Taylorsville was a little nothing town sandwiched between Edinburgh -- another nothing town that was only popular because of its Outlet Mall and Columbus, a small town’s that only really notable because Chuck Taylor -- the shoe designer -- lived there and was an All-State basketball player at the local highschool and Tony Stewart, the NASCAR driver was from there -- but it was still a quirky little town that most people had never heard of 40 miles south of Indianapolis. Taylorsville was between the two and wasn’t known for anything other than technically being where the Edinburgh Outlet Mall actually was and for being right of I-65. The Waffle House was right off the freeway and tonight, Virgil Coe was hard at work cooking up eggs and hashbrowns and steaks that no matter which way you ordered them were bound to come out well-done anyway because they were as thin as could be.</p><p> </p><p> Virgil Coe was not a famous man, but to some, he was Texas Hangman or The Hangman. Professional wrestler. Indestructible monster that walked straight out of the Wild West and into a pro wrestling ring. That was when he was booked -- but that didn’t pay the bills. Virgil had to pay bills. He had moved from Texas to the greater Indianapolis area for CWI. For the opportunity to be a major player. Marvin Earnest had plans for him. He had sold him on this character that would have made John Wayne or Clint Eastwood crap their pants. Sold him on what he would do with The Hangman once he got fully established. Virgil was excited and so far had been pleased -- but he still had to pay the bills. Earnest wanted to start running some spot shows soon that could earn extra cash, but Coe had to pay rent and gas and power. He lived in a small house between Franklin and Edinburgh. A little farmhouse that was too small for a man his size, but most things were.</p><p> </p><p> It was almost comical to see him behind the counter at Waffle House. At 6’7”, he towered over everyone in the place. He was layered with muscle and at 360 pounds he wasn’t a man to be trifled with. That’s part of why the Waffle House liked him. They didn’t have to worry about miscreants coming in late at night to cause trouble, because Virgil was big enough to back them down without having to speak.</p><p> </p><p> He was a trained chef -- but he couldn’t get a job in a proper restaurant kitchen. Not only was he too big, what kind of restaurant that wasn’t short order would give a guy who needs Fridays and Saturdays off? He didn’t want to work those two nights. Those were wrestling nights. Waffle Houe didn’t care. They just cared that he could cook hashbrowns to the right crispiness each time and could smother, cover, chop, dice, chunk, top, cap, or country with the best of them. He could work some flavor into the thin “t-bones” that were favorite of long-haul drivers and want-to-be-gym-rates that wanted to claim to be eating it for the protein. </p><p> </p><p> He didn’t want to be cooking this stuff. He wanted to be using his skills in a proper kitchen. On a line, but he had bills to pay and pride to swallow. So when Marge -- the heavy-set woman whose wig was never on straight and always smelled of menthol cigarettes and regret called out another order, he went about his business dutifully. He poured the batter for the waffles into the iron. He cracked the eggs. He pressed the potatoes onto the flat top. One day, he would have a bank account in the six or seven digits. The Eisens or Packer or Rhodes or McFly would call because they had seen him. They had seen the way he could work and would want him -- and he would hang up his black apron and make the money to start his own restaurant back in Dallas. Until then. Historian Posted May 27, 2020 Author Share Posted May 27, 2020 Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis returns to action this Saturday, the first week of July to present it's fourth of July Spectacular God, America, and Pro Wrestling. Right after the show there will be a fireworks display and a meet and greet with some of CWI's top talent, including Conner Threepwood, Nate DeMarcus, Steffi Chee, and Suzanne Brazzle. Last month, Acid made a big splash in CWI when he showed up to challenge The Indiana Strangler Conner Threepwood to a match for the COTT Mid American Championship. Threepwood has managed four successful defences going into this event. Will the fighting champion be able to best Acid -- the man who trained him to be a wrestler? Or will Acid prove that the master is always the master and win his first COTT Championship -- and his first professional championship in the United States? Steffi Chee and Suzanne Brazzle will team up in what is being billed as their retirement match. Both women have announced their intentions on retiring from the sport and this will be their last match in CWI and in the Confederation of the Territories. Their opponents? The newly crowned Women's World Tag Team Champions. Lilly and Rose will be putting the belts on the line just two weeks after winning them against the veterans. Will Chee and Brazzle end their careers winning the World Tag Titles? Or will the two veterans be taken out behind the barn? Nate DeMarcus and Zippy Deverell will go one on one for the first time for the brand new Indiana Heavyweight Championship. The Wolf Pack started their CWI careers off strongly -- going to the finals of the March Madness tournament before falling to the Rock City Stars. Since then, they’ve been on a bit of a losing streak and Mark Hyatt is trying to get his boys back on the path to titles. The Dog Soldiers have been accumulating wins as a team. The veteran Ace Youngblood has been a great mentor to the big, young, powerful Wild Red Stallion. For most of the match, The Wolf Pack had control and worked over Ace Youngblood. They cut off the ring and focused on his neck. Stallion was forced to stand there and watch them work. In CWI, you can easily get disqualified for entering the ring illegally during a tag match. A couple of big chops from Youngblood created enough space for him to make the big diving tag to Wild Red Stallion -- who came into the ring like a wild stallion -- running through both members of the Wolf Pack. He tossed Noggin over the top rope and then hit a big roaring elbow on Tokoeka before hitting a </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Lakota Cutter[/] to get the big win for the Dog Soldiers. Luck makes sense for a signing CWI. She’s the only female graduate of the Mid Atlantic Boot Camp -- and since MAW does not offer women’s wrestling, she has been working for QAW, but the young lady makes a lot of sense to be in a Marv Earnest production. Her partners , Reece & Wells have been having their issues with the War Maidens over the past few months and this match furthered those issues. Black Diamond continues to impress as an athletic talent and as a future star. Frost has been tearing it up in CWI, CWWF, and on the women’s independent scene. Neema is a bundle of charisma. This was a good match which really let Luck showcase her striking ability. She peppered all of the War Maidens with hard kicks and a couple of big knees that landed hard. Reece and Wells were able to show some slick team work -- but in the end, the Maidens' willingness to cheat, to distract the referee and double team -- and Frost’s raw power overwhelmed the opponents.
