STRIKEFIRST - Irish Professional MMA

Will STRIKEFIRST, Strike First?

A new MMA promotion will be making it's debut in the coming months in Ireland looking to take on the likes of British Cage Fighting and Signature Martial Arts. STRIKEFIRST MMA is a debuting company with it's first event tentatively scheduled for the final week of February. Currently only the 8th Professional Mixed Martial Arts Promotion in the World, the young upstart will look to push to the forefront of the mind for all MMA fans.

Former Amateur Boxing Promotor Rory Corbett has apparently thrown his whole life savings into this company as his "Last ditch effort to do something big with my life", as he put it himself when interviewed today. The company will start with four weight classes with the plan being to have a starting roster of 16 fighters per weight class. The starting weight classes will be Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight. No big names have been announced and it's believed that there won't be any in the near future. Rory is using his contacts in the MMA world to bring in some young Upstarts and older veterans who didn't live up to the hype they may have brought when younger.

Nobody really knows what to expect but with a man throwing his life savings in the ring(and ,yes, STRIKEFIRST will be one of only two current Pro MMA companies to hold their fights in a ring instead of a cage) we are sure to at the very least watch the man go down swinging. With the first card coming down the pipeline we expect the first champions will probably be crowned via tournament and a more traditional MMA set up to follow in events after the first.

We personally look forward to what is on it's way down the pipeline for this upstart promotion.

In The News:

Nadir Mendes Ferreira Calls out Newton Reis after knocking out Kameo Oya in Round 1 of his first fight with STRIKEFIRST. "It's no disrespect, he is a strong fighter and I only want to fight the best, so if I have it my way, he is next," his post fight interview was translated as saying.

Ryan Fenniman calls out Freddy Lomax after his win saying “The Axe” can’t stand up to the “Gold Standard”. This may have pushed "The Axe" to his impressive start with STRIKEFIRST as Freddy "The Axe" Lomax starts his time with the company as STRIKEFIRST 1st Featherweight Champion. The new Champion had nothing to say when asked about Fenniman and that may be a message of it's own.

Jazz Snide calls out Nigel Collett calling him a coward who has ducked him from the amateurs to the Pro’s and isn’t man enough to fight him. Nigel Collett responded to Jazz Snide later in the night saying he isn’t scared to fight anyone but his eyes are really on fighting Dieter Kolzig next as he want’s to fight up the Rankings not down.

Marko Prochazka calls out Piotr Dabrowski announcing that “He can’t Beat me, not even in practice”. This is the first time Marko has called out someone who left Russian Combat Sambo, but probably not the last as he has a lot of team Pride. Marko, known for his loud mouth around RCS looks like he will call out anyone who has left the team in recent years and is in his weight class.

Strikefirst 2: O'Flaherty vs Khan Results

STRIKEFIRST 2: O’Flaherty vs Javed Khan

Main Event

#10 Javid Khan (7-5) defeats #9 Brian O’Flaherty (4-1) in 2:20 of Round 4 by TKO (Strikes). Khan calls this one of the biggest wins of his career. In what was an even match across the board Khan got a good shot in on O’Flaherty’s chin that caused the fall and Khan was able to take advantage.

Welterweight Bout

Co-Main Event

#7 Geraint O’Connell (4-0) defeats #10 Ignatius Hepfinger (9-11) in 3 Round by Unanimous Decision. Judge 1 scored the fight 30-27, Judge 2 scored the fight 30-26 and Judge 3 scored the fight 30-25. Hepfinger was visibily upset as he felt O’Connell was toying with him the last round and kept yelling “You should have just gone for the knock out. All three Judges scored the fight 29-28. Another exciting fight that got the crowd on their feet. The “Honey Badger” grabbed the mic after his win and called out Duey Rickert. The two have a history on the “minor leagues” as Royle holds two wins over Rickert. Rickert has gone on record to call them both flukes and saying the judges were paid off for the decision victories.

Featherweight Bout

#10 Shawn McCarthy (3-0) defeated #13 Nathan Wyles (1-1) in 4:24 of Round 3 by Submission (Rear Naked Choke).
