WCW 1998: Empire Falls

Recommended Posts

I am/was a big time WCW fan so I'll definitely be following this!

WCW Television Championship

Steve “Mongo” McMichael © vs. Alex Wright

Alex is so much more talented, but Mongo was the bigger star. I'd love for Alex to win it though so I'm going with him

Non-Title Match

Harlem Heat w/Jacqueline Moore vs. Sick Boy & Lodi w/The Flock

Love Harlem Heat. I don't see them losing here even if it is non-title

The Giant vs. Hugh Morrus

Good solid win for the Giant here

Bill Goldberg vs. Lord Steven Regal

Will Lord Steven prove to be challenging for Goldberg to deal with as he was in real life? I like both guys but unless you're doing something totally different with Goldberg he should go over here

Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall

I'm guessing either a DQ finish here for a Luger win or a tainted win for Hall. Going with the DQ win for Luger

Your boy is not dropping it here.

Non-Title Match

Harlem Heat w/Jacqueline Moore vs. Sick Boy & Lodi w/The Flock

Booker T & Stevie Ray are on a different level playa, now can you believe dat?

The Giant vs. Hugh Morrus

Death by Chokeslam.

Bill Goldberg vs. Lord Steven Regal

I expect this to be a good match but Goldberg isn't losing yet.

Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall

I just figure that Hall is challenging Sting so could do with not losing? I expect the nWo to play a part in just getting Hall over the line.

WCW Monday Nitro

Monday, Week 2, February 1998

The Assembly Hall; Bloomington, IN

<div style="padding: 15px; border: 1px solid #000000; margin:5px;background: #F1F1F1; max-width:100%;box-shadow: 0 1px 3px ";">

With fireworks exploding and "Mean Streets" blaring, Tony Schiavone welcomes the audience to the show, just thirteen nights away from SuperBrawl VIII! He, "Brain," and Mike Tenay preview tonight's episode, including a rematch between
Lord Steven Regal
and
Bill Goldberg
, the main event between
"The Total Package" Lex Luger
and
Scott Hall
, and a clash between
Scott "Flash" Norton
and
Bret Hart
!

Speaking of the devil, the music of "The Hitman" plays from the PA system as he and
Davey Boy Smith
hit the ring sans Jim Neidhart following the nWo assaults last Monday Night. Hart grabs a microphone and he is all business. He says he's out here to issue a challenge to that thug "Hollywood" Hogan after being jumped week after week. He says that his brother-in-law is tough as nails and he'll be back in this ring sooner rather than later, but Bret wants to end this in thirteen nights.

"You're afraid, aren't you, Hogan? You know that I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be, and you don't want your façade to be broken. You and I both know that I'm a better wrestler than you, and that's why you've got your tail between your legs – at SuperBrawl, Hogan, me and you, let's do it!"

Steve "Mongo" McMichael ©
vs.
Alex Wright

As has been the case over the past few weeks on Saturday Night, James Vandenberg inexplicably watched Wright from the aisleway, grinning and nodding, Mortis and Wrath by his side. Perhaps for this reason, Wright's head wasn't quite in the game, as he got caught with a huge knee lift and then the Mongo Spike as McMichael picked up the win to retain.

Unlike previous weeks, however, Vandenberg does not turn to the back. The trio walk down to the ring this time, past a confused Mongo as if he wasn't even there. They enter the ring with Wright making his way to his feet, clutching his neck. "What do you want from me?!" Wright yells, as Mortis and Wrath suddenly attack! Tenay yelps as a brutal beatdown ensues. After a Flatliner by Mortis, Vandenberg says to pick him up. Wrath tosses the limp carcass of Wright over his shoulder as they walk to the backstage area. "What in the world is going on?!" asks Schiavone, to no answer.

After a commercial,
Rick Steiner
stomps out to no music. He grabs a microphone as Heenan mutters "oh boy."

"SCOTTTAAY! WHERE ARE YOU, BROTHER?! WEEK AFTER WEEK YOU WON'T COME OUT AND FIGHT ME, LET'S DO IT NOW!"

With Steiner in the ring ranting and rambling in a barely coherent manner, the nWo music hits. After a brief pause, we don't get Scott Steiner, but we get
Buff Bagwell
alongside
Vincent
and
Scott Norton
. Buff says Scott's busy because he's got bigger things going on like bringing that US Title to the new World order. Rick says that he doesn't give a crap what nWo cronies he has to beat to get to Scott – he says he'll kick Buff's ass RIGHT HERE TONIGHT! Buff balks and waves his arms no, but the crowd is fired up! Steiner says if Buff doesn't want to see him in the ring, he'll come to him! Rick rolls out of the ring, grabs a steel chair, and walks up the aisle way toward the nWo trio, who back away! Vincent goes for a sneak attack, but gets a chair to the gut and the back! Steiner swings wildly as Norton and Bagwell head for the hills – Steiner continues to whale on Vincent, who convulses with each strike, before Rick is pulled away by officials!

vs.
Sick Boy & Lodi w/The Flock

Despite the imposing Flock just inside the steel guard rail, the Tag Team Champions showed exactly why they are a force to be reckoned with. During this match, Tony passed along the announcement that Buff Bagwell would go one-on-one with Rick Steiner later on tonight! Shortly thereafter, Stevie Ray finished off Sick Boy with a huge 110th Street Slam.

In the back,
"Mean" Gene Okerlund
is standing by with the United States Champion,
Diamond Dallas Page
. Before the interview starts, however,
Kimberly Page
enters the frame and whispers to Dallas, who follows her offscreen. Gene, confused, follows along with the camera as they head to Kimberly's locker room.

Resting in Kimberly's locker is an obnoxiously large bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates in the shape of a heart. As she hands Page the card that came with the gift – he reads the signature aloud - "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner (what the heck is "Big Poppa Pump?!" shouts Tenay)! This enrages DDP, who rips apart the box of chocolates and tosses the flowers across the room. He grabs Gene's microphone and stares directly into the camera:

"YOU'RE DEAD AT SUPERBRAWL, STEINER. ENOUGH. IT'S OVER! YOU'RE GONNA FEEL…THE…BANG!"

Shortly thereafter, we get a mock interview backstage with
Eric Bischoff
on the mic in a tuxedo. He does a crude Gene Okerlund impression and introduces his guests,
Curt Hennig
and
Rick Rude
. When asked about Lex Luger interfering in his match last week and costing him the US Title, Hennig looks at Bischoff rather unenthused. Curt jumps right to SuperBrawl, and he's got a pretty short message for "The Total Package." He says that in thirteen nights, he's going to do what the new World order has failed to do for over a year and a half—he glares at Eric after saying this—and he's going to finish what he started two weeks ago when he finally, mercifully ends the career of Lex Luger.

The Giant
vs.
Hugh Morrus

The audience basically got what it expected here, and Morrus made The Giant look like a million bucks. He tried for the No Laughing Matter very early, but The Giant was already up on his feet and caught him! Giant wrapped his massive hand around the neck of Morrus and finished him off with a massive Chokeslam. He covered with one hand for the academic three count.

Tenay walks down to the ring for an interview with The Giant, who has stated he would call out Kevin Nash here tonight. He does so, but just like Scott Steiner and "Hollywood" Hogan earlier tonight, Nash does not appear. Instead, we get
Eric Bischoff
again, and Eric grins and claps on his way down to the ring. He tells Giant that he's been impressive as of late and Kevin can't wait to take him on at SuperBrawl. But Kevin couldn't be here tonight as he had other matters to attend to…or The Giant isn't worth his time. Giant laughs as Bischoff continues to excoriate him. Out of nowhere, a massive man with a clearly fake mustache and thin, wiry glasses climbs over the railing behind The Giant and slides in the ring – it's
Kevin Nash
! Nash nails Giant in the back of the head with an elbow and starts the assault! He slowly pulls off the mustache and glasses for a mock reveal as he laughs and continues to put a beatdown on the stunned Giant. Bischoff gets a few kicks in as well, but as Nash sets Giant up for the Jackknife,
Sting
rappels down from the rafters, bat in hand! Before he even hits the ring, Nash and Bischoff have already gotten out of Dodge, with Sting helping The Giant to his feet.

Next,
Rey Mysterio Jr.
is in the back with
"Mean" Gene Okerlund
talking about Chris Jericho. Mysterio says that he's been successful as of late and is looking for a shot at the Cruiserweight Title. He says there's a lot of similarities between Jericho and the Cruiserweight Champion Eddy Guerrero, namely that their attitudes are a disgrace to lucha wrestling and the WCW Cruiserweight belt. He fully endorses Chavo Guerrero Jr. to defeat his uncle Eddy at SuperBrawl, and says that regardless, once he takes care of "Lionheart" – he's up next!

As Steiner and the nWo clear ringside,
The Flock
hop over the railing and into the ring. Raven sits in the corner as Kidman fetches him a mic. Before he can really get started, though, he is interrupted by the arrival of
Ric Flair
,
Arn Anderson
,
Dean Malenko
, and
Steve McMichael
! Mongo grabs Flair a microphone as The Flock stand between the leaders of the respective factions, Benoit in the back with Raven. Raven orders his men to stand aside, still seated in the corner. Mongo barks at Raven to stand up when Ric is talking, but Raven pays him no mind. He steps closer and Benoit steps in the way, shoving the Television Champion! Mongo, finger in Benoit's face, tells him he better step back, boy—and when Hammer goes to grab his arm, Mongo fights back, beginning a brawl!

A fracas ensues as Raven observes. The Flock's numbers game is far too much for the Horsemen, who don't even need Raven to swarm Flair, Mongo, Malenko, and the retired Anderson. With the others dispatched, Raven slides under the ropes, where The Flock have brought "The Nature Boy" into the aisleway. He lands right hand after right hand to the skull of Flair, cutting him open. Benoit tosses him into the guard rail, and Raven finishes the brutal, bloody assault with a DDT onto the floor, leaving Flair twitching but otherwise motionless. Garbage flies through the air from the crowd as Raven soaks in the boos and medical officials come to the aid of the legendary Ric Flair.

Bobby Heenan has just one observation: "this Raven is a nut, Tony, we might be seeing the end of the Four Horsemen and even WCW as we know it…"

The following announcement has been paid for…by the new World order…

A classic nWo ad plays with
Scott Steiner
and the #1 contender to the World Title, the World War 3 winner,
Scott Hall
.

Steiner asks if Kimberly liked the gift that she got from "Big Poppa Pump," and he'd be happy to take her away from that white trash slob DDP and show her why he's a genetic freak! He says that once he's got DDP's belt and his girl, he's gonna put his idiot brother Rick down for good!

Hall loves that idea, and another idea he loves is beating the ever living crap out of Sting, taking his big gold belt, and bringing it back where it belongs, to the en…Dubya…oh!

Bill Goldberg
vs.
Lord Steven Regal

Unlike two weeks ago, when Regal tried to escape with a disqualification (this time pulling out brass knuckles he hid in the turnbuckle), Goldberg saw it coming and ducked into a Spear! He lifted him up for the Jackhammer in about a minute, completely dominating the blue blood.

At the top of the aisle,

When asked about what makes him think he's better than his uncle Eddy, Chavo explains that while Eddy thinks he's the brains of the Guerrero family, Chavito is the heart, and—

He's pulled away by the arriving
Chris Jericho
, though! Jericho complains that this was supposed to be
his
interview time, a claim that Okerlund, ever the professional, rebukes, scolding "Lionheart." Jericho gives Chavo a bump with his shoulder and Chavo returns the favor with a slap to the face! In the fracas, however, Chavo is clubbed from behind with the Cruiserweight belt by
Eddy Guerrero
! Jericho gets in a couple of stomps as Eddy makes his way to the back, holding up the belt, as quickly as he arrived! Tenay wonders aloud whether this was the plan all along, to which Heenan replies, "from one 'Brain' to another, I can tell you who's winning that match at SuperBrawl, and it ain't the guy face down on the ground right now, Tenay!"

Backstage,
"The Total Package" Lex Luger
is warming up for his main event contest against Scott Hall, when he's approached by not just
Diamond Dallas Page
, but his friend
Sting
! Page's eyes continue to bulge out of his head as he and the World Heavyweight Champion offer to repay Luger by accompanying him to the ring tonight. Page begs Scott Steiner to show his face.

Lex, though he appreciates the offer, tells them that he knows there will be nWo interference. But that isn't what matters. Lex explains that through all of the trials and tribulations, the nWo, WCW, only one thing matters. "And that," Luger says as he taps the big gold belt slung over Sting's shoulder, "is that one thing." Luger admits that he won't get any closer to that belt unless he beats Hall straight up, and he walks off.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart w/Davey Boy Smith
vs.
Scott Norton w/Vincent

As "The Hitman" so often does, he found a way to use Norton's power, speed, and balance against him, with his brother-in-law taking care of the annoyance of Vincent along the outside. After wearing down the big man, he locked in the Sharpshooter for the win.

After the match, his celebration is interrupted by
"Hollywood" Hogan
,
"Macho Man" Randy Savage
, and
Eric Bischoff
. They mock the Bulldog and Bret for the parking lot attack last week and for the injury to Neidhart, and Hart grabs a mic of his own. He tells them it's put up or shut up time – he knows that Hogan will talk, cheap shot him from behind, and do anything it takes not to step into the ring with him man-to-man. So he proposes something different: at SuperBrawl, Bret challenges Hogan and Savage to a tag team match against himself and Davey Boy! After a moment of hesitation, Hogan laughs.

"What makes you think you deserve to
ever
get in the ring against 'Hollywood,' brother?! I'm the biggest star in the history of this business! I put jobbers like you on the map just by saying your name on television! I don't think—"

"YOU'RE ON, 'HITMAN'! OOOOOH YEAHHHH!"

The crowd erupts at Savage, who cuts off Hogan, and Eric's eyes open wide, his jaw slack with shock. Eric and Hogan try to call it off, but Savage is set on it – he has accepted Bret's challenge on behalf of himself and Hogan! The three argue their way to the back as Bret and the Bulldog look on, satisfied.

Lex Luger
vs.
Scott Hall w/Kevin Nash, Curt Hennig, & Rick Rude

Boy, was Luger right about the new World order contingent. With some crafty heavy hitters at ringside, neither Lex nor referee Mickey Jay was able to keep a handle on all the distractions. The Giant and Diamond Dallas Page started to make their way down to the ring about halfway through, but a defiant Luger adamantly motioned for them to get to the back! It was this stubbornness that led to his downfall – when he tried to lift Hall for the Torture Rack, Nash got up on the apron to distract Jay. As he did so, Hennig slid in the other side of the ring and landed a chop block, taking out the knee of "The Total Package" and allowing Hall to recover with a low blow and the Outsider's Edge for the pinfall victory!

After the match, Hennig slides into the ring and starts a beatdown on Luger. Hall and Nash get their potshots in and start to taunt Sting, daring him to come down from the rafters. Having seen enough, Page and Giant eventually come down to the ring anyway, and as soon as the nWo set their sights on the new arrivals,
Sting
rappels down from the ceiling for the second time tonight! A scrum ensues, in the middle of which, The Giant has his hand around the throat of Rick Rude, but he gets a low blow from behind by Kevin Nash for the save! Hall ducks a swing of the baseball bat as he slides under the ropes and grabs Nash's leg, the nWo retreating!

Sting walks over to the recovering Luger and tries to help him up, but Lex pushes his arm away. Despite WCW coming to his aid, Luger is extremely disappointed in his loss as he huddles by himself in the corner. Page, Giant, and Sting throw some encouraging words his way and pat him on the back as he accepts their help and the four raise their hands to a standing ovation to end the show!

Martel got the better of it though, and Luger was warned to stop being obnoxious. Also, Diamond Dallas Page and Kevin Sullivan were found talking about Page's recent storylines and character, and have become good friends.

Not only that, but the card is stacked from top to bottom. Cruiserweight action ensues early, with Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Rey Mysterio Jr. teaming up against Chris Jericho and Eddy Guerrero; Chris Benoit along with his new allies, Raven and The Flock, takes on his former friend and fellow technician Dean Malenko; and DDP goes one-on-one with the monster Meng! Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Chris Jericho & Eddy Guerrero

So much talent in one ring haha. With Chavo getting a title shot at Superbrawl and Rey making his case for one I don't see them losing here.

Dean Malenko w/The Horsemen vs. Chris Benoit w/The Flock

He's being pushed stronger and I think that continues here.

Non-Title Match

Diamond Dallas Page w/Kimberly Page vs. Meng w/The Barbarian & Jimmy Hart

Haku is gonna FEEL - THE - BANG!

Bill Goldberg vs. Lord Steven Regal

Transferring all of Regal's overness onto Goldberg I see. :p

Booker T w/Stevie Ray & Jacqueline Moore vs. Wrath w/Mortis & James Vandenberg

I wonder how far away you are from a Booker T singles run in this diary.

Sting & The Giant vs. The Outsiders

For no other reason than I think Hall needs to be kept strong going into his title shot.

WCW Monday Nitro

Monday, Week 3, February 1998

Rochester County War Memorial; Rochester, NY

<div style="padding: 15px; border: 1px solid #000000; margin:5px;background: #F1F1F1; max-width:100%;box-shadow: 0 1px 3px ";">

Right as Tony, Heenan, and Tenay welcome us to the show,
Bret “The Hitman” Hart
and
The British Bulldog
hit the ring, where they are awaited by
“Mean” Gene Okerlund
. Gene asks their thoughts about their tag match with Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage this Sunday, and for an update on Jim Neidhart.

Bret responds by saying that Jim is taking care of himself and he’ll be back soon, but their focus is on finally getting their hands on the poisonous nWo. Bret calls them out and says that he knows they’re probably planning on jumping him to soften them up before Sunday, so they can just come out if they want a fight!
Hogan
,
Savage
, and
Eric Bischoff
oblige, as they walk down to the ring to meet face-to-face. Heenan doesn’t like this; he feels there’s something up their sleeves.

Okerlund starts in with Hogan, mentioning how he and this weasel Bischoff looked pretty unhappy when Savage accepted the Harts’ challenge last week. Hogan says there’s nothing to be unhappy about, jack, because The Monster Maniacs are back together and there isn’t a damn thing that can stop them. Savage says when the pot is cookin’ and the going gets hot, that’s when steel sharpens steel, oooh yeah! And that’s when friends look out for friends…

As Savage says this,
a large man in an nWo shirt and sunglasses
slides in the ring behind the Harts. Bret and Davey sense him and turn around, but before they can react, there’s a right hand to the head of Hart and Hogan and Savage attack!

“Oh my goodness, who is that?!” Tenay shouts.

“That’s Brian Adams, Tenay! That’s Savage’s friend!” Heenan yells in retort.

With Bret and the Bulldog grounded, Hogan pulls off his belt and whips each of them across the back with it. Savage comes flying off the top rope with an elbow to Davey Boy, and Hogan lifts Bret up for a running big boot from Adams! The nWo stands tall to start the show with a big addition!

Rey Mysterio Jr. and Chavo Guerrero Jr.
vs.

A heck of an athletic contest kicked off the show as four of the finest in the Cruiserweight division went at it. It was an even match filled with crisp chain wrestling and athleticism, and it ended when Mysterio caught Eddy Guerrero off guard and hit a springboard seated senton for a quick pinfall!

In the back,
“Mean” Gene Okerlund
stands by with
“The Total Package” Lex Luger
, who he asks about his upcoming pay-per-view contest against Curt Hennig.
Hennig
himself walks onscreen along with
Rick Rude
, getting in Luger’s face.

Curt says that it’s guys like Luger that have ruined the business that he grew up in. It’s jacked up morons like Luger that give real technicians like himself a bad name, and that’s why he felt the need to join the new World order - to remake WCW as a respectable wrestling company. Luger replies by saying that his beef with Hennig has nothing to do with the nWo or WCW, and that Curt tried to take out his livelihood.

Curt smirks: “And I’m gonna finish the job this weekend, pal.” Hennig walks off as Luger glares at him and Rude.

Kimberly
not to accompany him to the ring for his match against Meng. He’s worried that she’ll get hurt with both Jimmy Hart and The Barbarian at ringside, though Kim insists she can handle herself and wants to be at ringside with him. Dean Malenko w/Arn Anderson & Steve McMichael
vs.
Chris Benoit w/The Flock

Without Ric Flair accompanying Malenko to the ring, Tenay reminded the audience of the beatdown that resulted in Flair leaving on a stretcher last week. In the ring, the former friends put in a stiff, physical matchup, showing their disdain for one another. In a back-and-forth contest, Benoit picked up the win following a distraction by Raven and a Flying Headbutt.

After the match, as The Flock and The Horsemen prepare to scuffle once more, a bandaged, crazed
“Nature Boy”
hits the ring with a steel chair! He swings wildly around the ring as The Flock gets out of Dodge! He grabs a microphone and rips off his polo shirt, threatening Raven and his goons to get back in the ring. He hits the ropes, drops an elbow on the polo, and says he’ll see Benoit and Raven Sunday! Shortly thereafter,
JJ Dillon
hits the ring and informs Flair that WCW refuses to clear him for action at SuperBrawl. Flair pushes back and says that he wants Raven and Benoit, and that there’s nothing WCW can do to stop him! JJ clarifies; he says that it’s really not WCW that won’t clear him, it’s JJ himself. He says that given their history together, few men know Flair like he knows Flair, and that he’s only trying to save “The Nature Boy” from himself, and that his decision is final.

Dillon leaves the ring as Flair continues throwing a tantrum, bloodthirsty for a shot again Benoit and Raven.

While Page knew that Meng, Barbarian, and Jimmy Hart were dangerous, he probably didn’t plan for what happened during this one. In the middle of a hard-hitting contest, Buff Bagwell hit the ringside area to taunt DDP, saying that his wife is with a real man backstage right now - Scott Steiner! Bagwell’s mousy cackle echoes over the PA system as Page immediately leaves ringside and runs to the back, giving Meng a count-out victory.

Buff hits the back with Page in tow yelling for Kimberly. He bashes into her locker room as
Kimberly
screams and says it’s an ambush! Before Page can react, he’s jumped by
Scott Steiner

Back in
JJ Dillon’s
office,
Ric Flair
knocks on the door. He calmly asks Dillon to let him take on Raven this Sunday, but JJ continues to balk. He says he can’t in good conscience let Flair in the ring with Raven and Benoit after he’s seen him take beatings like this. He knows Flair and what he would do to get his hands on those guys, but as a friend, he can’t allow it.

Flair continues to pester JJ, eventually pleading with him. Man-to-man, Flair needs this. He says between those ropes, there’s nobody who can go toe-to-toe with “The Nature Boy,” and he’s been staring at the ceiling at night thinking about what he’s going to do when he gets his hands on The Flock. He says that if JJ truly considers himself a friend, he knows that Ric needs to be able to handle his business on his own. JJ takes a moment, sighs, and tells him that he will book Flair and Dean Malenko against Benoit and Raven this Sunday. But let it be known that it will not be officially sanctioned by WCW - if something happens to Flair in this match, it will not be covered by WCW’s insurance and WCW will not be paying the medical bills. Sting and The Giant
vs.
The Outsiders w/Eric Bischoff

As you would expect, there was no love lost between these four competitors. Bischoff inserted himself as the X-factor here, grabbing Sting’s World Heavyweight Title from ringside. The finish came during a fracas, as Mickey Jay was dealing with Nash and Sting. Bischoff slid the belt in the ring, and Hall nailed Giant with a low blow, followed up by a shot with the championship belt! He slid it out of the ring and made the cover for a huge victory.

After the match, the nWo gets a definitive one-up on Sting and Giant. Nash grabs a chair from ringside and slams it into the back of The Giant a handful of times before he and Hall shove him out of the ring with their feet (with considerable effort). Sting tries to come to his aid, but he’s tossed aside by Nash. The numbers game is too much for The Stinger - he receives a Jackknife and Outsider’s Edge for his efforts. Bischoff and Nash add insult to injury as they grab the World Title and wrap it around the waist of Scott Hall! WCW/nWo SuperBrawl VIII Preview

Sunday, Week 3, February 1998

vs.
???

After dispatching Lord Steven Regal with ease each of the past two weeks, the undefeated phenom Bill Goldberg seeks a pay-per-view paycheck, and has challenged anyone on the WCW roster to a match. Who will answer, and will Goldberg prevail?

Chavo Guerrero Jr.

More is at stake here than the Cruiserweight belt; this is a family divided. Both men claim that the other brings shame to the Guerrero lineage, though only one of them has repeatedly cheated and blindsided the other, and that’s the current champion. Can Eddy continue his months-long reign with the championship or will his nephew Chavo shock the world?

This one should be a straight up fight. Vandenberg’s monsters look to capture the World Tag belts, although one of the top teams in WCW history stands in their way. Will Booker T and Stevie Ray continue their reign, or will Mortis & Wrath capture the gold? And what’s the deal with the abduction of Alex Wright?

Lex Luger
vs.
Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

This rivalry kicked off when Hennig and Rude assaulted “The Total Package” in the parking lot of the arena prior to a tag team match with Diamond Dallas Page against Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell. Luger took this one to heart, ripping into Hennig and Rude and challenging Hennig for SuperBrawl. Hennig accepted and said he’s finally going to rid WCW of the talentless, brainless Luger once and for all!

Since Scott Steiner turned on his brother Rick, we have seen a different side of the man. He’s dyed his hair, called himself “Big Poppa Pump,” and has been attempting to woo Kimberly (Diamond Dallas Page’s newly revealed wife) in his pursuit of the United States belt. He went as far as to give her a set of roses and chocolate, enraging DDP to the point where he made himself susceptible to an nWo ambush the following week. With Rick in his corner, can Page continue his hot streak, or are we in line for a new, dangerous United States Champion?

The Giant
vs.
Kevin Nash w/Eric Bischoff

It’s Giant vs. Giant as the former nWo member looks to prove both to the nWo itself and to WCW that he is the biggest, strongest man in the company. At almost every turn, Nash (and Eric Bischoff) have proven one step ahead of The Giant, though. Nash even attempted to lift the 500-pounder up for a Jackknife, but he was interrupted by Sting. At SuperBrawl, can The Giant make his mark as the top big man in the sport or will Nash be able to lift The Giant for his finishing maneuver and leave him laying?

Ric Flair & Dean Malenko w/The Horsemen

Unsanctioned Match

When Chris Benoit betrayed The Horsemen and joined The Flock, Ric Flair went into a tailspin. It even got Arn Anderson as well as Benoit’s former friend Dean Malenko involved in figuring out just what went wrong, with Flair catching a vicious beating along the way. After “The Nature Boy” begged his old Horsemen buddy JJ Dillon to book a match with him and Raven or Benoit, Dillon acquiesced, though he made clear that WCW would not sanction the match. Meaning that any damage incurred by Flair in this match is his own responsibility. With that in mind, can Flair and Malenko gain some measure of revenge on the enigmatic Raven and his new protege?

Bret Hart & The British Bulldog
vs.
“Hollywood” Hogan & Randy Savage w/the nWo

Since “The Hitman” debuted in WCW at Starrcade, he has made his intentions very clear: he wants to be in the ring with “Hollywood” Hogan. Hogan has eluded him at every turn, including faking an injury at Souled Out, but at SuperBrawl, he teams with “Macho Man” Randy Savage to take on Bret and his brother-in-law Davey Boy Smith! The trump card, however, is the recent arrival of Savage’s close friend Brian Adams at ringside, coupled with the injury to Jim Neidhart after a vicious nWo beatdown. With the numbers game firmly against them (Adams, Bischoff, and Elizabeth will be at ringside), can The Hart Family defeat the nWo, or will Hogan and Savage deal a deep blow to Hart’s claim that he’s “the best there is, was, or ever will be”?

Scott Hall

Back in November, thanks to some nWo shenanigans (shocker), Scott Hall claimed victory in World War 3 to guarantee him a title shot at SuperBrawl VIII regardless of whether the champion was a member of WCW or the nWo. While Sting was able to conquer the “Hollywood” reign of terror at Starrcade and defeated a game “Macho Man” at Souled Out, he has never faced a threat quite like the devious, athletic, resilient Scott Hall. Can Sting continue to fend off the new World order, or will the hostile takeover begin again?

WCW/nWo SuperBrawl VIII Card

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Chris Jericho

Let's even this up at 1-1 before a RUBBER MATCH!

Open Challenge

Bill Goldberg vs. ???

I'll delete my account if you break the streak here. :p

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero ©

Kurt Angle has had lots of great matches with Eddy - he's also wrestled Chavo.

WCW Tag Team Championship

Harlem Heat © w/Jacqueline Moore vs. Mortis & Wrath w/James Vandenberg

As much as Mortis is MY BOY, Wrath is garbage.

Lex Luger vs. Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

Luger was white hot at this point and I don't see much reason to slam the brakes.

WCW United States Championship

Diamond Dallas Page © w/Kimberly Page & Rick Steiner vs. Scott Steiner w/Buff Bagwell

I'm probably wrong here - but I think DDP might be too big for the US title now and having Scott lose so soon after his heel turn would slow his momentum somewhat.

The Giant vs. Kevin Nash w/Eric Bischoff

Nash should surely be in the title scene sooner rather than later.

Unsanctioned Match

Ric Flair & Dean Malenko w/The Horsemen vs. Raven & Chris Benoit w/The Flock

It does feel like Flair cost himself this one when he made it unsanctioned. The numbers game will catch up with The Horsemen here.

Bret Hart & The British Bulldog vs. “Hollywood” Hogan & Randy Savage w/Eric Bischoff, Brian Adams, & Elizabeth

This one was hard to call and though I don't like Bret losing, I sense that Bulldog is there to eat the pin and keep Bret strong for singles matches with Hogan and Savage.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Sting © vs. Scott Hall

I think the Stinger retains here and clashes with Nash next.

Bonus Questions

1. How many titles will change hands? 1.

2. Will anyone turn against or join the nWo? If yes, who? They just added Brian Adams, so I'm going with a No here.

3. Who takes the fall in the Horsemen vs. Flock match? Dean Malenko

4. Who takes the fall in the Hart Family vs. nWo match? British Bulldog

5. We always do the first match. What will be the second match on the show? Chavo vs. Eddy

6. Who will be Goldberg's opponent? (For fairness, I'll tell you it's a member of the current roster) Bobby Eaton

The Brian Adams reign of terror begins. :p Great show as always; very much looking forward to SuperBrawl.

I had this all written and booked and then I went on YouTube and saw Adams' debut happened basically exactly the same way - he showed up in a big, totally inconspicuous trenchcoat, pretended to be friends with Bret, and then held him for an nWo attack and took the coat off to reveal an nWo shirt. I must have buried that deep in my memory :D

Bobby Eaton is a great friend if he leaves his cushy road agent job and tries to avenge the destruction of

Lord Steven Regal against Goldberg. That would be a sight to see, wouldn't it?

Rey Mysterio Jr.
vs.
Chris Jericho

These two athletic youngsters put on a highly effective opening match that was just about equally on par with their Souled Out showdown. Jericho spent the early going toying with Mysterio using tactics like sliding out of the ring, pulling referee Mickey Jay in front of him, and other frustrating strategies. He also tried to get inside Mysterio’s head by pulling at his mask, but that allowed Rey to get close enough to land a few kicks to the ribs and bounce off the ropes for a front dropkick, knocking Jericho through to the floor!

With the tables turned, Jericho was now the aggressor. He tried to catch Mysterio with a triple Powerbomb as he did in their previous matchup, but Rey wriggled out with an arm drag. As Jericho slid out of the ring to catch his breath again, Mysterio gave him no such time, as he springboarded from the turnbuckle over the top rope for a plancha into the guard rail! A few moments later, they ended up back in the ring, and when Mysterio tried a springboard splash near the corner, he was caught in the ribs by a countering springboard dropkick by Jericho! “Lionheart” put a foot on his chest and flexed, looking for a disrespectful pinfall, but Rey lifted a shoulder.

Surprised that Mysterio kicked out, Jericho called for the killing blow as he lifted the luchador for a Powerbomb. But Rey saw it coming and was able to subtly use Jericho’s momentum against him as he rolled him up for a pin. Jay slid over for the count as Jericho’s legs wildly kicked--clinging on for dear life, Mysterio was able to hold the larger Jericho down for the three seconds and picked up a big win to start SuperBrawl VIII!

Remembering the assault Jericho laid on him after the Souled Out match, Mysterio slides directly out of the ring, raising his left arm to the delight of the crowd as he sells a rib injury from the dropkick. Inside, Jericho grabs Jay by the collar and pushes him into the corner before dropping to the ground and slapping his hands repeatedly. He kicks his legs and squirms on the ground, throwing a tantrum.

Schiavone:
Can we get some security down here to get Jericho out of the ring, this is embarrassing!

Jericho walks to each corner and begins undoing the turnbuckle pads, throwing them outside the ring as he screams about being cheated. He gets two unfastened before a group of road agents and referees, led by Bobby Eaton, hit the ring and secure “Lionheart” to the ground before dragging him out kicking and screaming.

“The Total Package” Lex Luger
vs.
Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

Luger could barely hold in his rage in the early going, and Hennig played that to his advantage. A more agile, technical competitor, Curt tried to use Lex’s over-pursuit against him, as he began with a strategy of picking his spots and not letting Luger corner him, going for his legs specifically. When “The Total Package” would go for grapples, Hennig used his chain wrestling skill to transition out and escape the predicament, landing some potshots to Luger’s head and back on the way out of his grasp.

Rhodes:
Lexth Lugah’s gotta watch his back here, babeh, or Henneng is gonna do this to ‘eem all day and wear ‘em down, Toneh.

A few minutes later, Luger caught a break when Curt tried to lift him up for a back suplex and Lex turned himself into dead weight, breaking the attempt and going on the offensive. He landed some shots to the head, knocking Hennig into the corner. As he landed side hip thrusts to the gut, Rick Rude got up on the apron and ducked a wild swing from “The Total Package.” Luger flexed and roared to the delight of the crowd as he ran in for a big clothesline into the corner, but Curt ducked and as Luger bounced out, Hennig rolled him up! Unbeknownst to referee Nick Patrick, Hennig also had his feet on the middle ropes -- 1, 2, no! Luger kicked out!

Schiavone:
We all know Nick Patrick’s history with the new World order, he’s gotta do a better job than that, come on!

Heenan:
Come on, Tony, Nick Patrick is as yellow as Mike Tenay eating a rare steak, you know that--the fix might be in!

As the match wore on, Hennig looked to finish Lex off. After a chop block to Luger’s leg, he went for the Hennig Plex. However, Lex blocked it and hit a vertical suplex! He signaled for the Torture Rack and the crowd rose to its feet. Curt groggily backed up into Luger’s hold, and Lex lifted him for the Rack! Before too much damage could be done though, Rude slid in the ring and blasted Luger in the back with his briefcase, causing a disqualification!

Schiavone:
I thought Rick Rude was “just an advocate”! What in the world is going on?!

After the match, Rude puts the boots to Luger, allowing Hennig to get to his feet and continue the assault. As Patrick goes to restrain Rude, he gets a fist to the head for his troubles. Hennig grabs the groggy Luger and lifts him for the Hennig Plex! After laying “The Total Package” out, Hennig walks away and mimics kicking dirt on Luger before walking out with Rude.

The two luchadores matched up with each other like they’d been doing this their entire lives. Early on, they matched each other strike for strike and hold for hold, though Eddy used a subtle eye rake to gain the early advantage. He tried to finish it off early by using his wrestling ability to contort Chavo into various positions, but his nephew was able to eventually break free of a surfboard hold and pulled down the middle rope as Eddy was charging, sending him flying through to the floor!

As Eddy tried to regain his composure, Chavo took advantage, vaulting himself over the top rope onto Eddy to the floor! The two men got to their feet and Chavo ran at his uncle, but Eddy used his precociousness to send him flying into the ring post! Eddy rolled him into the ring and climbed to the top rope, looking for the Frog Splash. Chavo was able to react in time to thwart the attempt, but he did catch a crossbody. He rolled back through it and nearly stole the Cruiserweight belt, but Eddy was able to kick out. The two clashed again in the middle of the ring and Eddy surprised Chavo with a quick DDT, absolutely flattening him. Eddy climbed to the top rope and landed a Frog Splash attempt for the win to retain his belt.

This is SuperBrawl, baby! And that means one thing. It means that “The Naitcha Boy” and “The Iceman” are comin’ to your doorstep Raven, and we are gonna tear the wings off of your Flock one...by...one! WOOOOOO!!

We head back to the commentary desk, where the three men are apprehensive.

In the back, cameras are nearby the
new World order
as they discuss the night’s upcoming events. After a minute of strategy, Scott Hall starts to talk about Sting, but “Hollywood” Hogan can’t help but take petty cheap shots.

“Hollywood” Hogan:
Hey, you know brother, you never thanked me for World War 3 when I let you win the battle royal…

Scott Hall:
The hell are you talking about, Hogan?

Hogan:
What do you mean what am I talking about, dude? We talked about this: when Big Kev came down like Sting, I decided to let you win by walking out of the ring instead of tossing your ass over the top rope like I should have!

Hall:
Whoa whoa whoa, “brother,” you gotta focus on the Hitmang, pal. You got bigger problems. Don’t worry about me, I’m gonna go out there tonight and take care of The Stinger. Unlike you. Just because you gave up to Sting at Starrcade doesn’t mean--

They’re cut off by the voices of Kevin Nash, Randy Savage, and Eric Bischoff, who get in between the two. Hogan and Hall toss potshots toward one another until Nash explodes.

Kevin Nash:
That’s IT! Shut UP! GOD. We’ve all got business to take care of tonight if we want the nWo to take back over. And guess what? It’s gonna take YOU. It’s gonna take ME. It’s gonna take RANDY. I’ve had enough of this crap. It’s always
something
with you, Hulk. I’m gonna go have The Giant airlifted out of this place and get a damn beer or something.

Nash storms off, leaving the remainder of the nWo to chew on his thoughts, Bischoff on his heels.

Rhodes:
Kevin Nash better focus, he’s got a big Giant on his hands right now!

The Giant
vs.
Kevin Nash w/Eric Bischoff

Nash tried to keep up his aloof demeanor with Giant to play mind games, but it was clear to anyone that the nWo issues were bearing on him. Trapped in the ring with a monstrous Giant, Nash recognized that he had to focus or else get flattened. After an early flurry where Giant dropped Nash, Kevin slid out to regroup with Bischoff. The Giant roared, yelling at Kevin to get back into the ring, and when he didn’t comply, The Giant got onto the apron and jumped down with a double axe handle! Nash moved, though, and sent Giant crashing into the guard rail!

Like a vulture, Nash used that to pounce, landing right hand after right hand to the thick head of The Giant. An Irish whip into the steps dislodged them and elicited a howl from the big man, who appeared to have hurt his Chokeslam hand. At Bischoff’s urging, Nash continued to go to work on the Giant’s right club. A few moments later, Giant was able to fight back with knees and kicks, including a massive dropkick to knock Nash down to the ground! After a big splash, Giant felt his time to strike and lifted his right arm into the air with a roar.

Rhodes:
Here we go, babeh, it’s Chokeslammin’ time!

As Nash rose to his feet, Giant wrapped his hand around Kevin’s throat, prompting Bischoff to get up onto the apron. With Randy Anderson dealing with him, Nash bent back the thumb on Giant’s hand, but he kneed Kevin in the gut and grabbed him with the left! Before he got the chance to attempt the left-handed Chokeslam, though, he was smashed in the back with a chair...by Konnan! While it staggered him for a moment, Giant tossed Nash aside and turned toward Konnan, who swung the chair again, only to have it punched out of his hand by The Giant! By the time Giant turned around, however, Kevin landed a field goal kick to his groin, doubling him over. At this point, Bischoff dropped off the apron as Nash grabbed Giant and lifted him up - it wasn’t pretty, but he hit the Jackknife! Nash rolled onto The Giant for the academic 1, 2, 3!

Right as the bell rings, Konnan re-enters and puts the boots to The Giant. As he’s doing so, Bischoff comes around the side of the ring and slides the punched chair inside. Nash picks it up and lands a handful of big chair shots to the barn-sized back of his opponent, leaving him down and out as the nWo celebrate!

Harlem Heat © w/Jacqueline Moore
vs.
Mortis & Wrath w/James Vandenberg

The WCW tag team division was more hard hitting than it has ever been, with brawler after brawler stepping in the ring with one another, and this battle was no exception. Despite some early technical work from Booker T and Mortis, the majority of the match consisted of strikes and manhandling. At 6’6” and nearly 300 points, Wrath was the biggest man in the match, and he used his size to his advantage throughout, although Stevie Ray was able to go toe-to-toe with him. Mortis & Wrath had a lot going on early, though despite Wrath’s strength and Mortis’s unique style of offense, they weren’t able to gain a pinfall to that point.

After a hot tag from Stevie to Booker, it looked like Harlem Heat had it in the bag, but that was until Booker turned around into a Superkick from Mortis. Another comeback attempt was thwarted by James Vandenberg from the outside, who subtly hooked Booker’s leg with a cane. Booker turned and pointed at him, and as he turned around to a big boot attempt from Wrath, he ducked, and Jacqueline Moore came tearing around the outside toward Vandenberg, who tried to escape! In the chaos, Booker outmaneuvered Wrath to land a Harlem Sidekick to the head and finished him off with the Harlem Hangover to retain the belts!

We head backstage again, this time to the locker room of

Sting:

Lex Luger:

back. So good luck tonight -- you gotta focus, because after I make this Hennig and Rude situation right, I’m still coming for that belt.

We then head back to the commentary table, where the team is a bit apprehensive.

Heenan:
It looks like Lex Luger might be losing it a little bit, Tony. This is what happens when you get outsmarted at every turn, though for Luger he could get outsmarted in a second grade spelling test.

Schiavone:
Oh, please--well, whatever the case may be, it’s clear that Lex Luger has a Curt Hennig and Rick Rude problem and he wants to handle it himself. Speaking of having problems, the Cruiserweight Champion Eddy Guerrero has one on his hands. The WCW Championship Committee has announced that in four weeks at WCW Uncensored, Eddy will defend his championship against the man who pinned him just six nights ago, Rey Mysterio Jr.!

Diamond Dallas Page w/Rick Steiner & Kimberly
vs.
Scott Steiner w/Buff Bagwell

Lost in the feud between these two men over Kimberly Page was the fact that both men are top-notch wrestling talent. While it wasn’t surprising that the early part of the matchup was a heated brawl, it did turn into a bit of a wrestling match at times, which favored the challenger. Early on, Scott used Page’s overzealousness against him by ducking a clothesline attempt which sent him into the corner, and as he stumbled back out, Steiner hit a German Suplex to send him across the ring to the other corner. Scott went to work on DDP’s back to soften him up for the Steiner Recliner, and in doing so, he continued his pursuit of Kimberly, kissing his biceps and taunting his brother Rick.

It was only a matter of time before Rick’s temper got the best of him, and it did when Bagwell tried to grab Page’s leg from the outside a few moments later. Steiner sprinted around to take him out, and the two started to brawl along the outside! The crowd erupted as Rick handed Buff a beating, clotheslining him into the front row of the audience! Steiner continued to land right hand after right hand, dragging Bagwell up toward the concession area as officials gave chase!

Meanwhile, in the ring, DDP was able to use the diversion as a chance to get back in the match. Though a Diamond Cutter attempt was unsuccessful and turned into a belly-to-belly suplex attempt, Page broke Steiner’s grasp and landed a snap swinging neckbreaker! It didn’t garner a successful pinfall, but it allowed DDP to catch his breath, and Kimberly cheered him on from the outside. The champion stood back as Steiner bounced off the ropes looking for extra power on his clothesline, but Page countered into a tilt-a-whirl slam! An attempt for a DDT, though, culminated in a Northern Lights Suplex by Steiner, though Page was just able to inch his shoulder off the ground before three!

At this moment, from out of nowhere, Buff Bagwell ran out and got up on the apron for a well-placed distraction as Scott retrieved the United States belt and was lining Page up for it, but two things happened at once: “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” came screaming from the back like a house of fire to knock Buff down, and
Kimberly Page
grabbed the belt from behind Scott! As he turned around and called her a “freaking bitch,” Page turned him around and looked for another DDT! Scott reversed that one too though; grabbing him for a belly-to-belly, but Page elbowed him in the face and stunned him, giving DDP enough time for a lightning-quick Diamond Cutter! Mickey Jay slid over as Page made the cover: 1...2...3!

After the match, we get a celebration from the victorious trio as Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell lick their wounds, Steiner absolutely furious that Bagwell wasn’t able to help him capture the United States belt! The crowd goes wild for “The People’s Champion” as he fends off another challenger for his title!

Next, we get a video of the story thus far in the bitter, personal, often bloody rivalry between
The Flock
and

Ric Flair & Dean Malenko w/The Horsemen
vs.
Raven & Chris Benoit w/The Flock

Unsanctioned Match

If you were expecting a lot of wrestling holds in this one, you didn’t really get that. From the start, with Flair opening against Benoit, you got kicking, scratching, clawing, and ugliness. It was Benoit trying to prove himself against Flair and Flair trying to prove himself against Benoit, and each man got their shots in in the early going. Referee Randy Anderson entered this one as essentially a walking three count, as WCW management had made it clear that normal rules do not apply in this one. The Flock predictably tried to use that to their advantage, though after Riggs and Hammer jumped over the railing, they were grabbed from behind by Edge, who simply shook his head “no.” They looked in at Raven, who told them to get back over the railing.

Schiavone:
An oddly sportsmanlike move here from Raven, who you wouldn’t expect to play by the rules…

Heenan:
Schiavone, that’s the point - there
are
no rules. Raven could tell Edge to let the dogs loose and there’s nothing Flair and Malenko could do about it! I’m just worried he’s got something else up his sleeve…

It didn’t take long for the match to devolve as Raven and Benoit isolated Malenko with Flair chomping at the bit for a tag. As Raven stomped Dean out and stared over at Ric, “The Nature Boy” got through the ropes and charged at him, right past Randy Anderson, and shoulder checked him into the corner, where Benoit snuck a tag. Benoit hopped over the ropes and laid into the back of Flair’s head with a forearm, sending him to the floor. “The Crippler” followed and threw Flair into the ring post in front of the Flock contingent. He took the steps apart, and as he was about to slam the steps on Ric’s ankle, Arn Anderson pleaded with him to think twice. Benoit looked right at him and dropped the steps right on Flair’s chest! This prompted Mongo to charge him, taking Benoit to the ground, while The Flock finally intervened! A fracas ensued in which the far superior numbers of The Flock held The Horsemen at bay, especially with a retired and injured Arn Anderson in the mix.

Benoit slid back inside the ring and was surprised by Malenko with a quick roll-up! “The Crippler” kicked out and the two reverted to their chain wrestling instincts despite the rules of the match. That ended when Malenko looked for a wrist lock and Benoit reversed it, lifting him up and launching him over the ropes to the floor! Outside the ring, Flair had been jumped by The Flock and was suddenly cut open as he started to shove away and chop the likes of Lodi, Sick Boy, and Riggs, eliciting “woo”s from the live audience!

Flair was able to make his way back in the ring to take on the legal man, Raven. Though Raven was fresher (and not bleeding), Flair was wild-eyed and in control as anything Raven tried, “The Nature Boy” would counter with punches and chops, as well as raking Raven’s eyes. A few moments later, Raven found himself in a tough predicament as Flair tried to lock in the Figure Four! He kicked him off, though when he came back, Flair used the rules to his advantage by landing a massive low blow! But as Flair tried to capitalize, he was suddenly attacked by a
! He grabbed Flair, tossed him into the ropes, and flattened him with a spinning slide slam!

Schiavone:
Who in the world is this man?! What is going on?!

Heenan:
I told ya, Tony! Flair didn’t know what he was getting into with this psycho Raven!

The finish was academic after that: Randy Anderson looked distraught as Raven picked up Flair’s lifeless body and dropped him on his head with an Even Flow DDT for the victory.

After the match, with the timekeeper ringing the bell frantically, The Flock continued their vicious beatdown on The Horsemen. While Benoit locked the Crippler Crossface on Malenko along the outside of the ring, the large man grabbed the Television Champion Steve McMichael and hit him with headbutt after headbutt, eventually splitting him open as well! Finally, Raven calls off the dogs as The Horsemen are left bloody and beaten at SuperBrawl VIII.

This one was, to put it lightly, a slugfest. Goldberg and Norton represent two of the best big athletes in WCW, so what it came down to was which man would be able to hit harder and strike faster. In the early going, due to the involvement of Vincent, it was Scott Norton, but after Goldberg blocked a Samoan Drop attempt, the former defensive lineman took over. From there, Goldberg blitzed Norton with some shoulderblocks, an impressive military press slam, the Spear, and a Jackhammer for the victory.

Bret Hart & The British Bulldog
vs.
“Hollywood” Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage w/Brian Adams, Eric Bischoff, & Elizabeth

To kick off the match, Randy Savage and Davey Boy locked up. Despite Smith’s superior size, Savage was able to use leverage to maintain his balance and avoid early power moves from his adversary. Referee Nick Patrick, always a controversial choice in marquee matchups, had his hands full with Bischoff and Adams around ringside. As a scrum between Hogan and Smith hit the outside, Hogan retreated toward the nWo, and as Davey Boy followed, he was cut off by Adams. The two jawed back and forth, which allowed Savage an opportunity to land a forearm to the back of the Bulldog’s head!

Heenan:
Dealing with “The Macho Man” you always gotta have eyes in the back of your head!

Rhodes:
Yes sir, Bobbeh the Brain, there ain’t nobody nastier or nuttier than that man right theah!

The match wore on with Hogan appearing to avoid “The Hitman” if at all possible. He succeeded largely in part because of the isolation of Davey Boy, not allowing him to use his powerful legs and hips to build momentum. Instead, Hogan and Savage used cheap tactics like ramming his ankle into the post, choking behind Patrick’s back, and of course relying on cheap shots from Brian Adams. Despite Bret’s frustration, he was repeatedly restrained by Patrick from entering the ring. At one point, however, as Hogan strutted and flexed over Davey Boy, he unwittingly allowed him to get up and land a clothesline to knock “Hollywood” to the mat! As Hogan made the tag to Savage, the Bulldog made a hot tag to “The Hitman!”

Rhodes:
Heeeeah we go, babeh!

Bret entered the ring like a house of fire, finally having the freedom to attack! He landed a clothesline followed by a reverse Atomic Drop, coupled with a bulldog for a big combination! Hogan charged and Bret evaded, tossing him through to the floor! And as Bischoff got on the apron, Hart was a step ahead, as he bounced off the ropes and flew through the opposite side for a suicide dive to knock Adams tumbling to the ground! As Bret got back into the ring, he went for a Piledriver, but Savage blocked it and landed a scoop slam. The next few minutes progressed with Savage and Hogan getting their shots in on Bret.

Adams made his presence felt yet again, as in a comeback attempt, Bret bounced off the ropes and was nailed in the small of the back from the outside, forcing him to crumble onto his knees. Smith came running around the post and nailed Adams with a clothesline before tossing the big man into the guard rail! As he approached Hogan, Hulk put his arms up and pleaded, begging Davey Boy to go back to the other side of the ring. As he did that, Bischoff jumped on his back! Meanwhile, inside the ring, Bret had reversed a suplex attempt and was turning “Macho Man” over for the Sharpshooter! Hogan nailed Davey Boy thanks to the Bischoff distraction, and as he went to rescue Savage from the devastating hold, he suddenly...pulled up. With Randy writhing in pain, “Hollywood” Hogan took a second look at his nWo stablemate and stepped down from the apron. Before long, the pain was too much as Savage submitted to the Sharpshooter!

After the match, Hart and the Bulldog recover and begin their celebration. Outside the ring, Savage grabs his back as he rips into Hogan. Hogan denies leaving him out to dry and Bischoff tries to defuse the situation. Savage has had enough, though; he pushes Hogan away and limps off, Elizabeth and Adams at his heels!

Schiavone:
Well, Brain, it looks like we have some dissension in the ranks among the nWo - Savage is not happy about what Hogan did here tonight!

Heenan:
I’ll take what we can get, Schiavone -- any nWo strife is a win for WCW!

Sting ©
vs.
Scott Hall

The contest kicked off with Hall circling the ring wiggling his fingers, pretending to be afraid of “The Stinger.” Once they finally locked up, Hall used his five extra inches and thirty extra pounds to keep Sting on his toes and battling from the bottom. His strategy became clear: to work on the knee of Sting which he had injured a few years prior. It was a pretty intelligent strategy given that the Stinger Splash and Scorpion Deathlock require a lot of exertion from the legs. As the early portion of the match wore on, Sting regrouped a bit by landing a snap DDT to stun Hall. As the battle waged on, Kevin Nash walked out from the back sipping on a bottle of beer to cheer on his buddy.

Heenan:
I don’t like this at all. WCW needs somebody to get out here right now!

Sting then had to operate with his head on a swivel, and with a man as dangerous as Scott Hall in the ring, it was a tall task. For the time being though, Nash kept to himself. Sting got on a bit of a roll and knocked Hall into the corner with a dropkick. As he went for a Stinger Splash though, Hall caught him and turned around into an abdominal stretch! Sting writhed in pain as Hall landed elbows to the ribs, but he was able to grab the ropes to get himself back into the action. Shortly thereafter, following a vertical suplex, Sting went for
another
Stinger Splash, but Hall pulled referee Mickey Jay in the way, sending him crumbling to the ground!

It was at that moment that Kevin Nash seized his opportunity. As Sting battled with Hall, Nash climbed into the ring and clubbed him in the back of the head with the beer bottle! Sting fell face-first into the ground as Hall and Nash did the “too sweet” symbol to one another. They put the boots to the champion and Scott Hall hit the Outsider’s Edge! Looking to put the finishing touches on the nWo coup, Nash picked Sting up and went for the Jackknife, but the crowd went ballistic as The Giant hit the ring!

Schiavone:
The Giant is here! There’s a 500-pound Giant on the loose here at the Marriott Center!!

The Outsiders clubbed on him as he stepped over the ropes, but he shoved Hall to the side and went right for Nash! Right hand after right hand ensued, followed by an open hand chop and an impressive dropkick to send Nash through the ropes! However, Hall would then land a low blow on The Giant, halting his momentum and doubling him over as the groggy Sting was pulling himself to his feet. Hall caught his breath in the corner, but Sting came flying across the ring for the third Stinger Splash attempt, nailing the challenger! Nash got up on the apron with the championship belt and tried to hit Sting with it, but Giant pulled him off the apron back to the floor! With Hall stumbling toward him, Sting kicked him in the gut and looked into the crowd. He grabbed him by the head and turned him over -- Scorpion Death Drop onto the title belt! Sting slid the title out of the ring just as Mickey Jay came to his senses to crawl over and make the count...1...2...3! Sting retains the World Heavyweight Title!

Following the ringing of the bell, Sting has his hand raised by Mickey Jay while The Outsiders walk to the back together, defeated. The Giant gets the crowd riled up as Sting hits each of the four corners of the ring to shout “WOO!!” and show off his belt!

Heenan:
We dodged a bullet there, “Dream,” the nWo were seconds away from taking that belt back and finishing WCW off!

Rhodes:
You got that right, Bobbeh, but because’a that big, massive Giant and “The Stinguh,” Dubya-C-Dubya is still on top, and the en-Dubya-oh is going back to Hogan’s hotel room with tears in they eyes and tails between they legs!

Schiavone:
And despite The Giant’s loss here tonight, he comes through for WCW in the end, evening the odds against The Outsiders to help Sting keep the belt. What a victory, and what a night for WCW! Backstage Notes
: To a gathered locker room after the show, Eric Bischoff expressed his happiness with how almost all of the show went over. He singled out Chris Jericho as a good example for allowing Rey Mysterio to go over despite his recent momentum. He also said that although he wasn’t a fan of The Flock gimmick at first, it’s clear to him that Raven’s solid performances have the fans intrigued. And of course, he shouted out his buddy Scott Hall for a great performance along with Sting in the show-stopping main event. Everyone seemed to be pretty happy with the night and with Eric’s speech.

<p>Excellent show from top to bottom. WCW really had such a stacked roster at this point!</p><p> </p><p>

Hogan deciding not to help Savage is such a classic heel Hogan thing for him to do and it immediately makes me excited to see what the fallout from that might be. I was also completely convinced that Davey Boy would take the fall in that match, so the moment legit caught me by surprise, which I liked.</p><p> </p><p>

Really enjoyed the show and I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here. Great job!</p>
