Those Hermanas de Pestilenece renders are amazing. I love the color scheme of their face paint. It draws your eyes directly to them.

The Dogs are a good job team for now. When they get renders then I might think they will win.

I really like their renders as well. I think willr0ck did an excellent job with them and I've had the idea for them for awhile now, it just took some time to execute and get the ball rolling. I like the bulldogs, but you're right in that they are a job team right now. I made the stylistic choice for enhancement talent to not upload their pictures anymore, because it's just a pain to have that many pictures of people who are only on one set of TV tapings or what night (they are almost always done from hired local.

Great previous show. The main event was nicely written up.

Fili's time is coming but not yet.

I appreciate the kind words, fella.

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Hello everyone and welcome back to another exciting, thrillpacked episode of Wrestling Spotlight here on WrestleWorld. I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined in the broadcast position by my broadcast colleague, the legendary women’s wrestler, Ms. Hell on Wheels herself, Grace Harper and Grace, tonight is the biggest episode of Wrestling Spotlight we’ve ever seen since our debut on WrestleWorld. We have two huge main events tonight. In a grudge match, Nicky Champion and Zippy Deverell go toe to toe with one another in a Seminole Strap Match. Both men will be joined at the wrist by twelve feet of leather strap and the object of the match is to touch all four corners. Then, we have the Mid American Championship on the line for the first time on Wrestling Spotlight as Funky Fedora steps into the ring for the first time against the Samoan Superman, Joey Fili.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#800080;"><strong>Harper</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, ”Both of those matches could headline a major event anywhere in North America but tonight it’s coming to you on television as all four of these men look to settle scores tonight. This is the kind of night this sport is built around. Athletes, competitors, hell, gladiators, standing in the ring and doing battle for championship, for personal glory, and to settle scores. It’s why I got in this sport in the first place and it’s why that over thirty years later I’m still sitting ringside to call pro wrestling action and still as in love with the sport as I’ve ever been.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “With such a full lineup, let’s get started, but before we get to any in ring action let’s go to our colleague Taylor Gordy who is standing by with the number one contenders to the Heartland Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships, the Texas Express. Take it away, Taylor.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

We move to the interview set where Taylor Gordy is standing with a member of Texas Express on either side of him.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><img alt="TiIkT9w.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TiIkT9w.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DbtnROj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DbtnROj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="A7qeAG3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/A7qeAG3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “In four weeks at Thanksgiving Turmoil, The Texas Express have an opportunity for the tag team titles currently held by The Dynamite Express. Assuming they’re still champions in four weeks, it will be the second time these two teams have met. Are you guys ready?”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Christie</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “We are. We really hope it’s The Dynamite Express too. We mean no disrespect to the Montgomery Family who will challenge the Dynamite Express next week, but we want to meet the Dynamite Express at Thanksgiving Turmoil. We’ve got some unfinished business with them.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Trenneman</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “At Railroad City Rumble back in August, they took the cheap way out. They didn’t beat us clean. They didn’t beat us fair. They didn’t respect us our those belts enough to do it an honorable way and me and Cooper, we’re honorable men. Even when it bites us in the ass. Even when people beg us to be a little dirty, to fight fire with fire, we refuse. We don’t want to be those kind of men. We want to be the kind of men that win fairly. That show people around the world that you can be the best without having to resort to cheap shots and the easy road.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “It’s a noble goal, but do you think it’s a goal you can hit? Especially against a team like The Dynamite Express that isn’t afraid to take the low road?”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Christie</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> We absolutely do. We’ve been HPW Tag Team Champions before. We’ve been COTT World Tag Team Champions before. We reached both of those milestones by fighting with honor and dignity and pride and by doing things the right way. At Thanksgiving Turmoil, we’re going to get back there by doing things the right way.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Cooper and Turk walked off the set.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “And there you have it. In four weeks at Thanksgiving Turmoil, The Texas Express will challenge for the Tag Team Titles. Next week, The Dynamite Express put those titles on the line against the Montgomery Family and the winner of that will face the Texas Express in four weeks. Back to you Marv and Grace.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Another big main event match next week as Heartland Pro Wrestling continues to prove why Wrestling Spotlight is the most must-see hour of wrestling television anywhere in North America.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#800080;"><strong>Harper</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, ”It certainly is the most must see hour and our first match is up next, isn’t it Marv?”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “It is. The Casey Brothers versus The Bulldogs</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

The Case Brothers needed a match to showcase their team work and get a win so that they could continue to be relevant in a very competitive tag team division. This was that match. The young Bulldog team is a local enhancement team and they’ve done their enhancement job well over this set of tapings. They sold for the Casey Brothers and Tully and Chuck were able to hit their big suplexes and slams and show some good team work. In the end, Chuck Casey hit Bulldog #1 with a Belly to Back Suplex for the win.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

In an extremely short match, The Casey Brothers defeated Bulldog #1 and Bulldog #2 in 4:28 when Chuck Casey pinned Bulldog #1 with a Belly To Back Suplex. </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “The Casey Brothers with the convincing victory. They arrived in HPW with title aspirations and while they stumbled out of the gate, they have looked to be back in championship contender form as of late.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#800080;"><strong>Harper</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, ”Sometimes that happens to an athlete. You change companies and competition and it takes you a little bit to find your footing. The Casey Brothers have found their footing and they could be very dangerous for people to have to deal with in our tag division here.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Our next match is the Seminole Strap match, but before we get to it, Taylor Gordy is standing by with Black Diamond. Take it away Taylor.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

We cut to the interview booth where Taylor Gordy is standing with one half of the HPW Women’s Tag Team Champions, Black Diamond.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><img alt="TiIkT9w.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TiIkT9w.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="vvrI1zC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/vvrI1zC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Last week we saw that the Hermanas de Pestilenece are coming to HPW. We saw various signs in their videos, one of which was a Diamond -- which I can only assume is in reference to my guest, one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Black Diamond.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Diamond</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “I took it to mean that too. I took it to me that they are coming for me and mine. That’s fine. They can come on for me then, but they best understand that when you come for the Diamond, you best not miss. ‘Cause I’m at the top of my game. They maybe scary to everyone else, but I ain’t been scared of anything in my life and I’m not gonna start being scared now. Some hunnies. If you want me and mine, you know where to find us.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Black Diamond finished in her thick Tennessee drawl before walking off.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Well there we have, Black Diamond is not scared of Hermanas de Pestilenece -- though I definitely would be. They scare me. At this time, I’m going to be joined by Indiana Heavyweight Champion Wild Red Stallion.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Last week, Jack Jackson surprised everyone here in HPW and around the world when he showed up and challenged you to a match for the Indiana Heavyweight Title. </span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Stallion</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “I’ve never run from a fight in my life. I’ve never backed down from a challenge. I’ve never run for the hills. I run towards problems, not away from them. I’m proud to be Indiana Champion. I think I have held this title with dignity. With courage. And if Jack Jackson wants an opportunity at it -- all I can say is how does Thanksgiving Turmoil sound?”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Gordy</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “So to be clear, you’re officially accepting his challenge?”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Stallion walks off of the set.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#FFFF00;"><strong>Earnest</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “If the HPW matchmaking committee sections this match for Thanksgiving Turmoil, that adds another big championship match to an already loaded card. We’ve already got the World Tag Team Titles on the line when The Ring Generals defend against Mr. Grappling and Sandman Winks. The HPW Tag Titles will be on the line when The Texas Express challenge whomever is champion -- right now it’s the Dynamite Express and Talia Neema and Yvonne Ericks will fight in a championship unification match. This could be the fourth big title match of the night. I hope it gets signed.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

"Hawkeye" Nicky Champion versus "The Hillbilly Outlaw" Zippy Deverell</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Nicky Champion came to the ring with his face painted like he was ready for war and perhaps he was. Perhaps he was entering a battle that he had to be in a different mindset. Zippy Deverell came to the ring in bunkhouse attire. He was also ready for a war. Senior Official Bret Graveson stood in the middle of both men and attached the strap to their left wrists. It was tense and the fans in Center Stage were quiet as Graveson explained to both men that the only way to win the match was to touch all four corners in succession. With no interruptions. Weapons were illegal outside of the strap. Graveson called for the bell and Zippy immediately tried to leave the ring but Nicky gripped the strap and dug his heels into the mat and Zippy couldn’t get away. Zippy’s eyes went wide as for the first time he has realized just what he is in for. Nicky smiled the smile of a man ready to inflict punishment and he pulled on the strap, using his size and power advantage to pull Zippy across the ring. Zippy tried to fight it, but Nicky was just bigger and stronger and when he had Zippy close enough he struck forward with a big right hand that spun Zippy around and we were into the match. It was, as promised, a vicious match. Nicky was in control for the majority of the match -- it was his moment, after all. He pummeled Zippy. He whipped him with the strap. He drove the leather into Zippy’s back and it cracked off the walls of the building and the audience looked uncomfortable. Perhaps they hadn’t signed up for this kind of fight. For the level of punishment that Nicky was giving out. Zippy bled early. He bled from his back and arms and chest and head. Nicky was a warrior transported to another dimension. Or a man possessed by the spirit of a long fallen ancestral warrior. Zippy took a beating like only he can. He flew through the air when Nicky threw him. He crawled away, not afraid to play the weasel. He took back bumps with such force that he bounced off of the mat with each one. Nicky seemed not to care about winning the match. He wanted vengeance. He wanted retribution and he was getting it and then a desperate Zippy Deverell went low. Went to the groin of Nicky Champion and Deverell was able to let loose with some offense of his own. He choked Nicky with the strap. He flogged him with it. Mothers in the audience covered their children’s eyes. Zippy hit the Spinning Bulldog and people gasped. He hit the first corner. The second corner. The third corner. As he was going for the fourth corner, Nicky Champion managed to pull him back to the center of the ring and into a </span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><em>Hawkeye Hammer</em></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">. Zippy lay motionless in the center of the ring as Nicky Champion made the trip to each corner and won the contest.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

In an exceptional match, Nicky Champion defeated Zippy Deverell in a Strap match in 14:12 when Nicky Champion was the first to touch all the corners. </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

"The Samoan Superman" Joey Fili versus Funky Fedora © w/ Lucinda Lush</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

After the ultra physical nature of the last match, the crowd was ready for something more traditional and they got it here. This was a classic Southern-style pro wrestling title match. Funky Fedora has really come into his own as a top heel (despite the hatred some people have for his name) and Joey Fili looked like he was ready to shine in his first real main event role in his career. They started off wrestling, going hold for hold, with Fili continuing to come out with the upperhand. Fili hit Fedora with a big hip toss and Fedora got a lot of air with it, his blonde hair flying. After he hit the mat, he rolled away and Fili flexed and the people cheered and Fedora powdered out and Lucinda gave him advice. Fedora got back in and started chopping the chest of Fili but Fili just took it. He roared and flexed again and Fedora backed up into the corner, begging off. He didn’t want Fili to hit him. He did not get his wish as Fili went to work and Fedora was in sell mode for several minutes until he was able to throw an elbow into the throat of Fili. Fedora was able to take control and he focused on the neck. Neckbreakers, a brainbuster, a Running Knee Drop. Everything targeted on softening up Fili for either the Slingshot Back Suplex or the Top Rope Knee Drop. It was a deliberate pace where after he move Fedora went for a cover and when Fili kicked out Fedora locked in a submission to wear Fili down. After several minutes of heat, Fili was able to make a comeback. He hit a Superman Punch that didn’t drop Fedora but put him on wobbly legs. He hit the ropes and came back with a big running kick that turned Fedora inside out. Fili roared and looked poised to go for the finish, but a timely distraction from Lucinda Lush allowed Fedora to hit another neckbreaker and then came off the top rope for the Top Rope Knee Drop and got the successful title defense.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Funky Fedora defeated Joey Fili in 19:27 by pinfall with a Top Rope Knee Drop. Funky Fedora makes defence number five of the COTT Mid American title. </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

“Well shit.” I mumbled as I watched the fans file out after the conclusion of our October tapings. I made a tactical blunder. I booked the strap match and the fans were turned off by it. That was my fault. Grace and Rick tried to warn me that it wasn’t going to go down well with our audience but I had been stubborn. I had wanted to book a strap match like the tape I had seen of Chief Two Eagles and Rip Chord from Texas and that’s what I had booked and it had bit me in the ass. Nicky and Zippy worked their asses off. They gave me the match I wanted it just wasn’t the match the fans wanted and ultimately that was on me.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="snF1S53.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/snF1S53.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

“I told you so.” Grace whispered as she pulled her headset off of her head. I looked at her and rolled my eyes. I could probably say something smart ass back but I had to study her face. We had been out here for just under four hours. The lights were hot and her ears glistened with sweat and for some reason, I thought that was super attractive. She hated it but isn’t that how it normally goes?</p><p> </p><p>

“Yes, you did.” I said honestly and stood up from the desk. I loosened my tie to give my neck and throat some relief. I could probably get away with not wearing a tie. It was 2024 after all, wrestling fans would be okay with the play by play guy not wearing a tie with his shirt and jacket but I would feel weird. All my favorite announcers as a child had worn ties every week and I was going to do the same even if at the end of a four-hour session my neck was red with the imprint of the shirt collar. “You did good tonight.” I told Grace as I collected my papers from the taping. A mixture of notes on the workers, the formats. All the things I needed to get through a show. The production crew had already started to strike the set.</p><p> </p><p>

“I know.” She said confidently. Grace was always confident about her work. It was one of two areas in life that she never second-guessed. She collected her own notes and we began the short walk to the backstage area. It was abuzz with activity. The guys and gals who worked tonight were finishing packing their backs to leave -- we only had two big locker rooms at Center Stage, one for the women and one for the men. They were side by side and opened up into our control position where Mark Hyatt and Rick Sanders ran the whole show.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="aO4dY56.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/aO4dY56.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="qmrwVsm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qmrwVsm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

“I told you.” Rick’s deep, gravely voice greeted me as soon as the curtain closed behind Grace and me.</p><p> </p><p>

“I know.” It was the only reply I could muster. It was true. I miscalculated.</p><p> </p><p>

“We had them beat the crap out of each other and for what?” Rick asked and I swallowed and exhaled.</p><p> </p><p>

“I don’t know Rick. I thought it was a good idea.” I said. I had to look strong because the talent could see and hear us. Rick was big and gruff. He had the respect of everyone in the locker room because they could look up his career. He had wrestled for twenty-nine years. All over North America. Southern fans knew him from SCCW. He spent a decade in New York. He had done loops for the Texas Wrestling League during their dying days. If I kowtowed or bent and gave way I could lose respect and despite the fact that a lot of the guys had been here for years and I trusted them, I was the booker and the guy who paid them their fees. I was the office and they were born to distrust me and anything that could further that distrust had to be snuffed out.</p><p> </p><p>

Rick looked like he was going to say something else but thankfully Mark piped in. “Well we live in learn. It was a good taping. Our second one is in the books. You guys want to get a burger or something. I’m f*****g hungry.” </p><p> </p><p>

Rick shook his head. I could tell he was upset with me. He was always upset when I didn’t listen to him. He thought he knew better than me. He assumed he knew better than anyone who had never actually wrestled. Maybe he was right. Maybe I didn’t know shit from apple butter but, I was still the boss. “I’m good.” Rick replied. “I’m just going to grab some Little Ceasar’s and get some sleep. I’m beat.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Okay, Rick. Good work tonight. You put together some great matches.” I paid Rick the compliment hoping it would ease the tension. It probably wouldn’t. He’d need the night and a gin and tonic and tomorrow he’d call me on the phone and we’d talk and we’d be fine. It had been that way for five years. We’d know each other for over for thirty-two years and we argued like men who had known each other for that long can argue but we also made up quick.</p><p> </p><p>

Rick nodded and left and I looked at Mark. “How did it go back here?”</p><p> </p><p>

He shrugged. “Nicky and Zip weren’t happy the fans didn’t react but other than that it was a pretty smooth night.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Are Nicky and Zip still here?” I asked. I wasn’t sure if they had made a beeline for the exit after their match.</p><p> </p><p>

Mark nodded. “Yeah. They are. And Grace, Yvonne and Talia wanted to talk to you. They’re in the women’s locker room.”</p><p> </p><p>

Grace nodded and looked at me and Mark. “I guess I’ll go talk to Yvonne and Talia then. But we are getting burgers after this. I could use some f****g bacon.” Grace smiled big, the woman did love her bacon burgers. I loosened my tie the rest of the way and headed into the men’s locker room. Just about everyone was gone -- Nicky was still sitting in his metal folding chair as naked as the day he was born with icepacks ace wrapped around his body to reduce the swelling from the welts.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="4oHBsBP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/4oHBsBP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="V9qNagr.jpg?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/V9qNagr.jpg?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Zippy was sprawled out on the cement floor of the locker room, letting the coolness of the floor soothe his own aching body. They looked like two gladiators who had just managed to avoid fighting to the death. </p><p> </p><p>

“Hey fellas.” I announced myself. They both looked up at me. </p><p> </p><p>

“Well that shit the bed.” Nicky said with the bemused look of a veteran who had shit the bed a time or two. Zippy reached for a bottle of Kentucky’s finest that was next to him and took a swig.</p><p> </p><p>

“I’m f*****g pissed.” Zip said and I braced myself for his rant. “How could they not like that? We beat the hell out of each other? Damn people don’t like a good fight?”</p><p> </p><p>

I exhaled that he wasn’t mad at me. “I don’t know, Zip. I thought you guys put on about as good of a strap match as you could have.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Damn right we did. I mean shit. I let Nicky whip me out there. I bled a f****g bucket.” Zippy took another drink from his bourbon and sat up. He had a large bandage on his head and his chest, arms, and back were raw and he was going to be feeling it for days after this. He didn’t normally swear this much either, but the hillbilly in him was coming out in full force with the mixture of adrenaline, frustration, and bourbon relaxing his tongue.</p><p> </p><p>

“You got me pretty good out there.” Nicky said with a laugh. This was as happy as I had seen him since he started with us. Nicky got a bad wrap because of his USPW stint. Sam had never let him go, never unleashed him. Nicky had grown up in the shadows of Dick the Devestator’s territory. He had grown up with tapes of bloody Southern brawls and babyfaces who took a beating. Nicky could take a beating. He <em>wanted</em> to take a beating. </p><p> </p><p>

“You guys both went out there and tore it down. I couldn’t be more proud of you.” I told them both and they smiled. Nicky stood up and I had to try not to laugh at this crazy world of professional wrestling that we lived in. Here were three grown men of various ages. One fully dressed, one in his underwear drinking bourbon and the other swinging free with his torso covered in ace wrap and ice and wasn’t this the epitome of pro wrestling? There was no shame here. No pretence of modesty. “You guys should get dressed and come join Grace and Mark and I for burgers.” I offered against my better judgement.</p><p> </p><p>

“Can’t do it.” Zip said as he sat up. “Rule 9.” </p><p> </p><p>

I had to laugh. He was right. Rule 9 prevented he and Nicky from socializing. I had forgotten my own rule for a moment. “Good point.”</p><p> </p><p>

Zip lifted his bottle up. “Besides. I’m beat the f**k up and Yvonne is feeling good and a beat up Zip and a happy Yvonne means good things.” He winked at Nicky and I without saying exactly what he meant and I had to roll my eyes and Nicky laughed.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well go on and get you some kid.” Nicky said</p><p> </p><p>

“Jesus Nicky. Put some damn pants on.” A female voice called out from behind me and Nicky’s eyes went wide and I looked behind me.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qlN1rmB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qlN1rmB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Dawn Buffalo Tiger nee Coombs, professionally known as Persephone, stood in the doorway of the men’s locker room. Dawn was Nicky’s wife. When Nicky got fired from USPW, they kept her employed but they had sent her home. She had made it clear that when her contract was up she wasn’t going to resign with them and earlier today she had shown up with Nicky to talk to me about a job. I was going to hire her to make Nicky’s life easier, but I let them both know I didn’t have anything for her on the shows until after the first of the year and they were both fine with that.</p><p> </p><p>

Nicky shrugged and fumbled in his bag for something to cover himself with and Zippy quickly pulled jeans on over his skivvies and suddenly both men were half way decent. Zippy smiled at Dawn. “Sorry ‘bout that Miss Dawn. We were just chewing the fat.” His Kentucky twang and manners on full effect.</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh it’s okay.” She says with her own Canadian twang coming through. “I know how it goes. I just need to Nicky to get some food in me. I’m starving.”</p><p> </p><p>

Nicky began the careful process of undoing his ace wrappings as Zippy pulled on his shirt. “I should get Yvonne anyway.” </p><p> </p><p>

And just like that the moment was over and we went our separate ways. The crew finished breaking down the set and Grace, Mark and I found our way to a Steak N’ Shake that was still open (thank God for twenty-four hour burger joints) and Grace got her bacon burger and I got a cajun with a large chili deluxe and Mark got a Fresco Melt and we laughed and ignored the clock and ate and the sun started to come up and we finally all went home.</p><p> </p><p>

Inside our apartment, with the sky orange and red and the sun warming the cool fall night, Grace and I laid in our bed with the blinds mostly pulled. Her head was on my chest and I stared at the ceiling. “Is this how good life is now?” I asked Grace. I waited but got no response. She had fallen asleep and I smiled. I had spent thirty-two years working to this moment. Even with a booking misstep, I was living my boyhood dream and wasn’t that enough? Right now it was.</p>

Earnest, “Hello and welcome to another exciting and thrillpacked episode of Wrestling Spotlight. I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined today by my broadcast colleague Grace Harper. What a show we have in store for you tonight. In our main event, The Dynamite Express puts the Tag Titles on the line against The Montgomery Brothers in what should be a really good contest.”

Harper, ”It should be a good contest. A very competitive contest that has a lot to do with what will be going on at Thanksgiving Turmoil.”

Earnest, “Before we get started, we have a video package about the upcoming title unification match.”

05TFh3q.png

q32tOPo.jpgbU1IQXb.jpg

We see a hype video for the upcoming match between Neema and Ericks. Both women are highlighted throughout the years they have spent in CWI and then HPW. HPW even got some footage from EWA where Neema has twice been EWA Women’s Champion. The video highlights their past interactions with each other and goes over how this is a feud that is several years in the making and isn’t just a flash in the pan. These are two women that don’t like each other and have never liked each other and have both succeeded in wrestling. A big deal is made that Ericks is the first, and so far only, Women’s Triple Crown Winner but if Neema is able to beat her to unify the titles, Neema will also be a Triple Crown Winner. The video ends with the text of Title versus Title, Unification, only at Thanksgiving Turmoil.

Earnest, “Right now it’s Talia Neema versus Yvonne Ericks at Thanksgiving Turmoil but next week Talia Neema puts the All Action Championship on the line against the undefeated Lacey Montgomery. Could Lacey upset the planned match and insert herself into the title unification match? We’ll find out next week.”

Harper, ”I’m looking forward to that match.”

Earnest, “Up next is our opening match of the evening. Nebo Martell takes on Roy Goodlooks.

Nebo Martell versus Roy Goodlooks

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, Roy Goodlooks defeated Nebo Martell in 3:51 by pinfall with a Southern Justice.

Earnest, “Roy Goodlooks just shocked the wrestling world with a win over Nebo Martell. Martell has been a bright young prospect and tonight Roy Goodlooks took him out to the Bunkhouse.”

Harper, ”Goodlooks has all the tools to be a star and maybe this is the start of him becoming that.”

Earnest, “Maybe. Up next, Taylor Gordy will be interviewing Mark Hyatt. Maybe we’ll finally find out where Mark Hyatt has been the past two months.”

We cut to the interview booth where Taylor Gordy is standing with Mark Hyatt. Mark Hyatt doesn’t look happy. We haven’t seen him since Wrestling Spotlight started two months ago.

TiIkT9w.jpgaO4dY56.jpg

Gordy, “Thank you Marv and Grace. Mark, we haven’t seen you in two months and all of the HPW fans want to know where you’ve been?”

Hyatt, “Where have I been? I’ll tell you we’re I’ve been. Trying to get my job back. You see those two over there. Yeah, you Marv and Grace. They tried to have me fired so that Grace could have my job. It wasn’t enough that someone here in HPW got my manager’s license suspended and I was forced to become a commentator and then had Ox Mastadon stolen from me when I got reinstated, they tried to get me fired too. So my Mama worked around the clock to get me my job back. To get me here on TV. But don’t worry Grace and Marv. I’m not going back into the commentary booth. No. My mama was able to secure my managerial license back and secured a new client. Someone who is pissed off. Someone who is mad at the world. Someone who can really make good on my grudges and someone I can lead to the top of the mountain here. They’re coming soon. REAL soon.”

Mark Hyatt walked off and left Taylor Gordy standing there.

Gordy, “Well I guess Mark Hyatt is back in HPW and he’s got a new client coming soon. I’ll try to find out who it is, but in the meantime back to you Marv and Grace.”

In an extremely short match, Joey Fili defeated Curtis Jenkins in 3:42 by pinfall with a Spinning Back Fist.

Match Rating

Earnest, “After his loss last week, Joey Fili rebounds with a big win over veteran Curtis Jenkins.”

Harper, ”Jenkins was just never able to get out of the blocks tonight. That Superman Punch at the beginning of the match rocked him and it was all Fili from there. Jenkins has nothing to be ashamed of though. Sometimes you just get caught. It’s the nature of a competitive sport like pro wrestling. You can be a great wrestler, but sometimes you have an off night or get caught with a strike or a hold and it’s all she wrote.”

Earnest, “That’s certainly what happened here tonight. Will it happen in our next match? Two men making their in-ring debuts here in Heartland Pro Wrestling. Keith Vegas and Jack Jackson.”

Harper, ”These two men could not be any more different. Keith Vegas was nicknamed Mr. Ordinary by his peers. He’s unassuming. He’s not outlandish. He’s not an athletic marvel. He’s just a hardworking, blue collar wrestler. He shows up, he puts his time in. He’s a throwback to days gone by of a pro wrestler. Jack Jackson is showtime. He’s glitz and glamour. He’s big arenas and limos and pretty women. These two stylistically could not be any more different and I’m very curious to see who is going to come out on top in this one.

Earnest, “Jack Jackson was very impressive just now in his win over Keith Vegas.”

Harper, ”If he can wrestle like that against Wild Red Stallion at Thanksgiving Turmoil, we could be seeing a new Indiana Heavyweight Champion.”

Earnest, “It’ll be a great match, but speaking of champions, Taylor Gordy is standing by with the Mid American Champion Funky Fedora. Take it away Taylor.”

We cut to the interview area where Taylor Gordy is standing by with Funky Fedora and Lucinda Lush.

TiIkT9w.jpgVulmXLV.jpgz29wduK.jpg

Gordy, “Last week, you beat Joey Fili to retain the Mid America Championship but I’ve been told that you already know who you’re going to wrestle at Thanksgiving Turmoil?”

Lush, “That’s right, we do know who Funky’s going to be wrestling at Thanksgiving Turmoil. We’ve been presented the contract to sign, and frankly, Funky and myself are both appalled at the match that has been offered him.”

Gordy, “Well what has been offered?”

Lucinda and Funky exchange furtive glances.

Lush, “Heartland Pro Wrestling and the Confederation of the Territories would like Funky Fedora, the Mid American Champion going on fourteen months now, to defend the Mid American Championship against Nicky Champion at Thanksgiving Turmoil.”

Gordy, “What? That’s huge news.”

Fedora, “It is. I can’t believe the COTT. I can’t believe the way they keep trying to screw me. The way they keep trying to get this championship out of my hands. When will they recognize that I’m the best champion in the COTT? When will they recognize that I deserve -- DESERVE -- a shot at the World Heavyweight Title? That should be what’s at Thanksgiving Turmoil. Instead, I’ve got to go up against Nicky Champion? I’ve got to step into a ring with an unhinged maniac like that? I saw what he did to Zippy Deverell last week. Notice that Zippy isn’t even here tonight because of it. Because of the barbary that Nicky Champion displayed. Who did I piss off in the COTT office?”

Gordy, “Well I can assure you that I don’t know anything about that.”

Fedora, “Of course you don’t. Why would you? But all I know is that I’m going to sign the contract and at Thanksgiving Turmoil, I’m going to once again prove why I’m the measuring stick in professional wrestling and I’m going to beat Nicky Champion and maybe then the COTT will finally give me what I deserve.”

Funky Fedora and Lucinda Lush walk off.

Gordy, “Well there you have it. A blockbuster main event is going to happen at Thanksgiving Turmoil. Marv and Grace, back to you.”

Angle Rating

Earnest, “Woah. I can’t believe what I just heard. Funky Fedora putting the Mid American title on the line against Nicky Champion at Thanksgiving Turmoil? That’s a main event if I’ve ever heard one.”

Harper, ”It absolutely is Marv. With his win over Zippy Deverell last week in that brutal strap match, The COTT Championship Committee must have deemed him ready for his first title opportunity in the COTT. That should be an excellent match and will be worth the price of admission to the Fountain Square Theatre alone.”

Earnest, “You’re right about that, but we can’t focus on that match that will go down in three weeks. We have a women’s division match up next as second generation Mirai Kajahara steps into the ring against Canadian export Jessica Conroy.”

Harper, ”Both of these women need a win here tonight, Marv. Both are incredibly talented. Both could be stars in this sport. Both could be champions, but they have to start stringing wins together. Both have struggled with that consistency and a win here could be the catalyst to more wins.”

In a decent match, Jessica Conroy defeated Mirai Kajahara in 6:43 by pinfall with a Marveliser.

Match Rating

(36)

Earnest, “Jessica Conroy just got the much needed win. She looked really good out there against the very talented Mirai Kajahara.”

Harper, ”Conroy is incredibly talented. She’s struggled some here in HPW with consistency. She’s had a hard time stringing together wins, but maybe this is the break she needs to start separating herself from the pack.”

Earnest, “Maybe. I know all the staff at the House of Stone would love to see her start to create some separation between her and the rest of the women on our roster. Before we get to our main event, Taylor Gordy is standing by with Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good.”

We cut to the interview area where Taylor Gordy is standing by with Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good.

TiIkT9w.jpgrqaDjDy.jpg?1YEVEPeu.jpg

Gordy, “Two weeks ago you guys got your match with Bred for Battle. It was right here on Wrestling Spotlight and the match went the entire twenty minute time limit and went to a draw. How do you guys feel coming out of that?”

DeMarcus, “We feel like we need to run it back. We proved two weeks ago that we can hang in the ring with them. With as big as they are. As bad as they are. Me and Warwick stood in the pocket with them and we went blow for blow and in twenty minutes they couldn’t be us and we couldn’t beat them. So why not go one more time?”

Good, “Why not do it at Thanksgiving Turmoil? Why not really find out just how good Bred for Battle really is. Andrew Gibson, you afraid your boys can’t beat me and Nate? You think you can’t handle two bad men like us? Or if you’re as confident as you say you are, we’ll see you in three weeks.”

Nate and Warwick walk off.

Gordy, “The challenge has been laid down. Marv and Grace, back to you.”

Earnest, “What a big night this has turned out to be. Mark Hyatt returned after two months of being missing in action. Funky Fedora and Nicky Champion has been announced for Thanksgiving Turmoil and now Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good have challenged Bred for Battle to a rematch.”

Harper, ”It has been a big night Marv and it looks like Thanksgiving Turmoil is going to be a blockbuster show in three weeks at the Fountain Square Theatre. The kind of show you won’t want to miss.”

Earnest, “Definitely -- and it will be airing right here on WrestleWorld. If you can’t be here live, you won’t want to miss it. Up next, our main event of the evening. The Dynamite Express, the reigning HPW Tag Team Champions put their titles on the line against the team of Robert and Kyle Montgomery. If the Montgomery Brothers win, they will defend against The Texas Express at Thanksgiving Turmoil. If The Dynamite Express wins, we know that it’s going to be them versus The Texas Express.”

Harper, ”There’s a lot on the line here, Marv. It’s a high stakes match. Championships and a big show match. This is the pressure cooker for sure. Kyle and Robert have been on a roll since last March when they lost in the March Madness tournament, but the Dynamite Express are the Heartland Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions for a reason. The Montgomery Brothers are going to have their work cut out for them tonight.”

The Montgomery Brothers are rumored to be on their way out of HPW and to a contract with USPW’s new developmental company Gulf Coast Wrestling. Tonight, the brothers had an opportunity with the spotlight on them, in the main event of the evening, to show what they can do against arguably the best tag team in North America. This was a well-put together match that showed the brothers’ power and natural chemistry while allowing the Dynamite Express to showcase their experience as a team and just experience as professionals. It was that experience that proved to be the difference, as The Dynamite Express was able to hit big Robert Montgomery Jr with the Chop and Charge and notch their sixth successful defense.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Dynamite Express defeated Montgomery Brothers #1 in 15:48 when Cam Jones pinned Robert Montgomery Jr. with a Chop and Charge. The Dynamite Express make defence number six of the HPW Tag Team.

Earnest, “It’s official. At Thanksgiving Turmoil we will see The Dynamite Express put the HPW Tag Team Titles on the line against The Texas Express. We’re all out of time for tonight though. A/N: For the time being, the shows are going to look something like this. Writing squash matches/short enhancement matches has gotten tedious and repetitive, so the plan for Wrestling Spotlight going forward is to write the main event/big matches and the angles. Should save some time. My imgur wasn't working when I went to post this, that's why there are no match rating graphics and it's just the numbers. I didn't want to want for my imgur to work to post.
