Domino Effects - December 1997 [HYPE THREAD]

Recommended Posts

Really shocked about the Genadi thing - if you don't mind me asking, why is he so bothered if you edit the stats or not? I'm sure 99% of TEW users edit the data's they download before playing anyway. Genadis stats always seem to be very HIGH and lead to constant match ratings of 99/100... if thats what your into fair enough....

With that being said, it may be better to start from scratch as there will be a level of consistency.

I'm sure you guys are going to release a fantastic mod!! Saddened this new revelation means we will be waiting much longer - but good things come to those who wait!

Yeah, they were way too high, like most mods I always mass edit all skills -10 if not more. Not fun when everyone is the greatest ever.

Thanks for the explanation mate - would like to offer my help but it looks like you have everything under control! Keep up the work.

Is it possible to have previews of stats and in game play (when the time is right of course)?

When the time is right, we will be showing a preview of the mod! Thank you for your support.

29/3/2021 Update

Since last week's announcement, we have made great progress!

After starting from scratch, we decided to focus on one company at a time. The first company has been All Japan Pro Wrestling.

For AJPW, we have created all of their wrestlers, title belts and history (the latter aided by Bigpapa42 who kindly let us import). Not just that, but as of writing this, we also have created 15 chemistries, 16 relationships, 13 tag teams, 1 announcers experience and 4 starting stables (with another prospective 2 on the way). That is for AJPW alone.

We have created 46 broadcasters so far, and 66 broadcasting deals too, which I would say is a high number considering the mod starts in 1997.

We have also set up 19 starting company relationships thus far. Some are working relationships of the time, while some are outright obvious (WWF vs. WCW), while one or two others are more subtle but realistic. Like for example AJW and ARSION start off with negative feelings, and then the relationship can develop from there.

Elsewhere, all events for ECW, WCW and WWF have been created. This includes ''dormant'' events. So, if you are playing with WWF and wanted to introduce Vengeance for example, as a Pay-Per-View in 1998, then you can do so without creating it yourself. The same for the UK PPV's WWF did, like Insurrextion. It wasn't possible to add them as an AI event, since that they would then benefit from full PPV revenue, rather than just Sky Box Office. This is the same for ECW and WCW - if you want ''Greed'', ''Sin'', ''New Blood Rising'', etc. from their final days, then that's all set up as dormant. Although I must say, I decided not to include ''Barely Legal'' for ECW - since Paul Heyman himself said that it would be a one-time thing.

On behalf of jeronimoe and myself, I want to say a big thank you to Jedaum. Since joining our team to work on the mod, he has been excellent. He possesses an excellent knowledge on Japanese wrestling (both male and female promotions), and will be later helping us with the lucha scene, too.

Last but not least, here is a screenshot from AJPW!

This is also a sneak peek of what our picture pack will look like.

wow looking good! never really followed the Japan scene but the detail of this mod looks awesome.. Looking forward to you posting a sneak preview of an american fed.

can i request to see stats/pop of some well known names?

Thank you!

Eventually, we will be showing worker skills and popularities. But for now, we will just prefer to work on the mod and get stuff done, and then when the data is a lot more fleshed out and ready, we can show different screenshots depending on you guys' requests. I think it will work better like that. We just wanted to get an early screenshot out to show everybody that there are actions behind all of these words, especially since the Genadi news last week probably felt like a big setback to anyone that is following this thread closely.

I'm absolutely pumped for this mod, thanks!

Very happy to hear that! Thank you for your support!

Interesting company to start with. This era is full of potential superstars that never amounted to anything though all around the world. Good starting point for sure.

Yeah, there is so much talent out there at this point! Plus, the talent that will be future workers, debuting in the early 2000s and onwards. With the ''potential'' settings, we should be able to mould future debutants more realistically, which is exciting. I.E, AJ Styles won't have crazy good stats in the 1998-2001 period - at least that's the plan, anyway!

Very interested in this project, if you haven't already you should take a look at the wrestling observers (or the rewind summaries) from November and December, they are really interesting reads and give good insight into who was unavailable, what the politics/relationships were like, and why things happened the way they did.

Thank you for the interest! Yes, the Observer is going to be a very useful source for us. I seem to recall a lot of them around the time being (understandably) dominated by the Montreal Screwjob, but there’s other bits in there too that will be handy.

12/4/2021 Update

Progress has been steady since the last update! More company relationships, broadcasters, deals and worker relationships have been added, as well as move sets.

Also, much more Google spreadsheet groundwork has been laid by Jedaum. It's going to be very useful going forward.

The biggest movement was getting NJPW's full roster and contracts done, here is a sneak peak of them:

25/4/2021 Update

We are now currently looking at 56 starting broadcasters and 76 starting broadcasting deals. We're open to any suggestions on European broadcasters to add from the 1997 time period. We currently have the likes of Eurosport, Canal+, DSF and RTL, but there might be more that have been overlooked. So, suggestions are most welcome.

A major part of this update has been getting RINGS done, and here's their top stars:

7/5/2021 Update

A lot of work has been put into broadcasters (starting and future) since the last update. Last time we had 56, and now we've got 107. I have managed to find some gems along the way which will open up some nice avenues for people playing with all kinds of different companies. I'm still not content with 107 and more will be added in the future, but some really good groundwork has been laid. Also, a shout-out to Bigpapa42 who has given me really helpful information regarding Canadian channels as well as suggesting some.

There is now 80 starting broadcasting deals, and right now, that looks like it could be close to the final number unless things pop up/more companies are added.

As far as companies themselves go, I'm pleased to say that we have added our fourth one since starting from scratch:

Going to admit I check this forum daily for updates on this mod. The level of detail is unreal.

I cannot wait for this mod to be released and get my teeth stuck into it - it’s sad that I usually only play big promotions in the USA - but thanks to the detail and realism I’ve seen so far I may venture the unknown

Keep it up!!!! Please keep posting sneak preview

Thanks for both of your messages.

Yes, the mod is still alive and well. However, jeronimoe and I's personal lives have been rather busy ever since we posted the last update, and therefore progress has been slower than how we would have liked.

Anyway, further good news is that the WWF is close to being finished. Hopefully it will be completed within the next week or so. A full update will be posted as and when.

14/7/2021 Update

Getting all of the WWF's 100 staff/workers into the mod has been the main priority since the last update. We managed to get it done, and all what remains with the WWF now, is the tasks of getting the starting storylines, movesets, pictures, relationships, etc. done.

We are now at 109 broadcasters (starting and future), and more will be added at a later date. However, since the last update, 175 broadcaster changes have been added.

There is now an overall of 240 workers in the mod, so far.
