Weight Restrictions for Titles

Recommended Posts

Hey, guys. I know a lot of this is subjective and can really be whatever anyone decides, but what do you guys normally use your minimum weight levels for your titles?

I would think Middleweight for the World Title, then have some secondary title with no restrictions.

Could lead to some interesting storylines where a great worker falls outside the guidelines of the World title and ends up building up the secondary title to an equivalent prestige?

Obviously none of this might work out, but I have Raphael on my roster. Looking at the picture, and gimmick, he strikes me as a Tyler Breeze type. I'm small enough to where I could put the title on him eventually (I think he's a "star" in my company right now, but there are other people higher up, just much older).

So I guess one option is just call it the World Title (instead of World Heavyweight Title) and have him eventually fight for it. Another would be have him be ineligible for it, but give him a secondary title he can build up (thinking of an X Division type title, but could just as easily be an Intercontinental/US Title - just one where there are no weight restrictions). Could eventually lead to someone being that good that they deserve a shot at the World Title. Or maybe it's a mater of both of these are prestigious and people could go for either.

There's just something about seeing lightweights carrying the main strap in a company that has several guys bigger than them.

For the game, how it has weights broken up would be:

Lightweight and lower(230lbs-): Junior Heavyweight/Cruiserweight

Middleweight and higher(231lbs+): Heavyweight

I think there are a number of interesting things you can do and you've mentioned some of them.

The only possible downside to having a weight restricted title is that you need enough workers to make it make sense. You kind of will end up having 2 different rosters if you break out your titles by weight - even if you don't actually use the setting for weight divisions.

This is just all in your head and what you are ok with. If you're fine with having 4-6 guys in a Cruiserweight division, go for it. For me, that would kind of kill the immersions since that belt would have a very diminished standing (I'm the best in the world!!! [out of these 6 guys who are already a subsection of 20 other guys who don't compete for my title]).

If you're playing a top company, it isn't an issue since you will have plenty of workers and I think it makes the game more interesting to have a lot of titles that make sense.

Starting with smaller companies, I always go with just "World" title and leave off the "Heavyweight" since there is no weight division.

Ideas:

Heavyweight, Junior Heavyweight, Openweight.

Openweight seems like it should be the most prestigious in this case since it is a competition with everyone but it is usually a secondary or tertiary title. Playing my current game from a small company, my World title will evolve into the Openweight with Heavy and Junior being added when I am large enough. I'm itching to do it now at Medium size but I don't feel like it is realistic or feasible to add 20 or so more workers and split out divisions.

Heavyweight, Cruiserweight/X-Division

I think this is the way most Western fans would think about a generic wrestling company. Instead of just calling them "smaller dudes" with Cruiser or Junior, the X or High Flying division is an interesting(but silly/gimmicky to me) way of separating your huge people from the very good but smaller guys.

A belt for all or most weights

This would be kind of like MMA but is also done in Mexico. Some of the lower weight championships are more prestigious than higher in Mexico since that is generally where their stars have landed. US/Canada has lumped a lot of guys together in Heavyweight for so long but things have been broken out in Mexico for a while so it naturally became that way. it is also true in some ways with MMA and boxing too I guess. The aura of a heavyweight still hits with non and casual fans but lower weight classes are where most fans would point to the most skilled fighters. From my research, this is pretty much because of natural human weight distribution. There are more people who are not huge so there are also more skilled individuals who are not huge. At what point does size and strength negate skill though? That is not somethting that is easily seen since real Openweight fights are rare.

The problem with this is that the game kind of has a crazy way of describing weights so most people would really just be middleweight or lightweight so some divisions would have very little competition.

Overall, to me, the weights in wrestling create interesting nuances. I think the perception is that lower weights = lesser prestige. Someone who is highly skilled but a lower weight can still just be squashed by a huge guy. In some ways, stuff like that is true and in some ways it is not but I think it is interesting to try and not write yourself into a corner where some of your wrestlers are "lesser" just because they are not heavyweights.

Like you said, it is all subjective but this is the kind of stuff I get into more than the wrestling itself so i wanted to share my thoughts and I probably spent too much time doing it <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />.

I only use the limits on titles for my juniors, rest of the titles are open even if its never really talked about, its just the juniors who want to chase the "Heavyweight" title or secondary titles have to "declare" their intentions and usually have to enter either my G1, which is Survival of the Fittest in my ROH 2014 started save, to prove they can hang with the "BIG BOYS". Alos if I have a real over JR champ ill have him face off with my main champ in a main event of a special show to see what he can do, then if the story fits he might drop the title and declare.

Right now im using it as a bit of a storyline idea, Adam Cole starts as ROH champ in my 2014 save but because he is only 24 and his stats are not quite up to par as far as stamina and psych, and the fact I want AJ Styles to carry ROH for now, im having him drop the title to Jay Briscoe then to AJ Styles but putting Adam Cole into my JR round robin to crown my inaugural ROH Junior Champ. He is going to see it as a slight on him having only just lost the WORLD TITLE a week prior to the announcement and whinge and complain after each of his block nights about being better than "just another small guy". He will go onto win the ROH World JR Title and defend it out of spite to ROH all the while declaring his intentions to become World Champ again BUT not relinquishing his status as "BEST JR IN THE WORLD"

Sorry if this got off track lol

Normally I try to keep things openweight for all my titles (World, Tag, Intercontinental). I've always made a mess of things adding in weight classes.

Recently in a save for a small Japanese federation, I made a Junior Heavyweight title because I noticed I had a wealth of smaller talent AND a smaller guy that I wanted to keep putting over.

Helped me keep that guy over until the World Title scene opened up to take on new contenders. Then I held an angle where "X relinquishes the Junior Heavyweight belt to take on the big boys!" and followed with a tourney for a new Junior Heavyweight champion.

Thanks for the input. I will probably keep it "unspoken" like Money Mac describes. I currently have a lot of workers in Middleweight and up - haven't looked at my roster below Middleweight yet.

I have 10 spots in my tournament. Rather than pack it all with Major Stars and Stars, I'll try to have some good workers that are recognisable or below to start to showcase them agains the bigger names. Could also lead to some workers feeling slighted about not being included and branching off into a related storyline.
