Gordon Shearer vs Josh Jacobs

Big, Bland and heading to finals night

Former MAW Talent vs Sandman Winks

I could see him losing to a returning star, but probably not on a B show, so I'll go for a Winks win to keep this one bubbling

Garry The Entertainer vs Nobuyo Hikichi

Japanese Bad-ass to beat guy with monkey puppet

Marvin Lambert & War Piece vs Rock City Stars

Established team over thrown together team

Cheetah Boy vs Dreadnought

I think the timing is about right for Dreadnought to get his first win over a star, especially as Cheetah Boy is on his way down the card

Kid Fantasticvs ???

Almost impossible to call without knowing who ??? is but USPW mainly release old dudes and MAW is the home of youth

Bonus Prediction: Who is the mystery man?: No idea, but let's guess one last hurrah for Jim Force

Sidenote: This is my favourite diary on the forum, no matter how quickly you upload. I'm glad to know you're slowing up instead of stopping, just go at your own pace :)

Bonus Prediction: Who is the mystery man?: The amount of times I’ve seen USPW let Casey Valentine go in saves is ridiculous, so I’m tempted to say it’ll be him...overness might be an issue but I can’t think of too many lower card guys they have. Yeah stuff it let’s go with Casey Valentine.

Also, don't worry about posting less. You've still got a great thing going here and the diary is excellent. Even though if you post less, the audience will still be here.

TopRopeElbow.com: MAW Old School Rules 2021 Card

Mid Atlantic Wrestling revealed the card for their upcoming Old School Rules show, which will see the professional debut of Mr. Lucha IV the apparent youngest star of lucha libra legend Manule Prieto. And of course the massive main event which will see three MAW veterans in the ring with three relative newcomers to crown a new Mid Atlantic Champion in a 30-minute scramble match!

MAW Old School Rules 2021

Fri, Wk 4, May 2021

Opening Match

Six-man Tag Team Match

15-Minute Time Limit

Keith Vegas & The Rock City Stars vs War Piece & The Wolf Pack

I think the babyface trio get a big win here to start the show off.

Tag Team Match

15-Minute Time Limit

The Heartbreak Express vs Two Man Riot

I really like Heartbreak Express and since they are both here again they can start to get that push to really go to the top of the tag division once more.

Singles Match

15-Minute Time Limit

Border Patrol II vs Cheetah Boy

Singles Match

15-Minute Time Limit

Acid II vs Mr. Lucha IV

This is a tough one. Acid II is definitely the bigger star and more polished performer and probably shouldn't lose, but a fourth Mr. Lucha and the ability to get his American career jumpstarted would be awesome.

Tag Team Match

15-Minute Time Limit

DeMarcus & Gray vs The Latino Kings

Main Event

Mid Atlantic Championship Match

30-Minute Six-way Scramble

Bradley Blaze vs Dreadnought vs Josh Jacobs vs Miller Fforde vs Nobuyo Hikichi vs Sterling Whitlock

This is a tough match to call. All of these guys would make a viable champion, but Dreadnought is probably too young and doesn't have the experience you're looking for. Hikichi is a good talent and Jacobs is as well. Fforde and Blaze have both been champion before and Whitlock is coming off a USPW run that gave him national exposure so I would imagine he's your biggest 'name' and putting the title on him makes the most sense.

Perfect start to my predictions, but not so confident in these next ones.

Keith Vegas & Rock City Stars defeat War Piece & The Wolf Pack

The Heartbreak Express defeat Two Man Riot

Cheetah Boy defeats Border Patrol II

Acid II defeats Mr. Lucha IV

DeMarcus & Grey defeat The Latino Kings

Josh Jacobs defeats Miller Fforde, Bradley Blaze, Dreadnought, Sterling Whitlock & Nobuyo Hikichi

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like Whitlock and Blaze have a feud getting set up that I can't see having Whitlock win the belt or Blaze beat Whitlock, Dreadnought is still young and Hikichi's time in the company doesn't make me feel like he'll win. That leave Jacobs and Fforde, and I think Jacobs might just take the BPA story slightly further by getting the title.

The increased sponsor money and better revenue split from WrestleWorld at small has offset the increased worker costs but they worker costs are now monthly what we would spend on a Rip Chord Invitational or Sam Keith Classic.</p><p> </p><p> As of the first week of June I have 31 contracted workers, although the likes of The Stars, Keith Vegas and Nobuyo Hikichi aren't on ongoing deals for one reason or another, and we have 3 Major Stars, which is actually more than with the TCW deal, when there was 2 and Seth Whitehead was one of them.</p><p> </p><p> There are some guys at the top of the card, especially the likes of Devil May Care who are working multiple companies that I don't expect to have come the end of 2021 but replacements will come, as is the Mid Atlantic way</p>

I appreciate the update. In NOM, CWI is still being run on a shoestring and I haven’t been able to get on WrestleWorld because I’m too small but I can’t wait. Are you still doing two shows a month or are you running smaller spot shows in there too?

I've tried to run a couple of non-canon throwaway shows for the sake of building up experience. They're pretty much entirely 3v3 and 4v4 match cards, but they cost twice as much to run as they bring in so while I've run two of them in 2021 idk if they're worth it in the grand scheme of things

Six-man Tag Team Match

15-Minute Time Limit

• Keith Vegas and War Piece were perennial losers joining well-established teams in MAW in the for of The Rock City Stars and The Wolf Pack respectively.

• Vegas and The Stars started off strong, working well as a unit with the support of the crowd behind them.

• Things took a turn when The Wolf Pack used some of their trademark underhanded tactics to isolate Keith Vegas and work him down in their corner.

• Vegas managed to hit a big slingblade (Who knew he could pull off one of those?) on War Piece, and each man made the tag.

• The Stars ran wild on their opponents and when the ring was cleared Rockin’ Ryan Turner nailed Sione Tokoeka with the Six String Shooter.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Keith Vegas and The Rock City Stars defeated War Piece and The Wolf Pack in 14:01 when Rockin' Ryan Turner pinned Sione Tokoeka with a Six String Shooter.

The Rock City Stars grabbed a microphone as The Wolf Pack retreated up the ramp and made it clear that they were staking a claim for a shot at the titles, and would be calling Sam Keith as soon as they had finished celebrating their win all night long, to make the match official for Fan Festival.

• The Heartbreak Express were reuniting for the first time in MAW since Ralph Liotta left in late 2020 to take on the fast rising Two Man Riot, who represented the Baltimore Protection Agency.

• Needham and Liotta looked as if they had never been apart and following on from his excellent performance against Sandman Winks many admired the new edge to Liotta’s work.

• Two Man Riot more than held their own, with their excellent chemistry and slick teamwork turning things in their favour throughout the match.

• Things came to a head when Copperhead was left isolated in the ring, which left him vulnerable and on the receiving end of The Score to end things.

• In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, The Heartbreak Express defeated Two Man Riot in 9:40 when Johnny Needham pinned Copperhead with The Score.

A video played which was recorded earlier in the day by Lisa Bowen, she was standing somewhere with the entire BPA working out in the background. She took off her trademark sunglasses and said “Nate DeMarcus and Tyrone Gray. One of the best teams to ever step into Mid Atlantic Wrestling. But boys, don’t get it twisted, you’re getting by by the skin of your teeth, and when you come up against my boys you’ll crash and burn. Don’t get any funny ideas, if you side with Miller Fforde in his pointless crusade, you’re backing the wrong horse.”

• Following a tough loss to Dreadnought, Cheetah Boy looked to bounce back in this match against CILL’s Border Patrol II.

• Many had high hopes for BP II, however he had never lived up to the skill of his uncle and Cheetah Boy looked very in control throughout the contest.

• BP II looked to be fighting back into the match but found himself on the receiving end of the Flying Cheetah Pounce which brought things to a close.

• In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Cheetah Boy defeated Border Patrol II in 5:39 by pinfall with a Flying Cheetah Pounce.

• In a battle of the legacies Acid II, protégé of Acid took on Mr. Lucha IV, youngest son of Manuel Prieto, the first to wear the Mr. Lucha mask.

• In his first professional bout all could see that Mr. Lucha IV had solid fundamentals, and that unteachable ‘it’ factor that big promotions look for in young talent.

• But, his inexperience and lack of solid in-ring skills saw Acid II comfortably outwrestle him and put him away quickly with the Acid Rain Bomb.

• In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Acid II defeated Mr. Lucha IV in 2:01 by pinfall with an Acid Rain Bomb.

• The FCW Tag Team Champions took a trip to Baltimore to challenge DeMarcus & Gray in an exhibition match that could put either team in good stead to earn a COTT World Tag Team title match.

• Rudy Velasquez and Hector Galindo dominated the early portions of the match with their aggressive style proving more than a match for the slick teamwork of Nate DeMarcus and Tyrone Gray.

• When things did turn around for the hometown team the result of the match never truly looked in doubt and they nailed Velasquez with the Rocket Launcher just after the 10-minute mark.

• In a decent match, DeMarcus & Gray defeated The Latino Kings in 10:29 when Tyrone Gray pinned Rudy Velasquez with a Rocket Launcher.

30-Minute Six-way Scramble

• When this match began Bradley Blaze charged at Sterling Whitlock, Miller Fforde went straight for Josh Jacobs and Dreadnought and Nobuyo Hikichi battled to the outside of the ring.

• Dreadnought was noticeably slower from early on in the match as Hikichi botched a move and injured the big man’s arm which severely limited the power moves he could pull off throughout the match.

• Blaze managed to knock Whitlock out of the ring, only to get rolled up by Josh Jacobs, however when Jacobs celebrated his point Blaze hit the Dallas Drop and pinned him to gain a point for himself as well.

• Realising that Dreadnought’s size meant he was a threat to any one member of the match, Miller Fforde worked with Nobuyo Hikichi to bury the big man under several unused ringside barricades which left him incapacitated for much of the remainder of the match.

• Sterling Whitlock kept himself to the outside of the ring, only entering to break up pin attempts, except for those of Bradley Blaze who challenged Whitlock to enter the ring with him, but “The Rogue Assassin” kept his post on the outside.

• As things drew to a close, Miller Fforde got the upper hand on Blaze and looked to be about to send things to a three-way draw, but Whitlock ran in and nailed Fforde with Whitlock’s end.

• Rather than going for the cover however, he backed off and allowed Blaze to pin Fforde, and while he was hesitant, Blaze made the cover and when the final bell ring Bradley Blaze found himself with the most points, and the Mid Atlantic Championship.

• In a decent match, Bradley Blaze defeated Miller Fforde, Nobuyo Hikichi, Josh Jacobs, Dreadnought and Sterling Whitlock in a Scramble match in 30:00 after scoring the most falls. Bradley Blaze wins the Mid Atlantic Championship title.

• Dreadnought was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

• Dreadnought suffered a sprained wrist after a botch from Nobuyo Hikichi.

A/N: So only three predictions for this one, with nobody thinking I'd go back to the Bradley Blaze well again it seems.

We had DinoKea with a very impressive 5/6 followed by Historian and shawn_waters with 3/6!

I'll leave things short and sweet as we move into June then thanks for reading and don't be afraid to ask any questions.

• The high-flying Devil May Care reignited their short-lived alliance with Kid Fantastic here to team with rookies Mr. Lucha IV and Gordon Shearer in order to take on four members of the Baltimore Protection Agency alongside their own rookie, the enigmatic War Piece.

• The BPA managed to control much of the opening minutes of the match after an attack before the bell on their opponents, and Gordon Shearer found himself on the receiving end of a beating from Josh Jacobs.

• Shearer managed to break free and tag in Kid Fantastic who bounced around the ring like a superball, taking out each member of the opposite team with his smooth array of flips and dives.

• Cheetah Boy came out for this match with his face painted and with a fire that few have seen in him since he lost the Mid Atlantic Championship more than two years ago.

• Sandman Winks was accompanied to the ring by The Historian, the pair shared equally smug expressions going into what many felt would be an easy victory for the rising star.

• Cheetah Boy tried to force a hot start to the match, running at Winks right at the bell but his bellicose approach to the match led to Winks taking the advantage.

• The Sandman ground Cheetah Boy down for what could only have been five minutes but felt at least five times the length.

• While Cheetah Boy crawled for the ropes after finding himself locked in a Boston Crab, The Historian hurled abuse at him from outside the ring. The usually cocky yet controlled pair kept maniacal looks in their eyes as Winks focused his offence on the historically weak knees of Cheetah Boy.

• But, against all odds the veteran scratched and clawed, literally, his way back into the match after raking the champion’s eyes.

• Cheetah Boy looked good heading into the closing stretch of the match, and when The Historian tried to cheap shot him from outside the referee’s field of view, Cheetah Boy managed to dodge and sent Sandman Winks right into his partner’s closed fist.

• Cheetah Boy then headed for the top rope and nailed the Flying Cheetah Pounce to claim what is just the second singles title of his career.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Cheetah Boy defeated Sandman Winks in 11:55 by pinfall with a Flying Cheetah Pounce. Cheetah Boy wins the John Hopkins University Championship title.

• Deadline and Jonah pilgrim, the heavy hitters of the BPA came out to take on DeMarcus & Gray, one of the best teams to come through MAW in recent years.

• This was a standard tag team affair, with Gray absorbing much of the offence early on before he made the tag to Nate DeMarcus who impressed with an array of suplexes against two not-inconsiderable men.

• Gray was tagged in and angling to hit a frog splash before the referee was distracted by Jonah Pilgrim and Lisa Bowen popped up on the apron and pushed Gray off the top.

• Nate DeMarcus tried to save his partner but was cut off by Pilgrim before Deuce Deadline hit a Deadliner on Gray to end things.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd, but sub-par wrestling, Deuce Deadline and Jonah Pilgrim defeated DeMarcus & Gray in 10:07 when Deuce Deadline pinned Tyrone Gray with a Deadliner after Lisa Bowen interfered.

• Former SWF man Brett Biggins made his debut in MAW to take on Dreadnought fresh off his failure to win the Mid Atlantic Championship in a six-way scramble last month.

• Biggins experience allowed him to survive for almost eight minutes, but that is all the veteran managed to do in this match as much of his offence barely phased his opponent, let alone knock him down.

• Eventually Dreadnought hit a series of impressive power moves and finished things off with a Dread Bomb.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Dreadnought defeated Brett Biggins in 7:57 by pinfall with a Dread Bomb.

• Two weeks after gifting Bradley Blaze the Mid Atlantic Championship, “The Rogue Assassin” Sterling Whitlock took on legend of the business Big Cat Brandon James, visiting MAW after an agreement was reached between the company and his employers FCW and NYCW.

• This was expected to be a big test for Whitlock, even with his advanced age Big Cat is no slouch and the match devolved into a straightforward slugfest almost immediately.

• For the first time in a long time, Big Cat got to be the hero in front of a crowd of adoring fans and they cheered for everything the legend did.

• Whitlock focused an assault on his opponent’s ribs with pinpoint precision and the veteran looked winded only ten minutes into the match.

• Whitlock paced himself, and like an animal stalking its prey, “The Rogue Assassin” beat down Big Cat until he was barely able to get to his feet before putting him away with Whitlock’s End.

As soon as the bell rang Bradley Blaze sprinted down the entrance ramp and tackled Whitlock in the middle of the ring. The two went at it for a few moments before Whitlock rolled out of the ring and began to back up the ramp, face still expressionless. Blaze beckoned him back to fight but before anything could transpire a video cut in on the big screen above the entryway.

A figure sat in a darkened room, wearing a plain black suit looked straight at the camera from the other side of a pristine oak desk. His face was shrouded in the dense smoke and murky blackness that filled the room but when he spoke, it was a voice both familiar but hard to place due to the gentle distortion of the sound.

He said “You are probably wondering why we allowed you to win your title back Bradley. Well, it’s simple really, I knew once I had my dear sterling under my employ it would only be a matter of time before I came to claim what is rightfully mine. And I knew there was only one man that deserved to be the first victim of my reign of terror. At night one of the Sam Keith Classic, the main event will be “The Rogue Assassin” versus “The Dallas Cowboy”, and when my dear Sterling wins, I will make myself known and claim my championship match. Tick tock cowboy, your time is coming.”

A/N: Well hey, it's been a while. This was the last show I had written up before my week long break away from this diary became what's now six months. Things just kept coming up and I disappeared off the site completely more or less since last summer. If you enjoyed this show you should thank Historian and Sco xY2Jx because if it wasn't for some eerily closely timed messages from those two then I probably would have sat on this show forever.

I'm not sure if this means I'm coming back or not, but I do hate to leave a story unfinished so hey, maybe slowly but surely I'll get back in the swing of things.

Also big thanks for DOTY nominations :D

• The Past Masters rekindled their uneasy alliance with Dreadnought in order to take on Cheetah Boy and The Heartbreak Express.

• The Past Masters worked well with Dreadnought during this match, their new, more aggressive attitudes proving to mesh well with that of their monstrous companion. Meanwhile their relatively diminutive opponents struggled to find cohesion in the early goings of the match.

• While they fought valiantly, Cheetah Boy found himself on the receiving end of a Dread Bomb after being isolated form his partners resulting in Dreadnought pinning the John Hopkins University champion for the second time in the space of a few months.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Dreadnought and The Past Masters defeated Cheetah Boy and The Heartbreak Express in 7:32 when Dreadnought pinned Cheetah Boy with a Dread Bomb.

As he raised himself up to his knees, Dreadnought slapped him back down to the ground, he could be heard shouting at Cheetah Boy; “You can’t beat me old man, I’m the future!” Dreadnought then dragged Cheetah Boy up to his feet and delivered a devastating Dread Bomb that almost broke through the ring.

• The Rock City Stars relatively poor win/loss record since returning to MAW had many critics, including the defending champions writing off their chances of winning their first ever tag team honours in the company.

• The Stars started off exceptionally well with Ryan Turner aiming to nail a Six-string Shooter on Sione Tokoeka within a few minutes of the opening bell and would have ended the match there if Sean Noggin had failed to pull his partner out of the way.

• The Stars brought the fight to The Wolf Pack until Sean noggin raked the eyes of Stan Manna and took control of the match.

• Manna managed to fight back into the match and tag in Ryan Turner who hit some big moves on the champions, nailing a double northern lights suplex which brought the Baltimore crowd to their feet.

• Unfortunately for the challengers in a moment of quiet genius Sione Tokoeka “accidentally” bumped into the referee which created a moment’s opening for Sean Noggin to hit a low blow on Turner and roll him up for a title defence.

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The Wolf Pack defeated The Rock City Stars in 14:54 when Sean Noggin pinned Rockin' Ryan Turner by using underhanded tactics. The Wolf Pack make defence number three of the Mid Atlantic Tag Team titles.

Sam Keith Classic XI MAW Entrants

DeMarcus & Gray

jai7S2E.jpgfI3iMjC.jpg

The winners of the 2016 Sam Keith Classic come into this year’s tournament fresh off of forming an alliance with crowd favourite Miller Fforde. The former Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions are 4-2 as a team this year and found themselves on a four-match winning streak before falling due to interference from Lisa Bowen. The pair have been in good form since the beginning of 2020 and will be looking to launch themselves back into the title picture with a second tournament victory.

Two Man Riot

O6W2kJW.jpgo5swv69.jpg

The representatives of the Baltimore Protection Agency currently sit at an unimpressive 2-5 record in 2021 and will be looking to turn their year around with a good showing in this year’s SKC. The pair have shown steady improvement over the course of the year however they do find themselves sitting comfortably as outside bets to win the tournament this year.

Devil May Care

hgbDUGV.jpgE8rmT00.jpg

One of the biggest talking points coming out of last year’s tournament was the Herculean efforts of Simon Ice following his partner’s injury in their first-round match. Ice went on to the final, only falling to The Wolf Pack after a combination of tiredness and numerical disadvantage got the best of him. The pair find themselves with a very respectable 4-1 this year and without the bad luck of injury last year it is possible that they would have won last year’s tournament. Rumour has it that the team’s work in PSW is attracting early interest from some of the biggest companies in wrestling today which may result in a cooling off period for the high-flying duo.

The Past Masters

gYPF5yC.jpgh3rOlS4.jpg

The Past Masters team of Sandman Winks and The Historian have a record similar to that of DMC and DeMarcus & Gray, with a 3-1-1. The duo have spent much of the year away from the tag division as former John Hopkins University Champion Sandman Winks defended his championship throughout the year. The duo’s new more sadistic approach may help them beyond the semi-finals, where last year their overconfidence became a stumbling block.

Gordon Shearer & Mr. Lucha IV

eZoEd1I.jpgVozViv2.jpg

This young duo has only come together very recently and have entered this tournament as a kind of trial-by-fire. Shearer would have likely planned to enter with former Lionhearts partner Kyle Diamond before he was called back to TCW after the breakdown in relations between the company and MAW. Given that Lionhearts were yet to pick up their first win as a team, Shearer may have more confidence with the newest man in the Mr. Lucha lineage.

The Heartbreak Express

kcT3xRv.jpgAAnBpVr.jpg

Following Ralph Liotta’s departure from MAW in 2020, Johnny Needham floundered as a singles star. Losing Lisa Bowen and every match he took part in, Needham was a man in need of change. The return of Liotta seems to have reinvigorated Needham and the pair have a win and a loss since their reunion earlier this year. The former two-time Mid Atlantic tag team champions will be looking to win their first Sam Keith Classic and go on to become one of the few teams who win a third set of tag titles in the company.

The Rock City Stars

LhONXaU.jpg39uy7jk.jpg

The most decorated team to enter this year’s tournament as representatives of MAW are also one of the teams to have never one gold in the company. Rockin’ Ryan Turner and Stan Manna are five-time tag team champions and find themselves with a 4-1-2 record in MAW in 2021. Fresh of the back of a tag team championship match loss to The Wolf Pack, the two veterans will be looking to bounce back with a strong showing and have good odds of bagging their first Sam Keith Classic in what many are dubbing a last hurrah for the duo in the company.

Brett Biggins & Perry Longstaff

wA2e1ks.jpgbz3MM1F.jpg

Former SWF man Brett Biggins finds himself as a permanent member of the MAW roster after impressing Sam Keith with his ability to guide younger wrestlers through a match. He will be teaming with Perry Longstaff as part of the only inter-promotional team in this year’s tournament. Longstaff’s Minnesota Awesome teammate Clark Smallbone left IPW earlier this year and was requested not to be entered into this year’s tournament now that he is no longer a member of a COTT company roster. While the pair lack experience teaming with each other, their individual tag team mastery could well bring them success in the tournament.

Sam Keith Classic XI Non-MAW Entrants

Evil Intent [OLLIE]

RuhEqT9.jpg6oi96f6.jpg

The current COTT World Tag Team champions will fancy their chances in this year’s tournament as they have lost only 3 matches across several promotions and independent shows since January. This is accompanied by their unprecedented 16 successful title defences across the territories and recent trios success in OLLIE. While the duo have never won a title outside of their native Mexico, their experience travelling across the United States, Canada and Mexico will surely give them an advantage against the more inexperienced teams in the competition.

Stevie Grayson & Greg Black [indie]

CZxpd0D.jpgdPQyD1D.jpg

These two Canadian veterans have gone their whole careers without sharing a ring, and with Black’s release from USPW last year following a lengthy injury, this may be their last chance to do it. Ring rust will be this duo’s biggest worrying heading into the tournament as Black has not wrestled a single match since his release from USPW and Grayson has only worked three matches at small-time shows since the beginning of last year. With both of these men’s best days likely in the rear view, could they pull of an upset and score a victory in the biggest tag team tournament in independent wrestling?

Quick City Kingpins [ACPW]

FWpPlDj.jpgmQozbXr.jpg

While neither Murray Firth nor Spencer Edmund hail from Quick City, Missouri the pair have shown no signs of slowing down on their assent through the tag team ranks of ACPW. The puroresu stylings of Murray Firth have been an excellent balancing act to Edmund’s high flying antics and while the pair may be against the odds to win this year’s tournaments, few would deny their potential and even fewer would doubt that they will be back to win the big one again in the years to come.

Team Rex [CILL]

FwXdVho.jpgwMmV6gf.jpg

Current CILL Tag Team champions Team Rex have made for an unlikely success story. The risk taken with Amazing Firefly turning to the dark side has seemingly paid dividends and his popularity seemingly knows no bounds. Like with other young starlets entering this years tournament, his eventual call form EILL will surely dampen expectations of he and partner Hysteria winning this year’s competition, however the in-ring standard will be undoubtedly higher with their inclusion.

Terror Rising [NYCW]

kAVD4gH.jpgigseVaG.jpg

When older fans and industry veterans discuss a desire to go back to “the good ole days” when wrestler’s were real men – and they do generally mean exclusively men – it’s unlikely they ever anticipated a team as antiquated as Terror Rising. Devastating Don and Richie Riggins have been described as “the platonic ideal of 1980s American wrestling” and while that may be the case the pair’s lack of success in the ring likely speaks for itself. Don was eliminated from this year’s Rip Chord invitational after lass than 6 minutes and few would be surprised to see the same happen again in this tournament.

The Creatures [CZCW]

BIdrVRu.jpgzFb7F3P.jpg

The Creatures are a team who have worked with and against each other several times throughout the year, with neither man finding massive success in 2021. A lack of experience, a poor run of form and a lack of clearly defined character may well leave these two lagging behind, both in the ring and with the fans during this tournament.

Wild and Wicked [FCW]

Two-thirds of The Storm Riders are entering this year’s Sam Keith Classic under the name of Wild and Wicked. Cobra is another COTT man who has competed before in MAW, having taken part in the 2020 iteration of the Rip Chord Invitational. Despite losing in the first round on that occasion both he and his partner Jesus Chavez have only lost a single match since January 2020. If they manage to carry this momentum to Baltimore there is on team with a better win/loss record in the field to stop them.

Allen Smalls & Bowden Snoop [indie]

M2I18YM.jpg9thBKJg.jpg

The last and perhaps definitive least entrants to the tournament is the second Independent outfit invited to MAW in the for of Allen Smalls and Bowden Snoop. Smalls is a graduate of the Supreme University and played for the New Mexico Lobos at college level and went on to be drafted into the NFL although didn’t achieve much in the way of championships. While many feel that Smalls was taken into the Supreme University based on his name value alone, his partner Bowden Snoop ground his way through the House of Stone under the relatively Spartan tutelage of Dan Stone Jr. These men come from very different wrestling backgrounds, and collectively have wrestled one professional match, but their particular combination of skills may be all that is needed for them to cause an upset and walk away with the Sam Keith Classic trophy.
