Thursday, Week 2 June 2006 WCW Backstage News - From www.wcwwrestlingnews.com Is there trouble in paradise??? Blatently confirming that Hulk Hogans son, Nick is on the WCW development program is the news coming from Deep South Wrestling that Rene Dupree & Nick Hogan had a bust up recently. Aparently the 2 youngsters had to be seperated by tag team Robbie & Rory McCalistair, The Highlanders. WCW is very keen on bringing in indie talent, The Messiah. He is a young high flyer who can wrestle hardcore and in a variety of styles. WCW President Eric Bischoff is also rumoured to have approached 22year old TNA worker Chris Sabin about coming into WCW to work a program with Dean Malenko. It looks like HBK Shawn Michaels has pulled some stroke with Titan Towers as Matt Bentley, HBKs cousin, is poised to sign with WCWs Cruiserweight Division. Speaking of cruiserweights, CIMA has signed with the division, expect him to face Dean Malenko in the coming weeks. Rumours are that Johnny aka Johnny Jeter from the Spirit Squad is set to become a breakout star...with WCW. Vince & Shane McMahon have recently got round a table and discussed the idea, and it looks good for Johnny.

Monday, Week 3 June 06 WCW Fans Opinions – From PWTORCH.COM First Batch of WCW Reax & Comments from the people who matter….the fans. “I am wondering what Malenkos twist will be. I hope Malenko wins the title and ends up holding it for a couple months before dropping it to a newer guy who either A)wasnt in the old WCW or B)was very young in the old WCW. As for Flair being the champ. He isnt what he used to be and hopefully he will drop the title soon.” – juggaloninjalee “Did anyone notice Mark Copani’s entrance theme music is a re-make of Carly Simons, “You’re So Vain?” – Mike Hunt “Harry Smith winning the World Television Championship could be the making of the boy, feuding with a seasoned pro like Bam Bam Bigelow is only gonna raise his stock!!” – Chris Pea**** “Shane O’Mac & Eric Bischoff in a boxing match??! – Was I the only who was turned on by that?!” – Robbie Spencer “IF, and this is a big IF, Mark Copani carries on the way he’s going, then the “Marvellous” one could easily become WCWs Front Man, replacing Sting, Hogan, Goldberg, all of em…..lets just hope he isn’t ruined.” – Mr.X “The Dupree Brothers were dire.” – Shirley Bassina “Mike Awesome & Perry Saturn could be the modern crossover of the Impact Players & The Eliminators. They look good as a team. Get them matching trunks and this dysfunctional team could re-ignited the Tag Team World.” – Cliff Bastin “The Malenko angle is looking good. If rumours that Jap star CIMA is in WCW, then we could be back to the cruiserweight action of the early ninties!!!” – Michaela Strachan

OOC – Sorry for the lack of details, ie full show reports etc, but I only have my internet access at work, so my WCW action I cant report very easy. If you wanna know anything, please ask. WCW Update June to September Report by Mia Minge. June 2006. In June we saw WCW CEO Shane McMahon beef up the WCW Roster, many under card performers joined the company, although most were sent down to either WWE/WCW Development Territorys OVW or DSW. July 2006 July saw WCW see Mark Copani step up as World Heavyweight Champion. He vowed to defend the title anywhere, anyplace, any country against anyone. This seemed to push his feud with Ric Flair & The Horsemen to the back burner, Although The Horsemen tried to take out Copani’s buddy CM Punk on many occasions. Johnny Jeter put together a 9 win streak as World TV Champion, beating Harry Smith in his wake. Smith has gone on to be WCWs young gun against the Horsemen since. August 2006 In August WCW shocked the world when as part of Copani’s World Title reign, Nitro broadcast from Japan, and Jeff Jarrett made his WCW debut as part of the Horsemen (Much to Eric Bischoffs delight, but that’s for another time) by attacking Copani. Copani went onto feud with Jarrett at Bash at The Beach, defeating him to take his World Title reign to 11 victories. The next night on Nitro, also held in Japan, Copani had a big surprise when taking on Jarretts buddy Ric Flair (another of Copanis arch enemies), when the lights went out and WCW Legend STING made his first appearance in the WWE owned WCW! He came from the rafters to great cheers, he looked as if he was to save Copani from a Horsemen beatdown, but he then struck Copani down to make a HUGE HEEL TURN on his return to WCW!! Eric Bischoff was a man behind The Horsemen & Stings seeming alliance against Copani & CM Punk & Harry Smith, then Shane O Mac made his return to Nitro the following week when he shocked the world further by booking a Horsemen vs Team Copani match for later tonight. It was set for The Horsemen (Ric Flair, Jeff Jarrett, Dean Malenko, Lance Storm & Johnny Devine) vs Mark Copani, CM Punk, Harry Smith & two mystery men. The announcement of the two mystery men was huge as first came out Diamond Dallas Page, and that bombshell was only bettered by GOLDBERGs return to WCW. The Goldberg music hit to the huge eruption of the crowd. Needless to say, Team Copani came out victors that night…..But Sting was still watching Copani. September 2006 This month I hope to have more detailed reports, when Sting takes on Mark Copani for the World Heavyweight Title. It is gonna be an hellacious match between those two!! Also Dean Malenko kept up his challenge by taking his Cruiserweight title defenses to 13. Also this month……….. ………WCW Announced that Spike TV will soon be carrying WCW VENOM, which will debut on Saturday Nights (filmed on a Wednesday). The half hour show “Is set to be a short, sharp bite of WCWs finest action”Pictures of the Venom Logo are set to be posted below.

OOC – This is designed to get you all bang upto speed with all the happenings in WCW, I will carry on with FULL reports when I play the game from now on. Please comment on this. WCW – Here to Stay? September 2006, a column for www.obsessedwithwrestling.com So we have seen WCW return to our screens in ablaze of glory…under the WWE banner. Many reports are suggesting that this “simple brand extension” of the WWE is now being solely run by Shane McMahon, albeit from Titan Towers still. If this is true, imagine the moves Shane could make to insure WCWs future, and also push it into boundaries its never been in before?! Rumours that Shane is even trying to pinch some of his daddys wrestling talent is exciting to say the least. Could the competition between father & son in the wrestling world, conjure up the best action we’ve ever seen??? (ending of WWE/WCW working agreement in game world) In “Marvellous” Mark Copani he has a figure head for WCW who already had some interest in his stock since his WWE Hassan days. Now he is a true born company worker, who is really one of the worlds last remaining old school faces. He has a tremendous fan base, that are becoming loyal to his WCW. He is the company’s top face, holding the US Title, then dropping it to Lance Storm of The Horsemen. Remember he’s only 24, He has held the Worlds Heavyweight Title since August after beating arch enemy Ric Flair in a terrific 5star match. Dare I say it, he is the companies new Sting……… Sting U-turned on his vow of not working for Vince McMahon ever, by joining the WWE owned WCW……is this more proof that Shane McMahon is in full charge. But since his return, he has not looked a happy Stinger. He dropped into the ring, and he looked like he would help Mark Copani from a vicious 5 on 1 Horsemen attack, but he then clobbered Copani to the crowds disgust. The fans & The Stinger were friends no more. It was the heel turn heard around the world…..he also laid out Ric Flair & half of his henchmen (before the others bailed) to prove he wasn’t siding with Flair, but more attacking Copani. Is the Stinger showing his first signs of jealousy against WCW & Shane McMahon’s blue eyed boy………….this will come to head at the inaugural PPV in just under 2 weeks time at WCW In Your House…………… …..if WCW President Eric Bischoff has anything to do with it. WCW Owner/CEO Shane McMahon may have been the one to get Sting to WCW, but maybe Sting had his heart set on coming back to WCW all along after his destroying of Mark Copani. Eric Bischoff has certainly not hid his enjoyment of Stings demolishing of Copani. We all know what happened the last time Shane O Mac & Bischoff locked heads….it ended in a one off Boxing Match where Shane destroyed Bischoff. Will Eric continue to back Sting & Shane continue to back World Champion Copani?? If so we know where that ones going!! But the wild cards in this one are the Horsemen…….. The Horsemen are really taking things to another level in WCW. US Champion Lance Storm is really the stand out in WCW this time around, as he was before. He has been occupied with fan favourite CM Punk, the returning Goldberg & Jeff Hardy……..but luckily he has a man who made a shocking return to WCW under a mask for 2 weeks as the “Masked Jet”….then he pulled his mask off during an assault on Goldberg & Punk & Hardy to reveal himself as Jeff Jarrett!! The former TNA head man was back in WCW!! When you add Ric Flair, Jeff Jarrett, Lance Storm, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Johnny Devine & Gail Kim together, you get a world class group of athletes. Goldberg, Punk & Hardy were out numbered until former TV champion Harry Smith stepped up to the plate to even the odds. Other the past weeks we saw him even the odds, until Jarrett arrived, then Smith brought out WCW legend DDP!! Now we were even!!! Especially when……….. ………Dean Malenko was busy pursuing his 1001 victorys as Cruiserweight champion!! He stands at 14…..i mean how long can he go?! He’s seen off such superstars such as CIMA, Jack Evans, Teddy Hart, Juvi, Shannon Moore, Billy Kidman, Mikey Batts amongst others. Dean has had former TNA breakout star Johnny Devine as a partner on many occasions, and as you’d expect from Horsemen……. We mentioned CM Punk earlier, on the first ever WCW Venom he announced to the world that Shane McMahon had sanctioned a WCW Pure Title to be defended on Venom each week. Punk was scheduled in the first match, and his opponent was the debuting Bryan Danielson. The two fought to a superb 30minute draw, which took up the whole of WCW Venom on its debut….but it was a huge, huge, HUGE hit!!!! The next week we saw the rematch, which Punk won in another gripping match only on Venom……expect some huge Pure Title matches in the coming weeks……remember its “Endorsed by Shane O Mac!” We briefly touched on the scramble around behind Sting & Copani. I mean imagine a match involving all of em…..Goldberg, Flair, Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, Jarrett, DDP, Smith!!! That Harry Smith is really gonna be a HUGE star for WCW, I see a big match ten years down the line between him & Mark Copani. There’s also rumours that WCW is gonna shake up the Main Event scene further with another top name! You get a good feeling though, as this time round, the product that’s being pushed out is full of quality workers!!!! Who could it be??? One man we have to mention here is Johnny “The Body” Jeter. He’s been a true break out star since Shane grabbed him from RAW. His gimmick is basically the same as he was in the Spirit Squad…but this time he talks….hes cool, hes ****y, hes so cheesy it hurts…so its good!!! He already beat Harry Smith in a great feud for The TV Title of WCW, and held it for 2months making 9 defenses. He is definitely a cert for stardom in the future. Since Shane McMahon has brought Paul Bearer back to the wrestling world, Bearer hasn’t hung around…..Freakin Deacon was put under “guidance” by Bearer, and he is known as “The Demon Deville”. It sounds too gimmicky, but this man is good. He’s big, strong & powerful who can actually wrestle. He’s undefeated in just over a month (5wins) and is making The Undertaker look like a fairy. The Demon has bloodied 3 men in one go (Kid Kash, Mikey Batts & Billy Kidman) and almost destroyed DDP last week on Nitro. He is awesome…..Bearer has also brought in Mordecai as The Demon Deville’s “Guidance Angel”…and Mordecai can work too. His version of the Razors Edge looks as good as anything ive seen for a while. They make for an unstoppable team. The Tag Division in WCW is really picking up pace. Current Champions Sean O’Haire & Mark Jindrak just look superb, 12defenses and they look untouchable….hence “The Untouchables” tag team name! Since returning to WCW they look better than ever, and not even the flurry of good teams WCW has to offer can beat them. We’ve seen a spate of 3 way tag matches with various challengers, but the best challengers WCW has are The Naturals, with manager Melina Perez. These kids all look hungry for WCW gold and are biting at The Untouchables heels!!! When you add into the mix, “The New Foundation” who tag regularly (Harry Smith & Teddy Hart) and Kidman & Batts, Flair & Jarrett….the division is becoming very, very good. Is WCW here to stay? What do you think?!

Yep, its my way of playing out certain angles, then have the two main superstars feuding, have a one on one at the PPV. Its working so far a treat, gone from Cult status to Global in a short time, maybe about to overtake WWE. & A* shows cant be a bad thing???!

Shane McMahon was the man who was placed in sole charge of the company back in June 06, and he has taken WCW back to the dizzy heights that the WWE currently enjoys. But still at the end of the day WCW is simply an extension of the WWE Brand, much like ECW is now. But these first 6months of WCWs return have been a huge positive for the wrestling world. A WWE-WCW competition is alive and kicking where superstars can jump back and forth at any time within the WWE-WCW-ECW. WCW is currently promoting as a "Cutting Edge Promotion" as opposed to WWEs "Sports Entertainment" world & ECWs "Hardcore" lifestyle. WCW is owned by Shane McMahon and is run from Titan Towers, the same hq used by the WWE. The WCW President Eric Bischoff is in main control of the day to day duties of WCW, and the McMahon family have put lots of trust into Eric being able to return WCW to its glory days....and although Eric has done this so far, he has bent the rules of whats "right" many a time or two (as we will detail more). The Booking team is run by trusted WWE/WCW employees, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Shane McMahon &ME! (lol) The WCW Road Agents who have tamed many a superstar in this past months include Dave Finlay, Shane McMahon, Arn Anderson & Gene Okerland. The WCW Talent Roster is split into two Brands. The Nitro Brand is the brand of WCW which everybody knows & loves. They have 2 hrs on a Tuesday Night on Spike TV to showcase their talents. The Venom Brand is a new concept. Pure Wrestling. The Venom Brand has only a 30minute slot to showcase pure wrestling at its finest. Venom originally debuted as Nitro's B Show, but in November, the concept for a seperate brand came reality. Sensationally the Top 11 superstars in the list came from WCW! Although Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock (who had a short spell in ECW then WWE) came from WWE TV. This list proves that the hard work WCW has done has worked. The biggest leap in this list is of Chase Stevens & Harry Smith, this goes to show just how WCW has a safe future ahead. Wrestler of the Year - Mark Copani Young Wrestler of the Year - Harry Smith Veteran Wrestler of the Year - Ric Flair Female Wrestler of the Year - Lisa Varon Match of the Year - World Heavyweight Title Match - Ric Flair (c) vs Mark Copani @ WCW One Night Stand. This match was head and shoulders above the other contenders and it saw Mark Copani win his first World Title, much to the fans happiness! WCW Highlights of the Year There were 2 huge points for WCW last year. The immergence of "Marvellous" Mark Copani from the shadows of wrestling to WCWs top BabyFace champion is one of a remarkable tale. He defeated Ric Flair & His Horsemen, and managed to eventually overturn the Horsemen for good, forcing the Legendary Stable to never re-appear in WCW. The other Hugh Story for WCW in 2006 was the return of a man who said he wud never appear for a McMahon Corporation, Sting! He returned to the fans delight in August, but he immediately turned his back on the fans and went straight for Copani and his World Title. He eventually couldnt get the World Title out of Copani's grasp but the fire still burns. The Jumps. In 2006 we saw Shawn Michaels sensationally "Leave" WWE and jump ship to WCW for a new challenge. We saw him come to Mark Copani's aid during the Bash at The Beach, where Sting, Ric Flair & Jeff Jarrett were beating him down. HBK debuted and evened the scores! He has gone on to be US Champion since. A Feud with Mark Copani in 2007 would sore ticket sales through the roof, im sure!!!! Chris Benoit also returned home to WCW in 2006, and it was all down to Eric Bischoff. After Benoit re-appeared on Nitro, Bischoff had set up his "Masterplan" faction. Benoit, Johnny Jeter & The Untouchables are taking the action to another level. Benoit has recently defeated HBK Shawn Michaels to become US Champion. The young & hungry superstars are what is driving fans to tune into WCW programming each and every week. Superstars like Harry Smith, Johnny Jeter, The Naturals, CM Punk, Samoa Joe & Mark Copani are becoming as much household names as Hulk Hogan, The Rock and co. Who knows where they will be this time next year?! Prestige is a word that seems to be making a welcome return to WCW. The Title belts are returning with style to WCW with the prestige surrounding them. Mark Copani has defended his title in 6 different countries since he won the title. The same can be said for our other World Champions. The Brand Split. Nitro is Nitro and always will be....Top Action, Top Names. But WCW Venom is something else. Pure Wrestling. Hard Hitting, Fast Paced, Wrestling at its finest. Originally the gimmick of smaller promotion Ring of Honor, Pure Wrestling has hit the big time on the Venom brand. In September 2006, CM Punk laid down a new championship in WCW which was known as the World Pure Title, which we see Samoa Joe holding now. That was the foundation. Now on Venom we can see the best in Pure Wrestlers mixing it up, each and every week. With embassaders for Nitro including Shawn Michaels, Mark Copani & Sting.....and...embassaders for Venom being Samoa Joe, CM Punk & The Impact Players, WCW has never looked more impressive. Shane McMahon, thank you......!
