Good evening wrestling fans around the world. As we enter the second half of the year it's been an interesting start to the new decade for the professional wrestling world but I'm not here to report on the rest of the world. This article is about the biggest event that the independent Tag Team scene has to offer.

This year's Sam Keith Classic hits an impressive milestone in that this will be the tenth year that it is an active part of the independent wrestling scene. The Confederation of the Territories, another Sam Keith creation, brings together seven independent companies under one umbrella to share talent, compete with each other and compete for gold. Those seven companies are:

Coastal Zone Championship Wrestling

FREEDOM Caribbean Wrestling

Invincible Pro Wrestling

Mid Atlantic Wrestling

New York City Wrestling

Original Lucha Libre Is Eternal

Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling

In order to make the tenth Sam Keith Classic the biggest and best yet, Sam has deemed it appropriate for the event to take place over two nights instead of the usual one, with a huge sixteen teams taking part in the knockout tournament. The sixteen teams will be made up of tag teams from the respective companies (or at least those who took part) and it's my job to give you the rundown of all the details including the participants and the draw itself. So without further ado, let's have a look and see.

Sam Keith Classic Entrants

w0chjel.jpgBgZebcm.jpg

American Made (MAW)

The MAW duo is made up of Kip Keenan, who arrived a few months ago from FCW, and Jack America who has been slowly rising the ranks in MAW. They are a tag team who have shown a lot of potential in their short time together and, although you wouldn't class them as favourites, there's no reason why they can't make a good run of it.

VwunrmK.jpgDRc7Ik3.jpg

Barnaby & Rudge (IPW)

Representing IPW are the former two-time tag champs there, Ash Barnaby & Zach Rudge. An experienced and yet still young duo, they only recently had their second reign as IPW champs ended and will be here with a point to prove. Could do well.

JJNBNzV.jpgAMqJ8Sj.jpg

BFT (MAW)

Carlos Randleman and Milton Monk, recent debutants to the business and TCW development talent, are representing MAW but, more than that, they're also representing their stable, TCW: Twentieth Century Watch. The duo relies on Blunt Force Trauma to get the job done. Although they're unlikely to win it all, I wouldn't bet against them if they can stay focused on winning instead of just hurting people but that seems to be easier said than done for these brutes.

u2zGNXE.jpgWbBhrSQ.jpg

DeMarcus & Gray (MAW)

It's been a very disappointing year for the duo. They only managed two defences before losing their MAW tag titles to The Past Masters and, although they have won more than they've lost, Nate said that he felt a change was needed and if they didn't win here that they'd go their separate ways. They've been a fine team for 5 years and have won the tournament before but I can't see their fortunes changing here.

KkZ03pk.jpgeb6iByL.jpg

Evil Intent (OLLIE)

Slayyer & Hellspawn666, representing OLLIE at 45 & 39 respectively, are the oldest duo in the tournament but don't for a second think that counts them out. They're also the most decorated team in the tournament holding three different Tag Team titles for a total of seven reigns together. Not to mention more reigns with other partners. One of those reigns included ten months as COTT Tag Champs so they very well could be the team to beat.

yyimNmu.jpgsef1Jq4.jpg

Going Coastal (CZCW)

The charismatic and flashy duo of California Love Machine & Frankie-Boy Fernandes represent CZCW this year and have a flair for the acrobatic as a team. Three-time tag champs in CZCW, they've been a bit down on their luck this year on home soil but there's no reason why it can't turn around here.

cy4vU48.jpgLLJYsCf.jpg

Franke Perez & Masked Cougar (CZCW)

The current holders of the tournament. Both men have been struggling in CZCW in their pursuits of singles gold but they are talented performers who have won it recently and so you can't count them out becoming the first team to win it twice.

A0lgVVC.jpgj2TaqvA.jpg

Rich & Famous (PSW)

The current PSW champions. Jordan & Idol are also four-time tag champs in CZCW and are currently enjoying their second reign as PSW tag champs. Arrogant and brash with the ability to back it up, this duo could be strong contenders to go all the way.

xpViMll.jpgKvTNRx9.jpg

The Boys from Yukon (NYCW)

The current NYCW Tag Team champions and enjoying their third reign with the belts. They've got eight years of experience as a duo and are undefeated this year in NYCW. It wouldn't be a stretch to see them in the running.

44IAeTM.jpgxKwQORg.jpg

The Bruisin' Blues (MAW)

Findlay and Tennessee William only recently aligned a few weeks ago at MAW Fan Festival as Findlay made his return to the company. William opted to team with the big fella here as opposed to Deuce Deadline, his other muscle, and it could be a fine choice with Findlay having won the tournament eight years ago alongside Matthew Keith. A dangerous combination, especially with the return of arguably the most dominant wrestler in the company's history.

jb96bKK.jpgvHcj4ac.jpg

The Disaster Artists (MAW)

Seth Whitehead and The Architect recently joined together to form the TCW stable and defeated DeMarcus & Gray in their only match together so far. Their inexperience as a duo could be offset by their individual strengths and what better way to make a statement leading a new stable than to win gold straightaway?

nv4Gr5g.jpglBb0uOT.jpg

The Heartbreak Express (MAW)

The two-time MAW tag champs have had an unexciting and difficult 2020 so far with limited success. An opportunity to bounce back emphatically is upon them here but on their current form I can't see their fortunes changing.

he0EjeT.jpgg4jz2Ak.jpg

The Latino Kings (MAW)

The five-time FCW Tag Champs have breathed some fresh life into what was a lagging tag division in MAW but so far success in the way of gold has eluded them. The most experienced team in the tournament having been together for fourteen years, perhaps this format is exactly the sort of thing they need to continue their springboard for success.

WHZiouF.jpg7dJ1zWg.jpg

The Past Masters (MAW)

The current MAW Tag Team champions have had a barnstormer of a year in 2020 so far. They haven't lost cleanly yet and have proven to be quite the formidable duo. Compounding their current tag team success with a victory here is very possible and would immediately catapult them into the area of all-time great tag teams in MAW.

mUOQjsf.jpgrur4C1p.jpg

The Puerto Rican Boys (FCW)

Island Boy Apollo and Kid San Juan have been teaming for ten years and have three reigns as FCW tag team champions to their name. An incredibly talented duo with bags of experience who could do really well this year despite the amount of talent that'll be on display.

5WzsOyQ.jpgo555rG0.jpg

The Wolf Pack (MAW)

Having been teaming together for a little over three years, these fellas are still only 21 & 22 respectively and can go with the best of them. They've had a very disappointing year with only one win for them so far but you shouldn't count them out completely. Surprises do happen in these sorts of tournaments.

And so there we have the sixteen teams who'll be fighting for tag team supremacy and to join previous winners such as Hollywood Bret Starr & KC Glenn, Cameron Vessey & Casey Valentine and The American Cobras, Marvel Malloy & Storm Spillane. The tournament has the potential to be a star making opportunity so let's look at the draw and see who can go all the way to glory...

Going Coastal (CZCW) [vs] The Heartbreak Express (MAW)

- A decent show opener saw these two teams give it all they hadfor the opportunity to advance to the quarter-finals.

- Both teams have had lacklustre 2020's so far and this was a fine opportunity to turn it around.

- A good, clean fight was simply decided by who would be the better team. California Love Machine put away Liotta with the LAX Departure to advance to the next stage.

Evil Intent (OLLIE) [vs] The Latino Kings (MAW)

- These two teams have met once previously during Evil Intent's reign as COTT World Tag Team Champions three years ago where the champions retained.

- The Latino Kings are currently in their career prime and enjoying a decent run of late between MAW & FCW whereas, despite their experience and legacy of gold together, Evil Intent were on a 4-14 record going into this match

- That record changed for the worse to 4-15 as Rudy Velasquez put away the 45-year-old Slayyer with the Street Cutter.

Rich & Famous (PSW) [vs] The Wolf Pack (MAW)

- These two teams come into this contest in very different stages of their careers with very different current form. Idol & Jordan have been tag champs in two different companies, are in their primes as well as currently being on a 9-0 record this year coming into the tournament. Not to mention that they're 5 defences deep into their current reign as PSW Tag Team Champions. The Wolf Pack are young, hungry and have the potential to do well in their careers but are currently 1-4 for the year in tag team action and have been struggling.

- Noggin & Tokoeka gave it a valiant effort and represented MAW exceptionally well but they just didn't have enough going on to take down the in-form and arrogant duo that opposed them,

- Idol put away Noggin with a Reality Check to pick up the victory

The Disaster Artists (MAW) [vs] Barnaby & Rudge (IPW)

- Seth Whitehead was winless this year until he first teamed with The Architect at MAW Old School Rules in May. Now these two look to lead the way for their Twentieth Century Watch stable. The IPW made 4 defences of their IPW Tag titles before losing them at IPW Invincibility in June. They're looking to bounce back.

- It was a good encounter between two different outfits. Despite being the 'bad guys', The Disaster Artists were greeted with more favour than Barnaby & Rudge, even when they resorted to dirty tactics to gain the upper hand.

- Zach Rudge built up a head of steam but was abruptly cut off by The Architect who caught him with The Blueprint and Rudge had no option but to tap.

BFT (MAW) [vs] The Boys From The Yukon (NYCW)

- This match featured 4 menacing and imposing figures ready to slug it out. BFT recently witness their stablemates/leaders prevail in the previous bout and so surely would be encouraged by this, even if it meant facing them in the next round.

- The first few minutes involved the duos standing and trading shots before Monk & Randleman moved to the outside. They seemed to whisper and talk to each other before grabbing a couple of steel chairs from under the ring.

- They re-entered the ring and before the NYCW duo could react they were eating sickening chair shot after sickening chair shot which left the ref no option but to call for the bell.

- BFT clearly figured that instead of trying to win and face The Disaster Artists, they could brutally hurt and soften up The Boys From The Yukon to give their stablemates an advantage in the next round.

The Past Masters (MAW) [vs] DeMarcus & Gray (MAW)

- These two teams have some recent history between them in this year with The Past Masters defeating their opponents at MAW Americana in April to become MAW tag champs.

- The champions came into this full of confidence and arrogance but were abruptly taken down a few notches in the early goings by Nate DeMarcus who is a man on a mission at the moment.

- Eventually, the heelish tactics got the better of Nate and he tagged in Gray who brought some babyface fire to the fast-paced contest.

- The comeback was abruptly cut off though as Gray got overconfident and was caught in The Deep Sleep by Sandman. Historian was quick off the mark and cut off Nate who was attempting to make the save. Tyrone held on well but eventually couldn't hold on any longer and tapped out before he passed out.

- Once the celebrations had finished, Nate lifted Tyrone to his feet, shook his hand, gave him a slap on the back and walked away leaving his 'partner', or now ex-partner, behind as the fans showed their appreciation for the duo.

American Made (MAW) [vs] The Bruisin' Blues (MAW)

- Findlay made an impactful return to MAW last month taking out Caulfield & Youngman and makes his official in-ring return tonight alongside the hottest heel in the company.

- America & Keenan haven't been together long but have shown great chemistry in the time together and that showed here. They took in turns to have a go at Findlay but neither could prevail 1-on-1. However, they did seem to slowly be wearing down the big fella.

- When William entered the fray, he immediately resorted to dirty heelish tactics to exert his dominance but Keenan & America were having none of it and the fans were rallying behind the duo.

- Findlay saved the match on several occasions with interrupting pinfalls and eventually when he was again the legal man, he found another gear that America & Keenan couldn't compete with. He went on a 2-minute streak of dominance and seeming impervious to pain before he put the 19-year old America away emphatically with a vertebrae shattering Atomic Spinebuster.

The Puerto Rican Boys (FCW) [vs] Perez & Cougar (CZCW)

- The reigning champions close the show out against Island Boy Apollo and Kid San Juan in what was sure to be a show stealer. Cougar's last appearance in MAW was in this year's RCI tournament losing to Tennessee William. From there he, and Perez, have both had underwhelming years. The current FCW Tag Team Champions were looking to add on to that.

- In a decent card of good tag action, this was the definite MOTN. Both teams went all-out in order to try and advance to the next round. That shows the importance of the Sam Keith Classic to these teams.

- 15 minutes of non-stop action were brought to a close when Perez connected with his brutal Perfect Parity finisher to ensure that the reigning holders would continue to fight to defend their trophy and close out the show in an impactful manner

The Latino Kings (MAW) [vs] Rich & Famous (PSW)

- An excellent opening match for the second night of the prestigious event that very nearly stole MOTN honours.

- This was 14 minutes of all-out, steal the show action with neither team willing to give up an inch for the shot at success.

- The Kings had the backing of the Baltimore audience but Rich & Famous kept The Kings at bay for most of the encounter keeping the pressure on.

- The Kings rallied the usual babyface comeback but were cut off by Jordan who wasn't in the mood for messing about tonight. He means business.

- The finish came when the PSW duo landed their 'The House Always Wins' finish on Galindo and secured the 3 count to advance.

Going Coastal (CZCW) [vs] The Bruisin' Blues (MAW)

- Two teams that made it safely and, mostly, comfortably through their matches last night met here. Going Coastal look to continue turning around their 2020 fortunes. Findlay & William just looking to cause chaos on a path of destruction.

- Tennessee lived up to his 'chicken shit' heel status as he enters the ring, plant a couple of dirty, cheap shots on the opponents and then tag back in Findlay to cover his ass. This continued to work well and they kept the flashy & charismatic duo on the back foot for most of the clash but Going Coastal continued to try and fight back.

- Findlay thrust the duo both to the outside as he jeered and taunted the crowd in attendance. The boos turned to cheers from the audience as Chris Caulfield was back in MAW again. He waded through the crowd and hopped the barricade with a Kendo Stick in hand. He stood in front of Frankie-Boy, said the words 'I'm sorry' and slapped him across the face. Referee Jay Fair called for the bell as Findlay looked absolutely incensed. Rules are rules.

Post-Match

- The audience begin to take in what happened and cheer as Findlay and William have lost. Caulfield turns to the duo in the ring and chuckles whilst swinging and twirling his kendo stick. Findlay gestures 'Come on' at the Hardcore American. Caulfield obliges.

- He slides into the ring, ducks a clothesline from the big guy and connects with a swing of the stick on William. He turns, plants a crack of the stick on the skull of Findlay then cracks William with another as the Musician falls and slides out of the ring.

- Findlay made his mark on Caulfield on his return last month and now the legend is returning the favour in a big way. He gets in a few more shots before William returns with his guitar and Caulfield, not wanting to eat one of those shots again, calls time and hops out of the ring. Kendo stick raised high in the air to cheers from the Baltimore audience.

The Boys From The Yukon (NYCW) [vs] The Disaster Artists (MAW)

- Last night was a painful but successful night for the New York-based duo. They came off worse for wear in their fight vs BFT, the musclemen underlings of The Disaster Artists, but did win via DQ and are here if a bit banged up. Whitehead & The Architect navigated a tough encounter vs Barnaby & Rudge and looked good in the process.

- Facing a softened up Whittaker & Mort made The Disaster Artists job much easier than it otherwise would've been tonight.

- The burly duo representing NYCW gave a good fight but the bumps and bruises from last night proved too much to overcome and Mort submitted to The Blueprint.

The Past Masters (MAW) [vs] Perez & Cougar (CZCW)

- The high quality on display continued in this contest between the current MAW Tag Team Champions and the current holders of the Sam Keith Classic.

- Perez & Cougar excelled last night in a tough encounter while The Past Masters cemented the split of Nate DeMarcus & Tyrone Gray.

- The contest was an excellently competitive affair with Perez & Cougar more flamboyant offense coming up against the more grounded, technical and hard-hitting moveset of The Past Masters.

- The finish came when Cougar came flying off the top rope with a crossbody that was caught by Sandman. He slammed Cougar into the mat and then snatched on the Deep Sleep. Historian prevented Perez from breaking up the hold and Cougar wasn't able to escape the hold and eventually passed out as the ref called for the bell.

Rich & Famous (PSW) vs Going Coastal (CZCW)

- Idol & Jordan came through a tough encounter vs The Latino Kings to make it this far while Machine * Fernandes made it through, perhaps controversially and unjustly, via DQ and an interfering Chris Caulfield vs The Bruisin' Blues.

- These two teams have plenty of history together having competed with each other for a number of years in CZCW before Rich & Famous took their talents to the Tri-State area and all of that history was on display in a fiercely competitive match.

- History suggests that although both teams are incredibly talented, Rich & Famous have been the more successful duo and that was the case this evening.

- 16-minutes of tremendous, MOTN action came to an end as the PSW 'bad guys' landed their "The House Always Wins" finish on Love Machine to reach the final.

The Disaster Artists (MAW) [vs] The Past Masters (MAW)

- This match would guarantee at least one MAW team would make it in the final tournament but would it be the MAW tag champs The Past Masters? Or would it be the leaders of TCW in The Disaster Artists?

- Neither team fought cleanly in this one as each tried to out 'heel' the other. Excellent technical exchanges were on offer throughout with The Architect leading the way and proving to have the advantage over both Sandman Winks and The Historian.

- As the match reached its climax The Architect locked in The Blueprint on Sandman. Whitehead headed into the ring looking to block off any interference from The Historian but stumbled and crashed into the referee that sent them both to the mat. Sandman started to tap out but the bell wasn't called for as McArthuer was floored. The Historian picked up Whitehead and flung him from the ring with great ferocity. He then stomped on The Architect's head, lifted him and planted him with a Blast From The Past. He rallied around his partner and then rolled out of the ring as the referee started to come around.

- Sandman gathered his senses and spotted the downed Architect. He then snatched on his Deep Sleep hold and within 10 seconds Architect tapped out so send The Past Masters to the final!

Something on my mind...

vrARkAA.jpgrGy6txo.jpg

Marvin Earnest stands in the ring and his promptly joined by Chris Caulfield who is still holding and swinging that kendo stick that caused a lot of hurt earlier on this evening.

Marvin, ever the professional, waits for the crowd to calm slightly before addressing them...

Marvin: Everybody I'm joined by "The Hardcore American" Chris Caulfield and Chris, after the events that transpired last month at Americana and then this evening... what's on your mind?"

Caulfield: "Well, Marv, it's as simple as this. Findlay made his return last month and decided to take out me and Ernest Youngman to make his statement and all I've heard since then is how Findlay is apparently...allegedly... the most dominant guy in MAW history. And I just don't see it"

The crowd cheers in response to this as Chris smirks

"This guy left here, went to have a fairly mediocre time of it in Japan. His partner Bulldozer got a call to go to USPW... he didn't. He didn't get a call to go anywhere. He spent 6 mediocre years in Japan without ever really making much of an impact. Was released from Japan and didn't get a call to go anywhere during the 3 months between leaving there and showing up here?

I mean... that doesn't sound like something that should happen to somebody who is dominant, does it?

But look, I'm in a good mood. But not a forgiving one. You took me out last month. I cost you big tonight. We're not even. So let's get even.

Next month. The Battle Of The Mid Atlantic. You and me. Baltimore street fight?! Let's see how tough and dominant you really are...

The crowd 'pops' as Caulfield throws the mic back to Marv and walks away, kendo stick raised in the air, drinking in the adulation.

Special Exhibition. Champion vs Champion.

30-minute time limit

7JoNbH4.jpgErLZ6iq.jpgbOHDD9y.jpg

Bradley Blaze vs Davis Wayne Newton

- MAW's two singles champions come together in a clash here for belt supremacy. Bradley Blaze is 258 days deep into his reign as Mid Atlantic Champion but has only made 4 defences in that time, such is the mettle it takes to be worthy of challenging for the title.

- DWN is 85 days deep into his reign as Mid Atlantic American champion with 2 defences to his name. Both men are elite talents but the crowd certainly favoured their Dallas Cowboy hero in Blaze.

- A nice change of pace from the tag team action on show the past 2 evenings this match went a little over 16 minutes and the crowd were with them on the whole journey. The match was a fairly even back-and-forth affair with both men getting their shots in. DWN opting for limb targeting compared to Blaze's fiery brawling style.

- Around the 15-minute mark with both men tiring from the all-out match, Blaze managed to hoist DWN up onto to his shoulders in an attempt to deliver an F-5. As he swung his opponent around, DWN's legs clipped McArthuer in the face and sent the ref to the floor. DWN used the momentum of the swing to somehow land on his feet, deliver a swift kick to the gut of Blaze and deliver his Fisherman's Suplex. The count was for 3 but there was no referee available to make it.

- DWN stared incredulously at the ref and at Blaze despairing the fact that he should've just beaten the champion. During the stare he hadn't noticed that Nate 'The Great' DeMarcus had arrived into the ring to cheers from the Baltimore crowd. As he turned DeMarcus tore through him with a Snap Tackle that left DWN crumpled on the ground. Nate rose to his feet, shouted "I'm coming for you, boy!" and left the ring to the jubilant crowd chanting his name.

- The ref slowly came to as did Blaze. DWN rose, holding his gut and seeming out on his feet. He stumbled his way towards Blaze who floored him with a Dallas Drop. 3 seconds later and this one was over.

Rich & Famous (PSW) [vs] The Past Masters (MAW)

- These two teams have come through possibly the most competitive field in Sam Keith Classic history and were determined to give it everything they had left for tournament glory.

- Three intense matches over two nights is no easy feat though and tiredness began to play a role in this match after the early stages. The Past Masters had the advantage over their opponents for the middle portion of the match and it was looking promising for a MAW team to emerge victorious for the first time since 2016. As always though you can never count Jordan and Idol out and through dirty tactics and smart tag action they fought back to retake the advantage.

- Sandman turned the momentum and suddenly snatched in the Deep Sleep on Idol but Jordan was quick off the mark in breaking it up. The Historian interfered and attempted to land his Blast From The Past but Jackpot reversed the momentum and speared himself and Historian through the ropes. Sandman was briefly distracted by the altercation and was about to go to the outside before remembering that he had Idol where he wanted him.

- He returned and attempted to lock in the Deep Sleep again but Idol was savvy to it and dropped to the mat to Stunner the Sandman. Jordan had by this stage returned to the ring and the duo planted Sandman with The House Always Wins before Idol made the cover. Really good show!!!

Really good show!

The show was a really good read, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you very much. Appreciate the positive responses and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Caulfield really messed up my predictions but I suppose I can't blame him. Surprised to see R&F win but I appreciate you resisting the temptation to go for MAW champs. When you bring in people from other promotions I feel like they have to win sometimes to make it more realistic.

Yeah, I figured that Caulfield would upset a lot of the picks that were coming through and be the 'Gedo Style' bracket buster.

I swayed on giving The Past Masters the victory but, as you say, it almost seems a bit like easy favouritism to give your own team the victory.

The heel vs heel final tanked the show rating but it made sense to give R&F the victory given their current showings this year in the save.

I flicked open a blind and looked out through the black Venetians that covered the back window of my office. I watched on as the last few stragglers left the Stanley Hall and could just about make out their excited chatter about the events that had just transpired at our latest event, MAW Fan Festival. I recognised their faces. They were loyal fans of the company. They'd been coming to the shows for years and they were exactly the sort of people that I'm in this business for.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

Our third consecutive sold-out show at the 300 seater venue was arguably our best of the year so far. Great matches across the card were Main Evented by a grudge match of Chris Caulfield & Ernest Youngman vs Deuce Deadline & Tennessee William. The show culminated in the return of one of our biggest and best products of the Mid Atlantic Bootcamp: Findlay O'Farraday. He re-debuted in the company taking out Caulfield & Youngman (two of our biggest babyfaces) and siding with Tennessee William (Currently our hottest heel). It was a perfect melting pot of action and story that the fans ate up and it was an excellent way to top off what has been a good first half of the new decade.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

I turned away from the window and sat down on the reclining office chair that occupied the spot between the window and my desk. From one of the drawers, I pulled out a remote control and turned on the speaker system that covered the high corners of the office walls. From an oak cabinet sitting just next to the desk, I pulled out a bottle of Lagavulin single malt with two glasses and half-filled each of them. Finally, I cranked up the CCR on the speakers and began to relax to the familiar rhythmic strum of one of my favourite bands as I closed my eyes for a few seconds and relaxed.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

Chris timed his entrance perfectly shouting as loudly as the air in his lungs would allow him to. I threw myself forwards from the reclined position in my chair, startled, and looked towards the door. He was stood there with his hair dripping onto his maroon coloured hoodie and his arms raised high into air singing to the ceiling.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"Please, this song is older and longer-lasting than you or I" I retorted. He raised his eyebrows and gave another light laugh before joining me at the desk in the chair opposite. I slid one of the whisky filled glasses across the smooth surface of the desk towards him, raised mine and waited for him to respond in kind. "To a hell of a show!". We clinked glasses and each took a sip from our glass before both letting out an exhale of satisfaction as I turned the volume back down on the song.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

I nodded my head in acknowledgement and took another, longer sip from my glass before placing it down again. I couldn't be surprised by this revelation. He was forty-six years old, had had a very impressive career and through his wrestling styles and preferences had given so much of himself to this business and those within it. He was one of the boldest and bravest performers I had ever met in the industry and it would only be expected that his body might be quite banged up.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"You know as well as I do that it's hard to walk away from this but when the time is right, you'll know it. Well, I think the time is right." He took another sip from his glass and continued. "It's been 16 months since I left USPW and the independents haven't been as keen for my services as perhaps some may have thought. Of course, thanks to the COTT and you giving me a spot here, I've now had a few dates with IPW and PSW but besides that, there hasn't been a whole lot going on and that's fine. If anything that's a sign that it's time to step away from the ring."</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

There was a lingering pause as we both let what was just said settle in the room. When Chris requested this meeting I kind of expected this was what was going to happen but it's always a slight surprise when somebody makes the declaration of retirement. It's an incredibly difficult thing to walk away from so you almost have to be impressed when someone is bold enough to say they're done from the ring.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"Well I can't say I'm surprised, kid. You've had a hell of a run." I meant that sincerely. He's had his fair share of championship reigns and is a legend in the eyes of DAVE & USPW fans. "So, how long are you giving us before we kick you out?"</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"Two months" came the response. "That'd mean that my last show would be The Battle Of The Mid Atlantic. It's a good show to bow out at and we can build towards a good match and then call it a career". He had clearly given this some thought and I respected that.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"Have you had any ideas about what you're gonna do afterwards? We could certainly still use you here. "Honestly? I just wanted to get the end of the run and then see where we stand. I've no hard and fast plans. Let the chips fall where they may, right?" He had an aloofness and calmness to him that very few people ever have in this situation even when they've given it plenty of thought.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

I wouldn't blame you if you did."</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

He rose from his seat, downed the remainder of what was in his glass and ran his hands through his damp, fuzzy hair.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

"Sam, you gave me my first gig since USPW gave me the heave-ho. I've had a couple of decent matches here. You've got a fine and talented roster and you've just brought back Findlay to rapturous applause. You've had a good thing going here for ten years and it's only getting better. Give me Findlay at The Battle Of The Mid Atlantic and we'll call time." He appeared very upbeat, sincere and jovial in his nature. Chris was as trustworthy and reliable a guy as I had met in my time in the business and if this is what he wanted who was I to refuse?</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">

At least with regards to my in-ring career. After that? Who knows? But, yes, I'm sure." His hard, calloused hand grabbed mine and shook firmly before heading towards the door. He grabbed the handle and paused before looking up and catching sight of the plaque that hangs above the door. He chuckled and turned back to face me.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:'Palatino Linotype';">
