What is the point of a written contract?

Recommended Posts

This may just be me being a bit stupid but what is the point of a standard written contract? It just seems useless. If you are going to sign someone on a written deal you might as well just sign them to an exclusive written as you can still approach people and sign them if they have a standard written contract. It just seems to be paying the same as an exclusive written but with none of the safety.

By allowing them to work for other companies, they also can possibly develop faster as they are working more matches in a year than they would being exclusive to you...especially if you are a small company with only a couple show s a month, vs. say a Big Japanese company that runs 100+ events a year. Maybe you like a guy and want him in the fold, but he's not a 'core' guy, so if you lose him you lose him. As a small/med company, it would suck sometimes to lose a guy to a bigger contract with another company, but part of me felt good about helping them get that money...and they were going to a bigger company so good for them. Different story when you're a big company...

If the worker is unwilling to sign exclusively with you (such as a worker that is loyal to another company), it could be a way to sign him/her long-term with the added security that he won't leave your company.

Also, workers tend to ask more for exclusive contracts.
