants to invest in us. We’ve talked about this.”

For twenty-four years old, she was surprisingly mature and level headed. I was impressed but still Phil hesitated. He looked at me. I knew what he was thinking. One time, I had done Vibert’s Voice. When it was announced I was going to be heading up CWI, I’d appeared on his podcast to hype our first show. To try to drum up interest. On that show, he had called me a “pedestrian announcer” who had never done “anything of note” and asked why I thought I’d be successful at this when I hadn’t been successful enough in any other avenue. If I had such a good mind, why didn’t Rip or Sam give me the book? He had mercilessly attacked our shows as stuck in the past and as somehow being more offensive than NYCW’s nostalgia act because people expected NYCW to be nostalgia, we were just stuck in the southern territory days in a place that hadn’t been a southern territory and yadda-yadda-yadda. “We don’t want to sell to this guy.”

I wasn’t expecting Phil to be so blunt, but then again, why would I expect anything different? Abelia looked at Phil in shock. “Phil. He’s the only one offering. It’s either him or the banks.”

“Then I say the damn banks. He’s going to waste this talent like he’s wasted so much other talent. Look at his track record -- nothing impressive. Who has he built? No one. The best thing people do is leave his ass.”

I loosened my collar. Now this was getting personal. “And what the f**k have you done, Phil?”

“The whole damn wrestling world knows what I’ve done, Marv.” Phil spat back. So we were going to do this. Right here. Abelia was pleading with us to not do this and the lawyer looked amused. Wasn’t this what he expected? The kind of carny show he’d tell the guys in the office about. The pro ‘rasslin’ people who got into a screamin’ match while signing papers.

“Yeah. The whole world knows that you ran DAVE into the ground. You hotshotted everything and damn near crippled the business. All those dumb ass hardcore gimmick matches. How many careers did you shorten? How many guys are going to be in a wheelchair because of you and John? You did nothing for CGC and you took this lady’s money and you ran another company into the ground. Everyone calls you a genius, but you’re just a hack who had a little bit of success with shock-value shit.”

Phil stood up from the table -- his chair sliding back to hit the wall. I had struck a nerve with him and I was fine with that. “And look who is talking? You’re just a second-rate want-to-be old-school promoter that was never anything. You were an average announcer that never did anything of note but Rip liked so you got a job and were grandfathered in when Sam took over. You’ve done nothing original. You’ve done nothing exciting. The best match you promoted were two guys that you’re lucky to have. If it wasn’t for Nicky liking pills and powder and f*****g his career up, you wouldn’t have him. You’ve cost a roster of cast-offs and you’re trying to act like you’re something. You aren’t s**t.”

Spittle had flown from his mouth and landed on the table. His face was red. I stood up myself. I wasn’t going to let Phil think he had me intimidated. I wasn’t a tough guy. I couldn’t whip most people in a fight. I was fifty-one years old and soft around the middle with a bad back and a penchant to drink too much and smoke cigars I shouldn’t smoke and eat greasy food -- but I was pretty sure that I could whip Phil if I needed to. He didn’t look like he could whip cream with an outboard motor. “I might not be, but I’m still in business asshole, and that’s more than we can say for you. Sign the damn papers so that Abelia can have a f*****g future in this business and not be another leper clinging to the past like you.”

Phil didn’t say anything for a long moment. Neither did I. But Abelia did. “Are you two done measuring whose d*** is bigger? Sign the papers Phil. God, I can’t believe you. We tried and we failed. Marv’s offering us a little saving face action so we can keep some of our gals employed. Swallow your bullshit pride and sign the papers.”

Phil gripped the pen tightly and slashed his name across the paper. The black ink the blood of his creativity and career. He dropped the pen on the paper. “There. You have my f****g name.” He turned on his heels and walked out and I was left in this room with the lawyer and this twenty-four year old who had shown far more maturing than me or Phil had. I mean, hell, she was young enough to be my kid and she had shown herself to be more of a grownup today. She pushed the papers across the table to me.

I picked up the pen and signed my name. Take that Canada. Marv Earnest was fighting back.

FIRE ME UP! How far in debt were they?

They were 100k in debt, but had been in debt for six or seven months so finally they were willing to talk. Took a good chunk of my financial reserves, but I'm counting on bringing back LSM and Urena as well as some of the other women as being a much-needed boost to my women's division.
