RED CANVAS - 赤い帆布

siJHqif.jpg

Following the downfall of Golden Canvas Grappling and Warrior Engine XXV, there was a gap in the country. At least, that's what Taka Kajiwara thought. The long time heel manager and announcer from World Level Wrestling began brainstorming with some financial backers and an idea was born: RED CANVAS. Combining the old school puroresu of GCG and the hard hitting action from WEXXV, RED CANVAS would be a modern take on what GCG was, moving even past what Black Canvas was doing. At least, that was the thought. And the man Kajiwara trusted to run it all?

"The Immortal" Jimmy Cox.

The former GCG World Champion and innovator of the Immortal Driver moved stateside in 2017 after the closure of GCG was tapped to lead, not just by Kajiwara but also by current WLW Owner Kaneie Komine. Kajiwara agreed to stay under contract with WLW and sought the advice of the former Burning Hammer & current WLW Owner who had plenty of advice, and with Cox being stateside, Komine felt the gap that Kajiwara was trying to fill would be best led by a Gaijin who had Gaijin contacts.

So in January of 2020, the company was born.

PuroWorld is proud to bring you the latest news in Puroresu, with the newest company coming out of the minds of Taka Kajiwara and Jimmy Cox. RED CANVAS, as it's known as, appeared on the scene and social media networks within the few weeks before Christmas. Kajiwara has not left World Level Wrestling and RED CANVAS is said to have a strong relationship with WLW. RED CANVAS seems to be a different approach than WLW as well, where as WLW is of course Lucha inspired, RC seems to be inspired by hard hitting action. In a press conference, lead booker Jimmy Cox described it as the spiritual successors to both GCG and WEXXV.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

With that said, there was a post on Cox's and RC's twitter accounts of the image above. A press conference was held on January 2nd with the 16 workers in the image above alongside RED CANVAS CEO Taka Kajiwara. Kajiwara announced that the RC-1 looked to become as relevant as the PGHW Elite Series, or Burning Hammer's Best of the Super Juniors, becoming a premier event for the hardest hitters in the world.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';">

  • Jimmy Cox cut a promo before his match against the young lion, pointing out his undefeated record versus "garbage" wrestlers as he put it.

  • Yuta Osono and the Goka Squad was out before James Diaz's match and mocked Diaz for making the "Return of the Monster" so underwhelming. The presence of the Goka Squad at ringside was too much for Diaz to deliver the W.

Omezo Shikitei (6) d. Goro Hatamoto (3)

EXHIBITION: Doug Peak & Tornado Nagai d. The Goka Squad (Miyazaki & Ishinomori)

  • During the show, Edo Phoenix IV appeared and came to the ring. At the ring, he kissed the mat before heading back to the backstage.

  • The Goka Squad came out before Yuta Isono's match, as the three hyped their two matches later in the night, which Yuta said would be a guaranteed win.

Block A, Night 4
(Saturday, Week 3 January)

Kuniyoshi Kawamura (12) d. Taiji Chajima (0)

Eikichi Itou (6) d. Dreadnought (3)

James Diaz (3) d. Jimmy Cox (9)

Taheiji Konoe (9) d. Washi Heat (6)

  • Before their match, as tend to be, Jimmy Cox came out and declared himself the presumed winner. This fired up Diaz who said he was tired of people overlooking him!

  • Edo Phoenix IV came out again and bowed to referee Kazuko Hiroyuki before returning to the back.

With two weeks left in League Play, who will come out on top?
RED CANVAS on Twitter announced the top four wrestlers of each league would meet in a single elimination tournament, with the finals of each block being televised in back to back nights on Shogun TV and the final night of the tournament and other matches airing live on Shogun as well.

While not featured on any tour shows yet,
RED CANVAS is promoting a robust tag division on social media.
It is said
Dreadnought & James Diaz will be teaming as the New American Psychos
and
Shingen Miyazaki & Sozen Ishinori are the Goka Squad.
Other tag teams include the
Modern Ninja Killers
(Battle Sakata & Eikichi Itou),
The Tokyo Mountains
(Kawanari Enomoto & the newly signed Shogo Awatari), the newly reunited
Chaos Demons
, and the young lions
Cloaked in Shadows
(Prowler Igarashi & Shadow Ichimori).

Everyone is tight lipped over
Edo Phoenix IV
and his antics. It is believed this is to reinvent the Edo Phoenix gimmick.

PGHW's
SATO
apparently walked out on the company. SAISHO, RED CANVAS, BCG and WLW are all said to be interested in him, although the reason behind SATO's departure hasn't been made public yet.

FROM RED CANVAS SOCIAL MEDIA

With one night left
for each block, here's where each block stands:

In Block A Kuniyoshi Kawamura, Jimmy Cox & Taheiji Konoe have all clinched spots in the Elimination Tournament. Their seeds will be determined on the final night. If Cox wins versus Dreadnought, he will become the #1 seed as he holds wins over Kuniyoshi and Taheiji. However, if he were to lose the main event of Kuniyoshi Kawamura & Taheiji Konoe will determine the #1 seed. Regardless of what happens, the loser of the main event will become the #3 seed. As for the
#4 seed,
it currently is up for grabs.
Washi Heat and James Diaz
are both tied with 9 points. Washi faces the winless Taiji Chajima and a win clinches the 4th seed for him. However, if he were to lose his match,
James Diaz would need to win or tie in his match with Eikichi Itou
to claim the 4th spot. If both men end up tied in points, Washi Heat would gain the seed.

In the B block,
things are a little clearer.
Masashi Urogataya
claimed the #1 seed after his win on night 6. The
#2 seed
can be either claimed by Omezo Shikitei or Yunosuke Fujisaki, as both men face off. The winner will be the #2 seed and loser #3 seed. The
#4 seed
can be claimed by either Yuta Isono (after his win on night 6) or Kawanari Enomoto. Yuta Isono claims it if Enomoto loses in his match against Urogataya. Isono can also clinch it with a win against Shuga Amano. Enomoto only claims the #4 seed if he wins and Isono loses.

Block A, Night 7
(Friday, Week 1 February)

Dreadnought (6) d. Jimmy Cox (15)

Eikichi Itou (7) and James Diaz (10) fought to a time-limit draw

Washi Heat (12) d. Taiji Chajima (0)

Taheiji Konoe (18) d. Kuniyoshi Kawamura

  • Cox stated before his match that Dreadnought wasn't a garbage wrestler, he just wasn't good enough to share the ring. Cox got his comeuppance however, receiving his second league loss against another of Doug Peak's charges.

  • After his draw, Diaz was obviously exhausted when the Goka Squad hit the ring. Before they could do anything, Diaz's fellow Psychos Doug Peak & Dreadnought evened the odds. Yuta Isono simply smirked, reminding Diaz that Yuta would be rookie of the year.

  • Edo Phoenix IV came out and adorned the ring steps with flowers.

Block B, Night 7
(Saturday, Week 1 February)

EXHIBITION: The Chaos Demons d. Cloaked in Shadows

Omezo Shikitei (18) d. Yunosuke Fujisaki (12)

Goro Hatamoto (9) d. BIG BOSS EMPEROR (0)

Yuta Isono (12) d. Shuga Amano (3)

Masashi Urogotaya (21) d. Kawanari Enomoto (9)

EXHIBITION: Jimmy Cox & Yasuhide Tayama d. Taheiji Konoe & Kuniyoshi Kawamura

After the main event of Urogataya & Enomoto, Jimmy Cox came out and introduced his newest ally: Yasuhide Tayama. He then challenged any 2 "garbage wrestlers" to a match, which Block A opponents Konoe & Kawamura answered.

RC-1 FINAL LEAGUE STANDINGS

James Diaz - 10 (3-3-1)

Eikichi Itou - 7 (2-4-1)

Dreadnought - 6 (2-5)

Taiji Chajima - 0 (0-7)

BLOCK B

Masashi Urogataya - 21 (7-0)

Kawanari Enomoto - 9 (3-4)

Goro Hatamoto - 9 (3-4)

Shuga Amano - 3 (1-6)

BIG BOSS EMPEROR - 0 (0-7)

Yasuhide Tayama
is the newest signee of RED CANVAS. It is expected he will team with one of the GCG alumni, although probably not long term with Cox. Their match at Night 7 of Block B showed neither had chemistry with each other. There is also chance of Tayama getting a singles run as well. Nothing is finalized if there will be a GCG stable like there is a WEXXV stable.
