Monsoon and Heenan welcome us to the show, as Heenan refuses to acknowledge Monsoon's continued, and constant mentions of his managerial "retirement". They eventually announce tonight's main event, Buddy Landel taking on Ric Flair with both Landel's TV title and the "Nature Boy" moniker on the line. They end their intro by sending us to The Dragon and Bam Bam Bigelow standing by with Gene Okerlund.

EEITnCX.jpgm42sSZt.jpgJ5RELg7.jpg

rn73XZ4.jpg

Okerlund asks The Dragon why he stopped short of crushing Hogan's leg in a chair after their match at Summerslam if he was just going to continue to attack Hogan like last week. The Dragon takes a huge exception to this though. "Now hold on a minute, Gene! I had NOTHING to do with Bam Bam here attacking Hogan last week, he acted completely on his own. Now, I certainly do approve of the attack, but it wasn't my idea. I do have an idea though. You want another piece of me, Hogan? Fine, I'm ready when you are. But Bam Bam here is a very impatient man and I'm not gonna stand in the way of what he wants. And he wants you, Hogan! At Backlash! If you've got the guts to face the "Beast from the East", and if you somehow survive, I'll be waiting on the other side."

In a decent match, Smash defeated Dino Bravo in 7:30 by pinfall.

After the match, Kevin Sullivan tries to "brainwash" Bravo just like he'd done to Smash at Summerslam, but the Ultimate Warrior rushes to the ring and scares them off.

In a poor match, Koloff's new friend, now officially going by the name Dmitri, defeated Tom Zenk in 3:20 by pinfall with a Running Powerslam.

NN8HExg.jpg

<hr>

After a dominating performance by Dmitri, Sgt. Slaughter and the Big Boss Man rush the ring and attack the big man.

Nikita Koloff runs out to help his friend,

but he isn't needed, as Dmitri makes short work of both men, quickly wiping them out with Powerslams.

Ted DiBiase & Sid want their rematch for the tag titles at SNME: Backlash.

Commissioner Graham says no way though and instead informs them that due to their recent antics, the DiBiase/Sid team is banned from the tag division for the remainder of the year! Effective immediately!

In an exceptional match, Larry Zbyszko defeated Mr. Perfect in 10:41 when Perfect was counted out after chasing Terry Funk away for antagonizing his dad at ringside.

<hr>

With Perfect successfully drawn to the back by Funk, Larry Hennig is cornered by Paul Orndorff back at ringside.

Y0aBEZC.jpg

Perfect, apparently told what's going on by someone backstage, sprints back to the ring to fight off Orndorff. Fortunately, though, The Texas Tornado had already ran in through the crowd and scared Orndorff away.

Before the match can get underway, the Kingdom comes down to ringside to "watch".

y9U6V8V.jpg2CI5XZj.jpguiRsVG0.jpgI7JWHGW.jpg

It looks like it might be a long night for Flair, but Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart join Elizabeth at ringside to even the odds a bit.

hx5l4Zu.jpgHfr9JPp.jpg

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Ric Flair wins his WWF debut match, defeating Buddy Landel in 15:48 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock. Ric Flair wins the WWF World Television title and exclusive use of the "Nature Boy" moniker.

6fL59iz.jpg

<hr>

As Flair celebrates his victory with Hart, Neidhart, and Elizabeth, the Kingdom looks like they're about to attack. Flair quickly grabs a mic though and warns Savage that Liz could be caught in the crossfire if they attack. This does indeed cause Savage to hesitate and he calls off his "dogs". Sensational Queen Sherri ignores him though and goes after Liz, screaming in her face. Bret Hart starts to intervene, but Flair assures him it's okay. Sherri tries to slap Liz, but Liz blocks it and lands a hard slap of her own, sending Sherri to the mat and the fans home happy.

The instant she hears the word girl, Madusa flies off the handle, mauling Powers as Larry Zbyszko stands back and enjoys the show.

Well, I do have a problem endin' yours. We were friends, Shawn. As tight as brothers. But you threw it all away! And for what? Nothin' from where I'm sittin'. I don't wanna do it, Shawn! I really don't. But you've left me no choice. At Backlash, you're finished!" Pillman comes out at this point, and as soon as he gets Jannetty's attention, Michaels attacks, throwing Jannetty through the Barber Shop window, leaving the crowd in stunned silence as medical personnel rush onto the scene.

A rare backstage interview to open the show features Hulk Hogan accepting the challenge of Bam Bam Bigelow for Saturday Night's Main Event: Backlash. "I bet you just think you're so smart don't you, Dragon? Well, all you've done is delay the inevitable, brother! All you've done is put the day of reckoning off for the future, jack. But your day of reckoning is just 5 short days away, Bigelow, and in front of 20,000 screaming Hulkamaniacs in Los Angles, brother, you will feel the wrath of Hulkamania! SO WHATCHA GONNA DO, WHEN ALL MY HULKAMANIACS, AND THE LARGEST ARMS IN THE WORLD, RUN WILD...ON...YOOOUUUUUU??? "

Back from commercial, and Gene Okerlund is backstage again, this time with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and the lovely Miss Elizabeth. Flair talks about how much he's always respected the Hart family and how that respect has only grown since arriving in the World Wrestling Federation, especially with how quick Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart were to have his back when he was outnumbered in last week's main event. He then says he's prepared to return the favor, and announces he'll be in the Harts' corner this Saturday at SNME: Backlash when they face Rick Rude and Vader.

Monsoon: WELCOME, to the "City of Angels", Los Angeles, California! WELCOME, to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena! And WELCOME, to Saturday Night's Main Event: Backlash! Hello everyone, I'm Gorilla Monsoon and I'm joined for the first Saturday in almost 2 months by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan!

Heenan: And I've sure missed it, Monsoon!

Monsoon: Really?

Heenan: Oh yeah, I couldn't wait for the opportunity to smell your banana breath up close on a different day of the week!

Monsoon: WILL YOU STOP?!

Heenan: Not likely.

Monsoon: Well, at least you're being honest for a change.

Heenan: Don't get used to it!

Monsoon: Oh, I definitely won't bother. What an action-packed show we have on deck for you tonight, folks. We've got Hulk Hogan taking on Bam Bam Bigelow. We've got the finals of the WWF Women's Championship Tournament, as Lioness Asuka battles Rockin Robin for the gold. We've also got a match for the WWF Tag Team Championship, as the Legion of Doom with Paul Ellering, defend against The Conquistadors. And, in our main event, we'll see the original Hart Foundation reunite, as Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart seek vengeance against Vader and "Ravishing" Rick Rude for their attack on The Anvil and Owen Hart at Summerslam. But neither side is coming alone Brain, as it's all hands on deck for the Kingdom, with WWF Champion Randy Savage and Sherri in Rude and Vader's corner. And not to be outdone, the Harts will have "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and the lovely Elizabeth in their corner, Brain!

Heenan: Not to be outdone, Monsoon? Of course, the Harts are outdone. Rude and Vader are the only team with the WWF Champion in their corner.

Monsoon: Well Savage won't be champion for long if Flair gets his wish, Brain.

Heenan: Maybe in his dreams, Monsoon!

Monsoon: I guess only time will tell. For now, let's go down to "The Fink" for our opening contest.

Mr. Perfect and The Texas Tornado w/ Larry Hennig vs. Paul Orndorff and Terry Funk

QvZ2FVS.jpgIYQfaUB.jpgw/yFNFuyg.jpgxblkqeI.pngY0aBEZC.jpg3qzcoj1.jpg

Late in the match, with Funk and Tornado as the legal men, Paul Orndorff tried to go after Larry Hennig once again on the outside. This of course got Mr. Perfect involved and the commotion distracted both Referee Earl Hebner and The Texas Tornado, allowing Funk to hit Tornado with a low blow from behind. He followed it up with a Piledriver to pick up the win, as Bobby Heenan exploded with joy on commentary.

Heenan: YES, YES, YES, YES, YEEEESS!!

Monsoon: Calm down, Bobby, you're gonna pop a blood vessel or something!

It was now time for the Street Fight, and Shawn Michaels was out first, accompanied by Brian Pillman. Michaels and Pillman are all smiles as Michaels poses for the crowd. Michaels taunts Jannetty, gesturing for him to bring it on, but Commissioner Graham comes out instead.

lObEcd2.jpg

Graham: Well, you're sure in a good mood, Mr. Michaels! Especially for someone scheduled for a Street Fight.

Michaels cockily shrugs.

Graham: Well, as much as I'd like to see Marty Jannetty wipe that cocky little smile off your face, it's not gonna happen. At least not tonight anyway, since I was informed by our doctors earlier today that Mr. Jannetty hasn't been cleared to compete tonight.

Michaels slaps both of his cheeks in a feigned look of shock.

Graham: Hmmm. It's almost like you already knew that, Mr. Michaels! Well, that would explain why you're so happy. I guess you're free to go!

Michaels and Pillman go crazy, celebrating as if they'd just won the Super Bowl, as Graham makes his way towards the locker room. He suddenly stops though and turns back towards the ring.

Graham: You know what, Mr. Michaels? On second thought, it just wouldn't be fair to reward you with a night off after what you did to Mr. Jannetty. So just go ahead and stay there, your opponent will be with you shortly!

Graham heads on back through the curtain, as Michaels throws a mini tantrum in the ring, slapping a turnbuckle and kicking the bottom rope before stomping around the ring like a scolded four-year-old.

pSgqVy6.jpg

"Two by Four" suddenly blares through the arena, heralding the arrival of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan! Michaels and Pillman look surprisingly happy that Duggan is Michaels' opponent, and they huddle up in the corner to gameplan, as Duggan marches to the ring.

Missy Hyatt is backstage next to interview Dino Bravo ahead of his tag match with the Ultimate Warrior, as they take on Army of Darkness members Kevin Sullivan and Smash.

Hyatt: Hey guys, Missy Hyatt here, and I'm joined by Dino Bravo. So, Dino, what are your thoughts about your match tonight against the Army of Darkness? I bet you're like, really scared!

Bravo: Oh no, Missy. I'm not scared of anyone or anything. I wasn't even scared of the dark when I was...

Bravo stops and turns to someone off-camera. The camera pans to reveal it's Paul Bearer that's caught Bravo's attention.

cUdFYH7.jpg

Bravo steps towards Bearer as Missy Hyatt suddenly screams, throws down her mic, and barely avoids getting plowed over as Smash and Kevin Sullivan barrel into Bravo from behind.

O5CcA1R.jpg4gr1auE.jpg

Bravo fights back valiantly and seems to be making some headway until The Undertaker enters the fray.

0YsDiyO.jpg

Undertaker quickly dashes any hopes of Bravo prevailing in this battle, putting a quick end to the skirmish with a Tombstone Piledriver on the cement floor.

Big Boss Man and Sgt. Slaughter vs. WWF Intercontinental Champion Nikita Koloff and Dmitri

0DVmuB8.jpgJA1MJD7.jpgxblkqeI.png3tOYMIU.jpgje6k2vL.jpg

In a superb match, Sgt. Slaughter and Big Bossman defeated Nikita Koloff and Dmitri in 10:19 when Sgt. Slaughter defeated Nikita Koloff by submission with a Cobra Clutch after Dmitri accidentally decked Koloff, knocking him right into Slaughter's clutches.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Koko B. Ware next, who's ready to introduce his partner for tonight.

Okerlund: Ladies and gentlemen, joining me now to introduce his partner for tonight's intergender tag team match, is Koko B. Ware!

Ware: Thank you, Gene, I am feeeeellin' gooooood tonight! YEAH!

Okerlund: Glad to hear it, Koko, but hold on just a minute. I know you're here to introduce your partner for tonight's match, but I can't help but notice you're here without your usual partner, Frankie.

Ware: Oh he's here, Gene. HEY BABY, BRING OUT MY OTHER BABY!

<details> <summary>SPOILER</summary>

HNb015I.jpg

A beautiful blonde woman, probably in her late 20s and with Frankie on her shoulder, is all smiles as she joins Ware and Okerlund.

Ware: Gene, I'd like you to meet my partner, Ivory!

Okerlund: How do you do?

They shake hands as Ivory is just beaming. Her smile slowly turns to a pout though as she turns back to Koko.

Ivory: Is that all I am to you, baby, your partner for tonight?

Ware: Oh no! You're my whole world, baby! Ebony and Ivory, livin' together in perfect haaarmooooooonyyy! It's time to fly, baby!!

Ware and Ivory exit.

Okerlund: Well, there you hav....

Okerlund stops and waves in The Ultimate Warrior, who's apparently been pacing back and forth nearby during the entire Koko/Ivory interview.

LrRaKZ7.jpg

Okerlund: Get in here, Ultimate Warrior. What are you gonna do about a partner now that Dino Bravo has been taken out by the Army of Darkness?

Warrior: THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR DOESN'T NEED A PARTNER!! Because I've got the power of all my little warriors, TO SEE ME THROOOUUGHH! ARMY OF DARKNESS, YOUR CERTAIN DEFEAT, IS AT HAAAANDD!!

Koko B. Ware and Ivory vs. Larry Zbyszko and Madusa

sTthJJh.jpgHNb015I.jpgxblkqeI.pngZvn19t1.jpg3oWsOwL.jpg

Larry Zbyszko and Madusa defeated Koko B. Ware and Ivory in 9:51 when Madusa defeated Ivory by pinfall with a Bridging German Suplex after Ivory had given Madusa all she could handle and then some.

The Ultimate Warrior vs. Kevin Sullivan and Smash w/ Paul Bearer

LrRaKZ7.jpgxblkqeI.pngO5CcA1R.jpg4gr1auE.jpgw/cUdFYH7.jpg

It barely took a minute for this one to turn into a straight-up 2 on 1 beatdown, with Sullivan and Smash ignoring all attempts by Referee Joey Morella to put one of them on the apron to officially start the match. It also didn't take long for a new partner to emerge, helping Ultimate Warrior even the odds.

U8K34ai.jpg

It was none other than Smash's former tag team partner, Crush! The huge Hawaiian rushed the ring, quickly helping the Warrior clean house, and finally allowing Morella to call for the opening bell.

In a decent match, The Ultimate Warrior and Crush battled Kevin Sullivan and Smash to a double disqualification in 9:42 when Morella lost control of things again and called for the bell.

Bam Bam Bigelow w/ The Dragon vs. Hulk Hogan

J5RELg7.jpgw/m42sSZt.jpgxblkqeI.pngrn73XZ4.jpg

In an exceptional match, Hulk Hogan defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in 16:22 by pinfall with a Big Leg Drop following botched interference by The Dragon.

zUIEnZl.jpg

<hr>

As one might expect, The Dragon and Bigelow didn't take kindly to the match result and began to assault Hogan post-match.

6c5ITBO.jpg

Roddy Piper suddenly bursts onto the scene though, hopping towards the ring about as fast as a man on two crutches could move. Despite the speed in which Piper had hopped to the ring, getting into the ring proved a bit more difficult, as Piper struggled to make it up the ring steps. Noticing his struggles, The Dragon and Bigelow mockingly laughed as they continued their beatdown of Hogan. Their good time would be short-lived though, as Piper was faking and didn't actually need the crutches, which allowed him to sneak in and attack Hogan's assailants with said crutches, inciting a roar from the crowd.

Lioness Asuka vs. Rockin' Robin

WmSzRkB.jpgxblkqeI.pngSdZkHLK.jpg

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Rockin' Robin defeated Lioness Asuka in a Women's Title Tournament Finals match in 9:45 by pinfall with a Bulldog. Rockin' Robin wins the WWF Women's title.

Exa3y6U.jpg

<hr>

As Robin celebrated her Women's Championship Tournament victory, Madusa would make her way to the ring.

3oWsOwL.jpg

Robin was hesitant but eventually conceded to a handshake offer from Madusa. Madusa then offered Robin a hug, but Robin smartly refused. Madusa shrugged as if to say she understood, then exited the ring and started towards the back. Sure that Madusa was leaving the arena, Robin turned to continue her celebration. Turns out she was right to be hesitant from the get-go, as Madusa rushed back to the ring and attacked, leaving Robin in a heap before stealing her title and retreating to the back.

The Conquistadors defeated The Legion of Doom in 8:01 when Conquistador Dos defeated Hawk by pinfall with a handful of tights after a chair shot to the head. The Conquistadors win the WWF World Tag Team titles.

After their shocking victory, the Conquistadors quickly grabbed their newly won Tag Team titles and made a hasty getaway towards the back, as Animal checked on Hawk. They stopped just short of the curtain though and pulled off their masks, revealing....

This was an outstanding match, once again showcasing the superior wrestling ability of Bret Hart, but just as importantly, the sheer brutality, and therefore great potential, of Vader. Vader wouldn't be able to reach his potential in one night though, certainly not this one, as he was scared away late in the match by....

a returning Jake "The Snake" Roberts and his new, much larger, python!

With Rude now going it alone, Hart and Neidhart were just too much. Savage tried to interfere on Rude's behalf, but Flair put an end to that in short order, and Rude was pinned by Bret Hart following a Hart Attack at 15:31.

Flair and Savage continued to brawl after the match, fighting out through the crowd with Elizabeth and Sherri following closely behind. Back in the ring, Hart and Neidhart celebrated their win with Roberts and his new python, as Backlash went off the air.

Show Rating:

zUIEnZl.jpg

<hr>

Post-show notes:

- The Hogan vs. Bigelow match rating of 93 comes in at #6 in my top 10 matches of the save, and is now Hulk Hogan's highest-rated match of the save.

- Koko B. Ware and Ivory have great chemistry when teaming together.

- The Ultimate Warrior and Crush didn't work well as a team, their timing was all over the place.

- Mr. Perfect and Texas Tornado have absolutely zero chemistry as partners. Terry Funk and Paul Orndorff also don't work well as a team, and their timing was all over the place. Yikes! No wonder that match tanked!

Top 10 in-ring performances of the night:

Bret Hart - 100

Vader - 93

Hulk Hogan - 93

Hawk - 93

Animal - 92

Big Boss Man - 91

Rick Rude - 91

Nikita Koloff - 90

Jim Neidhart - 87

Larry Zbyszko - 86

The Next Day:

- Jim Duggan finalized a written contract with WCW. I had offered him a 1-year deal to give me time to siphon off more of his pop, but he liked their multi-year offer better.

- Shawn Michaels says Dmitri sells like crap and tells me to cut him loose and find someone who can actually work.

Well I didn't see the twist with the Bushwhackers, though I am glad to see them actually win gold in the WWF. Also shows how well I know about the women's scene at the time because I didn't even know that Ivory was active during the early 90s.

The Bushwhackers could have been so much more in the WWF had they been treated seriously by McMahon and company from the start.

Yeah, Ivory had actually been around for quite a while by this point, but at the same time, she's still pretty raw in the ring. I'll probably use her mostly as a valet to start, slowly transitioning her into a full-time in-ring role as she improves in developmental.

<hr>

I'll try to have the updated prediction contest standings posted later tonight or in the morning as I'm a bit "under the weather" right now.

Ebony and Ivory, that's kinda nice! Didn't do well with my predictions, but that was a good show :)

Thanks, Blodyxe!

<hr>

Just an update on the dynasty.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I've been under the weather and that's why I haven't posted any new shows. Unfortunately, by "under the weather" I mean I seem to have contracted Covid-19. But not just me, as my lovely wife, my father, my sister, my nephew, my brother and his girlfriend, and my brother-in-law all have it as well. Fortunately, my symptoms have been mild so far, though definitely still unpleasant, with a dry cough that comes and goes and a lack of appetite/nausea being my most frequent symptoms. My wife's had it worse, with a consistent sore throat, loss of taste and smell, and some pretty bad nasal congestion. My dad's probably had it the worst, which isn't a surprise given that he recently turned 65 and had lots of health issues to begin with.

Basically, I've just got so much on my mind that I can't even concentrate long enough to post shows that are already finished. Hopefully, we can all get past this and make a timely recovery and I can get back to posting this dynasty as I intended. I'd appreciate it if anyone reading this can keep my family and myself, and anyone else currently suffering from this awful virus, in your thoughts and prayers.

Author's Note: When I was initially posting this diary in the 2016 forums real-life kinda got a bit hectic around this point in the diary and I had to go a little light on my write-ups for the months of September, October, and November. They're certainly not bare-bones or anything, but they're not quite as in-depth as the shows from Summerslam and before. The PPV write-ups in particular, are lacking compared to what came before them. I thought about fleshing them out a bit more as I was tidying up the old posts for the move to the 2020 forums, but I've decided to leave them as-is. Ultimately, I just think the time I would have used to beef them up could be better spent writing future shows that will keep this diary moving along at its current steady pace. Expect the more in-depth style to return starting with the December shows.

WWF TV for Week 1, October 1991

Backstage before the show:

- The Ultimate Warrior annoyed Tracy Smothers by constantly mocking his lack of push. I gave Ultimate Warrior a slap on the wrist, and Smothers had the nerve to call it "soft", after complaining to his boss that a co-worker was mean to him!

We open the show with "Also Sprach Zarathustra" already blaring through the arena, as "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and the lovely Miss Elizabeth join "Mean" Gene Okerlund in the ring for an interview. Flair gets straight to the point by reiterating his desire for a shot at the WWF Championship.

y9U6V8V.jpg

Flair: Savage, our little scuffle at Backlash on Saturday was just a small taste of what's to come. One way or another, SOMEDAY, SOMEHOW, I'm gonna get a shot at your WWF Championship. And when I do, your reign of madness will be over, and THE NATURE BOY, WOOO, WILL PROVE ONCE AGAIN, THAT I AM THE GREATEST, OF ALL TIME! WOOOO!!

UEr9TJE.jpgWikFKEQ.jpg

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan end the opening segment, by recapping this past Saturday's Backlash and announcing tonight's main event, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan going one on one with the man who cost him his match with Shawn Michaels at Backlash, Brian Pillman!

Missy Hyatt interviews Mr. Perfect and The Texas Tornado, along with Larry Hennig, and they accuse Bobby Heenan of still pulling the strings in regards to their feud with Terry Funk and Paul Orndorff. Bearer: OOOHHH, Ultimate Warrior, Crush, much like yourself, is a very powerful man, indeed. OOHH, but neither of you, is a match for my Undertaker!

Undertaker: Crush. You've chosen to align yourself with a dead man. Turn back now before you join him. Before you too, find yourself, resting....in....PEAACCE!!

- Terry Gordy turned up so high on soft drugs that he had to be sent home as he was in no condition to work. I sent him to rehab and he'll be gone for six months. That's strike 2 for Gordy as this is the second time he's turned up to work high and needing to be sent home, and he was hit with a possession charge back in June before he debuted. One more screw up and he's out.

Back from commercial and we go to Paul Bearer and The Undertaker in the Funeral Parlor, with guests Hercules and his manager Slick. Slick cuts right to the chase.

Slick: I know why you asked us here, Paul Bearer! But the answer is nooooo. Hercules is not for sale! Now, I know that you know, that I know, you guys have been havin' some trouble with Crush. Now that he's joined up with The Ultimate Warrior that is.

U8K34ai.jpgLrRaKZ7.jpg

Slick: And, I know that you know, that my Hercules has had a few run-ins with him too in the past month. What you DON'T know, is that Hercules works alone, so even if I was interested in selling him to you, it just wouldn't work! Now, where we go from here, is u.....

Bearer cuts Slick off there.

Bearer: OOOHHH, Mr. Slick, you misunderstand me. I don't want to buy your Hercules. I invited you here, so we could TAKE HIM!

As we return from commercial, The Dragon is with Bam Bam Bigelow and Missy Hyatt in the ring. The Dragon says he's tired of Piper sticking his nose in his business with Hogan and if he hadn't already given Piper a good beating at SNME: Roadblock in July, he'd challenge him for another match for the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event. But since he has nothing more to prove against Piper, he'll just let Bigelow teach him a lesson instead. If he's got the guts that is!

Commissioner Graham interrupts though and says he's got a better idea. A tag team match for Saturday Night's Main Event: Vengeance, pitting The Dragon and Bam Bam Bigelow against Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper.

rn73XZ4.jpg

The Dragon smiles at this news, happy he's dodged facing Hogan one on one. Graham has some bad news for him though,

Graham: I don't know what you're smilin' about, Dragon. The only reason you're not facin' Hogan one on one at Vengeance instead is that he's not quite 100% after your cowardly 2 on 1 beatdown following his match with Bigelow at Backlash. And I don't want you gettin' off light by facing Hogan while he's injured. So, with that in mind, Dragon, let me just go ahead and ruin your Thanksgiving right now. Because on Sunday, November 24th, live from Memphis, you'll be going one on one with Hulk Hogan!

Everyone was shocked when it was revealed to be The Bushwhackers under the Conquistador masks at Backlash, as they used a steel chair and a handful of tights to defeat the Legion of Doom for the tag titles. No one was shocked though, to learn it was Ted DiBiase behind the scheme. And no one was surprised here either, as anyone paying attention could see how this "match" was gonna play out before it even started. As the bell rang, DiBiase squared off with Luke, and the two tied up, collar and elbow, before Luke let DiBiase go behind and lock in his Million Dollar Dream sleeper. Luke immediately went limp and the referee raised and dropped his arm three times, awarding the match and the WWF World Tag Team Titles, by "submission", to DiBiase and I.R.S in just 19 seconds.

Before the main event, "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Bret "The Hitman" Hart backstage. Hart begins the interview by talking about how good Rick Martel is in the ring, and how far he could've gone in the wrestling business had he focused a little more on working his way up the ladder, and a little less on his hair!

6IeqDOZ.jpg

He then gives an update on the condition of his brother Owen, saying he'll be back soon and that Jake Roberts isn't the only man Vader should be looking over his shoulder for.

D6jDtTj.jpg

And the same goes for Rick Rude too, because a Hart never takes it lying down.

uiRsVG0.jpgI7JWHGW.jpg

But the real meat and potatoes of the interview came when he addressed his failed attempt at winning the WWF Championship from Randy Savage at Summerslam.

y9U6V8V.jpg2CI5XZj.jpg

Hart: I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is my dream to be the WWF Heavyweight Champion! And I had it within my grasp at Summerslam. I was seconds away, multiple times, from bringing the gold back to Calgary, but I let it slip through my fingers. I let Randy Savage and his goons get the best of me with their crap and I should have seen it comin'. I should have been ready for it. But I wasn't. I wasn't and that's on me. But I'll tell you this. That's a mistake I'll NEVER make again! Next time I'll be ready. And there will be a next time because I'm not gonna stop. I'm not gonna stop until I earn another shot at the WWF Championship. Until I bring home the gold! And it doesn't matter who's standing on the other side of that ring when I get that shot. Because no matter who they are, they will never be the best there is. They'll never be the best there was. And they'll never be the best there ever will be. Because there's only one excellence of execution, and you're lookin' at him!

Angle: Buddy Landel complains that it wasn't fair that he lost the WWF Television Championship match to Michael P.S. Hayes last week since he couldn't properly prepare without knowing who his opponent was ahead of time. Therefore, he wants a rematch for the title tonight. Hayes comes out and says as much as he'd love to take Landel "down bad street again tonight", he's already signed on to defend the title against Phil Lafon of the Can-Am Connection tonight. "Maybe some other time though."

Commissioner Graham interrupts with some words of wisdom though. "Didn't your mother teach you not to believe everything you hear, Mr. Michaels?" It just goes in one ear and right out the other though, as Michaels just scoffs at the advice and leaves.

WWF TV for Week 3, October 1991

Backstage before the show:

- Before the show, I released the Bushwhackers to trim some dead weight from my roster. I thought about giving them a full run as violent heels, similar to their time as the sheepherders, which I loved, but they just can't cut it in the ring anymore. Plus it wouldn't really have suited early 90s WWF as a full-time gimmick.

This is likely just the first of many roster cuts I'll make in the coming months, as I make room for new/younger talent.

- Sensational Sherri hosted an impromptu pizza party before the show, and everyone had a great time. Well, everyone but Shawn Michaels, who was angry that I released Bushwhacker Luke!

We start the show with footage from earlier in the day showing Mr. Perfect cornering Bobby Heenan in a locker room, accusing him again of being behind Paul Orndorff's attempted attacks on his father Larry. When Perfect isn't getting the answers he wants, he decides to deck Heenan. Orndorff and Terry Funk attack mid-strike though,

Y0aBEZC.jpg3qzcoj1.jpg

as Heenan makes a hasty retreat, tripping over his own feet as he falls out of the room. Funk and Orndorff are putting a pretty good beating on Perfect until The Texas Tornado bursts into the room to even things up. The four men brawl all over the backstage area, with Funk and Orndorff eventually gaining the upper hand after Funk pulls a pair of brass knucks out of his shoe and levels both men. Orndorff, seemingly satisfied with his "victory" in the brawl, left at that point. Funk wasn't finished though, and continued to wail on Tornado with the brass knucks, busting him wide open just before arena security could pull him off.

UEr9TJE.jpgWikFKEQ.jpg

lHkZU0G.jpgwSrvhkx.jpg8foJaIR.jpgZjDfvE1.jpg

Once the footage ends, we go to Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan himself, who once again denies Perfect's accusations of his involvement in Orndorff's plans. Gorilla Monsoon continues to hound Heenan about it though, claiming no one buys it and that he should just stop being a weasel and face up to it like a man. Heenan just changes the subject though and announces the night's main event, Ric Flair versus Dave Taylor.

Back from commercial, and Missy Hyatt is backstage with Nikita Koloff and Dmitri. Hyatt asks Koloff what he thinks about Sgt. Slaughter telling the Big Boss Man that he would get the first shot at the Intercontinental Championship when, not if, he beats Koloff at Vengeance. Koloff doesn't say a word though. Instead, he just smiles and turns to Dmitri who reveals that he's holding a large rope behind his back. Dmitri ties one end of the rope around his waist and tosses the other end off camera. When the camera turns we see four men, all looking like they weigh over 300 pounds, take hold of the other end of the rope. Koloff then steps away and violently drags referee Shane Stevens back to the scene to officiate a tug of war. Four on one, with 1200 pounds on one side and 310 on the other, seemed like a mismatch. And it was, for the 1200 pound side, as Dmitri won the tug of war in a matter of seconds, not giving a single inch in the process. The instant it was over Koloff demolished the 300 pounders, almost causing the fourth to somersault when hit with the Russian Sickle. Once he was finished, Koloff picked up Hyatt's mic, which she dropped when running for her life, and looked into the camera, "Does that answer your question?!"

The new WWF Tag Team Champions, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and I.R.S. are out next, accompanied by Sid. DiBiase does all the talking, "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!! That's right! You are looking at the NEW World Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions, Money Incorporated! And there was nothing you could do to stop this, Billy Graham! And just who do you think you are anyway, thinking you could tell The Million Dollar Man when and where he could challenge for the WWF Tag Team Titles? NO ONE tells me what's what. Because everybody's got a price for The Million Dollar Man, and that goes for you too, Graham! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

lObEcd2.jpg

This brings out Commissioner Graham, who surprisingly congratulates DiBiase and I.R.S. on their successful scheme in finding a loophole to compete for the tag titles, and for winning them. He didn't stop there though, "And just so you know there are no hard feelings, I'm not even gonna strip you of those titles. Which I definitely could do, since it's obvious to everyone that you paid off The Bushwhackers to throw that match last week. I'll tell you what I am gonna do though. I'm gonna make a match for Saturday Night's Main Event: Vengeance, in just a little over two weeks. It's gonna be you, Money Inc., defending the WWF Tag Team titles against the team that would likely still be the champions today if not for your interference last month on Prime Time, The Legion of Doom!!!!"

D6Tq7WK.jpgkz6sUWY.jpg

Money Inc. is furious at this news, but their night got even worse when Graham continued, "That is if you're still the champions by then, since you'll be defending the titles right now against The Rebels. Oh, and if you do manage to retain tonight, you'll also be defending them next week against a brand new tag team. Good luck, gentlemen. You're gonna need it!"

The Ultimate Warrior is with Crush for a promo on the Army of Darkness. The Ultimate Warrior has the first words,

Warrior: Paul Bearer, I have seen your army grow stronger in the past week, with the addition of Hercules. BUT THE WARRIORS HAVE GONE STRONGER AS WELL! For Crush, has felt the power of all of my warriors, AND THE POWER OF DESTINY, rushing through his veins, Paul Bearer. And when the time comes for that ultimate battle, me and all of my warriors, WILL REIGN SUPREEEME! Crush had the final say and a challenge for Hercules,

Crush: Me and you were already on a collision course, Hercules. And now it appears you'll be aligned with the Army of Darkness. Which means it's just like my bruddah the Ultimate Warrior said, it's destiny. So, if you're still out there Hercules. If you're still able to go after what your new family did to you last week. Bobby Heenan wisely hits the bricks as Tornado is handed a mic by a production member.

Tornado: TERRRRY FUNK!!!! YOU THINK YOU'RE RID OF ME? WELL, YOU GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN'! YOU THINK A FEW DOZEN STITCHES IS GONNA GET ME OUT OF YOUR LIFE?!

At this point, Tornado stops talking and repeatedly punches himself until blood starts seeping through the bandages on his forehead.

Tornado: WELL YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG, FUNK! BECAUSE I WILL FIGHT YOU UNTIL I CAN'T STAND UP ANYMORE! I WILL FIGHT YOU 'TIL EVERY DROP OF BLOOD HAS POURED FROM MY BODY! I WILL FIGHT YOU 'TIL THEY HAVE TO TAKE ME OUTTA HERE IN A HEARSE IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES! BUT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, TERRY FUNK, YOU'RE MINE!!

Commissioner Graham has an announcement regarding the Terry Funk/Texas Tornado situation.

Graham: I don't usually like to sign big matches on such short notice, but I feel I have no choice after what went down last week. In just five short days, at Saturday Night's Main Event: Vengeance, at the Summit in Houston, Texas, Terry Funk will meet The Texas Tornado in a rematch from Wrestlemania 7. But there's not gonna be any gimmicks to give Funk the advantage, like the bull rope from Wrestlemania. And certainly, no one is going to be killed, as Tornado suggested last week. We're just gonna have ourselves a simple, old-fashioned, 2 out of 3 falls match! The falls will be decided by pinfall or submission only, which means no count outs and no disqualifications. However, no disqualifications, in this case, don't mean that anything goes. Quite the opposite actually, because anyone caught cheating will not only forfeit the match immediately, they will be FIRED from the World Wrestling Federation! This whole thing started over who's the best wrestler from Texas. Well, we're gonna find out once and for all this Saturday. And this WILL BE the end of it too, because if either man so much as looks in the other's direction outside of a sanctioned match after this, they'll be fired then too! This all started in Texas back in February, and we're ending it in Texas this Saturday!

In a bout with great heat, The Birds of Prey defeated Money Inc. in 5:25 when DiBiase and I.R.S. intentionally got counted out after taking a solid 5-minute beating, with no end in sight, from The Birds of Prey. The Birds of Prey do not win the WWF World Tag Team Championships by countout.

As the bell rings, and Money Inc. and Sid are making their way to the back, the fans in Freeman Coliseum begin a chant that stops them in their tracks,

Fans: L.O.D.! L.O.D.! L.O.D.! L.O.D.!

Stunned, Money Inc. turns back to the ring as the chant changes to,

Fans: TAKE THEM OFF! TAKE THEM OFF! TAKE THEM OFF! TAKE THEM OFF!

The Birds of Prey oblige, taking their masks off to reveal...

The fans erupt, as DiBiase cries foul and Animal is handed a mic,

Animal: "Prepare for round 2 on Saturday. WE ARE GONNA PICK YOUR BONES CLEAN! TELL 'EM HAWK!"

Hawk: "AHHHHHHHHHH, WHAT A RUUUUSSHH!!!!!!!"

Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper with some pre-recorded comments for The Dragon and Bam Bam Bigelow.

Hogan: WELL YA KNOW SOMETHIN', HOT ROD?!! I've been waiting since Summerslam, to get my hands on that backstabbing Dragon again, Brother! And now we're so close, just five days away, from The Hulkster, givin' The Dragon, just a small taste of what I've got in store for him, when we go one on one at Survivor Series, dude. And I know you wouldn't mind havin' another crack at him yourself!

Piper: That's right, Hulkster, I wouldn't. But ya can't forget about that big goof, Bam Bam Bigelow either. Oh, no. He may have that stupid flame tattoo on his big, bald noggin, and a whole lotta nothin' underneath it, but MAN DOES HE PACK A WALLOP! BUT THAT'S OKAY! I've taken many a beatin' in my day, from men a lot bigger and lot tougher than you, Bam Bam! And as for you, Dragon, I might take a few swings atcha, but I'm leavin' most of ya for the Hulkster! And let me tell ya, ha ha, that I have been on this man's bad side, and that's a place you don't EVER wanna be! Tell 'em, Hulkster!

Hogan: SO WHATCHA GONNA DO, DRAGON, AND WHATCHA GONNA DO, BIGELOW, WHEN THE LARGEST ARMS IN THE WORLD, AND THE HOT ROD, RUN WILD...ON...YOOOOUUUUUU??!!

It's time for the main event and Earthquake is out first, accompanied by Typhoon and Jimmy Hart. When Bret Hart follows and climbs in the ring, he's immediately surrounded by the trio, with Jimmy Hart screaming incoherently into his megaphone. Things are looking bad for Hart until Jim Neidhart rushes to the ring.

Hfr9JPp.jpg

After Earthquake, Typhoon, and Jimmy Hart make a hasty exit, you can clearly hear Neidhart tell Bret that he's got a little surprise for him, pointing to the curtain. Back from injuries suffered at the hands of Vader and Rick Rude at Summerslam, it's Owen Hart!

He joins Bret and Anvil in the ring to even the odds, embracing Bret as the crowd roars.

During the match, Rick Rude and Vader came down to "watch," but Commissioner Graham stopped them before they could make it to the ring and threw them out. The Harts celebrate, as the final Prime Time before Vengeance goes off the air.

Post-show notes:

- The Eagle and The Falcon were actually a tag team that competed most famously in Japan, finishing 9th out of 10 teams in AJPW's 1994 World's Strongest Tag Determination League, won by Kenta Kobashi & Mitsuharu Misawa. The Eagle was Jackie Fulton and The Falcon was George Hines. Those two would obviously never pass for LOD in real life, size or physique-wise, but I thought the photos I used were cropped high enough to make it passable.

Top 5 in-ring performances of the night:

Ted DiBiase - 95

Bret Hart - 94

Vader - 93

Hawk(The Falcon) - 93

The Dragon - 92

The Next Day:

- Rick Rude said that I.R.S. doesn't connect with the fans and that I should just, get this, "write him off!". Purely a coincidence as that expression is used a lot in these little blurbs in the game, but I still love it!

Angle: We open the show with Buddy Landel already in the ring, microphone in hand.

Landel: Every single person in this buildin' knows why I'm here. Michael Hayes, I want my rematch for the Television title and I want it right now. And I don't wanna hear no excuses that you're scheduled to wrestle someone else or any other crap. I have it on the highest authority that you have no opponent scheduled for tonight. So, here I am. Like my grandpappy always said, the early bird catches the worm, and I am gettin' hungry!

Commissioner Graham comes out instead of Hayes though, and breaks the bad news,

Graham: I'm sorry, Mr. Landel, but I have some bad news. There isn't going to be a television title match this week. You see, Mr. Hayes had a medical issue and had to rush home.

Landel actually seems concerned for Hayes, until he questions Graham about what the problem is, and Graham answers,

Graham: He ate some bad shellfish at the airport hotel and had some, well stomach issues, and well you get why he might have a problem wrestling tonight.

Landel: Do you mean to tell me that I can't have my rematch because Hayes has the diarr...

Graham: Mr. Landel, Mr. Landel, please show a little decorum.

Landel is beside himself with anger.

Angle: Recorded from each man's living room, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty have some final words for each other ahead of their Steel Cage match at Vengeance.

Jannetty: That's right, Shawn Michaels, I'm BAAACK! And I didn't come back for the money. I didn't come back for the glory. I'm back for one reason and one reason only, and that's you, Shawn! To return that little favor that you did to me on the Barber Shop! And I've heard it through the grapevine, that you've been hittin' the gym hard. You've been pumpin' those weights, and runnin' those stairs, tryin' to get into the best possible physical condition of your life. But it's not gonna do you one bit of good, Shawn. Because when you step into that Steel Cage with me at Vengeance, you can bring all the right tools, but if you don't know how to use 'em, it's like bringin' a knife to a gunfight! You're just gonna get hurt!

Michaels: "You know I'm surprised you came back at all, Jannetty. I know I would have never shown my face again, in any wrestling company, anywhere in THE WORLD, if someone made a fool out of me like I did you in the Barber Shop! But if there's one thing that's for sure, it's that I'm not you, Marty! Because you're not the sexiest man alive. That's me! YOU'RE NOT THE HEARTBREAK KID! THAT'S ME! YOU'RE NOT THE GREATEST WRESTLER, WALKING THIS PLANET TODAY! That's me! And this Saturday Night at Vengeance, I'm gonna finish what I started in the Barber Shop. But this time, I'm gonna put you outta commission for good!"
